I came for the pinball, not the ambience. Great selection of machines and other games as well. The bar is convenient for a drink or something light to eat. I was here early in the day, so I did not get to experience night time activity.
Came with my two girls (6 & 8), plenty of other kids coming in and out. Bar was perfect, just quick easy drinks, nothing fancy; Christina was excellent. Food is what you remember from 6th grade at the arcade or skating rink with your friends, and so are the games. If you're looking for something fun to do with the kids to get out of the heat, this is your spot.
Portal is always a fun place to hangout with my pals. I've also seen a punk show there once, definitely a small venue but I still enjoyed the show!
This is a very fun, open, and inviting environment. I got to watch all the arcade cabinets put in from a very humble beginning. My only grievances are that they may have gone a little bit too hard on the pinball machines and a good handful of the machines need some work and WILL eat your quarters (I suggest you ask which ones are guilty of that before playing). The classic CarnEvil machine is busted and that's a sin in itself, but aside from that, it's still a very good time and is always my first recomme
Great place little cramped but overall a great arcade! Dollar plays for the pin ball machines Rush, Godzilla, Batman, AC/DC. Good drinks with a friendly bartender. He also had great taste in choosing movies to display, the classic Conan the barbarian while we played pool. Couldn't ask for a better night. ?? Cheers
We had time to kill on our last night in Savannah and this was definitely the place. Love so many of these old school games! I had fun playing Pac-Man and Ninja Turtles while my husband and a friend played Street Fighter, Pong and many others! Cool little place! Stop by if you love games!
It's a cool place, but unfortunately the staff was condescending and even altered the tip on my bill (they changed a $12 tip on a $60 tab to $112 as the total, making it a $52 tip) which I only found out about days later from my credit card company.
Interesting arcade in downtown Savannah and similar to other old school arcades popping up around the U.S. which is nice. Since I didn't spend more than about 15 minutes here my review is not as thorough as others might be. A solid selection of games overall and decent prices for them. The one exception was the baseball game shown here. This was a staple of my childhood and I can recall playing dozens of times. I wish the price was a little lower here as $1 for three outs seems relatively step compared to o
This place is definitely a dive bar but it's really cool. It's a little crowded with people and the machines, but oh man they've got so many good machines. It's like $1 for one set of pinball, but $2 for 3x the play on the machine. They have an ATM machine inside and a coin machine. I wouldn't say this place is super clean, but the bathroom was definitely usable and I did feel comfortable in there. There's like no covid safety practices, so if you're concerned about that, bring some wipes or hand sanitizer.
Fun place for me and the kids. Woman behind bar made us some amazing food. Will definitely be back!
Benny and Pandora are the absolute best humans who provided a magical *safe* and super fun environment (and amazing cocktails!!) while being rays of absolute sunshine!!!! Not to mention making stellar food on a dime!! The people who come to party At this bar are a blast! The Barcade games are cheap and everyone respects each other in this enviroment!!! I was here before too, and the male bartenders I can't remember the name of are also awesome! I've only ever had Delicious drinks and awesome times here !!
So much fun! Went late at night and it had a great vibe! The staff were upbeat, enthusiastic, and fun! Made me an awesome coffee beverage and service was great. Great arcade games and beverages. My husband and I had a blast playing Gauntlet for hours. :-) Open until at least 2am.
Pretty good bar selection and the prices are good. The video games that did work were fine, but $1 a game..? Even just for the old arcade games. The servers weren't very friendly. And the bathroom sealed the deal that we won't be back.
Fun place with some great pinball machines. The bartenders had great specials going on for cheap drinks and we were able to drink and play pinball for over an hour for $12. Can't beat that at all. My only wish would be that skeeball was a bit cheaper. $1 per play is a tad bit too expensive. Great times and will come back.
Me and my wife enjoyed the drinks and enjoyed the time! There was also a new trainy on his first day! Was a great time, all round!
Awesome place. Had some kind of alcoholic jalapeno drink that was out of this world.
Great dive bar with delicious drinks at good prices. They have steel tip darts and pinablls machines. Bathroom were pretty good too.
Cucumber basil smash is a must have drink. It's both refreshing and delicious. Quick service by bartenders. Fun games - pool, air hockey, and the punching/kicking bag are great additions. Great atmosphere, great music, and a great experience for anyone looking for something to do in savannah.
The very first dining place my Grandmother and I visited when exploring Savannah. Just on a whim, we were looking for a location to have brunch and of corse, I wanted to check this out. We played some games and ate some delicious foods. Cool experience and one we will never forget.
Fun classic games to play. You need your own quarters. Definitely plan ahead. 4 stars for the change machine always being broken. I guess they don't need money from guests? Interesting.
Nice place, friendly staff and a cool atmosphere with the music, all the arcade and pinball machines. If I'm ever in the area again I'll be stopping by : )
They don't have a sign! But they say all the best bars are the ones without them! Also they have the best prices on premium liquors and beers that i know of downtown, also Jeff he's an awesome bartender ! ??
Fun! Safe! Great for the family! Coin operated classic games pinball and more! Good food menu and good beer and drinks.
The kids had fun. It could be a little cleaner and have more options, but it is what it is.
Friendly and extremely friendly staff. The skee ball machines right in front drew us in, the drinks, games and atmosphere made us stay. Highly recommend stopping by for a fun time!
I am not a negative review kind of girl, but my experience here was horrendous. Visited during a nearly empty Saturday afternoon, stood at the bar waiting for service for far too long, despite making direct eye contact with the bartender on more than one occasion. At one point, the manager needed to be called for assistance...and I was shocked to see that the manager had been playing arcade games with his friends the entire time we had been there. I thought he was a guest from the moment we walked in (a lou
Really cool place, good start to my Savannah vacation. Love that they have that one cabinet with all the fighting games like Street Fighter, JoJo, X-Men, and KoF
Very fun place, great atmosphere, drinks are wonderful and the food was amazing.
Great little place to escape reality. Smells like happiness and childlike fun. Had a cute bar for spirits and snacks.
We had an amazing time!!! They let our service dog in!! Drinks amazing and games did not disappoint!! Highly recommend!
Kids had a good time. Very safe
The place had a good vibe. Drinking and playing pin ball machine? Epic!
Super fun spot. Cheap beer and great games.
More games than most. Well maintained games w good food and drinks. *edit after all these years. Went back in Dec 24. The Asian dude is the worst, just looked blankly and ignored me. The dude w the dreads was noticeably better than most and taller than that dude
I love the Portal . I visit there every time I go to Savannah. The staff are down to earth. They used to have some pretty unique deviled eggs that were to die for however they stopped making them! What a disappointment. I drove 700 miles from Delaware to get some. Ok that's a lie because I was going to Savannah regardless! Anyway they definitely need to be brought back.
Way overpriced arcade overall. But a fun experience for drinks and games.
A little small and grimy, but still a good time! Some of the games accept credit card but there are a good portion that are cash only so definitely bring your dollars! Pro tip: if the start button light on a pinball machine is flashing green, there's a free play loaded on it? press start and you get a game for free ??
Randomly came in and Chris made us the best drink we've ever had!! Definitely check this place out!!!
This place is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! One of the perks I LOVE about this place is the fact that it is kid friendly!!! My 4 yr old niece and I come here every other weekend, and have developed a repore with the staff!! They are so nice and friendly!!! The hospitality at this place is off the scale!!! If you are looking me place to hang out with the kids, but still do adult activities, I HIGHLY recommend this place, especially if you're in to games!!!!
come here if you want a drink with bugs in it! the bartender gave us a new drink but you'd think they'd at least look at the first drink they provided before serving it! games are somewhat limited and expensive. will not return
Super fun!! Spent several hours here, had drinks and a hotdogs, played pool and dabbled with a few games. Some of the pinball machines need to be cleaned inside and maybe some out of order signs for the machines that don't work would be good (lost a couple bucks, since the coin return button didn't work either) but I had a great time.
Great selection of new and old stand-up arcade games.
In town for a quick trip and needed to occupy myself and 16 year old son for a couple of hours. This place was killer. Can't wait to get back and update some high scores. Only complaint is not enough cup holders on the machines. We'll be back for sure.
This place went above and beyond our expectations. Chris the bartender made some incredible cocktails, such as his rosemary honey bourbon cocktail that was just the right amount of herb and sweetness. Our other favorite was the Cucumber smash, that was so refreshing we had to stop ourselves from ordering more than 2. The place had a great vibe and we can't wait to go back and play all the arcade games. What a gem!
A little overly crowded, and a few of the machines took my change. Overall with the shortages they were doing the best they could.
Bit of a dive and it was great. After a long day of driving, a shot and a beer and a pinball machine made everything right.
A great selection of machines, many with very low Replay targets, so you can really play for a long time with very little cash. But sadly a many of the machines had something wrong, missing targets, switches not working or even tilt when plunging. (so it's aa tiny bit frustrating if you're into pinball, and the main reason to drop a star). Pretty sweet opening hours thou.. Bartenders are prob nice enough when you get to know them, but honestly had mixed experiences the two times I went.
Really wanted to love this place but seemed like it was an off day based on past reviews. 90% of the games were $1, even the Galaga and Pac man cabinet in the corner. (Not only in the corner but by the broken dirty bathroom) Many machines said 25 cents or 50 cents where you insert quarters, but were actually $1 to play. Wasn't marked on any of the pinball machines so you figured that out after you already put quarters in. However, the drinks were delicious and well priced. Unique mixed drinks and large se
Great place for kids to enjoy the holiday while their parents shop on Broughton St.
Great place to get alcohol, food, and coffee! Not to mention it's an arcade! Good amount of pinball machines.
Plenty of great arcade games from our childhood were here and also air hockey and a pool table. Decent selection of pinball machines. The staff were extremely friendly and gave great beer recommendations. I also see that they serve coffee which looked good but I didn't try any. Highly recommend this place as you will have a good time.
Very retro fun place. Due to the storm, we weren't able to walk around Savannah so we stopped in the arcade just to get out of our hotel room for a bit. We were not disappointed. The guy at the bar was friendly and it was a nice place to kill some time. I was definitely go back if I'm ever in the area again.
Not bad at all considering you might not find many places with variety of machines & games. Loved variety of pinball machines. Small & kinda cozy. Seems to be an ok hang spot for young folks & older folks who are young at heart. Pool table, air hockey, wide variety of games, some food. & variety of beverages.
Had a lot of fun playing old arcade games and having good beer. Will be back!
This place okay simply put. It can get cramped easily due to layout. Most the games seem to work. Some better than others. I wouldn't suggest this place for pool. Has one table an non of the sticks had tips. Prices are well, they reflect the area. So it can get pricey quickly for food/drinks. Overall, not a bad place, or a great one.
Chris created a very pleasant atmosphere , his customer service skills were very evident being top tier. I had the Pinky Quesadilla and it was phenomenal, the quality was amazing , the size was shareable. I really appreciate these type of experiences because ever since the pandemic people have gotten away from great customer service. Chris was AMAZING. I appreciate your company. Well deserved 10 STARS!
Awesome pinball options, great location! Played a couple nights after dinner in the area. They have pool, other video games, and drinks as well.
Visiting from out of town, Chris and Mag gave the most amazing experience I've received at a bar. Fast service you won't wait over a minute for your drink! First time here I'll definitely be back (: thank you guys so much for an amazing experience and if you're in downtown Savannah make sure you stop by!!!!! The games are fun also, a perfect spot to get your favorite drinks and play games with a snack in your hand (:
Chris is one the best bartenders I have met here in Savannah. He is friendly, funny, and really puts a lot of heart into the cocktails he makes. I highly recommend checking this place out if you want to enjoy a laid back environment with chill people, fun games, and good drinks ??
The Portal Arcade, Caf?, and Bar holds great potential yet lacks in some areas within their operation. First and foremost, I should note that the staff was friendly and quite welcoming, so for me, that's a major plus. However, there were games that weren't working and just ate quarters which for an arcade is a big deal. Furthermore, many of the game controls, such as sticks, buttons, and wheels were sticky or greasy which was an inconvenience. Although, it's nice to see this place catered to vegans from a
The staff are really nice. I really want that made clear. They are awesome, and in no way should they be disappointed in this review. But the crowd that hangs out at this place is terrifying. A guy hovered over me while I was playing pin ball and tried to either buy weed or sell it, I couldn't tell. Which is surprising because he was right up next to my face and his breath was awful. A ton of homeless individuals showed up which wouldn't be an issue if they had left us alone and not caused such trouble in t
Love this place. Yes it feels like a dive (it best possible way); it's really an old school arcade feel with throw back 90?s 2000?s jams, good craft beer and dogs. They even had a vegan dog for my husband.
This bar/arcade feels like hanging out at your best friend?s house... if your best friend had a ton of fun arcade games, delicious food and mixed drinks. The prices are totally fair and the food is simple and great! The place is one of Savannah?s best kept secrets! Come here!
This place was great! Stopped in after a long day of driving; they were one of few places open with food past midnight. The staff were friendly, and the deviled eggs were fun and delicious. Will be visiting again the next time I'm in Savannah
One of my favorite bars in the Savannah downtown area. Games, food, drinks whats not to love....oh yeah, tall boy Tuesdays!! Bartenders are friendly and attentive. Ask for Jeff if he's in there he will take care of you.
Basically a bad experience for sure, the bartender cheated us and said we had to get a drink to play the pool table. We bought a drink and then he said oh got to pay a dollar at the table. He could?ve told us that instead of saying we had to buy a drink to play. Won't be going back at all. Was the older bartender guy who also acted like he didn't want us there.
Really great place! The arcade games are super affordable (everything we tried was either 50 cents or $1). The cranberry mint mojito is legit, and they even have a vegan section on the menu. Highly recommend!
We had to kill some time before meeting up with friends in the area and we stumbled in here. We love hitting pinball bars and arcades so we were delighted to find a pinball machine here we haven't seen anywhere else. It was like a pinball baseball game. Super cool and a ton of fun to play.
This is the only arcade bar of it's kind in the city and for that it gets a few stars. It's definitely not fancy. It's a dive bar for sure but they have a decent selection of old and new arcade games. The prices are what you would expect for a bar downtown. They don't have a great selection of alcohol so don't expect much on that front.
Pinball tables were in great condition but the day I was there they ran out of dollars for change. Made for some awkward transactions. Glad I brought a pocket full of quarters. Couldn't try the food due to the money problems. And they were out of their deviled eggs.
If you like a game room filled with old video games like pin ball and the racing car games then this is the fun room for you!!
First the good: All of the food I tried was very good. The drinks were cheap. The service was good. There is a good selection of old arcade games from the early 2000s to the 1980s. They also have pinball, ski ball, air hockey, and pool. Now for the bad: The games cost $.50-$1/credit. This is pretty high for some games like Ms. Pacman. A few of the game machines have a dollar reader. Many accept quarters only. The night we went, the atm was down, so my wife had to go somewhere else to bring back money. The
Portal is one of the best arcade bars I've ever been to. They have food that is really good and Chris is so hospitable and made sure we were having a great time. Highly recommend. I'll be spending my New Years here.
Didn't eat, didn't drink. We were out of there too quickly unfortunately. $1 a game is a little steep for us. Love the concept and could see why people would enjoy themselves here. Good amount of games
Awesome atmosphere with video games and pinball from the 80's! Breakfast is delicious, and the variety of deviled eggs is fantastic! TheresT also a pool table and Foosball. Reminds me of the malt shop across from my high school growing up!
Air hockey, pin ball, Galaga, AND beer? My inner child is freaking out and my adult self is overwhelmed with nostalgia. Customer service is amazing, bartenders are very friendly, and it always smells amazing because of the food they serve. 10/10 best bar atmosphere in Savannah
This place is AWESOME! The Portal has something for everyone whether they live in Savannah or not. It's a great place for servers and bartenders who don't get off until most of Savannah is shut down for cool drinks and good food. Plus pool, air hockey, and some retro gaming to wind down.
Fun place to hang out. I think the games are a bit over priced which is why I am only giving 4 stars. This is really their loss because we would have stayed longer and drank/ate more if the games were not $1 per play. The staff was nice and the coffee mixed drink we made up was AMAZING!
This place was *fine*. Starting with the good - there are a lot pinball games and a lot of the "classics" - Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga, and even a couple of skeeball machines. The food was surprisingly delicious. Now the "Not so good" - When we ordered a sandwich and a quesadilla my husband asked if there were any sides. We were told "it comes with a side of salsa." $26 for just a sandwich and a quesadilla. There was one buy behind the counter who seemed like he would rather be anywhere else It was SUPER hot in
Cool little arcade. Very small. Games are cheap with some classics. Overall a good place to stop n get a drink then play some games if it isn't busy.
Great idea, but a lot of the games were broken and turned off, the 3 pinball machines we played all issues or broken flipper. The place had an aroma of vomit and really needed a deep clean. We will not be coming back.
Fun games and great music!
Decent drinks (nothing on draft made me kinda sad though). Fun games, but not sure why some games are .50 - $1.00 per game. There was no way to get quarters (machine broken). He food smelled pretty good though.
Amazing! Plentiful in arcade games, pinball machines, drinks and food! Not to mention the pool table, air hockey, and darts! I completely recommend it to anyone looking for fun with friends and/or family, and is touring the beautiful city of Savannah, Georgia, or other cities around it!
I love love this place. Always great service. Even when busy the staff treats you like you are the only one there. The food is amazing and they have even personally made it for me on the holidays . I refuse to spend my money anywhere else because it would be a waste, unless it's the owners other bar The Wormhole! You are missing out if you haven't tried these bars.
This place was recommended by a local bartender and it did not disappoint. It is definitely a hidden gem. The bartender Chris was very friendly and and treated us like locals. The games were fun and the food and drinks were great!
Our experience here was pretty terrible. The location was out right dirty throughout every area that we went. Under some of the pinball machine there were dirty clumps and litter like used up lighters. That wasn't terrible for an arcade, but many of the games were off or malfunctioning. We tried to play one of the first person shooters and the guns were entirely not calibrated to the screen making it a wasted 50 cents. Based on the business and location this place probably has a ton of potential but there i
Not only is this an Arcade it a Bar that serves Food at a great price. I've had their BBQ Chicken sandwich and BBQ Brisket the times I've visited and it was really good. The Crew is very friendly and helpful if you needed help or had a question.
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
