A fun place to spend a couple hours! Lots of options to play they even have a whole room for console gaming. It was a good time.
Great variety of classics, as well as some newer games. $15 gets you into this fine establishment and is perfect for family fun or even yourself, and best of all, all games are set to free play, so leave those quarters at home! One of the best arcades here in Virginia by far! I travel occasionally from Buena Vista to play here.
Best Birthday Party place ever!!! I'm not sure if the kids had more fun or the adults ?? Either way it was an amazing experience for all. Aimee was great to work with and made sure everything g was on point for our special day! We got to use the board room because we had such a big group and it was perfect. We got to see the other party room too and what a incredible job they did! 10/10 would recommend for all ages, young or seasoned. Thank you Starcade for fabulous birthday experience!
We had a birthday party for our daughter this past week, and it was perfect! The party room was big, clean, and comfortable (seated 15, but could have easily seated 30). It was super relaxing to let the kids go and have fun in the arcade without worrying about keeping track of everyone. The atmosphere is so fun, and as an adult, it was also fun to play many nostalgic games from my childhood. Everything was in good and working condition, which is quite amazing considering the age of some of the games and how
Great Place. Alot of games throught game history. Fun for everyone. All ypu can play.
What a super fun place to host our staff appreciation get together!! We reserved the whole place for a couple hours to give our staff space to unwind and challenge each other to some good ole fun!! Huge selection of new and classic video games, air hockey, hoop shooting, dance off, etc and a great space with chairs and sofas to take a break and lounge with friends. Thanks Amy and Ben, we (owners and staff of Sweet Donkey Coffee) had a blast for the second year in a row!
Smaller facility than anticipated, some games had a wavy screen display and or didn't work properly? decent place for kids <10. For two adults that barely gamed and just wanted to bring our 12 yr old = $45. Eh probably won't be back.
This is literally the best arcade experience I've ever had. I took my two sons (7, 9) and they had a blast. You pay an entry fee of $15 per person, and then play unlimited games the entire time of your visit. We playing for a solid 2 hours, and the amount of hame-playing we did would have probably cost $200 or more at any other arcade. With a few exceptions every game was in-service, and there were no issues with any of the games that were functional. There's a great variety as well. There are lots of '80s
Great price and lots of fun. We were concerned before going that the low price meant it wouldn't be very nice, I was totally wrong. This place is AWESOME! $15 and unlimited video games. They have a little history and information on most of them too. You can't ask for more!
My daughter and I went and played at the Starcade on Sunday, We had never been there before. We were welcomed by Gabe which was welcoming ,friendly and helpful. We had the best time. All the games or functional and so much fun. We will most definitely be back.
Good for what it's trying to be. I had hoped it Would have a bit more about the history behind the games. It was also very crowded there and I believe the attendants made a mistake letting so many folks in at the same time. Correctly limiting the number of people in at any given time would be beneficial to a better experience.
Excellent Arcade so many fun games and could spend all day playing them, great place to go to have some fun!
We went here as a gift for my sons birthday. It was a great experience - so unique to be able to play the games all the way through. We especially loved the retro game systems in the back. Was a little crowded in the afternoon on a Saturday, but we didn't have any terrible waits.
Awesome place for a Millenial-Boomer like me who grew up in 1990. ?? Arcade games from my childhood, and teenage years, as well as classics before my time & some more modern ones (early 2000's) All of the games are set to free play so you can GIT GUD at some classic arcade games! I visited on a Tuesday and I was surprised to be the only one there until about 30 minutes till closing. Maybe the place is more busy on the weekends? Pac-Man, Mis Pac-Man, DDR, SkiiBall, Guitar Hero Arcade, Arctic Thunder, Rambo
A comprehensive assortment of vintage video arcade games as well as mechanical shooters and extensive console gaming. I would highly recommend a visit.
Great arcade that allows you to pay one price and play for a two hour time slot. Lots of retro games and well worth the money. Free play for any and all games during the time your there Over 50 games to play.
Awesome place! Push to play for one price. Can't wait to go back! I wish I lived closer so I could visit every weekend. I'm not even kidding.
This place is super fun and awesome! It was definitely a walk down memory lane!
Great way to spend an afternoon with the feeling of nostalgia. Located on the 2nd floor of the Square Center building. Good variety of games both old and new as well as arcade style and video game style, all unlimited play with the entrance ticket. Recommend getting the gamer bundle to go in the pinball museum located on the same floor.
This is our second year renting out the Starcade for an employee outing, and honestly, it's becoming a tradition. Big thanks to Aimee, the staff, and the killer vibe they create! Throw in some pizza and dranks, and boom, instant good time!
What a great find! You immediately get a welcoming vibe walking in and are just taken back by the size and variety, maintained with obvious meticulous care and attention, presented in such a clean and inviting environment. There truly is something for everyone, from the ground-breaking games of the early days of video games to the modern virtual reality platforms, it's all here to enjoy at one low "pay-all, come and go as you like" price that takes away the stress of hunting for those next quarters or dol
Big Lick Screen Printing sponsored an event for Star City Breasties on Sunday night. We went to support our breast cancer survivor friends. What a cool retro place to relax and have some old school fun! (It's definitely bigger on the inside!) Once inside Center in the Square, hit the second floor. You pass the Pinball Museum and follow the signs through some meandering hallways, passing a few interesting doors and alcoves. There is a ramp once you get there. There's a very reasonably priced private room fo
We had a great time. Friendly staff. It was a little disappointing that most two players arcade games were out of service, but there were plenty of games to keep all engaged.
This place is a great thing to do if you don't know what to do with your day, went with my dad and it was awesome, I might come again but only because I used all the machines already ??
Awesome place. Wish there were smaller stickers instead of just the bumper stickers. But other than that awesome
Very impressive arcade experience. Visited recently with friends on vacation and this place had games that catered for all of our interests. Arcade machines were functional and visually looked well-kept. Staff were also exceptionally friendly and seemed ready to help at all times. The real star of the show however is the retro room in the back. Not many arcades provide a room full of classic games on classic machines that give off a very unique and authentic 90?s/early 2000?s feel to the place - outstanding
For 13$ you can play video games all day. It was fun. They played great music too. Great family time
Impossible not to love the Starcade! ? Games for everyone, from new fun to nostalgic wonders! One of my favorite places to bring the family ??
Awesome place. $15 for hours of fun. Not so handicap friendly, bathroom is far from playroom. Awesome place though
Nostalgia and a fantastic time all around!
OM GOODNESS!!! I am so super stoked that they have an arcade. I brought two of my 4 grandsons, it brought back excellent memories of my childhood summers at my grandmother's house.
A must visit! Last month my toddler and I were exploring the different floors of the Center in the Square building and we were invited in by Amy who couldn't have been nicer. Can't wait to get a group together to go play games for hours. What a cool place!
This place is so much fun. If anyone says there is nothing to do in Roanoke they haven't looked hard enough. This brings out the child in you. The music and atmosphere are amazing. The staff there is always great . I will recommend every one to come here and let the fun happen.
So awesome! Retro games, new games, Nintendo switch and even some skee ball, had an awesome time will be back ! Update: just went back the other day and even more arcade games. Had a blast and so did the kids!
Took my wife and 26yo daughter here and had a blast! All of our favorites were here including home console games. And your ticket is good all day, so you can leave and come back!
Its not a bad way to spend a dollar. Had a pretty good time and the 2 hours we was there the time just passed by would definitely do it again and would highly recommend.
We had our son?s 7th birthday at the Starcade, and I couldn't have been move impressed. The staff was so helpful and friendly. They all communicated well prior to the events and throughout the event. The facility was clean and well-organized. The conference room for cake time was perfect - the kids loved feeling important in business chairs. Best birthday to date!
So. Much. Fun! We loved playing all the old games. What a blast!!!
What a great time! We brought some friends here from the UK, And they loved the place! Almost to the point we could not get them out of there! The STARCADE and the Pinball Museum are a must when In Roanoke!
My family had so much fun here. So much nostalgia for me. Lots of classic games and plenty selection. And they got the carpet right!
Excellent variety of games. Skee-ball, air hockey, all the games you played growing up. #HeavyGapproved
Me and my girlfriend spent a total of 6 hours here going in and out at our leisure. We managed to beat a couple of the video game arcade games and had a blast playing pinball multi player! Get day spot for gamers !
This is a wonderful experience through and through. There were multiple times I was surprised they had a classic game from my childhood. The staff was friendly and helped me with a few questions. When buying tickets online, it looks like there is a 2 hour limit on how long you can be there. Turns out, that was an old policy during the height of COVID to limit capacity. Fortunately you no longer have to worry about that.
What a treasure! This was the best $12 I've spent in a very long time! All the games are on free play once you've paid so you can just play to your heart's content. Things were clean and staff was very friendly. The selection of games was also amazing. Plenty of variety. Even if they don't have you're favorite they likely have one similar to it. It's a bit hidden in the back of the upper floor of the building it's in. But worth the trek.
The people that run the arcade are the coolest people. Super friendly and thoughtful. I'm Hypoglycemic and the nice lady that runs the counter provided a ginger ale for me and remembered that the next time I visited and she had a soda in the fridge that she generously let me have. You don't meet awesome people like them just anywhere you know? Always a great experience
It is not just pinball machines... Lots of fun!
Great place to have fun at!
I like the history of the older games they have in working order. Not bad for the price, either. Those games are not cheap to upkeep. Kids are hard on games, too. There were a lot of games down when I went.
Great place. My kid loved it. One set price and play all the games you want. People were very nice and friendly. Many different games to choose from. Not over crowded. Amy was awesome. It is a bit hard to find....its on the 2nd floor you have to follow the signs on the floor to find it. Will definitely be back.
It was a little tricky to make it up the ramp to the Starcade in my wheelchair, but they did put in a lift to help with the last set of stairs. Once inside, the aisles are basically all wide enough to get through, and the variety of games was great. Endless play with your ticket made even more difficult games fun to play, and the staff was great. If you're in a manual chair, it's easier to get inside if you bring a friend, but i still recommend it.
A small admission to free play all the arcade games from my youth? Yes please! Did I mention they have DDR! I haven't seen DDR in an arcade in 10 years. I used to spent hundred bucks easy dancing on these per visit. This place is amazing, truly. Thanks for existing.
I recently visited several museums and rate Roanoke?s STARCADE as the most fun. With their expansive, they added new, exciting experiences. And want to be treated like royalty, go to STARCADE, Center in the Square, Roanoke,Va. All ages!!!
The Starcade is very fun! I am a college student and had a blast here. There is a one time fee to get in, but then you can play an unlimited amount of games. Would come again! :)
Good atmosphere. Great place to take the kids when you have them on the weekend. There's also a candy store right below, so you can take the kids and make them think you're the good parent. Four stars instead of five because they didn't play nearly enough Elton John covers (covers preformed by musician Elton John).
Starcade on Roanoke VA. was amazing. It has arcade games from all different times. They are all free to play when you buy the $13 ticket to get in. You can stay from open to close. You can also leave and come back on the same day. If you get a chance I highly recommend this place.
Went there yesterday. My husband and I had a great time. Due to COVID, they can only have a max if 15 people at a time inside the arcade. Do what they are doing is your ticket is good for a 2 hour block of time then they kick you out for cleaning. If you love 80s video games...you will love this place. For us... 2 hours was plenty of time.
This was an extremely fun and pretty exciting adventure. A real trip down memory lane! The "museum" aspect is fulfilled with information above the different arcade games and pinball machines, as to the year that particular game came out, as well as the ongoing updates to the technology of the day. I love playing Skeeball, and there were two games in the Starcade! There was Dance Dance Revolution, a guitar game, basketball shooting, air hockey, driving games, shooting the bad guy adventure games, and so
The place was very hard for my boyfriend and I to find? google maps wasn't very helpful, but once we did find our way, we had so much fun playing games. The atmosphere was very good and the games were well kept and clean. Overall great experience.
My kids and I always have a blast. It's one fee and all games are free all day. So much fun.
One of the coolest places to go in the valley. We don't have alot of fun things to do around here. So everyone should be thankful we have this. It's very nice and alot of fun. I appreciate the nice and fun business that you all are doing a great job with.
We had my sons birthday here and the owner is such an amazing soul! Her staff Elijah and MacKenzie are so amazing as well! From every phone interaction to in person....exceptional!!! The games are so freaking cool, nostalgic and new age combined!!! What could be better?!?! Aimee you are gem!! If you haven't been go nooowww!!!! Lol!
I have frequented the starcade so many times. I adore this place! It is so much fun and they try to keep it fresh and new and it shows! My bf and I frequent the dragons lair game and love it! The value for the starcade can't be beat, I mean 12 bucks and you can play whatever you want?? (minus vr but I don't do vr anyways). Do yourself a favor and visit the starcade!
Went for my birthday this past year for the first time! Will frequent ??So much fun! ????
I loved it! Unlimited games at a great price! Endless choices! Highly recommend and will be returning when back in the area!!
We had a great experience for an 8-yr old's birthday party here! Easy booking and set-up process and games were fun for the kids and adults! Highly recommend!
The Roanoke Starcade is awesome. They have games from the past and the present. I enjoyed myself, along with the others at the birthday party we had today. A flat fee, with no worries about having quarters or such. If you go on a Sunday, the parking is free in the parking garage next door.
Great arcade atmosphere. Very reasonable price for admission. Games are well maintained. Love the downtown Roanoke location.
This place has the only game I'll ever need and that's Tron. They always play the best music especially this tall guy with long hair who looks pretty cool. He plays banger after banger. It's called the Starcade for a reason. 5 stars, easy
Tons of fun and a great price! All the machines are FreePlay so you can keep on playing without having to purchase tokens we will definitely be back!
STARCADE is a wonderful time! Great mix of retro and modern games, as well as a dedication to gaming history!
So many retro games that simply scream "nostalgia", I believe this arcade is more for adults than kids. We grew up on games like NBA Jam, Frogger, Centipede, Guitar Hero, air hockey, skeeball, and the like, so we can appreciate classic arcades for what they were. Cheers to this place for bringing all of this together. Now I just wish we had one closer to home... Something I wish they had available: ice cold beer.
What an amazing way to spend a couple hours!!! For the flat entry ticket fee you can play as many games as you want for as long as you want. Super worth the weirdly long hallway trek to get there.
A great place to burn some time, they have classic hits and more modern favorites. It is absolutely worth the price, and if you do end up going, get the pinball museum with it.
Let me start by saying this is an awesome idea and could be in a great location if it wasnt tucked deep within a building on the second floor. They had signs once you found the start of the path but it feels like they dont want you to find it. The hard-to-find aspect could have been offset if the arcade was actually cool but sadly you pay $11 for unlimited play on a bunch of broken games or a few console games. The space and games are poorly maintained. The only redeeming thing was the friendly service. Go
This place was a blast for my family. Great way to save money avoiding coins and tickets. The staff was friendly and the place was clean. Multiple places to sanitize and wipes available. I highly recommend.
Beyond fun. Even if you weren't / aren't a "gamer", this place is great for people of ALL ages. Definitely family friendly too. (Watch your Ps & Qs while your playing your old favorites lol)
This place is a perfect place to visit on a rainy day. Lots of games including many that bring back memories of visiting arcades in the 80's and 90's along with several newer ones.
Price is on point when you remember how much we spent in arcades as youths. Super game variety. We had a BLAST!!
Decent selection of arcade games. Worth the 11 bucks for all you can play. Set up was in a very tight area that was hot. I ended up sweating during a few of the more active games
This place is a ton of fun! 2 hour time slot is plenty to play all that you want! I highly recommend going if you are interested in games!
I took my grandson and he had a blast. So many games and they all worked properly. He can't wait to go back.
Had lots of good arcade games and by far the best arcade. Especially because it's all free. The seating is comfortable and the games are fun.
Fun stop with a bunch of classic games. Some games have info cards, hence the "museum". Nice to pay one price and play all you want to.
Very nice management. Loads of fun! Kids under 5/6 will need adult assistance to play most games.
Way more fun than I expected. My kids and I didn't want to leave!
Super fun and affordable!
A great interactive museum, and one of the best videogame hangouts and arcades in the Valley. Also a great idea for dates
I love it. My kids love it. This place is a gem with all the best classics. 10/10 would recommend.
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
Absolutely, retro games in arcades remain a thrilling draw in 2025! Classics like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Street Fighter II offer simple yet addictive gameplay, blending nostalgia with timeless challenge. Modern arcade cabinets often feature crisp displays and restored controls, enhancing the experience. These games thrive on quick reflexes and strategy, with vibrant pixel art and iconic soundtracks that spark joy. Arcades host tournaments and leaderboards, fostering a lively community. While modern games dominate, retro titles provide a unique, accessible thrill that keeps arcades buzzing.
