Customer Reviews

Spare Time in Colchester is an amazing spot and one of the best places to visit in Vermont for indoor fun! Conveniently located just across from Costco Wholesale, it offers plenty of parking. This place has something for everyone?whether you're a kid or an adult. From bowling to laser tag and many other exciting games, there's no shortage of entertainment. The atmosphere is lively and perfect for spending quality time with friends and family. Inside, there's also a great selection of food and a fully stoc

Enjoyed the evening, celebrating the birthday of a friend by doing an escape room, bowling, and doing laser tag as well as playing some video games. They've got it all! Quite enjoyed the games, the escape room, the laser tag, but the food and service for food was underwhelming.

We had a fantastic time. We'll maintained lanes, the shoes weren't gross, and the laser tag and arcade was solid!! Honestly want to go back to try the escape room. This place was very accommodating to our large group.

Great place for the whole family and fun atmosphere. Arcade is perfect to for kids. Laser tag and escape rooms. I think they have events rooms upstairs as well. 2nd year celebrating my birthday here. To save money, call and tell them you want the ?Party On? package ($159.99 per lane). It includes: ? 2 Hours of Bowling ? Shoe Rental for up to 6 guests per lane ? One 16? Cheese or Pepperoni Pizza per lane ? Choice of One Appetizer Platter per lane ? Soft Drinks Food is good! If you have kids, nephews and niec

A lot of broke, games off line, incorrect ticket counters in the gaming area. Game prices are very high compared/prize pricing exceptionally high. Plan on two hours three people over &100.00 plus extra for activities.

Very nice bowling alley with reasonable prices. Burlington is a town of 44,000 people and they have many of there so i ask, why can't we have a place like this?

They have great deals. However the Arcade can be a buzz kill only when games take your money and don't function at all. Staff were more than willing to help which was super and gave credits back. Seems annoying for them cause it happened to us like 4 times. Pretty sure I just let them have 2 dollars out of frustration. Will return to see

After party for my son's school. They rented us several bowling lanes and brought enormous pizzas the kids all had a blast. It felt really safe, clean, great help, cannot recommend enough

Been a couple of times during regular hours but most recently took advantage of their New Year's event deal. What a deal! We had an amazing time with our group and discussed multiple times how we'd happily do it again. There were plenty of staff available to keep things running really smoothly and everyone was very nice and holiday cheerful. The food is not very good. It's better than Tony's, but the sauce is actually quite spicy (thinking more about kids), and the crust is like a flavorless cracker. The t

Great space and friendly staff. Also a nice beer selection for a bowling alley. I also enjoyed the arcade as it really gave the entire family an activity. I do wish the bar could take cash, but I can see this is becoming less and less of an option at a lot of places. We had a catered meal here that was fantastic food!

Came here on a Sunday. A lot of games available. Our 6 year old had fun. We also did Lazer tag. Very fun! 2 levels makes 15 minutes to by fast.

This has so many video games Dowling balls, an Escape Room, food and bar! A popular entertainment destination with plenty to enjoy! Be prepared enter a highly competitive, noisy, fun place that's more like a grown ups Chuckie cheese. If you can't find it here as far as gaming, I'd be surprised! Lots to see, hear and experience.

Food was amazing kind of disappointing that a lot of the games were not functioning staff was super nice.

Tuesdays are half price games and half price laser tag. Combine that with email the offers and you have a great outing.

My group of photographers had an absolute blast at Spare Time in Colchester, Vermont! We visited during a photo conference and were delighted by the range of activities available. From bowling to arcade games, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The staff was friendly and accommodating, ensuring that our visit was memorable. If you're looking for a fun-filled outing with friends or colleagues, Spare Time is the place to be in Colchester! Marisa Balletti-Lavoie

Always have the best time here whether bowling or playing arcade games. Lord Jess always ensures we have the best time possible and is extremely accommodating. Make sure to say hi if you see her, she's the reason we keep coming back!

Wow amazing bowling alley and management came to our aid with a very reassuring solution. The manager sorry I don't know his name: credited us for damage to our Bowling ball caused by a nail exposed on the lane. What a gentleman ?? See the enclosed pictures a clean well managed bowling alley with fair prices. Thanks Mark & Shelagh

Good time but pricey. Plus the bowling has a one hour time limit. So,don't wait on food or drinks.

Bachelorette Party fun and Spare Time had it all - food, drinks, bowling, and other activities wit was a great way to kick off a weekend celebration!

I love Spare Time, they rock! I love the arcade more than anything; it's great to feel like a kid as soon as you step in.

Shared my grandson's 13th party here. Service was great and helpful. Food was fresh, party room awesome! Laser tag, video games and of course the bowling! Anazing!

Went for a bday party. Lots of room awesome arcade. The. Day party experience seemed a little too scheduled to me so kids wanted to do one thing but the schedule said another. Would be nice to go and do as we please But def recommend place

With my wife, we visited this amazing place in March 2024. The signboard was all about that place!!! Good food! Good people! Good sport!. Our waitress Kayla was very nice, fast, and absolutely did her best for us!!! Recommend Spare Time Colchester!!!!! We will be back there)))

Great variety of games, good bowling, fun laser tag. Our son loves to have birthdays there. Only negative was the insane and off-putting tipping policy for party hostess. We dropped over $400 on the party package for 12 kids, then are told we ?should tip? 20% or $80 to the hostess we had for 2 hours? She was very nice and helpful but $80? Really? That's more than an expensive restaurant, by far. This tipping nonsense is out of control. I shouldn't be made to feel guilty for giving the hostess $40 for bringi

Beautiful place, a lot of activities, and what make this place unique, as it have a vaste place, it's clean and not too noisy as the other arcade I been to.

Good family fun. I took my 86 year old father bowling and even did a little axe throwing in the arcade. Had a blast cant wait to go back.

With four kids, arcades can become expensive. Spare time has great selection, good people, and they do deals that make it easier to get out. Grey Tuesday is made over by half price arcade play. Suddenly Tuesday is looking up. They have several games that can be played multiplayer. Also they did a remodel not too long ago and it's beautiful and spacious. It's almost like an arcade not found in Vermont. Bowling is great too, but we tend to have more enthusiasm for arcade than bowling. It's the best spot

I took part in one of those $50 game play for $100 deals and I won't do that again. Not only were several machines broken, but then I won 1000 tickets on this one game twice in a row, plus a bunch of other tickets, and when I got to the counter she said I only had 1090 tickets, So I'd like to know where the rest ran off to. I've been to arcades in 7 states now, and this one was the worst in terms of money spent vs reward received. An absolute scam.

Went there on a college trip! It was tons of fun! Really enjoyed the glowing lights they turned on once it got dark too! Pizza was pretty good (for a bowling alley), and all the people who worked there were super helpful and kind! All and all really great place!

The price on Sunday nights is great! We had a great time for 2 hours. The regular price is too much!

My work had a company party at spare time and all the staff were amazing especially Noah V who made sure my tickets were counted properly!! thank you Noah and all others :)

Fun for every age, & it is a great place to go when the temperatures outside are below zero. I am only giving 4 star's because food and drinks are spendy and not always the best quality. If the costs didn't add up so quickly we would probably go more often.

This entire place is a money grab. Every single arcade game is greedily $1.25 for ten seconds of disappointing entertainment. Foods greasy but not in the good way. They won't give you change at the bar when you use cash, and they play tiktoks in the background of the alley so you can't even escape the bombarding of media and advertisement. The whole point of bowling is they youre spending quality time with people, but instead the choose to cater to all the "iPad" kids running around screaming. There is enti

Wow, what a place to play arcade games, axe throwing, escape rooms, lazer tag, bowling, and probably more! There is a bar and restaurant with good food and drink selections. Everyone we dealt with were awesome and friendly even though it was very busy.

We had a blast. Giant pretzel. This place is overstimulation in a fun way.

This place is awesome - partly because it seems like it's likely been left unchanged from as long ago as the early 1990s. The bowling is fun and the laser tag is even better. Perfect for a night out or a company team building event! Regardless of why you come, Spare Time will likely bring out the inner child in you! (IceFury Out)

We've been going to spare time for over 2 years we go bowling Friday night all the staff are awesome here kitchen bartender waitress there is one we love so much her name is Melinda she's always checking on us the staff in the front office awesome we always take care of them making brownies cookies and they take care of us we get the bowling league price it's going to be hard now getting busy now I can understand the price and getting busy I love my bowling my hobby we're going to try to come every Friday i

Really clean. Staff is friendly. Lanes are well maintained. The restaurant is way over priced and feels understaffed. We have yet to have a really outstanding experience there BUT the servers from Super Bowl Sunday walking the lanes and serving were outstanding! We go back here more than why other local indoor activity even though it's a 30+ minute trip one way. My family and I really enjoy Spare Time!

Fun, affordable, clean, accessible. Have been bowling a few times and have had a great time. The arcade is also a fun time. They have an accessible ramp to the bowling floor as well as ramps and bumpers to make the game playable for everyone. It's surprisingly clean for a bowling alley, and though the food is your typical cheap stuff like mozz sticks, wings, giant pretzels, they also have drinks which are decently made and affordable. It's a good place for an affordable good time.

If I could leave zero stars, I would. I went in last week and experienced the most god awful customer service from Emma, who is supposedly a manager. You really shouldn't allow employees to be condescending and downright rude to paying customers, or anybody really. Do better.

I had a blast time with my friend going bowling here! It's my first time going bowling since October 2018; I still have some of experience in myself (including bowling tricks) it's so fun to get yourself back into track to go join bowling league (I might be doing that in my state [California]). This place is definitely recommended for people who wanted to have fun going bowling and drinking beer (more seriously if you are bowling league!) ????

Great atmosphere, decor matches the vibe well. Love the updates that were done to this place!

I want to start off by saying I generally do not leave reviews. However, my family and I went there over the weekend and we had a decent sized group. The wait time wasn't as long as we expected which was nice. However it is a little more expensive than I anticipated.. Not a big deal compared to the rest of our experience. Our server Melinda was not attentive whatsoever. We ended up going to the bar majority of the time as we were patiently waiting for her to come and grab our drink orders. The food was amaz

Refused to accept cash payment for bowling which is illegal. The restaurant accepted cash but refused to refund any change.

Service was terrible, staff was rude as hell, and pricing was outrageous. $50 for only one hour!? Not including shoes!? Not only is pricing outrageous, but the fact that they no longer accept cash is completely unacceptable. The old set up was way better. You didn't need to pay $50 for only two people for only one hour and then another $30 for shoes. Staff gave us attitude when we tried to pay with cash because we weren't aware that the policy had changed. They rushed us through payment even though there wa

We did the escape room, which was awesome. We loaded some money onto card to play in the arcade, but the VR games we tried didn't work after we swiped our cards and left us with a zero balance. That wasn't great

I visited Spare Time with my close friends this weekend hoping to enjoy some bowling and arcade games. However, this was not possible as when we were in the arcade and hit the "jackpot" on one of the games, and went to go redeem our tickets, we were denied them. Even though I provided the arcade workers with photographic evidence of the number displayed on the game screen, we were made out to seem like we were lying. I find it ridiculous that after spending more than $50 on credit for these games, the staff

Stars based on Arcade only and laser tag have bowled here before gonna have too again before I change anything.Had a good time here went to spend time with my nephew on his birthday. played in the game room . Laser tag is limted to your party only, the arcade was pretty full and didn't make much sense to me since there's more distance from each other in there than there in the arcade. Everyone had masks on but didn't seem to see people wiping stuff down as often as one would think they would be. The games

Amazing bowling arena. They have loads of arcade games too. I will definitely go back soon.

Went last week and a young girl named Emma was very rude and condescending. From the moment we walked in she had a very negative attitude. You really shouldnt have people working who dont want to work with the public. As a customer service worker myself I expect better especially from such a "famous" company. Ill never be back, I would leave zero stars if I could.

This is a nice place for the kids to burn off some energy. Especially on rainy/cold days. The staff were very pleasant and patient. There is also restaurant/pub to grab food. A one stop location for all. Bowling and laser tag is a bonus!

Clean and friendly. I did think the price of the arcade games($1.50 per game) to be a bit high. Bowling was great. Had a great time

Went for a work outting and had a blast! Special shout-out to Melon for helping make my team night out great! Melon was the superstar helped keep us safe during laser tag and still kept things fun, then helped me pick out prizes with my winnings! Thank you! The manager Jake was nice as well and as a fellow manager it's nice to see them on the floor working along side their crew! Laser tag was so fun, as well as all the arcade games we played and the escape room. We rented a room upstairs for our part

Went to the new years event scheduled 10:30 to 1AM. Bar and restaurant closed at 11:30 with no warning or last call. Waitress for the lanes wasn't informed until they were already closed that it was closing. Posted on door that bar and restaurant would be open as long as the event was.

Very clean location. Took a few kiddos (ages 7-10) for an impromptu bowling trip. Had a great time. I did not like that we had to wait nearly 5 minutes for service when there were 4 people working the counter. One was on the phone, and three had their backs to us. I will say, that almost as soon as one of the folks who had their backs to us went to grab her water (so she finally saw us), she did tend to us. (I would take off half a star for the wait, but we can't do half stars). We will definitely be back

A lot of fun!! Good food good atmosphere

I have been coming here for a couple weeks now and Jill the lane server is the nicest server I have ever had. She is really on top of everything and I appreciate her kindness. I love coming to Spare Time!

Definitely the best bowling alley in Vermont. They keep the planes in good condition and there are plenty of balls to use. They also have a game room, laser tag and restaurant attached. Great place for all ages.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting an entertainment facility that completely exceeded my expectations, and I owe a significant part of my wonderful experience to an outstanding individual named Patrick. From the moment I stepped into the venue, Patrick's dedication to providing top-notch service and creating a vibrant atmosphere for customers was evident. First and foremost, Patrick's attention to detail is truly commendable. Whether it was ensuring that the bowling lanes were impeccably set up or met

The kids had a great time; laser tag, escape room, arcade with prizes, bowling, lunch. The food was good, and the bowling lanes had the modern automated scoring system (the kids loved that they could make up a name and take a funny picture). Also, the programmable bumpers were great for my daughter. I'm sure we will be back!

We have had multiple issues regarding lane reservations and walk in service for bowling. As much as we love the facility and so do our kids. There is little to be done to ensure lanes for shorter periods especially for families with small children. For adults we even have walked in and been told about hour plus waits with more than 5 lanes open. I have asked them to review this policy to be more inclusive of families with small children and was given lip service. For $60/ hr. I'm sure they could carve out a

We had a birthday party here! Clean facility, lots to do, and I fully recommend hosting a party here!

Had my child's birthday party here. We only did the game cards but it could have been explained better. It's a bit pricey but I didn't have a pile of kids at my house.

I took my 5 year old daughter there yesterday for the first time. We were hoping it was like zackeries pizza where little kids can win prizes sometimes. The people bowling look like they were having fun. I understand they are more about bowling then the arcade games. Everything was clean and nice. I just wished it was set up more for small kids

I had a great experience here. Clean family atmosphere, good pub-style food, table service, beer and mixed drinks. Oh, and bowling!! Good times! I will say we had a small child with us and when the ball was rolled slowly it didn't seem to take a straight line. If I were a professional I might gripe, but it did not affect our evening at all. I will definitely do it again!

Old school entertainment and eats for humans. Air quality and light levels as per expectations. Space and time follow the normal rules.

Fun place to hangout. The night bowling is impressive and so is the Share time Ice cream bowl for many to share!!! Staff is courteous. Great environment escape rooms and Lazer tag!! Check it out!!!?

Had a great time in the arcade with our kids but the restaurant service was horrible. We waited for 90 mins for a table and then it took another 60 mins to get our food. Once we finally got our bill we then waited another 25 mins for the waitress to come back so we could pay. Horrible experience and our kids were miserable It was a Tuesday night and there were only 3 other tables being served. They only had 1 waitress. There were 2 other women "working" who were just walking around doing NOTHING!!

Our first time being here while on vacation love the many lanes and good customer service. It's nice for family or alone time and would be a nice ice breaker for a first-time date or your 230 date night. The place was clean, including the bathroom and expected price for food and drink in a bowling alley and lots of parking.

One of the nicer bowling alleys I've been to + it has a arcade and even laser tag! Staff are also really nice and patient even when it's crowded.

Very nice and clean! I had a blast with my friends bowling and playing laser tag. Obviously the prizes could be better but I won't hold it against yall

A very clean and fun space with a mix of new and retro vibes. The food (appetizers) was good. On par price-wise with many mid-level chain restaurants. They have bumpers and supports for children and people with disabilities (wheelchair accessible bowling is possible, but offers little control over the ball). We only bowled, but the space has tons more to offer. I hope to come back and explore some more.

My first visit with the Mcmahon family was awesome!! Brother in law Roberto and my sister Becky!! Can't wait to come again. The best food, arcade, and blowing entertainment ever!!

Your standard arcade games, nothing crazy. A good few bowling lanes and some pretty good food

Clean, well kept decor, electronic scoring and a large gaming area. Our family had a blast.

Update: we called the manager who was very nice and offered a refund due to the broken clue. We appreciated that gesture very much. Bowling was a great experience. 5/5 However, the escape room was not. 1/5 I've been to multiple any rooms and this by far is the worst one. The puzzles did not have logical flow. There was no way to solve it without getting a clue. And to top it off some of the clues were broken. We were stuck on one clue for the longest time, and despite ringing the bell for clues, we cannot

Great environment, food was okay, need or order and they bring to your alley. Great spot to take your kids.

Tried the sampler and shared it with my wife and it was great. She ate the sliders and I ate everything else. Win-win. Our waitress was good and funny also. Very pleasant.

Super fun. But super expensive. The arcade is full of games but a lot of them are similar/duplicates. We ordered the onion rings and the fried pickles. Both were super tasty, fresh and gone within minutes. For $7 the portion size is small. More like for one person. The alcoholic drinks were great but expensive as well. Good side was time flew and we had fun. Just what we needed. Definitely gonna try to go back.

We went to their 30 minute escape room, Gold Rush, and had a blast!! It's great for first timers, which we were. We then spent 2 hours bowling, had the best time. Everything has been upgraded. The grill has great food. Highly recommend!

Got the leprechaun leprechaunered at this bowling alley. Despite asking all the staff where the gold was at they pretended to not know. Bowled a few games (perfect score, three rounds of all strikes) but the leprechaun remained hidden. If you spend 10,0000 dollars in the arcade you can take home a LEGO chewbacca which is sorta the original Minecraft before computers were a thing. Ironic to win such a toy by playing computer games, truly a world of contrasts

I had a family gathering/celebration here with 30 guests. This was a perfect place to have a fun relaxed activity. I was really impressed with the event management team at sparetime. Someone would also be available to talk before the event and assist with all our needs and requests. They had all the resources to meet our needs and I had a very pleasant experience and will definitely be returning to sparetime. At the day of the event I found that everything was ready just as we had discussed although we made

VERY expensive. I highly recommend two lanes... Not much room to move or sit otherwise. Someone really loves oregano in the kitchen, (you've been warned). Other than that it was clean and the kids had a blast

Spare time gave me something to do in place of another activity. It essentially saved the day for me. Spare time has bowling and an arcade. I managed to hang out at the arcade for three and a half hours. I will definitely go back. Maybe next time I will be able to go bowling. The night I went, there seemed to be a league practice going on.

I can't believe this gem exists! Good food, and incredible cocktails. All the staff goes above and beyond. However, Jessica ALWAYS makes customers needs a priority. If you are visiting, or live local, this is the spot to cultivate a serendipitous evening of happiness/excitement.

One star for the escape room experience, I've been to multiple escape rooms and this was by far the worst. One of the clues was broken and we spent 20 minutes trying to get it to work before deciding to leave the room early. The person in charge seemed to be getting increasingly agitated with us because we asked for a hint but couldn't understand what she was saying over the noise of in the room. When we asked her to repeat the hint, we still could not understand the words, but could hear the irritation in

Great updates to an already fun place! Bowling seating is comfier and more adult friendly, game room is bigger and better. Laser tag is as fun as always. Have been there for two very different parties and am impressed by the food options and attention to detail by the staff.

Great experience, all went well was unsure if I was even going to be able to bowl because of long wait time. Came back, and Patrick a great man and awesome person got me and my friends right! He's the GOAT forreal

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
