Customer Reviews

Went to just check it out for the first time and see what it's all about. the staff was very kind and easy to talk with which always makes the experience better. Prices are good and food also tastes good. Problem is that it's a small building, not a whole lot of room and tables aren't wide enough if you plan to play things like MTG, which was the main reason I went to the place, to see if this could be my groups new place to meet up and play MTG. if this place has more room and bigger tables, definitely wo

Fun place with several arcade games to choose from in addition to the (hudreds?) of board games. Food is nothing special, just snack foods warmed up in a toaster oven. We got the cheese curds and they were an absolute mess. We also got the mini corn dogs and they were slightly soggy. It was our first time ordering food here and probably wouldn't do so again. The beer and drink selection is great, and their namesake ?blue shell? cocktail is one of my favorites in the area and worth coming for all on its ow

Our bartender made our visit feel so welcoming. Her enthusiasm, attentivness, and attitude made the the bar so much better.. Great prices on drinks! The built-in retro games are free and a blast. Loved the added board games and nostalgia down to the red goblet wine glasses. Feedback: some regulars (which is good to have) came off as territorial. Not moving so people could play games acting as if customers were nousence...if it wasn't for the awesome welcoming bartender it would have been deterring. Having l

The vibes were amazing. There aren't many places I'd feel safe drinking alone in, and this would be one of them!

Great little arcade bar. Friendly staff, plenty of board/card games to choose from, and even retro consoles built in to the bar table with a good amount of games to choose from!

Loved this bar! My boyfriend doesn't like to drink but I do so it was a great way to still bond and enjoy time together. Everyone was so nice and the blue shell drink was amazing!!

I met up with a group of coworkers here and we had a great time. Bartender was super cool. It's a small place but we still had plenty of room for the 20 of us and our 6ft sub. Thank you for letting us hang out. We will return.

Cool place! I drove over from Spokane to try it out with a friend and was impressed. Loved all the games to play and good friendly service. Check it out if you haven't. I'll be back!

This place is AWESOME! I got to sip the Blue Shell's namesake cocktail and play Super Mario Bros 3 on an emulator with the classic NES controller. There were also a ton of arcade games and pinball! The music was mostly 90s rock and industrial that fed my nostalgia further, and apparently they even have D&D groups! I am definitely going back.

Went here to check out the pinball machines. Great prices, great drinks for really just being a mixture of canned concoctions and syrups, and we didn't have a bad interaction with any staff or customers. It was really just a bar that I felt I could go into and chill if I lived here. Also give a discount if you're a service industry worker, which was an unexpected surprise for my husband and I.

This is such a neat space! The game selection is good, for board games, arcade games, and retro games built into the bartop. It was a bit quiet on a Wednesday evening, but I'm sure it's a fantastic place on weekends. Seems like a good place to bring a date and challenge them for a high score...

Great atmosphere- if you are from the 80's to early 2000's, you will feel right at home in this Retro Barcade. Tons of games on the wall, active and engaged staff who work in a place they themselves would and do hang out at. Love this place, be sure to checkout all the events they do throughout the year

Super great place, lots of board games, retro video games, and arcade games. Just opened up and there were a good number of people on the opening night, less people earlier in the day (able to have a big table and play full rounds of Catan), so it'll be great for any any level of crowd. Definitely recommend. Owners are obviously super cool too.

If you like playing games and having a drink, this place is the place to go! The bar tender was awesome! She had the perfect blend of waiting our table and letting us play games. Food was good, prices accordingly, and they have your standard drinks to pick from. Grab a game or a deck and a few friends and get going to this place already!

My coworkers introduced me to this bar, and I enjoyed every moment I spent there with them. The food is good. The drinks are superb, and the atmosphere is inviting and friendly. The staff are also welcoming, professional, and made me feel right at home, as though the bar was their personal residence and I was an esteemed guest. The feel of the place is what I love most about it! I look forward to visiting again!

Super fun bar, great people, fun video games and delicious beer

Large tables in the back for d&d or magic, fun drinks, and good quick food! Staff has always been pleasant, and they have pleanty of arcade games, board games, and choices of drinks. Always got something fun going on the tv too! Highly recommend joining the discord for event announcements like mtg drafts, mini painting nights, and much more!

Great place to hang with some friends and play games, love the arcade game they have there!

A great place to hang out. They have a lot of different video, arcade, and board games. I was there for a mini painting event and it was a lot of fun.

Excellent staff! Super fun & friendly place. Appreciated bartender/ server, Chase!

Nice place, just no Foosball table. Has not been any for years.

Can't say enough good things about the Blue Shell. It's our go to place for a fun night out. It's perfect for adult gamer types. We enjoy all the costume events, paint and pints, and just playing board games. We are always welcomed in a friendly familiar way and the bar food is always hot and delicious. It's a cool joint!

Best bar in town and my favorite place to bring friends!! The staff in always so kind and friendly and they throw the funnest parties!

The vibe is incredible! Beer is also fantastic. They have a huge selection of games to play that fit all audiences and skill levels. They have board games, video games, and game machines. Super cool will be back!

A great place to play pinball, a few arcade games (not a huge selection), in-bar 'retro' systems like nes, Sega Genesis, Nintendo, tons of board games with an area in the back to play them. Several beers on tap and surprisingly good finger food with a good selection of sauce options!

Great place. I don't really like seltzers, but they had me try Orange Smash. It's a game changer. The most unbelievably tasty seltzer on the planet. But eh, don't bother with the food. It's straight up gross, and they didn't even cook it all the way. Still, there is an awesome variety of beverages and games. I'm thankful there's a space for the RP crowd in the back. Brought back memories when I used to play D&D.

Good service, bartender on Sunday was stellar fellow. Pins could be better maintained, way off bubble!! But otherwise, very good vibes.

This place is amazing! Such a fun atmosphere! Good for a group of friends or a date night. Either way, you're in for a great night! Service there is 10/10 and the staff is super helpful and kind. If you stop in, make sure you try the donut holes!!!

great place to hang out with your friend talk about gaming play pinball and even do some dnd

This place is awesome. Described to me as a bar for people that hate bars. I'm not old enough to be a "boomer", but old enough to remember when most of these arcade games first came out. Wish they would have had places like this when I was younger. Don't like arcade games? No problem, as they have a ton of board games or card games that you can take to a table. Into MTG or D&D? There is room for that too. Awesome Place, Awesome Concept, Awesome People. Thank you.

This is coolest little place in town. Great place to come play board games card games, and they have such a huge supply I'm sure they'll have whatever it is you want to play already. Plus the built-in arcade games, and the old school video game consoles directly into the bar are super fun. Just last week I crushed Streets of Rage 2. Of course, they have a thoughtful selection of local beers, ciders, and sours, and they're open pretty late, all of which adds up to a pretty dope night with your friends.

Had a really good time here...its very low key, the staff is fantastic, and the place was very clean and well kept!! I had a couple friends in from out of town and we decided to go check it out, the beer selection was pretty good, and the finger foods were a nice touch. Loved the board games, and the pinball machines. Will definitely be going back sooner than later!

Incredibly unique atmosphere, arcade games, over 200 board games, 16 taps, and some of the best bartenders in the area. What more could you want?

Love playing cards with friends at the Blue Shell. The beer is refreshing.

CDAs barcade with a huge selection of boardgames and other entertainment. The staff is superb and they consistently have a great selection of rotating taps. They serve some snack foods, and have some good food options nearby (relic BBQ right next door, Moontime down the street). The parking is mostly sidestreet but still really close. They don't yet have a liquor license, but they have canned mixed drinks if that's your thing.

Really awesome place and a really fun menu and arcade games. Will definitely be returning.

Never have I entered a building and immediately felt at home. The atmosphere is intoxicating and tantalizing, the staff are genuine and humble. Everything about the Blue Shell is how game bar should be. The owners have succeeded in creating a safe place for all to be themselves and disguis socialize. I'm always excited at the idea of showing new people the bar or even just going there myself. You can play arcade games, pinball, there's old school console games built into the bar, and a huge back room for an

What a cool joint on the East end of Sherman Ave! The place is bigger than it appears on the outside. Very friendly and attentive staff. We never had an empty glass the whole night. This gamer bar had some old school classic arcades, a couple pinball machines, and a plethora of board and card games on hand. The stylish gamer tables in the back room can comfortably seat 8-10 friends or family for hours of fun. Can even order bbq next door at Relic and have it delivered. Super into the vibe here and will be b

Staff is very friendly. Seating is great. Drinks are fun and themed. Wide selection of games. Big enough tables for large tap top games for groups. Perfect spot for a game night with fellow adults!

The place is a awesome. A friendly staff that offers a great alternative to a weekend bar crawl. Gather your friends, sit down and enjoy a board/arcade game with a great selection of domestic and local beers.

if you are into Nintendo, Sega ECT this is the place for you, if you love bored games this is the place for you and pinball machines and other fun machines this is the place for you, and good Beer.

Not too slow, not too busy, The Blue Shell is CdAs best bar for just enjoying an evening, meeting folks and having a good time. I've lived in CdA for 25 years and this is the sort of bar and community I always wish we'd had when I was younger. I'm beyond glad y'all are here and I can't wait to be a regular this winter.

Just okay. It's not a bad spot by any means, but it's a bit more geared towards table top gamers I feel. Was hoping for a bit more variety when it comes to the actual arcade side of things & drinks. Better than nothing for a small town though.

First day being officially open and it was amazing! The staff were super awesome! Great drinks, food, and an awesome selection of board games and old school arcade! Definitely a place to nerd out!

Excellent staff and a fun atmosphere! Blue Shell delivers on the nostalgia, and with their selection of board games and game hall in the back, it's a great place to go spend a couple hours to get your game on with your friends and a few beers!

Beer has been flat both times I have showed up. Commenting on it does nothing. The games are fun though. Edit: I appreciate the honest feedback and have changed the rating. I am looking forward to visiting again.

One of the best places I found in Coeur d'Alene really relaxed and you can play a board game if you want you can go out on the patio and they got the vintage 80s and 90s video games and pinball machines and the staff are really friendly and great and the drinks aren't bad either I'd suggest the blue shell

Awesome place. Fun and interesting drinks, and they have a good games selection. Played metal slug 3 for 2 hours and drank PBR 10/5 stars.

Super fun little bar. I love that they have arcade games and table top games. I highly recommend ??????? also when you go play the card game unstable unicorns ???? it's great

Enjoy some awesome arcade games or a old school console game built right into the bar with a local craft beer or gussied up canned cocktail. Bring your friends and enjoy some board games, Trading Card Games, or a session of DnD in the spacious alcove booths. This is the geek oriented adult hangout that CDA has been missing..

I shouldn't be leaving a good review because i dont want to flood this place too much...i need to make sure i always have a table. Lol! This place is super cool! And the staff is super awesome! And if you want something different and better than "the norm" the. This isa the place!

The bartender last night was great! It felt like this bar is the bar I talked to my friends about while playing games over the years and yall made it a reality!

This place is the best. I went with my sister to play a table top game and it was such a fun, friendly, inviting bar. I'll definitely be back!

Beautiful bar, arcade games at front half. Quiet back half with nice woodworking on the booths and tables. Also a hidden outdoor area that wasn't noticeable.

Awesome place for nostalgia, video games and a beer. I dislike beer, but maybe you don't. Room to game in the back. Great service

Great atmosphere! Arcade games, board/card games, vintage console games, great drinks, awesome having areas. So much fun!! Highly recommend!

Awesome place for gamers of any kind. Huge board game or D&D tables, retro video games, stand up arcade games and great service! The best place to hang out!

Real cool crew they rock!!! Kick back mellow locals into games and gaming old school consoles built into bar no charge ! Sweet arcade games .and pinball machines are getting better!

I come here regularly as this is the closest bar to the fire station for us. Great music, friendly staff, good beer and cocktails, not to mention the games to keep you entertained!

Fun retro bar with relaxing vibe and nice patrons. If your into 90s vibe, you've found your happy place.

Good people, good beer. My favorite place to unwind in the evening for a game and a drink. Great place to meet friends!

About the best thing going on East Sherman. Good local vibe quality friendly people. Modern pinball machines. Spectacular ladies night

Honestly love going to this place, the atmosphere is pleasant and even for a person like me who isn't huge into fantasy board games, it's a great place to go

Great little bar, fun people.

Amazing! Huge selection of board games, lots of consoles to go around, giant tables for plenty of play space. Great atmosphere!

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are retro games in arcades still good in this modern age?

Absolutely, retro games in arcades remain a thrilling draw in 2025! Classics like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Street Fighter II offer simple yet addictive gameplay, blending nostalgia with timeless challenge. Modern arcade cabinets often feature crisp displays and restored controls, enhancing the experience. These games thrive on quick reflexes and strategy, with vibrant pixel art and iconic soundtracks that spark joy. Arcades host tournaments and leaderboards, fostering a lively community. While modern games dominate, retro titles provide a unique, accessible thrill that keeps arcades buzzing.
