Shindig Family Entertainment Center

Shindig Family Entertainment Center

Reviews Summary

The reviews show a mixed experience. Many praise the fun activities (bowling, laser tag, arcade) and friendly staff, with several 5-star ratings for family enjoyment. However, recurring complaints include broken arcade games, unavailability of prize redemption during peak hours, and inconsistent staff attitudes. Some found prices high or food disappointing. While cleanliness and atmosphere are often praised, operational issues (equipment failures, poor scheduling) and occasional rudeness significantly impacted lower ratings. Positive experiences highlight great service and entertainment, but management of arcade logistics and staff training need improvement.

OMG this place is horrible, we're in town visiting and decided to stop here for the kiddos, I done spent over 200$ for the kids and they done close the redeem tickets area whereas my kids are not able to cash in their tickets and than we're looking for the manager to get some sort of understanding here she come smelling like a hole carton of cigarettes around all these kids saying that she's not able to open the redeem area. I don't recommend anyone come to this smoke lounge if you don't live close and no g

Shindig is a go-to summer spot for our family?we're there at least once or twice a week! It's a fun, easy place to hang out, bowl, and enjoy quality time. My son bowls on league here, and the staff always creates a welcoming environment. It's a true community staple?no frills, just consistent fun and memories in the making. Grateful to have a place like this right in town!

Super family fun time. We had an excellent bar tender. Lazer tag was major fun also.

My son always enjoys the arcade and laser tag. So we had his 8th (minecraft-themed) birthday at ShinDig. There's a minimum of 10 guests required. The (Helen) room was spacious enough for 10 kids and their parents. Sherry was nice and informative. That provided 10 vanilla cupcakes with green icing and half of the decorations you see in the photos. We went December 28 and the prize shop was closed.

Great find. Didn't know it existed. Cleveland is great at his job and very friendly, as is the other staff. This place has 20 lanes, an arcade, axe throwing, and great food and drinks.

It was terrible. Half of the machines in the arcade were broken and out of order, my nieces and nephews were maybe half an inch away from the laser tag height requirements and weren't allowed to play, we payed for bowling but our lane time closed before we could even finish 1 game, the ?restaurant? area was closed, and the gift shop was a joke. The person working came back with 1 sucker and 2 water guns the size of my finger for 4 kids and said ?this is all I could find?. I really hate our experience was li

Most of the arcade games were off or broken which is unfortunate on a Saturday afternoon. Person in shop was nice but with most games down and no prizes available under 1250 points was upsetting for the for the kids. Some machines are missing the balls to play which you don't know until after the machine has taken your money.

A fun time! Food ordered was fairly slow to come out despite a low crowd. But the staff were generally very helpful and friendly.

We took our son and some of his friends for a night of fun. We did not know what to expect but were extremely pleased with what all they offered and how clean everything was. The service was extremely friendly and helpful. We look forward to coming back.

Most of the games are non functioning. Had a machine malfunction while playing and it took us 30 minutes and me calling the location on my cell to get an attendant. The prize center was supposed to open at 1, then we got told 2 bc the attendant wasn't at work yet. She got there and then refused to tell me the price of the PS5 bc apparently there were zero managers on duty and the PS5 even though on display was not in their system so they couldn't tell anyone how many tickets it was. It was probably an empty

Tried the axe throwing this time and had a blast! The coach was cool as can be and extremely professional! He definitely deserves a raise! In the past I've been here tried their bowling, arcade and laser tag. Their VIP bowling side I highly recommend if it's a weekend so you have a better environment away from the noise and kids! Food is good, beer is cold and the bartender tonight was quick, amazing and knowledgeable!

First time visiting, fun place but not satisfied with the service. Last frame of a 10 frame, an employee cominced to sanitize and collect our 6 balls and my party still had half a pizza and mozzarella sticks on our table which would be our dinner. Made us feel as if we were in the way and being rushed out of the way. As a paying customer for a party of 6, I'm pretty upset.

It's fun. They have a lot of different activities to do. However; their bartenders need some work. You will wait a minute for the drinks. The food was good. Our waitress Shay was super nice. However pretty much everyone else had an attitude. You can tell they aren't accustomed to handling large volume despite being in a huge facility. All of the security personal made sure we knew they closed at 11 which was really uncalled for. Had we not waited an hour for drinks and food we probably would have been done

Not the best arcade we've been too. Several games would take money off the card but not start so you could actually play. Between 2 adults and 2 kids we got over a combined 7500 tickets, but the store they had to redeem your tickets was WACK. It did not open until after 5, that's not so great for families traveling from out of town. Also they didn't have a selection to choose anything from. Never seen an arcade that didn't have prizes the kids could pick from. Definitely the biggest disappointment

I was invited to Shindig by a good friend. It was my first ever visit. I will say my first experience was an amazing one. The staff were friendly and urgent. And my kids and I really enjoyed their pizza. Overall, fun and fulfilling! Thank you Shindig for a great experience!

A wonderful fun experience for the family on a cool Saturday afternoon. We will return again for more family fun. A great time was had by all.

Absolutely would make the drive to come here over Bowlero. The staff is 100% pleasant, friendly, and attentive. Tomi and Audrey did an exceptional job making sure our group was taken care of. The private room was spacious, clean, and you can tell they take pride in their building. From the food, to the laser tag our staff had a wonderful time. I will definitely return with my family to have fun here too!

We had a blast at Shindig for my nephews 12th birthday. We played in the arcade and laser tag. Based off of previous reviews where they said the awards shop wasn't stocked and the games were broken. That's no longer true. All but 1 game worked. Shop stocked and friendly staff. Definitely will go again!

Cramped. Dull. Dim. Very poorly organized. Unfriendly staff. Other alleys that host all-day youth tournaments allow parents to bring in a commuter mug of coffee. This place rudely refuses. A fellow parent was even told he couldn't have an *empty* tumbler of coffee he'd already drank. Nothing positive to share about the experience here.

A lot of the arcade games were not working and nobody was there to be able to give toys for tickets for kiddos. Just not the best arcade experience

Been here a number of times. Owner was so dismissive about giving us a refund bc of his faulty equipment. They were only looking at how long we were their. We paid for 2 lanes n 8 shoes. One lane would never work properly. They kids would bowl once and the lane would never reset. We called numerous employees over and also the owner. When asked to switch lanes they separated our parts instead of placing them on the lane on the other side of us. The new lane also didn't work. Started off by not even been set

Closed ticket redemption center early, so was not able to get our prizes after we spent 50$+ on the arcade. The lady told us we could come back tomorrow to get a prize. They gave to warning on closing early or anything, so I was very disappointed.

Great staff, very helpful. Lots of things to do. An arcade, mini golf, laser tag, bowling, billiards, and axe throwing. The mini golf is great. Decorations and actual obstacles on the holes, instead of just making the holes different shapes. Axe throwing is $25 a person, but you rent the lane for an hour. An hour of throwing axes will tire you out, but it is great fun, and it gives you plenty of time to get the hang of it. Will be going back for sure.

This is a very cool place to go rather family fun time or for a fun date. Cool and very helpful staff. I love the connect 4 game. It's loads of fun!

They get a 1 star rating until they have a response. So we checked the hours open till 10pm. So we drove 60 miles. Arrived 730. Lady was very helpful explaining the options. We were pretty sure we wanted 2 hours of bowling for the 6 of us. She said well buy 1 hour then you could add a hour before time was up. Because if she charged 2 hours and we changed our mind No refund. So we decided that would work. Close to the end of time on first hour we went to add another hour only to be told after 9 they couldn't

I live across the street from the one in essex and the noise is terrible they go till 1+2 am they throw their trash in our dumpster across the street from them which is private property I said sum thing once the guy threatened to punch me out I'm going to call the police every time they go past 11 pm plus there's to many people in there

Booked my daughters 7th birthday with less than a week in advance. Staff was amazing email me options for what we wanted at her party. They decorated the room and had plates and cups ready. Staff definitely makes you feel welcomed. Great family fun. All the kids had a blast bowling and playing games. The PIZZA IS AWESOME! Will absolutely be back!

Very disappointed went to play laser tag and bowl, they told us when we came in that they closed at 11 we got there at 9 we explained we wanted to do both things she said laser tag had been busy so we decided to bowl first for an hour then time to go to laser tag they closed it down and would not open it to play, we had 11 people in our group wanting to play multiple games that's over $200 they missed out on, they never told us that it closed earlier than the business closing time ( because the girl had be

I have been several times and booked 4 parties there, and yet on a recent visit, the staff soooo rude. Sherry and the one old security guard take themselves way too serious. Also, the game prizes are a complete joke. Most games are $1.00 to $4.00. The laser tag is fine, but put put is ok. Basically, the staff was mean to one of the guests bc of the kids' height, to which he was fine. It was just a bunch or hassle towards patrons. Slow night, and they still were trolling their customers and not helpful at a

Not a good set up for kids. Had gone several months back and played laser tag with our then 8 ur old. The next time we came back they said he couldn't play because he was too little. The management were kind of sitting around giving horrible looks to everyone. No toy prizes? just a waste cuz the games are expensive. Next time we are doing chucks cheese and then bowlero? sad because we were so excited about this place in the beginning. Not worth the 45 min drive to be treated so I welcomed. No need for respo

This place gives vibes like the revenue is low and strapped for cash. They authorized my card for the wrong amount. The mini golf sucks. They also yelled at me for bringing a water bottle. Which resulted in me not spending any more money here.

Great time! Awesome atmosphere and a super helpful and friendly staff! 10/10 definitely recommend!

Clean facility and games and fun for the kids. The main reason I'm giving 5 stars is because of the gentleman working the day that we went. He was very friendly and very helpful. I didn't catch his name, but give that man a raise.

I love this place. I usually play pool and arcade but today I wanted to bowl with my mom, my fianc? and my little sister and they put us on a lane with broken bumpers and didn't ask if we were gonna use them or need them. Having a child there you'd assume the bumpers would work. When my little sister and I walked up to the front desk to ask and the lady said that lane 6 was broken and told us that they couldn't move lanes. I'm not a good bowler and I need bumpers to knock down pins. I'm definitely not bowli

Had a great time watching the bowling tournament and hanging with my grandson while he played games in the arcade.

The place was fun overall, but would not recommend going there during the day. The bowling alley and the food was great, it was just the arcade. I got the jackpot twice in a row on the ball drop machine, I go to the ticket counter and pick out an item that is 1800 tickets. These people said ?I can't scan that until 4 because I don't gain level 2 access until 4.? Not convenient for people driving from out of town. The rule is pointless and just does more bad than good. Overall the place was decent.

We went during springbreak. Bowling was fun except the music wasn't kid friendly and the manager said he couldn't change it, which was hard for me to believe. The arcade had a lot of broken games and we couldn't redeem our tickets for prizes unless we came back at 5:00. We were there between 12-3:30 so the kids were bummed!!! In my opinion, if your going to have an arcade with tickets to redeem for prizes you should have someone there so they can be redeemed.

My party here was beyond amazing!! The party host made sure our party was taken care of, I didn't have to do anything!! They had set up the party, very involved with the kids, passed out food and cake, packed up the food, and took all the decorations down. The party went so smooth because of them, highly recommend.

Only the bowling is worth it and its 60 bucks for an hour of bowling that's it!!! Laser tag can only be paid at the station and no one is at the station..... waiting 30 min The ARcade no longer offers prizes for the games which defeats the purpose of the arcade. If this is what it has to offer the kids, I'll pass.

Went for my sons 9th birthday; we both had so much fun! Lots to do to keep entertained, & was more affordable than other bowling/arcades in the area! Employees were extremely helpful & the guy at the desk for laser tag & mini golf area was very courteous & had lots of patience trying to explain to both of us how to play laser tag ??

The food and atmosphere was GREAT! My complaint is this is the second trip (2 hours one way) we've made and the arcade reward store has not been open to redeem prizes for points. I spent over $300 in the arcade last night and left with 4 unhappy boys who didn't get to redeem their points. There were 5 employees standing at the counter. Someone should have been able to open it up!

My grand kids had a great time and so did I. Definitely coming back.

I went there today to spend time with my kids before my yearlong deployment and told them I wanted to play 2 games of bowling. So I paid for 2 games and 3 shoes. We went to the lane and played 5 frames and everything shut off. I asked the staff at the counter what was going on and they told me it's because I had 3 people playing. The said with the 3rd person, the 2 games are cut in half. I explained half of 2 is 1 game and I only played half a game. After not understanding anything they were saying, I asked

Cool place, awful staff. The girl at the front counter was rude and unaccommodating. We were literally the only customers in the place and were made to feel like we were a nuisance. As a business owner the slow times are the most important to engage what little business you have, we were basically pushed out the door. You're lucky my son loves the place because your staff is terrible. Up to me, we would never be back.

It was fun the lanes were good but the service that night was not great , took forever for someone to take our food order.

Great customer service, awesome family atmosphere & delicious food Tommy & Jane at the front desk were great to work with putting together a quick b-day get together

The food is good but it's a bit pricey Nice family atmosphere bowling, laser tag, mini golf, and video gaming. Nice clean restrooms and security is always there. Not too crowded ,friendly staff and nice bar..also I'd drive that 1hr30 mins away just for the wings and loaded fries....I honestly think they have the best wings in the area?? If you like small wings you will love them

My 1st time here and I'll be back. Inexpensive fun for everyone. The mature lady at the front desk was very patient and knowledgeable in explaining everything. The gentleman at the bar was kinda low-key unfriendly until he found out that i was a fellow Veteran. The lady with the dark hair at laser tag was very awesome!!!!

We always have a great time here for birthday parties! The staff is so awesome in my opinion. The bowling and mini golf is fun. The adult drinks are good. The staff help in anyway they can and they work with you on the time because it's hard to be on time with everything with little kids running around having fun. The food is good and they make sure you have enough. Special shout out to Hayden and McKenzie for being apart of Nia?s birthday party tonight for us! & Thank you all at Shindig. We always enjoy

Not nearly as expensive as bowlero, bowling was super fun. But the arcade is the worst rigged one I've ever seen. Dont let your kids near the arcade

The front desk and the bar tender were very helpful and professional. It is a nice place to take the kiddos. There are some issues in the arcade the claw machines are a rip and the games double charged more than twice. The hand sanitizers we're all empty. the the prize redemption on the to few tickets won on spending$200 just at the arcade seems to be another rip. But the bowling was fun and the pizza was good.

Very fun! Much easier and awesome ways to entertain adults and children. We actually got a lot of tickets from the machines. The grab machines are too loose for my liking though. The golf is awesome and the other things they offer. Great value for entertainment

Truly the worst experience at this bowling alley. 0/10 Update to respond to the response on this review: i asked to speak to management while still at shindig, my name and phone number was written down with the understanding that management would be contacting me. I will put my issues here. I took my mother and my grandmother to this facility for Mother?s Day. We frequently visit here. Today when we arrived, we put the bumpers up. As we do every single time we are there. We were approached by a worker who

We went for the first time tonight 3/25/23. Location/parking: off hwy 82 near Super Skate and UpSurge, lots of parking in the front of the building and on the side. Customer Service: Everyone was friendly and professional. Be nice to them and they'll reciprocate! Attractions: Bowling, Arcade Room, Laser Tag, Mini Golf, and Axe Throwing - they also have a bar and serve food. Rating: 5 because overall we had fun, pricing is average compared to other places in our area (it is pricey and when doing multiple thi

Arrived at 8 they close at 11pm on weekends which is unusually early compared to other bowling alleys on the weekend. Anyways my girlfriend and I asked for two hours of bowling and the older lady said they were closing soon and only allowed us to play for an hour. The bowling alley itself is very nice and clean and I did enjoy my one rushed hour of bowling at 8pm. So at 9 our timer ran out and people were still coming in to bowl but we didn't want to ask for another hour since they didn't allow it at 8pm to

Sunday-Thursday 12-10 Friday and Saturday 11-11 Bowling ?? depends on day and time. Laser tag is $8 a person per game. Mini-golf is $8 a person per game/ 8 under is $5. Arcades is up to you. Axe throwing ?? 19yrs older 13yrs with parent's permission signed : $25 a person per hour starts at 5pm. Full Bar and Restaurant as well, amazing food! Amazing staff!

The place was nice and clean. However, we celebrated my grandsons birthday there and was not impressed. We spent over $150 on video games and when it was time for the kids to cash in their tickets. They told us that the ticket booth to redeem your prizes from winning tickets did not open until 4 p.m.. This is totally unacceptable because we drove over 2 hours to get there and had nothing to show for all of the kids winning tickets. Needles to say, we will not be returning. Highly Disappointed and Dissatisfi

This place was AWESOME!! Bring plenty of cash, because the activities will drain you quickly. Laser tag is fun, the mini-putt putt course is fun, and the bowling alley is fantastic. Good food and drinks too! Full bar!

The Bar girl was more worried about giving her number to a man at the bar then helping my cousin get drinks for the kids?? The man at the front desk was so sweet tho. so helpful and took care of us! The arcade was very expensive and my son spent 70 dollars and they had no toys for him to win and the young guy was like come back spend more money to get a bigger gift.??

Definitely recommend to go! Great place, but no bowling is overpriced. Did not even let me finish my game and I was the last bowler on the last leg of the 10th frame. Left our game in the balance. Their putt putt is nice! Employees are nice! Atmoshphere is great family environment! Will definitely be back!

Do NOT go to Shindig! This is the second time I have been here and spent well over $100 and their ticket redemption center is closed. No one there can open it. Ridiculousness!! Shindig Family Entertainment Center! When I posted this on Facebook, there were multiple comments that this has happened to many, many families. Also, the staff was very unapologetic, and I quote, ? This is not Wal-Mart. We can't do everything. I can't unlock the gate, I only work at the front desk,?

Had an amazing time with my man and our kids and extended family. Laser tag was so fun there was 12 of us and it was great competition for kids and adults. Security guys were very interactive with us and one even helped with our pouty girl. We will return for more fun.

Fun time with multiple activities and options. VIP bowling is where it's at!

It is Always clean. I love that there is an equal amount of age ranged staff. The older staff always greet with a warm, unforced smile. The younger staff is eager to "RUN BACK AND FORTH FOR YA" so to speak. It is a great setting for FAMILY. I love it even the more, when security is on duty. THE SHINDIG HAS A LOT TO OFFER!!

Family, fun and drinks!!! Lanes suck on league night, but Jen makes mean margarita...!

Great bowling experience here, so much so that several bowling leagues moved from another location here in town. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable. Game room is separated from bowling lanes so that distractions are minimal and bar is attractive and seems to be set up for good efficiency

I am here with two children who spent $30 EACH on games so they could earn points to win a prize! The man at the front desk said they would have to wait until 5pm to get something because he is the only one here! Are you kidding me? We should have been told this BEFORE they started playing games. THIS IS TERRIBLE TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. These poor children are heart broken. We will NEVER be back and I will be leaving a google review as well as posting about this on Facebook and verbally telling everyone

Very fun! Great for birthdays ??

We went bowling for my wife's birthday, we all had a blast. It was priced fairly for the amount of things you can do. They had a great selection and a very relaxed environment. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Overpriced. Was disappointed with how much the food costs on the menu (basically just nachos and wings) and knew it wouldn't be worth it. Got the food, and it was horrible. The person I came with and I ordered drinks and you couldn't even taste just a tiny bit of alcohol in it. We left barely eating or drinking anything. Plus told us $42 an hour to bowl?? ridiculous. No wonder why it wasn't packed.

Neat place but half of the games in the arcade don't work

Pretty fun but expensive. Waited for 20 mins to pay for mini golf before just grabbing putters and balls and helping ourselves? There's a bar but to get service you have to stand in the line where people order food, so there's no point in sitting there.

This place needs better communication between front desk and the laser/golf desk. Needs a person walking through the mini golf area to discourage kids from being destructive. Needs more than 1 security person on the weekend nights. It has the potential to be a wonderful place for entertainment in Tuscaloosa! Excited for them to work out the kinks, I know it will be a great place!

Pretty sweet idea, the kids loved it. Definitely some talented artist whoever painted it.

The place was clean, spacious , welcoming, and definitely a great mix of activities for all ages at a friendly price point.

I enjoyed myself going for the first time. My kids enjoyed themselves. It is some what pricy but affordable. I will definitely go again. There is plenty to do here just be ready to spend some money

I go to play in the arcade regularly. I used to love going, but the quality has seriously gone down. Most of the games are halfway broken and the prize counter is usually very scarce. I like the place, but it's not as nice as it was when it first opened.

Clean but crowded. They let some people get away with too much and it becomes an issue really quickly. Beyond that, and beyond the very expensive nature, the establishment is quite nice. The armed security could use some upgrades on their gear, though; the nylon, uncle Mike style holsters are just begging to be ripped off in a fight.

Scammy games. Our nephew didn't enjoy playing these. Out of $50.00 he only won 114 tickets and each game cost 1 to 2 dollars per play and only last 1 or 2 minutes. He left there crying because he didn't get a prize. These aren't meant for kids and prizes are so low. We could have went to Dave & Busters.

overall the place is a good place but the staff is horrible. Then they security is wack!!! He followed me & my bf from the time we walked in and literally sat behind us while we bowled.. so unprofessional & bad vibes were given off

Busy, clean place. Patrons tend to be idiots when parking...8 different vehicles took up 2 spots per vehicle so made for a challenge. Might need to hire some lot attendees to assist.

We had a good time bowling & the arcade. It was understaffed tho & the line was long. It's a bit pricey but we will be back sometime! Kids had a blast!

CLINTON WAS THE BEST SERVER EVER!!! We were celebrating our friend?s one year business anniversary and he went above and beyond to make our experience AMAZING!!! He was attentive, kind, FUNNNNN & HANDS DOWN THE BEST SERVER I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!! Whatever you do ask for CLINTON!!!

Very clean facility. Friendly staff and well appointed pro shop. Knowledgeable staff in pro shop, able to assist with most needs. I've not yet eaten there, so will edit and share my thoughts.

Smelt moldy and all of the games were fairly dirty. None of the claw machines had more than like 5 prizes either. Saw the security yelling at a group of African American teens a few times who were just having fun. Multiple employees just sitting around

My family had fun. We played in the arcade area. The only thing they need to improve on is stocking up on their prizes.

Took my grandboys and some of their friends.Loved the atmosphere , employees friendly.. All the kids enjoyed laser tag.Its best to pay for 2 rounds if above 8. The food was great ..gotta try the egg rolls.

Very clean !! Need a place for PARENT'S and GRANDPARENTS to sit outside protected from the weather so they can take a break and have a cigarette. Other than that ( if you don't smoke or young and FULL OF ENERGY) it's great!

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
