Video Game Depot is a great shop for brand new games or the old vintage ones. They have great customer care every time I walk into their store. And if they don't have a game you're looking for, they'll keep an eye out and let you know if one comes across their counter.
WARNING: DO NOT BRING YOUR CONSOLES/ACCESSORIES HERE FOR REPAIR. You're better off looking for an eBay shop that does and having them repair your console. Video Game Depot are more than likely stealing and reselling the stuff and giving customers the runaround to contact Yeti Games. Guess what, Yeti Games is also Video Game Depot under a different moniker. Like, why not just direct the customer straight to Yeti Games than being the drop-off location? And Yeti Games also shares the same address as Video Game
Family owned and always friendly staff. It's always a joy every time I pop in. With rare gems for just about every console, there's something here for everyone. If you're looking for something specific, the staff are more than happy to help you find it or order it. I recommend this shop to my friends, be it for their gaming or console needs. Definitely check them out!
This place! I brought my brothers PS2 in to be repaired and was told it would take a few weeks. Now almost a year later they still have his console. This is insanity. Straight theft! I can't get any answers, I keep getting the run around and no one will take responsibility! If you can't fix it then say that and RETURN the console, if you can, then do it and then RETURN the console. What should have been a simple transaction has now turned into a business stealing from me. What is going on here?
Had one of the many retro games that I've been looking for. Friendly staff, amazing game selection. Ill be going back there to get more NES and SNES games for sure!
WOW look at reviews!!!! We also have a Mario 3DS with them for 2 years of excuses. Cant find parts! I am going tomorrow to ask for it back. Wish me luck. Should I call police if they dont give it back? And show police all the "stolen" reviews? I am very concerned about our Mario 3DS now..... I will be filing a police report if they do not give it back.
It's been 11 months and we still have not received our ps2 back. Abhorrent customer service. When you walk in they will just say "parts haven't come in try next friday". Seems like it's not just us.
This is my personal favorite video game store because of its wide range of games, there membership is free, and holiday sales!
Awesome! Lots of older video games and accessories you can't find anywhere else.
This was my 1st time there. I heard about about this place but I didn't know what to expect. I'm glad that I went. They had to make a lot of changes due to covid and everything, but its still worth it to go. They have a great selection of game (both older and newer). I had thr great opportunity to speak with the owner son (sorry I forget his name). He is very knowledgeable and was able to answer my questions. Wr even had a good chat and I got to know about his and his families business better. They are goo
We went on vacation in Alaska in the summer of 2022. Video Game Depot was an EXCELLENT spot to shop for retro games. The owner is a character, and it's obvious that video games are his passion! Thank you, Video Game Depot! Cheers from Texas. ??
Dropped my brother?s consoles off for repair back in 2021 so I can play them and have some bit of nostalgia after he passed away. Over the next two years I proceeded to hound them about getting my consoles back with excuses of ?the parts haven't come in yet? and ?I haven't had the chance to look at them?. After I moved out of state, I stopped trying to contact them. It's been 3 years and still nothing. Do NOT give your consoles to them for repair.
Awesome family owned small business who is always extremely helpful when i come in and can't make up my mind. The guys are friendly and make funny jokes. The only issue I have there is not being able to choose between all the games they offer. Highly highly reccomend and love to go back!!
This place has stolen my ps3. I've called multiple times and asked what is happening with my ps3. The store workers do not know what is going on with my ps3 and tell me that someone else will call me back with an update. I brought my ps3 here to get fixed in February. At this point I don't even want it fixed, I just want it back. Update about two years later, they gave me a number to call and every time I call the number they don't answer or it goes straight to voicemail. I gave up on trying to get my ps3
I came in to buy a GameCube Power Cord but got completely distracted with all the retro games in there. I actually ended up buying the DMG GameBoy. I grew up with the DS Lite (I'm 14 so it makes sense) but the GameBoy series and just old games from Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony (Sega and Atari not so much) are just so COOL! I also got a couple games like both of the Super Mario Land's, Links Awakening, and a couple others that are actually being returned today because they weren't that fun. I guess while I'
The staff here is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. They are quick to answer question and keep the store looking great. They have a large selection of games from retro consoles to modern games. If you can't find what you are looking for they are happy to put your name in a waitlist and let you know if it comes in. Great local spot for games.
I dropped my ps5 off here to be fixed about 3 months ago and have not heard anything back. The staff here were very nice and helpful but when going back to the store to get an update on how long it's going to take to get my console back they always say 2-3 days and it's been months. I would appreciate more accurate estimates on how long it's going to take to get my console back
They have a great selection of vintage & exotic games. The prices are fair and you should definitely sign up for their membership. You can get discounts on their offerings and trade-in bonuses. If you're just visiting the area, they will even ship out to you wherever you live. They have an online store which is constantly updated with their available games and consoles. Come check them out!
Took my daughter?s switch to be fixed at the end of December 2023. It is now the middle of May 2024 and we still do not have it back. We have texted Yeti?s repair tech line regularly, all with answers of ?it'll be done x day? and then nothing. The latest one was that it would be ready this past Sunday. Nothing. I'm beginning to think it's being held so they can claim possession for resale. The communication definitely needs improvement. Half a year almost for them to fix something they said would only take
Times were wrong on google maps for sunday. Said 12am-6pm but should have been 12pm-6pm. They did open the door and were helpful. When i returned after they opened, it aas a pretty cool store which had a bit of everything.
This place is awesome if you're into vintage games. The selection is big but if they don't have it they'll put you on a list to text if they get it. They also do disk resurfacing and console repair.
I pretty much buy only from Video Game Depot, unless I can't. I've gone to the owner looking for consoles and games of all kinds. I've be overwhelmed with the help given to me. I tell him all the time I prefer to buy from here before I go anywhere else. This place gets the gaming community, and gives back so much. Sadly its not the same way around I think. I find the humor is good and their very knowledgeable about game and consoles. I've bought a fair amount of things from here, and I'm glad to say never
Great selection and prices. The owner is super nice and incredibly knowledge about gaming- including console repair. One stop shop for retro to new releases. I can't wait until the pandemic is over and I can just browse the store for hours. Until then, I'll just keep using the web storefront- still great to browse all the titles and consoles virtually.
Phenomenal little hole in the wall game store. Reasonable prices mixed with friendly staff. Absolutely worth a visit by hobbyists and video game enjoyers.
I've been inside of this store probably 7 times now. 4 of those times was back to back, checking to see if my online order for a game came in when the guy told me that he would get it in 1 hour of being ordered. It took 4 days for him to go to his warehouse and get the game. As for the prices, everything is 50%-100% more than going market rates you'd find on eBay and local. For games themselves, you can likely find something you're looking for but you will be overpaying for it on average. For game Access
a horrible place to recommend getting anything repaired. It's been 4 months and still counting since I last dropped off two xbox controllers for repair. Made several calls in the past and always the same response: "You have to call the repair shop # on the receipt."/"we'll call you on Friday for an update." I have called and texted several times. No response or follow-up at all. Thieves when it comes to 'repairs'. I'm sure this store will give me a sad reply of: "Just keep calling the repair shop since we d
This store and the owner is amazing. Everything you could possibly imagine for your Video game needs is all under one roof. The owner takes pride in his products and makes sure everything is in great working order every time. For every Christmas I am so thankful that I can just go to this store for my Santa Gift it saves me so much stress and driving around. We are even excited to have a birthday party for my son as it is his dream to play video games with a bunch of friends. Thank you Video Game depot
Excellent store. Have been shopping here for the past month or two. Employee's helped me get my games from the warehouse in a reasonable time and were willing to exchange the damaged jewel cases at no extra cost.
I recently moved to Anchorage and was in need of a new "Have It All" game store. This place does not disappoint! They have EVERYTHING you could possibly want, from some of the oldest games available to the latest hits on Next Gen Consoles. I was even able to get a faulty system repaired. Customer service is fantastic and store hours are great. If you're in the area and have a passion for video games, make sure to stop in!
Super nice store, has almost everything you're looking for gaming wise, especially retro gaming. Great atmosphere. Great customer service, the young gentleman who runs the register is always so nice and helpful. I always look forward to shopping at Video Gmae Deopt. It's only video game place I recommend to anyone! My mom even loves the store, and she's an old school gamer
Video Game Depot is amazing! They have a huge selection of games and consoles, they do repairs (with warranties!), and they even have some puzzles and pop figures and such! I have lost count of the number of times I have stopped in to take a look around and the staff is always friendly and helpful. They even ship out of state if you need them too! I am so happy I found this place as I was getting tired of being jerked around and ripped off by other corporate chain stores. Highly recommend stopping by the ne
This store has always came through for me for any video game needs! If you have anything you need help with I'd say start here first before going anywhere else.
My experience here was pretty negative: A) I brought in 62 games, it took them 3 hours to go through the box. They kept helping others with trade ins before finishing mine. B) The person doing it was obviously new, struggling and the 2 other employees in the back did little to help him, occasionally criticizing him but not actually doing anything to make the process go faster. C) They claimed a stack of 10-15 ps3 games were ?damaged beyond repair? pointing to near invisible marks on the discs. They took
Was able to get what I needed for a retro game night I had the next day. The guy was nice, knowledgeable, but seemed to space off a lot when people were waiting to be helped. Prices seemed mostly fair. Didn't seem overpriced at all.
Awesome customer service. Awesome selection of old and new games. Great prices. Only complaint is that for older systems, it's hit or miss on them having hard to find games but that's to be expected being how game manufacturers quit making games for a system when a new system comes out. Other then that, I recommend them to everyone.
I've only had great experiences coming to Video Game Depot. Very nice staff they have a huge variety of games of all kinds. Along with giving an area to test games and making sure all discs are clean when they leave the store. Perfect for any retro or modern gamer.
This is a great store for anything and everything video game; especially retro gaming. Wonderful staff that's friendly and always happy to help and advise.
This place is amazing, and that's putting it lightly. The family that owns it is nothing but friendly and very helpful. I'm a loyal customer forever. Their prices are reasonable and you can get discounts with their points system. They'll even clean up some of your old systems and games for you. They have everything I need for my addiction. I definitely recommend them to anyone I know. Overall great place to buy your old games you grew up with. :)
I had never been to Video Game Depot before last week and didn't even know it existed. I was pointed here by someone who said I might be able to get N64 controllers here. Sure enough the selection was bountiful at Video Game Depot. I wanted to give my 2 daughters the complete retro experience with actual N64 controllers. It's really nice having places like this in town instead of ordering and waiting on 2 week shipment times from online sellers. I am glad that I could get the parts I need and be dad al
Still waiting for my Xbox, got the HDMI port replaced there almost a year ago and still haven't gotten it back. Excuse after excuse after excuse after excuse. I've paid $150 just to have them do the replacement and claim it. Like all I want for Christmas is my Xbox back.
Great customer service while checking out what they have in stock. They have a lot of rare games for many systems and are willing to hunt down games they don't have in stock. Staff is knowledgeable of what they have in stock as well. Very good at answering questions relating to gaming in general. As a collector I've not been disappointed shopping here!
Waste of time - Dropped off a PS3 controller to be repair on March 2nd, 2022. As of July 27th, 2022 I have yet to get it back. Stopped in several times asking. Initially said it would only take a month. A month went by - No phone call. Stopped in again to follow up - Said they would call and let me know. Still never received a phone call. Another month went back. Stopped by in person again - They said some shelves have fallen blocking access to my controller no timeline on when they could get access to my
This is an awesome family owned store. They're always super helpful and knowledgeable, and they have an extensive collection of games an consoles. They also do an excellent job at restoring GameCube controllers. I really like this place, I highly recommend them for your video gaming needs.
I don't go there often because it's on the other side of town, but I've never had a bad experience with them. They're always friendly and do whatever they can to get me what I want. Much better experience than Gamestop.
The owners of this establishment are awesome. Not only have they given me great deals. But when I was in a time of need after surgery they were more then mere buisness men. They will always have a strong recommendation from me as well as my continued buisness. I can't even tell you their names but what a great couple of guys with an awesome establishment. Don't let their clutter throw you off. After all they wouldn't be game geeks without clutter. Thanks for your superb customer service Game depot
My wife and I just returned from our second visit and we couldn't be happier. It's very convenient to walk in and instantly have every title readily available or in the next day's mail whether we are looking for something mass produced or quite collectible. The staff are very knowledgable, friendly and quite helpful. They go out of their way to assist but know when to let you browse or mull it over as well. We not only got a great deal but membership is available for a discount and there are options to try
Their variety is incredible! They have just about every console you could think of and more! The store is nicely organized and easy to browse, and the employees are great and super informative. Best video game store in town!
Switch repair took longer than anticipated but they always provided an update when prompted. Always friendly and professional!
Seems like a great shop, and the crew is nice enough, but I'd advise against bringing consoles for repair. They've had my ps4 for 3 months, since early September. I've called once every 2 weeks or so, checking on progress, and nothing further than "My brother brought it home to work on". Again, I don't think it's a bad shop, but maybe a little more care and communication with people whose $400 consoles you currently possess.
Most of the items in the store are a little bit higher priced which is to be expected considering they are in Alaska. However don't try to show Mike that something is priced at double what it should be because he gets very angry and claims he has to pay for rent, employees, and make a living. Again not my fault. Most of the items in the store are way overpriced and easily available somewhere else. The worst part of it is when you try to sell him something he always tries to claim that it's not worth very m
They are always friendly. They are great with my kids. They are always willing to answer any questions I may have about games or video game systems. If they don't have it they are great at ordering it. If the kids break one of their game systems they are great for repairing it or offer a different solution to replacing it. Thanks Video Game Depot.
The owner is a little bit of an ass, but other than that they have the best selection of consoles, including retro systems such as the PS One and the original Xbox. I was able to find a memory card for my PS2 there. I had called all over town but Video Game Depot was the only place that had the card. So, other than the owner (Mike), it's a great shop
They have trained staff ready to help you with anything you need came with collectable limited run video games from Japan and sold them for the price i had in mind. Was referred by Ian's video gaming paradise. No other place in Anchorage could help us out the way that gaming depot helped us out. Very good family business ?? ??
First time mid-atlantic east coast customer: I ordered a fairly rare game for a very reasonable price Tuesday evening and received it on Saturday...from their store in Alaska. Wow. Just wow. It arrived exactly as described with all the original inserts, and packed extremely well. 100% would order from them again.
Love the guy that runs it. He's always so helpful and friendly. If he isn't busy, he will have no problem talking to you about up coming new games you might like, and suggesting games he already has if you want to try something out. I always go to him first when I want something or having problems with a console.
The service is amazing!!!! The owners do everything they can to make sure you get the products you need in both a timely manner and convenient price. It's a very enjoyable experience with plenty of laughter and mutual love of many types of games and game systems throughout the generations!
They have a pretty good selection of used video games for lots of consoles, they also have a selection of accessories and some new titles as well. The only drawbacks are there is a ten minute selection time due to the mask disease and there prices for used games are less than new but there might be cheaper sales elsewhere if you're on a low budget and patient C: good store though C:
Every time I go here, I get top notch customer service and always able to get what I am looking for. When what I want isn't available in store, I can have it arrive in a timely manner! I highly recommend Video Game Depot for any and all gaming needs!
Videogame Depot has a great selection of retro and used games. They do console repairs and can order games for you. They're usually hosting events and run sales often. They're definitely worth checking out!
My WII Fit Balance board quit working. I called all over town no body had one. Finally someone at another store recommended I call Video Game Depot. I had never heard of the Video Game Depot, but I called. They had what I was looking for so I rushed over. Got the balance board I needed and an update version of WII FIT > FOR UNDER $20. Mike, the store owner and his son Mike Jr. were super friendly and helpful. I was amazed by the huge selection of games and game systems they have available. I will recommend
Video Game Depot is the best place to get your retro on! The place is a great trip down memory lane, and Mike is good people. If you need a system repaired I recommend hitting these guys up.
I LOVE Video Game Depot, in the Spenard Pawn shop! In fact, I do believe I have been going there for at least 8 years now. Mike (the owner and operator) has repeatedly helped me over the years. From PS3 and video game repairs and exchanges to helpful advice and a wide selection of systems and games. I'll admit, he has schooled once or twice and as a non-gamer mom with boys it has been much appreciated! Over all, Mike works hard to keep customers satisfied and that is why I don't go anywhere else. :)
Came into the store for the first time the other day. Was very impressed! Bought a few NES carts and ordered one also. My wife and I just loved this store. Super friendly staff. We will be back.
I've had many questions and Michael and his father have answered my questions and been patient if I'm slow to understand. They also are great working with one of my guys that live in the group home I run. Never had an issue where my guy felt cheated EVER! They always make sure my guy understands what he is purchasing. My nephew also goes there to have his harddrive for his Xbox 360 updated or looked at if he has a problem.
They always got the best vintage and up to date games. The environment is friendly and the employees very informative. Best game shop hands down.
This place is nice, has everything you can want! They easily repair scratched up disks and old broken gaming systems, as well as sell retro systems from an age long past. If you've still got old systems lying about, they have games for it here. Feels like reliving childhood. Will come again!
A great place to buy and sell all of your favorite classics with the best prices and an unparalleled collection of games, consoles, and accessories from the last 40 years. Mike the owner/operator runs a one man show, he is extremely knowledgeable and will always take care of his return customers. Since finding out about Video Game Depot, I have been a frequent customer and plan to be for years to come. Video Game Depot is bar none, the best store of its kind in Anchorage, one visit and you will never go to
Had a Nintendo 3ds with a broken A button dropped off late March. I was told its finished waiting to be brought out of the warehouse since April and don't get confirmed the parts it needed were ordered on May 9th and its finally to be expected to be repaired by May 13th Its May 18th now and there's still no word. I got it as a gift years ago so I can get old 64 titles I grew up with avaliable on it, which is now on a deadline to get as Nintendo is starting to phase out payment options to retire the old sys
My favorite video game store in Alaska, I've been going there for over a decade! If you're searching for a hard to find classic game, these guys got what you're looking for. Great deals and rewards on new games too!
Expert level of service, although they have great personalities. A very large array of video games too choose from as well ranging from the Atari too modern day consoles. In all it's a great store with great people running it.
Very friendly staff, and a great selection of games. If they don't have what you're looking for, they're very helpful in helping you find what you need. I always like to shop small business, and these guys make that an easy option.
These guys are amazing and set a whole new bar as to what I would expect from a game seller! Not only did they have the game I wanted (on multiple occasions) they even had the console (being as mine broke.) Not to mention that they bought the old one as scrap! Overall these are the guys who'll get all my game business!
I truly have never seen such a variety of video games in one place. Everything from the Atari 2600 to the Xbox One is here and at really good prices. I told the gentleman running the store exactly what sort of game I was looking for and he helped me to find exactly what I wanted. This is a must visit store for anyone who enjoys video games!
Great local store. Prices are cheaper than going online for a lot of the games I am looking for and I don't have to pay for shipping. I would recommend you come here for any gaming needs you have.
This place is awesome! As they were transitioning into their new location I had called to see where they moved to. The guy on the phone directed me to their store from the old location. I drove up and saw they were still closed but proceeded to go ring the doorbell because obviously they were there. When the guy opened the door, I saw they were still unpacking but he told me I could still come in and look, which was AWESOME! I was in heaven there. I didn't buy anything that day but when I come back I plan t
I had been looking for a Nintendo Switch after not pre-ordering one for weeks. After looking at other retailers in my area in California I just couldn't find one (no surprise). I called Mike and not only did he find one for me but he shipped it out and it got to my place in less than a week! I've known Mike for years and he's never let me down and always gives me a deal whether it's selling me new or old stuff or if he's buying stuff from me. Great selection and great service. I'm just sad I don't get
I have been going to this place after a friend referred to me of it's existence around 3 months ago. After I had initially went to the place broke, I was awestruck at just how much was there (They were still getting the shop ready, and inventory stocked) They had things like special editions of modern titles for PS4 and Xbone, to niche wants like Super Famicom systems and games, and even a Sega Dreamcast with several copies of Shenmue. They have a floor to play games at (just ask), and they even got the a
Awesome family run game store. Better than any big name chains
I really like video game stop, I was constantly going to thrift stores in search of nintendo and xbox games and accessories. I had no idea I could get vintage out gaming needs here! Awesome prices and assortments, super friendly guy and knowledgable. Plus safe and personable service.
I love Video Game Depot. I have an old Nintendo 64 and PS2. I don't want to upgrade, because I enjoy the nastalgia of the old systems. I can always find the game I am looking for at VGD. And if they don't have it, they call me when they get it in. The prices are comperable to buying online, and I don't have to pay for shipping! It is a great shop!
Beyond perplexed. Worst experience with any business of any sort. I'd rather spend an afternoon at the DMV than deal with this outfit again. I dropped off an Xbox for repairs at the end of November 2020. I was in the process of moving out of state. I was told it would be a two week fix and, should I be gone, shipping it would not be a problem. I followed up a month later, no update. I was told I would receive a call the next day. No call came. I followed up another month (or so) later. Same thing. I was to
Best video game store in the state hands down numbah 1
Wow. Take note, Ian's, THIS is how you do local video game shops. Video Game Depot is a fantastic addition to the Spenard community, adding another unique store to a unique district. VGD has everything, from a power glove to the old tapedeck requiring consoles from the very beginning. The staff is passionate, perhaps a bit too passionate, but they recognize repeat customers and are excited to help / talk about what is clearly their MO. This is a great spot, a hidden gem, and it comes highly recommended.
Love this store! I find the best prices in town and I've had many orders through them and it's been so fantastic. The customer service is top notch too.
Fun worker who focused on what I wanted.
I just left this place. I was really happy with it. Both the guys in there where helpful And they have everything "from pre Atari to whatever comes out next" ( I quote because this is exactly what the guy behind the counter said and it is vary much true). Yeah it's in a pawn shop but most of the store is packed with video games and consoles. There prices where decent and I'm definitely coming back.
I love this place! My only complaint is that the games don't have price stickers on them. I have to take every game to the front counter to ask how much it is. That is a huge pain in the ass. It sucks when I find a game I like only to find out that it is too expensive. It would be a lot more convienent to be able to know what the price is BEFORE I go to the front counter. I don't like to have to wait for the guy to look up every game to find the price. The kid working behind the counter said that they desig
Great if you are just looking for any older video game- but if you are looking for something specific, good luck. The website doesn't actually show what they have.
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
Absolutely, retro games in arcades remain a thrilling draw in 2025! Classics like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Street Fighter II offer simple yet addictive gameplay, blending nostalgia with timeless challenge. Modern arcade cabinets often feature crisp displays and restored controls, enhancing the experience. These games thrive on quick reflexes and strategy, with vibrant pixel art and iconic soundtracks that spark joy. Arcades host tournaments and leaderboards, fostering a lively community. While modern games dominate, retro titles provide a unique, accessible thrill that keeps arcades buzzing.
