The Coin Jam

The Coin Jam

Reviews Summary

Coin Jam is consistently praised for its fun arcade atmosphere with a mix of classic and modern games, excellent food (especially pork belly tacos and mac and cheese), and friendly staff. The drink selection, including beers and ciders, is well-regarded, though some wish for more non-alcoholic options. A few note higher game costs or spice levels in dishes, but most highlight generous portions, great service, and nostalgia. Ideal for date nights or group outings, it’s a standout spot in Salem.

I found my new favorite place in Salem! The Coin Jam is awesome. A full bar with great food. I got the lamb gyro tacos and my date got the chicken tacos. Really good and the staff was responsive and really nice. We spent 2.5 hrs in there and the time flew by. Many of the arcade games are either .50 or 1.00 for play credit. Quarters and not some random tokens which was awesome. I'm definitely coming back and encourage everyone to support this local establishment so we can keep awesome stuff like this around.

We had the best time here. The employees were all so nice. The service was excellent. The food eas so much better that I was expecting, I highly recommend the Crispy Pork Belly Tacos. A ton of old school arcade games. Best of all, you have to be 21 to enter. So it arcade time without kids. I did also try a couple hard ciders on tap. I had never had cider in tap and it did not disappoint. Excellent place for a fun night out.

Coin Jam rocks! Great bar food, great classic pin ball and classic arcade games! Service can be spotty at times but everyone is friendly and welcoming.

We enjoy going to coin jam for the atmosphere and the great old time games and pinball. This is a must anytime of the week but especially on a Friday or Saturday night if you want to just relax get some good food drinks and play games. Love the fact the machines still take quarters!

This place has been here 13 years larg selection of retro games and some really nice pinball games The food here is excellent Great place for a date night

This place is awesome! They had several pin ball machines. They also have at least a couple dozen vintage video games. All of the classics were there. The quality and condition of them were excellent. Almost like new. I had a great time. I didn't try any food, maybe next time.

The best spot in downtown. Not only do they have an amazing selection of arcade games & pinball, but they also have some of the best food! The Crispy pork belly tacos are phenomenal (definitely grab the extra 1 for a few bucks more) on top of an excellent selection of Ciders (2 Towns, Oh yeah!) As well many other solid choices in either can, bottle, or on tap! Staff is always on top of their game ?? 11/10.

I love this place, and would have loved to give it a 5 star, but after they introduced the game cards instead of quarters, they also took away my favorite games NBA Jam and Dig Dug... both highly classical games. I honestly have NO CLUE who made the decision to get rid of NBA Jam after it was upgraded to a newer version.... makes ZERO sense. Also, why remove Dig Dug? I mentioned the joy stick was sticking, but then they removed the entire machine. They have 5 different pac man machines, they shouldn't be ta

Amazing food, wonderful bartenders, and killer games! It's a super fun place to hang out, do date night, anything. Kat, Devo, Christian, Mando, and Zoe are all amazing bartenders! Between them and the food, it's definitely worth fighting downtown parking to come in.

Had a couple of beers and some their smothered fries after a long shift at work. Beers were great as usual ? the loaded fries were trash. I asked to exchange my food after 1 bite l, cause I was hungry and still intended to have drinks and dine here. Surprisingly, they flat out refused to switch out my meal AND forced me to pay for the food I did not eat. Suuuuper disappointed.

All the old school games alone with a few new ones. All the games are now paid with a preloaded card so you don't have to carry around a bunch of coins. Really cool ??

No wonder this place is rated "Best in Salem." We've only been here a handful of times, but the food is really good and the drink options are plentiful. We tried the tacos recently for Taco Crawl week: the Pork Belly taco and the Jerk Chicken. Both were excellent, although I'm not into spicy food. The Jerk Chicken ramped up the spice the more it lingered on the tongue. The Pork Belly was my favorite, though. Service is great, decor is cool. The game selection is fun, but Monster Bash was missing this time

My partner and I absolutely loved the Coin Jam. The bartenders were a lot of fun and very kind and welcoming and I just have to say that the vibes of this bar were absolutely fantastic. Great night, great drinks, great vibes, and the mac and cheese was literally to die for. 10/10!

Great food and good beer selection, #foodcriticErrubiel I was impressed with their hot wings; (good presentation as well) they do offer Now a death hot sauce and it needs a warning sign for those non-spicy eaters. But if you like it hot go for it it will be a ride. And this is a place for gamers! If you used to play arcade games this is the spot. I like this place. Almost forgot. Must try their pork belly tacos!

Showed up on a really busy Saturday night, got drinks and there was a mix up when one of the workers were picking up ?empty? drinks and took my beer that was almost gone. Long story short, I thought it was a random person and when I told an employee they swiftly looked at the cameras and noticed the mixup and confusion. They immediately replaced my beer despite me telling them that it wasn't a problem. I'll definitely be here again soon, food was also really good and cheap. The only problem I had is that so

Great fun! The three of us went by and had the ricotta apple fritters and the smothered fries. Play the games for about an hour and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Very friendly staff and quick-service. :-)

Had a great fun evening!! Kat our waitress was great and on point.

Loved. This. Place. Great selection of beers and games (can't speak for their food, but it looked good!). The staff were always friendly and helpful. It was fairly busy most nights we went, but we always had a fun time.

Great place 21 or older arcade! Tons of older and some new arcade games. Fair prices to play. Food and drinks are also tasty. For people playing the games there are two change machines and an ATM. Just a good place to hang with friends to have a drink and play some games! There always seems to be a different arcade here when I drop in. Also for all those Pokemon Go fans there are two pokestops near by that can be swiped ??

Retro 80's done well. Games were exactly what you remember from the arcade as a young GenX'er, except without the sticky pop film. It brought back great memories. Food was awesome as well, and a nice selection of beers on tap.

Great aracade for the 21 and over. Nice selection of arcade games both retro and newer. Doesn't serve hard alchole. Only beers and ciders. Staff is friendly. Food is tasty! Not just fried options. Great place for singles or groups. Wheelchair accessible. No smoking patio. Smoking is outfront on sidewalk.

My favorite place to go in Salem. The staff is very friendly. The food is amazing, they always have something new. The games are inexpensive and fun.

Good food. Awesome food. Nice beer selection. And omg all the games from my childhood who knew it really all does come back to ya?! No minors.

The food was amazing, the service was wonderful and the bathrooms were clean! What more can you ask for? Great way to spend an evening out playing retro video games.

A really awesome arcade and bar. So many really fun vintage games and newer ones. The staff there is also super nice!! The only thing I wish is there were a few more non-alcoholic drink options, but it was such a blast it didn't bother me that much. And the rootbeer I did get was very tasty. Highly recommend if you're looking for something fun to do.

Great food. Nice selection of beer, wine and cider. Lots of arcade games, air hockey and a bunch of pinball. Staff is friendly and attentive. Favorite spot to go out in Salem.

Favorite establishment on the planet. Go here. Eat here. Play here. Everything is well maintained. Food is excellent. Staff are great people

Great hybrid arcade! There's so much nostalgia to be had at this place. I can't believe some of the arcade classics that they have there. Also at least 5 pinball machines, ballin'. Great selection of food items and alcoholic beverages, so yeah. No complaints whatsoever. Will be going back as soon as we can find a babysitter.

I didn't eat here but drank and placed video games. It may have been more fun than Dave n Busters due to the nostalgia of 80's and 90's video games and not paying a ginormous amount for a drink. My husband and I had a great time and will definitely be back! Can't wait to try the food as the men? looked great!

I noticed after you guys installed the whole card / micro currency system some of your games now cost me twice as much to play. $10 used to buy me X amount of plays on certain machines, now its roughly half that.

Literally best place ever. Went here last night to celebrate my 21st birthday and it's so amazing!! Incredible selection of drinks, same with food. Food portions are HUGE compared to the price, amazing! Games are kind of spendy, with a large majority of them being above $1 each to play. Incredible variety of modern and classic games. Our bartender was amazing and kept giving us amazing suggestions for beers! Overall 10/10 experience, we will be back with our friends next time!!!! Edit: I want to add that th

Cant believe they're retrofitting all the coin op machines with a tap card system, its already too noisy with their air hockey in an enclosed area, and without any coin op machines i don't see a reason to ever go back.

Coin Jam is a blast! Super fun place to spend an evening playing games, eating great food, and having drinks too. Their customer service is great and the selection of games, beverages, and food is spot on. It's a great place for a small or large group.

The atmosphere of this place was phenomenal. We were seated immediately and tended to frequently. The only complaint I could think to levy is that the portion sizes for the tacos specifically weren't great compared to the other menu items that were a similar price. For example, the tacos I purchased were 11 dollars but the 12 dollar BLT or Nachos had at least double the mass. That certainly isn't to say they weren't delicious, though. The pork belly and gyro tacos were great and so was the BLT and the Nac

Seriously, how have I lived here for 3+ years and NOT been here. Freaking fun and great food. Was a little worried it would be greasy?. NOPE!! YUM!!! And what a great place for an 80?s girl to come get her arcade on!!!!! lol!! A must visit!!!

The ambience is such a fun "way-back playback" to my high school days. I enjoyed the vibe a lot. The service was really good. The burger & fries was awesome. Even the bathroom was clean and nice. The volume was a little loud in general, but I'm more sensitive to that than most people. It's a fun spot to go on a date, or hang out with friends.

Great ambiance. Beers were $2 tonight. Air hockey table is soo much fun. All sorts of games ranging from 25 cents on up to $1. Friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Great place to go for video games, pinball, good bar food, the best fries and fun in Salem.

This is a very welcoming, accepting space! The staff are super friendly, the crowd is fun, and the environment is perfect for all 21+ audiences. You see a wide diversity of folks who all bond over arcade games, great food, and a huge selection of drinks. I always recommend this place to everyone, and I've taken many folks to coin jam.

Good food, prepared quickly. Servers are friendly and helpful. Good selection of beers and arcade games.

What nostalgia, jeez! I forgot how fun arcades were, and this is definitely more of a proper arcade you remember from back when than Dave and Buster's or the like. Good drinks, good food, and a rad selection of games, it seems to be a pretty popular spot! We'll for sure be back to burn pocketfuls of quarters.

It was my first time here and I had a blast! The fries were delicious! Will be back!

Fantastic bar with great drinks, great food, and even better customer service. The bartender not only offered me a taste of a cider, but then offered a tip about mixing the flavors to make it smoother. One of the arcade machines did eat two of my quarters but I consider that the cost of doing business with machines older than I am. Greatly recommend!

CRUNCHY PORK BELLY TACOS, get them and come back and heart this later. You're welcome.

Just a great place to unwind and have some fun. Great scene here with lots of throwback games for nostalgic folks.

Love this place. Plates of food are VERY generous with the amount they give you. Had the Bowser BLT and it was really well done. Then beer and an impressive arcade. Stopped by here for my friends Bachelor party and we had a great time! Highly recommended.

I love Coin Jam! Great food, really good selection of new and retro games, good drinks. I like that it is a 21 and older establishment.

I've loved coin jam for years! If you haven't tried their pork belly tacos what are you DOING. They are seriously amazing. ( I just wish they double tortilla?s them.) hehe I've never had food here that wasn't delicious. My fianc? and I like to come on Thursdays because they also have like $3 coronas! Awesome deal. The games are fun, TONS of options. And they have some of the NICEST staff I've ever met. Definitely recommend to anyone asking me where to have fun in Salem.

Came here for a date night & it was absolutely awesome! Nostalgic, relaxed fun atmosphere. Went on a Friday night so a bit busy but bartenders were attentive enough. SO MANY amazing games to play & each game had its own drink holder so you could put it down somewhere while playing, quiet impressed with that! The only downside would be no liquor. They had a great selection of beer/ciders & mojitos though. Would absolutely recommend for a date night or just to go out & have some fun.

Had a fantastic time here with my partner! The spinach artichoke dip is to die for!! And fun old school games. Friendly service as well. 10/10 recommend ??

Super fun downtown arcade bar with a surprisingly delicious food menu. The fry baskets are seasoned to perfection and the tofu lettuce cups are a great vegan option. $2 Corona Thursday?s! Mario kart, pinball, pac man, guitar hero, Jurassic Park, claw machines, the list goes on...

Comfortable atmosphere. Great selection of games. Would like to see wider options for food, but the burger I had was delightful.

I went here with a good friend. It was a great experience. People were super friendly and easygoing, and the place was small enough to find most things within eye sight. I enjoyed the mac n cheese with bacon bits, and the black bean tacos are to die for! The machines are fun, and in general, if you're looking for an easygoing and fun time, I'd recommend it here.

My friends and I came here for a birthday! We had a great time playing the retro arcade games and it brought back some wonderful nostalgia. Great selection of classic games, very clean, and I appreciate they have a machine that allows us to exchange our bills for quarters.

Love coming to coin jam. Pork Belly tacos are my favorite. Wish they would bring the tots back. Friendly staff, great place to go and have fun.

A good time was had by all. Mainly a pub with a little food, but what they was good. Lots of games, great atmosphere. Service was top notch.

The unique food items are actually quite good and the beer and cider selection on tap is good, but even more impressive is the bottled cider selection. Oh yeah, and they have a ton of arcade video games and pinball games!

Met the kitchen manager Manuel.... he gave excellent recommendations..... and Chris was an awesome waiter!! The cook Cody presented the plate amazingly! Food:The Bouser BLT THANKS EVERYONE for a great experience!!

Probably the best mac and cheese in Salem. Great atmosphere with a good selection of games and pinball machines, and a nice mix of old classics and newer ones. Plus, I'm always impressed with how clean they keep it, considering that arcades can sometimes be pretty gross. One of my favorite places in town.

All 5 stars this place is the best! Great atmosphere, great games and great people!

21st birthday here, drinks are amazing food is savory and delicious. Arcade games galore with amazing atmosphere. Highly recommend!!

Fantastic bar arcade with surprisingly delicious food. Their tacos are SO GOOD. Always friendly staff that adds to the atmosphere. I don't come here often but when I do it's a blast.

Excellence prices on games and quite comparable to other arcades. Quite an extensive collection of drinks in the cooler and on tap. The games were fun and a great collection of old and new games for the arcade connoisseur. I appreciated the customer service and fun menu of bar food. Will absolutely be back to enjoy the atmosphere and collection of games with more friends and family. Thanks again!

How ironic is it that the establishment is called COIN jam, but they moved to a card based system. If that wasn't bad enough, they removed any of the "deals" for pinball aka $2.00/3 games. This change ruined the vibe and the value.

Great little arcade.

We had an absolute BLAST! The bartender who helped us was incredible. Best customer service. Like we can't wait to go back. All staff was so kind and helpful. Everything about this place was awesome and worth the money. I highly recommend

This place is awesome! The drinks the games the fun! The food is also good! And they take quarters.

This is a great place for a quick bite and a bit of entertainment. Walk in and stake out a table. Oder you lunch/dinner (Order at the are if they are busy or they will come to you if it is slower.) The food is very good. The Tri-tip sandwich and regular burger are our favorites. Leisurely, eat your meal and sip you beer and then take your beer over to the video games. They each have cup holder designed for a pint. Play games until you can't hit the fire button any more... It is a great entertainment choice

Always love the coin jam. The menu has changed a bit since last went- still delicious, just different. Also feel like there are fewer beers on tap than there used to be. Service was still awesome, and the atmosphere is super fun. I'll certainly be back again.

First time here, and it is a really chill atmosphere. I enjoyed my time. Didn't get to play in the arcades, but will definitely be back. We had their fries and they were good, a bit salty but once you have it with the beer, it all makes sense. Customer service was top notch. Loved it ! Thank you!

Love the retro games, and the more modern ones. The food is excellent and they always have good beers on tap. The staff is very accommodating and friendly and are always ready to answer any questions you may have. Love this place!

Good appetizers , wish they open early and usually get sick here, need to wipe the machines more often

Great place to hang out after dinner in downtown Salem. Excellent selection of pinball machines and classic arcade games that will remind you how much better you were in the 80s ... so it's a good thing there's a pretty good bar when you walk in.

Coin Jam is definitely the beating heart of Salem's downtown bar scene. Perfect spot for a date night. The food menu selection makes it a great spot for food, their beer/cider/wine selection is vast and they even have premade/canned cocktails that are super tasty! They've got a massive selection of arcade games, pinball, airhockey, and other games with many that are multiplayer so bring your friends or significant other!

Awesome staff and good selection of games. Their food is shockingly delicious and I would come here just for the tacos! Absolutely love this place.

Love the food and atmosphere. I would love to do a YouTube vlog of your place

My favorite barcade in the area. Their food is pretty great, try the BBQ chicken flatbread. They have a good selection of classic arcade games, pinball, and some modern $1/play stuff that you can play for cheaper on your console at home.

Great place to go with friends or on a date! Their food menu isn't that large, but everything I've had there is delicious and reasonably priced. They have a fantastic selection of games, ranging from classics that are 30+ years old to some that are more recent.

This place is really cool, good food and drinks, some really awesome games and very nice staff. The only (small) downside was that there wasn't a couch like in the photos on here. There were only high tables and barstools. Not everyone is able to sit on those high barstools, so that kind of sucked. Otherwise, it was a cool place. My husband had a lot of fun for his birthday :)

I love this place!! I took my sister and best friend since they have never been there and they loved it. The arcade games brought on nostalgia from when we were younger and the smothered fries were absolutely delicious. I highly recommend if you want a laid back place to have a couple drinks, some good food and fun.

Cool place, kinda spending at a dollar a game but it's fun

Fun place to stop for arcade fun! Lots of classics.

The food is always good, but we drive there for the balsamic ketchup and fries. Yummy yum yum.

Okay why does this place have the best tacos !! At that their pork belly tacos !!! But the real reason I go is the service that Armando Olivares Ezikiel the 3rd, Jr gives !!! Always greets me with such great attitude!! I'll be walking in the door and he hands me a twisted tea right away !!! This will always be my # 1 place

Awesome place. It's clean, friendly, and the food is always on-point! The food is always plentiful and served hot! Temperature hot, unless you get the Jerk Chicken Tacos, then it's spicy hot. Beware!!! Bring quarters or cash to put in the quarter machine...if you want to play!!!

This place is awesome! Makes me feel like I jumped right into the 80's & 90's with all the awesome retro games you can play while enjoying an adult beverage! They host fun themed nights that you can dress up for like Harry Potter night & Game of thrones night! Excellent service & the staff are fantastic! Great bar food & an impressive drink & tap list.

It was a fun place staff could be a little more friendly and seem to help their friends more than just customers That have been waiting. Games could be updated but overall they were pretty cool. If you're going to eat I wouldn't recommend this place maybe after a couple of drinks LOL. But great place to drink beer and play video games. If that's what you're going to do.

Quite a few games to choose from. Coin operated. Change machine on site. Good drinks. Didn't have any food but heard it was decent. Friendly staff.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
