The Detour

We came to Detour on a Thursday night and the place was packed for a trivia night - super fun and lively. It's a large open space, great for game nights or other events - they have big screens around the bar that people can play video games on (there's usually a Super Smash Bros or Mario Kart game going on). They also have arcade machines around the room. We ordered a few drinks, and really enjoyed the Sangria. Our server, TC, was a delight as well and made my friend a ?surprise? cocktail that was great.

Fun spot to hang out with friends. Grabbed a table and looked at the menu. Once we decided, we ordered at the bar. Waited to pick up our drinks which were reasonably priced for the city and decent. Got a buzzer for the food. Portion size for the snacks we're on the small size but other dishes seemed reasonable. Arcade games were not sticky and they had something for each of us.

Time warp, rediscovered game nights, video games from back in the days , a solid selection of cocktails and their own take on bar food. In short it works. The Detour a whole vibe. Lots of people playing games and just chilling drinking and eating. The place is small which kinds of sucks because it's was crowded but everyone seem to be in their own world of games. The food was actually really good for bar food. Everything tasted great. The games were fun and to my surprise I like playing the old school games. Had a great time here. Would definitely recommend it as a cool place to chill.

the food here is absolute, overpriced garbage. spent $40 for two tacos and 6 wings to split with a friend. does that seem reasonable? we both agreed it was not worth the amount of food and the taste of the wings was aggressive. go down the street for better food.

Love the Detour, they have a great selection of craft cocktails on tap, boardgames for free play, and more than enough arcade games to keep you busy. The space uses moody, warm lighting to produce a cozy atmosphere. Bartenders are friendly and kind and there's always a fun event going on. Love! The games were really entertaining and the food was just OK, nothing wow. The pizza was mid and the corn dogs were good but hurt my stomach. The drinks on the other hand, 10/10!!! The mangomargs was the best ive had and the service was superior <3. Cute place for date night

Fun place to meet for a drink. Menu has changed a couple times, but still a good spacious place for a gathering. Even if you don't play the video games (which can be quite pricey), there's board games available!

Got to finally check out The Detour in the Castro. It's the newest addition in a line of bar turned gaming clubs in the city but this one definitely delivers. So many cool games to play. Definitely a place to visit at least once. Sadly lots of machines are going out of service. Rush to play before they are gone.

Great place to hangout with friends! With so many games to choose from and several options of non-alcoholic drinks and vegetarian food options. Staff can be a little stern faced. "Nori tots" were a little bland and "fried cauliflower" was flavorful but felt way too oily.

Amazing old school arcade with great beer and cider selection. Games range from 25c to $1. Try the NES machine in the back the 25c games and 100 to choose from.

I have visited many arcade bars around the country and for me the key to a good overall experience is a menu that isn't the expected or at least outside your normal bar food. This recently re-amp menu is a Pan Pacific variety of light dishes to full entrees. The unique corn dogs with Polish sausage paired well with their Tasty Tots. The perfect variety of video games and a great selection of beers and drinks makes this one of the best arcade bars I have visited in the US

Solid arcade if you're looking to play some old games, but bring your own quarters because most of their change machines were broken and a good amount of the games were also not working. They did have a good number of old school games to still make it a good time. Came here while visiting SF from the UK. It was our only our first full day of our trip in the US. The bar was very cool, lots of great arcade games that were really fun to play. Helpful service. Fun range of new and retro arcade games. Thoughtful beer selection. Very accommodating for groups. Call ahead to reserve table for groups greater than six. You can even bring outside food if arranged accordingly.

I hosted a company event here, and it was amazing. Tiffny was the most helpful, gracious hostess, helping me to tailor everything to my needs and budget. The rest of the staff and bartenders were also friendly and great. Food was yummy (the okonomiyaki tots ????), and my vegan coworker also enjoyed her options. The games were a ton of fun, and the overall place was a vibe. Highly recommend!

This barcade was about average in comparison to others I've been to in the past. Has an excellent selection of beer, but the arcade cabinets leave a lot to be desired. There are really just a handful of them in here, and a few of the games I actually cared about playing didn't have fully operational buttons and sticks, making it practically pointless to spend time on.

I not only enjoyed the selection of alcohol here, but the selection of games was a lot of fun as well. From pinball, to old time classics, and to some new stuff I hadn't seen before, Brewcade was a great way to spend a few hours. Great place to have an "adult outing."

Located in a modern condo building, Brewcade is a bar with arcade games. Sadly in the Castro, but not a gay bar. The bar serves only wine and beer, with a couple premade/previously frozen food options. The games are fun, but nothing too modern nor too iconic. The games fit the ok to decent category. Can't rate food cause we didn't have any, but the drinks, service and atmosphere is awesome at this place. It's a video game lovers bar for sure. They have a bunch of classic games as well as a switch hooked up to the big screens that you can play smash bros or Mario kart on if you purchase a drink. Definitely worth checking out.

every coin-op game we played ate two quarters before accepting payment and while there are signs everywhere saying you can ask to get that change back, good luck getting any attention on a packed Friday night. Ultimately it was the unnecessarily sassy attitude from both the bouncer and the bartender killed the mood. It was awesome this was my first time here and I had such a fun time. It's such a chill year energetic vibe and there's lots of nostalgic games virtual and board games. Cute idea to mix arcade games and booze. Its fun to play around and drink a few beers. There is a seating area for those who just want to drink, or need a break from playing. Drinks are a little pricey, but it is a themed bar, so it is not totally unexpected. Good beer selection, so that is a plus. Solid place to grab a few friends and play around.

The bad is the shape of the video games. Half, and I'm not exaggerating, we're broken. I probably spent more quarters in games that didn't respond than ones that did. Fix this one thing and it'd be a five 5? star rating, IMO.

I have been coming here since this was called "Brewcade". It has grown so much and is an amazing bar. If you want to cut loose, have a few drinks, and snack while you have fun, you have found the right place. You will be welcome with open arms and so many options for fun!

We came as a group of 8 hoping to just play arcade and eat (without necessarily drinking), but they did not even let us into the building since one of us did not have a physical ID with us (she had a photo of her passport but they wouldn't accept it even to let us in; once again we weren't planning to drink). Great place to celebrate a birthday! It was very easy to reserve tables & order food in advance. The food was great (love the okonomiyaki tots!) and the games were a ton of fun.

I come here and spend $500 on every visit but, despite the fact that there are plenty of empty tables, they kick us big spenders off tables that we're actively using. They do not support those who support them. I've given them a second chance about this, but no more. Fool me twice, shame on me.

This place is fun! They have a lot of classic street fighter-like games, some pinball machines, a racing game, Mario Kart, and even Killer Queen! They don't have a full liquor license, so their cocktail selections are pretty limited, but they have a wide selection of brews and a few wines, so most people should be happy.

Love this place, especially on free play and board game nights. They also have trivia on Wednesdays! The drinks and black sesame fries are great. The paprika wings were a little weird but overall a good place for late night snacks and games.

Mixed feelings about this place after the redesign. The fact that they started letting in children during day times kind of ruined my experience until they were kicked out at 6pm. I guess that's what you have to do to get more business and survive in the area. Beer selection is pretty low and cocktails are mediocre, but I always have fun at the brewcade. I'll give it a thumbs up for the fact that they have actually good food for a bar.

Holy cow, I love this place! Playing Killer Queen with 9 friends while having a great beer is hard to beat. The atmosphere is offers an intimate feel, and it's not too crowded on a Thursday night. ?? Brewcade is such a delightful experience, I don't know why I've resisted it all this time!

Old school games and a good selection of alcohol. Killer Queen is really fun with a group. My company went here for an evening celebration outing and it was a good spot. Most games have places to hold your beer. There are three big screens to watch the game too. The crowd is alright, but sometimes you get people? that take the games way too seriously.

What a wonderful time! Sheree and TC made my first time here, only my 2nd time in SF phenomenal! My company held a party here and reserved the games section. The food was great with very inventive flavors! Much more than typical bar food. Everyone I engaged with was wonderful and really made my time there memorable. Amazing place with great beers and some awesome throwback games. Don't leave without playing Killer Queen, it's one of about 11 in the US. Andrew has been holding down the fort by himself both times I've been and the bar was packed. Great service, great beers, cool people. Can't get any better than that.

Unfortunately I'm not as big of a fan since the redesign and expansion. It's harder to find games that are open since it's two different areas, and the design and flow of the spaces are completely different. There's less tap beer options, especially local, which were my favorite part. Now it seems to have a half dedicated to the food and bar, while the spaces that used to be special, like the massive magnetic letter wall, are covered by games despite having plenty of space elsewhere. I really liked Brewcade

Really great layout. Very reasonable priced bar with friendly staff. Cost of games is not bad because you get rewards if you're pretty good. But if your pinball/shooting/ skills are unsolid due to lack of recent practice and/or a deprived junior high experience, your quarters go quick. Get more quarters then you think you'll need.

The place is spacious and the arcade atmosphere is very well done, it's noisy but you can still sit down and enjoy a beer with friends. The pinball selection is great, and they have some classic shooters in okish shape, like Time Crisis. The beer selection is fine, the drinks are mostly premixed and not recommended. The food is run of the mill frozen but it's ok.

It's a small-ish bar so prepare to be jostled a bit but it's a fun spot to visit with friends. Beer menu is robust and they now have a few cocktails as well. I'm also not embarrassed to love their frozen wine drinks. Make sure you and your friends try your hands at Killer Queen. It's a really fun experience!
