Wausau On Water (WOW Family Entertainment Center)

Wausau On Water (WOW Family Entertainment Center)

Reviews Summary

Overall, WOW offers a fun, family-friendly experience with a mix of arcade games, laser tag, and dining. Many praise the friendly staff, good food (especially cheese curds, salmon, and BBQ pizza), and scenic river views. However, some report inconsistent food quality (bland, overcooked, or cold items) and poor service in certain instances. The arcade is enjoyable but has complaints about high game costs, out-of-order machines, and limited toddler options. While most enjoy the atmosphere, a few find it overpriced or overdone. Service can be hit-or-miss, with some staff being exceptionally attentive while others are rude or unhelpful.

While this place can be fun and my kids love going, the greediness and shadiness of management takes this place way down. Anyone who comes here consistently will notice the jackpots on many games consistently go down over time. But I finally had it this last time. My kids love playing the goldfish bowl game and we noticed the ball just falling straight down in spots. We noticed these people literally took out pegs from inside the machine so the ball cannot fall certain ways lol. That is well beyond scummy.

Great time as always at WOW. Treated a Grandson to a special birthday outing alone. We went on one of the busiest days of the year and we knew it. Half price Tuesday during Spring Break. The staff met the challenge and was efficient and excellent as always. Birthday boy's choice was Nacho appetizer and pizza entree and both were excellent and affordable. Shout out to server Lily and demonstrating great patience during prize selection, Chelsea. Great, affordable experience.

We were fortunate to have chosen WOW for our Manager meeting over lunch. We had great service throughout the entire visit. Our food came timely and was fabulous! Me, my team, and family will continue coming back. Great job guys. Thank you!!

Every experience I've had at WOW has been better than the last. Staff seem to always be happy and positive, the arcade games never get old, and the food, though definitely on the pricier side, is amazing! If you traveling through the Wausau area, or live here, and have 1-2 hours to kill, stop by.

Arcade was fun - plenty of room between games to accommodate large number of occupants but the food was horrible. Our waitress was awesome, I felt terrible for her. We waited over an hour only to be told the item I ordered was no longer available - no big deal it happens - I chose another menu item. Apparently the rest of my family?s food sat while my new choice was made because everyone?s food except mine was ice cold. They gave us a discount but the food was inedible and disgusting. Won't be back. Still d

Good food at decent prices, great place for families, Lazer tag wasn't unreasonable for the time we played for. Great family outing while we were in the area! Out back they have a free, very cool playground and soft serve ice cream shop! I got the 1pounder cone for $5! EAT FAST! ?? They also have tons of other ice cream options!

Very nice location please review photos and video

Food and service was great. We had fun playing the games, unfortunately one kept going out. But they did refund me the money I was out.

Purchased the premium package for our party of 10 a week prior to our arrival. A little miscommunication regarding the laser tag but solved quickly by Dakota to be on the next reservation. Requested the cards for the arcade while we waited, and again, another miscommunication and Dakota had to track down our server to find out who had them. Once we were done with laser tag, the adults ordered entrees (4) while waiting for the kids' pizzas to be done, which we were informed would be done shortly after laser

Atmosphere was good, sadly service was not. Food arrived cold, waitress didn't seem engaged in her job - didn't apologize or check in with us. It wasn't busy. She spent a lot of time chatting with coworkers by the bar. Kids had fun at the arcade, but we're hesitant to go back for a meal.

Food was good service was great. The staff in the arcade was undertrained and rude. Staff couldn't add up the points on our cards and made a rude comment to my daughter after my wife complained about being shorted points.

The arcade games were fun, and the mac and cheese is good. However, my "'medium" burger was overdone and charred. Margarita tasted like a bad mix, but that tasted good compared to the wine. I don't expect top quality at a place like this, but this was bad even by lower standards.

Food has improved since last visit during Covid, good portions fair prices, good date night and a bike ?? ride. You can rent bike for $3 an hour at WOW beautiful Wisconsin

Had a good experience for dinner. I was with a party of 5 adults. Suggest the Giant pretzel. I was pleasantly surprised on how good this was. Service was good. Poor guy was one of 2 servers on the floor and they were busy.

Fun for the whole family, arcade games, laser tag, food and bar. Not all game give ticket rewards though, so check before playing if you are focused on winning prizes. The games that don't give tickets are still great to play though! You can save you tickets/points for future visits to get bigger prizes!

A fun place for a party! The food was okay (we had a variety of pizza where some were better than others). There is a back room to reserve if you want a private party. The servers and bartenders were great! The draft beer prices were amazing! The games are over-priced but fun. I wish we would have had time to try out the laser tag. Worth a visit, but definitely expect to spend some money.

Went here with my boyfriend. Last night had fun playing game like always. But I was very disappointed with drinks I got two Blackberry margarita got and both of them literally couldn't taste any alcohol and it was pretty much clear barely any brandy and I'm not even a drinker just got them because it was my birthday. but nachos were pretty good. And My boyfriend said his Mountain Dew tasted bad. He said tasted like it was mostly water. ?? I'll definitely be coming back for the games, but nothing else

I've been to this place now a few times and I have to say it's gotten better and better as time has gone on. The games are fun, the food and drinks are good, and the restaurant adds to the river side area as a whole. It's nice to sit outside on a nice day and watch the water and it's super fun to plays games on a Tuesday night. I'm glad this place is here and I hope they keep up the good work!

My daughter and I got drinks instantly and enjoyed playing half prices of the arcade games every Tuesday. Great place to take the kids and throw parties ????

We had an absolute blast at WOW today! This place has it all! Food, drinks, an awesome arcade, and literally the most fun Lazer tag I've ever played. They have a wide variety of games for all tastes and skill levels (and they all work- I've been to arcades where it seems like half of them are broken.) They prizes were really great, too. Fun and unique stuff, things that will actually get used! The manager, Josh was great, too. I can't say enough good about our experience today! Wellybe back soon!

An amazing place with a huge gaming room and private rooms for special events such as birthday parties. The view from the room was beautiful. The staff was very accommodating. I would have given a 5 but an associate at the ticket redemption disk refused to honor a patron who mentioned a malfunction in a machine. Rather than have the machine opened to retrieve the stuck card. The associate refused and the patron left the redemption area sad since the associate would not allow the patron to purchase the item

First time here & such a good experience, staff is super helpful & Chelsea was the best. She helped my nephew pick out his ticket prizes , was so friendly & so patient.. thank you for making this such a great experience Chelsea

Crazy fun. It really doesn't matter at what age you start. Taking your kids to this. They have something from the very small to the very big kids, including your husband LO. L. They have a good amount of games. However, there isn't too many that are built for little or kids. And I have noticed that theres some now that cost about two dollars and fifty cents for 1 play. Always look at the card pad before swiping in your card to see the amount for each play. We spent about a $100 for 3 kids and ended up Maybe

Food was what could be expected from a venue like this. I would put it slightly better than Applebee's. Service definitely could have been better. We waited multiple times on forgotten drinks, but overall I have had worse. My kids enjoyed the arcade but later in the evening it started to get packed. Overall I would go again for a drink and the games, but likely would skip the food.

Awesome place for some great fun, even for adults. Not as big as a Dave & Busters but still a good size. Coin Pusher is by fair the best game. We walked away with some of the biggest prizes and had a ton of fun as adults. (See pictures)

My wife and I went there for our first time and absolutely loved it, had such a great time that we felt like kids again! The hostess, waitstaff, bartenders, and arcade staff were all just wonderful. I had the fish and chips while she had the chicken tenders, both of which tasted great. The dining room had a nice view of the sunset which was an added bonus. The arcade was just so much fun too. We'll definitely be coming back.

It's a fun place to visit with kids. Food was ok. We liked the Chili cheese Pizza. The wings was overcooked and disappointingly cold inside. The sauce was hot but when I took a bite, the meat was cold. The server was very nice.

Last time we ordered takeout here we got the bourbon brisket grilled cheese sandwich and the brisket consisted of little cubes of fat, no meat to be found. Disgusting.

Awesome place to go to hang out and play some games, kids especially, but adults like me would love it too if they still have a little bit of a kid in them lol, also have laser tag as well. Also the food here is amazing, had korean bbq tacos that were fantastic, highly reccomend this place.

I recently had a rather disappointing experience due to a server who seemed disengaged and inattentive. While the food was as exceptional as always the service left much to be desired. However, what truly impressed me was how the owner handled the situation. Upon learning about the issue, they reached out personally to apologize and to make things right. They offered a heartfelt apology and invited us back for a complimentary meal and games , ensuring that our next visit was amazing. It's clear that they

Fun arcade. I like that you don't have to keep track of tokens or tickets, it's all on a card so you can keep accumulating at subsequent visits. Took my child and a few friends. Good time. Beautiful water views outside as well. Can't speak to the restaurant or laser tag portions.

WOW is a nice family spot with a nice restaurant and game area. It's a great place to take kids on the weekend. It even has a big laser tag arena in the back. The food is really good and the facility seems to be adding new games to the game area so it's becoming more engaging for teens and adults. There is a small party area but it's open and is a bit noisy. On busy nights, service can be a bit slow, but you can keep yourself entertained while you wait for the food.

Loud, fun, not as expensive as you might think. Definitely better in the summer when your kids can access the amazing playground outside.

Always have a good experience here with my son. Food is always good and there is a large patio if you're looking for some downtime outside. Most of the arcade games are shorter ?ticket? experiences, so if you're looking for retro arcade games this isn't the place. Plenty for kids to have a good time with, though. We make an effort always to stop in when we go to the Wausau park by the river.

Terrible experience . Very bad communication from staff. Seemed like no one wanted to be there. Waited almost an hour for our appetizers to arrive. Then another 45 minutes after that for our meals. I could understand if it was a busy night with a lot of people but not even half the seating was being used in the place. Feels overpriced for what you get. $6 for a fruit cup consisting of maybe 10 grapes and a couple pieces of pineapple and cantaloupe kinda ridiculous. Waitress seemed lost most of the night. We

I have eaten here about 6 times and every time the food has been mediocre at best! ?? Everything is bland and tastes like its prepared from frozen! Below I will mention the 3 times I was not a satisfied customer. The bourbon BBQ brisket macaroni grilled cheese sandwich is disgusting and misleading ?? it's just a huge soggy mess!! It says it's made with Kim's BBQ brisket....LOL. like who the heck is Kim?? Makes it sound like it's made in house. The Walleye dinner didn't seem like it was fresh and was a bi

Food is great, and our daughter enjoys the games and prizes! Great place for anyone!!

Good service, nice ambience, fried fish was kind of grocery store tasting and onion tree not what was expected. Was kust pile of o on rings on a stick

We had a table of 12 and the waitress that was assigned our table was absolutely horrible. We had to wait 20 minutes before the waitress even stopped by to introduce herself and get round of drinks and then it took an hour for the appetizer to come out and then we had to chase her down three hours later to get the check. Left a bad taste in our mouth with the service. When we talk to the manager, he did nothing to fix anything or take care of the issue. Just blamed the staff instead if taking ownership and

Really disappointed in the service here. My first time going with my family and we were all excited. We walked in and went to the host counter and told them directly that we'd like a seat. Nothing. They didn't look up at us and were hunched over playing on their phones. It was EXTREMELY rude and uncomfortable for me and my family. We asked them again, louder this time. Again, nothing. We then asked if we could sit down and one of them just shrugged and mumbled sure, while still looking at their phone. So we

My kids love the arcade. Always a good time. Lunch today was very disappointing. It took a very long time to even have a server greet us. Nearly 20 mins before a drink was delivered. Another 40 before food came out. All food and drinks were ordered at the same time. Our cheese curds came out a minute before the entrees. Most of the food was lukewarm. My food was literally cold. The refire was warm at best. I ordered wings. The server checked on us once after food was delivered and by this point I was just r

It's pretty safe bet to order a burger, right? Well tonight we were proven wrong when my boyfriend noticed halfway through his burger that It was completely raw. Without the taste being covered up by eggs bacon and other toppings, he would?ve noticed right away. We did bring it to our waitresses attention and they took the entire burger off the bill. Just a fair warning to check your food before biting into here.

I absolutely love WOW! I'm so happy it was open on Easter so my family could do something fun! The guy behind the counter was extremely friendly and amazing. The game we were playing kept having the coins and cards get stuck so he had to come and fix it multiple times and he never complained once! He never had a dirty look on his face or his friendly demeanor never changed. Yes, it can get expensive but it's completely worth it!

Really fun and clean place to take the family. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Ate dinner here and the food was awful. We ordered two orders of chicken wings and the both orders the chicken still had feathers attached. The nacho chips were burnt and the guacamole looked like it had been sitting out since the morning. We sent it all back. The waitress was apologetic. At one point we asked and the hostess as she was walking by if she could get our waitress for us and she said ?maybe, if I can figure out who it is...? Ok? Kids liked the games but do not expect good food.

Good balance of wall to keep the game noises down . Friendly staff .good mac and brisket.

Stopped here with a group of 10 on Saturday evening. The pizza was cold when we received it. The hamburgers were way overdone and like a hockey puck. However, the salmon was very good. Overall, I was very disappointed with the food. Unfortunately, I'll probably not stop here again.

It was a very good experience. It was my first time there and I had a really good time. The food was great me and my Grandson had chi tea lattes and we shared a BBQ chicken pizza. My son had beer cheese mac cheese. The waiter was very polite and attentive to us. We all had a really great time.

We arrived about 4:30 on a Thursday, were placed promptly at a table with menus and silverware. We left at 4:55 after we received no further service. We were able to observe all the families arriving after us being seated and immediately greeted by waitstaff who were quick and friendly and placed their orders. We were seated in between the other tables, and there was a low volume of restaurant guests at the time we were there. All of these waitstaff walked right past our table to greet the other guests an

Great place to take the kids! Pizza was delicious and our server was friendly. So many different games for all age groups. Prices where decent.

It was good but not exciting. Over priced games and food was probably the best!

Do not go here for food! Service is usually bad, but worse is the food. Our pizza was raw both times we ordered it in the middle. Tator tots tasted 3 hours old reheated. Arcade is great just eat before you come

WOW restuarunt was awesome. Great food, we went for Fish Fry and it was Great. After grab a card and go play some games.

Big expansive building built by the city to try and impress visitors. It's a little overdone

i came in yesterday around 6pm and sierra was the girl training with my table. she was very friendly and professional definitely want to recommend her next time. she did an amazing job please let her know

Love this places, it's beautiful...with game facility and little bar inside and out site the game facility building

WoW restaurant and bar is a hidden gem. Their food selection is a mix of pub grub and some nicer entr?es. They have a full bar, and their drink prices are decent. Their staff was very attentive and engaging. We will be back to try other food items.

So much fun for kids and adults. Great food polite staff .

WOW is a great place for kids to burn energy or for adults to have a nice meal. The staff are all real nice and helpful, especially in the arcade. If you're wondering what WOW is, if you've ever been to a Dave and Busters or a Main Event its kind of like that, just smaller.

Dinner was amazing. The staff was working hard and fast but needed some help so the bar tender stepped in to take tables. Kim was our bar tender and server and she was fantastic! Some of the best table service we have had, ever. Our whole party loved her. She even scolded the kitchen staff for us when they goofed a sandwich up. She credited us a portion of that item as well. What a superstar!!

Went for a kids birthday party for my son, our waitress Brenda was great. The food was good, even the Gluten free pizza! Lots of space to sit and visit in the bar area, while the kids played games. The birthday party package was well worth it, as each kid got a card and that was worth it!! Best part no cleaning up! Will be back again.

Great place for having fun with the family. The restaurant and arcade are separate, so you can enjoy a nice meal and then go "play". I found the noise from the arcade disturbed my dining experience, but my kids didn't seem to mind! The food was reasonable and had adult meals as well as kid friendly food. I had the salmon and it was fantastic! The boys had mac and cheese with bacon. They loved it! It looked delicious, too. The arcade had a good variety of games, a little something for everyone. Ov

Had a great experience sitting outside under an umbrella with a great view of the river. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The fish and chips was very good. Love the special tartar sauce. Their menu is very extensive and next time we will try a pizza. Oh I almost forgot - the fried pickles were the best I ever had. Several long lightly breaded crunchy spears. Almost a meal in itself. Only negative was that since we were on the patio no glass is allowed outside. My gin and tonic was just no

Great experience for kids of all ages. We had a blast and there is a play and excersise area next door with icecream.

Great place. Tasty food. Fun arcade area. Nice bathrooms. Staff said can't order food and walk around. Other than that would be 5 star. If you paid for a drink or cheese curds I'd like to have my food and watch my kids play and spend money.

Great atmosphere great staff... just loved it! Food was phenomenal! 5 stars all day long!!!!!!

Don't dine in with a large group. We were very excited to eat here again while visiting family. We have a larger group 12 adults and 4 babies. We were given a ?limited? menu to chose our meals from due to the size of our group. It was a 1/4 the size of the actual menu. When we asked about ordering from the regular menu we were told by the rude waitress Alexis that if we don't like it them We should leave which we did unbelievable rude and unfortunately a loss of business for them. Poor customer service

Great place for families! For what we have in wausau it's pretty good. It's next to the water for a pretty scenery, has a kids playground, and also briks during summer hours. There is a restaurant but from my past experience, you'll be waiting a long time to be served.

My recent experience at this establishment during a family outing with 20+ people left me feeling quite disappointed. The initial setup for our seating took an unusually long time, and even after being seated, we had to scramble to find additional tables and seats due to inaccurate counting and lack of accommodation despite our prior requests. One major issue was the limited menu offered for larger groups; a detail we were not informed of beforehand. This 'party' menu introduced new options not found on th

We had a blast at WOW. One of the best places to go in Wausau

Planned a group event at WOW with colleagues. Everything set up as discussed, food good, servers and bartenders went out of their way to make it a fun, relaxed time. Everyone enjoyed!!

If you want to get divorced from a bunch of cash, come here! Ouch! You can have a meal at the complex, too, and that wasn't too bad. Actually it was quite good as the wait staff were quite nice and the food was good too. If you have a bunch of kids that need entertaining, maybe this place is for you.

Despite having lost the reservation for my 14 yo son's laser tag birthday party ??, I *still* rate this place a 5! Jodi was great at planning the party (even though she missed sharing the plan with the team). They were extremely accommodating when we got there, given they were totally taken off guard by the group of anxious teenagers. Philip, our server, was very attentive and kind throughout our visit. The pizza was better than any pizza I've ever had at a kids party! And the arcade games and laser tag wer

Facility is extremely fun for kids and families. Food has been hit or miss. Recent visit we had 3 of the WOW burgers. Overcooked, did not taste like beef, patty appearance made it tough to eat as well.

Super good burger/fries! Definitely reccomend!

Fun family place. Food was good and very nice service. They could use more games. We had to take turns with other guest there.

From St.louis, MO here for granite peaks to snowboard. Your food in this town is amazing but my wife and I are wing snobs and WOW has hands down the best wings I've tasted from coast to coast. The food in this town alone was worth the trip.

Love this place. The games are great to keep the kids occupied or even make for an amazing date night! Laser tag is open again and their set up is so cool! Be that as it may, the arcade isn't the reason to go, in my opinion it's the food I thoroughly enjoy. I've been there a handful of time and each and every time the wait staff is delightful and the food is prepped with standards and it shows. Not much of a drinker these days but they had some decent beer tapped too; it is Wisconsin after all. :)

The kids(teenagers, a few 21 year olds) always love going here. It's an amazing to place to go on a Sunday or Friday or even during the week. They have coffee, regular and decaf, plenty of games. Plenty of running around space. The bar/dining/ game area are well placed.

We had a small retirement party there yesterday over lunch. The manager I spoke to a couple times setting it up was awesome. Wasn't expecting it to be so "set up" I figured it would just be the pizzas we ordered on our table, but they set up a nice buffet table. Every staff member I bothered with a request was super nice. Our waitress Brittany did an awesome job. An all around great experience!

I have eaten here on many occasions and the food and drink have been great. The staff are super nice and attentive. If you think you don't want the arcade atmosphere and how good could the food be?,,,just try it, you will be happy. Oh the cheese curds are the REAL deal, not prebreaded frozen, then deep fried like too many places pass off. The river view is delightful as well. I am hoping this place is very successful in the future.

My son and I love coming here. The laser-tag is amazing. The food is exceptional aside from a bit of a wait to get a table and then again once seated to order. However the food was outstanding! My only complaint about the arcade is there's seemingly always a higher than what I think should be normal amount of ?out of order? machines. All in all we love it here.

The food and service was not bad. The cost of the games are a little pricey. And they don't really have any games that toddlers can play ??

Had a great spontaneous day in the recently rearranged arcade with our 9 year old! Arcade side everything was top notch. We paused for dinner and that side was disappointing. Took 15 minutes to seat the three of us in a nearly empty dining room. After we were seated it was puzzling to see about 15 employees who were mostly interested in talking with each other, including some pausing to eat and drink themselves. Food was quick and above average so that was nice. 45 minutes and we only saw our waiter 3 times

The waitress was nice and the cheese curds were good. My burger was not good, it was burnt, dry, and smelled funny. The beef smelled funny and tasted awful. The rest of the meal was good. I think they need to do something about the taste of their burgers.(the beef)

As bar food goes, this is very good. Great cheese curds and onion rings. Many beers on the river. Went again today 8-5-23 food is really good quality. Congrats to the chefs. Not just bar food.

Went here for the first time. I have to say I was totally amazed. This is just what Wausau needed! I met my friend and our kids are both around 18 months. Lunch was great lots of healthy options and the fresh fruit was actually fresh berries! The food was great. Reasonably priced, great portions. We let the kids play around in the arcade they loved looking at the lights and played a few games that they could. Everything was very clean. Staff was super friendly. Loved it! Can't wait to go back!

We we just went for Valentine's Day dinner and it was amazing!!!

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Why are arcade prize games so exciting to play?

Arcade prize games are a thrilling highlight in 2025! Claw machines, skee-ball, and ticket-redemption games like basketball offer a rush of skill and chance, with rewards like plushies, toys, or electronics up for grabs. Modern machines feature vibrant lights, digital scoreboards, and responsive controls, amplifying the fun. The lively arcade atmosphere, with cheering crowds and buzzing energy, makes every win feel epic.
