Spare Time Entertainment

Spare Time Entertainment

Reviews Summary

Spare Time offers a mixed experience with generally positive bowling and arcade facilities, though prices are often criticized as steep. Food quality varies significantly—some praise generous portions and taste, while others complain about poor execution, high prices, or inconsistencies (e.g., wedding catering vs. tasting). Service is hit-or-miss: some staff are friendly and attentive, but delays and disorganization are common. Cleanliness is occasionally lacking, especially in the arcade. Positive highlights include family-friendly features (ramps for kids, cosmic bowling) and strong bar offerings (Bloody Mary bar). Negative outliers involve billing issues, mismanagement, and disappointing menu changes. Overall, it’s a decent venue with notable flaws.

Customer Reviews

We love coming to Sparetime! My kids love bowling- my son has met a lot of new friends at all the different events they have had! The food is delicious too! :) Al and the team are so nice! We also had my son?s birthday party there and the staff was great to work with! Everything was very organized and set up when we got there. Sparetime is a great place to spend time with your family and friends.

The place is pretty nice, and I definitely would recommend. The food wasn't the best but it was okay. One thing that was disappointing, was that they will not tell you if it's the same price or cheaper to bowl for 1 hour. They are not very upfront on those prices. If you go just do the 1 hour. Very disappointed in that, as this was basically a waste of an additional $30 I didn't need to spend if they would have just told me, and been upfront. But overall it was a good-ish experience. Management please do be

Our family hosted a birthday party for my nephew at this location. We spent 480 dollars on the party for 17 kids. Despite how expensive it is, we continued this tradition the last 5 years. Every experience before was good, but yesterday was absolutely awful. The host in charge of directing the party wasn't attentive or very helpful. She had to keep being found all night for assistance. There wasn't any structure and minimal planning on her part. My sister and I had to take over and figure it out ourselves w

Food was okay. Totchos were great, burger we was okay. Went again last night. We had the totchos again, and they were even better than last time. We also had the avacado fries with the serrano sauce and they were excellent as well. Totchos are still amazing! Chef Gar is a masterclass in cooking!

Went to bowling alley for late lunch. Sister said burgers and fries were good. I had chicken strip and fries. They were good. Place was quiet so we could visit. Waitress was great.

Come here for bowling food arcade and laser tag it's all here it's all good great staff and the food is next level. Great for hosting parties there

The staff were very kind and helpful. The food was fantastic, especially the fried green beans. Service was great, they were very fast getting the food out. I had a group of 7 people, and everyone had a great time. Can't wait to go again.

Prices were outrageous. I paid 65$ for 2 cards and 3 people to play laser tag. I wanted to try it out since it was closer than the one in Rochester. I can get 4 cards as a package deal for $82, that included 40 credits( on each card), a game of bowling and 15mins of lazer tag.

Arrived ahead of a group of 10 and was told to wait to reserve lanes until our entire party arrived. Once the rest of them arrived 20ish minutes later we were told we couldn't bowl because they had to have lanes ready for the league coming in at 6:30, over an hour later. There was only a couple of lanes being used in the entire space during this whole time and it was still mostly empty when we left. Incredibly disappointing service.

Love this place great place for birthday parties a little expensive but totally worth it I would recommend though with little kids for example having 10 kids all at once you're better off just doing the arcade with getting the private birthday party room cuz the bowling gets a little boring for the children

We had an excellent time at the Taylor Swift Bowling party and I hope they do more fun things like that in the future. I've also gone just for bowling and pizza and the arcade which was a great time. The facility is clean, the food is great and the staff was friendly and helpful!

Get more high chairs! To think 2 high chairs for the entire facility would work is crazy. Hard pass on the appetizers too. Full order of cheese curds for 7.99 and you get 14 crispy curds- after thirty minutes of waiting. Thankfully they have a ton of space, bowling alley, and arcade to keep you busy. Burgers are a solid choice too. They do have a great staff - we ended up getting comped for the cheese curds. They are very helpful

Have a group of 12 people show up around 5:00pm and asked if we could have 2 lanes for bowling. They denied our services and said they could not help us cause they had a a league showing up at 6:30. So we took or business elsewhere.

We hired sparetime to cater our wedding day meal. We paid a lot of money per plate! We went to a taste testing. Bottom line is, if we had been served at the taste test what we were served at our wedding meal, we would not have chosen this meal. There were 3 major differences in the wedding day meal, versus our taste test. We chose the stuffed pork chop. 1. Our taste test meal had a cheese sauce. The day of the wedding, there was no cheese sauce in sight. When we asked the servers, they had no idea what we w

My husband and I took some of our grandchildren and one child here tonight and they all had a blast. The staff was very friendly and helpful especially Tim thanks for everything. You made it fun for all of us. We will definitely come again

Great place. Kids had fun in the arcade, lazer tag, and eating pizza. The pizza was delicious. Food reasonably priced. We went on the weekend and didn't bowl because they rented lanes by the hour and I don't like that. Otherwise, 5 stars.

I've never had a bad experience here. I enjoy the atmosphere for bowling. I have only had appetizers. The staff have always been nice when I have gone.

We took our 1.5 year old bowling for the first time. He loved it! They have guard rails and ramps for the little ones. The arcade was open and great fun too!

We went for supper on a Sunday evening. It was busy and noisy. The service was very good. The food was fine but nothing special. I had the chicken panini with fries. I like that a beer from a local brewery (Mineral Springs) was available on tap. From our seats we could look right into the men's restroom (to see the sink).

Very fun! Nice patio! Great food and bar!

Steak Philly sandwich was room temperature and the meat seemed about 1/3 short of a full serving size. Good bun and french fries were great! Wish I'd tried the nachos as those at our table said they were very good.

Me and the dudes wanted to have a guys night and chose to go here. When we got there we met a really rude lady who seemed annoyed at us for daring to ask for Lazer tag. She was sarcastic to us and when we went into the Lazer tag room she didn't turn the lights on and only half of the guns were even connected to the game. We walked to the door to leave but she locked it and we had to call front desk to come let us out. She let us out with a sarcastic sigh but let us play again. The bowling alley kept glitchi

Taylor Swift Bowling was a hit ??

We went for food and drink and not bowling. That being said, the service was good. I can't say it was bad at all. I got an app to share with my wife and it was absolutely delicious. It was very large too so we didn't order anything else. They have a good selection of beers on tap. I can't complain about really anything. It was a good trip and I'll definitely be back again. I was impressed.

I have now had three Togo orders here and each one has been fantastic. They now have an online ordering system that makes ordering a breeze. I would definitely recommend their burgers and to show up a little before the time they say it's going to be done. Prices are excellent for this type of restaurant.

It's always a fun time when you go bowling!!!

Food was delicious. All seven of us were very pleased. Waitress did great job. We could hear our conversations. This was also a big reason for selecting Spare Time. Acoustics must be better than some other restaurants. We will be back. ??

Brought a hockey team here. All the kids had fun and overall service was ok given it was very busy. Staff were definitely overworked which ended in a lot of waiting for a lane to be fixed multiple times. That wouldn't have been a big deal either, except they charge for lanes by the hour. That's where the real struggle came. Explain to me how to fairly divide cost between a large group when some kids sat and waited for their lane to be fixed while others played the whole time? It took 1.5hrs to finish one g

This was our first trip here. Service was really good, and lots of games to play. Bowling is a pretty good deal, and the tablets to manage your bowling lanes are a nice touch. Food was good, we ordered a kids burger and a Philly cheese steak. Food cane fast, and fries were crispy. Overall, we we're impressed with the food and service, and we will return.

Had not been there in a few years Was amazed at the updates they were doing. * some still in progress* only reason for not perfect score. But when done should be amazing! But mostly impress by the Chef they have there. The Turkey bacon Cheddar Pinni sandwiche wa awesome. I brought half home to my hubby and he loved it. The chef came to our table and asked how things were. This is the Best of 3 worlds, Great food, Entertainment for Kids and Adults! With Arcade, Bowling and great food!!! Reasonably priced. Ev

Great place for a planned family event. A good hometown atmosphere with lunch and dinner options. Birthday party lanes and seating can be arranged in advance. I highly recommend this location.

One of The best place to spend time with family??????,Food is delicious and good price, good music, good deals ??. highly recommend .

Bloody mary bar is great on Sunday.

Good bar food, well maintained lanes, and nice scoring system. Arcade/Lazer Tag prices are a bit steep for small town fare. The high school staff we interacted with were friendly, mostly on task and helpful. The remodel was a huge improvement, so kudos to them on investing in the facility. Probably could've been cleaner considering it wasn't particularly busy. Arcade area was a mess for the 2+ hours we were there, and there weren't very many kids or families there using it.

There didn't seem to be any servers or restaurant staff dedicated to the lanes, which made ordering food/drinks while bowling a bit disruptive, but the service received was fast and friendly and the food was good. I also noted the staff were quick to wipe down tables when lanes were vacated.

My family stopped at Spare Time on Saturday,April 17. The food was outstanding, the service was prompt and courteous. The Cuban Sandwich was wonderful. We will be back for sure if we are ever back in the area.

We had so much fun laser tag, video games, and bowling!!!! Awesome food and the staff was great. The Manager Michelle is extremely helpful!!!

CORRECTION 0 STARS!!!!!!!! 1We arrived at 6:15 on mothers day and we were surprised they weren't busy. There were 3 tables of people we ordered our drinks. Approximately 10 min later we received our drinks and ordered our food, our pops were flat. Shortly after that the owner showed up. After sitting there for another half hour or so we still had not received our food when our waitress informed us there was a mistake in the kitchen and that it shouldn't be to much longer. Right after that the owner and his

Nice and very clean bowling alley. The kids had a great time! The arcade is plenty big with a good variety of different games but is ridiculously priced.

Pearl is the absolute best! I have never had better service in my entire life. Ask for the salmon slammer!

Delicious food! Server was attentive. Food coming out of the kitchen a little slow. In all fairness, it's the first weekend opened since second covid shutdown. Definitely worth a second trip.

I had initially wrote a terrible yet accurate review. The customer service was horrible before on numerous occasions. However, I went here last night and the customer service was great! Our waitress was beyond accommodating and on it with everything. We didn't have to ask for anything because of how attentive she was. The bartender I talked to was helpful and friendly as well. I heard they had new management and I hope this is the new norm!

The bar-b-que pizza is really good and the service is friendly. I have taken my family there for bowling and arcade games and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was clean and orderly with staff that were quick to assist us and answer our questions. I highly recommend Spare Time Entertainment for a fun afternoon or evening out.

Food is amazing each time we go there. We had them cater our wedding sides and night snack, and could've have asked for anyone better. The atmosphere is homey and comfortable, staff is usually very attentive and timely!

Great place to go with the family so no much to do there

Called to ask if we needed to reserve a lane for nephews birthday. The teenage kid on the phone said no they have plenty of lanes. We showed up at 1:15 and they then said that we could only bowl until 2 as they didn't have any lanes. Meanwhile we order food in which took over half hour to get. 2:00 our lanes got shut down and as we ate our food they never proceeded to fill those lanes. If your going to run a establishment at lest get help that knows what their doing.

I called Thursday night to ask about pricing for Friday at 1pm. Was told $4.25 a game $3.50 for shoes OR $25 for an hour, shoes included. Sent special needs son with companion on Friday at 119pm and son was charged $35.95 to bowl 2 games and $3.50 for shoes. How is this even POSSIBLE!?!? Talk about taking advantage of a vulnerable adult!!

The manager here is a hoot. Great place. Good food too. They have good lanes for bowling. Over all positive atmosphere.

We hosted 122 hockey families and skaters at Spare time over the weekend. I can't express how AMAZING the Catering and Events Manager April was to work with prior to the event! The food was reasonably priced and outstanding, the bowling and laser tag was beyond affordable for the group, and the staff including the GM were spot on with service! I would give 100 stars if i could! Please stop by if in the area!

Went to Sparetime after hearing about it on KOWZ. We drove from St Peter. The service was great. Chris took good care of us at the bar. We will be back

We came here for my son's birthday in July and back again last weekend for my daughter's birthday. They love it. Clean family fun!

Met a friend for lunch. Waitress was awesome but the food was awful. Ordered an oriental-style chicken wrap that was so soaked with dressing I tried to eat it with a knife and fork but that didnt work any better than holding on to it. The tortilla was soaked! And upon cutting into it, it was way heavy on greens and had maybe a tablespoon of chicken in one half. I didnt even attempt to eat the other half. Note to chef: sandwiches and wraps would be 100%better with sauce or dressing served on the side. Let cu

Great bar food! Classic bowling alley feel. The service was pretty awful though. Waited with an empty glass and had to flag the server twice for another drink. Ordered extra sour cream which never came. Food came out at different times.

Been a few years since the last time I was in but still a great bowling spot. Tried out the Lazer tag, it was pretty fun. We had a group of 9. Service was great and the bar staff was awesome.

Our table of four has been here 2 separate times for lunch and it has taken 45 minutes from putting our order in to receiving our food. The food has always been great! They just don't do it fast enough for a lunch break.

We went bowling with our 1.5 year old for the first time. We had a blast! They have guard rails and ramps for the little ones, which was perfect. We also had fun playing games at the arcade. Great time and we will be back!

After having to switch lanes twice due to their technical problems, we went to the restaurant to have a late lunch. My husband and mother-in-law ordered the prime rib sandwich. It must have been prime rib from mars, because it sure looked like pot roast to us. And over $14! Are you kidding me?! The food was overly expensive and over rated. Don't bother eating here. We wont be back!

Stopped and picked up dinner while traveling. Chicken strip and I was not only amazed at the portion size but also the taste/texture. Great meal while on the go!

I give the food a 2.5, and Shannon Boerner a 1Star, Very Rude And Arrogant, Who do you think you are you work at a bowling alley, I could buy that place cash.

I brought my elderly mother to Sparetime with my family. She has a hard time getting up from chairs and the young man working there tonight helped me keep her upright when she lost her balance getting up out of her chair. I want to thank him for his help and empathy. Food is always good!

This place is awesome! For only $10.00 they give you a game pad card that's good for - 2 hours of play for the arcade games!! You don't earn points or tickets and any coin or instant prize games are not included. Bowling is very reasonable too! Friendly helpful staff made everything complete and worth going!!

This place is great! You can save money or spend a little more getting prizes from the arcade. The prizes are very cool, tickets are easy to get too! I go as often as I can. Great family place! Kids can run around, the staff is understanding and really tolerable! Great people! The bowling is also fun, lots of selections for sizes of the bowling balls! The drinking fountain is also up to par. Wish I got more plays and the exchanged cash for game current worked on all machines. Definitely recommended!!

Heard from two families in two days that they will never visit again because of no service. First family, yesterday, waited 30 minutes then just left. Today, couple came in, he tried to find someone but couldn't. Tried to inform bartender only to get a rude response. We will also not be back. Owners, you need new help

Enjoyed the outdoor seating.

Just ordered Chef Gar's Wednesday rib take-out special! So good. Enjoyed tender ribs; loved the seasoned fries, and the creamed cucumber salad was a nice surprise!

Their food turned to something horrible. They changed their food vendor and the chicken strips are tiny compared to the old. The fries changed as well beware. We bought this food dozens of times but won't be back for this over priced nonsense

Seriously, I got my pizza and was done eating before the rest of my table even got there food. Not the waitstaff fault. OMG the kitchen needs to get there s___ together. Who wants to sit and eat in front of 3 people and be done by the time they get their food!!! The food was good .

We have gone here all year to enjoy the bloody mary bar until today. I found moldy cheese half way thru my bloody. When I returned the bloody and the cheese, the manager told me that she used to work at a cheese shop and they sold cheese like that and then charged me full price. Not even an I am sorry. The lack of acknowledgement for how gross this is, I have to say I won't return.

Worst experience I have ever had at a bowling alley. We waited almost 30 minutes to get service. When we finally did get to the counter the young lady disappeared and was over talking to some customers and was hanging out on her phoneZ the young man behind the counter had absolutely no idea what he was doing. He gave us lane 6, and when we went to walk over to the lane, the young lady had already let the people that were there, start another game. When I asked the you g man for a refund he said he would hav

GREAT PLACE!!!! Always clean, amazing staff and always a good time

Good place to go bowling and a side arcade to keep those who are not blowing busy. Food was good for the kind of bar food you can get at a place like this.

My wife and I go to sparetime almost every week to bowl for cosmic bowling. Teri (manager) is awesome and extremely welcoming. We go there and feel like we are family. Workers are always friendly. Ethan should get a big shout out for all he does. Super energetic, extremely nice and a hard worker. If you need a bowling ball or get one drilled. Briley should be your go to. If I could put more than 5 stars on. I would.

Deep fried green beans are the best. Burger and fries were piping hot, delivered fresh. Only down-side,...rap was playing which is not very common for most people's taste.

Limited menu because they claim their kitchen was closed. The quesadillas were only fair. The service however was wonderful and the waitress did everything she could to apologize for the poor menu selections.

I was there for pool league... service was just ok... the waiter would come to the tables and ask a couple that was there for a while if they were ok but, when I asked for something said that if you're in league you had to go to the bar to order...I didn't want food just a drink?!? You'd think he'd want a tip?!? Well, here's your tip... maybe go the extra mile to help... it's called good customer service which at this place is very hard to get!!

Food was great. Good sized portions. Waiter was friendly and on top of things. No complaints. Definitely stop again and try some other things on the menu.

Lots of great food and fun. Sizable arcade with unique and entertaining games. The bowling alley was great, but didn't have a great variety of bowling balls for me; it was hard to find a heavier ball that I could still hold onto because the finger holes were too big. Bring your friends and family for a great night of entertainment! #bowling #arcade #SpareTimeEntertainment

Great bowling alley and bar !

For the most part it was ok. We went for my sons birthday this past saturday. One of the younger girls were extremely rude. When we were first checking in we decided to do laser tag. The young man who helped us was really nice. But when we started to pay the girl came around the corner, look what we paid for rolls her eyes and says to the boy, can you go setup for laser tag for someone who's not them. Referring to us so i shrugged it off. We went to play our bowling game then went up for laser tag waited 20

We had a great time at Spare Time, all the staff were friendly and went above and beyond especially the counter man Gary ?? who made sure we knew all about the extra games and mini games w/ bowling and laser tag. The laser tag room is pretty awesome with a sweet paint Job recommend you check it out if you like arcades and laser tag!

Bowl, drink, arcade and host. Spare time has the space and ability to host you and everyone you know. The arcade games are in working order and the lanes are clean. The bar has a good variety of options and the food is good. Get wasted here today!

First time here. Service is very good. Food came out quick and it was very well done. Had a three cheese spicy burger and it was done perfectly. Will be back.

I had a bad experience at spartime I went there at the time I did to use my free laser tag cards and play arcade after, but the closed the arcade 25 mins early and after that Michelle pool continued to tell me an my friends to leave if we weren't purchasing anything less than 2 minutes after we finished laser tag at that moment I asked for her name and maybe an owners phone number because they were personally own (she previously told me) she started to tell me the owners number and after I had made the comm

In a town with limited options this place makes no effort; terrible food, over priced and small food portions, slow and lazy staff, but that's okay with the management because there's no where else for the citizens of Owatonna to go. Shame really because with just a little effort this place could be awesome. If you can, head to Busters and Dave's in the metro, your family and friends will thank you.

Let's the kids bowl and ate some great food. Fun place to enjoy with friends and family

Waited in line forever with no one before me before anyone would acknowledge me or my family. Was able to get 2 lanes then after bowling for an hour was told that I needed to be moved but could only have 1 lane which wasn't going to work with 10 people playing. So before I was told to move with the intent to play 3/4 games we ordered 70$ food, but wasn't able to cancel because it was being made.

Very well kept up and clean. Great seating for bowling. Great arcade and laser tag. Fantastic food and service. Easily one of the best places in town to spend a Friday night.

Nice lanes and arcade selection. Reasonable prices. Jumbo pretzel was a great snack to enjoy with our beverages while we played a couple strings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Why are arcade prize games so exciting to play?

Arcade prize games are a thrilling highlight in 2025! Claw machines, skee-ball, and ticket-redemption games like basketball offer a rush of skill and chance, with rewards like plushies, toys, or electronics up for grabs. Modern machines feature vibrant lights, digital scoreboards, and responsive controls, amplifying the fun. The lively arcade atmosphere, with cheering crowds and buzzing energy, makes every win feel epic.
