Customer Reviews

Right on the main drag, larger than it looks with 3 floors and lots of claw machines, ticket games and arcade games. The prices are super reasonable and the kids always leave with a boat load of stuff. The kids love it and the parents get a good value.

This is a must stop if you're looking for something to do in the area. There are many, many games and they are really fun. The staff were nice and helpful. There is a huge selection of high-quality prizes. Everything is super cheap. Great place to come with family or friends.

The new AC system is awesome! Much more enjoyable in the summer time! Good selection of Arcade games. Fun environment for kids and family. It is right on the water. Walking distance to local shops and restaurants.

(2) adults and no kids and had so much fun! Reminded us of our fun memories on the wildwood boardwalk in NJ! Only downside is claw machines were impossible to win anything!!

People make or break any establishment. The staff that was working here during our visit were less than hospitable. Not welcoming, not helpful. One young man seemed to go out of his way to be rude to patrons. There was no working bathroom. It's a shame. I really like giving people kudos when they're deserved.

There's a big room upstairs for parties! We are having our sons birthday here and there's a nice place upstairs with tables and chairs for parties. Fun little arcade on Thames st. Great for families. The prizes are pretty good too.

Closed essentially 20 minutes early. All we wanted to do was take photo booth pictures. Says it closes at 9pm, got to the doors at 8:42 and they were locked. Sign on the door says ?Doors lock 8:45?.

We were walking by and happened upon this spot. It was great. Nice selection of games and loved the claw machine that guarantees you will win something.

Amazing place for family fun on the island! Arcade games galore! Centrally located on Thames St near numerous restaurants, shops and attractions. Friendly staff. Street parking can be difficult, but worth the wait.

Great way to get the inner kid and competitive juices flowing. Their games and activities for all-ages . They had air hockey, all different types of ticket games, basketball, skiing, racing, in some shooting games. The best part it's right next to an icecream shop .

I've been to at least three other Ryan's amusements and this one is one of the best around. Plenty of well maintained games and right smack dab in the middle of all the action in downtown Newport. Staff is also super friendly and helpful. Always a treat visiting Ryan's!

Fun for all ages if u like games, nothing to over the top, but with kids, you can definitely pass at least 2 hours of time easily.

This is conveniently located near many of Newport?s finest watering holes. The prize selection has the best bang for your buck of any arcade I've ever been to - which is about 3. We only spent an hour there and walked away with a suction cup dart shooter, a parachute man, a bunch of poppers and some sort of tube of goo with dolphins in it. Also there's a roller coaster experience that you don't earn points for but holy guacamole hold onto your butts because it's a helluva ride.

I brought my grandbabies there it was nice and clean. The workers there was very nice and friendly.

Great game place for kids right in the middle of prime waterfront and shopping areas. Easy to charge a card the kids carry around and swipe to play. Electronic tickets are tracked this way and machines state the new balance on the card at every swipe. Spend 20, get 30 in credit. It was perfect to give our kids a break from our "boring parent stuff." Recommended.

Lovely little arcade place with friendly staff. Good to go during off season and midweek when it's not too crowded.

Stopped in for a quick round of games during a bach trip, excellent arcade!

This place is a total ripoff, but I love it. Been coming here since I was a kid. On my last visit here the staff was very friendly and helpful. Be warned you will always spend more money here than you intend bc it's super fun and addictive.

A fun, clean place for the family! We were in Newport for a quick vacation and the weather wasn't amazing. Two nights in a row we found ourselves here. There was a good variety of games, some more affordable than others, and the variety of prizes to choose from was also great. The staff, especially Joel (Joelle?) and his female coworker on Sunday night, were especially awesome. I know it's a thankless hourly job but they were having fun, were kind, and had great customer service skills. I highly recommend c

Very fun for the kids. My toddler had a blast and kept us entertained for several hours. The claw-machine actually works too, not like one of those scam machines you typically run across. We actually were able to win a giant stuffed animal and my daughter loved it.

So many memories here since I was a child. Mainly go when niece and nephew visit these days. It's different then when I was young. Tokens became refill cards a la Dave and. Busters style. I have heard from family that their gift cards are generous and give extra.

We had SO MUCH FUN!! There's a good selection of games, really fun prizes, and the counter staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, and patient (it took us a little bit to choose all our prizes ??). The prizes were of decent quality too, not just plastic stuff and cheap candy. And for grown-ups, you can pop into Benjamin's next door for a beer break between games!

Kids (and parents) had so much fun! Their claw machines actually give you a chance to win (unlike in other places where it's obviously rigged). And ticket prize choices are nice too. Plenty of fun for the whole family!

Anybody that's been to an arcade lately knows it's not the same, lol. Everything is a claw grab and all about the points, not a ton of games these days but I will give it to the Ryan family amusements arcade as they are a staple in Newport harbor. I have been going there since I was a kid and love to bring my kids every time I'm visiting. Newport. Yes, you'll spend your 20 or 40 or more dollars and walk out with some toys for your kids that are worth half that, lol. It's the experience and as arcades go thi

So much fun!!! Love this place. ?? gotta try the VR ride. Crazy good.

Wonderfully fun even for adults (later in the evening, when there are fewer kids). Geared towards children but if you don't mind a busy place and little personal space the games are great and its a fun throwback experience. No prizes for adults though.

For $20 you get two hours of unlimited play and 500 tickets for prizes (but you can't play any claw games or win more tickets and those are ALOT of the games). It is a very loud and very crowded place but my son loved it!

My kids loves arcades and I can't stand them, but this is the best one we have ever been too. Reasonably price, really good variety of games, and decent prizes. While wife shopped at shops nearby, we always had good time playing here.

Great place to spend time on a rainy day - and with kids (even adults love it too). I know my mom and I challenge each other to ski-ball competitions every time we go. :-) I bumped into Giada De Laurentiis here in 2015! A fun place to spend 30 minutes or a couple hours.

Perfect break for our girls! Close to Bannister and Bowen Wharfs, good variety of arcade / sports games, clean, everything was working and well-maintained. My 13- and 15-year old daughters enjoyed themselves. Got two cards for them, paid $20 onto each card (total of $40), and each card got an additional bonus of $8 each.

We always make a point to spend time at Ryan's when in Newport. We travel with our 14 and 5 year old children. It's a ton of fun for all of us. It's also a great place to hang out if the weather isn't cooperating.

Always a great time here! Good selection of games in good condition. The clerks are cool, and there's always fun prizes. My gf and I come here every year ??

My kids lovvvve this place. It's a nice get away for a few hours and we all have fun.

Great unlimited play for 2 hour option ($20 per card). Small facility, but well run and wasn't crowded when we were there. Our family had a great time!

Been stopping by for years, a nice excursion in Newport, play a few games, have fun, clean inside.

This place is just ok. They have a few (like fewer than 10) actual games and mostly claw machines/things where you try to "win" tickets. They're all a HUGE rip off! My son had a huggy wuggy toy in the claw 4 different times and each time the thing jerked so hard it dropped it! I also witnessed 2 other families need to ask for the items they technically won but the machines didn't dispense. What a scam!

Something fun for the kids to do especially on a rainy day. The unlimited pass is worth it, otherwise you might end up spending quite a lot.

This a nice arcade to visit while in Newport. Reasonably priced with decent ticket prizes for the kids. I loaded about $40 on a card and played with my daughter for about an hour. Not bad. You may need to find parking at the end of Long Wharf near stadium for $10.

Great Nostalgic place for kids of all ages. Love that they kept this place alive for dreams to continue to be lived out for kids of all ages. My wife told me stories tonight of when she was a little girl and she is now 35. She said it even still had the same smell. Great place. Keep it alive for all future generations! Thanks Ryan Family Amusements!!

Lots of fun affordable games and good prizes! Favorite game was the cool piano rhythm game, great ticket opportunity for musicians and musical people. Also everything is handled on a special arcade card, including tokens and tickets, which is extra cool.

25$ for two hours of unlimited games cant go wrong with that. Good way to kill a few hours during a rainy day.

I'm basing my negative review on the lack of real games here. I visited after being away a long while, and had told my son about this fantastic arcade I spent much of my youth at. There are a few games, but 95% of the machines are what I like to call "legalized toddler gambling" in which you pay money only to win "tickets" to be cashed in for lame prizes. I guess this must be the popular trend these days. If that's what you're after, it's great. It's not for me.

Came here with our family while we were visiting Newport. It was the highlight of the trip for my teens and even some of the adults ?? The owners seemed very kind and patient.

Great prices, great games and great prizes. My 8 and 10 year old boys declared it's the best arcade they've ever been to. I don't disagree, the adults had fun too!!

We visit everytime we are in Newport, which is once or twice a year. Our son loves this arcade and some how he always walks away with a bunch of prizes. It's not a huge place, but just big enough for kids to have fun for a little while

I've been coming here 31 years, which is my entire life. I obviously don't get the enjoyment I did as a kid but don't remember it being as rundown as I feel like it is now. It feels more barren and beat up than it used to be. Games seem more sparse, walls could use paint. Nonetheless, it's an arcade. Overpriced games that are still fun for an hour.

One of the best places in Newport and one of the coolest arcades I've been to too! Everyone there is super nice, the games are all fun, and you can get some insanely cool stuff for prizes. My favorite memory from my trip to Newport wasn't even the mansions, it was getting enough tickets to get me and my friends some amazing plushies that we still treasure today. I even managed to win from the crane machine as well, something I've never been successful at anywhere else. Definitely a place you should check ou

Earned 1,000 tickets from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory Coin Pusher

Fun for the family! We love Ryans. It has something for everyone from our 4 year old to mom and dad too. Its not a huge place but it is packed with games. There is a private party room on the 4th floor, which is where we held our sons 8th birthday party. The staff is always friendly. We try to go off season when its not so busy and parking isnt so tough, they do not have a private parking lot. Whenever we do go its always a fun time!!

Nice arcade to bring the family while in newport. Most games cost $1 to play . Ticket games and arcade shooters, and racing games. And of course the classics like air hockey and skeet ball. All machines seemed newer in appearance and well maintained.

My childhood growing up in Jamestown and exploring Newport and playing video games at Ryan's during the summer. I'm now 40 and this arcade was my go to place for fun. It still brings memories of fun and crazy how it still here. I ended up here on a cold Saturday st paddy's day I was early to the parade and decided to walk down to explore. I ended up seeing that dome and was like heck yeah let's play some games. I was 30min early and they didn't open till 10, I walked across the street to the warm sunshine.

Great place to take the kids.

A fun-for-all ages old-fashioned arcade right in the heart of downtown Newport! My 16 year old son and 5 year old daughter BOTH loved playing the video games, arcade games, and competing for "tickets" to win candy and prizes. I loved the old school games of air hockey, Space Invaders, and Pong, as well as basketball, basketball Connect 4, skee-ball, etc. Hand sanitizer stations throughout and the games are wiped every hour. We will be back every month....it was a blast! Ice cream parlor/choclatier righ

This place is a lot of fun, and the virtual reality machine was an absolute blast!!!

The ladies working we're wonderful but they don't clean after customers. The game that drops coins was opened and rearranged so the pay out would be smaller or none at all. Not cool

Our kids love that place. Everybody is always nice and friendly. It is clean and fun to be there. We'll be back for sure.

Kids loved it. All received allot of tickets. Each kid 10 8 and 5 received quite a few toys and candy. We are acarcade junkies. Definitely worth it

Claw machines that actually let you get a prize. You win enough tickets to get prizes that make you feel like you actually won something. A great spot to spend some time with the kids on a hot afternoon. With great and helpful employees.

Nice little place to kill some time with the kids. People were friendly. Put $20 on a card and you can kill a good 45 minutes and get a little prize for your kid with the tickets you earn.

I love playing games here and it is super fun! I encourage people to take their kids and have a great time.

Came here today for the first time as an out of towner, but i used to come here all the time as a local in various eras in my life. Always loved it, what a piece of nostalogia.

Such a great time here. Games are all great, claw games are actually doable and prices are very good!

Although we had a good time, the place is a total rip off. Each game that only awards one turn. Who can win Space Invaders on one turn (said the curmudgeonly, old man)?!

Love it! Went when I was a teenager! And now take my 5 year old son ! They have upgraded the place and games ! And reasonably priced! Only thing really for kids in Newport!

Love this place, go here everytime I'm in the area. Nice variety of games to play. Whole family has a blast here

bit expensive for a small arcade one game is about $1 and as you know some games last only for a few seconds... spent about $100 in less than an hr very friendly staff and prizes are pretty cool got a hugh hamster doll for about 2000 tickets

Great small and fun family arcade. The bathroom wasn't working so I had to leave with my children to use a bathroom at another store. But other than that we had a great time.

Fun times. I look forward to visiting here every year. Not sure who enjoys it more me or the grandkids. Great staff.

Great Family Fun!! We loved playing games there as a family and our daughter got to pick prizes at the the end to take home too.

Great little arcade, 3 floors worth of games and entertainment. Our 10yr old boy had a blast

Nice small place to have a good time. Prices and prizes were great. Was pretty cool that it's near all the restaurants and galleries too.

This is a wonderful vintage arcade and fun zone run by an awesome local family. You just can't find places like this anymore.

My grandson had a great time, I lost my card to play the games and they were able to cancel it and give me another one, you also can combine points to one card

We had alot of fun here! I had my doubts at first but after we got there it was definitely worth it! Some good cheap fun! ??

Fun place to check out, good for the whole family.

It was a very nice arcade! I won 650 tickets today and won very cool prizes. The staff are very nice, and the games are the best!

Very nice arcade, great coin pushers, and great value!! Twenty dollars took us a long way!

Great place! Loads of fun for all...

Needs to have more space for patrons to actually be able to enjoy the games without being restricted to movement.

Lots of fun, good prices, okay rewards.

Great location, lots of fun games! Too hard to win claw games but staff were pleasant.

Reminds me of yesteryears as a kid. Wonderful selection of games and ticket games. In the back they have some modern classics that are a blast to play.

I love this place! Parking can be tricky but there are tons of games and much more space than it looks like from the outside

Honestly I hate having to use a card to pay at an arcade. Really was kind of a let down going here especially with the weird pricing for the games

Went again with my 2 kids... We never leave disappointed. Staff are friendly and the games are fair!

Kids had a blast here! Very reasonably priced. It was affordable fun for kids of all ages.

Awesome. Great for the kids. Been coming to this arcade since I was a child. ??

Nice place for the kids, kind of pricey but it's in a very high traffic tourist area.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are virtual reality games in arcades worth playing?

Yes, virtual reality (VR) games in arcades are a top attraction in 2025! Titles like Beat Saber and Half-Life: Alyx deliver immersive thrills with cutting-edge headsets, motion tracking, and responsive controllers. High-resolution displays and spatial audio create heart-pounding experiences, from slashing rhythms to battling zombies. Arcades feature multiplayer VR zones and tournaments, fostering lively communities. VR booths are regularly packed, proving their captivating, next-level gameplay makes them a must-try arcade experience.

Why are arcade prize games so exciting to play?

Arcade prize games are a thrilling highlight in 2025! Claw machines, skee-ball, and ticket-redemption games like basketball offer a rush of skill and chance, with rewards like plushies, toys, or electronics up for grabs. Modern machines feature vibrant lights, digital scoreboards, and responsive controls, amplifying the fun. The lively arcade atmosphere, with cheering crowds and buzzing energy, makes every win feel epic.
