Zia Comics

Zia Comics

Reviews Summary

Zia Comics receives mixed feedback, with many praising its friendly staff, wide selection of comics, board games, and collectibles, plus fun pinball machines. Positive reviews highlight helpful service and a welcoming atmosphere for gaming events. However, some criticize high prices on TCGs and comics, calling them scalper-level, and report poor customer service experiences, including rude staff and strict policies. While the store is generally well-liked for its variety and vibe, pricing and inconsistent service deter some customers.

Customer Reviews

The vibes and decorations were great, the employees were also very welcoming. I was amazed by the variety of items here. Comics, model kits, figurines, trading cards, D&D, Godzilla, arcade games... it's endless.

My daughter, brother and I recently attended the Saturday board game night. From the time we walked in, till we left the store we were treated with kindness. The clerks behind the counter were very nice and helpful, and the game master was wonderful at demonstrating and teaching games. Even the other players DID NOT treat us like an outcast, as this was my first time going. I highly recommend this place for shopping and buying all your favorite board games, comic books, manga, etc. Additionally, I suggest

PARENTS BEWARE: A VERY UNHAPPY MOMMA BEAR Yesterday after a quick stop at the splash pad, I went in to purchase a shirt for my son who had gotten his shirt wet. We walked in the store after both of my children had already had their clothes changed, except for his shirt. My son was wearing a huge towel to cover his body while we purchased it. The young lady working there approached me and asked that I left my son outside because they did not allow wet children in the store. I went on to explain that I was

Amazing store and amazing workers. They have just about anything nerdy you may need. My only issue was the surcharge on the Final Fantasy cards... But other than that, it's an amazing store

Very cool comic shop in the middle of the downtown district. Friendly and helpful staff, great selection, and a pinball arcade in the back. This is a one stop shop for awesome.

Had taken a drive from El Paso up to Las Cruces to meet a friend for lunch and while walking through the plaza area. Saw the Zia Comics and thought, lets check this out. Staff was friendly, helpful, knowledgeable. The store is large with lots of merchandise compared to other comic stores I have been in. Came across the classic pinball machines in the back and totally got distracted from looking for a collectible figurine. Just kept playing the refurbished 1977 Eight Ball pinball machine along with many oth

By FAR the best comic and specifically board game store I have ever been to! I've lived all over the world and no store even comes close! From the management, to the workers, cleanliness and overall experience coming into this store it is just fantastic. They demonstrate gameplay so you know what you're getting, give fantastic recommendations and have a great inventory of all sorts of card, role play and board games! I would 100% recommend you to stop by if you're ever in Las Cruses!

Terrific store, the staff is friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of games, comics, and anything you could need for a good RPG table top setup. For sure recommend.

Very pleased with my first visit to Zia Comics. My wife and four kids walked over after having yummy pizza at Grounded which is a couple shops away in the downtown plaza. Zia is very clean and lots to see. They have a little arcade in the back with pinball machines and a room for board games. My one complaint, when I just purchased $20 worth of ice cream, I asked it I could sample one of the flavors. It was a quick no. I did take enjoyment in watching my kids eat theirs though . I wish they would employ Bas

So wonderful to visit a comic shop again. This was a super good place to find comics and pop culture ware like figurines and games. Although I feel like the comics are a small portion of the store. It's still nice and nostalgic. Some good vintage comics too. Comics are between $2-$10 mostly, with some vintage up over $20.

Pretentious atmosphere and rude staff. 0/10 Reply: Bold of you to make such an assumption, proving my point of the pretentious atmosphere and rude staff dating back to being at the El Paseo Plaza. Reply: Why did you delete your comment?

Very cool Spot ..my first visit was great. .. didn't find the New Avengers Annual #1 2014 issue .. . . But came away with a great buy played a couple of rounds of pinball. I had Fun here at Zia Comics and will be back. Even my Girlfriend walked away with a mini Deadpool of her very own (he was riding a pink unicorn).

Great selection of comics, tabletop games, dice, figures, cards, and other collectibles. They've got some cool stuff that you can't normally find in the area. Workers are great, too.

First time ever going to this place and I got to say their set up is really cool. Such a variety of comics and other goodies for nerds. Very professional staff too. It's a ways out for me but I still make the travel just cause of the differences it holds against El Paso comic book shops.

Clean shop, friendly staff, well organized. I look forward to seeing their continued growth as a business - Have fun at the Duskmourn release event! - and as always... Please don't leave small children unattended ??

Tons of stuff to choose from. Friendly, knowledgeable staff! Clean store.

Great comic book shop!! Tons of awesome comics including silver age stuff. Plenty of sweet statues and busts for sale as well. And lots of DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS items to suit your fantasy needs! Friendly and knowledgeable staff and they close at 10pm!! What more could you want?!

Best store to get my out of the box people's gifts and for the amount of product they have it is upkept very neatly and cleanly. The customer service was very welcoming and freindly. Will go back agin.

Friendly helpful knowledgeable staff, a variety of games, collectables, comics all attractively arranged.

Place is wonderful, a prime spot for all board games, card games, comics and much more. Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They regularly host events not to mention you can get some ice cream and snacks.

They have a whole room dedicated to Warhammer. I'm happy, also a whole section for pathfinder as well. 5 stars.

Lack in stock when new comics arrive. I remember one time I went 13 minutes after they opened and there were zero comics of anything I was looking for. When they have late arrivals in new comics they will tell you after you make all your way into the new comics section, basically wasting your time. I would suggest making a quick notice in social media or hang a sign remarking the situation. The comics include the bag and board which is a nice addition and the ambience is quite fun. But it's always a dilemma

THE ULTIMATE NERD EXPERIENCE! From comics to magic, this place has a little of everything! Would love to see an expanded game play area.

Great selection, some really cool and obscure stuff! Highly recommended. Only real downside is that I could only find Ram figures, even though it's universally agreed that Rem is superior in every conceivable way. But I can't fault them on that, I'm sure Rem is just way more popular and sells out quicker. To be perfectly honest, I think it's strange that Ram is so popular given how much less important she was to the story, but I haven't really w--OH RIGHT THIS IS A REVIEW. Uhhh, yeah, 5/5 definitely go he

Pretty good shop. The selection is varied and abundant enough to find some good stuff. The employees were friendly and helpful in answering questions. The prices are fair and over all the place has a great vibe. Good job!

Amazing store so much to look at , I love getting lost in here.

Quite a few of their boardgames are just expansions that accompany base games, and they rarely ever have the base games in-stock. Note that all sales are final, so if you accidentally purchase an expansion, thinking it's the base game, you're out of luck. You'll find the base games and expansions for cheaper on Amazon.

Cheaper online, entire time was in the store the staff ran around harassing potential customers about rules the store had. Lack of stock for Citadel products. No paper bags available but quick to sell you the $2 branded reusables while complaining about local ordinance. No public restrooms is a big downside as well as not being able to keep your drink with you. More Battletech at Barnes and Noble, Alpha Strike or otherwise. Super games in the mall sells at a slightly higher price but has the better custo

Great game and comic store. They carry a wide selection of board and tabletop games as well as what appears to be a large selection of comics and magna. Great staff who are very knowledgeable and friendly for all gamer levels

The layout of the store is really nice, super easy to find everything. I just wish the staff weren't so awesome at helping me find just what I need, in the rare occasion I can find it myself. Plus, it's so refreshing to be able to have actual conversations with people that look you in the eyes, and genuinely seem interested in what I say/get excited over. It has spoiled all my shopping experiences anywhere else. And I'm glad to see the prices are always in line with the market values. A lot of stores like t

Nice selection, a few gaming tables, some classic arcade games and pinball in the back, ice cream in the front.

Friendly staff and great selection of all kinds of things!

I have not yet physically been to their store (cause you know, pandemic), however, I've kept up with them via email and social media. They are always fast and responsive in answering my questions! And so friendly! I can't wait to actually visit them in person one day! UPDATE! - Have finally made it in-person! Super fun and casual EDH nights on Fridays! Great store, great staff, and great time overall! :D

Editing my review to see if it shows as most recent: I've been going to Zia Comics for years. I pop in about every other week. This place is great. Super friendly with a great selection of games, comics, collectibles, you name it. The very friendly staff and great environment are why I go so often, even just to browse.

We came in for a game night and it was great. The staff were friendly and helpful, happy to show us around, had demo games on hand to play, and even the other customers were quick to jump in and offer suggestions and tips. Very welcoming community of folks. Couldn't be happier.

The store is beautiful and so many options to look at. The staff was amazing and super helpful in finding some new pieces for my collection.

A very fun environment, if you are interested in D&D this is the place for you! There are an abundance of Pop figures too mainly focusing towards animes. There is a retro arcade located at the back of the store with some awesome blasts from the past for any arcade game lover! One of my personal favorite features is the movie replica outfits that are being constructed I believe I saw a Boba Fett and Ghostbusters outfit on display during my visit.

Not sure who the blue kid with the blue wannabe Marilyn Manson haircut is, but he needs a serious attitude adjustment. The store itself is nice and easily the best organized I've seen of any similar type of store. Offers a wide variety of things for all sides of nerd culture. But I mean, so does Amazon. I'd rather give my money to a company with decent customer service. Not one with employees who sit on their phones and get upset when you ask them for help.

I love this place and will definitely continue shopping here to support the business through the pandemic. My only issue was part of the comics were closed off for maintenance with a sign that said "ask for assistance". I did ask for assistance but I was told those were off limits due to repairs. I really want to spend money here but I need to be able to see what's for sale. I've been here numerous times and have always had great customer service, this was just one time. Edit: My apologies, I'm sure the mu

Fun, bright, and large store for kids big and small. I went looking for some graphic novels, and they have a large selection. They also have new and vintage comics as well as toys, collectibles, board games, Warhammer sets, Manga, and so much more. Staff is friendly and the music was great. Las Cruces is lucky to have this place! We were visiting from out of town and weren't sure what to expect, but it was well worth it. Located in the amazing downtown Las Cruces neighborhood, I could see people grabbing

These guys are trying to sell individual commander master booster packs for 90 dollars hahahahaha And Lost Cavern of Ixilan booster boxes for 200!... they are 100-115 online right now. You would have to be daft or stuck with store credit to be buying magic cards from Zia Comics. Response: I literally checked TCG while in the store and the collector packa are 50 bucks.... You are price gouging like crazy. I bought two set boxs for 115 each yall are tone deaf af... Please say you arnt screwing your custome

Went here to look at comics and figurines but discovered a collection of golden books for kids! Our son loves them. Only problem is the staff has a sign posted that you can't use their bathrooms. You can hang out, get ice cream, play Magic and still have to run to another business to do your business. I know the Potters as my ex-landlords and I'm not surprised.

Love it and best comic book store in new mexico and glad have best family vacation ever

Has possible potential to be a great place for youth.

Place keeps getting better and better, especially after the move. This is by far the best board game place in town, but it's also a great pop culture store in general. It's incredibly welcoming while still maintaining credibility among niche audiences.

My kids, 19, 16, 16 all boys loved the store. We visit all the comic book stores during our travels. Kids explored while I played game after Game of pinball. Sound was turned up so you are fully engaged in each game. Great stop for kids and dads and maybe cool moms.

Awesome place, nice staff, great for new comic book day and manga stuff!

sort by lowest and please check the reviews to see why I'm not the only one complaining. some clerks are nice but some are racist and vulgar to customers even if they're children. going to take my business to ep. predatory prices as well

Awesome place for all pop culture lovers! They have a huge variety of collectibles, comic books, trading card games, Funko Pops, etc. Anything you can think of pop culture and it's here! Staff is extremely friendly and answers questions about whatever it is you need. Love coming here when I'm in Cruces.

Always a great experience coming here. Great selection of Funkos, comics. I regularly bring my child here to purchase new manga. The employees are super sweet to her and share Her excitement for the item she just chose. Lifetime customer.

This is a tough store to rate. Selection of modest, but not bad for a store of their size. Staff was available, but not terribly helpful, though it's possible they just didn't want to be intrusive. It looked like they had some play space, but it looked REALLY tight. I guess in general, the bulk of their issues simply stem from having a really tight footprint. A small space can really limit what they are able to do. They had a lot going on in such a small space. I have to wonder though if the tight qu

Such a great group of people and a great selection. I've been to many comic shops but this local shop is really amazing. They get so involved with their community and it lets me know they're not some big Corp store trying to just rack in money. They really care about their customers and go above and beyond. I love bringing my kids in and we are hoping to visit the new location this weekend :) definitely worth going in and shopping

Really great place, A LOT bigger than I thought with way more collectibles. They also have pin ball machines in the back, my kiddos and I really enjoyed the experience! I will be going back, very good prices too!

I go to this store every week! I love the friendly environment and the store staff's knowledge. I can always find something I like. If you need gifts for the family comic fan try this store out. The pull-list system is great and offers a discount on your NEW titles. Check it out, stop in and you will not be disappointed. They carry just about everything comic and gaming related. One of the few remaining places family owned an operated. Do not even waste your time at the other shops around town GO to ZIA!

Lowering my score because everytime I go and have a question they scoff at me. Acting as if my questions are too simple and ridiculous (and turns out they never know the right answer) Great comic book store. Its big and has a great variety of things. They carry comics, paints, board games, paints and much more. They have events and definitely knoe their stuff. A little pricey but overall great store.

I use a rollator style walker and was actually able to go down every aisle, and open the doors on my own without having to back into or out of anywhere. (I didn't use the restroom, but literally everything else was manageable.) On top of that, they had a huge selection of comics, figures, just everything you could hope for, plus an arcade in the back. The staff was really kind and friendly. 10 out of 10.

Used to come here a lot and always loved Game Night! The staff were always helpful as were the guests. I learned how to play so many awesome board games here. 10/10 would recommend! Glad to start coming back again.

Stay away from this place. I have been there 4 times and all four times I have left upset by their customer service. It's almost like it bothers them when you ask a question. Today, I asked if an item was available. A young lad was helping me, and a lady that was there as well, just cut him off and said if it's not there we don't have it. I said her customer service needed a little work, I got a snarky apology. No one in my family will ever go there again.

It's a really fun atmosphere and great staff! Extremely big and very well kept! My favorite part is the Thanos demo station. It's really amazing because it's welcoming to newbies or even to the people just getting ice cream. I've been to a few comic/board games shops in other cities who can't be bothered with you unless you know what you are talking about. Especially one in the city of ABQ. Even though I'm an avid board gamer your store is my favorite.

I have been trying to give Zia Comics my money for the last year with only a modicum of success. The staff is friendly, but comics are bagged and boarded with large warnings about not taking them out; trade paperbacks are sealed in plastic. If you don't know exactly what you want, you're stuck. Imagine a regular bookstore treating people this way. Seems like a good place to buy board games or RPGs, mind. Also: many, many Funko Pops.

It's a neat store for sure. Their new venue is much more spacious than the old one, so it's easier to walk around and not be afraid you're gonna accidentally bump into an expensive figurine or statue. There's a little bit of everything for everyone in here, from food to comics, to games to cosplay materials. It's in a really great spot across from La Plaza and I hope this shop does well here!

Great atmosphere and service. Lots of variety.

Awesome place! Went to learn the game Keyforge there with my wife and the staff was very friendly. They have a great selection of merchandise from comics to action figures to games. This is my new favorite store!

Great staff and, more importantly, they have a few pinball machines. . . ....although my bud n i are still banned from the store (for being too wizardly) I'll leave this positive review up and ask anybody reading it to mention that its just not right to ban the pinball wizards from the only pinball machines in town. It's cruel.

Don't go to this place we are from out of town stopped thru so my son could pick a Funko Pop. He purchased it came out realized the box wasn't in great condition returned for a simple exchange and the EMPLOYEES look like kids and are rude. Their customer service deserves a -1. Go to Walmart or GameStop or anywhere besides this DUMP! The Pop sat on a table across the street at an Arcade untouched now all of sudden it is dirty and has fingerprints? Typical I hope this store isn't how the rest of the customer

I loved this store. So much cool merchandise. The lady at the counter was really knowledgeable about the merchandise, so we got to talk to her for awhile about the HTTYD shows and movies. They had all kinds of comic books, things related to comics, games, D&D stuff, and more. I definitely want to go back to look around!

I came for the board games (which they had an excellent selection of), and I ended up with some comics and merch as well. Super friendly staff, lots to look at, and overall a great selection. Love it, and i hope to be back this way in the future so I can come back!

Loved it what a great lil place with a good selection of merchandise AND ice cream you can enjoy while you browse or check out the back room and play some ol school arcade games and pin ball machines. The employees were amazing and helpful definitely recommend stopping in the only downside to it is no public restroom but there are ones near by if needed

I really like the new location and the new atmosphere that i have encountered has been great. The selection of board games is very good its not as big as some other places but they have alot of the current hotness and they can get ahold of anything that is in print. The board game night is very inviting and welcomeing danny is very knowledgeable and friendly and always wants to know what your favorite game of the night was so that he can correctly assess what people want to buy. He also has prototypes to t

New location, expanded inventory. Wide range of products - Pop vinyls, dice sets, tabletop gaming books, card games, dice games, comics and comic collections, paintable minis and painting supplies, statuettes. Arcade games, gaming spaces and events. Snacks available (and an entire ice cream selection), and within easy walking distance of restaurants. Decent prices. Best place in Las Cruces for gaming supplies.

Nice size shop with lots of items to browse through. I went for the used comics and they have a very nice selection, a bit pricey, but I did find a few that I bought. The young ladies working the counter were very nice! When I come through town again, I'll revisit.

Decent selection of collectables and card games. Asked for yu gi oh sized card sleeves and was told they do not carry them, and when I went and looked for myself they had a couple different brands of card sleeves that were in fact the correct size I was looking for. I also inquired about trade-ins, which they do, but was told they do not accept trade-ins of board games; even though my board games were in fact new and unopened and of a uncommon/rare variety to find and/or purchase. They offer a large variety

Zia Comics is the best! My husband and I go for their board games. What we love most about Zia Comics is that their staff in extremely attentive. If you have questions or are looking for a new game to play they go above and beyond to explain the game excitedly and usually offer to actually show you the game if you have some time. We actually backed one of the owners Kick Starter game. The new location in the downtown mall is awesome and I cant wait to visit more. Have and will continue to recommend Zia Comi

Staff is five stars. Shops variety is five stars. Prices on tcg are one star, beyond ebay worthy. I'm more than happy to pay 20% over msrp to support local. You have over head I get it. Before pandemic wouldn't carry Pok?mon cards because they don't sale. Magically on the hype train now and selling product at literally a 100% above msrp. I have unfortunately been buying from Gamestop and Target for tcg needs now. Anyone paying $80 for a $40 item (sun and moon etbs) is out of their mind. Not supporting scalp

Thank you for being open at night in our beautiful downtown! When strolling after a late dinner downtown it was great to stop in for your ice cream. We need more businesses to stay open so downtown can become the place to go in the evenings for everyone. Thank you, again!

Went there August 10th bought some really cool things and i was treated very kindly by the staff?????? I really like this store! I wish, I could come over just to shop there again?? love the that there is so much stuff that are available in one store of all sorts of Nerdy things you can dream of and that the items are relevant to what their topic of store is ?????

They have a variety of items ranging from comics, board games and minis. The employees were very helpful when I was deciding what paints to use for my Warhammer minis. They also gave me some helpful tips when painting them.

My son and I always stop there n check out the stuff. This last time we were able to find the new space godzilla comic we had just heard about the day before. It was a really nice find.

Overall okay first time experience with their online ordering. Disappointed how damaged one of my funko pop boxes came(you can tell it wasnt damaged upon delivery). On the site they list generic pictures and honestly should show or specify the condition it's in. Price was good tho for vaulted items however they ship with thick tissue paper. If you are an in the box collector make sure you call before purchase. Also shipping on their site was 10$ but came with a media mail label for $4.39. As stated overall

Love this place. Excellent selection. Ice Cream shop inside, Old School Arcade, Tables on front patio and game nights and other events. Staff is Always Super friendly.

I love the staff & the atmosphere. I especially enjoy perusing the wide selection, definitely one of my top favorite comic shops of all time. Lydia is always so sweet when I go, thanks sb!

I love this place. If I could, I would so love to work there. But if you're a Comic book person you'll fall in love with the place it's a big space full of comics, bobbleheads, collectable statues, and a bunch of other amazing stuff. And the events that they have are incredible. Just like free comic day ???? highly recommend going.

Do not support this store, a couple friends and I called to see if a new shining fates elite set was in (Pok?mon) since everywhere else was sold out which is going for $49.99 at any retailer. We were told they were so we hurried over. Little did we know they were selling them double the msrp ($99.99). Their excuse was to combat scalpers, but doesn't that make them the scalpers considering they are a legal distributor (buying them at less than market value) and selling them for an inflated price? They are ta

Good selection of books and games.

My son and I get our Manga from here, Amazing prices and that little video game room in the back is freaking awesome

If you're coming here for Pokemon TCG products, avoid this place like a plague. I've bought the Chilling Reign expansion at a tiny markup a few weeks ago which I didn't mind, because a lot of retailers didn't carry much besides boosters, but aside from boosters having a small markup, every other Pokemon TCG product is price gouged to ridiculous amounts. They're pricing items nearly double the msrp. It is worse than actual scalpers. I saw a damaged Venusaur Vmax box priced for $49.99 and Sun and Moon ETBs fo

It's really easy to be a "bad" comic shop but Zia doesn't fall into that category. The guy at the counter was super friendly but didn't bug me while I was looking at books. You'd think the only shop in the area would have insane prices but Zia had really fair prices. Had a nice chat, bought a book, and went in my way. I'll definetly come back when I'm in LC again.

A lovely comic/game store (lgs) that is well worth the trip. They maintain an impressive collection of board games, comics, ttrpg books, & ttrpg supplies at very reasonable prices. There is need to pay "extra" for their members gaming library -- one earns access simply by making regular purchases (brilliant!). The building also includes rooms customized specifically for ttrpgs and maintains groups that play popular rpg's such as D&D in addition to areas for board games. It's awesome, & you should go!

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
