Customer Reviews

2 stars ? For the playoff game, not the bartender. Came to The Reef with my girlfriends to play darts, catch the Knights vs. Wild playoff game, and give a proper sendoff to our amazing RN friend. We were having a great time? until Beardy McAttitude decided to make an appearance. Dark brown hair, full beard, and the energy of someone who definitely still argues with his mom and has never had a healthy relationship with a woman. While we were mid-game and watching our TV (you know, one of MANY in the bar),

Nice little bar. A lot to do. Friendly staff. Hard to have a conversation it was extremely loud.

Karaoke night is the best. OPTC wuz here

Their food is alright and they still have free popcorn machine! There's plenty of bar games, TVs and the drink prices are decent.

It's a really nice place and has a good crowd. I would say the tables are a little sticky and could be cleaned more but that's about it.

Great time at the reef.

Went here for my impromptu bachelor party. This place was better than expected. Seems like a whole in the wall place but you walk in and are amazed by how big the place is. Lots of space & lots of games. Plenty of pool tables, dart boards and other bar games to include some arcade game. Great drink selection and even have some really good pizza. Definitely was a great place for an last minute minute bachelor party.

My favorite bar in Duluth. The bartenders are all great people that are great at their job. Very nice and calm atmosphere, but gets busy on the weeknights which is great. The owner is very friendly and a great guy. They also serve high quality pizza. Overall, would recommend for everyone.

The bartender Paul was great! He was super friendly and very attentive to everyone in the bar. Love that guy!

If you're looking to support a local business during the Corona situation, this is one you should visit. An amazing and dedicated owner, probably the most friendly bartenders on this side of the bridge, amazing conversation from staff and patrons alike and more than appropriate pricing for Duluth. If you are in the area, Dan makes the best bloody you've ever had and will remember your order every time; his commitment to his customers and this establishment keeps me coming back every week. The Reef is a gorg

They destroyed my ID and had their owners come in to verify that I indeed was a regular customer of legal age - would not recommend this bar to anyone. Been coming here for months and always loved it- will never be returning

Price: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Hours: 5/5 Selection: 3/5 Entertainment: 4/5 You'll be hard pressed to find a better bar open late within the Duluth city limits. The drinks are reasonable, bar tenders are friendly, and they have plenty of entertainment (darts, pool, pull tabs, TVs for sports, and karaoke a couple times a week)

I've been in there 3 times now. Theres no food except for frozen pizza, which is actually not too bad. I've always met new people in there who are generally very friendly and nice. Theres a good selection of beers and craft brew on tap. Most of the bartenders are good, there is one who waits on the regulars primarily and ignored the newcomers. But for the most part it's a pretty cool dive bar.

Great atmosphere and full of great people. The Reef is filled with all types of people and is one of the laid back college type of bar. Free popcorn and great tap selection. If you are feeling up to it a shot menu is available.

The place is kind of cramped. Not very open. There are plenty of TV's but they just seem to be at awkward angles. The parking is very iffy here. The lot is extremely small and full of potholes and bumpy. I often have to park across the busy street and cross traffic to get into the bar. The restroom is pretty sad. It's a bar and I'm not expecting perfection but there are many things that could be done to improve the customer experience here

Nice little bar. Some dark haired bro with a tight shirt on spun a bottle opener on his finger the entire time I was there. Nobody was even drinking a bottle. Maybe it's a brain condition?

Pretty relaxed dive. Nice and roomy with plenty of games to play

Smell like damp and hot. Both restroom floors were slippery. Good shots though. We were the visitors in town for a night, will not go back.

The bar is your typical hole in the wall. Fair enough prices in drinks. Besy thing they offer is their Buck Hunt game. It's well calibrated and has only been out of order once. Good times have been had in this bar.

Poor service. Bartender actually tried to serve me alcohol in a glass with FLOATING dirt. I tried to complain but he yelled at me and said to leave. I will never return here again.

The Reef is the best place in town to watch Vikings football! There's a free snack at halftime and popcorn plus reasonable prices on drinks. Now, if only the Vikes would make the experience that much better by winning their games!

I love bars that have "split" setups. The bar area is the music area and then they have a pool/darts area where people can converse. It's my favorite bar in Duluth. Great pizza and great service as well.

Great deals and lots of events. Staff is always spectacular. Definitely recommend if you want a chill place to drink

One of my favorite bars in D town. Pull tabs, bring your drink outside with ya on a patio overlooking lake Superior. Fun locals darts, pool, popcorn...friendly staff. I heart the reef!!

We enjoyed our brief stop. The barentender wasn't lean on the booze in our drinks. They have a variety of games including ski ball! And a patio over looking superior.

Typical college bar, pretty large inside, good beer selection. Interesting Karaoke night, lots of games in back. Free popcorn is cool.

A dive bar without any of the perks of a dive bar. Dirty, bad drinks, and extremely rude staff. Karoke operator actually flicked off patrons and heckled people over the mic. Will never come back to this establishment.

I had a fantastic time here! There is lots to do and it's a big area so you aren't smooshed up against other people even if it is busy. Would definitely recommend

Carry Okie rocks! Good DJ, great crowd, lots of good voices ( but just the right kind so you are not nervous getting up yourself ), fun all around till the little numbers on the clock.

The reef is a dirty place and the staff is anti-American, anti George Bush and pro 9/11 as they had a reenactment of the twin towers falling last Monday, and had a Osama bin Laden memorial and said Obama should?ve never assassinated in. They also called me the N-Word on the way on the way out.

Karaoke on NYE is dumb. Just sat in a silent bar until people started karaoke. Weird. Good prices though.

Nice friendly people, they have good bar tenders. Lots of good salty popcorn. Pool tables,

Local bar with friendly locals.

Cheap and easy like your mom at a Bachelorette party. Bathroom looks like Auschwitz. This is definitely the place your parents warned you about when referring to the risks of catching an STD.

My wife and I were there playing DJ trivia. What a fun place, great food great beer fun staff. We'll definitely be back.

What you would expect for an union bar. Lots O bar Olympics avail

It's better than my own front room if you are a local coledge student or local working man or even road weathered traveler you are welcomed and treated like your visiting family great drinks good prices and he'll free peanuts and popcorn can't beat that with a stick!

This is a good bar with a pretty calm atmosphere. There is quite the mix of people as far as ages go. The service is fast and the drinks are good

Staff are awesome. It's a nice place if you're looking for a sports bar that's not ridiculously expensive and it's more of a laid back tempo.

Good atmosphere. Friendly staff. Great beer on tap with good mixture of local and national craft breweries.

Love partying with my peeps here. MN Vikings game ,free shot by owner for every TD. Lots of tv's

Plenty of selections, friendly bar staff, plethora of televisions to watch sports, pull tabs, and some games like darts in the back. Great place to hang out!

Meh. Sat down at a 4 top and the bartender just stood a stared at us. Hadta walk over and ask if they had food. Nope just stale popcorn and frozen pizza. No thanks.

Very poor and rude service I and my friend waited over 30 mins for a drink bartenders looked at us we were there first they still served others and skipped us we talked to bartenders there and bouncers and they said oh well nothing they can do about it it happens so because I'm not a college student I cant get served that wrong

Cheap bier, cheap food, what more can you expect? They have a patio for smoking, a large back room for when near the bar is too loud, the have one pinball game always. Not my crowd that goes there.

Had to wait in line for 1 hr. The bouncer did not know how to move the line at all. Mcgolden was out when I got in. The bouncer did not let in people when people exited, the bar wasn't even full. Not how you wanna make money if you ask me.

They have a pinball machine ?? and the drinks & service were great too. They also make their own bloody mix that was excellent

Great local bar, incredible staff, great selection of beer, and plenty of pool tables and day machines.

Very friendly welcoming staff and environment reasonably priced drinks also i love the live pull-tab booth

This is my go to place after work on a Friday, the staff is great and so it the food!

I went the to visit family and karaoke was on that night and I heard one of the best singers in a long time it was quiet, drinks were good, we had a good time.

Awesome bar. Great place to watch Viking's games. Free shots whenever the Vikings score and free pizza at halftime

A good place to grab a drink or two and play some pool. The tap selection was pretty decent actually and the prices were reasonable enough.

Loved the place! Fast service, clean bathrooms and games in the back. Fun atmosphere

If I could put 0 stars I would. My mixed drink was watered down and my pop was watered down even more.

Love This Bar their patio overlooks Lake Superior nice friendly people Union man in the union members there felt very comfortable keep it up Reef

Dan makes hands down the best bloody mary in Duluth! Always a great time at The Reef.

Good place to get some drinks and play some pool, college crowd on weekends, cool place to hangout

Tommy is cool af, love this place, first time here and it was great. Nice folks. Come have a tall Surly!

Great bar with friendly staff. Cheap food and beer. Awesome atmosphere.

Nice bar, lots of pool tables

Have been going here off an on for a long time..Always treated well and a fun place to have big groups of people.

Great place for after work. Friendly atmosphere and staff.

Pretty good bloody Mary, good tap selection and lots of pool tables and dart boards.

Local bar.... younger crowd... but it's alright.

Great bar. Local feel with college kids to happy hour folks.

Nice party room in the back, lots of bar space! Quick bartenders

Fun place. Music is Wayyyy loud when you're playing pool, otherwise, nice enough place!!

Love this place!! Best service ever! Bartenders are amazing & hardworking!

Great bar, daily drinks, pool, darts, sometimes has karaoke, local taps etc!

The lady bar tender is always a rude sour c*nt. Really kills the vibe

Fun atmosphere, a lot of great entertainment. Especially Shari from KMA, excellent DJ!!

Bartenders are first class. Plenty of tv's and bar games. Great atmosphere.

Good Chicken Alfredo Pizza! The meeting area is nice, big, and private.

Bad experience, did not like that the bartender did not think I was the age on my ID, felt that my age was a problem in the bar even though over 21+

Great place for a good time. Great bartenders as well.

Favorite local watering hole. Only a few blocks from home so it's a must have in the neighborhood

Bartender was rude, didn't acknowledge us and wouldn't come wait on us! She was too busy eating!

Guess if you like the last dive before Lakeside, place for you. Sports, karaoke nights, cheap beer smell.

Very rude bartenders. Very very very poor cocktails. If you want to pay $6 for a regular coke, this is your place

Decent specials, beautiful lake view, lots of events and a great crowd.

Such a fun place to hang out, Tommy is the best bartender in town!

Great place to unwind and enjoy interacting with the bartenders and customers!

Every time I come back to the area I must make a stop here. It's a huge establishment with plenty going on.

Hasn't changes much over the years. Game room seems bigger then I remember.

Always a stop on my visits back home. Get the Bloody Mary you will love it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are pinball tables still good in this modern age?

Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds. Though less common than video games, pinball’s tactile charm and community vibe make it a standout arcade experience in 2025.

Are pool tables in arcades still good in this modern age?

Yes, pool tables in arcades remain a fantastic draw in 2025! Games like 8-ball or 9-ball offer tactile, skill-based fun that blends strategy and precision. Modern tables feature smooth felt, responsive cues, and vibrant designs, enhancing the classic experience. Arcades foster a social vibe with casual matches or competitive tournaments, appealing to all skill levels. Unlike digital games, pool’s physicality—lining up shots, feeling the cue’s weight—keeps it timeless.

Why are arcade prize games so exciting to play?

Arcade prize games are a thrilling highlight in 2025! Claw machines, skee-ball, and ticket-redemption games like basketball offer a rush of skill and chance, with rewards like plushies, toys, or electronics up for grabs. Modern machines feature vibrant lights, digital scoreboards, and responsive controls, amplifying the fun. The lively arcade atmosphere, with cheering crowds and buzzing energy, makes every win feel epic.
