Customer Reviews

I didn't have any food.... But the place was cool, the bartender was very attentive and nice. The atmosphere was great and the games were classic, at classic arcade prices. If you like classic arcade and pinball. It's a no-brainer. Had an amazing time that, by today's standards, was crazy cheap. Well if you are well versed in old arcade games. They even have an old Paper Boy cabinet, which I haven't seen in at least 35 years.

We didn't have any pizza but the service was excellent and we were surprised and excited to see every game we played from the 80?s and 90?s. Skee ball was hard to get a spot but if you're patient just wait. The tokens last forever! Bathrooms were clean. We had a blast! We will definitely come back when it's warmer for the outdoor space.

Be sure to play Killer Queen! If you're with a group, don't miss the chance to jump on Killer Queen-it's a rare find and an absolute blast for team play. Up-Down MKE is everything an arcade should be. The machines were spotless, fully functional, and fairly priced. Even the N64 controllers were shockingly better than mine at home-smooth and responsive! Drinks and pizza hit the spot, and there's plenty of outdoor seating to chill between rounds (though indoor seating is mostly limited to the bar). They?v

Nice place to hang out and enjoy with kids. Numerous arcade games to choose from. I would love to try their outdoor patio on summer

Went for my birthday and got 40 free tokens. Mind you, each game costs like one token, so you can spend a fat minute there without breaking the bank. They even had an old Nintendo system you could play mario kart on. Pretty cool place with lots of game options.

super friendly staff and they take excellent care of their machines. i found two of my most favourite games that i haven't played in a few decades. i live in Chicago but will specifically be going back to to hang out here again

Visited Up-Down recently for a birthday. Fair selection of tap beers and ciders, seasonal cocktails, and canned beverages available. Option to order pizza and apps, and all the games you can things of, spanning generations. Great place to spend a rainy afternoon!

This place was so cool! The vibes, the atmosphere, the amount of retro games! I'm a gamer who was in heaven! We put $20 in and got 80 tokens, which we were sure wouldn't last long. How wrong we were! Each game only took one token, which gave us hours of fun! Plus, the bar staff were super nice, and the cocktails were tasty! My partner and I definitely said we have to visit again!

Didn't try the food but I'm sure it was good. No interaction with staff besides getting more beer, but I'm sure the service was great. The video games are absolutely amazing because everything is retro. All older games and even 80?s and 90?s movies playing on the TV sets. Very inexpensive and $20 in game play can have you there all day because every game is one quarter and one quarter is one token. Definitely going back. And well-kept as everything was clean and tidy. Outdoor bar area was very nice too with

Up-Down Milwaukee: Great for games, good for drinks ????? * Pizza: Just okay, not the star of the show. * Games: Pinball and arcade selection is fantastic! * Drinks: Enjoyable beer and bar atmosphere. * Overall: Highly recommended for a fun night out!

Place was awesome, had lots of cool arcade games like Punch Out , Kung Fu Master to name a few . Have a small pizzeria inside by the bar. Staff was very friendly.

Games and drinks. Board games. Big Connect four. Big jenga. Butt load of arcade games. Check out their vegetarian Mona Lisa pizza on weekends ??

Notable collection of vintage video games, pinball machines, and arcade games! Daily specials on game tokens. Good happy hour prices! Great fun!!

This place is awesome!!!! We honestly found this place via a Google search of things for my family to do while in town, and we totally lucked out that it happened to be a day where they were doing a family day, as normally it's a 21 and over place only, because it's a bar. They do family hours one Sunday a month, and we visited during the Brady Street festival so that's why they had a special family day. I'm so thankful they did because it was the perfect thing for my family that includes 2 teens and

Great place. It has all the retro video games plus giant jenga and connect 4. Very chill atmosphere with a good mix of people. The pizza was surprisingly good for a "bar pizza"

Had free water and played Mario kart 64 for free and played outdoor Jenga free it was a blast!

Super fun atmosphere. Was very nice to just sit and enjoy a lot of the old school arcade games and a few new ones I've never seen before. Skeball always a classic. Lots of pinball machines downstairs and upstairs. Most of the games are one token and we went on a Saturday night and they were 2 for 1 tokens. $10 lasted us about 2 hours or so between two people playing.

Awesome, unique way to spend the afternoon. We went on a Sunday and it wasn't too busy. There was a nice outdoor patio area as well. A large variety of arcade games, ranging from old to new. Many pinball machines to choose from as well. Even a few ?party? games were scattered about. The draft selection was extensive, and they had a few great specialty drinks and shots too. We tried the Purple Rain cocktail and it was very good. We got $20 dollars worth of tokens and it lasted three of us about two and a h

Love this place. We don't bar much but when we do. It's up down! Pizza is always massive and taste. Great selection of drinks and games to play. Kept clean and organized. And they do fun events. Wins all around. Only thing they could do better is subtitles on all things playing on the tvs.

This place is so cool! I'm glad we stopped in. The pizza was fantastic, huge slices. The beer selection is extensive and good. Service at the bar was speedy. The games were awesome, some times we had to wait a bit but never for very long. I convinced my 60+ year old mother and friend to go with on a Saturday night- even they had a blast! 10/10 do recommend

It was nice. I had a good time, but it was these 2 ladies in there. Talking us and holding us praying for us. They're doing the most but I had a good time but I couldn't really have a good time with them. Doing the most the 2 ladies that was there, but I had a good time and it was even cool but they was just doing too much.

So great idea and great bartender last night and the other staff was nice as well. They have a lot of great deals for happy hour through the week and have a lot of great games. Well last night we had 40 tokens to play with and well at least half of the games in there did not work right. At 1st we would go up and say something and they were nice and gave us tokens back but then we just got frustrated with every time we went up to play a game and there would be something from a button not working and joystick

This place was a blast. The environment was fun and full of nostalgia. The games were only 25 cents and we took advantage of double tokens before 9pm. There were tons of gaming options so we were both entertained for hours. There were a few tight corners once things filled up but overall I'd recommend as a fun way to spend some time.

Ah-maz-ing!! What a fun place! We walked from Saint Kate to check this place out on a Saturday afternoon. We bought $20 worth of tokens and at 2 for 1 deal they had going we spent 2-1/2 hours there and turned in half our coins when we were ready to go. Manny the bartender was so awesome. He was friendly and full of information. We will definitely be back!

I had an amazing time here! Drink, great service. Also I really enjoyed their video game selection! Definitely recommend stopping here.

We didn't eat there but spent a few hours playing games. They have something for everyone, even if you aren't huge on gaming. A good selection of old and new. We loved the giant Mario Cart screen. They have a full bar as well.

I absolutely love coming here. Whether it's with other people or by myself, it's very enjoyable. So many classic games and really cool pinball machines, and my favorite, skeeball. I spent $10 on tokens and played games pretty much nonstop for 1-1.5 hours.

A lot of games were down but its two floors of all types of games plus an outside patio and a large connect four game. This place definitely provides fun! A huge bar sits in the middle and the place has several token machines. I enjoyed myself!

My wife and I do love this place and we stop here a few times whenever we're in Milwaukee. You can't beat the price of pinball here, especially with some great drinks. The only knock I have is the crowd, in my opinion. It's a great business, I get why it's busy, but for the most part I find the people there to be inconsiderate. Drinks and empties left everywhere, coupled with folks who are spatially unaware you will be squeezing through folks everywhere you try to move. The staff seems used to it, but cons

Up/down Mke is one of the best hangouts in Milwaukee by far. Phil and Ronnie made sure I had the best experience possible. Great music and great vibes. A must if you're in the area. 10/10 on the music.l and games.

Went for a birthday party. Was upstairs. Bartender was on phone constantly and was hard to get a drink. Seemed like he wanted to be anywhere but there. Game selection is ok, but nothing remarkable. Sad that only one pinball machine was Stern insider connected. Would rather go to Garcade and get a drink from a nearby bar. Only strong point is location.

Cool place. Killer queen is free on Tuesdays and pizza is served here. When it gets late I think they close the kitchen but keep slices heated up.

This is a cool bar with decent drinks and fun machines My biggest issue with the place is the shape of some machines A lot of times ones we enjoy are out for months for repair, the CRTs sticks etc are not in great shape? etc. and that's a bit disappointing espicially if it eats your token It can get busy often but has been a fun hang out spot for retro arcade fun!

It's a gaming arcade for adults, seams very cool but there was nothing going on around 12pm, we just had a beer and left but it does look like it could be a good place to visit in the summer

If I had to pick one place in Milwaukee that I would consider my favorite place to hang out with friends or go on a cute and casual date, Up-Down would be it. The daily deals, pizza, games, atmosphere, and friendly staff keeps me coming back again and again!

Alright if you and your friends like retro games , the atmosphere was nice ...couldn't enjoy the outdoor area due to the screaming 20 year olds . At 1:45am they cut power to all the games . A better hangout spot is round one ..no drunken idiots

Such a fun experience!!! Delicious homemade pizza and toppings!!! Wonderful staff and service! Who knew I'd be playing PONG in bar lolling, such fun!!!

Monthly Sunday Family day. Pinball, skeeball, Mario kart, NBA jam etc tournaments. Two stocked bars, lots of taps. Pizza made in house. Ten cent tokens on Thursdays. Definitely check it out.

Love this arcade bar! Lots of different pin ball machines, basketball, skee ball, super mario kart, etc?some really neat old school games I haven't played in years. It's two levels and a bar on each level. Huge spot!

Place is amazing. All games 1 token, like it should be. Not all games were in the best shape but some of these machines have been around dealing with kids for 25 plus years. Pinball fans will be happy for sure. Full bar and innumerable beers on tap. Didn't eat but the pizza looked good. The TV's all playing classic cult and blockbuster movies from back in the day. Parking a bit nerve racking. Will go again.

So glad we could come and try the new Arcade bar we have been hearing about! Up down was everything we were expecting it to be. We really enjoyed the retro theme and the ample amount of games there are. The pizza was one of the tastiest I have ever had so it was amazing! The bar tenders are super nice and offered us samples when we were sure which beverage to try! They attended to us very well and frequently. I loved how the space was both indoors and outside. They had heaters outside which made it comfor

What a great date idea!! First date, meet ups with friends. Didn't check their N/A options but lots of beer on tap. Lots of selections on pinball!

An expansive barcade with options galore, room to spread out and wonderful outdoor areas to make the most of the warmer days. You will have no trouble finding space to have fun here. The games are well spread out and organized, they have all the necessities, like Tapper, and even four skee-ball lanes. Every barcade I go to I aim to set the hiscore on the Tapper machine, but at this location the high score was over a million. I still recorded a PB of 268,000, which I am ecstatic about. They have a Killer Qu

Games were awesome! Service was on point! We had a great time!

Great place good games and the drinks are good but mixed ones are expensive if you dont go on a deal day. Love their pizza its so big and a good deal. Please bring back/fix miss pacman

Had a great time at this place. Atmosphere is fun with a mix of younger age groups to middle age. Plenty of space to move around and enjoy yourself. Drinks are good, games are awesome and in excellent running conditions. I have not tried the pizza but I will definitely be back and next time I will. They offer weekly specials on game tokens, pizza slices and once a month offer family day so you can bring the kiddo?s to enjoy some fun games. Highly recommend this place for a fun day with friends, family or pe

Overall vibe was great, but the music was cranked WAY too loud. This is an arcade bar, not a club. Very hard to converse with my friends. Other than that I loved it.

Nice selection of beers on tap and cocktail selection. Saturday is 2 for 1 tokens until 9pm. We bought $20 worth and it lasted us both easily 2 hours. So many fun games to try out. Bar on both levels and there's outdoor games as well.

Love, love, love this place. I'm a big fan of video games. Most of them worked perfectly and the one or two that had issues excepting money was fixed the moment we mentioned it. We had a blast.

Such a fun place, the bar is 2 levels and the outside patio is roomy, the have private booths and games as well. The music kinda sucked but they have wrestling and horror movies playing on the monitors.

We didn't get food but loved the selection of drinks and our service was great!

I love visiting up down when I'm in Milwaukee and always look forward to stopping by for drinks and games. Up-down has a large selection of old school arcade games along with plenty of pinball options to choose from as well as a good drink menu with reasonable prices and a different daily special every day of the week. There is a second-floor patio which is very relaxing with TVs and outdoor games to keep you entertained along with a lower level patio that's also has outdoor games like giant connect four, J

Awesome barcade. Quarter games, reasonable drinks. Tough to beat.

This place is always great. Especially if you love pinball. Everything is 1 token and you can often get deals where it is 2 for 1. Daily specials here too. I only wish they had family friendly hours to bring my adult yet under 21 year old kid.

This place was fun! My family and I went there for the Sunday event they hold every month and it was awesome!!! The pinball machines were incredible and they had tons of classic games to play. Overall a fun place and is family friendly when the place is open for everyone!

Overall it is a cool place to hang out. When it's busy the bar tenders take awhile but usually pretty good at what they do. I give it 3 stars simply because a lot of the games seem to be maintained poorly and only half work or have broken pieces which ruins some of the experience. The games that do work make it a fun time! The atmosphere is one of a kind for adult arcade bars in the area and the pizza is a good price for how large the slices are and is AMAZING tasting.

Fantastic bar with a ton of games and other activities, such as outdoor shuffle board. Two stories of fun right on Brady Street. The only thing stopping me from giving five stars is the inexperienced bartenders (they need some help with their mixology). Over all great place that I would return to and recommend to my friends.

Went for family day. What a neat place! I loved the decor and Ioved that they had DDR. There's no parking lot so you'll have to look for street parking.

Definitely a fun place to spend time with friends. Not sure how much I would have liked the food without some booze already in me, but overall good.

A hyper place with lots of special drinks and tons of fun arcade games, and good ole fun Midwestern yard games and tasty pizza. it's a cool arcade bar with a fun loud atmosphere and a good balcony view of downtown milwaukee

If the pinballs were in better shape it would be a 5/5 but too many issues on pay to play for that. Staff was super friendly, atmosphere is great and pizza is solid

Fun! Great selection of classic arcade games and pinball machines. 25 cents a game. Get there early on Fridays and get 20 free tokens (First 100 customers).

Big fan of this place, been here 3 times now when i visit from the UK. Great music and choice of pinball machines. The jenga, connect 4 and SNES/GameCube are free to play which is good. Tokens are only 10c on a Thursday. It's even better in summer as the outdoor area is open with more games and a large screen. Pizza is decent, sometimes the skeeball takes a token and doesn't work but they come along and fix it when you let them know. Good place for some fun and drinks.

A retro arcade that serves alcohol. The atmosphere is geared toward the younger, hipster crowd. It was fun to try, but I'm too old for a place like this, haha!

Bartenders were really friendly. Game selection was pretty great. The outdoor patio is a nice touch. I enjoyed being able to easily get some fresh air. There's not a lot of parking but the building was small anyways so it doesn't really matter. The drinks were pretty reasonably priced too.

5/5! The staff all around was fantastic ? friendly, great service, and attentive. My friend and I went for pizza and drinks ? will totally come back! The pepperoni pizza was delicious (cheesy, just the perfect amount of juiciness, and perfectly cooked). Highly recommend visiting!

Pretty chilled spot on a Sunday. Most the games doesn't work. They took all my coins. The shots were good though and the pizza was good. I'll go again and recommend but they have to do better with the games!

Do you like arcade games? Do you like to drink beer? Do you like to have good delicious pizza? Well this is the place for you I freaking love this place. I've been here for going for 3 years and it never gets old. Great games great prices great deals each day. I just love this place to death That's all I got to say

If you like retro games, pro wrestling, or appreciate a low key atmosphere it's hard to go wrong with up down.

Okay place for games and pizza. Good beer selection. Nothing mind blowing but fun in it's own way. Outdoor patio and deck are nice and shaded. Up to date music. Old school stand up arcade machines as well as newer titles.

This place is pretty awesome. What's better than games and drinking (responsibly, of course)? The pizza is $6 a slice, which isn't bad and decent size - mine wasn't really fresh; it was in a rotating heated pizza warmer. It was okay, but I've had better. The drink I got was amazing. Can't go wrong with whiskey! Well, I got blueberry crown whiskey and lemonade. Pretty good. The bartender was a great guy and really patient with us 6 girls for my sister's birthday get-together, as everyone didn't know what the

The Paloma Tasted like BBQ Sauce. I had about 5 friends try it and they all hated it too. I dont know which mezcal they use but it was NOT good.

I grew up going to the arcade, in capital court mall. The safe could be a bit more friendly. The type of environment smiling should be a part of the requirements as staff. Bae and I had fun. I still have coins left.

What a great place to play your favorite video game or pinball machine. Definitely going back soon! , ?? The Barko's ??

God I love this place ?? Great beer selection, plenty of TVs, the outdoor first and second floor, and of course the cheap games

Awesome arcade, can't speak to the drinks as I didn't have any. The bartenders seemed helpful and attentive. Even though the place was crowded, there was plenty of space to get up and get a drink. Didn't eat either, but they do serve pizza by the slice. We mostly went for pinball, and Up-Down does not disappointed! All machines are set to one quarter (token) per play, and double tokens ok Saturday 12-9. This is probably our new pinball spot! Combine that with the awesome nostalgia, other arcade and "board

Stopped in to play their pinball machines and grab a drink. All the games are a quarter, that's great. Upstairs balcony is gorgeous and spacious. Lots of good beer and cider on tap at both upper and lower bar. Service was... fine. Bartenders were slow, unfriendly and distracted. Maybe it was an off night for them. Barback(?) was standing around looking at her phone and another employee was walking around eating pizza. None of the pinball machines are Stern connected so we couldn't log in. Oh well.

Atmosphere: fun, upbeat, fast paced. Step back into the days of sneaking out after chores to spend your lawn mowing $ on 25 cent games. Only switch the soda for craft beer. Even if you aren't into arcade games, there is giant Jenga, giant connect 4, big screen video games. Still not interested? Well, just enjoy the upbeat place with a drink. Everyone here is in a good mood - how could they not be? Cleanliness: restrooms were very clean, happy to say the games were fingerprint free on the glass and the butt

Great place for arcade games. 2 floors full of amazing games and a great Cool bar and lively crowd. Must try the pizza if y ou get hungry for a reasonable rate!!

All they have for food is all they need for food: pizza. They have classic and modern cabinets + enough pinball, skee ball, and hoops games to keep you entertained. Plays are $0.25/player for every game, but they have specials that lower the cost per play even further. Great for small and large parties alike

Love the Tuesday Tournaments here! And $1 off Local taps on Tues, definitely my place to go. Can't wait to get a high score. Super friendly staff all around! Great service.

This is a fun bar with a nice selection of games. I like the layout more than the Minneapolis location. More elbow room. I wish there was more people playing Killer Queen. That game is jam. The staff in Minneapolis did a good job getting people to play it. Id like to see that here. Like the view and the outsiding gaming. Will keep coming back.

Games everywhere! Stopped in for an evening beer with a friend. Staff was polite and attentive. They were playing movies on the TV which was a pleasant surprise! Great selection of beers and a decent amount of liquor as well. Very fun atmosphere.

If you're seriously into pinball and arcade games and also want a good environment to hang out with friends and drink this is the spot. Most nights every single machine is working great, but if you're looking for long playtime on games avoid busier nights like the weekends, as you should let others play games and enjoy themselves as well. Beer selection is phenomenally well balanced you can get great classics and they always are rotating taps so you can try something new. If you love cider this is definitel

We stopped by for a beer, great environment but a little too much going on for me for noise.

Was let in to play and then was approached and told we had to leave because it was a private party. The man at the door never stopped us nor was there any sign saying anything about it being private.

Awesome bar. Reasonable pricing on the plethora of beer options. Solid pizza. Lots of great arcade games, skiball, and console games inside and outside. A must visit if you're in MKE or passing through.

Cool place to chill and play games. Really depends on who's working, some give better service than others but overall cool staff. Pizza ?? is good, and games are fun if you want that old school arcade feel. Drinks can be stiff and get you right. Overall, good atmosphere. Just bring a friend, and you will have a nice time.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are pinball tables still good in this modern age?

Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds. Though less common than video games, pinball’s tactile charm and community vibe make it a standout arcade experience in 2025.

Are retro games in arcades still good in this modern age?

Absolutely, retro games in arcades remain a thrilling draw in 2025!
