Recbar 812

Recbar 812

Reviews Summary

RecBar is widely praised for its fun, nostalgic atmosphere with a vast selection of arcade games, pinball machines, and family-friendly vibes. The food, especially items like totchos, pretzel bites, and burgers, receives high marks, though some find menu options limited. Service is generally excellent, with attentive staff, though occasional slow service or understaffing is noted. Noise levels can be high, making conversations difficult, and some find token pricing steep for kids. Overall, it’s a beloved spot for games, drinks, and casual dining, with minor critiques on wait times and food temperature.

Place was very busy, lots of people enjoying themselves. Games have very little wait and low cost. Food was very good! We got the house salad and hot wings. Our group had a great time here and was definitely entertained.

We usually bring our kids here to enjoy all of the games. I have noticed that they have added a lot more recently, lots of variety. I'm only rating the food a 4, due to options for food. My wife has yet to find an entree she likes. If you like burgers, then this is a place for you. I only wish they offered fries instead of tater tots only.

Great place! Our waitress Jayme was awesome! Quick to deliver food and drinks! Fun place for retro games!

I'll start with the good. So many games and great service! The value for coins to games is amazing we played for over an hour. The tachos had great flavor but were cold. Our main courses were very average and hardly room temperature. Drinks were good.

Been here 3 times now. Lots of fun! Food is usually good, drinks are delish from what people tell me (I'm not a drinker). Service is iffy, depending on who you get. In my experience, a guy named Cam is the best. If a machine or game does not work they are pretty good about giving you your tokens back. Would definitely recommend and will be going back.

Went here for a date night with my husband. I have been to the 502 location and I will say this location is larger and better decorated. I thought the large movie screen was fantastic as well! The food was decent but it was pretty pricey. Two entrees, an appetizer, and two mixed drinks was about 60 dollars before tip. We will properly opt at eating somewhere else next time. The arcade was extremely fun! They have more games than the 502 location. However, a significant amount of games seemed to be down on o

Zeb and his team do an amazing job! We came from Michigan and googled nearest arcade and it brought us here and it did not disappoint a bit tons of pinball machine, machines and vintage video games. Great time!!! Highly recommend!!

Do not go unless you just want to go to a bar that has a few working pinball machines. Parents let their kids run around the building unattended and a majority of the worthwhile games are almost always broken or they get rid of them fast. This place is lucky there's nearly no other arcades left in the area or else there'd be somewhere better to go. As for the food, I'd recommend the sugar bob-ombs and that's it, everything else they manage to either make it too sweet when it should be salty and vice versa.

Food was good and the games were fun to play despite some being out of order. My problem was with having to sit at the bar to eat and the fact the waitress barely came around to us. When we paid she left with the money and, I'm assuming, wasn't bringing back change even though I asked for it which was rather shady in my opinion. Finally got my change when I got her attention after nearly 10 minutes while she was standing around so make sure and watch yourself when it comes to paying especially at the bar

Had a terrible experience this past Saturday. The place was busy but we were more than willing to be patient. Our table ordered 5 total impossible burgers. 20 min later they came back and said they only had 2 patties. We figured it out by sharing 2 burgers between 2 couples. They gave one of those patties to another person at our table, so we had 1 impossible burger for 4ppl. No other real veggie options on the menu. Our beers were delivered to the wrong table, our table got that tables beers (and they too

No better place to enjoy some old school arcade/pinball while drinking a refreshing cold beer and eating some delicious food. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for a fun evening, especially with friends!

Never ate here before, atmosphere is why you come here. Arcade games from early 90's and beyond! Everything works, place is clean and the draft beer on tap is always changing abundant and perfect temp! Service here is great!

There for a birthday party, games took me back it was nice. Lost a few tokens but I did back then too. Definitely coming back for more games. Nice beer selection. We order food to-go as we had somewhere else to be. Sons cheeseburger sliders were seasoned nicely. Husbands pulled pork tots were good but heavy (to be expected), my spicy chicken sandwich was slightly depressing. I expected the chicken to be tossed in the sauce, not the sauce just poured over it, making it extremely messy and hard to eat. The ch

Couple of machines will eat your tokens but other than that this a really fun place, especially if you like pin ball. Extensive beer selection, great tacos. Kids always have fun too.

It's bar food... everything was tasty except the Burgertime Rolls. They were excessively salty. Large variety of games but 2 machines took my money. Seemed extremely understaffed. Person at front desk has zero personality and was not helpful.

I didn't get any food here since I was only there to visit a cousin who was hosting a birthday party, but I will say it was a neat place! They have two floors of games (a main level and a basement area). There's also a decent-sized eating area with a full menu. Even though "bar" is in the title, it's open to all ages. There are only a couple sections that are closed off for anyone under the age of 21. The environment is geared towards those who enjoy 80's and 90's nostalgia with video game artwork on the

Absolutely DELICIOUS food, creative cocktails, and a relaxed, awesome atmosphere. Like an in indie version Dave & Busters with a much better game selection. Can't wait to go back! Definitely recommend the pretzel bites appetizer, any of the sliders, and the frosted flakes-battered fried chicken.

I keep meaning to email the GM Ms./Mrs. Basham and tell her how great her staff is doing! Our family goes often but we had a special banquet for our HS team and the kitchen knocked it out of the park!!! Somehow that kitchen had that HUGE order out at the same time.

Had a great time with friends and family. The recbar is a great place to play various arcade games. The customer service and waitress was very friendly. The Napoleon tater tots we ordered had good flavor, however they were cold and most were rock hard / over cooked. This means that they overcooked the tater tots so at some point they were piping hot, but just sat waiting for a long period of time. Aesthetically they are pleasing, but need improvement.

I've been to the Recbar in Jtown and quite enjoyed myself. I decided to take my daughter and one of my nephews to this location and we loved this place. It has a lot more memorabilia to my childhood. Truly a pleasure to come here and enjoy ourselves. Next time we come, we'll have to try the food. I know it smelled good when I was passing peoples tables.

The totchos are too legit! A must when eating here. Environment was so fun. Very kid friendly. The games are a blast and $5 goes a long way! Killer queen is the move if you've got 6-10 people.

A very well thought out establishment with a great touch for detail. Tons of 80?s era decorations and art theme. Pretty much all the classic arcade games were there, and a ton of pinball games which was my wife?s favorite. The food was good, especially the beer cheese pretzel bites. Taylor was an excellent waitress. Very kind and attentive.

Cool arcade style bar. There's a couple bars where you can order a drink and they do have a decent selection of beers on tap. We ordered some beers, hit the ATM for some cash and traded it in for some tokens. I love the design of the inside, very throwback and hits close to my childhood. Tons of games to play including streetfighter and Mario kart, pinball machines and many others. Love the vibe inside and they sell food as well. Great place for families in my opinion or just for a good date night. There i

Love the fact that there is a place to take me back to my younger years where I enjoyed going to the arcade with my friends. Now, I get to take my kids, and they seem to enjoy it.

Loved the food and this Recbar killlls the other one for size and options to play! I had so much fun. Love the QR codes that make the menu accessible and seeing the options of the month. A little short staffed for a weekend night, so the waitress seemed to be doing all the things but she did her best!

Really cool place. The got the atmosphere, nostalgia, and games down pat. They included tons of little touches everywhere to take you back to the 80?s! The only possible complaint I have is the upstairs bar seems a little small, but I didn't realize until later that there's another bar in the basement with way more games.

This was the worse experience I have ever had here. Our food came out cold, server ignored our table for an hour, and we never got refills. Had to go ask the friendly bartender for a pitcher of water just so we had something to drink and had him ring in more of our food. Also had to bring a terrible pork sandwich to our server since he would not come back. We were then told that their pork comes in a bag and sometimes they just don't get good batches. He did take it off the bill, but never apologized for th

Both times I went to the bar. Had to wait until the bar lady to show up, very slow. Beer selection mediocre at best. Food was very overrated. Atmosphere was nonexistent.

When we first visited all of the games were actually a quarter. Flash forward two years and most games are $1.00 with lots of them not working and taking your money. That being said, the food was tasty, a tad bit pricey, but interesting flavors. They also have a full bar and drink specials. It does have lots of TVs for watching sports and other stuff. It's a place I would go again, just be prepared for the price.

I realize the games here are a crowd pleaser and so much fun, but the food here is SO GOOD!! The burgers are amazing and service is always excellent and on point! Everyone must come here at least once just to see for yourself!

Good food. Great service. Fun games. It was fun to just let the kiddos play games while we enjoyed dinner. Then we went and played games together as a family.

BEST DONUTS IN LOUISVILLE. This guy is a Wizard of pastry Perfection! Not only are they cheaper than the big chain donut stores, but they taste a million times better.

Alrighty, we stopped by here for lunch on a Saturday. It's a cool looking place and it's full of games, which consists of some racing games, skee ball, basketball games but mostly of pinball machines. It has a lower level which is where most of the pinball machines are. When we walked in we were seated immediately. The staff seems pretty friendly but we didn't have much interaction with them. Our waitress kept our drinks full and met all of our needs. They don't have any physical menus. There is a QR code

Only reason I'm giving 4 stars is bc of the way they handle large parties. Management should know abt this and hopefully rectify the situation. The wait for a table is already long, but then you have parties of 5 or more holding tables while they play games after they've already eaten. Like, eat and then give your table up to those waiting for a table! You shouldn't be able to hold a table for an hr or longer, leaving all of your belongings there, while you go enjoy the 2 levels of games and others wait and

20 dollars for 3.5 hours of entertainment. The food is amazing and it's both adult and kid friendly. We live this place for fun family nights.

Awesome place, was worried about how Many pinball machines they had, but the found the Lower Level!! Bring CASH, token machines don't take cards. Love the town also, needed a break from downtown Louisville for a couple hours.

We love Recbar, it's a great place to hang out as a family. However tonight the service was terrible. We had to ask for refills and our food was made incorrectly. A table behind us sat dirty for over an hour without being bussed.

This place is the bees knees. Great food, SUPER friendly staff, and awesome games. They ensure patrons wear their face masks and have staff members walking around sanitizing games after people finish playing them. They also have lots of hand sanitizing stations located throughout the building.

Great retro arcade restaurant. Operate via tokens! Bars on both levels. Service was prompt. Pinball machine galore.

Their "totchos" are top notch. The mixed drink specials and always on point too. I keep going back to try more flavors

Cool place with cool vibes! The food was pretty good and they have a good selection of local craft beers. The arcade tokens are reasonably priced and they have lots of games to play newer and retro.

Hands down one of my favorite arcade bars I've been to. There are two floors of games and so many old school pin ball machines . If your In the area Stop in and check it out .

Service was beyond top notch. They had 1 bartender when they opened and she handled our group of 10 like it was nothing. Food was very good and served quickly. Tons and tons of drink options here. The sours were a welcomed surprise. The games were fantastic as well and they had some of the better ones out there like Killer Queen.

They used to have Shuffleboard Tables out in this open space where they could be played. Now they've moved them inside a "bar area" so that kids can't play them. And now, no one is playing them. The bar area is completely empty, except for the bartender who is there to run kids away from them (you have to be 21 in Indiana to even enter a "bar area").

We had great time! Our waitress was phenomenal. The food was so good. Love this place!!

Born in the 70s, child of the 80s, teen of the 90s and this place is my entire youth. Only missing a roller skating rink and pool tables. They have all the classic games and some newer ones. Even threw in modern Rick & Morty decorations. And I highly recommend The Dude's Breakfast, his beverage of choice with Coco Puffs on top.

A lot of kids during the summer before 10pm. But drinks are always great and most games are in working condition

Already posted a huge review!! 10/10 will visit 2 times a months most likely. The staff were easy to talk to, friendly and helpful. The games are in point. The atmosphere is just electric!

First time there, had my son's 10th birthday party. Our waitress was amazing, she was so sweet and polite. Food was amazing the chicken tenders are wonderful, the mac and cheese was wow. Food was even still good after reheating later that night. Great atmosphere for family great staff. Amazing assortment of games. I can't thank RECBAR enough for letting us rent the room and the food. I had an awesome time and will be back. And not just because I have tokens left. Recharge was amazing!!! Thank you again. If

Back to the 80s, literally. The food is strange in my opinion but not necessarily bad. A few arcade and pinball machines were out of order and two Nintendos are downstairs.

Even though it was crazy during harvest homecoming the service was excellent. Good selection of beers but be aware that one menu is draft and the other is for bottles. Bigger than the location in J- town, this location has many nostalgic video games and many newer ones as well.

I enjoy this place a lot. I love to see variety of games. At first, I ordered food. I have fried pickles and they are very delicious. Then I ordered Hawaiian 502 and it wasn't too bad. I would like to have little more sauce in it. The tater tots are good, love the seasoning. Perfect place for hang out with friends

How do I put this into words that you can understand? This place is heaven on Earth for people who enjoyed the arcades and popular culture in the 1980's and early 1990's....and also want to bring it back to enjoy again. I've been wanting a place like this to enjoy for 20 years since the early 2000's when businesses switched over from arcade games to claw machines. RecBar 812 delivers excellent results for people who were born in the middle 1970's into the middle of the 1980's who got to enjoy the experie

We were visiting town and stumbled upon this place. Such a fun find! The food was delicious and reasonably priced (huge burgers!) and the variety of arcade games is unbeatable. From classics like street fighter, frogger, and pacman to newer themed pinball machines, we spent a full evening working our way through a few dollars worth of tokens. Definitely recommend!

It was ok. There wasn't anything that makes me want to come back really badly. The Buffalo wonton starter was the best food we had. My burger was Popeyes-biscuit-dry. The totchos were ok. Beer menu is meh, I've seen better. Mixed drink I ordered was mostly flavoring/no alcohol. Waitress wasn't very friendly & came around only a few times even though it was dead. Overall I can't imagine going back when there are better restaurants to choose from.

It's definitely quirky, and that's what I loved about it. If you were a child of the 80s, you are about to enter your Nirvana. The cuisine is definitely American influenced, but I was really impressed how great it tasted. The presentation was on point and the service was excellent. We didn't drink, but they have a full bar and countless craft beers. We are planning to try the location very soon .

Great food, extra large selection old scool-New school arcade games, largest pinball selection ive ever seen, outer wall garage door opening setup, great corner, downtown type location.

We had a birthday party there for two 10 year olds. They had a blast. The waitress was attentive, friendly, and efficient. The food was tasty as well. A+

The drinks from the bar were great. Old school arcade feel. You get 4 tokens per dollar. All games take tokens except for 1. It takes bills. It tastes the power of your punch. We all love to complete on that! We didn't eat on this visit but the food is great.

I ordered the frosted flakes chicken tenders they looked so good online. I was so excited to try these. They where so burt unfortunately. ??

Wonderful experience! We had a private party and had a great time. Nice food and tons of games to play. Highly recommend enjoying Rec Bar if you can!

We went there for a birthday party (bro in laws 40th) and it was such a fun and amazing time!!! Our waitress, Destiny, was sooooo amazing!!! The games and atmosphere was just amazing!!! Will come back for sure!!!

The food is great, but so is the wait! If you are wanting a table on a weekend night plan for at least 1:20 wait and 20$ to spend on drinks and games during that time. But the food was really good and the whole event eats up most of the night.

The top floor is a little loud but not overbearing. The food and drinks were good, but the drinks will a little higher than I would've liked to pay for. The menu and venue have very witty and nostalgic callbacks. Would have given it five stars but I think the ticket was a little high. All in all an enjoyable experience.

Had an awesome time!! Good food and a great family place. They did really good with social distancing. Game area had sanitary wipes to be able to clean games before playing!!

Never enough employees. Amy was great, but the place isn't prepared for a busy Fri night.

Totchos all day, every day. These things are a meal in itself, and a great bang for the buck. Amazing staff and the fun family atmosphere makes it even better. Pure genuine smiles on everyone's faces.

Wide selection of craft brews, one bar upstairs and one downstairs. We were there for the pinball machines. They have a few upstairs but downstairs is where the majority are located. Pinball games are between 50 cents and a dollar. Giving it 4 stars because unfortunately several pinball games were not working. Very clean. Big are with the tables upstairs for dining and socializing. Cute oak barrel tables and seating downstairs to socialize.

The food is good and is also reasonably priced. My 6yr.old didn't like what she ordered, and they did not hesitate to make it right with a smile! Great place to take the kids!!! The servers are awesome, too!

Lots (seriously, Lots) of arcade games, pinball machines, and even some old consoles. Great atmosphere, decorations, and drinks. Family friendly as well; my only real complaint is that the ambient noise is too loud or the machines are too quiet, either way I couldn't hear the game I was playing very often. Oh, and I got to play Dance Dance Revolution!!

Love the 2nd Recbar location! Same concept as the original in J-town. Fun for all ages!! Recbar 812 is huge and amazing!! Two floors of vintage pinball and arcade machines, ping pong, skeeball, and more. Great selection of bourbons, craft beer and delicious cocktails for the adults. Not just the standard bar food but creatively curated menu items that fits perfectly with the theme. Our group loves the pretzel bites/beer cheese, Porky?s totchos, all of the tacos, breakfast burger, backyard BBQ burger and th

We had a great time here for our kids' birthday party! The food was tasty, the party room is nice and private, and there are a ton of games to choose from! Probably my only complaint is that the downstairs is inconvenient to access for those of us with disabilities. Still, we had a great time, and when one of the games ate our tokens, staff immediately made it right. Highly recommended for a night out with friends or family!

High quality sit down place with plenty of old fashioned arcade games! Their tater-tots are one of a kind and fantastic! That's coming from a french fry person who doesn't usually choose tots. Only thing to note is our particular waiter could have been more attentive to our table. Bring your friends, family, and other folk for good times and fun games!

Really great atmosphere, plenty of games to play. Only complaint I have was waiting almost an hour for a table and then another half hour for our food to come out warm Although the food was warm, it was still amazingly good. The chickenbacranch tatchos were amazing Definitely will be back tho

We had a great time for our son and nieces 5th birthday but only wish we would have known how large the room is so we could have invited more kids.

The Recbar New Albany location is awesome! Huge place, two stories full of video games arcade style and also a ping pong table and another bar on the lower level. Awesome fun hangout Spot bar area and old-school pinball and arcade machines!

Monday night, nice and quiet. They closed at 11, but tried to close at 1030. Becareful and call ahead so they don't close early on you! The beer was expensive. Cool little place over all

I was driving past and the mural on the side of the building caught my eye. Knew I had to swing back and see it up close. Turns out this was the dopest barcade I've ever seen! It's two stories and is kid friendly with a separate socially distanced dining area. I had a blast playing Mario Kart again, and got to participate with something called "Beat the Brewer" with Olivia from Falls City Beer. Never got to do that before! Definitely a must visit place.

Oh man this place is great and the staff is friendly and top-notch. Totally takes me back to my youth with all the classic arcade games and pin ball classics. Solid bar food and cheap drinks will guarantee a fun night out. Gather up your tribe or family and head to RecBar!

Good food and great old school entertainment. I share this place with anyone I know who will be in the area.

This specific recbar was a dope experience from the usual one i visit.they have cool graffiti like art on the walls and a plethora of nostalgic pinball and arcade games.

A lot of pinball. Prices range from 1 token to 4. More 4 token machines than 1s. Makes it a little pricey with kids. Food is okay. Definitely wouldn't get the salad again. Tater tots, boneless wings, and pretzels were good.

This place is a blast. When we go to Louisville we make sure we hit Recbar 812. Just takes you back to your teenage years with all the pinball and video games.

Great food and service. Lots of pinball and arcade games to play with. Interesting place.

So I had heard pretty good things about this place and when a buddy of mine wanted to get together for some food and drinks I suggested this one. I have to say I was pretty disappointed with the experience. The boneless wings were decent, however our main meal both of us got tatchos and both of the orders were barely warm. Getting a refill was also a problem. After the lackluster food performance, we went around to play some of the pinball machines, only to find the two out of the three token machines were

I wish it 21+. Too many kids yelling. The atmosphere was loud and could hardly hear the waitress and my family members talking. Great food & games though. Early on a week day maybe better. Other than that a great place for food and go bonkers on 80's, 90's and vintage pinball machine you grew up on when we were kids. Including Air Hockey table. I enjoy this place, even though the atmosphere is a little loud. I get it. Can't beat the location though, right down in the historic downtown of New Albany. Can't b

This place is a blast from the past and seriously has some 5 star food!! So many fun games here!!!

Good food, totchos and burgers. Fun fact: you can substitute an impossible burger if you're so inclined. Bring quarters, you can spend a LOT of time and money here. Enjoy New Albany, you earned it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
