Machine Shed in Rochester is such an underrated gem for gamers! It's the perfect place to find nostalgic Nintendo 64 games (which I absolutely love) and a huge variety of other game sets. They also have a great selection of fun figures that my daughter really enjoyed exploring. One of the coolest things about this shop is their vintage game section, where you can play classic games for an hourly rate?such a fun experience! Whether you're looking for a unique date idea or just want to support a great local
I LOVED this place. It gave us hours of entertainment and it brought me back to my childhood with all the fun arcade games! It would be fun by yourself or with friends. It was only $10 for a day pass and it was well worth it! I will definitely be coming back to enjoy all the games ?? Thank you for giving us a safe place, to enjoy such timeless games!
Legit 100% store for your gaming and figure collecting needs. They have so much awesome stuff and for good prices that are cheaper than NerdinOut. Masters of the Universe all waves and series. GI JOE Thundercats Star Wars Mcfarlane Toys DC/Diablo/etc Wrestling Collections The guys running the show are awesome. Soon, there will be an addition next door for their action figures.
Great selection of retro style arcade games. Super fun! They also sell a lot of used console games & systems & controllers. Along with a room of fan memorabilia. Love this place!
A great place to find almost any game you are looking for. The arcade is a blast and the staff is very knowledgeable. We will definitely be back.
This location is so nostalgic! Took my teen son to hang out and kill some time and we had a blast! Lots of two player games! I love the flat fee aspect over tokens or quarters! I could have let my son play games and I could have looked through all the games and gaming systems all day!
Best place in town to get your retro video game fix or buy some retro games and so many cool things to pick up. Amazing selection. One place in Rochester you don't want to miss!
Rochester is so lucky to have this place, don't get to stop as often as I would like but when I do it's always a great time. Made a special trip a couple of weeks ago to specifically play in the arcade and had a blast. Give the arcade a try, the retro games selection is amazing, even had some light gun games I didn't know existed. Look forward to stopping again soon! You can bet I'll be bringing this place up at 2d-con in August.
I found The Machine Shed by Googling fun things to do in Rochester. I brought my kids there and paid $10/person to play in the old school arcade. We had a blast and stayed for two hours. There is a big variety of games available, something for everyone! They also have a huge variety of old/classic video games in their store. My kids enjoyed looking around at everything in the store too. If we are ever in Rochester again we would definitely go again, and I recommend The Machine Shed to anyone looking for a f
10/10 would recommend this place to anybody. The owner is the nicest & coolest guy in the business. Every time I visit, he gives GREAT recommendations and is super knowledgeable. Whether it's a DS, or just a few video games he'll take the time to make sure you get what you need. If I could rate more than 5 stars I absolutely would.
Tons of retro games?that's what I was there for?but nothing is priced. You have to bring the games you find to the counter to the kid who rings you up. He hardly told me the price per game?just gave me the total. Really weird system. I would have purchased more had I known what the prices were.
What a neat place! I was in town for a conference and checked this place out. Tons of great games and vintage media! By far Machine Shed has some of the best selection for a wide assortment of media types. They also have such a cool setup with awesome displays and odes to the past. I didn't have time to check out the arcade, but I'm sure it's cool! The staff were very helpful and friendly and even showed me some neat things they had just gotten in. Shout out to the team for doing my GameBoy Color screen mod
We went to play arcades all day for 10$. We had a blast. Some of the machines needed some fixes but we were able to play. We found this shop has more than arcades it is full of video games and other collectibles for this who love all types of games.
My friends and I were absolutely amazed when we visited the machine shed. From their incredible selection of Funko Pops displayed on the wall to their extensive video game collection and even a retro arcade garage, the atmosphere was fantastic, and the staff were terrific. It's mind-blowing to think about how much they had to offer. I will definitely be returning without a doubt. Oh, and thank you for the spawn action figure! My friends also loved their figures. I give this place a perfect 10 out of 10 and
What an awesome shop with a great owner could talk with him all day they have arcade in back you can play as long as you want for 10 bucks vintage video games and the best prices I've ever seen on Gundam and robotech models and make sure you check out the vintage toy store right next door
First and foremost I highly recommend The Machine Shed for their extraordinary customer service and excellent selection of video games and systems. I visited The Machine Shed from out of town during a trip with family to Rochester. I came in to look for some specific games and systems and was helped by James. James helped me find some of the games I was looking for and gave me some recommendations based on my selections. I was also looking for a rare handheld system and James let me know he had some in
Wish there was more places like this love the variety of old arcade games and the game counsels you can play. $10.00 all day what a bargain! They even offer VR! Love pinball kind of wish the games had sound a lot don't! The projector with the 80's pop jams is a nice touch. Some of the games are broke and don't function the greatest all the time.. The people that work there are cool and kids 7 and under are free! If you have kids you can't beat that!
Nice selection of arcade games and pinball, 10 bucks all day play great price.
Owner is hilarious and very friendly. Welcoming space with a very large selection of all things ?video game?
Best video game store in Rochester, MN! I've stopped in quite a few times over the course of a couple years and every time the workers have been friendly and knowledgeable. I recently took my PS3 in to get it jailbroken and everything works great. Definitely worth checking out.
Came in tonight for the first time for a ps2 hdmi converter and Brandon helped me and was very kind. He asked me helpful questions to make sure it was what i was looking for to fix my problem. Top notch customer service. Will definitely be back.
I love going here, but when i recently brought 2 controllers for repair and was told within days "they are roach infested" (we have no roaches in the house, its probably a different bug), refused to repair but only shows us ONE of the two controls opened up and only the open face of the battery. While I may shop here for retro games i may have to look elsewhere for repairs now as im dubious on laziness. Its unfortunenly as I have brought many peripherals for repair and have had 0 issue in the past.
The Machine Shed is great. Brought my son here tonight. He may be a little young to play most of the games at 4 but he had a blast running around. I probably had more fun then he did. Pricing is very reasonable at $10 to get in per person and you can play as long as you want and as many games as you want.(very cheap fun for the 2-2.5 hours we were there. I highly recommend this place. They even have old movie videos blasting on the projector as you are playing.
Good place to kill a few hours. Smaller than was expected. Decent price for unlimited games. Kids 7 and 16 had fun. They also sell video games and accessories for all systems.
I enjoy going in and looking through the old/new games that you can purchase right away before going and getting into the action of playing the arcade games. I took my daughter and her friend there today and was told they charge a additional $5.00 fee for the VR in the back. Its 10 dollars to play the games already so charging for that seems kinda ridiculous honestly.
Stopped in for lunch. It was pretty busy, but the service was great. Had raspberry tea amazing onion strings for an appetizer. The meatloaf platter was also really good.
Doesn't look like much from the outside, but there's a wealth of games on the inside. It's a little dark and crowded. The owner is incredibly knowledged on games. The arcade cabinets in there can have over 1,000 games on them! ?? #NatsJourneys #Recommended
awesome vintage and new video game shop that has a great selection of arcade games in the back!
I stopped in there recently with my son to check it out. The staff that we encountered seemed friendly enough, but the place has a pretty unmaintained look about it. The first room you walk in when you get there is the best looking one, but it is VERY cluttered, but it does look somewhat professional other than the clutter. The middle room looks like some back room that is disorganized and full of clutter. The room with the arcade games in it looked like a back room to a back room that was given up on s
The employees here don't know how to treat a customer right .I think ?? all Pokemon cards should be worth some Money ??
Awesome place! Stopped in here on a trip to Mayo Clinic with my 9 year old daughter who loves all things retro. The place is bursting at the seams with the coolest items and the staff (could have been owner?) was so incredibly friendly, helpful and funny! Thanks for the great visit!
I have never had a bad experience with service. The staff are extremely friendly and the atmosphere here is always very laid back. They are a five star company in that regard. However, the maintenance of the arcade has been disappointing lately. I visited months back, Star Wars Trilogy was broken, joystick wouldn't work in one corner of the screen. Several other machines are down but I don't remember specifics. Reported it, staff were appreciative, and I just kind of put off coming back for awhile.
We had a birthday party and had a great time. Think the grown ups played more games than the kids ??. We had the upstairs private room which was ready with everything you would need for a party. I would highly recommend doing kiddos bday parties here! Staff was friendly and treated us all like we were regulars and like friends from way back.
This place is a great I'd love for it to be a hidden Gem in Rochester but it truly provides fun for all ages.
"If you're not going to buy anything, dont bother." -retrogame side guy I was really looking forward to visiting this store with my family and friends from Oregon to support a local business. However, when we asked for assistance, we were told that we couldn't examine a Gameboy console unless we were ready to buy it. We felt that the customer service from the person at the game counter was lacking, so we decided to leave without spending any more time there. Improving customer service could help attract re
Cool store with a lot to look at! They have lots of figures, games, movies, and more! Really awesome arcade for $10/person. This was the big draw for us There is a lot packed into the small space, so that may be overwhelming, but it's lots of fun to see what treasures you can find. Employees were very welcoming. Plenty of parking nearby.
Wow, after completing 4 weeks of radiation/ chemo my husband is living life at about a 4.5. After we spent over 2 hrs here today , he's about an 8!! This place is exactly where we want to be . I played Ms Pac-Man until I got the high score ?? and Curt was a pinball wizard ?? the guys here are amazing ! The shelves are full of your wildest video game dreams !! We got a punchcard and we're coming back !! We love you guys ??
One of our favorite stores in Rochester! They have an assortment of crazy cool retro games, consoles, and computers with very good prices. You can find all sorts of collectibles in great condition and pretty much any fun stuff they happened to have received during the day. The staff is super knowledgeable about all things retro video games and we always love chatting with them! The arcade looks like a ton of fun as well. Definitely recommend ??
What an amazing place, customer service made this place extremely remarkable. The throw backs of all the arcade games, toys and videogames really made me relive my childhood. My 10 yr old son was just as into as my husband and I were. He ended up leaving with a transformer toy, a 2 headed toy dragon from the 80s and a baby Godzilla magic card that he had carried around the rest of the day and said it was his most favorite day ever!!! This place made my son's week. THANK YOU!!
This is a really cool place, i wish i lived close so i could come here all the time. $10 gets you unlimited play time on all kinds of excellent machines. They have enough to keep someone entertained for hours, $10 feels like a bargain. Definitely check this place out if you're a fan of arcades.
Great little arcade and nerd store. Found some vintage Stargate figures that I was so stoked about, the place was jam-packed which I loved and I liked that it was divided into sections, like toys in one bit, game in the next, then the arcade in the next. The owner was really nice too and nerded out about Stargate with me.
Went looking for something to do to keep busy. Really was nervous about going when looking from the outside. However, once you get it is a really enjoyable time. Got to play many different games and the time flew. It was well priced as it was only $10 dollar for all you could play! I will be back.
A retro-gamers paradise. Classic games at fair market prices. They have a huge inventory to browse. James is super friendly and easy to work with for console repairs.
Awesome shop and owner. One of the few places I am ok with leaving money on the table to support a small business. Game On!
Someone had to of been having a cigarette that day I tried to go. The door isn't hard to open harder to close. I was having a bad day, unfortunately. I know the door was locked. Been in there since, really nice place. I change my review. Few reasons the people that work there are cool. Ready to explain any questions. Really cool older toys and games. They have just about any and every system that was ever made.
Went to machine shed to buy a couple of things for my brother's birthday. Tried to negotiate a small bundle price and Dillion was extremely rude and was unwilling to work with us. Started raising his voice at us and was just very upset throughout the interaction. Dissapoiting experience definitely will not be coming back.
I've been wanting to go here for a while, so when the opportunity arose I took it. The arcade is very reminiscent of my childhood, offering mostly older classic games. The staff were very helpful in getting the few "off" machines back on and ready for playing. The selection and variety of games seems perfectly adequate for spending many hours here. My only desire (for non-COVID times) would be a pocket full of tokens I could plunk in the machine. It's the only tactile experience missing from an otherwise gr
Cool place. Love the feel. Super friendly people. Sooo many games.
Has pinball and some older games. Most of them are playable, but nothing is in great shape. Fun place overall.
Kids love this place. Retro games from the 80's to 2000's. Love the fact that you can show up and just have fun for an hour. How can someone go wrong with Ms.Pacman?
Staff was super nice and helpful, great selection of retro games and consoles! Had fun going through everything and found a few snes carts and VHS tapes to take home. Prices were really fair and they showed me the board before buying, even did a good cleaning while the cart was open. Definitely will be stopping by any time I'm in Rochester!
The staff is great here. They have so many games it is amazing! I could not believe how much they had for even the older systems like Atari and NES. I am both a classic and new age gamer, and I can say that they have plenty of options for both. Highly recommend this place. I wish we had more stores like this one!
I called to get a quote for a Nintendo switch, and some guy answered, he explained to me that one of their store policies don't let them give a quote through the phone without visibly seeing the item due to past experiences. That's very fair for liability reasons, understanding. I did proceed to ask for a rough estimate on a new, used, or even bad Nintendo switch console and before I could even finish speaking he rudely spoke over me very angrily and didn't even try to hear me out. He totally disregarded wh
I recently visited this shop to trade in my New ps5 Controller and game and I was only given $20 total for a $70 Controller and $60 game kind of unfair in my opinion Also they weren't used I never opened the game the controller has never been paired to a console (I couldn't figure out how to pair 3 lol)
A great place to get lost in nostalgia for a few hours. They have a bunch of arcade machines ranging from the early classics to modern racers. Several multicades including one that is set up for four player action. Come alone, bring a friend, or even talk with them about private parties. This place is a blast. Pay at the door and play whatever you want until you're ready to go home.
Awesome experience! As other reviews stated, the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and available to answer questions. We had a group of 6 guys 30-40 yrs old and all had a great time. Shooting games nostalgia for sure. Looking forward to the possibility of Halo 1 on the big screen.
Best game store I have ever been too. Wide selection and very nice/helpful staff. I just wanted to add this here, thank you for the amazing deal on the copy of rhythm heaven fever, I really appreciate it. I think everyone should go here.
Staff is awesome/ knowledgeable, and the prices are very fair! Every old school game store up in the cities, doesn't come close pricewise! They honor their returns plus their arcade rocks. I recommend anyone to come checkout/ support this GREAT locally owned franchise!
The Machine Shed is an awesome place. The staff is great, and James the owner is super positive and enthusiastic about gaming. We first found the shed when we were looking for arcade game rentals for our wedding reception. James was very helpful, and the games we rented were very affordable. Our guests loved the experience! Since the wedding, we have enjoyed going to the shed and playing some games and catching up with James. Don't be afraid to ask the staff questions or request games, they are always acc
Friendly staff. Nice clean place with EVERY game for what seemed like every console ever.. we used their arcade ($10/per person) and u get to play to your hearts content... Well worth it!
Great arcade. Spent hours playing Bubble Bobble, Street Fighter 2, Qix, and tons of others. If you love old arcade games you will enjoy an evening spent here. They set an awesome 80's atmosphere as well with music projected up on the walls above the arcade machines. All machines seemed to be in excellent condition. They also have a nice selection of retro game cartridges to buy. Highly recommended. The arcade in my town back home closed over 10 years ago so it's really something special to get that feeling
Vintage video games Gundams Global Tech model kits all kinds of other fun stuff fantastic owner stop by if you're in the area
I understand there's not a lot of money in retro gaming, especially in a smallish place like Rochester, but when we visited, the store was really dirty and cluttered. It just looked and felt unprofessional. The store is super small and kinda sketchy. It desperately needs to be cleaned up and organized. It was hard to sort through the mountains of old games that were in no particular order, and the used consoles were stacked in piles. I gave the store an extra 1-star because the guy at the counter was great
Love this place. I remember when it used to be in the Apache Mall 20+ years ago. Nostalgic in every sense for me. I took my 7 year old son here a few years ago and we played for hours on some old retro stand up machines he never even new existed! We talked about the evolution of video games and how all of it was my generation or earlier (Atari 2600 style!) It was super fun! The flat rate fee to play anything and everything was simply a no brainer and so glad the owner kept it this way.(unless it's chan
This a is great place for a lot of fun for a very reasonable price! Love sharing all the games with my kids I used to play at their age. Highly recommend this place for the kids of all ages. Great atmosphere. If you go and don't have fun and find some kind of nostalgia there's only one person to blame.
By far the best deal for gaming arcades in Rochester! If you have your own consoles at home it is worth scanning their shelves and you can buy their big arcade box's too! They have tons of cool retro items besides games as well. The staff is extremely chill and they have Virtual Reality! Just pay one time and you can game all day! If your gaming console or remotes act up they will fix them or replace them at a reasonable price as well! By far the best arcade around! Kids are free too! If you remember how th
When my family first visited Rochester three years ago, before actually moving here, we stopped by this place at night. It was a crowded little room full of old arcade machines and retro decorations, and it was amazing. My little nerd heart was soaring. Along with the pass to play games, they also offer beverages and snacks up front, making it a perfect place for teens to hang out for while. I've been back since to get help with our Wii and XBox 360, and they were knowledgeable and helpful with both (altho
The staff there are very knowledgeable and you can tell they have passion for this. Extremely helpful and friendly. The place is filled with cool stuff everywhere. I Highly recommend checking it out.
Eh, updated review* Okay, let me be straight, it is cool and has its perks. If you want to bring your kid there and have them experience arcades and retro games, go for it. However, from my point of view, this place is not wonderful. The pros 1) arcade cabinets 2) can buy games 3) idk location is neat The cons 1) Bathroom is a plywood closet near the entrance 2) Cramped 3) Location is in sketchy area of Rochester 4) Owner is sneaky and disrespectful at times 5) Building is definitely not up to code 6) Ba
I feel like I received a very fair deal selling my Wii Guitar Hero. Also had help sorting through my comic books.
We went there for very specific old game parts and they knew EXACTLY what we needed and got them right away! The young man working was so kind and knowledgeable-we will ONLY shop old games and parts from these guys from now on!
Super great staff. Very helpful and knowledgeable. They have an incredible selection of old and vintage consoles and games. Will tear apart and fix just about anything it appears. Love this store, I highly recommend to anyone looking for new or old games or someone trying to get an old system back up and running
I love this place. I'm a 43 year old game geek. Machine Shed has been here for awhile but I just went in my first time yesterday. What a treat. Friendly greetings from staff. And the environment had my head flooded with fantastic memories from my childhood. Cool place to loose yourself for a couple hours. I plan on being a regular.
I'm a regular here, but I come for the retro home console games, not the arcade games as much. Very welcoming staff, knows their stuff, can do harder hardware fixes the average Joe may not want to do. When there is a small time retro game store supporting it is a must, and this is one of the best ones in the area.
Didn't fix my son ps5 very disappointed payed $270 for nothing now not a good recommendation
This place was a fun place to go to for a date night with my wife. Me and my wife went here on a Friday night in January and there was about ten to fifteen other people there. There are plenty of varieties of games to play which made it very fun for us. They had pop, candy, and pizza for refreshments and they sold old video games and consoles. For $10 you get a good amount of arcade gaming options and they'll even hookup consoles to play on a TV. Would suggest to all for a fun night out!
Awesome experiance. Had a lunch special for cheap games. A little hard to find but the owner said that new signs are coming that will make it easier for sure. Great customer service. Guys were super friendly showing me around and helping me find games. Will be defiantly coming back for sure.
Took my husband here for his birthday last night. It was definitely one of the coolest places I've been to in a long time. We bought SNES games at a decent price. The guys at the counter were awesome, helpful, and went above and beyond anything I ever expected. They had a bunch of old systems hooked up so that you could play and try the games out. They had a little arcade in the back which was super cool. The prices were pretty great for the games we did buy. We are also going to do future business with the
Place is really messy. At times the employees don't seem interested in talking to you about their products. I went a few months ago and when I was trying to ask questions about a Ps Vita, the guy didn't even look up or anything. He just talked and he worked on whatever he was doing. Games are decently priced but consoles and handhelds are way over priced. I got a 3DS bundle at Hidden Gem for about 80 dollars less then then what they had a 3DS system with no games for.
Good variety of games to play. All day play for only $10 and you can leave to get some food and whatnot. They also have like any game you could need.
Lame. Went to the arcade about 10 minutes after opening, looking to kill some time away from the hospital, and they said they wouldn't turn any games on unless there were at least two people. Super glad I took the time to go to their place specifically, then pay to park, only to be told that my business wasn't worth their time. Sounds like instead of turning customers away and leaving them angry and disappointed, this place needs to either up the charge per person, or at the very least make people aware th
The best place to get most any electronic fixed and find classic games at great prices. If you're a collector or just someone trying to find that old SNES game you had as a kid, this is your place. The owner is the best, and will give you honest answers and estimates for your items. Definitely find them on Facebook to keep up with the new stuff that comes in.
Love this place! The arcade is great and their figure collection is awesome, Just found Marvel's Black Knight for a good deal! Check them out if you're a collector or gamer.
Cleaned my NES, Intellivision, and Intellivoice. I also purchased some Wii controllers - a couple of which had some issues. They replaced them even after a few months had passed. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Lots of older games to dig through. It is great to have a retro game store like this in town.
I completely change my rating, not sure if the management or ownership changed or what but, the manager was just plain out rude and disrespectful when I asked a simple question about a game. I used to go to this place all the time but now it doesn't seem worth going and I'd reccomend just ordering retro games online
Stellar video game store. Arcade selection is fun, and you will always find something great to bring home and enjoy. Family friendly atmosphere, and well educated staff ready to answer questions.
Awesome locale with dozens of old school machines and a few newer machines running emulators with hundreds of games. Projectors playing 80s music solidifies the great vibe. I'm so glad that Rochester has an arcade once more! It's a flat fee to play so the earlier you get there the better. Also it's kind of hard to find, so make sure to keep a keen eye.
This is the neatest place! The guys working it are super friendly and helpful. They have a HUGE selection of older console games, all priced fair. They have a returning customer with me, highly recommend!!!
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds. Though less common than video games, pinball’s tactile charm and community vibe make it a standout arcade experience in 2025.
Absolutely, retro games in arcades remain a thrilling draw in 2025! Classics like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Street Fighter II offer simple yet addictive gameplay, blending nostalgia with timeless challenge. Modern arcade cabinets often feature crisp displays and restored controls, enhancing the experience. These games thrive on quick reflexes and strategy, with vibrant pixel art and iconic soundtracks that spark joy. Arcades host tournaments and leaderboards, fostering a lively community. While modern games dominate, retro titles provide a unique, accessible thrill that keeps arcades buzzing.
Yes, rhythm games in arcades are a vibrant hit in 2025! Titles like Dance Dance Revolution and Beatmania deliver high-energy fun, blending music, movement, and precision. Modern machines boast vivid displays, booming sound systems, and diverse song libraries, from J-pop to EDM. They challenge reflexes and rhythm, with competitive leaderboards and tournaments fostering a lively community. Arcade dance floors are regularly packed, proving rhythm games’ immersive, physical thrill keeps them a standout in today’s gaming scene.
