I always have a great time coming in here. Talking to the staff about consoles and looking at the blend of old and new games is amazing. (And staring longingly at their wall, waiting until I can afford a Wii U. One day?) Always great fun!
This place has taken my game knowledge to new heights and has opened up my eyes to new titles everyday and classics from my childhood. Every employee is friendly, cooperative and really fun to talk to about anything, i recommend this place to anybody looking to expand their horizons in gaming, movies, anime and toys. Plus The claw machine here isn't a scam and actually works.
Basically became my local arcade, very clean shop! Amazing and awesome staff that has no issues talking nerd stuff with ya! Also, just wanted to show off that I currently hold the record for Galaga in the store! #It'sOnLikeDonkeyKong to anyone who wants to surpass it! PS. to the previous record holder, don't hate me please lol.
I would recommend trading in your games or just coming by to watch how attentive and polite these workers are!!^ Especially Max!! He made me feel like a priority from the moment I came in the door! I would come back to either buy games or sell!! They're very fair! 11/10!! Better than GameStop by every means possible ?????????? Thank you Video Game Rescue And thank you Max for taking them time to test every console and games!! You're a MVP!!
Great selection of new and classic games. Where they really shine is on accessories for classic systems, like NES, SNES, and Genesis. Maurice, Mark, and Casey were very helpful. They have a wide selection of original used and brand new controllers. The inventory changes often but they usually have the big name games for older systems. Their prices seem inline with the current retro market. Additionally they have a lot of really cool toys and posters. The arcade has some older classics, as well as MvC2
My hubby and I were having problems getting local 2 player games for the PlayStation 5 so we went in to the store and asked for advice. They suggested the Wii U so we bought the system and we are completely happy. The staff took their time to explain all the different abilities and got up hooked up with everything we needed. We are GenX so it took a lot of time to explain everything and we will continue to shop only there. Their knowledge and expertise can't be matched by corporate type stores?
This place is very cool and if you love video games or the 80s it's fun!!! My son loves this place!!! The staff here is the friendliest and dedicated to their job like no others. Definitely recommend over any other game store in all Jax. VGR you guys are awesome!!!!
Freakin love these dudes. Great vibes all-around. Arcade area has an awesome array of pinball machines. So happy they made it thru covid ?? much love to Jared, Morrison & Steven (sorry if i got the names wrong my dudes)
Great little shop with everything from Super Nintendo to PS5 they also have some movie, wrestling, and anime merchandise. Did a small sale of some old games and a system and they took a little to go through them and check they worked but eventually offered a fair price, a significant amount more if you take store credit.
Great store. Will definitely be back. I think I got a fair trade for our Wii and used it all up on a bunch of PS3 games. Friendly staff, great service. Would have loved to have more time.
Great store with an actual arcade, from classics to new pinball machines. Prices are reasonable and they even have an ATM and change machine.
Cheaper than gamestop if you are looking for games, you can trade and sell if you have anything. Good selection of equipment and movies. Haven't been in there but they have old school arcade games.
Great shop and arcade, good selection of games and fair prices. Very cool small arcade. A must stop if I'm in the area again.
The store is a temple for video games, while on a quick trip I found this hidden gem. Great service and great stock. The staff is very friendly and knows what you're talking about even at the most obscure of requests. The arcade was small but not crowded and they where 50 cents a play which was a great throwback to the arcade days. I don't have anything bad to say about VGR except that I wish I had more time to spend in the store!
Went in to buy an Xbox classic, they said they had been tested with a disc and all. Lies, the console was clearly tampered with in the past, leaving the old modded operating system still in which they had no idea about, but the worst part is they said I get a "warranty" which normally means money back, but even though i took it back within 24 hours these people still kept my money and only gave me store credit, which I was basically pressured into spending the same day. Never going back, glad I spent my wor
Excellent place to find vintage and retro games. Lots of selections, and accessories. The arcade is awesome too!
Super helpful and knowledgeable. Love the retro gaming scene. We were looking for an XBox 360 power cord and they were able to find the right one.
Found a place to call home. I didn't know what I needed until I stepped into this store. HDMI cable for Dreamcast, old Sega Genesis football game and classic Gundam PS3 game. They made my day with all these cool things. Didn't have time to play in the arcade. That's on the next visit.
The owner is very cool, nice selection and in general just good vibes!!
I heard of this place by someone I was buying something off of from Marketplace. He was selling his own things, but still took the time to tell me how reasonable this place is. I'm glad I tried it out! I'm in my 40s collecting retro consoles for my kids and we had such a good time talking about 1st Gens. They have the most reasonable prices and are the nicest, patient, most helpful people. 100% will be back, and very soon! Update: Not a fluke. 2nd visit as great as the first!
Always a great time here. Top tier customer service from Dustin and crew. Hard to find accessories, collectibles the MURAL, and you can't forget the OLD SKOOL ARCADE!?? Local spot you won't soon forget.
Loved this place the staff were super friendly and very helpful great conversation, and even better selection of retro games. Also they have a REAL arcade attached to the store Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the arcade game enough said. I highly recommend.
The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The store is well organized and clean. The arcade room is spacious and has a myriad of titles. They have great features for their customers such as customer appreciation rewards and a wishlist for games not in stock. No matter what system or platform you use, they have something for everyone!
This place right here has opened the vault of my gaming childhood and found games for my N64, gamecube and playstation consoles dont get me wrong i love gamestop but this has become my go to especially being such an avid gamer
We stopped by Video Game Rescue and were quickly greeted by Maurice who provided a tour and took us through their arcade. They have such a fun selection of arcade games and a unique collection of imported, retro, and current video games. What sold the store for us was definitely the customer service. Maurice and Jared were friendly and knowledgeable and instantly made us feel welcomed. We can't wait to return with cash so we can play in the arcade!
Awesome place to shop. Everyone is super friendly and very helpful. Absolutely love this place.
Very cool place, they have a really good selection of stuff to buy and also they have a really good arcade, another thing to note is that they have a machine that lets you resurface games, I got some Wii Games resurfaced there, and they got some of them back to near perfect condition, also the people who work there are very nice, also, they replaced one of my game cases for one in better condition (game case was for the same game lol)
The workers in the shop are seemingly not trained in repairs, not able to communicate with customers, and have very little knowledge of the products they sell nor the services they provide. The associates seem lost in their own thoughts and are unable to help over 3 visits for 3 simple repair or purchase questions. I would skip this place unless you just want to play in their arcade. The arcade is dope, and the best thing about it is that not 1 employee will bother you while you play since they're so bus
This is the best gaming store in the west side! Always attentive and professional and everything is priced reasonably,
It's a local place that has all your video game needs covered. I went there to get a new controller for my PS4. They had and at a good price. The coolest thing about the place is the old school pinball and video game room they have.
Great store! I dropped by for the first time and felt like a kid again. Great selection and they have an arcade as well. Staff was great and I will definitely drop by again!
Nothing like being at home short story is that I was actually abandoned at Orange Park Hospital back in June 11th 1986 so anytime I come to Jacksonville it makes my life more complete . What a Wonderful retro gaming store in Jacksonville one of the best I've been to in all of my time collecting video games. I would give 20 Stars if I could the staff at this particular retro gaming store are very respectable very professional and and extremely business inclined. There is a large variety of games for all
Found them on google! Very friendly and nice! I will be coming back! ??
Great inventory, attentive and knowledgeable staff. Always a good experience!
Everyone single one of the staff was awesome and very helpful. They all went above and beyond when helping me even though the selection for the system I was looking for on this trip was in short supply. I would definitely be returning to them on future visits.
Went in to this place to sell some items for cash. Just so everyone is aware, they are in the business to make the most off of you whilst purchasing items for dirt cheap. I can't believe that GameStop of all places offered more for a mint condition switch lite. I even sold my gameboy color that was modded which the mod itself cost more than what they offered. It's a shame I was in the financial bind or else I wouldn't have sold my switch lite for $60 dollars or my modded gameboy color for $50 that we all kn
My husband heard about this place and was told it was a great place to find original Game Cube controllers. We arrived hoping to find one, but we were told that they seldom had controllers in stock because they have a group of Smash players who gobble them up on Thursday nights. A little disappointed about the selection and quantity of preowned items in the store... there's just not a whole lot on there, but still some pretty cool stuff in there as well as an arcade. For anyone who might need a controller,
I spent some serious time today in the store with Jared helping me. He was extremely informative and helped me bundle a large number of games for my collection. He even gave me a bulk discount and threw in a Mountain Dew for my time. He's a true professional when it comes to retro video games! The store itself is also great! Lots of nostalgic pieces from games (tons of them!) to movies (VHS, DVD), toys, figurines, etc. go into the back room for their insane collection of arcade/pinball cabinets! Dozens of
Some of the most knowledgeable and friendly folks you'll ever meet!!!!! Love the arcade and love the deals!!!!
Friendly staff, fair prices and usually have a wide selection of products for all retro
Great store! Super friendly staff. There are retro arcade machines, air hockey, and there was a room with a table with several people playing an rpg. What a great find! Highly recommend!
Had a great experience with awesome customer service. Highly recommend their disc repair and battery replacement services for games. Nice to have life put back into old games I thought were done for. They have a great selection of games to buy and arcade cabinets to play, run plenty of events and are very active locally, wish I could give them more than 5 stars!
Very clean and well organized. Great location however seemed like a limited selection.
Jared was super knowledgeable and did a trade in for my family. Told us how to access all kinds of games online. Plenty of space for gaming tournaments and lots of pinball games to play! All kinds of Japanese games and figure?s available. Very worth traveling 45 min to get here! Will return for more!
Very cool store with nice staff and decent selection
Maurice was working the day I went. Very nice, very friendly, wanted to give back to customers and said first time customers was his favorite! Maurice even offered to show us around the arcade. Very cool video game shop!
Sweet Little arcade in the back if you're into playing pinball they will actually give you matches here for free games unlike whoever owns the games that are at Keg & Coin and Walrus. So come on over here if you want to feel appreciated for your pinball time and money.
Best spot in town for all your used and new gaming needs. Also don't miss the arcade in the back.
Neat store with a very good selection and a little arcade that takes cash. The staff are cool as well. My favorite arcade game from here is Pop'n Music. I'd stop by again sometime in the future if I manage to move up to Jax.
Came to this small, dumpy, poorly lit location to play some arcade games. The little shop was dead inside and didn't have arcade games anymore.
Love this place. I hadn't gamed in years, and before I moved to Jacksonville I found my old game consoles from my childhood and started playing them again. I was happy to find this place because they sell games from all different eras and I get to relive a little bit of my childhood. The owner is a friendly guy and even has an arcade at the store.
Incredibly cozy store with an even cozier arcade in the back. Great prices and great trade in value. Sells everything from retro to modern games, consoles, and accessories. Also sells various little trinkets and figurines from different media. They even take requests and host events/parties. Definitely deserves your business and support. I'll be back often to see what's new. Love this place.
This store is a little slice of retro, nostalgic heaven. Very knowledgeable staff and a wide variety of everything video games and pop culture! They also have an ARCADE with a lot of great games I played when I was a kid. I LOVE VGR!!!
If you guys are looking for some awesome pinball machines to play you need to check this place out! They also have a great selection of arcade games and a store full of games for sale for many different platforms!
This store is great. They have a huge selection of games and consoles from NES to PS5. Customer service is outstanding. I recently called looking for a couple Pok?mon games for Wii. They were happy to check and although they didn't have the games I was looking for, they offered to put me on a list to receive a text when one comes in. A++
Video Game rescue has always, and will always be my favorite Video Game store in all of North Florida! The owner Dustin is extremly nice and is very knowledgeable with old games, and systems. He also greatly cares about the community. I am at his store once or twice a week to see my friends and play with the amazing board game collection they have on their weekly Wednesday board game night. He has recently started hosting a cosplayer workshop once monthly to help out the local cosplayers and I am excited to
Always a favorite place to get retro games and always have a good selection and excellent quality control
Fantastic shop. Employees are incredibly friendly & helpful. Prices are very good for older titles that can be hard to come by. I grabbed a few ps1 and ps3 games, under eBay prices and in perfect shape! The arcade is also much larger than I thought it would be. If I had the time, I could have spent hours in this place. Check it out!
Jared is a fantastic vibe. From one service worker to another, dude has great sociability. Come in every blue moon, the store always has a great selection, I was super bummed when the 2nd location across the Buckman closed down. It was right down the street from me. My only complaint is y'all got ride of your air hockey table and now I have a jar of quarters collecting dust.
Their staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about games and consoles. They're welcoming and very understanding of any confusion. Bring cash to turn into change (they have a machine for change) for the arcade in the back and you're guaranteed to have a great time. Prices are also very fair, and you can trade in your games and consoles for cash or store credits.
Excellent atmosphere for the seasoned gamer and newcomer alike. Your money is better spent here than GameStop. I saw kids drop their bikes by the front door, enter and then promptly exit with chips in hand. Reminded me of my childhood. ??
You know the arcade is great when the first thing you see is a House of the Dead cabinet
I brought my son in to take a look around and see about selling some games. This place was awesome, so many new and retro items. Even had a physical arcade, with the possibility to rent out for parties. The gentleman that waited on us was a wealth of knowledge and wonderfully patient with my son (he's autistic) he spoke to him to handle his transaction with the care and respect. We will definitely return and this is we're we will spend our money. Thank you for the awesome experience.
Holy cow! I was blown away by how kind and professional these folks were. I was looking to sell my 25-30 year old collection of games and sound tracks, and they were completely honest with their values and gave me more than I expected in trade. They could have very easily just offered minimal like a pawn shop would, but they painstakingly looked up the value on every little thing I brought.... and it was quite a bit of stuff! I'm very appreciative of these fine people and look forward to visiting again!
Good broad selection of both common and hard to find retro games. And their arcade attached has a small collection of arcade games worth looking at.
Nice store. Excellent staff. Good pricing.
This place rules! The staff are always friendly and if you're lucky they'll be chatting about something cool and you're often welcome to chime in. The selection is unheard of, often finding gems and classics around every corner. Fantastic arcade with great selection of pinball and other stand up machines. I always play the sit down crazy taxi. YA YA YA YA. The prices are fair and the trade in credit seems way higher than other places. Really just an incredible place.
They are awesome. I went in to inquire about getting my granddaughter a switch lite. I ended up selling my Nintendo 64 with games and was able to get her the switch and 3 games. Steven and Mark (hope I got that right) were so patient with me and were very professional. I would recommend them10x over! Thanks again!
I loved this atmosphere, prices around this area arent crazy no matter where you go for this kind of store. That being said the assistants were super responsive, greeting as you come in, eager to help you find whatever you need and knowledgeable enough about their inventory to point to the shelf with your item more than half the times you ask. Worth the trip if nothing else to get an arcade session in. ????
This store rules. Fair prices, good selection, knowledgeable and friendly staff. But THEN throw in a rocking little arcade! With some of the latest Stern pinball machines? My wife and I were visiting family in Florida and I like to visit local game shops to see the selection and support the hobby. This is one of the best stores I've visited in the country. Great vibe. Great for the hobby. Awesome place, and if the second location is anything like this one, I'm sure it's just as good
Great game store! The employees are always very helpful. Prices and selection are also good.
Spots like this are hard to come by here, and I'm glad there are people willing to keep retro arcades open. The consoles here are fairly priced and are high quality with plenty of options for controllers and games. A great atmosphere and knowledgeable staff make it a fantastic place to buy retro and even modern games.
My brother and I shop often here. The arcade in the back room is Jax?s best kept secret if you're into retro gaming. I have traded some NES games and was surprised at the high amount of trade in credit value I got. Will definitely visit again.
This video game store is superior to all the others I've visited in the area. Not only a store for classics, but doubles as an arcade. The staff is super cool and laid back. The highlight has to be the claw machines. They are a quarter a pop and have games as prizes! Will always visit when I can.
Staff is super nice and knowledgeable! They have a lot of great games, Japanese imports and cool stuff.
This place is awesome they have a huge selection of games. Maurice was the best his customer service skills are through the roof he really helped us out when we had trouble with the gacha machine. 5 stars for sure!
Mark came through for me on this Turbo Grafx system bundle. Always nice and mindful. Will be back soon.
Loved this store, friendly employees who you could chat with forever about retro games. Good prices, while many other game stores in big cities would overprice games, these folks have pretty good prices. Large arcade with something for everyone. This store really gives off a vibe of a retro game store, it's just a great place to be and I cannot wait to go back!
Very cool place to trade in your old treasures. My three boys went in with old Nintendo switch games and DS games and the trade in value was nuts! Totally worth bringing your goodies here. Kids played retro arcade games in the back and shopped with their credit. Very cool hang out. Super friendly guys working the store. Kacey helped us out and was easy to work with. My kids want to come back and we will absolutely bring them. We plan to turn our Airbnb garage into a gamer lounge and I'll be hitting this pla
This is the best experience you could ask for. Any questions were thoughtfully answered and great items to choose from. We were assisted by Steven T. Who was beyond helpful. I needed to test some items I found while cleaning. They worked! Thank you again Steven we will be back!
I no longer have to shop at game stop thanks to the amazing services I received at VIDEO GAME RESCUE thanks to general manager Steven. He went above and beyond to make sure I was a happy customer and even was considerate of my lunch break; because he was aware I would be visiting during a break from work. WILL SHOP HERE AGAIN very soon??
Great Classic and Modern Game shop! Of course it leans closer to classic games. The staff was really cool and helped me with whatever I need and gave me some great deals on their figurines. Instead of talking me up to get more expensive gear he presented me with the best options for my needs, which was cheaper than what I intended on buying originally. Their prices are very reasonable based on the condition of the products. I highly recommend this store!
Amazing game store and fun arcade. Prices for Buy, Sell, Trade are usually fair and to the customer's favor. Local business and the owner does a lot for community events, conventions, and culture. Good place to spend some time and money.
This store is amazing, and my family and I have come here several times for special outings or for birthdays. We have thoroughly enjoyed playing the old arcade games. Definitely something to check out when you are visiting Jacksonville!
Mark provided exceptional customer service and helped me navigate through the trade-in process smoothly during my recent visit. Would definitely recommend VGR to my friends looking for quality service and fair trade-in deals.
I had alot of fun here the guy at the counter was really nice and i bought super mario land for my gba sp i was worried it wouldn't work but after a few of my tries my grandma tried and got it working if your into classic gaming like me then id recommend this place A little tip for online shoppers check this place before going on something like amazon/ebay i bought a gba sp on amazon for almost 70 dollars and they had it for a better price But 10-10 loved it
The staff was super easy to work with. I had a lot of retro and sealed amiibo and they gave me a great offer for everything. The selection of games between the two stores is awesome. Definitely a 10/10 for your neighborhood game store.
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds. Though less common than video games, pinball’s tactile charm and community vibe make it a standout arcade experience in 2025.
Absolutely, retro games in arcades remain a thrilling draw in 2025! Classics like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Street Fighter II offer simple yet addictive gameplay, blending nostalgia with timeless challenge. Modern arcade cabinets often feature crisp displays and restored controls, enhancing the experience. These games thrive on quick reflexes and strategy, with vibrant pixel art and iconic soundtracks that spark joy. Arcades host tournaments and leaderboards, fostering a lively community. While modern games dominate, retro titles provide a unique, accessible thrill that keeps arcades buzzing.
