South 40

Reviews Summary

South 40 offers a lively, family-friendly atmosphere with diverse entertainment like arcades, bowling, and live events. Food quality varies—some praise burgers, pizzas, and drinks, while others find it overpriced or inconsistent. Service experiences range from exceptional (attentive staff saving parties) to poor (rude or slow service). Noise levels can be high, and arcade pricing is often criticized. Super fun hangout! We did not order any food, but we did come to play at the 1/2 priced arcade games. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are all half priced! Pretty much every game is 2 credits to play and they have unlimited play options as well. Our 4 year old and 18 month old had a blast playing all the games. There are a couple of entrances. One to the restaurant, one that goes closer to the arcade without having to walk through the restaurant and one in the backyard, back area which are not open all ti

Celebrated a birthday there on a Friday night and everything was perfect. Table was easy to book, food was delicious, live music was great and we had a blast playing games. Every team member from the person I booked our table with, to the bartenders were awesome! Thanks for a great time we will be back soon!

Perfect place for all ages, large areas for groups, fun arcade and outdoor activities. Hard to feel cramped here and they have some fun events! Food is above your average ?fun center?, and the drinks are strong with a good variety available.

Too noisy with the bingo and Star Wars Trivia night. A glass barrier or some kind of barrier would have cut the noise down. The prime rib was very good as the other couple enjoyed their meals as well. The service was good. Didn't appreciate having to yell to carry on a conversation at my table.

Been wanting to stop here for awhile and glad I finally did! Went Halloween night and it was awesome. Service was superb, food and drinks were reasonably priced and delicious, and the arcade/gaming area was so fun! I got the Atomic Bird pizza?. One of the best pizzas I've had! Strawberry Limeade for the drink during happy hour, loved it! We went to see what the rest of the building looked like, and it just kept going! So many fun arcade games, and then ping pong, bowling, and so much more in the even large

Food is decent but not great for the price. The location, games, service are all fantastic. Very clean and safe for kids. Had a party here and everything went great! Very accommodating!

Hubby really liked his Bison burger and the side house salads are good. I thought my fettuccine in the garlic cream sauce needed both more garlic and more sauce. Beer list was more limited than we thought it would be as well.

We had our daughter's birthday party with 17 kids and 8 adults. The food is pretty decent, but It's bar food. Just know that going in. The staff is fantastic. From Brandon working the games to Ashley, organizing to Jada, who was the best server ever, we had a great time. The games were so fun, the bowling, the cornhole, the arcade. A couple other parties there and the atmosphere was fun all around. Live local band. Highly recommended.

Been to a lot of place around town and elsewhere but def recommended to friends and family. For sure need to be promoted and I like the fact that it is for both adult and kid as now I have my son with that could enjoy it too. Check it out for sure. Food is good and had a wonderful experience!

Just went in for a quick after work dinner with my wife. We walked in and went to the hostess stand which was unattended. After a few minutes I asked a waiter if we should seat ourselves. He said he would be with us in a minute. Finally another food server got us a table (it was not real busy). After about five minutes, our food server came up and said are you ready. My wife ordered a glass of wine and our server said, I don't know if we have that, so my wife gave her a second option. After about another 10

This place is awesome! Sure the price per game is a bit expensive but the prizes are good and for the most part reasonably priced. The food was great (had pizza and wings) and the kids had a blast. I was able to sit and relax while the kids rode some animal cars around. Even tried out the VR games. Those were pretty fun too. I think we found a better option than the coconut bowl in sparks.

Had a party here. It was fun except the girls who ran the bar and served us were a bit rude. We spent a good amount of money on food and drinks, yet we were treated as an annoyance. I hope management recognizes this and turns it around because it's a great place with potential.

I randomly entered South 40 and ordered lunch. I was met by Brooke, who was an extremely pleasant server. I asked Brooke what they cooked their fries in. It was some standard seed oil blend. I jokingly said that they should use tallow. Brooke came back a few minutes later and informed me that she spoke to the owner and conveyed my message. To my astonishment, she said that the owner responded. "Let's do it." Brooke assured me that the owner wasn't joking and they planned to switch to tallow in substitute of

This place is lots of fun. I have enjoyed many items in their menu and the service has always been great.

First time at this place. Went for Sons birthday. Nothing really planned other then looking for place to watch football and kids to have fun. Showed up group of 30 easily accommodated. We stayed on the backside because we thought we came in front door. The owner Dennis came looking for us because we reserved tables online. He was fine with us staying in back. Showed me around. To my surprise whole other area with seating and bar. Kids not allowed in bar area in front. Arcade with many games, party ro

Counter staff was very helpful. Details of game play were precise ?? Definitely will become regulars we love the team and VS challenges ???? Bring ur A game

Our salads were dry and tasteless but the service was impeccable. Brooke was very knowledgeable and knew her establishment. We will return.

It was great but we had too ask for the basketball game even though it was the finals they responded very nicely

Fun place! Drinks are reasonable. Food was good. Dance lessons were pretty good too! Has a fun time with friends!

5 stars-they're just getting going but it has so much potential. I've been looking for a good place to take the kiddos to burn of energy while I watch the ballgames and have a few brews. All the family friendly options-Connect4/Ping Pong/Cornhole-access to the outdoors as well. Great arcade too, but nice to have free options and games to play as well. Really hope South Reno embraces this spot and it finds it's footing. Staff very friendly, helpful-Cheers!

I like that they have dancing events but on Tuesday 1/14 my boyfriend and I tried to go to the arcade but when we got there about 6pm they were closed. The note said they closed early for an employee holiday party. What holiday? I'm very curious. But it was frustrating and so unprofessional. Not a normal holiday and posted absolutely no where on social media or their site. The management obviously doesn't care too much about their business if they can't even make a quick post.

The only negative was trying to find it. There is a lot going on in that complex and construction that blocks the signs so I ended up parking at the sports complex instead of South 40. Other than that, it was an amazing experience. I ordered one of their signature drinks off their menu that was fun and tasty and ordered fish & chips for dinner, which was delicious. After dinner we did the virtual reality game room, which I HIGHLY recommend. Then chilled out in the bar playing mini bowling and listening to

Was there for the Valentines event. Lots of people, very high priced beautiful items, food served everywhere in the large building. Kids had tons of fun.

Had a family birthday there on Saturday great environment the food was good I like the different options. The service was great. I do think the arcade was expensive compared to other places in town some games went from 5 credits to 23 like why?! They have some cars/rides where kids get to drive they had fun. Overall a good experience.

A good place to take the family. There is a large arcade, bar, and a restaurant. They also have a stage for various performers.

The staff are so incredible. They are so helpful and friendly. Maria and Georgia are wonderful in the bar and Kevin is super nice This has turned out to be one of our favorite places to go.

Frozen, premade food, heated to mediocrity, with some games on the side, what more could you ask for? ?? The staff is legitimately awesome though.

Just found this place. Great food drinks and place to hang out. Always friendly.

Business Meeting small group of 10. Perfect, lite yet satisfying. Good consistent service throughout meeting. Good acoustics for small private setting. Guacamole is delicious!

Worse experience ever! Owner is a complete jerk. Food was nasty ?? found mouse droppings in the bathrooms. Do you know they are probably in the kitchens too. Even my kids wouldn't touch the food. Would not recommend to anyone. Service was awful and horribly rude. The parking lot is just as awful at night they don't bother to turn on lights when it's dark and speed bumps are not painted. Lucky someone doesn't sue

We usually love to come let our kiddos enjoy the live music on Friday nights, so for my daughter?s 5th birthday? we invited friends and family to casually come and hangout with us. Turns out, the back room was rented out and there was NO live music. I had a cake in hand with an excited little princess; I was desperate to figure out something. Brandon, the arcade manager, is the most awesome person I have met in a long time. He literally took us in stride. He took one look at the terror in my eyes and escor

We arrived at 3:30 in the afternoon to the back restaurant/game area. There was one person at the bar who did not even acknowledge our existence. I was unable to get the self order to work (IT issues with their menu). My partner and I are old and have mobility issues. I needed to raise my voice to get her attention over the music. When she came over she was quite indignant about my rudeness as to call her away from her bar. This young tall brunette actually told me that I was rude and needed to walk up

O. M. G. BEDT PLACE I HAVE EVER BEEN TO! Multiple things to do for the kids, such as 2 arcades, the main arcade, and the private party arcade. The second one isn't really considered an arcade. It's just a bunch of arcade games in a line, but it's still super fun! They have multiple different popular arcade games, such as a soccer/punching game. You have to try to beat the high score. It's a VERY fun game. ?? They also have quik-tap, a game where you have to push a button to get the balls into the buckets wi

Great staff and Menu. First time since opening. Great new feel and look. Live entertainment every Friday.

Kids, adults we all enjoyed. Food and service was great. Must check it out!!!

Good food, great service and somewhere super fun for the kids to hang out while adults can eat and play, or the kids can play and the adults hang out, both options available here!

Had a good dinner here. Biggest iceberg wedge salad I've ever seen with generous toppings. Super good cheese fries with bacon. The cheeseburger ?? my family member got was pretty nice. This place is best for it's atmosphere. There is a bar, restaurant, private banquet room, virtual reality room/experience, very big arcade, private dinner room, and a very huge event room in the back with a bar, stage, and so much other stuff. Definitely going to plan some events here!

Went for first time for sons 35th b day. Food was nothing to brag about for sure. Specifically for the price. The waitress was nice enough but that's about it.

Sunday family brunch and food was not good. Omelettes overcooked, Loco Moco no gravy, no butter for pancakes. Bacon not done. Was just there a week ago on a busy Saturday and food was great! Decided on a birthday family brunch today as it's so family friendly. Maybe the kitchen staff was short but for the price we paid won't be back to eat there.

Our meal was appetizers: Waygu Sliders with seasoned fries, a basket of fried pickles, and Parmesan chicken wings. All items were delicious!! Our first visit there, and we'll definitely be going again.

Terrific food, great service and wonderful atmosphere! Will definitely be going there again!!

It was good. It just wasn't great. Salmon was very good and cooked perfectly and just the right punch on the blackened season. asparagus was cooked well, but something funky with rice that came with the salmon -- Seemed like some bad boxed minute rice. Cardboard and no flavor. The steak frites was a disappointment also.

We were seated in the back, where the band was. The food was good. Nice selection, and they even have a happy hour menu. Took a REALLY long time to get our food, then it wasn't warm. Staff was courteous and helpful. Not nearly enough bartenders on staff for the large group there on a Friday night. It seemed like the bar backs were a bit unorganized, too. 1st time there, so I can't say if this is the norm, or a one off situation due to the events going on there that night.

This place has it all. Adult gaming and games, kids games, full bar with good whiskey, beer and wine selection, and the food is bomb. Get the Dirty Bird with bacon. Good stuff!!

Great place to have a beer and watch a game. Very kid friendly.

I enjoyed the food but the waitress was no where to be found, she was hanging out with someone in the golf area. I wanted a lemonade when I finally thought of a drink but she was no where to be found, she didn't even come by to refill my water, the guys served us and took care of us more than she did. Very disappointing.

Great place to gather friends. Food was good but bartender taking order in back was horrible.

We have attended events at south 40 for a little over 6 months now and we can not say enough good things about it! Ashley is the one who coordinated our events for us & she is absolutely wonderful! We'll continue giving them our support as long as we're in the Reno area!

One word...MEDIOCRE. Let me start with the first thing that is wrong with every restaurant in the area: the food has no flavor. Are people in Nevada allergic to salt? Don't offer bison meat if you don't know how to cook it. My bison burger took too long to come to the table. I asked for medium and it came out rare. So I had to wait gor my burger while the rest of my party finished their food. By then, I had lost my appetite. I figured I could take it home and have it later, but it wasn't good. The worst p

This is the coolest place EVER! We took our basketball teams and families for dinner while visiting Reno for the Jam On It annual tournament over Memorial Weekend. While they seemed to have no idea what was going on and, therefore, were quickly understaffed for the influx of visitors. They pivoted quickly and were still able to maintain excellent food, friendly service and the endless entertainment for everyone. I wish we had something like this in Oregon! We will definitely bet back!!

Awesome spot! So many things to do in the building. Food is really good and they bring it quickly! Drinks are fantastic and I love the soups

We decided to come eat at South 40 after my son had a basketball clinic at the swiftdome. They were busy due to a rodeo event but we were sat quickly and it looked like they had enough staff so we weren't worried. Bus boy came quickly to give us water but that's where the service took a dip. Took about 10 mins for the waiter to come take our drink order. He came back quickly and we placed our order because we didn't want him to take awhile to come back to us. Time started ticking by. 25 mins passed by and s

It was not the atmosphere we were looking for looks fun has bar food

The food came out cold and underwhelming. We ordered pulled pork nachos and chicken wings. Both were cold. Our party order 3 pulled pork nachos and they all came out on different plates with different portions and toppings. The wings had good flavor but only 7 in the basket.

Waited over an hour for 1 order of drinks and to close out. Thankful for the guy with the hat to service the full bar while the other two struggled. I think the girl?s name was Georgia? worst service ever. In an hour of standing at the bar in her ?section? (standing in the middle of the bar) she never looked at me once. I watched 4 other customers walk away, come back and be served by the other bartenders. She disappeared multiple times and just plain sucked. Very unhappy with the service as my kids love be

Food comes on great portions, so come hungry. The steak sandwich with fries were great. My friend's Cobb Salad was wonderful and she added steak patties as her protein option on top of it. Comedy show was great. Careful! The seating was very close together, closer than movie theater. I put on my face mask even though is not required. Music at the back room was great but the volume was a bit too loud for me.

I was very happy with the service when I came to celebrate my son?s 30th birthday party here on Jan 20th, Saturday, I had at least 20-25 guests and our server our party host Jordan did a fantastic job during our party, she was very nice and always came in to check on us and was always happy to serve us. The owner was super nice and super friendly also. I would totally recommend this place and would consider having more group parties here.

This place is awesome ?? ?? ?? live music and great food. Good weekend spot

Atmosphere very fun. Low score for the price of the games. Very expensive per game. The prizes are okay for the value so doesn't quite balance out.

Pizza was great. Bottomless mimosas were truly bottomless. Jenna was amazing. 10 out of 10 will go again. Asap.

They need new management. The stuff they've done for the kids is great but the food is ridiculously tasteless for the price. The drinks were great but they cost about 10 bucks a pop. You have parents there who came because their kids are having fun so the parents can drink and enjoy the atmosphere, well why charge 10 bucks a drink? For 10 dollars I have one in done, but for 6 dollars I'll have 2 or 3. I mean the math is obviously simple. And don't sell a 30 dollar wagyu burger if you don't know how to cook

South 40 was a cool spot. We mainly just ate in the restaurant area, but there is a whole play area for adults and kids. Bar games and recreation have to play. I didn't explore the whole area but it seemed like a cool place to hang.

Good service. It was our first time in. They have a lot to offer. Seems like would be more fun on a busy weekend. Friendly staff food drinks and arcade games live stage. I well be back??

I've had less institutional food in a school cafeteria. Everything we had was straight off the back of a truck and pulled from the freezer. I got fish and chips--it was literally three perfect rectangles about the size and consistency of a McDonalds hash brown. Kids got some fries with canned queso and bac-o-bits on top. Nothing made in-house. Came because I heard they had a game area--thinking it might be pool, foosball, maybe some fun video games or pinball for the kids. It was EXACTLY like Chuck-E-Chees

Ate there the night the full kitchen opened - the food was great for the price. Quality over quantity - mid-sized portions but if you're starving just get a beer. Large wine menu, smaller but still good selection of beers. My waitress, Tori (Tory?) was extremely friendly and was eager to give a tour of the place - everything is still a work in progress but so far this place looks really promising and it's clear the people running the place take pride in working there.

First time during their soft opening with a limited menu which I believe is smart. Nice atmosphere and very nice, professional and attentive staff. Caesar salad has excellent flavor. Chicken club was tasty, easy to eat and had a soft roll. French fries were crispy and had flat salt which helps the salt stick. Buffalo chicken wings had a nice flavor. I do prefer my wings a little crisper though. Sergio was great! The arcade and the backyard had alot of fun games, but we didn't play any today. We will go back

Great food and really good service. I ordered the volcano dry rub Wings which were way too spicy so the waitress let us change them out for the garlic parmesan wings at no extra charge??

Brought a group of kids for a birthday party today, we were blown away by the customer service provided by Jack and Cole, many thanks for the great time we had!!!!

We were excited to go here. They don't have any specific allergy options whatsoever. No substitutions either. Also, the kids meal choices are basic McDonald's menu items. Chicken tenders etc. Having at least a single healthy, non battered, non fried option for them would be awesome. Super large amount of space. Definitely could have awesome parties here. Although it seems like the space is too big for the concept. I'm sure they will be adding a lot more as time goes on as they are still pretty new. They ha

Great drinks and good food! The art also enhances the atmosphere and gives the dining room a chic vibe.

Amazingly good, especially for food at an arcade!!

GPS DOES NOT TAKE YOU HERE. This is in a warehouse setting. You will feel like a marble inside this place as it is so big inside. Has a little something for everyone. We were there to hear Rockslide and they were Awesome!!! Food is a little pricey but I enjoyed my chicken sandwich Sodas are served in a can

Food was subpar, customer service was okay. Super empty but fast turn around for the food was appreciated. Little kid section and large area for a large party!

I like the food that I had, but our order kept getting messed up. At the end, another table's bill was accidentally added to our. It took longer than it should have to get it sorted out. The games were fun, but a little bit more overpriced than I would have liked. Our waitress was really nice, but I could just tell she was overwhelmed.

This experience was below subpar from the very beginning. The hostess was rude and very obviously did not care to provide good service. Once seated (without silverware), our waiter was less than attentive, continuously blaming his ?hectic? evening. It took over an hour to get our food & refills. When we did receive our food, our gluten sensitive entree was served on risotto & Mac n cheese, instead of the non gluten side originally ordered. The server reassured us he double checked the order to confirm the d

Such a rip off. Arcade is so dumb. $1=1credit

We always enjoy going to the VR and then having a drink

Some of the worst food I have had in Reno. 10 people $400 for crappy bar food! Also only 3 of 10 drank alcohol, so no reason for it to be this price. Yes, I am aware of inflation, but this was overpriced and just plain gross! Super disappointed

Went for the first time with my Fiance and our friends on a Friday at 6 and it was packed. The food and atmosphere were awesome albeit pretty expensive. They had a live band who was great. The only problem we ran into was a 30 minute hold for ordering food as they were packed and couldn't handle the amount of orders. Other than that we had a great time. Thanks South 40!

Went to South 40 tonight. Good food, great wine selection - but we really go there for the kids to play in the arcade. Tonight something happened with my son?s game card and was beyond impressed with the customer service from the arcade staff. Thanks South 40! Definitely won our repeat biz tonight.

The chicken pesto soup was fabulous. Serving sizes were large and the food was great?drinks were better!! Fun games and great comedy! Our waitress was one of the best i have had on years! Thank you Brooke!

I really want to like this place but it is suffering from some lack of quality and process. We sat in the bar area at one of the high tops on a Saturday night and even though it was not packed, everything still took a long time. Our server was nice but not attentive, we had to flag her down several times to get refills, our food, the check and the processed payment. Food was a step above Denny?s in that it felt like many of the ingredients were bought pre-done from Costco. We had the Cobb and Caesar salad a

I really tried to like this place as I love all the small businesses opening in Reno. The first time I went it was date night with the fianc? a month and a half ago. We got seated and half the eating area was relatively busy. The drinks were good and we ordered the fried chicken and wagyu burger. Here comes the first issue. The menu states shoe string fries. They are not shoe string fries. The menu states the burger only came with burger cheese and onions. We asked for no onions. The burger came with tomato

Yummy food, very child friendly! Went with 2 toddlers and didn't feel like a burden which was very refreshing. The arcade isn't visible from where we ate which was wonderful at getting the kids to actually eat their food before they went to play. Cant wait to go back!

Place is a bit expensive especially for lunch, I had the regular 8 oz burger, $15.99 but once I added cheese and bacon it shot up to over $20.00. They say they have a wagu burger (which starts out at $20.00) but I tend to not trust that, how would I really know that for sure? I guess, since I spent over $20.00 for a regular burger I should have just ordered the wagu one. Anyway I degress; the burger was fine and tasted good. They only have some sort if battered fries (which I don't care for) so I had their

This place is insane! First off it's huge, and they've pretty much thought of everything when it comes to family fun! Mini bowling, darts, every video game- old and new- you can think of, games that earn prizes, a huge lounge, sitting area, with a gigantic screen TV. A restaurant and bar, a candy shop, etc. etc. And they keep adding more things to do on a regular basis. The food is very good, and a great selection of items to choose from. They host parties, and almost any kind of event you can think of. And

The restaurant was great and we had the best server! We were a little disappointed to find a lot of the arcade games were not operational. Overall, we still had a great time and were very happy that there was even a little corner for our 9 month old to play in.

Honestly don't waste your time. Food was grade school quality with no flavor or care taken. "French dip sandwich" meat was flavorless with heavy mayo on the bread, was not grilled, and bland cheese melted on it. Aujus with it was also bland and watery. Salad was watery. Fried chicken was dry, greasy, and honestly, I'm not sure if they even know what salt is. $70 for food we could have made from a microwave... We live very close and definitely won't be going back again. Only thing we can hope for is that it

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Why are arcade prize games so exciting to play?

Arcade prize games are a thrilling highlight in 2025! Claw machines, skee-ball, and ticket-redemption games like basketball offer a rush of skill and chance, with rewards like plushies, toys, or electronics up for grabs. Modern machines feature vibrant lights, digital scoreboards, and responsive controls, amplifying the fun. The lively arcade atmosphere, with cheering crowds and buzzing energy, makes every win feel epic.
