I loved it here! Service was great, the lanes are in excellent shape and the prices were very reasonable. The thing I appreciated the most was how the balls were divided. It was super organized by weight and then within each weight there were different sized finger holes. Normally it's super annoying to find the right combination of finger size and weight. I have very small fingers and roll a 12lb ball. Typically, all that is available to fit my hand is 9 or 10lbs which super annoying. So thank you VERY mu
Five stars for Brian. He obviously came into a bar that wasn't refilled/updated. I saw multiple empty bottles behind the bar and literally only had 2 choices of bourbon. There were no slices fruit for drinks, so whatever bartender before him that didn't redo your station, you suck. Drinks were great for what he had to work with.
We went in today, and it was extremely busy. We knew there would be a wait, so we planned ahead to have lunch there before bowling. We got on the wait list and were told it would be about an hour, and they would call or text. They gave us each a $5 card for the arcade and sent us on our way. We had lunch (food and service were wonderful), then spent about 45 minutes in the arcade. At this point, it had been almost two hours, and we hadn't gotten called. I went to the desk to ask for an ETA only to find our
Great place to take the kids. My nephews needed something to do on a rain day so we went a checked it out. We did just about everything offered. We bowled for a little while and had a couple snacks, mac and cheese bite are awesome, and we played in the arcade for a bit. Was a great time.
Always a fun time at Spare Time! The only local.place for laser tag. We had a lot of fun! Games are reasonably priced. It's nice as an adult to be able to have a beverage while your child plays games. The prize room has a good range of prizes for a decent amount of tickets.
Friendly staff, clean environment, delicious food. 10/10 would recommend Only complaint would be, that we requested 2 games but only got one. They only charged us for one though so it must have been just a little misunderstanding. Loved this place. My family is visiting from MD and this place along with Becky's Diner and jordans furniture are the only two id recommend out of all the places/things we did
This place is amazing. A far departure from Al Bundy?s bowling alley, this place does not disappoint. Trendy enough to keep you entertained while still maintaining the feel of an authentic bowling alley. The pros - the alley is clean and well maintained. The drinks are strong. Waitstaff ?? professional and courteous. Thursdays at 9 its $12.00 per person. The cons - none ? although they were playing music from the early 2000s but I mean I love me some Lil Jon and Nelly so I'm not going to complain.
Great place to meet new people. Have a bunch of fun leagues to join, and they offer discounts to league bowlers. Staff is always attentive and well maintained lanes
Fun bowling alley with big screens as a back wall. I particularly appreciate the all you can bowl deal Sunday through Wednesday after 9pm. Lane conditions were surprisingly good.
Great night out with friends. Service was good and the food was not your average bowling alley food. Would recommend for adults and kids.
Nice relaxing atmosphere. Relatively clean, comfortable seating, no wait for a lane. Thursday nights are a good deal, $10 for all you can bowl and all you can eat decent pizza from 9-11PM.
Great place to take your children or friends. Lots of games and activities to do here. They offer food and a bar here as well. Check them out you won't be disappointed.
Great staff and good.clean fun...a chance to meet new people and roll the night away...I recommend ?? everyone coming out and giving it a try.
Went to a children's Birthday party just last night. 4/5/25. The staff were awesome, pizza was delicious. Definitely will be bragging about this place.
Great time! Very friendly and attentive staff! The computer system that they use for the bowling lanes is the coolest I've ever seen. You can take pictures of yourself to show when it's your turn to bowl. It shows all of the stats of the game and also gives you an idea on how to get a spare on your next roll. Not to mention there is laser tag, an arcade area and a very nice bar. It is truly an amazing place. We absolutely loved it. For sure will be going back very soon! Thank you for reading my review! I ho
We went for my besties Birthday it was so much fun! The staff was great. Friendly and very welcoming. The food was amazing Drinks were so good ?? I definitely recommend going here the atmosphere is great.
We had such a great night celebrating a 50th birthday! It was fun for all ages. Ashley was so helpful in the planning and our server Kellie was incredible!
Taking family there was great fun, allowing them a few hours of fun. But what was a pain. Is how they have you resigned back up every 6 months .and they ask way to much information about personal info.
Such a great place to go, although the boss kept getting stuck out back of the pins and the gentleman had to keep going back three or four times. Otherwise it's a very nice, the employees are very nice that I've come across there.
Awesome place to get together and Roll, have some pie and have some good clean FUN...I highly recommend going if you are feeling like you want to bowl, you'll have fun get better and enjoy the experience the rest of your Life
Two stars because the food itself was good. Bowling itself was ok, but the machines keeping track of scores are kinda old. Service was ok I guess, but apparently they don't say anything when a group of old people make loud racial comments about Asians. Drinks were weak or tasted funny and lanes weren't oiled enough. Lots of shoes are also worn out and have no traction.
This place is one of the last few gem left in Maine. The big ball bowling alley has it all- bowling, a arcade, lazer tag, a full bar & restaurant with a huge menu. On Sunday's before noon it's super cheap and only 2 dollars a person pre-game. They have these really cool dinosaurs looking things to help kids bowl with the big balls- they drop the ball on its head & it slides down the dinosaur back & down the lane. They also offer bummers for the children. The staff is incredibly friendly, very helpful, and t
The lanes are well-maintained, and the atmosphere is lively yet comfortable ? perfect for both casual bowlers and more serious players. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring everything is going well. The food and drink options are great, with a variety of tasty snacks and refreshing beverages:) The arcade area is also a nice bonus, providing even more entertainment for those waiting for their turn or just looking to mix things up. Whether you're planning a fun night out with friends, a
Perfect place to bring kids when the weather isn't, rain, snow, or hot and humid. For the last two years, I've brought bus loads of kids (K-8) and it is a consistent hit.
Laser tag was good, I think the games could be $.50, $1.00 is too pricey since there's not much to do there, made me want to take the kids somewhere else
I had my granddaughters 5th birthday party here and everyone had a wonderful time!
I had initially had an unpleasant experience and I emailed Spare Time explaining how an event made me feel taken advantage of. Tim reached out to me and explained how staff were debriefed and trained. It brings me a lot of comfort knowing that Tim CARES about people having fun and that he reached out to me apologized. Other than the unpleasant experience, space is clean and fun !!! <3
Food.was great, lazertag was a blast, and amazing smiling staff
Great place to bowl, but make sure you always look at your bill and make sure it's correct. I was out with work friends and didn't pay close enough attention to the bill. I was over charged and have been trying to get a refund on the drink I was over charged. It's almost been a whole month and every time I call I get told ?the general manager is busy? or ?you'll get a call back once the GM is back in the business?. Being in retail management, I sympathize being busy, however not getting back to a customer(f
Really nice!!! I wish they offered blocks of time instead of paying by the game but other then it was great
I spent 700 dollars at this place for 2 hours , I was told over the phone I would get 4 large cheese pizza and 4 pitchers of beverage with 4 bowling lanes for 16-20 guest, mind you it's 25 dollars a guest.. when I got there , everything was so unorganized, they ended up only giving us 3 cheese pizza and 2 pitcher of soda , i had to order extra pizzas and beverages , i order sprite for the soda that taste like club soda , and only got 3 bowling lanes instead of 4 like I was originally told, we had to share
Took my son here for his bday and we had a blast
Great time with friends. Stress free environment...great Playlist. Good deal on beer and bowling till close at 1 am.
Laser tag with my son was great he had a blast definetly going back
I would give this place more stars if I could! The front desk not so pleasant but we had a birthday party in the restaurant and they were amazing! The food was amazing! The prices were amazing! We played Lazer tag and that guy was amazing! He Played laser tag with us. Will definitely go back for more fun! Thank you spare time!
Had so much fun! Friday night special $18 pp from 10pm to 1am. The music was turned up and the fun lights were flashing
Pretty large bowling alley with a great arcade and laser tag! The food is pretty good. Also. The only downside in my opinion is that there are huge screens above each lane projecting music videos and lots of media. It's very distracting when you're bowling.
We recently brought our two teenage daughters for a family night of great food, bowling, arcade time and a game of laser tag. It was one of the best family nights we've had in a long time. The food was great. Be sure to leave room for desert?. We had the most amazing ice cream Sunday! In a time when many businesses are finding it difficult to find good employees, Spare Time was fully staffed and each employee was kind and helpful. We will absolutely go back again.
This place was awesome! You wouldn't think it from the outside but if you are bowling, it is great - can't speak about the the ?video games? which looked to be games to get tickets to exchange for little things that collect dust at home. Half price on Wednesdays too, I believe.
Upbeat great food drinks good for family kids ,parties, corporate paries cocktails pop
My daughter had her birthday party there, and it was a blast!! Fun had by all with bowling, laser tag, arcade games. Great times!! All round great places and staff!!
My son loves this place. We went tonight for lasertag and had a minor mishap & Merridith (I hope I'm spelling that correctly) went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. She's super sweet and kind. She just gives off positive, happy energy. Overall it was a great night, thanks to her!
What a fun place. Pretty good food, great bowling, and lots of other options for fun.
theives and scammers!!! pretty low class trashy place to scam a child ! (my child went with friends and teachers as a school celebration trip) and won prizes but the man at the counter said sorry we are out of prizes i can give you a single gummy candy to make up for not having the go pro and blue tooth speaker you won. ummm NO not even close and my son declined as he doesn't eat candy they did NOT refund his money or even offer to this is absalutely obsurd and it's called theft of service!!!
I came here to play a few rounds of bowling. The place was packed so I hung around at the bar for a little bit until a lane opened up. Food was great service was good as well. I can't wait to come back again soon.
Great place for the family with bowling and a good sized arcade. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful! The food was good, and we loved having it delivered right to our bowling lane.
On April 13, 2024 we finally went back to spare time in Portland after being gone for a year. It was always a good time, but it only took one time to ruin it. We went back and saw Tim who has always been the best manager that Place has ever had. He has new staff, the place is back to normal, the normal we knew the awesomeness we knew the Customer Service we knew which was why we chose to have our wedding there almost 4 years ago and now we will go back to being our regular customers there and I will be brin
Went for Laser tag. Wednesday was 50% off night which was awesome. I do wish the area was a little bigger, but it is fun. We'll be back for sure. Place was busy with the bowling league, but the arcade area was pretty dead. Only a few people there. It is Wednesday night after all, and for some reason in Maine people are all asleep by 7pm or something which is crazy to us. Didn't try any foodstuffs or anything, just lasertag. I'd recommend this place. Bowling looked fun, but not on league night.
We had so much fun here! The place felt really clean and the energy was great. The bartender was super kind, and the drinks were really tasty. Only gave 4 stars because one of the waitresses we had was pretty distracted. We waited 40 minutes for a Sundae and eventually gave up. She didn't seem to have put in the order in the end, and didn't charge us for it but we were waiting around for a while for nothing it seems.
We go here all the time but yesterday we had such a great experience because of the employees that I had to leave a review. There was a camp of kids there today and although it wasn't insanely busy, it did get busy for Brianna in the prize room. Lots of excited kids were rushing through and not saying thank you and she just diligently worked through ringing out their prizes, making sure she was accurate but still quick. She was friendly to the group even though the group was in such a rush. By the time it w
This place is awesome. I took my 8 year old and his 9 year old friend to spend a rainy afternoon in the arcade at Spare Time today, and we all had a blast. There was a great selection of games to play, many of which award points that can be redeemed for prizes later on. The prizes themselves were awesome and there were plenty of decent options for lower ticket/point cost, so that pretty much any amount of points will find *something* to redeem them for. The employees working the main desk and the arcade ar
We went on a very busy day. While we were bowling we wanted to order food but they were short staffed. My husband went to ask the event planner, Ashley Joyner, to send a waitress to our lane. She instead took our order and then proceeded to take other people's orders. She is an amazing example of team work and we really appreciate her going out of her way to serve us,especially since it wasn't her job. Also, if we ever have an issue the manager, Tim ensures we are taken care of.
Had the best time!!!!! Celebrated my daughter's 14th birthday with a laser tag party!!! Her and her friends had a blast!!!!
Staff was very friendly and customer centric. The laser tag facility was very modern with the latest technology. The arcade was small but still had a good variety of modern games. We didn't bowl but plenty of lanes with no waiting had we chose to. Used Groupon for an incredible deal!
Excellent place for fun with kids and adults! This was the 1st time taking my 2 kids. It was my 7 year olds birthday and we took 2 of their friends with us.. Even though we didn't book for a birthday this very kind employee made sure to make it special anyway. He asked the birthday girl if she wanted to request any songs, brought us a pitcher of ice water, and gave each of the girls a card with $5 on them towards the arcade. Would highly recommend this place. They truly made our visit memorable.
I attended my daughter's birthday party at spare time in Portland. She loves to go there and play laser tag and play the video games. She enjoys bowling and they have nice aids to help young children Bowl with the large balls. There was a point in the party when the bowling alley turned on the disco lights and the kids all started dancing. It was hilarious. I don't remember a birthday party with quite so much dancing. After the birthday party I asked my daughter if she had a good time she said it was great.
My first time going to a Spare Time and what a great experience! The atmosphere was fun, clean and they offered exceptional service all while keeping guests safe....Nora was our server and she was fantastic, she came by frequently to see if we needed anything. Matt and Michelle at the bar were great as well. The general manager Tim, was awesome and made sure all guests were having a good time. We met Aidan, the manager on duty who was pleasant and friendly....we also observed Joey, who was always busy do
It's like the world was never brought to it's knees. They definitely made a good night great. The food has definitely been stepped up a notch and the drinks, though expensive, were absolutely worth it. Service was impeccable. I'm so glad they were able to stay open and hope they continue to thrive!
We had an awesome experience at Spare Time when we took our daughter and her friends recently. They had a blast in the huge arcade and bowling was a hit. The food was great and the staff is top notch - very friendly, professional and welcoming. The kids said, "it was one of our favorite places ever, it is better than Disney"!
Spare Time is a fantastic place! The staff have always been courteous and helpful. Laser tag is terrific for all ages. Bowling is so much fun with kids- we all crack up over the graphics after every shot! And the ability to have the automated bumpers - and not having to pay extra for them- is an excellent option. The summer bowling program, Wednesday specials and opportunities for savings on play cards make it affordable family fun. Thank you Spare Time!
I just got home from their service industry night and I had such a great time! Thank you to everyone responsible for putting that together and for everyone who worked it. I'm sure it was a lot of work. We had the nachos which were great and the beer was reasonably priced. Bowling was fun and the lazer tag was awesome! I think I was giggling the whole time. Every staff member I interacted with was friendly and clearly dedicated to doing their best. I will definitely be back!! Thank you again.
After purchasing, we went to bowl. Someone came over after a few minutes to see if we wanted to order food. Then after 30 minutes someone came over to see if we needed anything. I remember when this type of customer service was commonplace. Now it's hard going anywhere to witness friendly service like this. WELL DONE SPARE TIME...MY KIDS (AND I) LOVE IT!
Not a bad place to visit if you've got some spare time. ;) Looked like they had a very nice bowling alley and a nice place to eat too, but we went to spend a couple hours in an arcade. Not a terrible selection of games and a fair mix of ticket and experience games. They actually had a fair amount of newer games too. There were about 20-30 games in total. The ticket counter was geared towards the young ones, lots of candy and little toys and trinkets. Not much in the way of plushies, which is my go-to p
We love going to Spare Time, especially, with the Kids Bowl Free summer program. I'd give 5 stars but we wanted to be able to order lunch for the kids and that wasn't available for another 2 weeks and also the music videos played behind the lanes aren't always kid appropriate but luckily most of the time the kids aren't paying attention to that. Overall great place!!
I went on a Saturday. That's the worst day to go if you expect to bowl right away. That's my fault, of course it's crazy busy. The guys at the bowling desk were professional and had the lane scheduling process streamlined. The kids went to play in the arcade while we waited for a lane. The whole building was clean. That's hard to do with sooo many people running around. This would be a fabulous place for a birthday party or go on a date.
Arcade was fun laser tag was amazing bowling was great and food was really good. Definitely going back for more! Our new hang out.
My grandson chose a laser tag birthday party and the staff went above and beyond to make it a great time! Package included pizza, soda, arcade cards a nd coupons for each of the participants to return.
We were blown away by how amazing this facitily was at hosting a birthday party for our 8 year old son! Communication leading up to his party was amazing and then when we arrived our party area was all set up and ready to go. Lauren, our hostess was PHENOMENAL! She went over every tiny detail with us and stuck to the schedule 100%. The attention to detail by all staff was incredible. The venue is spotlessly clean and top of the line. The arcade was amazing and we will definitely be back to give laser tag a
We have been going here for the last couple of months with friends for winter indoor activity. 5 out of the last 5 visits the food never comes out of the kitchen consistent and there is always a member of our party that doesn't receive food, we have to chase down a member of the wait staff to ask where it is or go to the bar to follow up. most of the time whoever doesn't get the food either eats someone else's leftovers or just opts to cancel the order as they would receive it 30 min after everyone else is
We visited Spare Time for a last minute birthday party for my 12 year-old and 6 of his friends. Meredith helped me plan a fun afternoon of bowling, arcade games and laser tag. Meredith accommodated our crew and fired up the kitchen to serve everyone lunch. We also met Tim, the manager, while sizing up for shoes. He was very polite, helpful and patient with the kids. Awesome afternoon!!! I
The food was decent, fries were the best part but the flat bread pizza we ordered was a little burnt. When we went to play laser tag we had an hour wait which was fine we had a large party. However, when our time came another party was allowed to go ahead of us and we had an additional 10 minute wait while they had that party step out, on top of the original hour to play. Overall everyone had fun, but definitely need better communication and could attempt to call people when their time comes to play.
Afternoon bowl. Attentive staff had a great time.
We love coming here for an afternoon of fun. They have lots to offer for the whole family. Bowling, laser tag, arcade, bar, and parties. Their food and drinks are great. The bowling alley has flashy lights and music. My kids love the laser tag games and arcade. We have been to several birthday parties there as well and they do a nice job. Friendly staff, and very clean establishment.
Waited 38 minutes for someone to come over to us in the restaurant (we were told it was seat-yourself by staff), before our lane buzzer was finally called and we ordered over there. It's awesome they have food and drinks, but definitely started the night extremely frustrated and almost flabbergasted that staff kept seeing us without coming over. It was a shame for sure.
They took such great care of our party of 8! They've made great adjustments to help families feel safe in a post-Covid environment. The entire experience from check-in, to bowling, to dining, exceeded all of our expectations. Matt was an amazing server! Yummy food and even yummier cocktails. Thanks to the whole Spare Time team for a wonderful time. We will be back!! You guys rocked our Friday night :)
Always a great time! It's semi pricey but totally worth it for the experience you get. Waitstaff comes right to your lane to take your order. And the arcade is top notch! Everyone in the family always has a blast every time we go here!
Was recently at the bar in Spare Time Bowling with my wife. We sat at the bar and had a few drinks and some wings. They ask for a credit card for your tab when you first order. No big deal. When we left we closed our tab and left a 25% cash tip. Service was decent and wings were good. A few days later I get a notice from my credit card company that they added an ADDITIONAL 40% TIP!! bringing it to 65% tip. Luckily my credit card company charged them back. WHAT A SCAM!! I even wrote cash tip on the tip line.
Slightly pricey place. Laser tag games are 8.00 per game per person, but games only last 10 minutes. But lots to do, it's bright and fun for kids and adults alike.
11/20/2020 Went there for my son's 18th birthday party. There were 9 of us we got a great deal going through groupon. Cost included 3 games of laser tag and a $25 game card to use in arcade for 3 people. The place was immaculately clean. Every person that was not waiting on customers was cleaning something. The laser tag was really fun.We got our own private room. We were able to bring a cake in. We got 2 large pizzas, 2 pitchers of soda and 2 appetizer platters and that was more than enough food. Highly
We went Saturday afternoon with 5 children and 4 adults and had an amazing day . We had a little birthday cake for 3 of the kids , something we did on our own while sitting in the dining area and the manager brought 3 bowling pins and $40 in arcade cards for the kids just to show his appreciation for us being there . Everyone was great working there and the food is very good and prices are good . We do plan on going next weekend too .
I just had my son's 10th birthday party there. I had called a week and half in advance and set the date and time all up. I had to pay a deposit which was fine. When me and my party arrived for the party they didn't have the time I was told and nothing was set up. They had to set my party up and get everything together while we waited. We also had gotten an additional lane for adults which staff WAS NOT clear on exactly how pricing went so we ended up paying way more then we had thought we were going to have
Second time I've been there with my family this years. I like the TVs, so you can still watch sporting events, while spending time with family.lol
We took 9 teenagers for a birthday party. They all had a blast. 3 games of laser tag, $5 gift cards for playing video games, plus pizza and soda. Full menu for the parents to order from. Excellent day!!
My family loves bowling and laser tag here! The staff are helpful and friendly. We came for the 50% off Wednesday deal. Lanes were clean as well as the whole building. My one complaint is that the toilets are really obnoxious and scared my youngest kid, but overall highly recommend for other families!!
Absolutely love spare time! My son has picked the Riverside location 3 out of the last 5yrs for his birthday party. The venue truly has something for all ages! Amazing pub fare as well....#SPARETIME!
We had a blast as usual. Seems to be clean but we did not find hand sanitizer throughout facility. Only at front door. None in play area yes there was some at counters. I think they should have some more readily available for the kids
Just left and ready to go back! I was having a really rough day for my birthday and could not think of anything fun to do. My wife dragged me out of the house and did what she always does and turns a bad day into a better one. I found this place online and decided to give it a try. It was awesome! Friendly staff, fantastic laser tag, awesome games, great food, could not have asked for more.
As a frequent visitor of Spare Time I am saddened to say that tonight will be our last night visiting; we were treated like belligerent children and I have never experienced such a place with low hospitality. We came here for date night. Started with a simple meal and one round of drinks, with the second round to have in hand while we bowled. We were out with another couple so we asked to split an $80 bill in half. One half was $39 and the other was $45. Do the math. It simply doesn't add up. While we were
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
