First time at Zanzibar. It's a pretty cool place. All the cool retro decor and pinball machines are pretty dope! Music space is a nice, intimate venue. We saw the amazing Kindred Valley! Parking could be a challenge on a busy night. Definitely recommend!
Loved this place! Only downside is parking can be hard to find, but it's worth the walk. Great spot for live music!
Grooviest Venue! Pinball machines and booze! Live Music with a huge stage and dance floor. Strong drinks! Fran and Nan are the bartending duo that rock this World! ????
Came to a Burlesque show and had a great time. Staff was very friendly, clean environment, very cool decor. Will come back again
I went to emo night of all things, and it was rather fantastic. The bartending staff was wonderful, they took care of myself and my entourage. The performance and sound system were fantastic, and the drinks were well-made. There might?ve been a little heavy-handed pouring every once in a while, but? all in all it was such a great atmosphere, with fantastic and comfortable lighting as well as show stopping lighting that was incredible with the emo night tour. Five star experience, but one star parking. ?????
Love the venue, sound is great with good visibility throughout. Bar staff however was unfriendly and cleared our table tossing a full beer when we stepped away to watch show even though we had been doing it all night. Fries were absolutely flavorless and unsalted. Great venue but plan to eat/drink elsewhere.
Outstanding bar, restaurant and live music venue. Terrific local beer selection. The whole vibe here is awesome. One of my faves.
Really great little place. The food looked great. We loved all the details in the decor and atmosphere. The staff was super friendly. And we were really excited about the live music. Unfortunately, we got a call right as we were about to order and we had to leave. We did get to enjoy a drink and chips and queso before having to rush out. The queso was delicious! Next time we're in town, we 100% will be going back for dinner and music. Go check out those awesome little bar/grill!
Loved this place. We drove from St. Louis to see Ward Davis. Amazing little venue.Service was outstanding across the board: from the guys at the door who scanned our tickets to the bartenders who were attentive. Great old fashioned !! Best tacos I ever had. ?? and Drew Harakal and Ward Davis put on a fabulous show.
the arcade part is what brought me here, most pinball machines are a dollar to play or $2 for 3 games. There is a couple quarter pinballs and a couple that are 50 cents. Probably 50/50 of vintage to new age pinball. Arcade is in the front, bar in the middle, & music venue in the back. Bar also has kombucha on tap as a non alcoholic option, which is awesome! I had the pineapple ginger, there's also blueberry & pomegrante, I felt super bubbly ??Also has an outside smokers patio. Overall great bar, awesome vib
Love this place. John and ants are incredibly compassionate people and awesome business owners. I love this place and always will. It's been a very important place for me and my family throughout our lives. Check them out. They're a great venue.
Always have a fun time here. Last time I was here was about two weeks ago and it was cold so no one was really out of their houses at all. Me and my boyfriend were looking for a place with lots of people but noticed that every bar we went to was basically empty. At Zbar this was the same, nobody was here. The bar still had a DJ and the DJ did a great job at trying to make us all have fun even though it was a small crowd! Very impressed with Zbar!
One of my favorite places in Louisville. They get a lot of really good shows. Service is always great!
i?m really just on here to recommend the grilled cheese and cajun fries. from what i could eat before my ?not hungry? husband ate all my fries, they were extremely good. the grilled cheese is also super flavorful on texas toast. i don't usually write reviews but my husband and i really love these fries. we also saw bumping uglies and bikini trill. they were great too
This place rocks! In so many ways . Great food , great atmosphere, great music and great owners. Highly recommend if you are a local or just visiting.
Didn't try the food but the barkeeps were nice enough and the food smelled good I'll definitely try it when I go back. Love the aesthetic.
i?ve been going to zbar for so long and always go with my dad to eat dinner together whether it's just him and i or we bring our family and friends.. we are always welcomed with wonderful service from bartenders and the food is phenomenal, especially when new menu items come out! sometimes we even get a chance to talk to the owners who are so passionate and kind and always bring a brighter energy to the place. i?ve seen a few shows here and again, am always welcomed with safety and enjoyment with the show a
Good beer selection, friendly staff, lots of pinball machines, decent playlist = great place. No Scotch, but that's a common Louisville issue.
Little neighborhood bar that has become a legend! Good food and drink and a friendly staff. Fantastic music venue in the back and a great patio space. National bands, epic pinball games, great food. Why aren't you there now?
A little pit stop on our way to Nashville and the best fish sandwich I've ever had. On top of that, incredible people and community ?? we had such a great time hanging out and can't wait to come back!!! Thanks Ant and crew ??
The atmosphere was amazing. The drinks and food were well priced and good. But the MUSIC......out of this world awesome. Joe Clark and the Peacemakers.....top notch!!!! Dusty Bo and the Bedford Band were nice additions to our great night!!!
Not a safe place, a venue who refuses to stand up against what's wrong, canceled a Palestinian relief event for fear of backlash. Will absolutely never patron an establishment who cowards away from what's right. Fake punk energy.
Zanzabar is an wonderful place! Live music and a huge patio. Wonderful bar and amazing pinball machines! But the best part are the employees and local patrons. We had a great time playing the machines and wonderful conversations at the bar. Settle up at the bar, grab a drink and a snack and just enjoy yourself.
Love this place and I always will. The owners and staff are rad and are always willing to go the extra mile. Plus you can't beat the shows and pinball.
This is my neighborhood bar and it's truly awesome. Me and boyfriend like to play pinball and they always have about 10 machines in great condition which get rotated out frequently. They also have a couple more arcade games. We also come here for shows. It's a great place to see an intimate show but they still get some pretty big bands. There is also a nice outdoor area. I highly recommend the Death Star cookie. The staff are all great and so is the owner.
This place is so neat. What a wonderful place to watch a concert. The food was awesome. Will definitely be on the lookout for any upcoming shows.
The best most authentically Louisville bar. No fake business here, only real deal tunes, drinks, vintage games that WORK. Best bar in town don't tell your friends if they aren't cool.
great place owned by even greater people. wonderful food and service every time we come. always a fun time!!
First time back since August as I live out of town both nights were very enjoyable and we had the same bartender from last time super nice and very knowledgeable about the area!!!
Cool bar with great food. We all enjoyed what we ordered. I got the loaded tots and it was the best loaded tots I've had. Very garlicky and a good portion. The death star cookie we got to top it off is a must try!
Great place to relax! The pinball arcade is amazing! I highly recommend checking this place out if you're in town!
We went to Zanzabar to see Robyn Hitchcock perform. The show was great, the drinks were delicious and reasonably priced. What more could you ask for?
boy, what an awesome music venue! Clean toilets, amazing service and once the band's started the atmosphere was really intimate. We had the tater tots as a snack which were tasty (although perhaps a little salty for UK tastes... if you're from the UK they are delish but perhaps ask the guys to go light on the salt ????) The pinball machines were also really awesome (look out for the change machine just by the front door).
What a cool place. And they hosted a show from the Magic City Hippies - which to be fair is what brought in. Awesome dive-like bar with an incredible patio and music venue to boot. Nice beer selection and seemingly popular food menu. Friendly staff cultivates a dedicated group of locals. Bring friends, it's a fun time.
Great pinball bar in Louisville. They have around 10 different pinball games as well as some retro arcade games. Awesome selection of beers on tap and good prices. The bartender was extreme attentive and helpful. I will definitely be returning during my next trip to Louisville.
Zanzabar, after organizing the event for 4 months, dropped out of a Palestine relief aid show 13 days prior due to "political reasons" and "not knowing the show was politically inclined." This is very disappointing to see on the local Louisville level, and I won't be supporting this bar ever again.
Awesome bar, even better music venue. I've seen so many great shows there, just in the last month alone!
Great bar. Good food. Nachos w marinated chicken were kind of a mess?but the good kind of mess!
Incredible show tonight. Time and Construct hands down brought a vibe like no other.. can't wait to go back....
They have great beer selections. The service is fast and the musicians they have are absolutely amazing. The patio is big! I wish I had pictures guys. Sorry. They also have a few arcade games!
This is a great venue: the bar area is intimate without being too jam-packed, the staff is friendly and efficient, and the food is top-notch. The concert hall is probably the best set up I've seen in a long time: it's big enough to get a large crowd in there, but it's also small enough to allow for a sense of intimacy with the band that you simply can't replicate in a large arena or theater. I'll be back to play some old school arcade games, I promise.
A small local fav with great food and pinball machines! Some nights they have music too :)
Great place to see live music! Friendly bartenders that work their butts off! Good slection of drinks and beer.
Came here tonight for a concert. Dropped in early for dinner. I tried one of their specials, the roast pork tacos. The food is fantastic and service is friendly and sociable as always. If you want a chill spot to hang out and relax, come to Z-Bar!
Great times all around, $5 happy hour ice cold drafts, plenty of pinball in great shape and awesome local music on the stage!!! Thanks so much, see ya next time ??
Here for Harley Poe. 5-15-2022. Grilled cheese tot and chips queso, delicious thick Texas toast great atmosphere awesome pinball machines.
Classic local establishment. Solid, interesting drink selection and great food. The new venue portion looks and sounds great too.
A nice little place to catch a show. The back room is very wide with lots of standing room. Bathrooms are back there also.A very hipster bar with lots of old school video games and tons of pinball machines. Parking's a little hard because you have to do street parking. But it's worth checking out
First time here. We were amazed that a live band was playing tonight. Great music country and some rock music. We also enjoyed our food and service. Hopefully we can stay longer to check out the rest of the bands this weekend. Coming back soon!!
Great selection of pins! If you like pinball you've got to check it out.
We love trivia night at Zbar, not only for the fun competition but for the delicious food and drinks we can expect. The staff is fantastic and efficient and the atmosphere is very chill and lightly nerdy with music, games, and movies.
So glad we found this place on our overnight in Louisville. Pinball, music, and food, all of it excellent. I wish I could pick it up and drop it in Columbus.
Great place, really relaxed, nice outdoor deck, pinball machines in great shape
In regards to ? We can sum this up really quickly for clarity. Two immature spoiled brats got into an argument and it was handled with respect and courtesy. Case and Trevor are spoiled brats and we truly hope they grow up soon, for their own good.? This is entirely rude and uncalled for from the owner. As someone who witnessed this interaction, l can verify that case is in the right. ?Trevor? heard me say ?shut up? to a joke Case told me, and went after him, getting up in his face and threatening to hurt h
Went for a concert and had great service by the bartender who made excellent drinks and was super friendly! The venue is standing room only with just a few tables so know before you go. But otherwise nice place This venue is street parking.
Host punk shows, but cancels a relief aid event to ?stay neutral?. Taking my business elsewhere and will be telling everyone about this.
Terrific venue. Has a great art school vibe. Good drinks, prices fair. Food available, limited but well prepared. Bartender Matt is aces.
This place was really fun, had great drinks and good food. Live band was awesome and arcade games were a blast. Glad we found it!
The bartender was nice to make me a sobriety drink, and my friend and I had a ball at the event! There was a bar brawl that broke out(over something stupid) and the security guard tackled the offender and saw him out within SECONDS! Very impressive! The indoors was a smidge cramped from all the folks that showed up, but overall the night was fun and worthwhile!
Saw Tyler Cassidy there just last week. The event place was really nice and personal. The room where the artists play is seperate from the bar and fits maybe 100+ pretty comfortably. The bar serves food and drinks and the stage is right about knee level so front row is really front row.
Really great venue, saw Weakened Friends there. The audio quality is really good, especially the Bass. Street parking was not a problem at all.
ZBar is dope! It's a great atmosphere for a chill evening with the spouse, or it can be just as awesome as a venue to see a local show. The backroom add on the owners did a few years ago is fantastic. And the owners are eager to help out in the community as much as possible, which is so important and just a huge plus for this type of business. Best pinball around for sure too! Jessica
Great place to catch a show. Perfect to just hang out with friends. Great pinball area too.
Saturday nights are my favorite. There's always a great crowd and I love the dance music. This is definitely my go to place for going out on the weekend.
My top score on Galaga was 48,000. Then some young punk came in like a boss and just dropped 64,020 on me. Other than that little moment of TOTAL BS, this is a wonderful neighborhood bar with a great local music scene. Pinball as far as the eye can see. The tots are a great late night snack. Zanzabar is magic.
Great venue. The dance floor is huge. The bar is big with a huge selection. Plenty of space for listening to the band, sitting in a booth away from the band or at a table outside.
Very cool place. Like a nightclub with a local watering hole vibe.
Awesome little pub to grab a pint and a bite, chill and play pinball. On lively evenings, the live musicians hit the stage and rock out like ballers...
The kind of atmosphere you could spend the rest of your life with.
One of the best live music venues and arcades in the region
First time here. What a needle in the haystack! The bartender was very nice and friendly. Chicken quesadilla was the bomb. The drinks will definitely get you where you wanna be, and the game machines are simply icing on the cake. Will definitely refer family and friends and return in the future. Perfect place for a meet and greet!
Welcoming regulars made this much too long awaited return a relaxed journey to flavorville. The jalapeno bacon burger was delicious
Went to see the drag show on a Saturday night. It was so fun! Got some nachos to snack on and those were very good too. A fun night out.
Old atmosphere, pin ball and videos games, good food and good beer menu. In and out door eating. Concert room for different music attractions.
Very little seating, but the owner befriended us and let us sit at one of the four tables. Great venue for up close and personal viewing.
Cool hole in the wall bar with pinball machines and live music space. Good beer selection and very reasonable prices.
First time in this establishment and I was very impressed. Lots of room, killer patio and great stage. The food was delicious and tons of it. W ordered fries and chicken tenders and e got a huge basket of fries and a huge basket of tenders that were gigantic. Will definitely visit again. Oh and they have a great pinball room if you're into that.
I've been here twice over the course of several years, once for a gaming convention and this time, a concert. It's a nice and cozy place with a welcoming atmosphere. The concert hall is proportionate enough for a small-to-moderate sized crowd. Even being in the back, you don't feel like you're largely distanced from the stage and have a good view. They also have a heated patio (though not enclosed, just a few awnings) that was pleasant enough to sit in while waiting. I would definitely like to visit again f
Still the best place to get a burger in town. However, the music venue could be loud at times. So if you're looking for a relaxing dinner, you should look elsewhere!
Proper OG music club with a really cool menu. The stage room is fantastic. When you're searching for the real Louisville music scene and struggling to find it. At Zanzabar you'll 100% feel like you have arrived. Everyone was so damned nice too. You'll walk in a stranger and leave with new friends. It's that kind of joint.
Had a fun time at Zanzibar, the venue was Comey and gave you room to get pretty close to the performers, we went to see froggy fresh! It was a fun time! The staff at Zanzibar was friendly!
We came here last night for the phix concert. The atmosphere is so hometown. Kinda like a cheers vibe with a twist. The bartenders knew their drinks the door guy was very polite and friendly. I can see why the business has been going strong since 1938. Really enjoyed my time here. Ordered fries that came out tasting great. Not sure if it's cause it's bar food mixed with alcohol or because they did a great job. All around though me and the ol lady had a really good time.
We had so much fun! We went to see Jonathan Richman, and the show was amazing. We also enjoyed the food, drinks, and pinball. The staff and fellow patrons made us feel right at home. We can't wait to come back again!
Watched Louisville lose in the NCAA tournament, not so good...but Zbar gave free pizza and seeing the game on the big screen in the BIG concert room was the BEST!!
This way first time at Zanzabar. Such a cool place! I went to see the BAM Chix and the Small Town Titans. Terrific stage, cool crowd, and awesome drinks. I had an easy time parking on the street. My favorite part of the night, other than the rockin' Bam Chix, was the pinball machines!!! I felt like a little kid again playing pinball with my friends. I'll definitely go back to Zanzabar any time.
Rating is for the venue and the bar, I have not eaten there. The venue to me was a great size for a small band. Sound and lighting were good and even with a good crowd you are close to the stage. The bar had a good selection of beers and the service was great. Will be back for another concert.
A man peeped in my bathroom stall while using it from over the top . I ran out chasing him and i told the bartender but was told he's a regular he wouldn't do that? no repercussions at all. this was on emo night
One of the best small venue experiences I have had. The door guy was such a nice guy, which is pretty rare to find. The food and service was really good and the venue was wonderful. Great sound quality, great size and the rear part of the standing area is raised, which helps the entire audience see the show. 10/10 would come here again for a show or just a few drinks.
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
