Customer Reviews

Great bar, great staff, great video games! VERSUS is an amazing place for retro to modern gamers! The bar has consoles like PlayStation, Switch, and more. The three other rooms have arcade-style games from Skeeball to pinball to Time Crisis! They have all kinds of events like Super Smash Bros tournaments and more. $5 cover charge for entry but the games are free. The staff are super friendly and always down to have a quick match on Tekken while your food is getting ready! The mixed drinks are very creati

Only have good things to say about Versus! Very reasonable/cheap cover charge to play unlimited games. Fun, laidback vibes; love all the decor and fun glasses. We personally love some of the slightly dysfunctional games. We also greatly appreciate Richard and Jonathan for letting us come in early to take some engagement photos in the space. They were so eager to help, accommodating, and supportive; we tried to pay them at the end and they wouldn't even let us but ended up acquiescing and dropping our money

It's a fun place with serviceable food. The staff are really nice. The arcade itself is fun although the number of games is fewer than Roxy's and a good number of them were malfunctioning or broken. I think I just came at a bad time between maintenance visits. The free play is great, something that Roxy's doesn't have.

Wasnt sure at first how I was gonna feel about this place, especially use to going to the one in Providence RI in comparison. 1) food is excellent, i fell in love with their tots, never get to have some in restaurants and just really enjoyed how it was made and quantity for price ($5). 2) they actually had modern games, was so hyperfixated on the Smash and Tekken game (looked like PS5) although they didnt have alot in comparison to the one in Prov and it was a slightly smaller/narrower area 3) staff and

So fun! Went on a Friday night and had one hour access of free plays! Food and drinks were sooooo good!

I would give Versus 10 stars if I could. I decided last minute to celebrate my 23rd birthday here last night, and Versus didn't fail in exceeding my expectations. The staff were incredibly nice and hospitable to both me and my guests. I had a fantastic time; it honestly was one of the most memorable birthdays I've had in a while. I highly recommend Versus to any gamer looking for a chill and laid-back place to hang out, meet new people and play video games. I'm already looking forward to celebrating my 24th

Can't ask for a better arcade in Boston. Awesome service, each day has something going on. Should try the birdbath and nuka cola. Not to forget the chocolate drink with coconut rum. Best place to hangout with your friends.

Versus hosted my fianc??s birthday party and they were amazing. Johnny was most gracious and hospitable. The food was delicious and hot! They provided a cake that everyone (even non cake lovers) raved about. From start to finish, they made planning easy and everything was exactly as promised. The games were fun and the crowd made it even better. We will definitely come back for a fun night out. I absolutely recommend going. Hidden gem. Best choice to host and to hang out. Thank you guys again!

Great spot to decompress with coworkers after work, chill with friends at night, or meet new people over games. The inside is unique and nostalgic. There are arcades on either side, with a bar in the middle, but you can also play games on the screens at the bar, which I found more fun. I love that the workers there join in on the fun. All of the workers are chill, and the head bartender in particular is super friendly and attentive. Food offerings include typical bar food. Nothing mind blowing, but food is

had so much fun at this place! the food and drinks were really good. the place overall wasn't that clean but i get it since it was a crazy busy night for them. definitely one of my favorite spots downtown!

I organized a work party here, and wow they took such good care of us!! Really impressed by the food options too (recommend the wings!). The staff was exceptional and really went above and beyond. Fun drinks too! Good selection of 80/90 arcade games as well

Love this place! It has everything a nerd like me could want. Pinball machines, skeeball, and Mario Kart!! Plus fun game themed drinks?!? Yes please. We were only in town for 5 days and went twice. If you're looking for a fun night, this is the place to go!

The games were fun! Not a huge place so it gets crowded and the selection isn't huge, but it's fun for what it has. And I loved the drinks. Food was okay, it was crowded when we went so the kitchen was in over its head a little bit. Sent out buffalo wings instead of bbq, and the corrected wings had a huge hair in the ranch. Maybe eat beforehand and go just for the bar and the games.

Versus in Downtown Crossing is a cozy arcade bar that offers a unique blend of classic arcade games, craft cocktails, and a lively atmosphere. With its retro-inspired decor and a good selection of arcades, table and console games, Versus provides an entertaining and nostalgic experience for guests of all ages, including children. I fell in love with the Magmarita cocktail that has a spicy touch (recommended 100%). So, you can enjoy delicious drinks, enjoy some food (I didn't tried the food) while compete in

Brilliant fun playing on the pinball machines! Great concept with the $5 entry and free play, however is a victim of its own success and they allow far too many people in to actually play anything often. Drinks are nice and reasonably priced compared to everywhere around. We didn't have food - it smelled nice, but didn't look great

Had a work event here with about 30 people and it was great. The food and drinks were good. The staff was very attentive. The person I coordinated the event with communicated very well and did an excellent job getting everything set up with minimal effort on our part. Highly recommend.

Came here during free play friday and had an amazing time. The drinks were super tasty and had a fun theme to it. I really enjoying the games that were available and had a wide range or games from pinball to arcade games to console games as well. 100% recommend and would def come back!

AwesomeSauce time the kids really enjoyed themselves

So many games (pinball/old school video arcade games/skee ball/classic movies/console games) to continuously play for $5 cover. Super fun and inviting atmosphere with best DJ. Bar/Restaurant is the perfect location to just chill out or go crazy! We were there on Sunday night.

I spent my 35th birthday there lastnight with friends it was awesome such a great environment absolute awesome staff and the food is 5 stars. Anthony from versus is the best he is the mvp. I will be going back!

More of a dive bar than as advertised as an arcade bar. Had to pay 5 dollars for unlimited games but where unable to play such games. More focused on pushing out drinks than customer service. When we had a issue playing a console game manager and others got aggravated! I have a arcade in my hometown and customer service is way better. At this point the games should just be taken away if you get aggravated that the patrons want to play or God forbid have a issue trying to play. Also bartender took our drink

While the price is obviously unbeatable ($5 at the door to play whatever you want), everything else was just meh. Several of the games were broken so there were only a few options (def a lot fewer than Roxy's). Food was abysmal. Looked like the fries were microwaved and had some cheap cheese dumped on top of it. Drinks were watered down and overpriced.

Had a great time ! ,$5 cover charge to have free play on everything was amazing. Id recommend the birdos bath water (hilarious drink names and very generous portions) id recommend grabbing a seat at the bar and playing mario party or kart with your friends and turn to enemies as u get more drunk ?????? great vibes all in all one of the highlights of my trip to Boston

Was super nice, had a nice selection of retro games. For 21 under, the selection is not as big as advertised however.

Had an great time here celebrating my birthday with a group of friends! From the original table booking process with Molly to the amazing service from the manager and bartenders, it was a seamless and amazing experience. The food was great! The atmosphere was amazing! Everyone had such a good time. Will definitely be going back!!

Family and I were in Boston on vacation (from CT) and I snuck away to check this out. This barcode is the perfect balance of old school arcade nostalgia, modern co-op platform gaming (at the bar) and popping social scene with delicious food and drinks (I don't say that easily). Mike the owner is highly personable and attends to the whole crowd ensuring their enjoying themselves; he's backed by a great team as well. The patrons were a mix of families with kids by the classic arcades and a range of ages from

Great service! Dro, Johnny, Mikey, Paula, Kelley, and Dan were fantastic! Highly recommend for the under 21 crowd from 5-7. $5 unlimited play

Nice bar staff. Many old time games from the 80s and 90s. Asteroids, centipede, donkey kong. A few pinball machine. Clean restrooms. Decent prices. The Jr burger was good but would have preferred a better burer roll as the top is doughie. The Zelda fries appetizer was yummy. Go early as it got very crowded. Not many tables to sit and eat and about a dozen or so bar sears.

fun place but i wish there was more games

Came here for my husbands birthday and had so much fun! It is amazing find the arcade has all sorts of games ranging from skeeball all the way to Mario Kart. The food was so delicious. I got the cheese steak. They also have a great beer and drink selection, which makes playing video games even better! Come in with friends for a fun Weekend or weekday afternoon, you won't regret it!

Great place with friends! A smaller bar but it's got a great selection of arcades, and just $5 for unlimited play is a great deal. The best part are the TVs right at the bar where people can play mariokart, smash bros, tekken, etc. right at the bar with friends or play with strangers. A really fun environment and the workers are great

$5 for unlimited arcade play, are you kidding me? This place is nerd heaven. Also helpful that it stays open late every day in Boston's otherwise dull nightlife. A great place to hang out with friends and grab a bite or drink. 10/10 would come back and recommend.

This is a great addition to Downtown Crossing! What's better than sitting at the bar and being able to play Mario Cart with friends! Or make new friends...which is difficult in this city but Versus helps break down that anti-communication wall. Great selection of local craft beer on draft and bottles/cans. Get there early to get free entry and games. Check the website for times.

I was helped by Dro and Jonathan. Cannot recommend highly enough for an event. While you can't really rent out a private room, if you're looking for a more lively party atmosphere, this place is great for gatherings of 10-15 people. I held an early Halloween party here, and it went great. Staff were all incredible, very accommodating and kind. They were always on top of what we needed, and the atmosphere and entertainment were top notch. My only issue would probably be that near the end of the night, there

This place was on my list of places to check out during my first visit to Boston, and I wasn't disappointed. The atmosphere is fun and lively, the games are in good condition and the drink prices are reasonable. It gets busy quickly though, so be prepared to have to wait for the machine you want.

5 dollar unlimited plays. And 5 different kinds of pinball. Yes please! The skeeball wasn't great and couldn't get the controller to work on one of the xboxs. But ??????? what are you going to do. We had some drinks and that's about it. But I really enjoyed the pinball! Jurassic Park was probably one of my favorites.

Fun arcade themed bar, with old and modern pin ball machines to video arcade games to modern games that can be played at the bar on big screens. They even have shuffleboard, skee ball, and air hockey. Food and drinks are decent, including the Impossible Burger. Looking forward to coming back.

I enjoyed my drinks, and the food was good. But it's over priced and over crowded. I know I went on a Saturday night but there was nowhere to sit. I had to sit where other people already had their stuff. Paid 5$ to play games but there were none available, and I was here for at least an hour. It's a cute spot, but I would?ve had just as much fun at Chuck E. Cheese. Sorry.

Super cool vibe. We went on a Saturday and it was busy but the bar staff kept up with the pace and we had a good time.

The best bang for your buck for any video game bar in Boston. $5 gives you access to all the games, with their being a wide selection of all the classic arcade cabinets, pinball, racing, skeeball and more. Great creative cocktails (a bit expensive, but taste great) and solid bar food, including an Impossible burger!

This place is so fun! A few of the games had issues. Awesome selection of pinball. The food was standard, but delicious. I got the impossible burger. So happy they have Crazy Taxi! Overall a good time. The bathrooms need more love.

Good prices and great place to go after work on a weekday when it's quiet, on a weekend they have too few working games for how many people come. A lot of missing pieces or broken games/machines and nothing felt clean? great idea but poor execution.

I've been there 3 nights in a row for the pinball & I will return not just for pinball but also for the wonderful staff, everyone is nicer than the last. Got a high score on the Avenger machine btw?

My boyfriend and I went to Versus on the later end of the night. When we got there, I was surprised that it was $5/pp for unlimited play. People at the bar were playing FIFA and Mario party, while others played board games in the booths/tables. In the other areas, there were a bunch of arcade games to choose from. I took off one star because there were a few games that were out of order, and then depending on how crowded it is, you may need to wait for certain games. All in all, would recommend!

Had a great experience! Can get crowded even on weekdays, so if you want it empty go during the day not at night. The vibes are great, and you can play as many games as you like for only $5. They have ski ball, pac man, pin ball machines, and a shuffle board table. Didn't get to try the food but the pizza looked good! Good date night!

Vibes were 10/10. $5 cover charge for unlimited free games is a hit. Only had the milkshake which wasn't amazing but the other food look really good. Would recommend if you're looking for a chill spot to hangout with ?? playlist.

Definitely had a blast I turned up good games classic energy epic and everyone having amazing time

Has an arcade feel with a couple 80s pinball and arcade games. Haven't tried the food as of yet. Calm laid back atmosphere.

We had a birthday party here and it was great! The manager was really nice and even sent us a round of shots at the next bar we went to after. The group had a lot of fun and I would definitely recommend it for events.

Had a blast here! Came here with three other friends and it was $5 USD for all you can play. Good selection of games and drinks. When we came here, it was also trivia night so the night went by as a blur. Highly recommend!

Awesome vibes, it wasn't the usual tough guy vibes you get from Boston bars. Appeals to gamers & a more chill laid back crowd Very affordable . Had the hot honey chicken sandwich which was good. The bartenders were very nice. Decent game selection. Forgot to play Connect 4 Hoops which I love. Will be back ??

Versus is great!! if I recall correctly, once you pay the cover all the games are free ? including the PS4/switch games above the bar! Games above the bar is such a good idea btw; i got to beat a bunch of strangers as hugh neutron in modded smash so i cannot complain

Drinks are decently priced, and after your cover charge all the games are free which is a very nice system. Food is delicious, and the owner Mike is one of the nicest guys you'll meet. Smash tournaments on Sundays is a nice low key way to have some fun. Pinball, retro cabinets, and the new consoles? What more could you ask for from an arcade bar??

We recently rented out this venue for a birthday party during the day on Saturday. The entire process and dealing with the staff was incredibly easy - I was able to coordinate everything over email with Jenna and they were very accommodating as to what I wanted. The place itself is awesome - three separate spaces laid out longways like a bowling alley with the bar in the middle. All of the games were working just fine while we were there and all of our guests had a great time. We had the pizza, mac and chee

A super fun bar downtown! I was impressed with the quick service even when it got very busy throughout the night. I love the barcades popping up. Friendly staff and patrons, would definitely recommend

Brought my daughter here for an early dinner and to play the arcade games. She had the best time. I could totally see how it is a great place for an over 21 crowd after 7pm.

Stumbled upon the place by accident but it's a really enjoyable place. For $5 you have unlimited plays in the retro arcade area, the modern arcade area, board games, multiplayer console games, etc. They also have a bar, and serve snacks/food for people as well. Each night they have game tournaments for people that want to join. Staff was super friendly as well. Would highly recommend checking it out

From what I'm hearing its a good place I'm a 13 year old gamer and dose it have a age requirements

Such a great date night spot. $5 to get in.. all you can play games, plus play Nintendo switch at the bar. Stuffed pretzel and pizza was really good too.

The arcade machines were fun! Hard to pass up free play, even if I am AWFUL at pinball and arcade games. It is a weird, nightclub vibe that doesn't go with the pop art decorations. Loud, club music, so a surprise if you aren't expecting it. But the food and drink were bad. Not make-you-sick bad, but it was below mediocre. Frozen, unsalted crinkle-cut fries. Extremely dry burgers with no seasoning, and iceberg lettuce chunks. The cocktails were also poorly designed. I do not have a high alcohol tolerance, Mi

Definitely going again. I'm in love ?? with this place so much brought me back to my preteen to adulthood stage. My favorite games, especially Ms. Pacman 1st game I'd played and many others was ideal ?? game spot Definitely will return, my son knew I was in a bit of a funk. He brought me here it was awesome sauce I'd had a drink called ?? ?? bird ?? bath ?? it had a DragonBall fizzball which I knew of bath fizzballs, but never fizzballs for drinks the staff was awesome when he brought it over in a mini ?? ?

Ryan is the best bartender EVER!! We always have a BLAST at Versus. The Waifu material is my fav. Great atmosphere, decent bar food. But the vibes are IMMACULATE.

For $5 how Could you go wrong? Short on beer choices. Fun games. Nice staff.

The concept is great but the execution needs work. Several of the arcades have sticky buttons or aren't fully working properly. The 5$ cover charge is good but I'd rather pay $10 and see them invest in upgrading/refurbishing the games.

A fun place, we didn't eat and just played games for half hour. But food smelled good! Great selection of retro games

Outstanding bar. Genuinely some of the most fun I've ever had at a bar in my life. The arcade games are super affordable, managers/staff are so fun, and there's always someone wanting to play a video game with you. 10/10, this will be a new spot I bring lots of friends.

Nice date night at VERSUS it's dope. we both love all the games there. The best arcade.

Highlight of Boston for the 11 and 13yo set (though note that under-21s can only go before 7pm). Food was fine; there's an impossible burger on the menu for veggies.

Literally more than half of the games are broken in some way. 2 out of 3 skeeball lanes are broken, burger time is broken, donkey kongs stick is fubar, time crisis 3 tucked in the corners guns dont register half the time, dig dugs pump button on the right doesnt work, Simpsons arcade is off, blitz is off. Only thing that looks oike its working okay are the pinball machines and smash bros on the bar tv. But if i wanted to play smash i can do that at home. I dunno man. Cool idea, but fix your stuff. Would not

Very fun arcade bar that is just $5 for unlimited play! A perfect cheap date night to try your hand at pinball, and classics like pacman and skee ball. Went on a Sunday night and it was busy but not so busy that we couldn't play every game we wanted by nights end. Fun atmosphere with a dj playing low key techno beats while the bar hosted 4 TVs for a super smash bros tourney. Didn't get any food so can't comment but it looked decent, not there is not a ton of table space here though. Had some good beers on

Amazing service and great drinks. One of my favorite bars in the Boston area.

Came for a bachelor's party. I had a blast. Really fun environment. Food was good. Drinks were great. Really friendly staff. There isn't a huge amount of games to play but still a great time. Loved the Nintendo Switches at the bar too. Really fun time!

This place is sick. We vacationed in Boston from NYC and found this gem. It's definitely the best arcade I've ever been to. Staff was extremely friendly. Food was excellent. The overall atmosphere was fire. Good music and super fun throwback games. There was a Super Smash Bros tournament going on and it was lively. 10/10, recommend.

$5 entry for unlimited games and then you can separately order food and drinks at the bar. We didn't get any food ourselves because we'd just eaten and that wasn't a problem. They have pinball machines, some classics like Mario Bros and Asteroids, a shuffle board table, skeeball, basketball connect 4, a handful of consoles you can play at the bar and a few others. Fun time, will go again with friends for beers and games.

Every time we come to Boston, we make a point to come here. Amazing. $5 cover charge then free games.

They got connect 4 hoops. Great game but someone broke it. Pretty small and lack of variety. #fromnyc

Staff was nice, drinks were decent, but a little disappointed in the selection of games and the amount of games that were broken/not working..

Very cool concept!! We paid $5 each to play unlimited games which is a great price. Definitely a busy place though so I wish they had some more games. The bar was stocked but very busy so it took a bit to get a drink. Overall, cool place to visit for a fun night out!

We had our rehearsal dinner at VERSUS and had a spectacular time. Dro was fantastic and responsive in coordinating our event ? he even went above-and-beyond by getting approval for a few toddlers to stay past 7pm. The rental pricing was very reasonable, the food was excellent, and the service on the day was impeccable: our guests are still raving about the venue!

Great concept! Went on a Friday evening and it was $5 per person for unlimited play. I didn't try any of the food, but the wings smell great! Loved the selection of pinball and vintage arcade games (Area 51, Burger Time, Galaga).

We were visiting for a long weekend and were just walking around stopping in different bars grabbing drinks. They wanted a $5 cover charge at 6pm on a random midweek July day and I couldn't believe it. We decided to go somewhere else. I'm 45 and haven't paid a cover charge since my clubbing days in my early 30?s!

Great location but beer is sour.... The taps need major cleaning. Even their bar tender agrees that the beer tastes sour. Anything in a can is great but no tap. It's the tap lines cause even with a new keg my beer was sour :(

Fun ?rcade Bar near Park Street T. I ordered the Birdo Bath drink. It's like a bath bomb in your mouth.

It was kind of underwhelming. Not many arcade games but enough for the crowd. The one thing that bothered me was everything here is sticky. I don't think I touched a single thing that wasn't sticky here. You get stuck to the floor playing games even. It really wasn't busy enough for the games to not be cleaned properly from the amount of alcohol here. The sofa here is also very grimy. Bathrooms however are clean!

Stumbled upon this place and it was fantastic! Atmosphere was great with many arcade and video games. There was not much of a board game selection, but there were some good ones. Bartenders were so nice! We enjoyed our time playing arcade and board games here.

It's good. Entire floor, arcade games on one side, skee ball and others on the other. Friendly crowd, some board games, good drinks and friendly staff. I'm glad I discovered this place.

It's a fun little bar with good food. Some of the games are a little broken but they were free to play after the cover charge. Overall, a good place to grab a drink and vibe with your friends.

This place is awesome. I brought my boys to Boston for a bachelor party and we made sure to come here twice. $5 unlimited game play, chill vibes, and awesome staff. The GM Mike (I think, I was a little too tipsy to remember) was awesome and made sure our bachelors had fun. DEFINITELY go to VERSUS if you can!

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are pinball tables still good in this modern age?

Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds. Though less common than video games, pinball’s tactile charm and community vibe make it a standout arcade experience in 2025.

Are retro games in arcades still good in this modern age?

Absolutely, retro games in arcades remain a thrilling draw in 2025! Classics like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Street Fighter II offer simple yet addictive gameplay, blending nostalgia with timeless challenge. Modern arcade cabinets often feature crisp displays and restored controls, enhancing the experience. These games thrive on quick reflexes and strategy, with vibrant pixel art and iconic soundtracks that spark joy. Arcades host tournaments and leaderboards, fostering a lively community. While modern games dominate, retro titles provide a unique, accessible thrill that keeps arcades buzzing.
