Up-Down Minneapolis ? Games, Beer & Vibes ?????? Arcade + beer + pizza? Can't go wrong. Loved the vibe ? perfect spot to hang with friends and play some classic games. ?? The bar has a huge variety of beers, and the food was way better than I expected. The pizza hit the spot and everything came out quick. Honestly, exceeded expectations. Definitely a must if you're into arcade bars with chill energy and great drinks.

I went here for the first time the other day and it was a great experience from the environment to the pizza to the staff it was just wonderful the whole way around I would highly to just go into this arcade if you're in the uptown area

Wow, this place blew me away! I loved the gritty and energetic atmosphere. The beer selection is simply nuts, and the game selection is huge! The staff were great, and the pizza I saw people eating looked yummy! If you are spending the night in Minneapolis, stop by here for sure!

We visited on a Saturday evening when there are 2x for 1 tokens and played forever on $20. Lots of classic video games in great condition and many pinball games that were fun. The atmosphere was very relaxed. Many of the games have drink holders or a ledge which is handy. There were servers got around to take drink orders. We went outside and upstairs to visit those areas and it was much more quiet and relaxed. It was a great night and id recommended going here if you enjoy that classic arcade sc

Been here twice and can't wait to get back! The games are such classics and are an absolute blast. There's a cute outdoor seating area with the same upstairs! Never got around to trying the food but heard from others that it's great. Being open so late is even better for those who work late!

Great barcade. I try not to go on regular busy times because it can get a little wild. I've seen some security problems potentially but they have good staff that handles it and regular police presence. (Typically I try to avoid places that need police presence but this is a fun spot with great pizza and a lot of pinball machines)

It was fine but probably won't make it a regular spot. ID check at the door, lots of drinks on tap, tons of games, pizza, and a donut vending machine. Parking was a nightmare- we had to park several blocks away and didn't feel super safe walking to the door. I don't think I'd want to come after dark. It was super crowded during an early weekend evening which made it less enjoyable. Hard to play a game when cheek to jowl with some stranger. The pizza was fine, nothing special, with a good crust. Got a don

So fun! I recommend going on Fridays for their first 100 ppl free coin deal. Also, the pizza is surprisingly good for a bar

Great place, lots of retro games from my childhood as well as pinball machines. Prices are reasonable too. Highly recommend!

Super fun bar! Awesome atmosphere! Super fun arcade games and nice outdoor areas! Definitely recommend!

Pizza slices are convenient and not totally bad, games are cheap and nostalgic if you're into those old school arcade games. Giant jenga is available as well. Upper and lower deck. Drinks aren't over priced.

Came here for some entertainment and greasy food. We were surprised how good the pizza tasted. The tomato sauce was on point, the meats were good. I would enjoy the dough more if it was a little more chewy. It plenty of pinballs machine and classic 80-90s games. The best part, it's only a quarter a game.

This place is awesome has tons of retro games and it's always busy. I never had to wait long for service at the bar, mainly just waiting around for your favorite pinball machine to open up lol. Definitely going to come back here again. The pizza was better the first time we came though.

Had a great time overall at Up-Down Arcade?the vibe is fun, the games are nostalgic, and the staff, including the bartender, were all super friendly and welcoming. It's definitely a cool spot to hang out and play. That said, the pizza was a letdown. We were really looking forward to trying it, but ended up waiting over an hour with no luck. It was in limited supply and always delayed, so we never actually got a chance to taste it, which was disappointing. Still worth visiting for the arcade experience and

Cool place blast from the past, good drinks, and nostalgic arcade games some new and some from days ago. Nice place for a first date or a hangout for the guys or girls' night out. Now, let's not forget the women and men if you don't remember the days of penny arcades. This place may take you back to a time when you just about could reach the buttons to play pinball. The spectacular thing about this arcade is that it is like if the old arcade were on steroids with drinks, this would have never come to pass. I

Located on the heart of Lyn-Lake. It's the place to be in Minneapolis. The old and the new live next to each other. The games are cheap but the drinks and food are kinda overpriced. There are specials every day. Many arcades from the 80?s. Pinball machines and so much more. It's a great place to hang out. There is quite a following for this place. There is a tiny pizza shop behind the bar and a premium donut vending machine on the side of the pizza shop.

My wife and I like going here. There is a great mix of pinball machines and legacy arcade games. There is a great selection of drinks and the people who work here are attentive, helpful, and very nice. We stopped in and they had a Valentine's week deal with 80 tokens, 6 tallboys (beers), a huge pizza, and a fanny pack for $40. That is an incredible deal especially since all pinball and games are a quarter (1 token). The pizza tasted great but was very messy and hard to eat the way it was cooked and sliced.

I love UpDown! Such nice folks who work here, games are a great variety, and the pizza is yummy ?? I also love all of the little outdoor spaces that allow for a break from noise in between playing games. Keep coming here, folks! It continues to be such a gem ?? ??

You step through the double doors of UpDown Minneapolis, and it's like hitting Start on the best co-op nostalgia run of your life. Neon glows, retro 8-bit tunes pulse through the air, and you're surrounded by cabinets resurrected straight from your childhood (or your emulator folder). From Killer Queen to Mortal Kombat II, the lore here is rich ? a shrine to the pixel gods. GRAPHICS: Let's talk visuals. The entire place is decked out like an arcade threw up in the best way possible. Think murals of game ch

This is hands down the best bar to go out to with a group of friends who are into to arcade games and down to get alittle competitive. Huge selection of drinks and wide selection of arcade games to play.

We wanted sandwiches and they provided! Tasty and well served!

We were there for a date night and got to eat the pizza which was reasonably priced. The atmosphere of games what what we came for. Be aware that you need cash here. They do have an atm on site.

I went with friends on a Friday night and it was too busy to be enjoyable. Lines for games lasted longer than the games themselves, which to me is not worth it. Almost every game we tried was broken in some way. Drinks are not cheap either. The atmosphere was loud and crowded, and not really in a fun way. Also, the token system is kind of a hassle compared to other similar bars that just use quarters.

On Thanksgiving night we had tried a few other bars but they were all closed. One of the friends that we were with suggested Up-Down. What a great choice and exceptional atmosphere! Up-Down is a safe, grown, and diverse establishment that will bring back your inner child hood memories with all of the games that we all grew up fond of! Service from the young lady at the bar when you first walk in was incredible. One of the gentlemen at the bar could take a few tips of hospitality from the young Georgia peach

Simple fair perfect for a drunken nibble, but I definately put this under Bars, not resturants. There are a variety of well maintained games including classics like Time Crisis and some newer high tech ones like this magnetic hovering hockey puck thing. Some nights it can be very busy (the queue is insane), but in the late afternoon you get to play at your leisure. Prices are fair and the bar service is good. I also enjoyed the music and atmosphere which is grungy and rock n roll bar-like as opposed to the

Super fun bar! One of my favorite Uptown spots! Great classic games and cool vibes downstairs. Awesome patio and chill bar upstairs. Awesome spot to meet up with friends and play video games or shuffle board. Definitely worth checking out!

This is probably the biggest Up-Down location I've visited. I love the multi-level entertainment options and outdoor area. There's a ton of games; though, I wouldn't say a huge variety. Unfortunately, this location stays so busy that it's difficult to play a lot of their games anyway. Good for them! Bad for us. Try to come on a week day. The pizza also kind of sucked compared to other locations I've been to but I'll chalk it up to them being crazy busy. I'd still probably go back

This bar/arcade place is amazing. Wide variety of beers from different states. The bartender she was awesome. Definitely makes you go back to you 80's and 90's days. Definitely will be back. Only thing I might give an ugh too is after 9 it gets packed but what do you expect on a Saturday lol ??....

Very nostalgic arcade, perfect for Gen X and Xennials like myself. Tmnt, simpsons, X-men beat em ups, plus classic arcade games like ms pac man. Lots of pinball plus skee-ball and basketball. And pizza slices and booze. So game on! (In Wayne and Garth voices): game on! Game on! There is so much 80s-90s decor, plus 90s cartoons on the tube. They do have some standard tvs for sports but overall this is definitely a nostalgia fest! Zima anyone?

So we've been to other places like this in other city?s so we had to check this place out. Every game we played was just one token other places the pinball can be two tokens. They had a wide selection of games and about 12 pinball games as well. Large bar area and the bartenders are nice. They even have a pizza window and we tried that as well and it was not a bad pizza. Great diversity of a crowd there and we liked it enough that we have been back two more times that week

On a Friday night this place will feel like a nightclub to most folks. It gets crowded and noisy. On top of that the tobacco and weed smoke will certainly be present since the outdoor area vents towards the inside. If you want to come have fun with your friends you'll have to shout at each other because it's also quite noisy with club music. I hope to visit on a different night because the arcades they have are in good shape and are surprisingly affordable. Expect to pay upwards of $7 a pint plus a 3% if

Great for a solo adventure or a group! 21+ to enter which was nice, esp not having children running around!! SUPER reasonable for playing the large selection of games. We visited on Saturday and the coins for the game were buyone get one. The music selection was awesome. Some of electronic game were 1 player, 2 player and 4 player, pinball, pong, skee-ball, 4 player Pacman. Free refills on fountain drinks, free water, nice bar drink selection. They do have CBD and THC Drinks and kombucha. Parking is whereve

Such a great arcade!!!! Love the aesthetics too!

This place is so fun. Loved the selection of games. The music was great and they featured some awesome throwback movies on screen.

Up Down is a really cool place. They have a great selection of arcade games, I've always been able to find open machines to play, they have a roof patio and outdoor seating on both levels. The beer selection is good, the pizza is good. My wife and I really like the joust machine. The only downside is it's popularity means it can get cramped on weekends.

It's dope. New games, great pizza, everyone seems chill for the most part. Good vibes. They have lots of flavors of red bull for the non drinkers and tons of taps.

I will never in my life come here again. I literally watched three security guards jump on a white man for no reason he was a little intoxicated, but he was just looking for his phone. It was the saddest thing I ever experienced. All of them. Security should be fired and I am looking to put in a complaint. This is unacceptable. I never in my life seen someone get jumped on without anyone trying to help him. The security are trash and all of them should be fired.

Pizza is pretty good. Good selection of beer. Really no place to sit. Bad place for socializing but if you just want to play games it's okay.

Up down provided a classic arcade experience with an adult atmosphere. It was perfect you could have a couple of beers a few slices of pizza and play a lot of the old classic games. Pizza was decent a lot of local beers around the menu a good prices. Arcade cabinet selection was pretty good too I am happy to say who is nice to see some of the older classics still running around.

Great place for a strong drink and games. Theres a patio and smoking area, along with a rooftop. We love the bartenders and security. Go for the drinks, play a couple games and have a bite of pizza.

One of the rudest people checking ID and bag. One of the worker was being rude for no reason. The place itself is good, but the worker needs improvement and proper training. They seem to be lazy at talking with their service

Amazing arcade with a lot of pin-ball and retro games. There is a wall of beer on tap and no children. I have not had the food but they have pizza and such

Fun bar, fun games, but not 420 friendly. Staff informed me that marijuana was banned to keep black people out. Don't recommend for that reason

such a vibe!! They had a place to put your coats, staff constantly walking around in case you needed anything, we got a slice of the mac and cheese pizza which was great, and we really got to explore all types of games. had a blast!!

Wide variety of games to play, free or with the purchase of tokens. Yes it is very crowded, but if you don't mind being shoulder to shoulder walking through the crowd or waiting to play certain games this is definitely a place to check out. Main floor bar and a rooftop bar. They have pizza and walking tacos for purchase. Smoking is allowed on the patios. Even if you don't like games this a great spot to people watch . Only complaint would be the connect four games need a little repair, (but it's a free game

If I could give this place 10 stars, I would. Saturday from 12-9 is 2-for-1 tokens. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The variety of games is amazing and so nostalgic. Brings you right back to childhood. And don't get me wrong, because I love kids, but I'm so happy this place is 21+.

Love this place. So rare to have a joint where you can just roam around, play a game here or there, have a slice or donut, order a drink or a soda, and just happily waste your life away. Attracts a nice crowd, too- friendly place. Great service- from bouncer, to bar, to keeping the place clean, to fixing the old machines as best as possible.

Best Barcade I've ever been to (and I've been to a lot). Amazing game selection from new indie cabinets, to classics, to even rarities and niche games. They even have consoles set up to challenge friends or others to games like mario kart and melee. Unfortunately went when it was snowing but apparently they even have an old DDR machine upstairs! Insane beer selection and overall amazing barcade. Wish there was one closer to me :)

Cool music, fun environment. Bf and I love going here and meeting up with friends. Super nostalgic. They also have some fun themed nights

Great selection of games, but the machines break down easily (namely the DDR machine, which was a huge bummer). Love the $3 tallboy Wednesdays!

This place is a gross dive bar pretending to be an arcade. The food is inedible. The service is trash. The employees are rule. The atmosphere is nasty, the place reeks of stail booze and rancid grease. The worst part is the games are super expensive to play. One star...

A ton of fun, great pizzas, and they actually fix their arcade games if anything isn't working. My wife and I play tekken and soul calibur here for hours.

This place is the best! It's a great throwback to the old school arcades but now with 100% more liquor. The games range from Pac-Man to pinball and everything in between. Even a non gamer can find something to play. For those who prefer the physical realm of games there are several skeeballs as well as giant Jenga and giant connect 4. It's best to come with at least one other person to hit the multi-player games. As for drink - the bar is well stocked and reasonable priced. Pizza is served. There are only a

Had such a wonderful time celebrating my sons 21st bday here on st pattys day! Great beer , wonderful staff delcious pizza and the games speak for themselves!! If i canr fund my husband someday its safe to sade hes belly up at a game in the up down!! A place evedyone should visit!!@

Great retro Arcade with lots of older and newer machines. Most games are 25? which is pretty cool. Good selection of local beers.

Such a fun and great place to hang out! They have an awesome bar with liquor and lots of beer. There are so many games to play, I love getting to play games I haven't played in forever. They have specials each night, check the website for all of them. Definitely a place to go when it's cold or you have friends in town or if you're just bored!

They tried to blame me for food and drinks that were derilect and done. Then they sided with some broccoli dude in wanting to fight me for the pettiest thing. This place proves none stop it has no management and is a dangerous place to go.

Up-Down Minn is a cool hangout place with good drinks. This barcade is specifically classic cabinets and pinball machines only, (pinball machines were full all night). We went in as a group, but all the cabinets were occupied already. I only got through maybe 6 tokens at the end of the night. Pizza was okay, ordered the mac-n-cheese and it was decent. Went for drinks, got that at least! Needs a bit more space, or limit the amount of people inside. We were shoulder to shoulder all evening, with the exception

Great atmosphere and plenty of arcade games to play. Plus they have a upstairs rooftop bar.

Electric & Vibing What an absolute gem to experience! The concept is inviting, nostalgic, and welcoming without feeling like you're being pandered or coming off as too forced. The layout is dynamic and flows so there's always room to move along to, plenty of fun games to lose yourself (and countless tokens) in without a care in the world. The staff were speedy, cordial, and kept the upbeat vibe going. With multiple levels, one system for the whole bar, and a variety of analog games such as thicc Jenga, gia

I have loved this bar since it has begun but the problem is the pizza place. As someone who spends so much money on beer and games it really sucks that all the pizza employees are so rude and scary to even want to buy pizza from. We need the pizza employees to be as friendly as the bartenders Because the bartenders are so nice and 15/10 people. Also you shouldn't advertise $2 pizza Fridays when only 2 of the pizzas are $2 and it doesn't say that! It really kills the vibe after drinking beer and having so mu

The staff here are fantastic. While everyone (patrons) are gaming and doing their own thing, the wonderful people working are making things easy for everyone. I can't say enough about their hospitable work ethic and attitudes to help everyone and make this place hum. If there was any issue with a guest I do not believe I would ever notice because they would have it handled already. They are gracious and humble and I appreciate all the great work they do!

So much fun! It was definitely a nostalgic environment. Super easy to burn through $5 in tokens, but totally worth it--especially if you go with friends like I did. They also have so many beers on tap that there's bound to be something there for everyone. And the Friday deal on pizza was excellent, too. Update: still as good as ever.

Awesome!! Pizza is hand made and really good! TONS of arcade games! Probably 10 pinball games. I went on Thursday, which is TEN cent token night!!! All games are one token which is fair. Probably had 50 beers on tap! Super cool place!!

Loved our time here! I think it gets pretty packed if you go out at night but we went at 2pm and it was much more manageable. The pizza by the slice is what really makes the whole experience.

Genuinely one of my favorite spots in Minneapolis, great Cider selection, fantastic game selection. Top tier in my book

Cool place for nerds and all guys who want to make nostalgic journey to old times :) Excellent for team party. Must-see if you are a guest in Minneapolis. And yes skee-ball is awesome!

Just came n played games mostly pinball .25 games packed place lots of b.o. smells lols, went upstairs on rooftop nice for summer weather:)

Bar Pizza. Good selection of beers including sours. Some of the game units could use love and care. In general, not a bad place to spend a couple of hours.

I love it and The Atmosphere is Diversity, Thank you very much:) ???????????? ?? ??

Nothing like drinking good beer and playing vids from my childhood. Friendly staff that have always treated me well. TYVM.

Really fun "barcade". The music was louder than I would of like for 7 pm but it is a bar. There was a wide array of arcade games most of which were working. The interior is really cool. There was two different patios on the first floor and a good top bar. It was pretty busy while we were there but still was able to enjoy some games. I am giving it 5 Stars for its uniqueness and the fact that every game was only 25 cents a play! Awesome! Tips: Bring your photo Identification if you want to get in. Durin

A fun place for a mid week date! My husband and I walked in on a Wednesday evening after eating dinner at a place down the street. We had some game tokens left from a previous visit and had a great time playing some nostalgic faves. If you visit Thu night - Sunday, the place is normally loud and packed, making it a challenge to have any sort of conversation. Visiting on an off day proved to be an excellent idea! My only complaint is that the skee ball machines are always down for repair, or runnung but in n

Chill place for a meetup. Glad they got tight security. They have freakin BattleToads!

First time there, definitely not the last time. It was all good vibes there everyone was just having fun. The games were 1 token each and you can get a lot for $5 or $10.

As a child of the 70s, this place is right in my wheelhouse. I'd love to see the games rotate a bit more often and a greater emphasis on early games vs. stuff from the 90s, but overall they have a nice selection of games that are kept in good working order. Amazing selection of beers, too! I've come back again and again and they never disappoint. I love them. Update: The one complaint I have is that they took away Gyrus. It's a game you probably never heard of, but wow - I secretly "borrowed" a lot of quar

This place is the best! First time in was last night. We had the best time playing all the best vintage arcade games, the Buffalo Chicken Pizza was bomb and drinks we're cold! The summer heat has been no joke and last night was a scary reminder but this establishment was prepared for situations such as ours. After a long fun filled day in the sun we came to eat and play at the Up Down, soon someone in our party was having a medical emergency due to the heat. We notified staff of the situation and literally

Ok so the atmosphere and selection of games at this arcade is incredible. The price of the games is so cheap too, with 20$ in tokens four of us were playing for hours. Only thing that lets this place down is the pizza. It was super super salty and I had the impression it wasn't very fresh. Eat somewhere first then come here and play games and you'll be happy!

Fun place. Great beer. Even better pizza. Lots of video games. Rooftop deck.

Had plenty of games to play. A quarter per play is an awesome deal. Numerous drink selection.

Nice variety of video games--many from the 80s. About a dozen pinball machines as well. Best of all for an arcade: No kids. Must be 21 to enter. If you go on your birthday they give you free tokens for the games. Or there's the free jumbo Jenga.

Cool game/pinball bar. Atmosphere inside is great. Gets pretty busy on the weekends and kinda hectic but nice place. Drinks are good and reasonably priced.

Used to be a fun spot to go to with friends. Pizza dough maker was broken so they gave me a cold slice of pizza and about a third of the games there were broken. Bought pizza around the corner and they wouldn't let me bring it in even though their kitchen was down.

This place is awesome for anybody who grew up in the 80's/90's. The have just about every arcasegame from that era My favorite a full size stand up version of "killer queen". With 4 active simultaneous players. This is the top attraction. With a giant 5x5 screen the line for this game is sometimes hours. Luckily there is a full service bar. If you get hungry don't you worry they have a pizza parlor that serves slices or whole pizzas. Were not talking about any average pizza place. Their pies are over the to

Classic spot, lowkey on during the week, gets lit on the weekend. Everything you could ask for in a spot to wind down from the darkness of day to day life.

Great place to grab a beer. Good beer and drink options too. Easy grab pizza window inside.

Honestly, if you're out in Minnesota at all, you should visit this place. Wonderful night life spot in the heart of twin cities. Dozens of classic and new arcade machines, attentive bartenders and delicious pizza! What else would anyone want from an arcade bar!? Will go every single time I'm in town. Cannot miss for night life peeps

I waited after 6 groups of people to be served. Asked if I was in line and was kicked out. Bar tender suck really bad and manager did nothing. Games are good but bad service

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are pinball tables still good in this modern age?

Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds.
