This place is so awesome. We started at the arcade and had a blast, then moved over to bowling and food. Our servers name was Odie and he was just an amazing guy. Continued to check up on us the entire night along with bringing laughs and smiles. The bowling lanes are so fun letting you choose what lane you would like to play on. I would recommend this place to anyone! We also got the share able ice cream and man is it amazing!
Odie the bartender is fantastic, he's served me and the friends I've brought to Spare Time every time I've gone. I've never had a bad experience with him or any of the other servers, the arcade is super fun. It definitely is an attention grabber, changed games on a constant basis but, like many bowling alleys, can be a bit pricey. Overall though, it's a fantastic place and one of the best entertainment centers in Cedar Rapids!
I came with a group of friends for Pride Night and it was so much fun! The staff were all incredibly helpful and friendly. We bowled and played laser tag and had a blast! Looking forward to coming back sometime. Thank you for showing your support to the LGBTQ+ community! ????????
Went here for my son?s birthday the other day. We had our family and some of his friends here and the staff were so kind. One of the staff was super kind when he found out it was his birthday and loaded his game card which was unexpected and I'm sure they don't do that for everyone and it was just out of the kindness of his heart but that was so sweet. With seven teens eating and playing games still paid far less then we would have when we were looking at another place that had food and arcade plus there we
We go there a lot they have many things to do such as arcade games, bowling alleys, and escape rooms, also lazer tag. And many other things to do there. Staff is great and nice and quick to get things. Games are easy to win (to me I don't know other people) they don't take much skill to do. Over all super great place to go eat and have fun. They also do great birthday party?s we have had 7 there.
$1.50 a game for the arcade and a bunch aren't working Took pics to show how rigged the place is. This game is literally impossible to win because they actually removed one of the pieces so you can never complete it. It's very disappointing to pay $1.50 per game (lowest priced games) all the way up to $4 a game and not even have a fair chance. Staff were there but not very helpful. After over $100 spent we wound up with 30 jolly ranchers as a prize ?? Wouldn't recommend
We had my daughter?s eleventh birthday party here this year and it was a great success! We purchased the gamer package which included an hour of unlimited games, pizza, drinks, and several reserved tables. We also purchased laser tag which was an additional fee. There a good mix of games in the arcade - both old school as well as newer VR. The kids had a blast, and as a parent I appreciated how thoughtful and organized the staff were.
Super fun place. Went here for a work holiday party and have been back several times because it is so fun! Video games, laser tag and bowling too. Fun kid type games that dispense tickets for prizes. Was skeptical about the food but it was great. Had wings and sandwiches. Food came out fast and hot and it was surprisingly good. Server was fun and attentive. Nice selection of beers and spirits. For sure will be back
So they asked me to give them a review.... here it for somebody to set up a party and not get offer the elite room or even know about the elite room for birthday party which was never mention horrible. For them to ask me for a review and say somebody would reach out after a week no call first was force to pay for 10 people when I'm thinking only 5 or 6 people show up which I knew already. Food arrive to us cold. We had a new staff work and was still over charge and even the kids wasn't happy about our exper
This place was hopping tonight! I didn't even know they had opened until I drove by and saw the packed parking lot. I'd been waiting for it to open and decided to check it out. I was going to eat in the regular dining area but there was 1 1/2 hour wait so I decided to eat at the bar. It did take a while for them to get to me but that's understandable, due to the fact they just opened and were super busy because of that. The bartender Patrick, was awesome. He's getting a good tip. He made sure I got what I
Terrific experience! We hosted our family at SpareTime for a fun post-Christmas gathering. Destiny and the team did a terrific job of helping us plan the details in advance and making our experience a memorable one! From bowling, video games, laser tag, and more - the kids aged 4 - 19 had a terrific time! (as did the aunts, uncles, and grandparents!) The food was great and service outstanding. We'll definitely be back!
Been there done that. Balls kind of suck. Lanes seemed narrow, lane was not slick, balls didn't want to roll not that I'm a great bowler. Game selection would be good for kids. It was pretty expensive if you ask me. Got two stuffed toys for the dogs.
We had a small group of kids just playing arcade games and having a couple appetizers and drinks and we were shocked at how fast the money went on the games and how much the prizes cost. The food was reasonable and adequate, sodas were sodas, but spending a much as we did in the arcade alone was ridiculous. The prices on bowling, etc, were quite high as well. Cool looking place, doubt we will retirn
Honestly it was fun and all together a good time. Unfortunately this is the second time ive been here and the second time the bar tender was absolutely terrible to us. We were waiting in line for 10 minutes for him to help other people before even acknowledging we were there and to top it all off he told us we had to get in line to get a simple glass of pop. Some Bald guy, he said you can either wait in line or find someone with a black shirt on to help us. Other then his unprofessional attitude I had a exp
I'd give it 0/5 if I could, their lanes damaged my bowling balls which each have less than 30 games. I showed them the damage and they said "well it doesn't happen to our balls" When I checked out the house balls they all had the same type of damage.
Very cool place with a lot to do, especially for Cedar Rapids. However, the service there is noticeably bad, the drinks are waaaayyyyy overpriced...No everything is overpriced x 3. A margarita on the rocks for me and a small Icey for my daughter cost $19.89. I can compare it to going to a big theme park while on vacation. It's awesome & fun to go to once in awhile, but like foolishly expensive. Their arcade games are pretty good... They certainly have a lot of them ...ax throwing, riding motorcycles, ski b
The plethora of lanes made it easy to get a spot right away without a reservation. The atmosphere was fun and inviting. The staff were friendly and helpful. A great place for kids and parents alike, complete with arcade, food, and a full bar! Definitely will come here again when I'm in town.
Did an escape room at Mi d Games. It was easy to get in, description was good and the atmosphere was great. One of the puzzles didn't work, but otherwise was a great time with good support.
Very nice clean establishment! I loved the set up, very spacious with nice decorations. A lot of games to play and very delicious food! Good service. Games and bowing are a little bit on the pricey side. The only thing that I wasn't a fan of was the claw machines being rigged for people to lose. I expect the claw machines to be junk at Walmart but not at a family establishment. Kids should be able to win these prizes if the claw machine picks them up. The machine would grab the items then drop them before l
Man what a blast. It's a fun place to go and probably won't experience everything on your first visit. Plus they have Luigi's mansion. Though the game will suck your money dry within minutes, it's still fun to experience. I'm not going to review the game but I will say it's very similar from a mechanical point of view for a normal Luigi's Mansion game. Even though playing the game is purely stationary and on rails. Please remember it has two buttons.
Pricing is pretty high, but the facility is nice. They do run specials sometimes which is nice. Food is okay and the drinks are always correct.
Cool place for bowling. I can't say anything else about the place, because I just bowled with some friends. I gave only 4 stars for this reason. They are similar to a Dave and Busters with video games and a restaurant. I didn't use those services, so if I ever do I will adjust my review. I do recommend this place for bowling.
Great staff. Plenty of entertainment. Bowling lanes are clean and well maintained. We brought in the New Year here and spent far less than expected! Even brought us out complimentary glasses of champagne! Thank you Spare Time!
Cool place, went here with a couple buddies from hs and had a great time. Tons of games, bowling lanes, and also a nice bar. Workers were all very great, the general manager was polite and helpful along with the workers who were wiping down tables at the end of the night! Compared to the Cedar Rapids bowling center, this was about the same price on a Saturday night. I prefer this bowling alley as it's nicer and has more to do.
Went on a Thursday around 5pm. Not too terribly busy. Staff was friendly, food was good. I'm glad there's more options than just pizza. But we still got a pizza, lol. And a pretzel. Prices are what I'd expected. I think the points required to buy items is pretty steep. It was fun and a great experience anyhow. It hurt my heart when Westdale Bowling closed (remember the $1 beers and hot dogs?!?) but this is an adequate replacement. We will be back several times I am sure.
Tia was amazing! My partner and I went to the service industry night hosted by spare time and her and the whole staff were so attentive and kind. I appreciate their hospitality!! Come to spare time !!
Spare Time events coordinator Destiny was amazing and came through for us in. API ch when an important event reservation fell through 2 days before it! She moved quickly to make sure we had everything we needed for the night in the Elite Party room which was so perfect for our event! She and our server for the night Allison were so sweet and accommodating and took excellent care of us the whole night! I would definitely recommend booking your event here! If we had known the room came with a private bowling
I usually like this place today at 545 sit for 25 minutes at bar they served everyone but us. It's ok they were uncomfortable with our skin color. I drove from Iowa City to go here never again!
I got a strawberry fields with a shot of peach schnapps in it, was amazing! Then we got some nachos and they were extremely delicious! The perfect ending to a hectic day!!
Such fun! A variety of things to do with good food too. Not too loud, either. Pleasant atmosphere for fun.
Went here with family and kids black friday after Thanksgiving. Staff was very cool and helpful. Games were affordable as well as the bowling. Food was good as well. Was visiting from out of town. Will return
I can't say enough good things about our family lunch gathering here. The staff and management were cheerful, efficient, and accommodating of our big group. Thanks for making it a special day for us!
Games too pricey for the prizes you can get. Service is terrible and pizza was burnt and meat tasted funny on the meat lovers. Waitress only took part of our parties orders and didn't come back only once to check on refills.
We did the lanes and laser bash for our son?s birthday and it was one of the best decisions. All the kids had so much fun, we didn't have to worry about food or the clean up and we had a dedicated party host to help keep us on schedule. Our party host Max was absolutely brilliant she was kind and knew what she was doing and had no problem handling 14 crazy kids!
My daughter had her birthday party there and the hostess did a great job and made our experience very enjoyable.
We had my son?s birthday party at Spare Time and Addyson was absolutely awesome to work with. She handled literally everything so my wife and I could sit back and enjoy our son?s party. From wrangling kids, to serving food, to moving the party along she was AWESOME. We had a party earlier at another entertainment complex in Town and while that one was also done well Spare Time was $100 cheaper and the food was included. It was an awesome experience and we will definetly be back for parties in the future
My wife and I average $250+ on our date nights so this isn't about cost. It's principle. They only offer hourly rates. We're on our last game with 1.5 frames left total (see picture) and time expires. Not allowed to complete the game. We were prepared to spend another $200 on the arcade, but bailed immediately after this experience. I really thought I found a good place after transplanting from a big city, but I was clearly wrong. Food is average for an Iowa dive bar, but even chain food in other cities wou
Arcade has a pretty wide variety of games to choose from. Haven't gone bowling there, but it seems like a nice alley. I've done two of the escape rooms there (the Pharoah one and the Submarine one), and I can say they're pretty good for the price! Arcade got pretty pricey, I also wish there were some more things in the prize area. I also feel like a game has an issue every single time I visit. Would recommend this place, just bring some money!
Had some issues with pins getting scored that didn't get knocked over. Acoustics aren't great so if the front area is busy it might be best to bowl somewhere else. Could include more bowling balls with varying size/spacing
Went there for wedding reception. Friendly and accommodating staff. Well kept place.
Had a blast. Some of the machines were down though. If you get a chance do one of the escape rooms.
I rarely write reviews but wanted to give special thanks to the staff at Spare Time in Cedar Rapids. Had a birthday party there, and the manager on duty handling the escape rooms, etc., was very helpful and accomodating to whatever we needed (forgot his name, a black guy probably in his late twenties or thirties), also the bartender, Odie, served our party all night long and everybody agreed his service was amazing, he even took pictures of the group at the end of night. The entire venue was great but those
If I could I would give this place a half of a star because I went to the arcade area anI did a claw machine and I got 950 points but the claw dropped it before it got to the drop spot. So I talked to a worker about to it and they told me to go to the claw machine and wait for a worker to Come and it took over 15 minutes for a worker to come and help. Then I talked to the worker and they said that it is programed to drop the tickets if there are two or more bands of tickets then they gave me 300 ticket ins
We had our daughter's birthday party there, it was a good deal for the price. And the party host was GREAT. They made it super easy to have kids of all ages at the party, plus parents. The party host also sent a Thank you note with coupons, and even took the time to do a little doodle on the card, it was sweet. Thank you Addyson!!
Had a get time on Sunday during the Hawk game so it was fairly dead. While we ate we noticed someone always cleaning the machines which you don't usually see places with games doing that. Service for food that day one would have thought it would have been spot on not being busy but had to walk up to get my own refill since waitress was to busy talking with other employees. Also careful in the parking lot with kids no one has common sense.
We held our corporate event with Spare Time and our experience was excellent! We ordered our food to come out at a specified time and they had it out on time all hot and set up with food tables behind the lanes we were bowling on. The food was excellent and hot! Brea took care of our drink needs and was super attentive and served our drinks to each person individually giving us excellent personal attention! Everyone had a great time! Thank you Destiny for your help planning our event there!
If I pay for a Saturday price I expect modern music. Why are you playing "only in my dreams" and " can't get enough of you baby" might be why it's empty at 8:11pm
We visited on July 20, 2024 to celebrate my daughter's birthday. She went to the desk to receive her card for $10 of free play that was emailed to her as a gift from Spare Time. The employee told her she had to have her own card to receive the $10 gift. I was furious! This has never been the policy before! I also asked to purchase a card fir her friend and I was told "NO" I had to get purchase her card from the Kiosk and I was charged a fee of $3.00. This is stupid! I will make sure I keep my cards for fu
We had a birthday party here on Saturday and I'm not going to lie, it was NOT great. We arrived ten minutes early and nothing was ready. I don't know that it was even ready by the scheduled start time?we felt like an afterthought throughout the entire event. The ?trained? hosts did not really seem like they knew what was going on, they were very passive and not extremely helpful in directing the event. We had a lot of kids who had no idea what was going on, and we didn't really either. It took forever to f
This is the worst bowling "alley" that I've ever been to. They either have way to much oil or no oil at all. You shouldn't be at a disadvantage when you own your own equipment.
I love this business in Cedar Rapids. It's now collecting School items for children and our schools. And in return they give you some game money to have some fun. This really is a great place to go if you have some spare time you can't imagine how time flies when you're having fun at spare time! If you've never gave it a shot give it a try.
We had a great time here. We just did bowling and had a few beers but it was a blast. Good service, fun atmosphere, everything was clean. We will go again!
Clean, and fun! It is pricy but it's totally worth it for a hassle free time. A birthday package is a must if you want to have your kids' party there. There is also a huge arcade and lazer tag, AND escape rooms! Fun for all ages.
Review is mainly based on customer service. The lady that greeted us was amazing and provided us with all info we needed. The issue was the people in the bowling area. Got barbecue wings instead of buffalo and the girl didn't seem too interested in correcting it, even tried saying they were Buffalo. I asked if she was going to take the wrong ones and bring the correct ones bc she wasn't responding.. she said they would just make a new order but she needed to get a manager? She then came back later and took
fun for the whole family with bowling and games! Tuesdays are the best deal to go.
Place was clean and any staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. They didn't have much for staff so it took awhile to get food. While it is expensive for a basic burger and fries being about $10. Add a soda for $4. Each game in the arcade averages $1.50 per play. After $75 of game credits we didn't have even 2000 tickets. So the reward system for cost to game rewards is more for the experience than anything. With all that was it fun? Yes. Will we go back? Probably for some special occasion yes. Do I
First time here, kids loved it! Good food too!
Hosted a company Christmas party here. Got the high roller food package. Very good food! Good variety, friendly staff, great bartenders. Rented the Elite Room; it was perfect for our event. Very happy with how everything went. We plan to be back!
We were excited to come here for the first time and yet it was a disappointment (other than the arcade) we were so hungry that we walk-in and didn't know what to do it wasn't even that busy . I didn't know if we sat ourselves or be seated, (no sign)well I asked one of the waitresses if we sat our selves and she said ?yes if you can find a table? cool so we did and no one came to greet us or take our order. After 10 minutes I asked the same waitress where do we order ? She said the bar ok cool could have tol
Our 1st time here and the place is very nice! We planned a party for my granddaughter?s birthday and it was very disorganized. Our host was no where to be found the majority of our party. We truly handled everything ourselves. We had to ask repeatedly for plates and forks. We expressed our frustration and nothing happened. No guidance on how the party should flow. Our party included bowling, laser tag and the arcade, but our host didn't direct us on when we could do those things. The party was just under $
I would like to just brag about this location real quick. I work for a company where we care for dependent adults and this past week we brought some of our people here on an outing. It was in the morning during the weekday and we did not know that their kitchen was not open yet. The manager came out and did explain that they didn't have a cook and the ovens were not even on but he would turn them on and cook pizzas for us but it would be a while. We have a group of almost 20 people and the fact that they ac
Classy arcade, bowling alley, laser tag, and all of the other family goodness you're looking for on a cold weekend day.
Lots of fun for everybody. Lazer tag, bowling, escape room and the arcade. Awesome place
So many great arcade games and a beautiful bowling alley!!! They also have escape rooms and Lazer Tag. Not cheap, but great fun and very clean
We recently held our children's birthday party at Spare Time and it was great! Our party host, Janice, was very kind and helpful. We all had lots of fun bowling, playing laser tag, and we enjoyed the arcade. There weren't any issues whatsoever. We have also enjoyed leisurely bowling and eating with friends and family at Spare Time. We will be back!
The Arcade is good the bartender employees are great people but the one thing is the escape room employee idk who the girl name was but she was terrible we asked for hints and we only got limited ok we payed 300$ for arcade and escape room and this is the service we get never doing a escape room here ever again and most of the stuff In the room didn't even work
Nice new bowling ally. Kids bowl free during the summer is a nice program. Waitress at the lanes was attentive. Only negative was the pepperoni pizza was thin and left us hungry.
Had a great time doing the Egyptian escape room. The games are fun. The food was very good. I got the smash burger. And the GM was amazing. Very helpful, very nice. This man deserves a raise.
A little pricey and no food until 4 but the place was clean, service was good.
The total experience for my boys 10th birthday was great! Don't let people tell you this place is too expensive. You really do get what you pay for! Thanks!
Had our daughters 8th birthday party at Sparetime. Could not have asked for a better time. The staff, especially Cameron(the bartender working sorry if I'm miss remembering his name) was absolutely spectacular. The escape room was perfect for the kids and everyone had a wonderful time. Thank you very much to everyone working August 9th 2024!
I have enjoyed my time spent at Spare Time! Sign up for a birthday present from them. My family and I had fun together doing one of the quests. The place is clean and every employee has been really nice. I had to give them a review with ????
Went bowling. Nice lanes, friendly staff. $45.00 for 2 people to bowl for 1 hr.
We went on Saturday night to celebrate a birthday and we were truly impressed with the lay out of the place and the pizza is so good and the adult drinks were perfect we will be back
Super nice bowling facility, and the laser tag was the best I've played! Genuinely a ton of fun. The whole place was clean and the staff was very friendly. It is slightly expensive, but overall worth it. Great place for a date. Do the laser tag! Even if it's just the two of you.
Bowling and games are too expensive for casual visits. Doing birthday parties and gatherings there is fun and is worth the investment.
The food was amazing, and the GM was super helpful and great! He was running around and making sure our whole group was taken care of. Games were okay, and the escape room was a lot of fun ?? definitely a fun place to hangout
We had our son's birthday party here and he had a blast.
I was really excited to bring my kids to the bowling alley for my daughter?s 4th birthday. The instant we sat down in the booth the waitress came over and slammed the menu in front of us and said ?if you want anything you can flag me down? and walked away. I knew exactly what we wanted but before I even knew what happened because I was helping my daughter with her shoes she was gone. She then went to the other end of the bowling alley and we had to wait over 30 minutes to finally get her attention. I had to
Update: Escape rooms are great! Not every place puts in the effort for their design; kudos. Laser Tag room is much larger than we realized. The kids had a blast and it was easy as parents to keep an eye on the smaller kids while not getting in the way. Food has stayed consistent, clean facilities, plenty of staff. It's a great company rental or birthday party. Flex on your night out and do something besides the same bars. Still a ?kid gambling? arcade - tickets, cranes, token drops. They have slipped a litt
Best party place in town, 10/10. The general manager and all the staff were so helpful and accommodating for our large party. The bill was very fair, the pizza and experience far surpassed my expectation.
Excellent place! Not bad pricing, great assortment of fun activities! Food was amazing! Specifically the chicken bacon ranch pizza Update from 8/3/22- Food was horrible. Was sitting waiting to be brought out. when it came out to us, the pretzel was cold, the cheese was cold and clumped together. We sent the cheese back and it didn't come back much better. The pizza was even somewhat cold. We had to take our cups up to ask for refills. Definitely not as good of an experience as the first visit!
The food is pretty good and has a good price. I had a Memphis chicken sandwich with really nicely seasoned tater tots and it was amazing. Service was pretty good too. The restaurant itself would be rated 4/5. The food is worth repeat business. The arcade, however, is way overpriced. Most of the games last a very short amount of time (less than a minute) but costs $1.50 per game. $20 really does not last long at all, and after all that you will only have enough tickets for a small handful of tootsie rolls. T
Food was good. But unfortunately Half of our order. The pizza didn't come until an hour later half of our party gang already ATE., we were very disappointed. Most likely none of us will return.:(
We scheduled a Birthday party over a month in advance for my Daughter. Everyone was so excited and were ready to have a blast. Boy all I have to say is what happened?? 1) When I asked about guests and explained that I have a baby under the age of one and was wondering if my baby would be counted as a guest. I was told my baby counted as a guest?sorry but my one year old shouldn't be counted as a guest. He can barely walk, let alone play any games. 2) The day of the party we were told to arrive early (10 min
Fun time and staff was very helpful, but it was expensive. I'm happy that we had purchased their $40 for $100 gameplay and I believe that we got $40 worth of games, but definitely not $100. We walked out with a handful of candy and a couple of tiny toys. We did laser tag as well and that was fun. We ordered a pizza and it was pretty good. We did enjoy ourselves and it was something different. I will watch for specials to pop up and come again.
To start this place has a great atmosphere and potential. The big flaws are that the games are super expensive, $10 at the arcade won't last long playing games here. The other issues were that we originally reserved a 2 hour slot for bowling but upon checking in we were told that we had to give up an hour because of a booked party. The other issue was the lane stopped with a decent amount of time left in our bowling time but no one seemed interested in helping and also were told the help buttons don't al
Fun place to take the grandkids! I had coupons for half off through Groupon. The bowling was very fun! The game room was a money pit for sure and could not wait to get the grands out of that area. The pizza was pretty decent for a bowling alley but a little high priced IMO.
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
