Concept is great. The food is good. Been two times and the food has not disappointed. The service? Bad to really bad. The first time we went was a weeknight. We were ignored until someone finally went up after 10-15 minutes to ask for menus. The server only had 3ish small tables and still avoided us until then. The next time we went Duckpin Bowling on a weekend. That was great, but we had a large group of 20ish next to us and our waitress (Ana I think) was terrific but being run ragged. She received littl
This recreational bar is so much fun! Bowling, darts, ping pong, simulator golf, football, soccer and Zombie tag ball are all available for groups big and small. The decor is modern and the bar is huge. We had the boneless wings which were ok and the nachos which were loaded with fixings. The darts next to the bar are broken and don't keep score so beware. Also for both dart locations you are forced to dodge the never ending stream of waitresses which was annoying after awhile. It's not their fault just poo
1st time there. Enjoyed the bowling. Appetizers were very good. After the apps and bowling we got ourselves a table and ordered dinner. Dinner was good. Our server was new, and we did take that into account, however, it was not great service at all. We waited 20 minutes for refills and ended up going to the bar to get them ourselves. Overall, I'd go back again because it was really fun. However, next time probably just order some apps and do dinner somewhere else.
Attended a birthday party, and all of the servers were so incredibly nice and helpful. The duckpin bowling was so fun! Highly recommend. Really enjoyed our time and stayed for several hours. Outdoor area was so great, too! I only tried the loaded fries, and they we're very good. We got a shared cocktail for multiple people, and it was an amazing value.
Went to a 70?s birthday party held here. It was my hubby and my first time. Over all it was enjoyable. The party was from 1-4 on a Sunday so it wasn't super crowded. We had a very small area in front of the simulator next to the duck pin bowling. Luckily it was only ten of us for the first 30 mins. The sim was fun but a little glitchy. ( didn't register all our hits) Not a huge deal, it was still fun. After the first hour we had 4 lanes of duck pin bowling reserved. However people on the lanes ran over the
Such a fun place to take the family! We started at the grilled cheese club and made our way to PB & R. The food was amazing, we had no idea there was bowling! A quick lunch turned into hours of family fun. We'll definitely be returning.
Great grilled cheeses, not over filled so they fall apart, just right, and very tasty. The beer selection is good too. The only things were the bartender was our waiter (maybe a short staffing issue) and to use the bathrooms you have to walk through a dart game.
Went out with a group for a celebration. We did duckpin bowling and ar darts. It was a lot of fun. Very loud so not great for conversations but the activities more than made up for it.
We didn't get food, but service was great and the bar is great. They had arcade games and an outdoor area. It fills up fast though. Nice for a drink and walk around downtown crown point
Stopped by and located an amazing gem. The games and atmosphere are next level. Not much on tap, just 6 beers, they have a large selection of bottled beers and drinks.
I read the reviews. Being in the industry I always try to give a place the benefit of the doubt. Trust the bad reviews. We won't be going back. The service was subpar....to put it as kindly as possible. I had two drinks in the 2.5 hours we were there. To get that second one I had to track our server down. They didn't check on us (Lesson: bigger check, bigger tip) No employee seemed to know what was going on. We sat at our lane for 11 minutes after asking 3 people how we could start bowling. After that, 17
Had a great time here. The bowling was great. The simulators were good, but some games didn't seem to register accurately. The server we had was great! Atmosphere was awesome.
We recently hosted the Summit NDE Christmas Party at Public Bar & Rec, and it was absolutely perfect! From the entertainment to the service, food, and overall organization of the night, everything exceeded our expectations. The staff was incredibly accommodating, and the atmosphere was lively and fun, making it the perfect spot for a company event. We couldn't have asked for a better venue to celebrate with our team. Highly recommend this place for any event, big or small!
UPDATE-I was contacted by the manager to follow-up on my feedback/review, which I sincerely appreciate. We will be giving this place another try. Rented a simulator for an hour with a friend. Our waitress came over as soon as our time began and we eached ordered a drink. She returned when we had 10 minutes left, apologetic that she never came to check on us and left the bill for us to close out. We decided to sit at the bar to eat afterwards. We were able to order drinks and food fairly quickly, however o
We went in the early afternoon. There wasn't much of a crowd as of that time but we stayed n had a couple drinks from the summer menu n didn't find one we didn't like. The bartender was a sweet heart n made really good drinks. We were impressed. Thinking next time we will check out the food menu.
Went on a slow night. Played the pins. Had a blast. Neat place. Never been when it's busy though. Visit on a slow night give them business and enjoy the fun activities there. I don't drink and was the designated driver. The first time a bartender has ever made fun non alcohol drinks for me. Maybe because they had the time but it was a great experience. Probably important to mention that our group did not eat so I can't have an opinion there. Thank you.
Original review (1-7-24) Cool (but trendy) concept, awful service. When you take over a place that was as good as Diamond Jim's was, your experience has to be so great that it makes you forget about the predecessor. Unfortunately, they did the very opposite. Took us an hour for us to get our drinks. Half the drinks we ordered ended up not being available. The server even brought back the wrong credit card to a member of our party. Update (2-1-25) Decided to give it one more try. This time, we tried the
Didn't order food but the drinks were great and the service was spectacular. Cool place for the kids with the baseball simulator.
Really a cool place. They have skee ball bowling, ping pong, pop a shot, golf Sims and a bunch of video games, and they serve beer.
We had a reservation from 6-8pm for one of the simulators. The group before us ran over there time which was fine but we were brought to our bay and the server didn't wipe down the table before sitting us. I had to ask the server to clean off the larger table behind the bay so we could put our food and drinks there. The simulator lagged a lot and didn't work as we expected it to but we made due and had fun playing the games. Food had good taste but not worth the prices. I didn't like how our credit card was
Highly recommend! Major improvement from the previous establishment. The food is outstanding, the service is welcoming, the place is clean, and there's so much to do! Great weekly activities as well!
I really like coming here for all different kinds of things. I bring my kids to hang out. I've been here out with friends etc. the food is pretty good the staff is always nice and there's always something to do. Love all the games! There's nothing quite like it around here. They have something pretty great.
I was back in NWI visiting family (10 ppl) and this place turned out to be a great spot for that. It has plenty of space and nice tables and high tops. The service was really good! I apologize I don't remember our server's name but she was good. The decor, layout and feel was all on point, nothing needlessly over the top. Now time for the food review. We had a couple of apps, simple mozz sticks, Mac and cheese bites and Bosco sticks. All just ok, Mac bites were the best. They also let you order from the gri
A friend of mine drove 6 hours back to his hometown of Crown Point, and the plan was to meet up here. However, he was turned away because of his out-of-state ID and was unaware he needed to bring his birth certificate to a bar. Apparently we missed the new tend of carrying your birth certificate in your back pocket. This place used to be a great spot to hang out and have a drink or two, but after last time, we won't be returning. I have a feeling we won't be the only group of customers Public will be losing
Me and my coworker went here for lunch and it was delicious, The atmosphere, bartenders and owner are very friendly. Highly recommend to come out here!
Such a great place! We had an evening birthday party there for my husband. We had the simulator in the back and bowling lane #1. It was fabulous, fun and our server, Alyssa was awesome. The prices are perfect too. Thank you for making us feel welcome! Highly recommend!
Fun place to watch and play sports. A little too loud while eating dinner at 7 pm. The chicken nuggets were no different than McDonald's..same size, same amount, twice the cost. .. lol. Overall, a good place to have a few beers and watch sports on huge wall screens or play simulator.
Did the mini bowling and had drinks and appetizers. It was a Thursday and was not very busy. Had a lot of fun!
THIS PLACE IS AWESOME! We had a DADDY DAUGHTER DATE NIGHT here as a group & it was AMAZING! The kids absolutely loved it! The staff was friendly & attentive, food was delicious, games were a blast! Can't wait to go back again! Great for kiddos before 9pm, & great for adults as well! There's something for everyone! Crown Point has a gem! Love Public Rec!
Had my daughter?s 1st birthday party here and it was such a wonderful party! The kids (and adults!) loved the bowling and simulator, the food was amazing, and the staff was so attentive and nice making sure everyone had what they needed/wanted. I will absolutely have more parties here! We had a great time!
Came here for a private event and it was a great time loved the small bowling and VR gaming. Food was great, will be back.
Great atmosphere! Games are on point. Had a group of 20, service could have been better this trip. Past trips were perfect.
Review based on experiences from the handful of times I've tried to love this place. Food is overpriced and mediocre at best. Food comes out ice cold at times. Wings are good, but it's hit or miss. Nachos haven't disappointed yet. Drink prices vary depending who you ask. Drinks are small & extremely watered down. I slurped down 4 vodka mixed drinks on an empty stomach and didn't even catch a buzz. Also, it's a hassle to get your allotted simulator time when the people ahead of you go over. There needs to be
Great place to have fun with family and friends! Love the string bowling and the different games. Good place for fun and drinks. However, this place needs to do a better job with their appetizers and food. Our group wasn't impressed.
I actually was looking to go to a taproom a block over but it wasn't family friendly so we settled on this place. Staff was attentive and friendly. Come here to relax and grab a drink and hang with friends and have a good time with great conversation. Food was decent for bar food (that's what it is) but we enjoyed ourselves and would for sure be back for music bingo or to use the golf simulator or to play some ping pong or classic arcade. Service and drinks are top notch and food can only get better but
Came here last night and ordered Mac and cheese with steak, and boneless chicken wings. The ?Mac and cheese with steak? came out and was literally cheeseburger hamburger helper. Everyone in my group was laughing saying they couldn't believe they just served hamburger helper and charged $14 for it. And the wings are Tyson?s Any?tizers lol just save your money and go to Stracks.
This is a great bar. Family friendly and a lot of things to keep the kids busy. Games, video games, table tennis, and shuffle board. Food was outstanding for me. I got the Capo. Highly recommend. Waitresses/bar tenders were very attentive and super nice. I'm definitely coming back. If you're looking for something different and you have kids! This place will satisfy both you and the family! Great job!
Super cool new place in downtown Crown Point. Nice to have a spot to play games and have fun without just the regular bar scene! Drinks were top notch as well! Good place to host parties.
Went to duckpin bowling, reserved it at 7 for 2 people and there were way too many people in the way of the lanes. No one approached me and I waited for 20 minutes for someone to stop and let me talk to them for 2 minutes. She told me that I had to tell them to move and I asked for a refund, which I think they gave me- not sure, my card was not charged yet but they didn't state that I was getting a refund. The guy bartender was nice though that served us a drink. The duckpin bowling was just too crowded and
Was here for a catered sort of thing, so only tasted the Mac and Cheese and boneless wings, both were perfect for the group. Atmosphere was a lot of fun and my daughter and I enjoyed the virtual simulation games a bunch! Must check out of you're in the area.
The food and drinks were incredible, love that you now have the option to bowl. Service was great and very quick. Kelsey was awesome, and made sure we had everything we needed. Will be back.
We had a party of six, and granted, we had to wait a while for the last two members of our party to show up, so we ordered drinks for ourselves while we waited. They arrived, but then it felt like forever that we were waiting on our waitress to come back to our table, watching as she attended to several others. We finally placed our orders, and again, it felt like it took another half hour for the food to arrive. In the meantime, we tried to hold conversation, but between the music, the people using the sim
Great games to play friends & family. Better during the day & not as buzy!
I would highly recommend this bar if you're looking for a good time! The atmosphere is fantastic and they always play great music. Although the bar is great there are some minor inconveniences and annoyances when it comes to this bar. Firstly the prices for drinks are extremely expensive compared to other bars around the area. Secondly the way the place is setup is extremely tight when there are a lot of people. The DJ is right in the middle of everything and if you want to go up to get a drink you have to
Our bartender Autumn was so welcoming when our group came in this week, she was very attentive and remembered our orders every time we came back up to the bar. The new food on the menu was really a step up from before, highly recommend!!
We wanted to love this place but they charge for soda refills. Thirsty kids will break the bank here. ?? I see your response but at $2.95 per soda to start and $1.25 for refills it's too expensive to have an evening with the kids. We only have 2 kids. If you have a gaggle of them be prepared to open the wallet.
Great experience, Madi was an awesome server very attentive, food was delicious and drinks were good. It was great we were able to bring family from out of town and keep both kids and adults entertained. Supreme nachos were ?? amazing.
We had a pretty positive experience for our first time in. The hostess was very friendly and our server was great. It was a nice atmosphere with TVs for sports and options to play darts and other games. I would recommend beefing up the beer menu and bringing in more craft beer selections. The food is basic pub food but prepared well
Was waiting in line to meet up with my friends that were inside already. Suddenly my friend is being forcefully removed because he asked the security guard (who didn't identify himself as a security guard) why he was cutting him in line for the restroom. The security guard then proceeded to grab my friend by the collar for asking him who he was and began pushing him towards the exit. When he respectfully continued to ask what the issue was he was then sucker punched by the security guard for no reason. This
We enjoyed our evening here. Got some grilled cheese sandwiches which were pretty good. Not the best I've ever had but not bad. The service was really good and we loved playing the games in the back. We probably played 10 games of ping pong and it's free to play which was nice.
PB&R was a blast! Located a short walk from Crown Point Square, everything from the food to the drinks to the games is top notch. I had a frosty cold pint of 18th street IPA to go with some delicious boneless buffalo wings appetizer. My entree was a meatball sub deconstructed into a grilled cheese called ?The Capo?. Their grilled cheese menu is called Cheese Almighty which can be ordered online for pick up. The sports bar has some of the best games and seating layout for fun social gatherings. At PB&R, yo
Awesome family fun! Duckpin bowling is the best!
They have an excellent drink and food menu. We had numerous mixed drinks and cocktails to share were fire. The boneless wings were very good. The simulators were awesome my party had a blast. The staff was very friendly and very helpful and on time with drink and food orders.
Manager with receding hair line was very rude. Learn how to talk to people and provide good guest service. If I could give this zero stars I would. Save your money!!
Came on a slow night but ALYSSA the bartender made our night amazing! She was so nice, attentive, and sweet! The entire staff was but she made an impression! Hoping to be back on a busier night but staff is great!
Free Music Bingo was a blast! I give Music Bingo 5 stars. I won a grilled cheese sandwich which was delicious and would have cost $12. I give the grilled cheese 4 stars. I gave the waitress the coupon and asked for the sandwich, and after 20 minutes, it still had not arrived. I had to ask about it 4 times, and the last time i asked, the waiteess said, "Oh, you still want that?" A friend said they want you to use it on your next visit. Why didn't the waitress say that? Instead I had to wait 1 hour to get t
Excellent golf simulators that are the latest technology. Chipping and putting were more realistic than others I have played. Great bar and good food. Good service crew with manager being very friendly helping set up the golf monitor for my round taking all the time needed to get me going. High5 to this fun place on the CP Square.
Public is a great spot to hang! Lots of activities to keep you moving and having fun. Great service, good food, kid-friendly during the day, experienced bartenders, and security on the weekends focused on keeping out the problems to ensure everyone has a great night on the square. Check out Public for your next event or night out!
Was waiting in a long line for the restroom when an a random person completely cuts the line and when I was verbally upset a person cuts in front of everyone for the restroom and out of no where this person takes my back and starts pushing me out, turns out it was unmarked security guard. This person continues to aggressively handle me while I question why he was doing it. Then he proceeded to sucker punch me and knock my glasses off and would not let me collect my belongings even though I already said I wo
This place is weird. Apparently you need to bring a birth certificate and passport to enter this bar if you have an out of state ID regardless of if you're of age and if the ID is valid and legal, but they let in underage kids with fake Indiana IDs no questions asked. And they only cherry pick this rule in the summer time.
?No out of state IDs? we couldn't even get in. I've been to bars in all 50 states and 2 other countries with no issue, and this bar right across the IL border wants to be discriminatory? Luckily there is a really cool speakeasy right next door with way better vibes. Check that out and skip this place.
Small, but the children looked like they were having fun... when they got a chance to play! More staff/servers are definitely needed. Our's had the entire, packed establishment and rocked it. Food wasn't the best. Pretty tasteless? Actually, now I know to try a different one when I come back! ??
Overpriced and the simulators don't work very well
Very clean place including the bathroom. The decor and furniture is very nice. I did not visit the bar as I went for the golf simulator. Very spacious golf sim with ample room to fully swing your driver with no worries about hitting a wall. The tech (distance and direction) seemed accurate and represents what I see on the course. Kids are allowed (till 9pm I think) and after they had enough of golf they enjoyed the other games the sim has. Will be visiting frequently thur the cold weather season.
The server was great so that's why I even gave a star. The Mac n cheese was luke warm and tasted like cardboard. The grilled cheese shouldn't even be called grilled because the cheese wasn't even melted, the sausage was thrown on it like a after thought. The Cajun chips had good flavor but were cold. The tap water in the bathroom is colder then the beer from the bar tap. I felt like I was over paying for a half-a** attempt of someones microwaved leftovers. Get rid of the grilled cheese place, your head chef
This place sucks kids literally playing pin pong and balls going everywhere while we are trying to eat it's the most annoying thing ever if I could it would be zero stars!
I got a grilled cheese which was a little over priced in my opinion but at least it tasted good. We had a mix up in my group but the manager took care of it and apologized and even gave the table all 8 of us a shot of fireball ( the lady who's order got messed up said it jokingly and he did it). The waitress was very friendly.
Awesome place. But some places aren't good for toddlers. Currently here and activity watching them rip the feet only soccer game. Foosball is missing pieces off the handles. Alcohol plus toddlers isn't working for such a great idea. Excellent service for having kids running and screaming through the small walkways.
I would give negative stars if I could. Ordered a Triple Crown grilled cheese TO GO at around 4:40pm. After 45 minutes of not receiving what I ordered, money was offered to be taken off and I was told that the sandwich was coming out. Ten minutes after being told the sandwich was coming out, the sandwich was STILL NOT READY. Then got told that ?it's normal for us to have 30 minute ticket times.? FOR ONE SANDWICH?? 30 minute ticket times for 1 sandwich? I could?ve made 15 sandwiches by the time it took them
I have been here. This place was a great idea but diamond Jim?s was way better! The food was absolutely horrendous. I would rather go to 711 to get my wings. Not a good environment for underage children.
Had a bad experience. Ask for drinks for my friends and I. The server completely ignored us. She acted like she did not have time for us. We waited over thirty minutes without acknowledgement and service. Nice establishment but poor service. Probably will not be back.
Staff is amazing, gave us a free hour of the new darts. Good food and amazing service!! Awesome family place as well!!
Didn't have any food available, chip and salsa were Tostitos chips and jarred salsa. 6$ Would of paid for the whole bag of chips and the jar so hats off to the 300% gain? Suppose to be alittle classy and the food disappointed the experience. No boneless wings but had chicken tenders but they were boneless wings? makes sense. The server was great though
I wish zero stars was an option! I liked this place alot, but after witnessing my friends get assaulted by security (punching one and choking a woman) and the establishment not doing anything. I will not go back until the they fire that security. People want to go out to have a good time and I thought public's was going to change that in crown point. I guess not
Good start to a new place! Drinks are good and service is good. Only issues we ran into were broken bathrooms- we were gonna stay for awhile but ended up cashing out early to go somewhere else that had a working restroom. Will be back.
Nice addition to the town! Great place to hang out with friends
Very enjoyable lunch with a good friend. Food, service were great & hope to get there again very soon!
Security here is dangerously aggressive. Was waiting in line and one of the guards cut the front of the line. When the guy upfront asked why they cut in line, he grabbed him and tried to kick him out. FOR WAITING IN LINE! When they passed me, I heard him ask why he was getting kicked out and the security guy PUNCHED HIM IN THE FACE WITH NO WARNING. It ended up with the same security guy CHOKING HIS FEMALE FRIEND for just trying to see what was happening. Caused a huge fight in the bar. Found out management
The food was delicious, but unfortunately that's overshadowed by the terrible service. The bartender was par at best. Offering up an attitude with your drink.
Wanted to check the place out. Food was good but that was it. Unfortunately won't go back.
Awesome place and friendly staff, great service
Fantastic experience all around. Alexa was a fabulous server and very attentive to our big group! Food, games, and atmosphere get two thumbs up!
Went to a private event that reserved the entire place. The drinks were good. The food was average. They had a hard time keeping food available on the buffet table.
Such a neat place! We didn't get any food, but the drinks were tasty and our bartender was super nice. We had a lot of fun!
Phenomenal food and atmosphere. Great staff. Wonderful bloody mary spread on Sundays!!!!
Bar is completely packed every weekend, but I'm not sure why. Simulators don't track very well. Lots of broken glasses the night i was there. Drinks are a bit expensive.
I don't know much about this bar, but I do know as a man of color I found it ?interesting? that I had to wait 5 minutes after a white patron came in and was served before me (15 minutes total) before I was served. Like I said, I don't know much about this new bar, but I do know their customer service leaves Much to be desired.
Huge place! Golf simulators, darts and plenty of tables. Service at bar was pretty good for the crowd. Day crowd mixed and nights are for the young folks!
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
