Popolo's Games

Popolo's Games

Reviews Summary

Most reviews praise the store for its friendly staff, great selection of games (including MTG, Pokémon, and D&D), and welcoming atmosphere. Many highlight good prices and helpful service, with some calling it a perfect hangout spot. However, several negative reviews cite inconsistent hours, rude staff, high prices (especially for Pokémon cards), and poor trade-in offers. Mixed feedback notes occasional unprofessionalism, but overall, it’s seen as a community hub for gamers despite some drawbacks.

Customer Reviews

Stopped by while on vacation. It's great to see friendly, local game shops. Good stock, friendly owner and shop cat. Will be coming back next time through Taos

Amazing store that has just a little bit of everything. Only place in Taos for an LGS and anything closer is all the way in Santa Fe or driving to Alamosa. Just a great place to check out if you like TCG'S, Video games, and collectibles.

?He need'$ to bring is his / her A Game Yet??

This place is awesome! Stopped in just to look ended up finding the coolest mega man art ever and a board game as well. The owner was really cool and friendly. Had an awesome environment to hang out and play games. I will definitely make a trip back!

Although I didn't find what I was looking for, this place was pretty obviously a chill spot for tabletop and video gaming. Large selection of used video games from Atari to modern, priced moderately. Board game selection was pretty minimal (which is what I went in for) and everything was at or above MSRP which made it a miss for me, although I understand it. Catan, as always, with a shelf or two of other modern titles but nothing I was personally looking for. D&D was represented as well. Large lean towards

Showed up at closing, and the gracious owner let me look over everything anyways! It's a place full of treasures, with TCG culture and a company cat. Would recommend.

Spent $2k in games in my past 4 visits to town. in town on business, went to buy another $200 in games and the clerk, while he is playing computer games changes the prices at the register. Then when I declined to purchase, says ?thanks for making me dig through the games?. This guy is the worst. I would be closed down if I did my business this way. Good luck, wish the owner was working but know he has health issues. Unfortunate. Lost retro gamer customer.

I went in for looking for some D&D supplies, and I was surprised by what an extensive collection was available. Jake was super helpful and knowledgeable and I got everything I needed. I will definitely be shopping here in the future. Excellent customer service!

All right so this place has good prices. Possibly The cheapest. But the one thing I have wrong with this guy is that he is a d head! He thinks he can rip people of because they are kids. I tried to sell a mega charizard to him and he tried to take it for $5. Then this adult walks in a couple days after and he offers $25. Sniff your dogs but popolos

Great store! Pokemon, Magic cards, board games and video games. My kids loved it. Great place to pick up some cards to play when weather is to rough even for skiing.

Fantastic locally-owned gaming shop. Table top, card, video games. Used video game consoles and games. Gaming tables for live gatherings. Great people, fun hang.

Consistently one of the worst game shops i have ever been to. Wanna do an exchange or maybe sell an item for cash? Too bad, if Jake's not there some rude as hell cashier will turn you down with a "too bad so sad" attitude. On another note theyre too lazy to turn the OPEN sign off if there's a magic tournament. And to top it off despite claiming to be "great spot to hang out" youre not allowed to lounge AT ALL if its a day for MTG and youre not playing.

This was bad. I came to buy a booster box, but they only sold them buy the pack! I was not willing to fork over $135. If you want pokemon cards, then this is not a good place to go.

Good stock of collectible card games, board games, and video games.

If you want Pok?mon this is the place to go. Its super epic and the cashier was nice, so overall highly recommend.

If you want to pay high prices this is the place for you, but you're better off on eBay as they seem to set their prices at about 2x what it averages on eBay

I walked into the store, and saw a cute dog with a skirt on. I thought,"Oh, this place can't be bad," but I was terribly mistaken. At first it was fine, the guy at the register offered to answer questions, and we asked where the Nintendo DS games were. He promptly pointed to them, and we walked over to the glass display. I had been traveling with my friend, and we were looking for Pok?mon Diamond and Pearl, so we could play together. As we searched through his stock, we only found Pok?mon Diamond. We thoug

Just moved into town and absolutely love this place! The dude that runs it is super chill and I love their dog dizzy! Honestly it's a really laid-back fun place to be

Good service, cool stuff. There are tons of games, consoles, and all types of collectibles and cards.

They are never open when their website says they are they are rude to their customers and whenever you try to do business with them they screw you they won't offer you decent prices for your cards or gameness oreven sell them to you at decent prices I would not recommend these people at all the only reason they get a two is they were professional

Great selection of cool board games and video games from your childhood to today's hits. Buy as and sell used and a must for Magic and Pokemon players and collectors!

This guy ripped me off because im a kid and he thinks I dont know what the prices are for trading I sold him 15 ex's and he gave me $40 instore credit I had 2 mega's 1 secret rare and the rest was regular ex's I thought he was legit but I found out he's a d bag

Laid back place with good prices. Had everything I wanted and the guy is cool. Video games and accessories for Xbox, Wii, and PlayStation. Looks like they play magic there too.

They were super helpful and the place had a great atmosphere. Great selection of MTG cards and accessories.

I can't wait to go, but it sounds like a great store

Fun place to hang out and good prices. Just dont go in demanding him to price match stuff you find online.

They said they are open today but I went and they were close first bad review for me Idk if I'll go back. Gamestop still might be the best

Popolos is an important place for youth in the community to have a place to play games and get the games they love!

Greats games and movies good place for teens to have fun and the owner is awesome cool.

I love the shop, great place to hang out, fair prices, and the people working the shop are always super helpful!

Decent place, decent prices. Despite some of the reviews my experience was overall good and we will likely return!

Great place! Sometimes they host a Pok?mon club for kids- which is awesome.

Couldn't exchange game during normal business hours because of a tournament but had no sign to say they were closed

Why buy used at 95% of retail when you can buy new..... This store does not feel inclusive if you are not a regular ....

Very friendly! Love to see the puppy each time I visit.

Better than any gamestop will ever be. Nuff said.

I just want to know if he is going to open today

Good when then owners around other guy is a total DB...

Perfect hanging out spot for gamers. Very friendly staff.

A chill place to get all your MTG gear. Friday Draft seems to be where it's at.

It is a nice store because it has low prices

My experience was good here... IDK why all the bad reviews

Taos`s best gaming and cards place. Lots of rare and old stuff.

Great prices great selection and helpful staff.

Never updates his inventory told me to go on eBay ????

Dude, get a job if you don't like the one you got. I, and my money will never be back.

Game on! New guy is super cool.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
