Spare Time Windsor Locks

Spare Time Windsor Locks

Reviews Summary

Spare Time offers a mixed experience with strong praise for its remodeled facilities, diverse entertainment options (bowling, arcade, laser tag), and standout staff like Emma, Kate, and Sam. Many enjoy the food, drinks, and family-friendly atmosphere, especially on weekdays or for parties. However, complaints highlight poor lane maintenance, long waits (especially for Groupon users), inconsistent service, and abrupt lane closures. While some find it overpriced or poorly managed, others appreciate the vibrant vibe and attentive service, making it a polarizing but generally fun destination.

The best way to spend a rainy summer day! Especially on Tuesday, when arcade games and laser tag are half price. My 9yo loved it and I loved that I got to sit down for a few hours with my book and a drink! Emma at the bar was attentive and gave great service. One of our favorite spots for indoor fun!

Had some ups in downs in our experience at Spare Time, but Sam and Kate were so amazing that they made the day worth it. When my food was rung in twice they worked hard to reimburse and when my arcade card was stolen they did everything in their power to remedy the situation. Kate also makes a mean drink and Sam was super inviting. Inconveniences like this happen in life but people like Sam and Kate and their kind intentions make everything worth it. Still, so much fun. Good food, good games, good times. De

An amazing location to have fun with family, friends, or even on a date. I recommend this place to anyone that wants to enjoy arcade, bowling, laser tag vibes. You can eat, have a drink and enjoy yourself. I love this place. My kids love it too and so does my husband.

The restaurant was filthy! Food, dirty napkins and sticky residue all over the place! The front desk staff had no clue what was going on; all too busy congregating and laughing amongst themselves. I had a few questions about some of the activities and the front desk had literally no clue about anything. No leadership or organization here whatsoever! The escape room attendant was not only absent from the sign up area, but awfully rude when we entered; yelled at my party for pressing the help button twice. We

Decent place to take your family, friends, and kids to have a bit of fun. The food is better than expected for a bowling alley, and the bar is well stocked and a good place to watch sports. Staff is generally nice, but the managers could take a few lessons in hospitality. Prices are high for bowling, but it is the only bowling alley around. In general, its a great place to schedule events, parties, and hangout sessions.

2024 August 15 We visited this location for a cocktail and bite to eat. The bartender Jon assisted with our orders. Mandarin Chicken Salad, French Dip (Roast Beef Sandwich) & Potstickers. The potstickers were delicious, the Chicken in the salad was too dry for my liking. I have would try the location again.

Spare Time is a great spot for bowling with a fun atmosphere, well-maintained lanes, and friendly staff. It's a solid choice for a night out with friends or family. The only downside is the bar?drinks are on the expensive side, and sometimes the bartenders don't pour the correct amount. Still, if you're mainly there for the bowling, it's a good experience overall.

Definitely need to work on organization as it will be crowded and busy for the summer. Promised a time slot for laser tag for it to only be pushed back several times due to overbooking and staff lack of attention. When asked for a refund I was going to be provided a gift card, being FORCED to still spend money with them. I haven't gone bowling in a while but this is what prevents me from coming back.

We went when it wasn't crowded. Our party had a great time. I wish they had spaced us out more since it wasn't crowded because the people we shared a space with were inconsiderate and they left trash behind.

Was in town traveling and training for work. Met some friends here and had a great time. For the adults there's a great bar with good food options and drink specials. For the kids or family entertainment there's dozens of arcade games, to laser tag, bowling, axe throwing etc. Definitely a good time know matter who your there with and plenty to do. Cheers!

Spare Time Windsor Locks is an excellent place to host a kids birthday party! All we did was bring the cake and Haylie our host did everything. The package went as advertised plus there was a visit from the Bowling Pin Mascot! Too cute. All of the staff was kind and accommodating. Thank you for a memorable day and making a mom?s job easy.

Kate and Sam both overheard that a teenager stole our game card with 1000+ points on it and immediately honored the card and gave us the points back on a new card, with an extra complimentary $15 for gameplay on it. It truly made our day, I dont have enough good words for them. Thank you guys!!

It's in a bowling and game hall. The bar and restaurant only had service after 4 pm. Bar was fine. Restaurant seemed to have good options for casual dining.

Horrible service. Our lane was broken for the duration of our allotted time. We requested a refund and they refused to provide one, stating that they would give us more time on a broken lane. We did not want to be there until all hours of the night. When you pay for an allotted time you think that will be the duration of your time, and if they screw up they should provide refund instead of arguing about it. Ruined our birthday celebration and we will never come back.

Nice spot for many fun activities. I came here for bowling, but I noticed there are other activities. Laser tags, escape rooms, arcades, a bar & dining areas, etc. In addition, there is music playing in the background. In addition, I had the sweet heat wings and purple rain purple for a drink. Both were good.

Emma is so amazing that I cannot wait until I come back to town. Seriously made the trip worth while so awesome.

Good place to get a quality cold beer, quesadilla and friendly barkeep. The place is clean and the menu looks good for other options. It was off season for bowlers so the bar was nice and quiet. They should add a happy hour component to it.

Seriously impressed with the remodel. Before, this place was on the verge of being seriously dated. The place stunk, food was bleh. Now. Daaaaamn. Really stepped it up a ton! They have an escape room, laser tag, arcade (decent size too), the lanes are beautiful. There is even a "private" area with several lanes and it's own bar and restrooms. The food is so much better, hell they even have REAL plates (no paper ones) and waiters and waitresses! Everything is modern and visually pleasing. The main bar is hug

I booked a birthday party for my daughter on 2/15/25 and it was NOT WORTH IT, I got the ?Lanes & Laser BASH? bundle, not only they didn't have a private party room but we had to rush through the games, online it says ?unlimited bowling? yet they told us we need to leave the bowling area by a certain time so they literally rushed us to eat our pizza sing happy birthday cut and eat cake clear everything up and move all of our stuff to the lounge room all before the hour was up, and adding the time setting up

I would give zero stars if the arcade wasn't decent. Don't purchase a Groupon if you plan on coming here. They put you on a separate list and let everyone else bowl first. Was told we had an hour wait before we could bowl because we are using a Groupon. After an hour and a half I asked how much longer we had to wait and they told me at least another half hour - because they have birthday parties already reserved. Two hour wait for bowling? Wild. It's now been two hours and still no sign of our turn coming u

Bowling was fun. Food was great. Emma was our bartender; She was great.

My husband and I brought our son to Spare Time in Windsor, CT by Bradley Airport to celebrate his 19th birthday. Sam was so kind to us. I cannot thank her enough. She deserves a raise! My son had a blast!

Emma was fantastic! We were a large group and her service and attention were seamless! Cheers Emma

For the price they could at least maintain the lanes. If you want to bowl for real don't come here. Nothin special here

Such a great place to have a birthday party. Bowling, arcade, laser tag and a bar for Mom and Dad. We had a great time.

Had a wonderful time and the food was excellent. Emma did a nice job on our table of eight.

Wouldn't even give it a one star. Food distrusting. Horrible customer service. Had to wait for a table to be cleaned because they were all dirty. The waiters were confused and weren't helpful. Would never come again. 0:10 will never recommend.

We had just gotten off a delayed flight and we were starving and really wanted some food. After checking with a hostess we sat at an open table, and were almost immediately ready to order. However the waiter working seemed to choose to ignore us. He came out to help nearby tables and even after trying to get his attention he would not come over to us. After another 15 mins we asked the hostess if she could send someone, we watched her go talk to him and he came out but to help the other table. Another 15 mi

The place was very clean inside and even the parking lot. Clean bathrooms and good atmosphere had a few drinks and played a few rounds with friends and was money well spent

Always a great time. Newly renovated and so much more to offer. Big arcade, beautiful new lanes, laser tag and escape rooms. Come join the fun!!

awesome arcade & bowling. variety of games. cool place for the area.

Pizza is pretty much the worst I've ever had. I would recommend little Caesars over this cardboard.

Great food. Great bowling. Great parties. Great arcade and great staff especially the bartender Kate

Went to Spare time for a staff bowling event for my school! It was an awesome place with great service. Pretty expensive and my party got the elite suite but definitely worth it. They also have an arcade and an escape room!

We had a GREAT time celebrating a special 2 year olds birthday! Food was enjoyable with a wide variety of choices to cover everyone's tastes. Our group kept the kitchen staff and food runners busy. We set up tables behind our lanes with balloons, presents and her CAKE. Our waitress was FANTASTIC!! She made sure we had drinks, cake cutting/eating utensils, and of course, our food. The staff behind the check-in counter were a little less than friendly and the ONLY reason for the lower star rating.

I recently visited Spare Time Entertainment in Windsor Locks, and it was an absolute blast! The facility is clean, modern, and offers a wide range of activities that cater to both kids and adults. We enjoyed bowling on their luxury lanes, which were well-maintained and had a great atmosphere. The arcade had a vast selection of games, and the laser tag arena was thrilling and well-designed. The staff was friendly and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed for a fun experience. We also tried their r

Over all it was nice besides the game froze towards the end and they didn't do anything but the gentleman that took our order he was very nice and he gave us 3 cards for the arcade for the delay.

Good food in the Bar area escape room was kinda lame but the bowling lanes were decent

Some of my experience here was good? I liked the glow-bowl aspect and the food and service was pretty good. Frankly, I found all the televisions very jarring. The content/ cartoons that flashed back and forth so many times in different ways was sort of dark and an overly stimulating/borderline diabolical experience for me. I think the TV screen/content aspect just needs an element of more grace.

We stopped in on a Monday evening. It was crowded with bowling leagues. We did not eat here but the food we saw looked great. My son and I enjoyed the arcade. We had a great time. It was a little pricey, but with no other options, it was great. He had a blast! Glad we found this!

We had a great time bowling, playing laser tag, and playing in the arcade with the group we were with. The service that really shined for us was at the bar. Davi, Kelly, and the supervisor Kate were friendly, quick, and effective at managing everyone's needs. Their level of customer service really stood out for us this visit

First time there and the manager was amazing. She was in the process of turning the bar area into the Minisota Vikings football fan Zone. So any Vikings fans in CT now you have a place to watch your team play and enjoy a great service with it.

Spare Time is a fun place to visit and the facilities are clean and well kept. We went for a birthday part and were impressed with the variety of activities from bowling to laser tag to the arcade. It isn't overly noisy and o early stimulating either for most kids (parent's of sensory sensitive kids should check it out ahead of time for their child's particular needs). Kids have a great time. The food is pretty good too. Added bonus is it is clean and well kept.

Bowling experience was great but whoever is running laser tag is definitely out back hitting their pen instead of doing their job for 90% of their shift lmfaoooo

Spare time is a fun and friendly environment. The mixed drinks at my bar are a must try.

Emma is amazing!!!! Attentive, professional, and great service

The bartender Brandon was great! He was attentive, conversation was interesting and funny. The chicken wings were perfect with great flavor and crispness. The games were great and the game person gave us back some money for a game not working properly without even asking for anything. This place always gives good vibes and has something for everyone.

Emma rules! She was extremely professional and kind!

The waitresses was quick and care for their customers

Fun family place for bowling. Good customer service. Ok restaurant food.

I would give it 5 stars but the lady at the counter had an attitude for no reason,if you hate your job then don't work there. I remember what she looked like too frumpy looking girl with baby blue nail polish. Just wanted to have a good time with my niece but apparently saying hey how are you doing was a problem for that lady, bowling alleys with arcades are supposed to be fun. I'm pretty sure that lady was a manager of some kind she looked like a hobbit, short large and she probably had hairy feet. The serve

Superbowl Sunday was awesome.. all of the staff was on point.. available and part of the fun..ty from lane 14..

It's a fun bowling alley with a really cool game room

Packed on the weekends with long waits but lots to do with the kids while you wait.

Hranddaughters 5th bday.we loved it.i use to go there 20 plus years ago.wow .i love the metamorphosis..thk you

We attended a New Year?s Eve event at Spare time. I was able to easily make the reservation online and the process was clear and easy. We booked as part of a party package that was being offered for new years. We found the whole event to be well organized and well staffed. We received our food, drinks and service right away. Although we had two servers (we felt all the service could have been provided by one server making more money) everyone was attentive and checked in on us. The alleys were clean and wel

Fun place but be prepared to wait a long time if you want to bowl

Only recommend going when they have a late night special for the best deal but over all they are not the most expensive bowling. You do get a lane service and can order food lane side but all 3 times I've there is only 1 server for all lanes and seem overwhelmed. Last time we only wanted a quick outing and only did 2 games and we didnt get greated until the start of out second game and got our drinks on our last frame of the last game(we were not speed bowling either lol). I'd recommend going right to bar f

Since Bradley Bowl left and Spare Time took over this is our go to place for bowling, entertainment & fun. I had a birthday party last year: escape room & bowling after, we had an amazing, fun time. The food tastes really good & served hot. This place is very modern with beautiful decor, love it! We will be coming back for future visits!

BEWARE!! Wish I would?ve read the reviews before booking my son?s 6th birthday party here because my neighbor had her daughter?s party here a few years back and had a good experience. The host assigned to us was so unhelpful. He didn't assist much with set up and he stood and watched while I cleaned up after the party. When it was all over I couldn't wait to leave. While on my way out I asked him if he could dispose of my remaining cupcakes and balloons and he proceeded to repeat ?you need to pay up front

It was so much fun. The chicken wings were delicious.

Bowled 2 games. Waited 15min in line for a group of 4 to check in. There was two people behind the counter talking before someone realized we were standing there. The two games took an hour and a half. I ordered ONLY ONE DRINK the entire time which, the server only came the once and then to close out when my game was done (go figure) . I didn't see the server in sight for 15min. I want to include it was not very busy at this time, there was around 7-8 lanes going only on the left side and when my game finis

Great place, great prices, great staff. Especially great is manager Sabrina!

Top notch security. Bowling was fun, laser tag and arcade is an added bonus.

Awesome time bowling with all our employees!! Then laser tag, my first time ever, had a blast!!

Came in on a Saturday to bowl with the kids. Was told there was a 45min wait. Okay no problem. There were 6ish or so lanes not in use, but maybe they had a party or something? Okay fine. We go over to do the escape room to pass our time. There's no one at the desk for us to pay. Okay fine. We walk back over to the main desk? okay they will send someone over. Finally someone comes over. It's $25.00 per person ?? okay skip that. About 30 min into our 45 minute wait, seeing that the same bowling lanes are stil

Very nice friendly and professional. We lost a hat there and the staff was able to locate it for us. The Wait time for the lanes were reasonably. Within the hour; as they mention but it was like 20 minutes guess a lane opened up sooner. They have good selection of arcade games, and also laser tag and escape room. They place was very cleaned everything we played worked. Nice time with friends and family. Would recommend.

This is not a bowling alley, they took that away from what used to be one of the best bowling in CT. Took out about 20 lanes to put a bar that's dead and still has you waiting 5 minutes for a drink. The lanes are in awful condition, never maintained. I bowled a league here and they stack leagues back to back, they don't even give you enough time to put your shoes on to start practice. Not to mention if you go at 2PM they have disco lights like it's Friday night. I will never step foot into this place again.

We had a great time on a recent trip. Good staff. Good game selection with all of the in good condition. Escape room was middle of the pack, but it's not the only thing they have so it's to be expected. The laser tag was great. The course again is middle of the road, but the equipment (guns and vests) were great. Our family of 7 had a great time. Nice lounge area and though we didn't bowl, it looked like the lanes were really nice.

I was shocked that it was so close to the airport! I never knew that attending a child's birthday party would be so fun! Even though I didn't walk the whole perimeter, I saw the arcade and the bar. That was enough for my liking! I would come back with children and definitely adults!

Definitely a destination. Video games and nice drinks.

Had a great time bowling. The lanes are great & the system is very user-friendly. Shout out to Diane for the amazing hospitality

Very clean and organized place to go bowling or visit the arcade area. Modern games for adults and minors. Bowling was a lot of fun and the system is very modern.

I love bowling, especially at spare time. But things have definitely changed recently. Last time I went in with one friend of mine, a round of bowling would have come out to over $60! We promptly left because that is absurd. Also, the lanes are either oiled really well, or they are in absolute terrible condition. If you can go during one of the deals and the lanes are oiled it's a 5 star time. But if you go during a league, not during one of the deals, or when they are not oiled well; this is a 1 star revie

We attended a party here for my son. The facilities were very well kept and clean. Everything was set up well and appeared to have a space for private events. Bowling Lanes could be reserved in advance and there seem to be a wide variety of food options. We are definitely interested in hosting a party here in the future for our kids. The combination of bowling laser tag and arcade games is very appealing for the price offered.

This was our very first time going to Spare Time. Our 5 yr old granddaughter wanted to go bowling. Not impressed. Maindesk attendant seemed more interested in her computer, no t forthcoming on how the place worked. Unfortnately we went on a Saturday where its $43 an hour to bowl. Pizza was overpriced, and we defi itely got duped out of cash in the arcade. Nothing explains how to collect your tickets?? Very successful place at taking your money and leaving you feeling like you should have had more fun and l

Came here with co-workers for our end of the year celebration. I was pleasantly surprised at how large the private event room was. They also served restaurant quality lunches. The food and the presentation were very good. I'm just not crazy about bowling. So I enjoyed a few arcade games. It was also larger than I expected. I felt like I was at Chucky Cheese or Dave/Busters. I recommend this location to spend your "spare time".

Would have been 5 stars but they cut the lanes off at 10:50 regardless of your progress, we could have finished our game in that 10 minutes. Not okay. Your open til 11 your lanes should remain open until 11

Had a great time. Our server Jackie was great, kept checking in us and got us everything we needed quickly. Food was good and bowling was a great deal.

Great place to bring your children on a Tuesday to play their hearts out. The food was unremarkable. We ordered the nachos for an appetizer, a large cheese pizza that most of the cheese slid off the pizza back onto the serving board, a chicken Caesar salad and a steak and cheese flatbread pizza. The salad wasn't so bad but the steak was definitely the same thin sliced steakums meat and the flatbread was flat on taste. Next time we go we will skip getting any food. Good atmosphere overall.

My first time playing and my first time in Connecticut and I had a wonderful

I had a great time with great company... I sat in the bar area for a while and had some wonderfully made drinks ??... I didn't bowl this time but definitely enjoyed myself ... the vibe was pretty dope and music ?? chill... I've been to this location a few times and also attended a few events and each time enjoy myself

Can't ask for more from a bowling alley. Been there once for bowling and had a great time, and the food was so good I started getting takeout from there during the pandemic. They've got a real nice hustle and bustle of customers again now that things have opened back up and it makes for a very pleasant atmosphere. Very modern as well. Well worth the trip if you are in an area semi-far that doesn't have many similar facilities, or great way to pass the time before a flight or something.

Had a blast!! Great energy, great service, and very surprising.. Great food!! Highly recommend for a fun filled trip with friends or family!! We'll be back for sure!

What a fun place. Have driven by many times but had never been. My son and I took a ride down and had a blast. Arcade and bowling. Gianna was awesome to work with. She checked in with us often and was there when we needed her. Very clean and great atmosphere. Will be back again!

I was thrilled to be able to bring my family from out of town, and we had an amazing time! The alley looked fantastic, and I'm really looking forward to returning for some enjoyable bowling.

The food was really good! The wings were soo good. Staff was friendly and accommodating. We had my nephews birthday party there, and they were so patient with the children. I would definitely recommend.

Not a bad spot to waste some money. Medium sized arcade and nice bar setup. Can get crazy but it you find it on a quote day it can be awesome spot to relax

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
