Customer Reviews

Fun stop! Had a little bit of everything and very reasonable prices. The cashier was attentive and chill. Place smelled so good- this matters when I join my husband in a game store ??. The arcade is a fun idea.

the young man at the counter was incredibly kind and helpful. he truly has a passion for games and it shows! i even managed to find a copy of an old game i loved as a kid. there's also an arcade area but i didn't get to play, super neat little place!

The Gaming Zone was incredible! We had a birthday party here and it is the best idea we've ever had. The gaming room was reserved for us. My kid was able to play video games with friends for three hours. They were so accommodating to our group and checked in every so often to make sure all was well. The two guys were so kind! Every parent was super excited to play games as well. I even got in a game of DDR with my friend! Can't wait to come back. ??

It's great the PHX metro has a lot of good retro shops. The Gaming Zones are one of the best. Staff at all locations are great. Hiring and keeping the right staff is not easy. Somehow they figured it out

Absolutely disgusted with this place Asked dude if there was public bathrooms. He said no only for the tournament people because they pay. ($10 per entry to the tournament ) As I'm paying $50+ for funkos and PS5 game, 5 people's fees. Well that's $2000+ a year of business they lost of me. I guess their tournament players are more important than paying customers

The people here are a great talk and their arcade is neat if you're looking to hunker down for a good time. However their actual video game stock is somewhat lacking and they charge way over market value for most of what they do have.

Not only is this place my GO 2 for selling older GAMES but for GAMES periods!!!! The Staff Rock sorry about this only person name know really is Tommy???? Lol ?? But jokes aside everyone in there ??!! Keep up the good work!! Sorry I don't really post or write reviews. But you guys definitely deserve it!!!

I stopped in just to look around and was happy with the selection in the store. All around very good vibes. Tommy was very friendly and helpful! Will be returning!

I have to say I wouldn't even give them a one star but I had to to get to write a review I put $30 to play on with this place and why not to 360 but I asked to cash out they wouldn't cash me out they would not even respond to me so I played it down to 2:45 they still wouldn't respond to me and when I said I was going to let leave my review on there they decided to respond to me and act like that I never asked to cash out well I had 2:45 on my account cuz I just got off of it and I get I get back on messenge

Rented their arcade for three hours for a birthday party. They had the best price compared to other arcades, they replied to messages very quickly, and they were so helpful and supportive in planning the party. Would recommend having your party here, had a great experience :)

First time visiting, and I must say I was amazed the salesman. Tommy provided excellent service with well knowledge of gaming systems and accessories. I look forward to doing more business with them. Thank you.

This place is so much fun to go to! Highly recommend if you like old school games or arcades ??

Tommy is so kind and welcoming! We stopped in to spend some time before a concert, and he was more than willing to engage with us. We were impressed with the retro games and consoles!

I had been calling every Retro Game store for a few weeks for a specific game with no luck. Ended up calling The Gaming Zone in Tempe and was helped by Chris, who told me they did have it and would hold it for me. He was very friendly, helpful and really did me a huge favor putting the game on hold. The game is a Christmas gift for my son and the #1 thing he wanted, so I was thrilled to finally get it. The store itself is awesome, with a good selection of retro and new games, and they also have a room with

One of my new favorite places. Better than GameStop, zia, bookman's, and well.... Everywhere else. This store takes pride in what they do. I love that they honor retro games and consoles as if they were still current and new. And gamers of all ages are welcome. The guys there are honest, and genuine in their interests into the game world and the place truly feels like a home. Their arcade lounge is the best I've come across, and have already been back more than once. Honestly I'd pay extra for a monthly m

The Gaming Zone is one of those rare places that combines old school mom and pop family feel business with knowledgeable experts and a first rate set up. They make their own 64 controllers with more durable parts. A no brainier of a first purchase. Great place! My wife bought a couple x box games at a very reasonable price and now she's eyeing a PS2 console they have for sale their too...

I came to the store with my family for the first time today to get some cool retro stuff(I got a ps2 and 2 controllers), and the whole selection of games and consoles is amazing, everywhere you look is something you want and all for a reasonable and fair price! Also While making my purchase a gentleman who works there named Jay was such a great guy, he was informing me on how to set up the console and HDMI stuff for the console, recommending things I should do and just being a cool guy and very helpful. Ove

My son's (20 and 24) love the old school games here. I went with them a few times, not to play, but mostly for the nostalgia of the older arcade game feel. Great place for the younger people and also for us older people that miss growing up. A lot quieter than many other places as well. Parking lot is a bit complicated...small with many businesses and not a lot of space

I was visiting from CT and my original plans got cancelled and had nothing to do all day. I came across this little retro gaming store call the The Gaming Zone and figured I just walk through. Tommy at the front desk helped me pick out a new switch game. He was super knowledgable and polite and provided a great experience. I had no idea they had a gaming room with every modern console you could imagine. Honestly am super pleased I decided to stop here to spend my free day. Would recommend to anyone in the a

So yesterday, I saw they posted some games on their facebook and instagram page. I go in store to inquire and even referred to the post. The dude working there was rude and was telling me he doesn't know what I am talking about and they never had those games. And I say he was rude because of his tone and mannerisms towards me. I was confused by the response because they literally just posted the games they received 30 minutes prior. I would have accepted, ?hey I am sorry, but we haven't processed those game

My favorite store! Jorge was very helpful and you can tell he is very passionate and knowledgeable about all things games. 100% recommended

The store has a cool selection of rare games and can be fun to visit even if you don't buy anything. I never used it, but it's cool that they have a full arcade attached. That said, I've bought several games from this store and about half of them have been broken beyond recovery. They definitely don't test these games, and considering I usually go for well-priced finds, I can't help but suspect that they know many of these games don't work and are purposefully giving them better prices just to get them out

The Best Gaming store that I've ever been to! They have everything from classics to current games! They also have a game room that can be rented for events or just spur of the moment gaming! They are the best!

Good selection of games. My only complaint is that everything was quites expensive.

Cool set up. Half of it is a store with cool selection of new/used games and collectibles and the other half is a small arcade. $8 for an hour per person, not bad in my opinion. Cool selection of games. The store had some really cool stuff. Definitely worth a look if your into older video games.

For some reason it says I visited this place yesterday but the visit was today 6-20-19 & I love this place "The Gaming Zone" for all my retro games and accessories. I purchased this for my GameCube today. Love this game.

A strong supporting pillar for AZ?s fighting game community. Monthly brackets, lots of retro cabinets in good condition, some bonus miscellaneous games, it's always a good time to pop in on Friday night to play games. Hoping to come back soon

This place has the worst prices in the city, everything is overpriced, you get lowball offers on trade ins. The owners of this place are greedy as hell. Go to Fallout games if you want your monies worth. Also these people cant take any criticism they block you on social media if you say anything remotely negative about their business, DONT SHOP HERE!

Best fun i had, took some friends and only spent $10 on an all day pass on Friday. The guy behind the counter was amazing and super helpful, I cant wait to return.

The Gaming Zone is the B E S T and most U N I Q U E retro gaming store I have ever been to! Not only do they have the greatest deals on video games, they also have an arcade with 25 different retro play stations! Aside from video games, The Gaming Zone in Tempe excels in customer service; Alejandro, George, Jacob, Tommy, and Louis are the most personable and friendly people I've had the pleasure of meeting. The Gaming Zone takes pride in the community and hosts Super Smash Bro tournaments every Tuesday and

A step back in time AND all that's new in gaming! Huge selection of classic and new games! To see all the original consoles brought me right back to when it all began. The owner has done an incredible job of collecting, screening, and displaying everything! The additional side room where one can sit down and play some of these games is a real bonus! Check it out!!

This place is great for retro games, good selection good prices, and some movies ! This place also has flat rate arcade, play all you want, they've got a ddr machine and it's a lot of fun! Highly recommend for retro game collectors or someone who wants to enjoy arcade games for a bargain . I think it's less than 15$ to play all day and less than 5 for 1 hour .

This place is awesome with its weekly and monthly events and get togethers, and now with 2 stores, there's even more inventory to check out. Staff is always friendly and the owners are pretty cool. Prices are very fair and reasonable and so is their trade offers. One of the few places that has arcade machines, the selection is a decent size but all topnotch games in the arcade room. Overall a great experience every visit

One of the best retro gaming stores I've ever seen. Clean organized with great friendly customer service. The library of game they have is amazing. Think of it like the Disneyland of video games. So many great titles to choose from plus they have a awesome arcade room that will remind you of how awesome arcades we're back in the mid 90?s. If your in town, you deserve to threat yourself to this gem ?? of a store.

This was my first visit. The people at The Gaming Zone are really nice!! I brought in some older games to trade in. I felt I received a fair estimate for cash / trade-in. It's fun to check out all the classic games and systems. They have a great selection of games! I also checked out the awesome arcade. I had a great time! My favorite arcade game there was X-Men vs. Street Fighter.

Came here on a whim and was not disappointed. The staff are friendly and engaging. At no point did I feel like I was being rushed out or felt like I didn't belong. Something for everyone whether it be retro, rare or plain ol' fun.

Awesome little game store with games for nearly every console. They also have an arcade with a good lineup of games and now the occasional tournament. Highly recommend checking the place out if you're a gamer!

Stopped in to get a powercord I had looked everywhere for my brother's gamecube and was suggested to go here and was amazed at all they have retro, new, and tournament nights. I was able to easy find and purchase what I needed thanks to their Frontline man/cashier.

Fairly decent store. I like the staff, friendly knowledgeable bunch, willing to chat with you and share their knowledge on games of all types. Ok selection of games, very nice layout. My only feedback is they need to be more flexible on prices. They wouldn't even consider eBay trends and tend to price things higher than even the gaming online list price especially for popular titles. This why I'm sticking to 1Up games and Fallout games which is expanding (which makes sense because they work deals with you).

This place is awesome! They have a super cool section in the back that has a wide variety of unlimited-play arcade games you can play for $10! I love this place. We always come here to play retro games and have a blast every time! The owners are so friendly and nice! The staffs are always going above and beyond to help.

When I'm looking for video games there is where I go. No exceptions. They have good prices and the staff are crazy knowledgeable. These peeps love games. There's a really good arcade and game room in the back. The gaming zone isn't just a place of commerce, they are community centers for the gaming oriented and a really important part of the social fabric of Maricopa. Keep up the good work!

Both locations have very friendly staff and will go out of their way to help answer questions. The Tempe location is awesome with stand up arcade cabinets which have all you can play for like $10. If I have one complaint is that, even though they recently moved to a larger location, the game room is small and can only hold at most 15-20 people with not many places to sit down during events. It can be hard to move around at times. Otherwise, it's a great place and a welcoming atmosphere.

I originally stopped by this place because I went to Arizona Donut Company (amazing place for good, cheap donut holes) and saw this on my way there. It's pretty rad! There is a great variety of new and used gaming equipment and games. The owner is very informative and easy speak with. There is an arcade full of classics and consoles that is relatively cheap to play in (pay hourly, for 3 hours, out all night), and great to bring friends along for. On Fridays (and maybe some other days) the arcade is open unt

Overall the place has a good selection and prices are mostly in line with the market. A few exceptions where they were a bit higher priced then should be. Customer service was none existent unfortunately. Two people were behind the counter and barely greeted me. I was the only one in the store shopping and was there for almost 30 mins. I was never checked in with or acknowledged. A saving grace is that they have an arcade that you can play unlimited for different time periods. There were a couple of tweens

One of my favorite video game stores in Arizona, I always try to visit this place when I can. Friendly and knowledgeable staff, fair trade offers, and always a great selection of games. Every time I come here, I never leave empty handed, It's always a fun visit if you have a great love for video games. Not only do they sell what you are probably looking for, there is a great selection of games to play in store + arcades. Hope this place will be open for generations to come.

The fighting games are in great condition, the arcade is a lot of fun, overall me and my two kids had a great time and we just so happen to come in when they were having a special and it was half off. Good Times! They also have a lot of great swag associated with games and game and culture along with a lot of retro games and consoles. It's a good spot if you're looking for retro console games and game-related swag as well as a great arcade and some computer stations.

Great place, the workers were helpful, and they have a great selection of games I just visited yesterday, and it was amazing

Absolutely amazing atmosphere and great guys that run the store, they definitely have earned my entire business in Arizona. Good bye money! Hello happiness! Thanks again for the great service! I highly recommend this store - very fair prices!

Disappointed, drove from the West Valley here today so we can take our son to play the arcade games. We didn't see anything posted on their social sights that said Arcade was closed for anything, so of course we came. We show up, and the arcade is closed, super disappointing. Hope we can try again another day, or someone can stay up to date on social media better.

Came here to to sell my some games (that I had previously bought from them) & they low balled me like crazy. They offered me 40$ for 2 different systems that came with games & memory cards. I'll never come back to this place again. Not to mention the customer service is trash. I waited 30 min for them to tell me I'll get 40$ for my consoles. Bro save your time & sell your things online or they will rip you off.

it has a good selection of games but things are overpriced as hell. sometimes the glass cases will run out of anything of note so they scramble to put any $30-$40 game they can find in there. the glass case is supposed to be for rarer and more valuable games but i saw shrek super party for the gamecube in the case in the back the last time i was there. they were selling mario 64 loose for like $20 more than it usually goes for. it would be a great store if they didnt price gouge as much as they do

I love this store for the games it sells. I have systems from sega genesis to PS4 and they have a good selection for every system. They even have reasonable extra cords for old systems. I once brought a broken n64 game in and it was fixed for me! The reason I have to give 3 stars is they don't allow customers in the restroom. Last time I was in I was excited to buy a new game but had a sudden urge to pee while browsing. I had to leave and go home. It just sucked cause I really wanted a new game and they wou

This place rocks. Old games, new games, everything in between. If you're a Smash Bros Ultimate player they do weekly tournaments twice a week. Super friendly staff, great players, great vibes.

The best one out here

This establishment is great!! In the front part is a retail center with both older consoles and newer ones, along with the games. In the back part is an arcade. They have done a good job incorporating "old school" such as Tetris at the same time you can rent a modern day console to play modern day games. The prices for this arcade section are very reasonable, especially for the old school $5 for totally unlimited play. The console rental is $3.00 per hour. It is nice and cool inside, too. Located in a small

This place is awesome they have a great staff excellent selection good prices. My kids enjoy themselves in the GameZone for hours of entertainment and fun they got to play the games that I grew up playing and got to see the different game consoles that we grew up knowing. Their staff member who was working at the time great customer service cuz he was really into his work he knew his insides and outs of the gaming world. We are definitely going to go back and visit again

The Gaming Zone is awesome! At the beginning of Quarantine, I wanted a Super Nintendo to keep me busy and play the classics. They gave me an awesome deal and I got Super Mario, Megaman X, and they even through in a bonus game for free! Amazing customer service. Playing Super Mario took me back to my childhood and it's been great to pass the time playing it! I will be back for sure!!! Thanks Gaming Zone!

If I have one critique I would ask that the arcade have an hourly rate discounted by group and by age. It would be awesome if it was more flexible. This is an awesome place to pick up new and retro games and various pop culture items like cool shirts and keychains and such, associated with video games.

Great place for gamers of all ages! Definitely worth a visit. They have both games and gaming related merchandise, and a really cool arcade section to indulge on some nostalgia filled fun. They're also very responsive via messages.

The staff is awesome and friendly. The gaming lounge is great and has amazing people there almost every day. Definitely worth checking out if you're interested in classic games, arcade games, or participating in fighting game tournaments.

2022- Tommy is amazing! You all have the best selection the best prices and your employees always make me feel like coming home for the holidays :) i had a wonderful conversation with Tommy today and to quote him don't judge a book by its cover, I look rough and tough but im a human being and im always treated like one at the game zone and thats why i faught for this country :) thank you all. Sincerely marcus the black guy with all the piercings :) For 5 years this place has been my go to game spot! the t

Great selection of games to choose from. I really like how clean and organized this place is. I've been here several times and the staff has been extremely welcoming and willing to help. 10/10 Would highly recommend ??

I just happened to be in the place and decided to take a look at the inventory. Nothing has changed. Employee still left customers wandering around and offered no help. I was there 15 minutes and not a single word was said to me. Not gonna complain too much, since I was expecting it thanks to my last visit. I went in looking for help amd the kid behind the counter looked at me when i came in the door but never said a word to me. Nor did the guy runni g back and forth from the arcade room to get a different

Great store that has expanded from their original location. Lots of used games to choose from with good prices. They also have a great section for homebrews, and repros that were never released in the U.S., so you can get that "new-to-you" game that you can pick up for your retro console. On top of all that, they have a full arcade with all day play for a small fee. The owners are great and it's a must hit store if you're a gamer and in the Tempe area.

I have enjoyed every visit to this place and have always found something. Stock and prices are very hit and miss but it is a small store and for what they have, it's worth a visit. They even have repro carts and tool sets for taking apart our old games. I don't really go for the arcade experience but it is a sweet setup as well. Worth checking out, you may find something you need.

For those looking to sell I went to a few different places prior to coming to the Gaming Zone (flashback games, bookmans, and fallout games to name a few). Of those places I think you'll get the best prices at the Gaming Zone of course they're still trying to make a profit but I don't think they want to cut you short. They struck me as a very nice and there establishment has a good atmosphere.

The place is cool in concept, but it's obvious the owners don't know the price of their merchandise. Or they're just looking to scoop as much profit as possible. $50 for Zelda Spirit tracks is insane, along with a $50 price tag on 007 GoldenEye because of a reproduction case (and asking $25 for no name snes games is a bit much). I want to like the location, but for collectors beware: search elsewhere first.

Great place to find older games that are no longer in stores without paying crazy eBay/Amazon prices. Shop is very clean and also has an arcade and console area to try out a game before buying. Staff is very friendly and well informed on their products.

Always a great selection on all consoles. TGZ helped me complete my Nintendo 64 collection. Employees are always very attentive and helpful. I've only had positive experiences here!

The store is set up very well. Huge variety of games for multiple platforms. Prices are competitive to high end. I picked up a couple NES, SNES, and PS2 games. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I would come back here next time I am in Phoenix.

The selection of games is great but overpriced compared to online prices. Their arcade was cool but definitely not worth $10. Most of the games are broken and the selection could be a lot better. I think if you gave people more bang for their buck you'd see more revenue.

Don't trade your games here. We brought in one of my favorite N64 games (Majora's Mask Gold) and they busted it. Unscrewed the back and now it's cracked. Was almost in tears this morning seeing it. We went to go trade in what we had left to Another game store today and they offered more than double what this shop did. I was appalled, and frankly so was the manager of this game shop. He couldn't believe they offered such a low amount AND destroyed our cartridge without even saying anything. They wouldn't do

Besides the fact that you can find EVERYTHING in this store for cheaper at any other local game store,1up, bookmans, hell even zia records has better pricing. But it was very upsetting that When I arrived we were not greeted at all, the little boy with black hair who runs the front barely looked up at us, he sat staring down at his phone. And when we went into the arcade area with a bunch of quarters he passive aggressively came around the corner and stared at me instead of just helping me out. He then walk

This is the best place for video games in the valley for several reasons. First off, they work hard to keep their shelves stocked full of good games. A lot of stores just rely on random trades, and eventually become barren deserts of bad games. These guys on the other hand understand the importance of having games that you actually want to buy. Second, you can rent a game in the game lounge, so even if you don't have the money to buy something you can still have a lot of fun. This is important for broke k

I've been shopping here for about 2 years and it has been a great way to progress in my retro game collection. Not just with things I need but also discovering hidden gems and memorabilia. Not to mention the arcade in the back is a fun way to kill time

The owner was really helpful and you could tell he cares tremendously about gaming. Prices were fair bordering on cheap. Clean and well stocked. I especially liked the stock of old strategy guides. Will return again for Retrocade!

It's is a crazy place they have amazing games and tournaments people should know about this place more I went here with my sept dad and we had the time of our life here we even got a bad game to prank my brother. 10/10

Awesome selection, knowledgeable staff, if you owned a gaming store this would be it. Classic games through current gen, even repros at great prices. Plus there's a freaking arcade with a great selection of classics and multiplayer fighters. I wish it was closer so I could be that annoying regular that's always there.

Went there after seeing them on Craigslist: almost a nonexistent selection of video games, and prices are generally higher on the twenty games they did have than other game stores in Phoenix. The staff were a bit stand-offish when I visited (though I suppose people have their bad days), and I was not a fan of the setup, and a lack of any real return policy on stuff (exchange only) is a real bummer. Honestly wouldn't even call them a Video Game Store as most Pawn Shops and Thirft Stores have a better selec

I go into gaming zone not just to buy games, but to experience a community of cool and welcoming giant nerds and dorks. The retro nights where everyone brings in their favorite games to play, the fighting game scene that will not just show off the best and brag but bring you in to train to BE the best. Ever since their storw expanded the new arcades on free play with a small entry fee to play everything from beatum ups to shooting games its just so much. Also they post dog pictures sometimes in their adds,

Great deal $10 for an hour of play. they have great games!

Went for Gameboy games, had about 6 games total like "construction zone" and "hit wheels racing" terrible selection, the employee was too busy playing Nintendo wii behind the counter to hardly help me out. Tried to buy a jurassic park game for the Gameboy and he wouldn't budge on the price so I left and prolly won't return. Good uck to you guys hope you get it together. It has potential

Great gaming store has a huge selection of Old and New Games. Employees seem to care a lot about what they are doing and I even overheard one of the employees referring a customer to another store that had a power cord for cheaper... very honest people here hope they stay around!!

Amazing selection. Fair prices. Great vintage arcade room and great value. Spent $10 had fun for 6 hours

I am more than pleased with the service The Gaming Zone provided. I was able to obtain a game I was missing for my GC collection at a great price. Jorge was very attentive with my purchase. Will definitely recommend and purchase more games from TGZ in the future.

Customer service was a 10/10 today. Prices are reasonable for their xbox one games. Overall amazing!!!!!! My new favorite place to get games!!!! Thank you so much Gaming Zone!!!!!

The guy that runs this place is amazing. I've bought off of him several times (and won a contest too!) everything I've ever bought arrived super fast, is packed with extra goodies and is packaged so well it's practically indestructible. Thank you for everything, can't wait to see what you do next!

Great staff, nice environment, and TONS of awesome arcade games! Very diverse stock of games and equipment, so they've got you covered. Really good local scene with regular tournaments. I tell everyone I know about this place.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?
