Customer Reviews

Tyler's Tender is such a sweet restaurant for train loving kiddos and anyone young at heart! It is spacious inside with plenty of special spots at the counter where the train brings you your food. The whole place was very clean and the staff were so friendly! They offer a great menu selection for everyone and the prices are VERY reasonable in my opinion. They have a small arcade with games that are mostly 50 cents each to play and cute little prizes you can trade for the tickets you win. TT also has a very

S?per family friendly great place service and staff. They were all super nice and helpful. First time visiting and my kids loved it . There was a wait time but with the arcade the wait was super fast

Diner feel to it. Kids 12 , 4, 2 liked the train delivering food. It's a kids place. The chicken tenders were good. My mushroom burger was subpar. Has a chuckee cheese feel to it with the games and you don't have to deal with ghetto people. The staff was friendly. The only thing I didn't like was paying for the train ride. I think it should be included with the meal but it was only a dollar.

We went for a birthday party. Very child-oriented and family-friendly venue. My son loved the train ride and arcade. I only wish the times for the party lasted longer because we had to drive far to get to it.

We showed up with a party of 8. We got seated quickly, and served quickly. Everyone loved their food! The Homemade chips are a must! The arcade has been updated and a lot of fun for the littles. We all thought the waitress was the best waitress we've ever had anywhere. I wish I got her name before we left. She was really amazing and handled our little toddler well when she kept asking for the train. I love bringing family from out of town here and will continue to do so! If I could have given it 10 stars

Clean establishment with great service and food. Healthy options as well as burgers and tenders. Kids stay busy and the resustaurant is the perfect size to keep your eyes on the kids at all times. We enjoyed the chicken wraps and pizza. The milkshake was perfect! We will be back. Service was on point and the staff worked together as a team to make the magic happen!

Kids enjoy sitting at the counter so the train brings the food. They have a small arcade in the back. Nicely hidden lol that way if its your 1st time your kids only find it if you let them. Food is very good! If I give the kids a choice of McDonald's or here they want to go here and I'd rather spend the time and money here!

Coolest place to take your kids to eat. The food was great and the train theme is spot on. The food even comes out on a little train set. The staff is beyond nice and patient with the kids and even had someone take the kids on a little train ride inside the restaurant. The kids loved it. There is an attached arcade to the restaurant as well but off to the side so doesn't interfere with dinner. Amazing place.

We have been regulars here for so many years with our 4 kiddos! It is their favorite and always their pick for special occasions and birthdays! I love that they can eat, have ice cream, ride the train and play some arcade games all in one spot that is easy to track them in! Katie, their main server completes the experience! She is such a sweetheart and always greets us and all of her guests with a smiling face and never loses her patience or smile! She is such a hard worker, providing the best service and h

Our kids love it here. Food is excellent. The staff is kind and accommodating. Always look forward to our experience here. The train table is interactive so you can make the lights come on in buildings, make trains move, etc. sitting at the bar is fun because the train brings you your food. The kids love ending the visit riding on the train ($1 each).

Nice place to bring the kids. Especially for those who love trains. There is a model train that rides through tunnels and a miniature town under plexiglass. The kids can ride a little train that goes around a track for $1. The food was okay. Nothing that blew me away. The best part of the dining experience for me was the miniature train that brought my food . Great little arcade in the back. Very small prizes. Single pieces of candy, plastic rings, and Chinese finger traps. There is nothing extra special

Good for young train lovers. Best for ages between 11 and 4 in my opinion. Has train for young ones to ride. Arcade with tickets and pinball machines. Children's menu available with train that brings food to you.

Had to kill time and was hungry so I got the grown up grilled cheese and it was yummy. Kids would love this place if you have any. Thank you!

Great for kids. Food is good. Prepare to spend time here.

Got the mushroom burger pretty good nice place to eat and take the whole family got a kids arcade, it takes quarters, and it's easy to get tickets. They got a model train, a ride that is a train, and a train that brings out your food pretty awesome great staff very attentive

Cute place for a kids birthday party. The arcade was fun. My kids loved it. Some of the individual pizzas for the kids were burnt on the bottom and one came out uncut. They did end up slicing the pizza after being asked to and re made the burnt one that was sent back. I have celiac and couldn't eat the pizza but they can make their burgers/sandwiches in a lettus wrap. Fries were good too.

Stumbled upon this little treasure. The food and service were great and the atmosphere is for train lovers. Can't wait to bring my grandkids when they visit. Sit at the counter and your food is delivered by train. There's an arcade too!

Great place to take kids! Fun atmosphere. Lots of hands on activities for kids. Take your wallet as you'll need tokens or quarters for games. Food is passable but nothing special. If you sit at the counter, your food is delivered by a train! A few train rides. Enjoyable

We love unique places to stop at. If you are in the area, I would definitely stop. There is a small train you can ride for $1 and there are arcade games to play. The best part.... your food is served by a train!

Affordable, and extremely kid friendly place. The food, atmosphere, and arcade are all going to be great to a child - not an adult. Wish the whole train display worked - and all the arcade games. But kids don't notice, so not a huge deal. Hope this place lasts forever.

This train themed restaurant has more amenities than any other similar restaurant I have ever been to. For a kid-centered restaurant, they had a surprisingly good selection for adults. The staff was incredibly friendly, helpful and attentive. We will definitely be coming back again and next time bringing friends and family.

Tyler?s Tender is one of the coolest hidden gems in Schererville! Fun atmosphere, great food, and the train theme makes it an experience ? not just a meal. Kids love it, and honestly, so do we. ?? We're a local detailing business (Prestige Auto Shine NWI), and it's always refreshing to stop by spots like this that truly care about service and quality. ?? Amazing Family Dining. The employees here have the hearts of saints. It really takes a lot to work entertainment and they do it with grace and poise. Always clean, and they are always on top of your family's specific needs. The games are great and entertaining, the train ride is a great staple! They really take care of all of their customers and meet the whole family's needs. Something for everyone here!

The prices are right at this little train stop. The food is actually delivered via a train if you're sitting at the counter. There's an arcade with pinball machines and little prizes for the kids. You can tell that the pretzel bun is homemade and not overwhelming the meal. I highly recommend making tracks to this luncheon junction.

This place is awesome!! All the other train restaurants closed anywhere near us and my son has to go to a train restaurant on his birthday so thank God for Tyler?s Tender. This is by far the best one we have been to too so I'm glad we found it, puts All-Aboard and Choo Choo Johnny?s to same, not even close. The staff was friendly and energetic, the food was good, and the trains and arcade are a huge step up. They have train rides every 15 minutes which was the biggest win of the day for our little guys.

We took my grandson and I knew he would like the theme, but I was really impressed with everything. Food, service, cleanliness, and the stuff for the kids were really good. Been to a lot of 'kiddie' places over the years and nothing else comes close. VERY highly recommend.

Too much fun. Great for kids and adults. Bring change for the arcade.

I'm from the Region but have settled far away. When my wife and kids return for the holidays, we don't need to ask where they would like to go first. They love the trains, they love the arcade, to be sure. Those are excellent, as is the food, but the staff here are exceptional. The restaurant is full of kids, and the staff does an amazing job of making all of them feel seen and special. It is hard to put into words, but this is a magical place. I will take my kids here as long as I can until they say I'm do

Katie made our first visit so much fun!!! The food was surprisingly delicious and the train ride and food delivery were great! Our grandchildren can't wait to go back!

All our food was delicious the kids loved the train bringing our food out and the little train to ride on! Lots of arcade games for more fun as well!

It has a larger menu than I thought it would have, very nice family oriented place. I went to a meeting there and was surprised they had a separate room for groups. Everyone enjoyed their meal, service was perfect and no problem with everyone getting their own checks.

Food was really good and service was friendly and quick. Very important when you have a toddler. The trains are fun. Given the size of the place, though there is not as much seating as you would think. Trains take up space :) Very well worth going for adults and kids. Food is excellent and lots of fun trains to watch.

Food was great and the kids had soooo much fun. Huge naps afterwards. They ride the train, squealed with excitement when the train delivered their food and played games for another hour after lunch. Very friendly staff!

Came to Tyler's early on a Saturday for lunch. It became increasingly busy but we weren't uncomfortable. We've been to many train restaurants, this was definitely my favorite! Counter has a very nice set up for train meal delivery. The stools aren't too high for kids, and it was clean. The large scale train table is functional and well maintained, with multiple button stations and step stools. The display WORKS and is realistic, I've seen others lacking. They have a ride on three car train in another room a

I have children ranging in age from 1.5-13 and they all love Tyler's Tender! Kids, teens, and adults can all find something they like on the menu. Sitting at the counter so the train could deliver the food was the highlight! The little ones loved riding on the train, and dad and the big kids had tons of fun in the arcade room.

Complete wast of time!!! Went there with my son and husband walked in and wasn't even acknowledged till about 10 mins of standing at the door. Took our number down and didn't give us a pager when they said they were going to give us one to let us know when a table was ready. Also sat people that came in afterwards. I don't know if was because we are Mexican but definitely seemed like they catered to the majority of white people then us which was the whole restaurant. Before we left there where plenty of tab

Tyler's Tenders quickly became the most-visited restaurant for my family. As the name indicates, chicken tenders are among the great food here at this railroad-themed restaurant but the food is not limited to kid's fair, there is a lot really great food cooked in that kitchen! The chef will not let you down no matter what it is you order, from the chicken tender basket for your little one to the Cuban sandwich which is out of sight good to the crispy caesar salad that does not disappoint! Fast and friendly

The staff is amazing, the food is always good, and my kiddo LOVES riding the train! There's also an arcade that the kids LOVE to go play in and redeem their tickets for prizes at the counter.

This is what they send home for a $7 bowl of soup. Container isn't even half full. I tried calling them and after explaining to the first person what I was calling for they asked me if they could put me on hold. Out of no where someone picks up the phone saying that's 2 laddels worth that that's what we give?. We spent a hundred just on our take out order, not even counting the other hundred we dropped in the arcade. The $15 container of their ?dinner entree Mac n cheese? is just big of a joke as there 2 dr

Let's be honest...this is for kids. Thankfully the food is actually decent. It's actually pretty roomy and clean. Sit at the counter and a train delivers your food! They have an arcade room that's basic but can easily wrestle another $20 out of your wallet. The staff is nice and usually pretty on top of service.

My husband, 3 year old son and I drove from Orland Park IL to visit Tyler?s Tender RR. The restaurant was clean and well staffed. Our waitress (gosh I can't remember her name now but she said she worked there for about 8 years) was fantastic. She waited for my son to come back to the counter before she sent the train out with our food. She was so friendly and funny. The food was great! All the activities for the kids were fun! 10/10 highly recommend.

We went on Friday morning at 1045 and we had the entire place to ourselves. The server was very friendly and the place is clean. They have a train for kids to ride, one behind glass they can watch and another that delivers the food. We ordered kids Mac and cheese (which is kraft) and a veggie burger which was really good. Great for the Littles!

Great place for kids and train lovers. My son loved the train ride and when the train delivered his food. I didn't like that they didn't have toddler friendly prizes. He won some tickets but nothing was safe for him to have. We ended up giving his tickets to an older kid. Food was good. Nothing spectacular but the presentation was great.

Went for lunch with a large group. Kids were very entertained. Food was average.

I was shocked!!! We decided to take our 2 yr old grandson and to be honest with a place geared for kids, I didn't expect much. First of all the food here is good and the waitress we had was a young teenage friendly girl who was extremely attentive and the prices are really reasonable. I think the train ride cost me like a $1.00 and the average arcade game was .50 (Fifty cents) It was a great experience and we will definitely be back!!!

Tyler's Tender is the cutest little train restaurant. Our three boys love going here and love that their food arrives via train when you sit at the counter. Katie, the manager, is accommodating, friendly and warm! She is always working hard! Perfect for kids

This is now my go-to "Station" for our grandchildren! We went to Tyler's Tender for the first time yesterday while our son and his family were here visiting from out of state. Atmosphere and Activities: Cute place. Clean, great train-themed decor. Great layout. I liked that the arcade area was separate from the restaurant in another wing. Our 3.5 year old grandson had a FANTASTIC time. He loved that he could push buttons to make the model trains stop and go. He was all grins, waves, and bell dinging

Nice place to take the little ones for the trains my son loved it plus the food was actually pretty good

Good place for kids. Food is lunch style. Arcade is good. Kids love it.

Really cute place. Food was really good. Grandbaby had a really great time. Katie was our server and she was super sweet and very attentive to the needs for our little group. Absolutely love the food delivery on the train.

We love Tyler's Tender! They have a nice selection of food for young and old. The food always comes out hot and fresh. They have a train around the central bar area that brings food out if you sit there - they have clip-on high chairs for the bar. They have a ride-on train and a smaller one that takes coins. They also have an arcade. The bathroom has a kid size toilet.

Just a wonderful experience for young children. I went with my grandson. Pinball and an arcade too! Best day!

Very cool place for younger kids (maybe 10 and younger). They have a train they can ride on (adults too!), a cool mini train display, food train at the bar counter and the food was surprisingly delicious. Great value as well.

Great place for kids. The food was better than expected; I liked it. My grand kids (3 yos) loved the place. With everything going on the noice level was great.

Fun little diner, old school vibes, and an I've cream bar, the kids loved the train set up and the train ride

Great place to take the kids and have some fun. I've been taking my kids here for over 10 years and have never been disappointed by the food or service.

What a fun place to bring the kids! The train ride is a must and small train at is fun for the kids! The food is surprisingly good for a smaller place like this. Wide variety of choices on the menu and child friendly as well! Highly recommend a visit here!

My son?s birthday was coming up and we asked him where he wanted to go. His quick response was ?Tyler?s Tender.? My kids enjoy going to this restaurant because of the train theme. There is a large train that kids can ride for $1, a train that delivers your food if you sit at the counter, and a train setup that you can control by pushing a button (4 different stations to try). There is also an arcade in the back that you can win tickets to trade for various items. My kids always have a good time when we go h

If your kids love trains this is the place where to go. I ate here yesterday I ordered pizza and fries the pizza was delicious the fries to good I also played with the button where it's turn on the train the CSX didn't work the button was broken but I didn't care. There was only two trains that were working the CN and the CANADIAN PACIFIC.Best place ever. They also have ice cream. It was good I wish that there was a 10 star review.

I love going here. Train lovers: Stop here!!

I take my kids there every year for their birthday with their grandmother. They love the train and the arcade in the back. They are getting a bit big to ride the train but always insist on it. This is a nice family tradition. Also the staff is always so sweet to our family.

It was amazing! The pot roast melt is amazing, the kids absolutely love it, it's just great all around!

Fun place for little train lovers. Food delivered by train, small train that runs on track. A bunch of video games, ski ball, etc.

Great mom and pop restaurant to bring the kids to. It's has an arcade and a train for the kids to ride. Food is reasonably priced and pretty good. I recommend the pot roast sandwich on pretzel bread.

Went to Tyler's Tenders with my sister and her grandkids. The atmosphere for young children is great. There are several games for them to play and they are not overly expensive, so they will get a lot of entertainment for the amount that you pay. The food is nothing's special, but that's OK. It tastes fine, and you're there for the entertainment, not for a gourmet experience. We were there for my birthday, and I know the kids loved it because they asked whether I was having another birthday soon so they

Great place, have a few gluten-free items, arcade, cool layout, and train to ride!

Great food and a nice place to go with or without the kids. If you do go with kids and there's room, sit at the counter. It's neat to have your food delivered by train. Our kids rode the bigger train and we shared the Train Wreck dessert.

Just wow a hidden gem the food is delicious and if your kids love train this is it. The train ride is token so make sure your bring cash but today they told me they put it in my bill so that was awsome

Katie (literally the best waitress) is always busting her booty, and smiling while she does it! Everytime we come here it seems she is the only one working. My kids have fun here and it's a clean environment

Fun place. Food at the "bar" comes by train. Great entertainment for kids.

This is a wonderful child geared friendly place! It is where you go to take your children or grandchildren, as in my case, for food and fun for all. We Loved it and the grandkids always have a great time.

Food was ehh, I really liked the pot roast melt but the sides weren't great at all. Soupy Mac and cheese and gross potatoes. Service was good and my son loved the trains. Also loved they have a clamp seat so kids can sit at the counter, also delivered his food on the train which he loved (He's 2 btw)! I'd definitely come here for dessert and the train but probably won't be back for dinner. Most of their arcade machines are just token eaters but no out of order signs.

Awesome place ! The girls helping us out were so nice ?? definitely recommend ????your kids will have so much fun

Great place to take children who love trains. It's actually pretty kool that your food cums around on a train.

Exactly everything I expected from a lunch diner. Food was very well prepared. The trains absolutely had the kids running from one display to another. Very exciting for them. The waitstaff also very patient and helpful.

Best family restaurant I know in the region. It's train-themed and has an indoor track and train for small kids. It's also attached to an arcade room with some fun games. Don't forget to collect rewards (tickets) from the arcade machines and redeem them for small gifts that kids like!

Super cute little place, nice vibes and fun arcade in the back.

An incredible place from my childhood that has withstood the test of time. To this day it is a magical place with great food, prices, and service to boot. The staff are super friendly, and it's just an absolute treat! Would 110% recommend to anyone and everyone :D

My 3 grandchildren loved this place!!

Not a bad place to bring your little ones. Food is mediocre, reminds you of high school cafeteria food, so not my thing. The kids had fun playing with the train set that the kids can press buttons to light up and move the train. Kids enjoy the train ride and in the back was a small arcade. Definitely a great place for the little ones. Also would like to mention and give props to the owner, they have a small working toilet for the kids, it was very cool!

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
