The Coin Slot

Reviews Summary

The Coin Slot is a nostalgic arcade bar with strong appeal for retro gaming and pinball enthusiasts. Most reviews praise its fun atmosphere, diverse drink selection, and classic games, though some note a heavy emphasis on pinball over traditional arcade cabinets. Pricing is occasionally criticized as high ($1 per play for pinball), but many appreciate the reasonable costs for older games (25¢). Food options, including pizza and food trucks, receive positive mentions. While the vibe is generally welcoming, a few reviewers mention limited game variety, machine maintenance issues, or crowded evenings. Overall, it’s a beloved spot for families (pre-9 p.m.) and adults seeking a playful, retro experience.

It's the perfect spot for family there are coin slots, atm available food truck including Ramen bowls yummy l, live music and amazing atmosphere

Great bar tender! Should have got her name. Happy hour is weekdays til 6pm, which I'm glad I got to be a part of with locally brewed beverages. $14 for 3 cider drinks with happy hour pricing ?? mostly Pinball ($1/play) provided for entertainment, but there is also 2 player guitar hero, pool, Buck hunter, ms packman, and a jurassic park shooter simulator that's in the sit-down dome for $2/play. I want to check it out during the summer time for live music outside.

One of my fav spots in TC! Our bartender was awesome and patient with folks who are unsure what to drink.

The staff and drinks are amazing, but only a couple minutes of game play is $2-$4. One song on guitar hero is $2 (or $3 for a ?premium? song) per person. One race on Mario Kart (3 laps) is $2 per person, etc. The games are way too expensive for me. The vibe is enjoyable though. We originally planned to spend a lot of time here but left after under 30 minutes on this visit. We've been several times in the past and will be skipping in the future. We hope it gets sorted out.

Love pinball. Love drinks. This was sweet to right right in downtown traverse. Not very big amd can get a bit cramped and hot, but this was a really cool find. Each day they offer specials as well. We will be back.

great atmosphere and vibes all around! the music choices were great and the attached pizzeria was delicious! only downside is that it was a bit smokey because of the pizzeria. so many pinball games and other fun activities. there was indoor and outdoor seating and my parents said the drinks were very yummy and unique!

Cool place! Many pinball machines to choose from, for the most part they cost 75 cents per play. There are only a couple other arcade games for those not into pinball. There's also one pool table. Plenty of beer/spirits to choose from and fast service. There is also an outdoor patio with live music on occasion.

Super cool spot. Huge list of canned drinks. Definitely worth popping in for an hour or so on a rainy or any other day. There were way more pinball machines than I thought there were based on photos online. The Lotr pinball game was my favorite by far.

Extremely pricy to play games compare to other arcade places. But good service and good vibes.

A great place to go out with friends if you enjoy pinball. They have a few other arcade like games, but it's mostly pinball. A pizza place is in the back of the building, and a ramen food truck out front, both with good food. They also have a friendly atmosphere. They also have a bar with a broad selection of various canned alcoholic drinks, my personal favorite are their ciders.

Just found this place!!! I've heard about it, seen posts about it, but never visited. Damn, I wish I wouldn't have waited so long. If you love pinball and old arcade console games then this is the place to go. Love hanging out with friends, chillin with a cold beer, and over all just have a great time? Then go here!!! Day, night, inside, or out...go have some old nostalgia fun!

Fun atmosphere and love the food trucks!

What a fun place. Brought my girls (11&7) here and we all loved the place. Ended up not eating or drinking anything here, but the games are fun. $1 each play on the pinball games. .25 for Pac-Man. The machines mostly take quarters with a couple that take $ bills. Definitely a fun time and will absolutely be back

Loved the variety of games for such a small venue. We went really late at night so we didn't order food or drinks. But it was fun!

Super cool place to shake up date night or kill some time while waiting for an upcoming dinner reservation. There's a huge assortment of canned beverages (n/a options available too) that you can purchase & enjoy while you play some pinball.

Every game you want to play and a few you didn't know you wanted too. Friendly staff, good selection of mystery beers to request.

I've seen this place and always walked by it. Really glad we finally went in! My husband and I had the time of our lives playing games from our childhood. Only disappointing part was how small it is. No bodies fault, I'm sure the owners got what they could afford. I hope it continues to do well so they can expand and get more games. And the price of beer is a bit expensive. But I'm guessing that is to offset the fact that an all day pass to play games is pretty affordable.

I can't believe it. Unbelievable. Lol. You can get drinks and play pinball and off arcade games. Peeps had their little kids and teens playing games and the rents played games with a beer. No one was over drinking but everyone was having fun. The kids can have their little drinks and also they have canned water named "Liquid Death". Too funny. I loved it. The husband and I didn't have any kids with us. We were the kids. OMG. Go and see for yourselves. Family fun or just fun for yourself.

My fiance and I were excited to go here. We love arcade bars. The atmosphere was fun seeing everyone playing a game and enjoying their beverage. However the game selection was kind of bare bones just mainly 80% pin ball machines and rest arcade games. Felt like the cost of playing these games were insane. Also we just got two canned drinks, but when I cashed out our tab I was shocked that our two drinks cost $26 bucks. I could understand if we got a cocktail or something but simply just two beverages that t

Coolest arcade bar in northern Michigan! Great vibe and really nice machines. They have a very modern selection of pinball machines. The Two Sons pizza spot connected to the arcade is great - bring a slice and play some games!

This place was awesome! They have all sorts of arcade games to play for 1 quarter. They also have pool. There were a couple places to get alcohol from here and they had a decent selection. They also sold hot dogs/coney dogs and that includes a vegan option! The vegan coney dog was really good! This place was great!

Amazing service and the mystery beer (which can be at a discount at most prices) makes it an amazing place to drink. That's not counting the the arcade which is a great selection of old arcade games with a retro theme and great food trucks (atm). Makes it a landmark for Traverse City if nothing come here for this quite place.

Great spot! They had a pizza kitchen and a food truck, plenty of drinks, plenty of pinball machines, and live music.

Great bar with plenty of pinball machines, cool retro games like this memory test, a few multiplayer fighting games, and a pool table. Nice craft beer selection, theres also a pretty good pizza counter in the back corner with awesome vegetarian options! Only thing that annoyed me is they sell shooters for $6 a pop- pretty steep when a pack of 10 at the gas station is $10.

Retro gaming heaven, along with good food and drink. I swear this is the best place for arcade, and all things retro. I actually accidentally stumbled in there one night after a Trapt concert at the Cherry Festival and a little too much drinking, as I used the restroom there. Anyway, I noticed a Nintendo 64 right in front of this couch thing and 2 people playing it. Along with all sorts of other nostalgic gaming things. I am going to be going back there again as it's my kind of place.

Looking for a little vintage fun? The Coin Slot offers classic gaming with plenty of pinball and arcade games to choose from. It's geared towards adults as they have a full selection of canned beers, ciders, and mixed drinks that you can enjoy while playing games. Come back as they rotate games in and out from their collection. Frogger anyone?

Old school arcade with great entertainment and food trucks

You really can't go wrong with a place that sells mystery beers. Live music on the roof. Fun arcade with some free play pinball machines at times. Pizza was expensive and mediocre. Coming from Youngstown, OH - pizza better be top notch.

Wide array of canned beers to choose from, many N/A options (though few are beers), many pinball machines, an air hockey table and a few arcade games make this bar a lot of fun.

Awesome little arcade. Mostly old school and pinball. Most the pinball is a $1, but they have a good mix of older and newer models. There was a food truck outside and a small bar area will local beer as well. Cool spot.

They offer drinks and have some food options in the back. Decent selection of different types of arcade games. Overall a fun experience. They closed around midnight when we were in town so don't plan on staying too late.

Loved the atmosphere! Super cool Very hot inside by the back pinball machines.. pizzeria seemed to be under construction? Cool bands and DJ (we were there two nights in a row) Sat night bartender was fairly rude brown hair glasses but we'll be back and tell our friends and family to visit. Loved the ramen truck as well overall good place

Great service and a very fun atmosphere! There is a great choice of beverages. I love the selection of games to play. The pool table can be tough to get a spot open. The atmosphere is fun and you always meet new people. Make sure to ask for free water, they do have it! This is a great place to bring your significant other and have a great night. The night we went in, they were playing Harry Potter. Definitely a plus!

The Coin Slot offers a refreshingly unique experience that transports you back to the 80?s and 90?s. It's a great concept that appeals to gamers of all ages. While the price is very reasonable, it would be great to see a little more variety in terms of games and perhaps more strict guidelines for those who tend to hog them.

Fun arcade bar. Plenty of pinball. Rick and Morty pinball was great machine.. This place has a Great selection of canned beers.

Had a fun time here. Staff was so nice and helpful. Mainly pinball machines. Cool place. Good pizza. So many drinks to choose from.

Only serves cans, and you DON'T GET ANY COINS FOR BUYING DRINKS Over priced for what exactly? Wont be back

This place has it all - great food that's open late and shares the building, live music, good beer, and of course pinball and the arcade classics. Every arcade game was in great working order! No coins were eaten. They have an ATM and quarter machine if you need.

A great way to spend with friends is or a nostalgic date night. It's our #1 place to go to lose track of time with fun.

Was fun, mostly pinball, it's not just one coin..... Good bar selection and pizza smelled amazing!

Fun place to go. We enjoy having a good craft beer and playing classic arcade games. Wish they turned over games more often. Always seems to be the same ones there. Would be nice to see some different ones. *Updated to 4 stars because of helpful response from Coin Slot regarding my initial review. Makes sense that moving games in winter would be a challenge.

This place is simultaneously energetic and low-key. They had a rave going on outside at the corner when I visited, and they offer pizza and pinball on site. Their selection of beers is very extensive and unique.

Fun! They have a great selection of canned beers. Most pinball games are $1.00 per play and the arcade games were $0.25. They do have a change machine and ATM.

Cool retro throw back. They moved from the basement to the upper level. Love the all day play option and multi day pass. Great games like X-Men, Space Invaders, Tetris, Mortal Combat, Donkey Kong,Mrs. PAC man, Pac Man, Qbert,Frogger Skeet-ball. Also have the Nintendo and Super NED consoles and Faygo Pop and Movie Theater style Candy. Little pricy on the concession. I will give 5 stars once some pinball games arrive (The Who Tommy, Addams Family would be personal favs and 80/90s memories). We co time to ret

The bartender/server/host was a great experience. Great environment and awesome vibe. Come here!

This place is a gem. The staff we're super friendly and helpful when trying to pick a beer and they have all the fun pinball machines you could ever dream of. Bags to play outside along with two food trucks and an option for pizza on the inside.

I loved celebrating my birthday with friends here. It was a great environment for fun and drinks and the pizza was amazing!

A cool arcade spot to stop in for a quick drink. Their HVAC system could use some work it as it was quite stuffy and humid inside. Would have liked to see 50 cent pinball machines but they are all a dollar. Also, a lot of their beer menu was $10+ for a pint!

Classic arcade games at original prices. Loved our visit there this past weekend. We were able to play some old arcade games that I had not seen in YEARS. Twenty-Five cents for each play. Large selection of canned beer. Something for everyone here.

Went there last night for the first time in a few years for my birthday, excited to play all sorts of classic arcade games, just to be met with a small had full of actual arcade games, and 90% pinball machines. Not much of an arcade if all you mainly have is pinball. Bring back the rest of the arcade. That's what you guys were known for. I'm not saying it's not a nice place, because it is clean and neat inside, just not what it used to be, and definitely won't be back anytime soon.

Nice little retro arcade, mostly pinball but it was a fun time and lots of drink choices inside and out..

Great place if you've got cash! Deceptively expensive. Every machine is $1 a play and if you come with kids, you leave with an empty wallet. Staff is great if you want a beer, but they will not leave the confines of their refrigerator refuge to help if a coin is stuck or anything short of a brawl...actually, I can't confirm that because people were nice and there were no scuffles of any sort. Attached pizza joint is decent, but not worth the $30 a pie price. I need some stuffed Chicago style at that range

Pretty solid nostalgic video game bar. Great beers on tap and options for all day unlimited and hour unlimited options for game play. Pinball is not included. There was a great food truck in the parking lot during our visit as well.

A really great place. The only thing is I wish they had more old school pinball machines, like machines from out of the 60's and 70's, before all the computer based stuff. I get that because they're strictly mechanical they're probably harder to maintain but there's just *something* to a really old school machine that relies on a hammer hitting a bell to make it's noises that's special. Some of these newer machines are just really hard to decipher, difficult to jump right into, and frankly, hard to see at t

I can see this being a popular bar at night time. However, compared to other arcade/bars I've been to, this place is just OK. Pros: GREAT beer selection, I mean fantastic! Attentive staff. Pinball has a large selection of themes. Neutral: pinball games are $1 each. That's $1 for 3 balls. I give it a neutral because I've been to plenty of arcades that had $20 cover. And here I only played $10 worth of games. Which leads me to? Cons: not a wide selection of games. Most the pinball games you could tell were t

First you should know this is a bar with an arcade. I was there in the evening with three teenage boys and they enjoyed playing pinball and other video games for about an hour. It was nice to be able to sit outside on the patio and wait for them to finish and if I had wanted I could have had an adult beverage and if another adult was with me, I would have and gave the boys more money for quarters and stayed longer. As with all arcades it does get expensive as each game was 75 cents, but it was fun.

An adult playground with alcohol! Great staff. Could use some more videogames. But what they had was awesome!

This place always brings the kid in me out! It just so fun!

Fairly good number of cabinets, but they were mostly sterns (pretty boring layout), with only a few classics like monster mash. Plus, every machines was a dollar a play, and some of them had some maintenance issues (a few sticky flippers). That's not to say there werent a good number of machines, plus a few arcade games like mortal Kombat and buck hunter hd. Additionally, on a slow Tuesday afternoon, they let us sit in the booth without buying any drinks for the whole hour we were there. Also, all ages befo

Very cool place. The bar says ?cash preferred? while they charge a 4% credit card fee, but will not accept hundred dollar bills unless you spend at least $70.

Staring at 45 years of age, this establishment takes me back in time to when I wasn't the most popular kid in town, a reject, a Goonie. "But right now they gotta do what's right for them, 'cause it's their time. Their time, up there. Down here it's our time. It's our time down here." As long as you keep feeding the machines quarters, it will remain "Your Time". Do yourself a favor visit a Grizzlies next door to solidify your experience. For those of you who grow up with Strangers Things, this is as clo

Great vibe. Great beers. Great pins. Had a lot of fun here. I visited many years ago when it was still a retro arcade, love seeing the switch to pinball only. Great variety of machines from multiple eras. I'll definitely be back.

I thought I was crazy, but since it happened on two occasions please be careful here. One of the bartenders told me a reasonable amount for my tab, but checking my card receipts they actually charged me double. I had to do charge backs each time. Nice place, but maybe bring cash or don't go at all.

Cool little spot! Wristbands need to be purchased to play the video games and pinball is pay to play. Not a huge selection but enough to stay busy for about an hour.

Loved the sour beer and the old school video games. Highly recommended to anyone wishing to experience the finer things in life.

Mostly pin ball, staff never talked to us. Very local hang out feel.

Cool spot I never knew existed! Flashback old arcade games. Most of them cost only 50 cents. Ski ball is free, just give them your ID to get the balls. Lots of pinball machines if that's your thing. Great craft beers on tap and in bottles/cans. We went on a Feb Sunday and there was a yummy pizza food truck outside. Summertime has more food trucks out there. Carri is the best bartender!

Was hoping they would have more variety in the arcade games, as it is 90% pinball machines.

The general idea of this place is awesome. Fantastic local beers courtesy of The Workshop. The unlimited game pass is the way to go. Always have a great time. Met a large amount of the staff and have always had a good experience. Great times ahead for any beer and gaming enthusiast! One of my favorite places in town, would recommend to anyone looking for a fun filled night in downtown TC.

Great place. An incredible selection of drinks.

A group of six of us were wandering around and we made our way into The Coin Slot. They had a lot of beers to choose from and both of the beers I tried were cold and delightful. It was a lot of fun roaming around playing the arcade games and pinball games. I'm glad to see this trend starting to be more accepted and I hope to see more places like this pop up. I had a blast and would definitely go back. If i had to critique one thing I'd say maybe lowering the prices on the pinball from $1 to $.50 but either

I would give 5 stars if you stopped allowing children under 18

Loved the live band as well as the atmosphere and $3 PBR on tap. Staff is cool but when it comes to Two Sons Pizza in there, beware. That kid with the glasses at the counter needs to be replaced by someone who actually knows what's going on.

Awesome place to play modern pinball machines. They have a great selection of high quality Stern machines.

Great arcade bar, lots of the best retro cabinets, Simpsons drew my attention immediately ????

I love this place. I worked at a pinball parlor for the better part of my youth. I happen to be here when the owner brought in a twlight zone. Freaking perfect machine. Fun crowd, nice people, wonderful owner. Adams family - wonderful Twilight zone - wonderful Attack from mars - wonderful, this was in repair and not in the store on my part visit. Was working and I almost ruled the universe two weeks ago. Quality establishment 100% I worked at a pinball parlor for years, quality gaming here ! Oh,

Lots of fun for those who like pinball! There's pool and a few other games (beware, a few of the arcade games ate my quarters). Good drink selection to keep you ?hydrated? while you play the variety of pinball games. A coat room or racks would be a great addition so you don't have to hold your coat the whole time and we left smelling like fried food from the Coney Island that shares the back of the building. Still, a unique and fun experience!

Love the free skee ball! Pinball is $1, which is a bit higher than average for an arcade today. Regular 2/3p games are $0.25 each. Great pool table. No killer queen though!! ?? No taps but excellent beer/cider can selection. Food truck outside and restaurant next door. Fairly small place. It was not too crowded when we went (around 4pm on Friday), but I think it would be on weekends.

Nice little bar arcade. I like the games they had pinball machines and a few select arcade style games. From what I was told is that they used to have you pay by the hour for unlimited game use but on my visit it sounds like that had changed and you insert coins into the games now as you play. It's a bit dark inside.

they let in 21 under until their kitchen closes at nine (at least in the summer) and so your siblings can come, too! anyway, love this place. it isn't much, can and arcade bar at its basics but that doesn't stop me from having such a nice time while there. the games alone put you in a place of bliss. could be the nostalgia, could be the alcohol, either way it's a great time!

Fun little place to hang out and grab a drink. The pizza is pretty expensive but it's phenomenal. Wish they had more variety with the games they have, lots of pinball. Got some drinks and had a good time though!

It's such a fun place! Enjoy a drink, grab a pizza, and play some arcade games! Lots of games to choose from, younger kids welcomed before nine p.m, lots to do for the family.

A nice place to enjoy a beer and some pinball. No bar, just beer in a cooler and 2 flavors of frozen margaritas. But, still a nice place to to by.

Excellent service. Excellent selection of beers. Bartenders are knowledgeable, friendly, and just awesome. Locals get it.

this is where all the kids hang out, drink $10 cans of sours, and flick their boogers on the machines. extremely loud, dirty, and the machines barely work. if you want a real arcade experience for adults with delicious fresh brewed beer and machines that are actually clean and set up right, go to Right Brain Brewery, it's like 5 minutes away..

EDIT: When I first started coming several years ago they had lots of cool old arcade games. Now it's just expensive pinball and maybe a couple old arcade games of they actually work. Disappointing for sure as I've also read others reviews. The reduction to only pinball was clearly a mistake on their part. Apparently they also used to have a gaming area to play old console games, would love to have seen that! I know pinball is a money maker for the owners obviously but I think you can't really call yourself

Loved this place! Bartender was super friendly and I loved the atmosphere, music and games! Good selection of beers and bartender seemed very passionate and knowledgeable about the breweries and beers that were served. Definitely stopping here again anytime I'm in the area. Thanks for making my trip even better!

We took our teenagers here after a long day of winery hopping. We planned to walk around town while they played, but you must be 18+ (might have been 21+) to stay here alone. Not a huge problem as they serve The Workshop beer and cider and the guy working was friendly and talkative and knew a lot about the beers. Because it's unlimited play via a wristband and not by coins, they do have to keep a carful eye on who's in the game area and you can't wander around ?just looking? as the games will all work for a

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are pinball tables still good in this modern age?

Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds. Though less common than video games, pinball’s tactile charm and community vibe make it a standout arcade experience in 2025.

Why are arcade prize games so exciting to play?

Arcade prize games are a thrilling highlight in 2025! Claw machines, skee-ball, and ticket-redemption games like basketball offer a rush of skill and chance, with rewards like plushies, toys, or electronics up for grabs. Modern machines feature vibrant lights, digital scoreboards, and responsive controls, amplifying the fun. The lively arcade atmosphere, with cheering crowds and buzzing energy, makes every win feel epic.
