The Original Pinballz Arcade

The Original Pinballz Arcade

Reviews Summary

Pinballz is generally praised for its extensive collection of classic and modern pinball and arcade games, appealing to all ages. Many highlight the friendly staff, nostalgic atmosphere, and fun experiences, though some note inconsistent maintenance and overpriced games. The BYOB policy and occasional policy changes (like weekend pop-up bars) draw mixed reactions. Food is decent but limited, and parking can be challenging. While most reviews are glowing, a few criticize management decisions and upkeep. Overall, it’s a beloved spot for gaming enthusiasts, though some long-time visitors feel it’s declining.

Customer Reviews

This is a good-sized arcade. There are a lot of pinball machines and other video games and ticket games. The place gets a bit warm/hot, though. They have a lot of fans all over the place to help keep it cool. The staff was friendly. I also like that there is a small dining area.

One of a few locations in the Austin area, Pinballz on Research Boulevard is a fun date night or hang out spot focused on vintage and modern gaming accessible to all. When you walk in you're greeted by friendly workers who genuinely seem to care about the place and what they do. The arcade is clean and parking is pretty easy to find with a smallish lot out back. They do have signs warning about break ins but that's a bit of an Austin thing more than it is this location. We opted to buy the $50 amount for ou

This location is a great spot for pinball enthusiasts. They have a little bit of everything, ranging from old arcade cabinets, claw machines, a few ticket/prize gambling games, as well as a pool table and Touch Tunes. Since it's more pinball-oriented, the crowd at this location is more geared towards adults, but there's something for everyone. As far as I've seen, the games are in good condition, but the room with arcade cabinets looks like it's seen better days. I was excited to see they had Typing of the

Awesome place to chill and have fun! They have tons of games (including DDR!), claw machines, bumper cars, mini bowling, and more. We were there for several hours, and the place was pretty clean the whole time (including the bathrooms) and staff were super friendly. Can't wait to come back here again!

Love the old star wars pinball. Found a House of the Dead 4, a game from my childhood. Played real pacman for the first time and a Japanese keyboard Typing of the Dead ?? Overall, a very fun place. The price for a few hours was $20. $1 per game on average.

Absolutely loved this place! My son is Autistic and had a blast!! He even has allergies and the lady was more then happy to check all foods before we ordered. We will 100% be coming back! Also very reasonable priced!

Great spot for pinball; the BYOB is awesome. Pinball games run from $0.75 to $1.25; they use a play card system. The games I played were all working well and the selection is WIDE! Staff was super friendly.

My wife and I stopped in from out of town on Friday Mar 1st. Had a great time. The lady working the front counter was extremely nice about explaining how the card system worked and the layout of the building. We were there for a couple of hours playing pinball and having lunch. You order your food from the front counter and it is delivered there. The menu is very limited but the food was good. There are a lot of pinball machines, I believe around 70. The condition ranged from well worn to new. Overall we

I like when they put new stuff like a pool table and move around things to look better. But they need to hire some women. There's always guys there that be staring there all the time. Some of them are unfriendly and don't seem happy to be there. I want a prize and that's good but the dude who is helping me sucked all the positive energy from the experience. I don't think they work there anymore. There's always different people. Also I think it would be more better if any of the machines were cheaper. That's

My kids had fun here! Staff were very attentive and proactive. They do provide 5% discount. The only thing was that I initially got deals from Groupon but their Go cart deal was only valid for Mon-Thur and it was not explicitly stated and so I had to pay almost double on spot for that reason.

This place was super cool lots of great pinball machines and stand up arcades plus alot of really cool tickets dispensing games. Great to kill some time. And great for kids and parties also they allow service animals.

My two sons loved this place. It was fun. It had a bunch of old school pinball games. It also had a few crane machines, skee ball games, and a lot of other various arcade games. We all enjoyed spending about an hour here. Most games are between $1 and $2.50 a play. They have a small shop where you can trade your points in for a prize. Your kids will really enjoy stopping here.

I have visited here many times over the years. They have a great selection of pinball machines as well as some arcade games. It is a fun place to go to unwind. My most recent visit was during Halloween to check out the costume contest and see all the amazing costumes people had on.

This place has the best gaming and entertainment experience all under one roof! Slick track cars, HUNDREDS of arcade games, billiards, laser tag, escape room, food, drinks and SERIOUSLY one of THE BEST whiskey bars I have ever seen!! There is truly something for EVERYONE here. Staff are polite and friendly. It honestly puts some of those other big gaming places to shame. We had an absolute blast here!!

Went for the first time today and had a really good time! We only played games and pretty much all of the machines were in good working order (only saw one with an out of order sign). Fun games that aren't too expensive each play and actually give you tickets that can be redeemed for a wide range of prizes. So many pinball machines, two guitar hero machines, DDR, and LOTS of coin pusher games. Will definitely be back and will bring friends!

An adult arcade. The new BYOB rules were a bit frustrating. I couldn't remember bar hours. It ended up being closed during my last visit. If I known I could have prepared. When the bar is open we struggle to get service. Always feels like someone is covering and lack general experience. They spent 20 minutes searching for keys to open the beer cooler one day or i had to wait 30 minutes for the register to be accessible. Wish I exaggerated that, but I was generous with the time I waited. Seems like the bar

I brought my kids on a random Thursday and we had a great time. We had a little problem with the food and the staff cleared it up with no fuss. The games are great and I can't wait to go back.

Love Pinballz! I've been going to this original location for years and it just gets better and better with age! Love the vast assortment of pinball machines (old and new), arcade games and just all-around great atmosphere! Great place for kids and adults, people of all ages! ????

They overcharge for their pinball machines. 1.50 per play for Sterns with outdated code is ridiculous. Further there's no free game offer for multiple credits as is the custom in 95% of pinballs across the united states. Maintenance on the pins is sorely lacking. They do just enough to keep the pinball machines running, but not enough to keep them in playable shape. Which is concerning considering they overcharge for everything. Where's it going if not maintenance? For example. Their brand new D&D Tyrant'

Fun place with so many pinball machines and way more retro games, fun fun fun

It's as perfectly dimly lit and slightly dogeared as it was when I first started coming here nearly 14 years ago. It has every childhood classic game - no matter what generation of arcade kid you are. Glaga PAC-Man teenage mutant ninja turtles. And any pinball machine your heart aches to see again.

So many pinball machines, so freaking awesome! Talk about some old school COOL!! Had an absolute blast and really appreciated the courteous and attentive staff.

Great for kids...! Beer for the grown... So awesome....! Has older arcades, brings back memories... 80's

We absolutely loved it!! All the effects in all the games were amazing, the variety of all the games between old and new games was fantastic and the staff was really nice and polite. The game prices are a little high, but we will definitely be back with the rest of the family!!

Went there once, pinball machines were all working with a great selection but the card machine was having issues loading my card when I had visited and one of the employees helped me get it loaded and basically asked me to tip him, which was off-putting, otherwise was nice.

Though not unlimited games, it was easy to load a card and play without coins. Everyone there was happy and helpful, and we enjoyed being able to have an adult beverage while we played. Lots of pinball which is exactly what we wanted, not too crowded and not too loud.

From out of town and showed up to play the pinball machines Dungeons & Dragons and the Simpsons. Bought a card for $5 which you need to play the machines. Found the Simpsons which costs $1 to play (other games were mostly $1.25 - $1.50 that I passed. Very dark atmosphere upstairs to the point that other players brought lights to suction onto the pinball machines they were playing. Simpsons was incredibly not level which made it frustrating to play. Played three games and shots would drain down the middle du

This place is really fun. They have a ton is pinball and arcade games. It's a little expensive so keep that in mind. $100 dollars lasted 3 of us about an hour and a half to two hours.

It's been so long since we went to an Arcade and this is the first Arcade I went to in the US. It's neat and has so many games to choose from. There's also snacks for sale. We liked the VR shooting games the most. One thing is there's not much people and it looks kinda lonely there. We went there on a Wednesday around 7pm maybe that's why.

About a dollar a game, not too bad if you're halfway decent at being an arcade master. Could use more pictures of boats. Lady behind the counter is pretty chill. Just gotta go early before it's overrun with kids.

Always a fun place. I have been coming to Pinballz since early 2014. Retro video games, ticket machines, and of course pinball tables. Updated on 2023, still a great place to play pinball. Pinball a game will run from $ 0.75 to $ 1.25. Not a quarter any more, but I'm not a kid anymore either, so it all goes up, my age and cost of my hobbies.

'twas an excellent arcade! Was the last thing me and some members of my family did before leaving Austin for home. The personnel was very friendly and courteous, the place was super clean, games were priced somewhat fairly and prizes for redemption seemed somewhat universal for arcades. We initially planned on only being there an hour (midnight to 1am) because we had to leave for New Mexico the next morning but we had so much fun we ended up staying until closing time at 2am. Definitely recommend!

What happened to Pinballz?? My son had his 16th bday yesterday- on a school night so looking for an easy way to celebrate him- my adult son showed up and 9 year old daughter too- just us 4. I called in advance to see if I brought a few cupcakes if we could sing happy birthday at the tables. I was told yes- as long as I pay a $25 fee! No thanks! We came anyways cause he was excited and as soon as we walked in- empty arcade and 4 or more employees standing around- I was approached and reminded of our phone

Pretty decent mix of pinball from the 80's, 90's and 2000+ Mostly very well maintained. I've had a few games I've played that have had damage, loose parts, etc., but overall most games are 8/10 to 9/10. Some of them are a little overpriced - most games I played were $1.00 to $1.75 range. I'm not a big fan of the rechargeable card system. Always wind up with a card with a balance, and its not fun keeping track of the funds. Would much rather they charge a play-admission fee like Cidercade does. There was onl

Expensive!! It's pay per play but there are tons of options old and modern. All types of arcade games and pinballs, even some modern stuff as well as some overpriced claw machines. If you have $50+ to spend it's a fun little arcade but the prize options aren't great so I'd recommend sticking with the non redemption games.

What a wonderful hangout! Very all ages welcome. We had a great time at the Classic Game Fest after party. Soooo many games to choose from! Two floors of sheer happiness! I haven't had so much fun in quite some time.

We went to Pinballz with a group of friends tonight and had an absolute blast! The staff was amazing and helped us as we looked for my partners ring, a casualty of the down the clown game. NBD I found it. Then we capped off the night talking with a staff member, Travette. It was a pleasure and she made it such a warm and memorable experience. We will definitely be back!

The new pop-up bars on weekends is awful and goes against one of the main reasons to go to this location: the BYOB policy. They now only allow BYOB Mon-Wed and their bar offerings are garbage. This place continues to go downhill with hour changes and policy changes. ?? Can no longer recommend this place and I've been coming for 8+ years

Love this place. We try to go when we are in Austin. The original one is much smaller than the one to the North about 7 miles. Lots of new and OLD SCHOOL games. Remindes me of being a kid.

Travette and Jesus were incredible! Extremely personable and made my bestie and my date soooo much more better!!

I appreciate all three Pinballz locations but this one is still my favorite because they have so many pinball machines. There are usually about 100 and most of them are generally up and running and any games with issues are usually fixed by the next visit (and I go often). The staff are quick to resolve issues with any games if you bring them to their attention. BYOB, but just one bottle/can in at a time. The parking lot isn't far to retrieve your alcohol.

Played some new pinball tables and FINALLY had the pleasure to try the fabled Frito Pie...THE HYPE IS REAL. This was my 2nd time here! Will visit more often, when time permits...??

This place is awesome! Got kids and grown ups! Lots of pinball games and a variety of themes on them. They have lots of deals for events and couples and parties. For Valentine's day they had a deal for 30$ you get a large pizza, one drink and a 20$ game card. The deals are updated so keep checking before going out. Parking is a hassle tho so might have to come early or drive around a bit before getting a spot. If not take an Uber or Lyft. For sure coming back with my friends again.

Fantastic place for the whole family!! Great and fun environment with a little bit of the old school and new school games. There is everything for the whole family and more. We will definitely be back.

Always enjoy Pinballz. Noise, lights and fun. Lots of great old video games and pinball machines. Newer video games too. Some let you win tickets for prizes.

Very cute, cool place. My husband and kids had a great time. Only a handful if machines were acting up. Overall a great experience at an affordable price.

ADA wheelchair ?accessible with an elevator to take you to the upper floor Very clean and friendly staff. Spent $20.00 for 3 hours of pinball fun. When it's closing time the yank the power so if your mid game...to bad. The only thing that sucked. Inc pics...they do offer sodas and other goodies on the bottom floor.

Helpful friendly staff! (Shaz, thank you, again! Superb games list! Great prize selection! I will definitely be coming back to claim more of those GH spots! Thanks again!

Very cool arcade. Lots of old school pinball machines. Plenty of other arcade games like pac man and house of the dead (1, 3, and 4). Also plenty of ticket games for the kiddos. Great place for the family or awesome date idea.

Loads of new and old pinball and arcade games. This location has no bar, so BYOB. Most games are 3 tokens (75?), some newer titles are more. They have some unique pinball machines like, Hercules the largest pinball, and a 2-3 layer pinball. Fun night out. Great atmosphere and friendly staff!

Lots of games and definitely a place you could have a fun afternoon or evening at. I got the personal pizza and wasn't a huge fan. It wasn't that good, and took a long time to come out. The full size pizza looked much better and tastier.

Old school place ( in a good a bad meaning). Sometimes full of very small kids, running and screaming. But if you happened to go there while not so crowded with kids, you can end up having a really good time.

Had an awesome time. I'm from Dallas so wanted to see the arcade scene in ATown.. we have several awesome joints on DTown. I loved the selection of arcade machines and pins.. wow. Other reviews mention procey.. I have to agree, but they're expensive to keep running. They have a wide range of games from classics to new.

Great classic arcade with so many pinball machines, vintage games and more!

I feel like tike this location is part of the lbtq or whatever it's called. They can't figure out if they want to make money or not. Can't play pool but they have a pool table, they sell outrageously priced drinks that aren't properly served. BYOB one day then not the next. It was the hot spot until the business started changing its identity. Now it's just confused and losing my business.

We have been coming to the original Pinballz for years and it is one of our favorite places in Austin for a date night. It is BYOB and so many amazing arcade games and pinball machines. It feels instantly like stepping back in time. Will always love this place!

This place is Amazing! They cater to both Adults and children. This is me and my son?s favorite place to go to out of all the family fun places we have been to. Two floors of Gaming Machines, Arcades and Pinball Machines. You play game for tickets that when you're done, you get to cash in for a large selection of prizes. Kids are allowed to be there up until 10 pm and then it is adults only. If you are looking for something to do with the kids or you're looking for something different for a date night, I hi

Always a good time! Their game selection is great, always keeping new games coming in and some classic ones as well. Good place to have a bday party as well. Games are reasonably priced to play. This location is byob as well.

Prob cool, but it's was BYOB and you could only have one beer per person. No bar. That's cool, though, we'll save it for a kids trip. Today we are grown ups so we headed to the other location.

It doesn't get more authentic than this. Not a contrived retro attempt, this is the real deal. Very decent selection of vintage and classic pinball tables and some top notch modern one aswell. All were in excellent working order. PLENTY to keep a pinball fan happy and coming back for more. Lots of light gun shooters, big cab multiplayer fighters and a great golden era arcade section. Very friendly and helpful staff. BYOB policy is perfect. Prices are on par with anywhere else. Definitely will be back again.

I was really blown away with all of the differently variety of pinball machines. I probably haven't played pinball in like 15 years. It felt like going back in time. I definitely recommend!

It is sooo good because my kids was playing for 2 hours and got so many prizes it was so good

We had a blast here from. Retro to modern machines! The entire family had such a great time. Next time we are in Austin we will come back and hang out!

This is a great place to bring the family. They have so many arcade machines to choose from. And the place is big enough . It even has a dining area and 2 party rooms available. The gentleman who was at the front desk was super friendly with us and made you feel welcome.

Great way to pass the time! I think this place is perfect for gamers as well as parents wanting to upgrade from. Chucky cheese :) (they have a party room in the back)

I've been a regular customer here for quite some time now and I can honestly say I love this place. The staff and management are always incredibly helpful and go the extra mile to resolve any issues I may encounter. Their dedication to customer satisfaction is truly commendable.

I celebrated my 70th birthday here. I had great time!

Pinballs arcade has a selection of classic pinball machines, older generation video games, new school video games, and an area for games that dispenses tickets,(for those wanting to earn prizes with them). This location is right off the research feeder road, and parking may become a little crowded. If you have trouble finding parking there is a adjacent parking lot next to pinballs that you can use. This location does not serve alcohol but it is a bring your own facility. They do not allow outside containers

I went for my birthday and it was so fun! We were a bit apprehensive at first because on the outside it really does look like some random building, we were wondering if we were at the right place. But inside? WOW. I was genuinely shocked by how many game options they and and it's not even their biggest location! It was really hard how to figure out how to order food or where it was located, so we didn't. But, that really didn't matter. My sister and her friend had such a good time and the prices are great

Great selection of pins. I finally got to play The Mandalorian, but most of their lineup are classic 90s-era pins(which was the best). All were in great shape. Wish they had some coffee options.

What a great arcade spot! We had such a good time!

One of my favorite places to go to with my friends. Has all of the classic pinball machines on the second floor(an incredible amount, too) as well as various other games on the first floor. Always have a great time.

So much fun! Great place for a date, particularly during the day on the weekend. Beware: several of the games will steal your money

Pinball was amazing! The staff was great and friendly. I will be back when come back to Austin.

Had a good time here ! There was a lot of pinballs games, and others as well. I went with friends/family. Most of the games I saw were ranging from the dollar price (1+) Would love though if workers could hourly/whenever they can to tidy up the place regularly if they can throughout the day. I saw (a few not much)customers leaving their trash on the games itself and didn't clean up after themselves. Which sucks for not only other customers, but mean for the workers of this establishment as well !

A place for all ages! I grew up playing pinball on the computer. Brings back memories. They have the many versions of the pinball machines. You will need tokens to use them.

We held our company holiday party here yesterday. Kiko and the staff were super friendly and accommodating! We'll definitely be back.

Great place to vibe with friends. Wish they had better crane machines. The claws barely work which is a bummer for people wanting to actually play them lol. But otherwise great location! Super friendly staff, easy to book events, Bar is AMAZING with their themed drinks. Always a great time!

Had a blast there. They have a ton of the OG games you would want to play. They even have a really immersive one that like blasts air at you and you have 3D glasses and stuff. Took a date there and had a blast. Would recommend to anyone looking to kill some time playing some games.

Spent my birthday here with my dad and step-mom. We were greeted by Marie who helped us out and answered all of our questions, checked in on us any time we were looking around. She really went above and beyond for us. The pizza wasn't anything special but it wasn't bad. Chicken Bites and Fried Pickles were great. Fries were seasoned nicely. Lot's of retro games and pinball machines from throughout the years. A great throwback next to lots of newer games too. Absolutely a birthday I won't forget. I can't w

so much fun, a lot of classic arcade games, the prizes were diverse as well, very nostalgic!! ??

I have a Love Tester machine that I've been lovin? on for about 15 years. Well my buddy jammed it. A friend had referred me to Pinballz to fix it. To my surprise, I didn't realize they fix machines. The times I've spent there hanging out with friends and playing our favorite games have been great times too!! I'm stoked to get this machine up and running again. Special thanks to Wes and Josh for your detailed expertise, friendly customer service, very knowledgeable and also super cool people to work with. It

A most awesome way to spend your time....playing vintage video games and rocking in pinball heaven! The hours go by in a blur of electronic ecstasy.....this place rules!!!

This is a fun place to come. They have a massive amount of pinball machines to choose from with some awesome themes from all eras. There is truly something for everyone as far as pinball machines. They also have the usual shooting arcade games and DDR as well as those addicting games where you throw tokens in in an attempt to get more tokens pushed out. They also server food and drinks for when you get hungry and the greatest part is you can BYOB. It does get very crowded here on Friday and Saturday nights

Whether you're a fan of old school or new school games these guys got you covered. I love pinball and there's an entire floor dedicated to it with what must have been 50 machines. Most are $.75 to play (3 tokens). There are newer games but that does not seem to be their concentration, instead focusing on pinball as their name would suggest. I didn't even play the newer games. The line was to long and they were expensive. If you can play pinball for hours then this place is worth a visit. I was there on a Fr

Pinballz is a hidden gem everyone should visit! We visit from HTX occasionally. This place has an amazing variety of games for all ages, it's the perfect spot for a fun night out. From classic pinball machines to modern video games, there's something for everyone. The lively and welcoming atmosphere sets it apart from typical arcades. It's a must-visit for creating unforgettable memories. Highly recommended!

The best arcade experience I've had in Austin. Great selection of games that are well maintained (setting them apart from places like Cidercade) and the staff is great. I do wish they would move to a flat fee/free play model, at least for the non-redemption games. As a customer, this is a much better experience than the recharge cards and wide-ranging, arbitrary pricing on the games.

Great family friendly place. Adults as well as kids can have a lot of fun for pretty cheap!

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are pinball tables still good in this modern age?

Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds.
