A pinhead's paradise. A couple dozen well maintained tables that all played great. Older classics and brand new releases. Working restroom and helpful staff.
Me and my 11 year old son stopped in. We both had a blast. Pinball machines in great shape, everything was in top working order. Very nostalgic - and to have my son enjoy it too was a huge bonus.
This place is awesome. I think Lloyd is the owners name. First time in here and me and some friends had an awesome night. Very affordable and very nice atmosphere. Overall 10/10. I'll come here once a month now at least thanks Lloyd!
Great pinball selection! Very kind owner. Very nostalgic 80's small business feel. Will definitely go back and bring friends. Good for kids too.
Fun place with LOTS of machines. Games are more affordable than many other locations. I try to stop by here whenever I'm in the area. Stop and chat with the owner if you can. He's fantastic.
Came for the pool but was pleasantly surprised by the impressive collection of pins. Everything was very reasonably priced. Will come back if in the area again.
Another great adventure at S S. Hilton hotel nearby so this works great for travelling for work. Pulp Fiction is dominating. Total package.
What a great little pinball and pool hall. Tucked away in the suburbs, it's worth the drive from the city to come check out SS Billiards. With most of the new pinball releases in good working order, this is a must see for pinball fans. Lloyd was friendly and had us entertained with good stories. I'll definitely be back.
Friendly owner and his pup are usually there to welcome you in. This place reminds me of the arcades my dad took me to in the early 90s. Very nostalgic. Great vibes, good prices. Bring a bag of quarters and just relax and play pinball or billards.
If you want to play great pinballs at a good price this is the place. You could tell that the owner takes pride in these pins as most look super tiptop shape. Brought my kid to play a few pins and they had literally all the great machines except Godzilla. The owner was very friendly and even talked to my son. Told him how to cook a burger because my son said he wanted to be a chef and my kid loved it! I just wish the taxi was in better shape I was looking into buying one and it was one of the reasons I came
Had a great experience at SS. I came in with some friends and we met a beautiful lady there to shoot with! Thanks Lloyd!
I've been going to Lloyd's since a couple years after I moved to the metro, so since like 2005. It's always been freaking great. Went again today for the first time in awhile, and his greeter pooch is still around and still adorable! I'm just so happy that SS is still here and so thankful for Lloyd and Prada and that there is still a place to go and play excellently upkept machines with tight flippers and clean, bright displays. LOVE IT. Thank you, Lloyd!
Really cools spot. Can bring food and drinks inside. Just make sure to bring cleaning wipes as when we picked up the pool sticks they felt greasy. Owner has a friendly cat that will beg for food if you have it.
Awesome place. Very clean good environment. Lots of fully functional vintage pinball games
Great pinball destination with a huge variety of games and price points. Family-friendly, clean, laid back, and lots of pinball. I was surprised at the amount of modern machines were available, including the new Godfather game. All were well maintained and clean. The owner is friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Games were affordable and enjoyable. Whether you're new to pinball or a long-time player, this place has something to offer. Tip: Bring cash. The ice cream shop next door is a bonus.
My dad used to come here all the time with my uncles. He'd bring my cousin and I with and we'd play with the pinball machines and other cool games they had at the time. That had to be a little over 12 years ago now. We were almost regulars there that the owner would give us quarters here and there so we could continue playing ?? Glad to see this place is still doing great ??
I went with my family, and I wasn't expecting much at first since I don't enjoy pinball, but that changed tonight! There's an excellent selection of classic machines, the owner is so kind and the dog, Prada, is a very cute furbaby that definitely fits her name. I will come again, possibly with some friends from school.
Great place to check out whether you are a pinball enthusiast or novice. Well maintained tables for an affordable price. Lloyd, the owner, is a friendly and knowledgeable person who is great to strike up a conversation with. Adorable and friendly dog as well! Make sure you bring cash or change for the machines!
Used to go here as a teen back in the 90?s so great to see it still around. Fun place to go back then, still looks like an awesome place. Lloyd was the owner I believe. It would be awesome to know if he still is running the place.
Super laid back, kid friendly. The space itself is nothing special but clearly investments have been made in the most current pinball machines. Pool tables in good condition. I took my kids in there around dinner time and it was not busy, assume as the sunsets it gets more active but the quiet atmosphere was welcomed by our family.
Came here for the first time last night, the owner is super kind and his dog is the sweetest little lady. The pool tables are in impressive condition, as are the sticks. It's very evident that he takes pride in his business.
Pretty chill experience and the owner is very easy going. He gave us a deal on our tables at the end of the night as well.
Tons of pinball machines and pool tables at a great price. Be aware it is cash only, but there is an ATM at the convenience store a few doors down. The person who was working there (I believe the owner) was super nice. Tables in good condition and pinball as well. Read the surprisingly detailed and interesting "about us" on their website. I'm just glad places like this exist.
Been coming here ever since I was a kid. Being 25 now and this place is always a great time to just play some pool and pinball. Although Lloyd always wants to charge me $2,000 for some reason :D
I've been here a few times and can honestly say I love it. No-nonsense poolhall and pinball, dished out by an owner who cashes your change in a charming way. The pinball selection is seriously unmatched in this condition. The Tilt and Updown environment doesn't compare. His small dog is cute too. The pool ball tables look good. It is a very small business that has been there for ages and needs some much deserved love.
Awesome place with some seldom-seem pinball machines like Big Bang Bar, Monster Bash, both Pirates of the Caribbean. It is quiet enough to hear the amazing sounds of the pinball. Other places in Twin Cities we have been to are so loud with other machines and music blaring that you cannot hear your own pinball machine. The owner is a great guy and actually a legend in the US pinball community. He had a lot of stories to share about the pinball world. Will be going back many times
Was there again tonight after Twins game. Lloyd is great his machines are in great condition! I recommend SS to anyone because it is a throwback to how places were when we were kids.... with modern pins. Top notch selection and service! Was at SS Again last night 9/6/2020. Clean great working machines and great service.
The atmosphere was good and there were plenty fun pinball machines, however it was lacking quite a bit of amenities that other pinball locations had. Amenities such as bathrooms and a machine to convert cards or cash into quarters. Bring lots of quarters beforehand. You currently need to go to the owner to change cash only into quarters to play. Two out of the four times I went to the counter he had left to walk his dog or was in a long conversation with people ignoring the line to the counter.
Lloyd is a good guy. He keeps a nice pinball and Billiards hall. We will keep coming back.
I am not an arcade enthusiast. Just someone looking for a great place to have a date night where we can actually DO something together. We liked it so much we took our kids the next week. LOVE it that it doesn't have alcohol so I don't mind my kids going there on their dates either. This classic "joint" is worth more than 5 stars.
I've been going to Lloyd at SS Billiards since I first learned about it in 2003 and just recently took my 7 year old son there. In the last 20 years of playing pinball, the thrill hasn't changed and I'm very thankful for a place like SS Billiards to exist. It offers a unique atmosphere with fun games that is quite cheap in the grand scheme of things. The games are always in good repair (and if they're not, Lloyd is quick to fix them). Don't take my word for it, stop by and see for yourself!
The family went for some pinball. We had a blast! The best part is machines had a deal when we needed more than 1 credit. It made for some good competition!
One of my favorite places for a low key hang out in the Twin cities. Once you walk in you are welcomed by the owner's dog Prada and Lloyd himself. A great selection of pinball games and 5 full size pool tables for play.
Laid back place, only a vending machine for snacks, good pool tables. Old school vibe. We played pool for over an hour but the owner charged us for less time. I can see why this place has good reviews. Definitely a nice place to take your kid or hang out outside of a bar.
Great place with modern machines. The owner is onsite for any issues and has 50 plus years in the arcade business which makes for great conversation. anyone who likes pinball should make this a stop on their bucket list.
If you love pinball, this is your place! I can't believe I've never written a review for him! The machines are all 100% working and meticulously maintained! I try to stop in every time I'm in the area... Go. Play. Relax. Enjoy! Pool is a thing there too, just not my thing. ;)
Good prices, great customer service, & friendly people. The equipment is in good condition and the staff takes care of you. I once put too much money in a pinball machine and the owner informed me I still had credits after switching games. :)
Friendly little Prada keeps the place safe like all loyal watch dogs. Nice atmosphere and lots of pinball machines. Very friendly proprietor always there to help. PEACE ??
What they have outweighs how it's displayed but even that's not bad by any means. Met at door by sweetest little pup. Employee (owner?) Was funny and personable. Many pool tables and pinball machines. Average prices. Almost 5 stars!
Outstanding pinball! Machines perfectly maintained by a master who takes pride in his equipment. All rubber is tight and new, all lights, bumpers and plungers in working order. Such great entertainment that may not be around much longer. Hopefully, with these kind of people and places, it will survive for our children.
Unexpected hole in the wall (and a decades-long local institution!) with billiards and a selection of neat pinball games. Very reasonable prices. The bathroom is a bit sketchy, so avoid if you need things like a mirror or paper towels.
Awesome place to play pinball and pool. Located in the strip mall off of 11th Avenue. A cute white dog named Prada will meet you as you come in. He's friendly and open to belly-rubs. Rent a pool table for a few hours for under $20. Pin ball games cost anywhere from 25 cents to 75 cents. Would highly recommend this spot for a night out or date night.
I love playing Pinball at a plac where the actual owner works and has a genuine love of pinball! Nice selection games always coming and going and a relaxed environment! Any questions? Ask the guy behind the counter because he'll know! Check it out and have some fun!
This is a unique business. I appreciate being able to play pool on a 9ft table (only place that I know of in the area). They are a bit worn, but playable. This isn't a bar, which is nice for some quality table time.
I should love a place with large pool tables and legit pinball machines. But SS is missing on the details. The place is empty. The door was locked when I got there in the middle of the day. It smells like dog. The rails of the pool tables are dead; balls make a terrible thud sound when they bounce irregularly off the rails. The rail covers are poorly installed and the tables aren't very level. One can't just recover the table and not do the rails. I didn't even use the scary bathroom. The lighting is hideou
The pinball machines are all in excellent condition, couldn't find a single problem with the dozen of them I played. Really neat collection too.
Nice cozy, fun place. Welcomed by the owner and his really cute dog. Nice pool tables and amazing selection of pinball games even some rare old ones. Very reasonably priced billiards and pinball.
Nice selection of newer pinball tables, and many classics too. There's pool if you're into that. A lone-60-in-one arcade machine with golden-era 80s games is his only video game offering. It would have to see a Neo Geo or street fighter arcade video game.
Great selection of pinball. Prices are fair and machines are set up very nice. Owner is very friendly as well!
The perfect place for the billiard/pinball player! (and yes there is high overlap in these two activities) great rates on the slate tables and cheap plays on the glass tables! PIN-thusiasts can also enjoy great pinball related lore from the walls.
Can't recommend this place enough :)
Came in to play some pinball. Read reviews saying plays were expensive. If you want to know it's $0.75 to $1 per 3 ball play on most machines. Was slightly disappointed in that some of the functionality of the machines were not up to snuff. The Pirates of the Caribbean machine the sails didn't flop down like the should on the boat, on dialed in the phone did not work at all and in wizard of oz the play field GI lights were dimmed so low we could not see the ball on the play field, it was nearly impossible t
Nice little spot in Hopkins to play pool or their pinball machines the guy working their was super friendly and has a cute little dog that's hangs out with him 1 hour for 8 bucks what a deal
Nice place to play pool. Nice tables. Also no alcohol so it's a decent place without the madness in a bar. Mostly family place . Prices as of this review are $8 for an hour of pool for 1 to 4 players
$8 will get you an hour of pool. Pinball has a great variety and prices are great. Next door in the strip mall is great street tacos, gyros, Chinese and an ice cream shop is opening soon.
I go to SS Billiards all the time with my dad and we have a great time. You pay a lot less to play amazing games, unlike other pinball places that are overpriced. P.S. the dog Prada loves belly rubs!
great place for some billards and a few hard to find pinball. i would have spent twice as much money if the games were better maintained. The standard may be a little higher now with places like Tilt and Up Down. I'm critical though. the twilight zone machine needs wok. the game is altered. an after market bumper creates a dead end( right side in front). you'll see it because it makes no sense to have. also if you have 75 cent machines. give the player a 5 second shoot again.....some thing.... anything.
Quality well maintained games, very knowledgable owner always present. Plus the most friendly resident dog you can imagine - she loves attention (especially chest rubs!)
Owner is friendly, very clean facility, wide variety of pinball games, all around good time. Will definitely be going back.
Amazing place to go for fun. Big variety of pinball machines and tons of pool! The owner is a very nice guy who really knows his stuff when it comes to the machines. GO HERE!!:)
My wife and I went to SS Billiards for a date night, and had a ton of fun playing pool and pinball! I highly recommend visiting if you are looking for an affordable place to hang-out and play some games.
My high school years I spent lots of hrs playing games here I'm almost 41 and still enjoying this place for the games in a small area. Especially after school I stopped over and played games
Always a good time visiting SS Billiards, Llyod is nice and his little dog (Prada) is friendly and always looking for a belly rub. Plenty of pinball games to choose from, with some new and old ones. 5 pool tables to use so if most of the pinball are in use you can always pay for an hour of pool and jump on pinball after. Classic arcade game too with many choices like donkey kong, Pac man, galiga, dig dug, frogger and many more. Good place to come hang out for a bit with friends or bring the kids and let th
Good tables, friendly owner/staff, reasonable table rates. Note: CASH ONLY.
Nice place not crowded don't really have food or drink there besides a vending machine but that's the only thing it's missing other then that it's a great place a decent amount of pinball machines old to newer models
Might be a secret gem. Owner operator for 50 years. Has been pivotal in the world pinball scene. Make the trip- worth it! And tell Prada, the dog, Kenny said hi.
Ok. There are too few places to shoot pool in the west twin city burbs, too start. SS IS IN HOPKINS, MN. The owner is great to converse with, & grew up in N.E. Mpls. His forte is pinball & there are plenty of machines. check it out
This place is super cool and chill. Never crowded. Many pool tables and tons of classic and new, top of the line pinball tables. An inexpensive night out.
Horrible experience. I have a medical exemption from wearing a mask approved by my doctor. The owner demanded that I wear one. When I said I was exempt, He ACTUALLY asked me what my medical condition was. I said I don't have to disclose that. He then kicked me out.
Great place with a solid selection, a really nice owner and a sweet doggo. For a fun easter egg check out all the pictures of doggo on the pinball machine screens.
Such a fun place to go with very well cared for Pinball Machines. The owner always makes you feel so welcomed.
This place has nearly 20 fully functioning machines and an owner who is super friendly! I would highly recommend coming here. Play pinball with the locals.
Me and my son love to come here! Just moved to the area. Great place and cheap!! Owner is very friendly and super clean environment.
Been going there for about 30 years. Great little spot for pinball, pool, arcade
I didn't realize this place was still around. I spent countless hours playing pool here in high school. I loved this place! I can't wait to come back a relive my high school days.
Great space to hangout without a large crowd. Pinball is fun and pool tables are $8 an hour not by person.
Great rhetoric. Those who know what that means will understand. Great atmosphere!
Great atmosphere, reasonably priced, could use some new lights... (kidding) The owner is friendly and helpful, (Even when you break his vending machine) Great place.
The cute little dog that runs this place is the best, she was so welcoming.
a hidden gem for the pinball enthusiast. love coming here, its very relaxed. classic games to choose from definitely deserves a look!
Great atmosphere and so many varieties of game, good spot to hang and get your pinball on
Love this place. Lots of pinball machines, well maintained, and they have tournament events from time to time. BILL PAXTON PINBALL IS HERE!
Excellent tables, low price and so many pinball games!! Enjoyed the staff, good sense of humor.
Very friendly and pleasant place for games. We went for billiards, though they seem a little pinball focused.
Take the kids to experience real pinball and billiards, good local down home feel. Arcade games! 1 hour of fun 20 bucks.
Nice place! Pool and a wide selection of pinball machines. Plus a very cute dog!
Pinball and billiards... what more could you ask for! Machines are all very well maintained and in full working order, fun place to hang out and play!
Lloyd the Great. Amazing owner with a great collection of pinballs. His setup of machines and stories are A++
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds. Though less common than video games, pinball’s tactile charm and community vibe make it a standout arcade experience in 2025.
Yes, pool tables in arcades remain a fantastic draw in 2025! Games like 8-ball or 9-ball offer tactile, skill-based fun that blends strategy and precision. Modern tables feature smooth felt, responsive cues, and vibrant designs, enhancing the classic experience. Arcades foster a social vibe with casual matches or competitive tournaments, appealing to all skill levels. Unlike digital games, pool’s physicality—lining up shots, feeling the cue’s weight—keeps it timeless.
