Wood Dale Bowl

Wood Dale Bowl

Reviews Summary

Wood Dale Bowl is generally praised for its affordable prices, retro charm, and friendly staff, with many highlighting great deals like all-you-can-bowl specials and league fun. Families appreciate the kid-friendly atmosphere, while others enjoy the old-school vibe and solid lanes. However, a few criticize inconsistent lane maintenance, outdated equipment, and occasional unprofessional behavior from staff, particularly the owner. While most reviews are glowing (5-stars), some note limited food options or desire modern features like cosmic bowling. The consensus leans positive, with its value and nostalgic appeal outweighing drawbacks for most visitors.

Customer Reviews

This is a great bowling alley. The prices are very affordable, even the drinks at the bar. Opening the door and walking inside is like taking a step back to a few decades ago. Old screens and all. Truly a classic. My only wish is that they had a kitchen with an expanded menu. Currently they have Tombstone pizza, pretzels, and nachos.

We have been here a handful of times and quite frankly the only reason we have come back is because they don't have cosmic bowling. The owner (older guy with the beard whose daughter works the bar/counter) has been very unprofessional. He's told us in the past that even though they are supposed to close at 1-2 am they kick groups out because he wanted to leave. He has told us that he has shut off the lane on a group of paying customers because he wanted to leave before their closing hours and never bothered

Cute little family-owned bowling alley. A little dated but the lanes are pretty nice. Staff is really friendly. Fairly easy to get lanes even on league nights.

Great lanes. The staff referred to the lanes as high friction, so we had to play inside 2nd arrow. All you can bowl is a great deal at $13. We'll definitely be back.

Place was promising but the employee was a total ass when I went up to him to inform him my screen was not giving out accurate scoring he told me he already knew I asked him why give me a lane that isn't working he told me it was either the lane that wasn't working or no lane because they were full I would have rather known this information beforehand so then I could have gone to another bowling alley greedy greedy greedy also the lanes are chipped

Very rude employees. After informing them that scoring was off, they were rude about it and said it was either going to be the lane that wasn't working and had issues that they already knew about or no lane.

A family classic!! I have heard that they might be closing this bowling alley and it broke my heart. We've been going for several years and it all began on one summer when we joined the free summer bowling program for kids. We have great memories here and encourage every family to visit, at least once. It's not pricey, the pizza is delicious, and you will have a lane quickly.

Good place to bowl! Really hi standard on pattern oil. Staffs are friendly, the price is steal. The only one down side is the monitor are old but they works well never bother me

Had the best time at Fish's Birthday party last week. Everyone is wonderful that works there

The 2 stars are for the very friendly staff. They were kind and quick to accommodate me when I wanted to reserve 2 lanes for a birthday party (all other alleys were booked)...now I see why... C'mon bro you aren't even trying! Update and fix stuff! Normally I love an old bowling alley for its retro feel but this one was just janky. The equipment constantly malfunctioned: balls getting stuck, scores wrong, reset buttons not working or taking minutes to return your ball. Speaking of balls, it was very ha

No hassle getting on to a lane on a Sunday afternoon. Great Groupon deal made getting all the cousins together for an outing and affordable one. Lane kept needing to be reset so we could continue playing. Good thing it was an 8 and under crowd so they didn't mind as much.

Great little place. Very affordable. Not a ton of amenities, but the staff was great and the kids had a blast.

Decent place. Clean and well maintained. Mike at the counter was very friendly and helpful. Looking forward to going back.

Great lanes and great people - best prices around too!!

A bowler's bowling alley! Everything is clean and well maintained, lanes are well oiled. The technology and interior are straight out of the 80s and 90s. Prices are very reasonable. With Elk Grove closed, this is turning into my new go-to alley.

Very nice bowling especially for kids!! Had a blast

Great simple bowling alley. Always a good time!

My family and I had a great time. This place was able to accommodate 40+ people from ages 2-82 very well. The pizza was delicious too-it's nice they work with White Cottage so you don't have to get your standard bowling alley pizza. Overall, this place was worth it! The service put it over the top!

I like this place. If you're looking for an alley just to bowl. This is the place.

This place is great. Nice old fashioned bowling alley, good oil, good lanes. Only reason I've deducted stars is due to the fact that I had an employee try to coerce my and friends into the Flat Earth Society, while I was trying to enjoy a night of bowling. I'm happy to discuss, and disprove your conspiracy theories anytime, other than when I have paid for 2 hours of bowling and my time is ticking. Other than that, awesome spot to swing by virtually any day and get a lane. Cheap beer too!

A good ol' bowling place without any frill and fuss. The staff are all great, very helpful when answering questions. The bar prices aren't too shabby, especially the margarita pitchers! We'd definitely visit again, as it's way less crowded than other local bowling alleys.

Love this place! My sons pretty much grew up there. Always friendly & helpful. Happy New Year! Bill, Brent and LuAnn

Nice place to bowl. The fan didn't work on the ball return, and balls frequently got stuck, but it was still an enjoyable experience.

This place is good for the price, but the service isn't the best. We bowled 2 games on 2 lanes and the balls kept jamming and the lane glitched several times. The whole back of the computer actually fell off and my son almost grabbed some wires inside. Now all of that would be fine, if the staff cared about fixing any of it. Anytime we hit the intercom button or the service button, nothing would happen. After walking to the desk for help the first few times, I gave up and just let my kids bowl with the sc

Friendly staff and fun times

Love the many lanes, never over crowded. Good drink prices. GREAT VALUE, we bowled 2 games and rented shoes on a tournament night for under $15! What a steal. Love coming here with my kids too! Bumpers and cute bowling balls, plus they do have neon bowling sometimes! Love love this place

Good place for league bowling, drink prices are reasonable. Sometimes they'll put regular bowlers right next to you during league bowling. This is a problem with bowling courtesy. Lanes were nice today. It was cleaner than it was in the past. Today was another good day. Bowling, beer and music. Enjoyed the once a month league we're doing. Bowling is still good. We have several new bowlers this year. It does get a little warm sometimes. Maybe turning the heat down a couple of degrees would save some energy c

Used to go to stardust for bowling but recently had a bad experience. So wooddale bowl was our next stop to try as my boyfriend and I frequently like to bowl as a mutual hobby of ours. The staff is excellent, treats us like family. Great pricing. Cheaper in the beginning of the week -- Monday-wednesday . Specials are like 2 $ a game on their cheapest night. Shoe rental very reasonable as well. Drinks are great and non expensive. Ask for Monica at the bar. Extremely friendly/pleasant and an awesome, efficien

Great family run business! Support small business!!! Even though it maybe aged, very welcoming and everyone there is super chill!!

Very dated but I didn't mind because it reminded me of my childhood. However, the person working the counter was very rude. I asked if they were open since it was a holiday and the place was dark. They said ?no, we're just here for no reason.? If I hadn't already paid for my Groupon I would have turned around and left.

No matter how busy they are they quickly get you lanes so you can have fun. You can go to the bar and have a few drinks meet a lot of new and amazing people who could be your new best friend.

Much more affordable than the other guys, and a well-cared for alley. This is a family owned business and a local gathering place. It's like the Cheers of bowling. Friendly faces, people walking in the door and knowing each other, laughter. When you come here to bowl, you'll enjoy great lanes that are taken care of at a reasonable price, but more importantly, you'll feel at home. I suggest you always call ahead and ask when they have open bowling available just so you aren't disappointed if they are running

Well worn and very local-- Mothers with their kids and the lane bumpers went up, college kids from home, families out and about for Thanksgiving Friday. We walked into a good Thanksgiving break deal: all you can bowl for $10. A bucket of five beers for $16. Have a good, relaxing time.

I would like to thank the staff of Wood Dale Bowl. I had my sons 3rd birthday party there and everything was excellent! The staff was extremely attentive and so nice. The pizza was excellent and the party was an absolute great experience . Great place for family and friends!!!

Old school bowling alley that doesn't cost an arm and a leg! The owners were super kind. They open early! The only con was the scoring, I had to correct it several times but other than that I would 100% recommend!

Classic bowling alley! Extremely friendly staff and patrons. The atmosphere is nostalgic and welcoming. You can't beat their $12 unlimited on Sundays!!

They have a nice special with $1.99 bowling on certain nights; however, they do not offer much as far as food... popcorn and frozen Tombstone pizza are the hot menu items, but my group and I were hoping for a much better selection.

They were so great with our group, attentive to all our needs. Definitely, we would come here again!

Great place! I went with a big group and the staff was very helpful and patient. We had lots of fun and so did the kids.

Our league bowls here. I am not a bowling person so I have no idea if the lanes have enough oil on it or too much. But I do know that once a month we try and bowl with our friends and have a great time.

The lanes are horribly oiled. The staff is snarky. The price is on par with other establishments. You will definitely take a walk back into the 50s here. Just go to stardust addison.

Had a great time. Has that old school feel. Love the music playing. Keeps it fun! Staff very helpful

Great vibe the staff was absolutely amazing the environment is just all around happy no one is miserable i loved it definitely will recommend and I'll definitely be back

Friendly atmosphere, decent prices. Definitely not minding if people are masked or not, even though there is signage stating otherwise.

Best place to bowl. The prices are low, and it has a retro feel to it.

Great bowling ally. Smoke free. Lots of parking. Great place for a family outing.

Nice owners very easy to work with our charity event went very smooth and our guests had a lot of fun

Great place. Clean. No issues. The equipment always works. We enjoy taking the family there often.

One of the best family owned bowling places ever! The food is awesome! The drinks are proper! Well maintained! I had tons of fun!

I suck at bowling, but it was fun! Although...the vending machines are rather old and some don't work. The staff was very cooperative and helped when in need.

Pretty average all around. The prices on food, bowling, and beer are normally priced and of no note. The facilities are clean and they host a hilarious zoomba class in the basement.

Really chill spot , good customer service. Didn't get the employees name but he definitely had genuine good service for the people!

Good little spot to throw some games. Haven't had a league there but have done open bowl a bunch. As of 1/14/20 they have a good deal on Groupon.

0 Star Smell like 50 years old place. I call them ask it they work they say: yes On Google they open till 2am We come 12:45 and they said that we close because we clean the place already Don't recommend this place

Love love love this bowling facility best atmosphere great music owners and staff are hard working and couldn't be nicer!

Old school feel with current technology. Great service! Love this place

Great place to roll good prices and the leagues are always a blast. Our teams been here 2+ years now and we'll keep comin back!

My friends and I really enjoy coming here you can't beat $1 and $2 games and Sunday $10 all you can bowl Mike is a really cool guy we will definitely be coming back.

Great atmosphere and staff. Top notch. Mike knows how to run a great business

Great time great service bartender Monica was fabulous

It's a good bowling alley with friendly staff. Not a great place for food options but it is what you expect from a bowling alley.

Here for leagues. Always a super fun time. Staff is always friendly.

Need to keep more places like this open great for party's , so much fun .

Great..A great place to be back with fellow bowlers. The owner and staff is great and they go beyond just having a bowling alley.0

This is the best place to go with the family and the people there are awesome. I allwas have a great time here.

Terrible service and very rude

Me and my family was treated horrible by the man at the counter. Sad since we are new residents from Texas. Seem like if you wasn't a regular or in a league you dont fot in.

Old school bowling alley without all the bells and whistles. Great spot for family bowling outing. Super hospitable family owned business.

Very friendly staff, great spread on Christmas Eve. Kids Love it!

Clean, COVID safe, great drinks, no long islands when busy but still a great experience.

Great Groupon deal. Local flavor with regulars and leagues. Fun stuff but definitely old school.

Smells as old as it looks. Mildly rude owners. Can I help you would be nice. Not what you want.

Our lane messed up several times and then one of the workers got mad at us for letting them know

Fun place. Wish they would active cosmic bowling at a certain time at night though.

Nice place. First time being there was for a tournament and the lanes rolled well.

Great place love it been coming there since I was a kid always goodtimes

This place sucks. Hella outdated and ancient.

Very good bowling alley. Outside looks bit old, but fantastic place to bowl

Nick was super kind and very helpful! Would highly recommend! This place was great!

The bowling itself performs fine, but customer service was problematic. As the only customers at the location at that time, it took around 5 min. to find an employee.

Solid bowling alley. A lot of leagues and all you can bowl Sundays for $12. Loved it

Nice place...not too crowded. They had a Christmas off school special $2/game.

So fun!! Less than 20 bucks for 4 games. Can't go wrong!

This is a cool place. Still uses old tech. I like a lot. Hopefully it doesn't change.

To tell you the truth it's been awhile since I bowled there at wood Dale bowl, I still like to bowl there....

Cute locally owned bowling alley, friendly staff and good prices

A great place, great people. They treat you like family.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
