Taos Youth & Family Center

Taos Youth & Family Center

Reviews Summary

The Taos Youth and Family Center receives mostly positive feedback, with many praising its diverse amenities (pool, ice rink, skatepark, arcade) and friendly staff. The facility is seen as a valuable community resource, especially for families. However, some criticize inconsistent pool hours and poor maintenance, particularly at the skatepark, which is described as outdated and hazardous. The ice rink is a standout feature, while the pool's limited availability frustrates some visitors. Most agree it's a great value for the price, though a few feel certain areas need improvement or better management. Ratings skew high (mostly 4-5 stars), but occasional 1-star reviews highlight recurring issues with closures and upkeep.

Customer Reviews

This family center is great for this community.if you are visiting for hockey be aware that the arena is not fully closed off. Most of the outside walls are partially if not fully open,so it gets pretty cold for the spectators. See photos. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but something to definitely be aware of.

DON'T BOTHER. POOL IS CONSTANTLY CLOSED EVEN DURING OPEN HOURS. THEY ARE ONLY OPEN FOR REC SWIM 3 DAYS A WEEK FOR ONLY 2 HOURS AND SO WE PLANNED DAYS AHEAD TO BE THERE BUT THE POOL WAS CLOSED FOR NO REASON. WE DROVE A LONG WAY AND THEY WERE THERE BUT NOPE WE'RE CLOSED BECAUSE WE DON'T FEEL LIKE WORKING I GUESS. IT'S NOT THE FIRST TIME EITHER. DEFUND THIS POOL IT'S A TOTAL WASTE. COMPLETELY USELESS. TERRIBLE MISMANAGEMENT FROM THE TOP

Had a wonderful weekend playing at the tournament here the weekend of March 8-10. A very nice facility in a great lil' town. Can't wait to come back next year!

Don't bother going to this skatepark. It is a mediocre design in a state of total disrepair. The concrete is totally destroyed rendering it unskateable. I'm amazed this park was built by Site Design Group because it looks like the work of a local contractor. We tried to skate the adjacent ice rink (during the summer when it's just smooth shaded concrete) but we were immediately kicked out. Poor Taos, the artsy community with nowhere to skate.

I've been coming here for a couple of months now and have nothing but GREAT things to say about the youth center. Tony, Elias, Janelle, Izzy, and Norman are always willing to help and are always friendly and informative. The gym is super clean, as are the bathrooms and everything. This team is constantly on the move with a spray pottle of disinfectant and a wipe! Thank you excellent TEAM .

$30 for 60 lap or rec swims and they just put blue light technology in the pool. I am exceedingly grateful for this rec center. It is a blessing to our children in Taos. There is a skate rink, pool, shuffleboard, games, hot therapy pool and room to reserve for birthdays.

Nice community center for Taos, well maintained the facilities, clean, organizer, friendly staff. Was a good visit for us, first time. Swimming pool area is excellent ??.

Incredible youth and cultural center. Amazing caring folks and rad skatepark. Support da youth! Skatepark needs some love!

The Taos Youth and Family Center is more than just an ice hockey rink! There's a big swimming pool here, and a recreation area with table tennis. If you are camping in the area, you can come here and pay a couple of bucks to take a shower in the locker room. Water is hot in those showers and there's no time limit on your shower. The Youth and Family Center is a great community resource.

This place was very accommodating for the ice hockey tournament they held. When you walk in you are greeted with a large game room that still costs reasonable to lower than average prices, fun seating, and a snack bar. They had security and police on scene for the unruly hockey parents (many had to get escorted off the premises) but all went with minimal issue. The only downside by the ice arena is the draftiness from the winds but that is to be expected in a partially outdoor rink.

Moved to Taos June 1,2024, everyone kept telling me about the youth center, finally convinced myself to go check it out for my granddaughters, after church on Sunday I took them by and they absolutely loved it, they had a blast. Gonna try to do this for them every weekend, God willing.

Swimming, game room, ice skating, skate park, the kids enjoy all activities offered here, always a great place to go when looking to get the kiddos out of the house and keep them busy!

Its nice but there is alot of kids that act loke gangsters there.

The only place in Taos for kids birthday parties and fun!

The ice rink ice is immaculate!

Review of the lap swim ? great value. At $3 the lowest drop-in fee I've seen anywhere in the country. Nice, uncrowded pool with mountain views. Call to check on hours, there was an additional afternoon lap swim that I didn't see on the website, so I was glad I checked.

This park rides really well. The cement is very old and weathered so parts are very bad and dangerous. But they do their best to fix and patch through the year. It's the beast and only park in town so worth a stop in!!

Swimming was great. water was at a good tempature and chlorine levels were minimal. I am sensitive to chlorine so avoid pools. But had no effect how to enjoy more often.

Great staff!! Great place for my son to be!! Love it!!

Our last trip of just a week ago went really well. It was Hockey season so watched my nephew play there. The facilities for Hockey is good and skating when no games are on. The swimming pool is great for the community too. Great place for our kids. Wish I could bring it back home to England quite honestly.

Plenty of indoor games for kids, outdoor playground seems nice. Was snowy outside to try it out. The restroom is clean and well maintains. Semi outdoor rink is average.

Place is great! Come hang out with fam here. My kids love the pool, the rinks sweet and the skate parks fun..

Staff was super unhelpful. I was willing to pay any amount to use a shower. They told me I had to pay for the pool and literally enter the pool before I could use their shower. Unfortunately, the pool wasn't open for another 2 hours. I was the only person in the place and the friendly thing to do would have been to just let me pay some amount and use the shower. Instead, they were as unfriendly as possible and showed me the door.

Quaint little place. The pool was fun. There was a water slide and a therapy pool whoch was closed at the time. As I went during a church activity, it was rather crowded. But still tons of fun to play in

Fantastic place for free or very cheap FUN. Played pickleball with locals and tourists from Kansas. Loads of fun! We had 3 courts playing. From age 55-84. We need some teens to whip us into shape

Nice facility nice staff. Really fun tournament the Durango ice devils are having a good time and so are the families.

Ice Skating rink and huge, heated indoor pool (with 3 water slides).... both awesome fun on a cold winter day...call ahead to check on open swim times but its worth it. Giant lap pool becomes playground for kids. if you're coming in as a Tourist... no worries, its about $3 for adults and $2 for kids for the day to swim. Skating is a deal too. The people of Taos are lucky to have a complex like this and it was fun for the whole family.

My friend Renee took me to water aerobics. Great place for all ages. Friendly staff. Utilize this asset the Town of Taos has to offer ??

Taos Youth and Family Center is honestly quite a disappointment. The pool is not worth the cost, the hot tub remains unopen most of the time. It is nice that they include a skate park but it's nothing special, just the only available skate park in Taos. The skating rink is by far the nicest activity here and it is relatively cheap. Otherwise not much to do.

Great prices for swimming, ice skating, roller blading...and small arcade with outside skate rink has something for everyone. Plus there's a new small gym area with weights & machines!

Nah, it's not a wall mural/painting ... it's a beautiful mountain backdrop to this great rink/rec center. Lots of games/snacks for kids too!

The activities are pretty exceptional, however the service is always terrible. The people are unkind, and they always act like things that happen are your fault. For example when one of the machines takes your money, they refuse to give you any compensation because its "not there problem".

Shannon was so sweet to take my picture so people would believe I skated at 65 years young! We visited and truly was encouraging! I always will come back!

Skatepark is beyond repair and borderline un-skate-able unless you really watch out for rocks and cracks. Previously attempted concrete patchwork is coming up from the ground and presents its own problems. The skateboarding and all other recreation involving small wheels wants a new skatepark in Taos from approximately a dozen or more people I've spoke with, exponentially. To the conclusion that an indoor/ outdoor skatepark would be best. Everything else at the Y&FC is top notch.

Touch a Truck was a fabulous experience! All the vendor tables were very focused on the children and their needs.

Fun place for the kids to play. They host all of the family events and the crew there are all friendly and helpful!!! Come out and ice skate or swim or both!!!

They will not allow you to use the showers and you have to schedule time plus there are no free parts it's a community center and the staff is very unfriendly so how are these people open if they can't get their act together I should give no stars but Google won't let me

Great community center, playground, game room

Excellent facility. Warm and caring staff. Great water aerobics classes and lane swimming w coaching available. Simply, all you could ask for.

Great pool for a family swim day. The kids also like ice skating. The room for party's is a bit small. But will do for smal km get togethers.

I love our youth and family center. Always offering a safe, affordable place for our kids

Great place to take the kids out and have fun away from the TVs and mobile devices.. swimming, skate park and rink, with new and improved arcade area..

Albuquerque needs a place like this. My kids were able to swim, play pool, ping pong, video games and roller blade while our family had lunch together for a reunion.

The skatepark is really in need of some maintenance and virtually unskateable in parts. Cool park tho.

This is probably the best family center in New Mexico. It has a superb ice skating rink, and an amazing Olympic-sized pool. This place is GREAT!

Great place to soak, and grab a shower! Very clean locker room, and friendly staff! It's always a good find when you stumble upon a nice place to clean up!

Great place to chill out. Video games and computers. Device charging stations. Small skate park in back. Swimming pool and shoewers plus a roller blade rink and basketball.... lots to do here.

It's a shame Taos hasn't done any upkeep or maintenance on this park... Concrete is chipping away and is mostly unskateable in its current condition.

Very effective staff they are very attentive I got a little light headed in the therapy pool and the life guard Venessa right away had another staff member with short blonde hair get me some water and she ran to get me the water and kept an eye on me till my light headenss went away.??

Really cool place. This is really great for people travelling through the area or camping in the area as you can get a nice hot shower for $2.

Fun fun fun. Bring small bills for arcade & vending machines. The ice is in great shape. The staff is helpful and great!

The place is ok. Seems like it needs alot of updating. They've got the swimming pool under some kind of renovation so lets hope its done well and quick.

Played roller derby here. It's a hockey rink. works for derby, seems better suited for hockey

My husband would go here a few times a week while we were in the area to swim. He loved the skate park there too.

Great place to kick back relax and play pool or shoot some ball the swimming pool is off the chain staff is nosey but cool guess it's apart of the job...

Oh my kids just love it and they go to swim and play games and play pool and they have plenty of arts and crafts activities and their skating and ice skating just amazing

Taos High school 2021-22 prom. It was amazing to see the students have a great time. Music was by DJ Victor.

The Taos Rec Center is amazing for such a small town! I am in love with it! And the water aerobics classes are wonderful!

Very clean, nice updated lockers, friendly staff. Outdoor patio for sun bathing.

Awesome place if your homeless and need a shower you can take a shower there for $2 as long as you need and want. Very friendly staff

Lots of fun for the kids and adults. Not too expensive, $2-5 an activity, plus video games, ping pong, air hockey, etc.

Took the kids for their first time ice skating. Super kind and helpful staff! Lots of fun!!

A great place to take the family. Ice skating, swimming, video games and a skate park make this one of the best stops for kids here in Taos.

Wonderful resource for the Taos community. Friendly, caring and devoted staff. Nice facilities open to the public.

Nice facility. Pool was great and having an ice arena was pretty neat. Staff was great

Cool place to have a birthday or kids celebration if you don't have the space.

Rink is not fully enclosed, so can get cold. No heaters. Staff very friendly.

Been around 10 yrs since my last visit, and it's still really fun. Friendly staff.

Nice clean friendly place. To take your kids swimming.

Its a great place to have birthday partys and to play some fun games with the family

A really well cared for bowl park. Friendly locals.

They have showers so if you are a Nomad like me then you can clean yourself up.

Signed up my kiddos for swim lessons. $40 for 4 lessons is a great price!

It's alright for a small town. There's a pool and skating rink as well as a couple of arcade games.

Very good had fun with the kids and played arcade games.

Great place for the kids to have fun professional safe environment

Life guards are to dramatic.. we wish there was a driving section and there is to may stupid rules.

Pool, skateboard park, ice/roller skating rink, video games, shuffleboard, ping pong, so much fun!

Very Fun Rink. We had a bast here and the people are super friendly.

i went here a year ago, just remembering it now. nice place.

Dont come here expecting to swim from the 27th - 31. Would have been nice to know.

The pool was full and there were two lifeguards sitting around. Waste of time to come and sit around for it to close.

Great place cheap showers and wildlife

$3 to swim. $2 to take a shower. Good price for a shower.

A great and safe place for community activities

My son takes swimming classes here. He is also a member of the Taos Special Olympics swim team.

Could be great...but you're in Taos so get used to ?ok?.

Great activities. WiFi is excellent for Taos. High Speed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are pool tables in arcades still good in this modern age?

Yes, pool tables in arcades remain a fantastic draw in 2025! Games like 8-ball or 9-ball offer tactile, skill-based fun that blends strategy and precision. Modern tables feature smooth felt, responsive cues, and vibrant designs, enhancing the classic experience. Arcades foster a social vibe with casual matches or competitive tournaments, appealing to all skill levels. Unlike digital games, pool’s physicality—lining up shots, feeling the cue’s weight—keeps it timeless.
