1012 Grand Street FL3 FL2, 1012 Grand St 3rd floor
Hoboken, NJ 07030
Decent spot overall, highly recommend ?just wish they'd focus more on cleanliness. The heavy fried oil smell and grimy play area are hard to ignore. That said, the PRICES are GREAT, so you really do get what you pay for. Plus, the range of activities is impressive: card games, arcade games, a bowling alley, golf simulator, and even a billiards court. Solid entertainment value
Golf simulators - they are okay, and at least priced fairly compared to alternatives with better setups. The simulator swing areas are too small and it's not practical to hit driver if you're tall or have a long or wide swing arc - unless you're fine slamming an expensive driver head into plywood. The balls are very crappy. The simulator interface is annoying to use and wastes a lot of time (that you're paying for) if you ever want to change settings. And they made a very poor cost-saving decision by puttin
We came to Play Hoboken excited to celebrate Father?s Day with a group of parents and kids ? and while the rest of the staff were absolutely wonderful, Ian completely ruined the experience. Yes, toddlers can be a handful ? they're two years old. If you're uncomfortable with how young kids behave, there are many ways to express that respectfully. But Ian? Chose to be rude, condescending, and totally unprofessional. I'm absolutely fine if certain equipment isn't meant for kids ? just say it with basic court
I wasn't sure what to expect when we found this place ?but I was looking for pinball on my Pinball Map app, and I found it! So far as I can tell, they have the *largest* selection of pinball games in town, and that is something. Barb Wire, Avengers, Last Action Hero, Lost World (1978), Hurricane and Cue Ball Wizard all worked fine, and the whole place (I think?) is pay per hour. We also checked out their extensive board games selection. They have a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks such as Jarritos and
We spent a rainy afternoon here while visiting our son in nyc. Had a great time with the golf, pool, darts and ping pong. Very helpful and pleasant staff. We will be back again.
Wish I could like this place since it's the closest hobby shop to me but the management needs to really evaluate their relationship with their customers. They jack up prices on everything such as card sleeves ($17 instead of $13) and make you pay $15 just for the privilege of sitting down to play magic commander even if there aren't enough people to actually play. I overheard the manager yelling at an employee for not taking away someone's Gatorade they brought with them. Maybe if they stopped jacking up pr
great place to just relax, spend the day and play different kinds of games, like arcade and board games. the pool hall is pretty big and spacious. its essentially got the layout of a old factory so its all very open. however, the food they sell is very low quality and definitely doesn't match up the price. they dont sell beer but will sometimes keep it cold (the owner is a big factor in this) but if you decided to have them store it for you, just know you wont necessarily get your drink. theres a lack of ma
Good amount of a variety of games. Great chill or date spot.
TL;DR owner called the cops on me and my kid for playing pool while we waited for a chess class. Would give 0 stars if I could. Stay away from this place. The owner threatened to call the cops on me when me and my kid played on the kid-sized pool table (see picture) while waiting for a kids' chess lesson to begin. As you can see, the pool cues and balls were readily available to play, no signage anywhere that it was pay to play. He quite rudely told me that I was "damaging his pool table" and that I "would
Edit: Leaving original review from opening below. Place has absolutely fallen off. Original Review: A fantastic all around place that I feel more people should know about! A great selection of board games, as well as golf, table tennis, and pool! The place is BYO in a spacious (albeit hard to find) area. We were one of the few people in the place, and I do hope this business receives the attention it deserves, as I feel this place is great for the community. I am very excited to bring my friends!
Love this place! Me and my gf come all the time to shoot pool or maybe play some pinball. Rates are fair and the facility is great, tons of options depending on what you're into. What really makes this place is the staff, always incredibly friendly and accommodating and make your time there really great. Wish I found out about Play! sooner!
Tim was a very nice man he explained to us about everything.. Will definitely be a regular at this place
Attended a Magic the Gathering event here. It was my first time at such an event but i had a great time. The staff are very friendly and accomodating. The customers/ Magic the Gathering community were also all very nice people. The store is such fun to be in as theres so much to do: arcades, golf, boardgame, billiards, ping pong, bowling. Its a massive space taking up the 3rd floor of a building which seemed like a repurposed warehouse. Lots of stairs! We ordered food off thier menu: chicken fingers, fries
Very rude owner/manager! Very bad experience for our group today! Hoboken deserves a better place!!
This review is based on a number of factors that may or may not be controlled by the owner. First of all, this business is a great concept, but in the wrong community. Hoboken is just not ideal for outside visitors as parking is absolutely impossible. They have a shared parking lot in the back of the property that is shared with multiple tenants and only 4 spots assigned to this business. Parking on the street is limited to residents with permits only, so driving here is a huge gamble. The condition of th
What a great place to spend some fun active time with my son playing ping pong or pool, also the staff is great and the customers are so nice and welcoming, you will feel welcomed the moment you walk in. Highly recommend this place.
This place is so much fun. There are hundreds of board games, simulation golf, pinball machines, and many other games to keep you entertained. They also sell little snacks and it's byob. The staff here is super sweet and accommodating. It is also very affordable at $5/hr. Went with two friends and played monopoly for three hours. It is so much fun here and would make for a great date spot as well.
Run by thieves. As other reviews will indicate, the manager Max is a very difficult person. He charged us $75 instead of $8 for moving a time slot for a booking (despite the fact that we were a large group that had stayed two hours and ordered a lot of food and drinks). He has not read his own website booking conditions, and fought with us over how cancellation policies work. In the end, it was after midnight and we paid just to get out of there. The food was burned and the waiter didn't know the menu or dr
This place has a great concept that unfortunately is completely ruined by Max, the Manager. We made a booking for 8:00P.M. yesterday but due to delays we couldnt make it and changed it to 10:00P.M. (More than 1h in advance) - we got to the place, played our games, ate our almost burnt fries and chicken and when we went to pay, he charged us for our slot but also for the slot we had cancelled (and the kicker - he didn't charge us cancellation fee - which they don't have anywhere) he charged us per person say
Well this is certainly a first for me!? I've been a regular here for about the past year. Recently, I had a few minor issues with PlayHoboken!, and instead of rationally discussing with managers Max and Ian, I chose to blow things up, by writing a rant here. Come first thing the next morning, I took it down, realizing how childish it was of me. BOTTOM LINE: Every time I've had an issue (all minor) and brought it up to Management, I've ALWAYS been taken great care of, and accommodated fairly. Coming he
I went to play pinball. The staff claimed they had a mechanic on staff, but he must have been out sick for the past couple of years considering only 2 of their 10 pins even started a game. Hurricane was the only playable game. The other that started had inoperable flippers. Maybe I'm a little mad because I just traveled 30 minutes from Manhattan to play. I was there for 5 minutes and promptly left.
I just had a terrible experience at Play Hoboken. This is my third time there and my third encounter with their manager. I must preface this note by stating that there is no sign placed up in the business that claims users of the virtual golf bays are responsible for any damages done to clubs. Nor did I have to sign a waiver prior to playing. Customer service is something every business should take seriously. After playing a round of virtual golf, the manager accused me of denting the head of one of his dri
Simple place good enough if come for the game, its not place for food or drink , here only games as pool , tennis and other stuff...
Fantastic pool tables. Primarily 9 foot gold crowns with simonis cloth, Brunswick centennial balls, all in great condition with plenty of clearance for cueing around the tables. Also three 7 foot valley bar boxes up front, if you want a smaller table. Staff is super nice and rates are great.
HIDDEN GEM. Amazing Friday night with a group of about 8. We called ahead to reserve a few ping pong tables. We played for a couple hours before switching to pool and golf. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. Sophie was great helping set up the reservation and providing us with complimentary water whenever we needed it. Great space and great time will be back soon
Great place, right in the middle of Hoboken. They have ping pong, indoor golf, billiards. Most important - you can bring you own BEER!!! Very nice people, spacious room. I've been passing by this place for a year. It's kind of hard to spot - you need to look up for a little sign above the door. We'll be coming back with the whole family often. We live just across the Columbus park. Good bless Hoboken. We do have everything.
Booked a party 3 weeks in advance for private party room upon going to see the room was very disappointed. Very small with 2 fooseball tables in room. Was not able to accommodate 35 people.. Also booked 2 hours of golf with deposit..Asked for refund and was told there is no refunds..
I had a good time with some friends. I didn't use the golf simulator but played pool on both the small tables and large ones. It's byob, which is cool. I brought some beer and they put it in the fridge. The guys were friendly and gave good customer service.
"This is a business, not a community center", says the man that charges people to play a card game or Dungeons and Dragons. Why do I have to pay for things that I can do for free at other card/hobby shops? The gall of this man at the front counter... I sure hope he isn't the manager, because he needs to learn to treat the customers like a human, and not an ATM machine. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU INTEND ON PLAYING anything other than chess or golf. Everything here is a rip-off, especially the food! You can get
Friendly staff, fair prices. Spacious; something for everyone: seven state of the art golf simulators, board games, pinball, arcade games, e-games, seventeen pristine pool tables, darts, foosball, and HITT - high intensity table tennis. Snacks and soft drinks are available at Play Hoboken. You can BYOB (beer and wine) and the staff will refrigerate your beverage for you while you play your games.
What could be an incredible experience in Hoboken is often ruined by the staff. Either incompetent or rude every time. If you can get past that issue you have basically every game you'd want to play at your finger tips
They have such a massive selection of activities to partake in and enough space to entertain 15+ people. They were also very accommodating and nice overall
AwesoMe place for people who like to play any kind of games be it board, table tennis, pool, virtual golf . They have a lot of inventory for a plethora of games and the best part is the monthly chess tournament. Totally worth it!!
Not a great place. Dirty, bad location, no accessible elevator. If you go to play card games, like Magic or Flesh and Blood, the owner, Max, will try his best to swindle you.
Interesting pricing system- a bit expensive for what you get but unique and convenient for Hoboken. BYO and food menu which grows a bit everytime we go. Fun social setting and nice to work on golf game.
Owner is horribly out of touch with communication and customer experience. Sketchy and uncomfortably abrasive vibes from owner. Don't let the plywood fool you, this place is looking to pad it's pockets (hidden fees)
This guy is absolutely terrible with business and his customer service skills. I ordered a putter cover that was advertised as magnetic, but it was velcro. His excuse was "yeah we can't keep everything up to date". When I advised that I work for a web development / marketing firm and I know it's actually easier to update product spreadsheets than he explained he got silent. He made a soft offer for something else to make up for the mistake, then when I decided that maybe this would make up for his error
Great environment for board games, esports, table tennis, billiards, and an amazing golf simulator set up. Staff is knowledgeable and courteous, great place to hang out with your friends.
Just came for the third time this week and joined for the monthly board game membership. Amazing atmosphere, great prices, and awesome employees. Highly recommend
Not what I expected. This place is mostly for virtual golf and a very very basic mini golf "course". We could not keep score because the holes were not numbered. He didn't make us pay, which was nice. Build it and I will come back and pay!
Best place for board games in Hoboken. There are countless games, plus tables for pool, a golf sim, ping pong, and even pinball machines. It's a really nice location
They have gaming events from trading card games like Flesh and Blood and do things fairly. Certain employees really add to the experience and put in all their effort.
Amazing place. Me and my sis love it! Would recommend. By the way they have D&D
Amazing facility with a cozy and friendly atmosphere, the staff was amazing and always friendly and caring. Free stuff like water and popcorn really adds a cherry to this already amazing spot.
Golf sim was flukey, not the best. Also the dude in the beanie that works there was giving a weird vibe
This is a great spot! They have all kinds of boardgames as well as Foosball and darts. They also have the nicest staff! Highly recommend!
Low key with friendly service, this place never disappoints. Great for families in the day and still makes for a great BYOB hang out for adults at night.
Fun place and helpful staff
They say they have a mask rule, but nobody follows it..... they don't make people follow it. Go at your own risk.... NOT UP TO SOCIAL DISTANCING GUIDLINES
Great facility, although it's a shame they won't let NGG rent out another one of their rooms for a realistic price.
Awesomely cool place! Even got a great chess lesson there!
Amazing and fun, great staff and unique resource for Hoboken and the Hudson area!
If ping pong or pool is your thing please go, the guys are really trying to attract customers
It's the best place to play pool in Hoboken.
This is not a mf driving range in case anyone saw this when you type in driving range into google and google tells you this is a driving range.
Extremely over priced. Not worth it at all. Do not recommend!!!
Low key a board game players paradise!
Must place to be, pool ping pong and board games with golf simulators!
Games and more! Max is awesome!
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds. Though less common than video games, pinball’s tactile charm and community vibe make it a standout arcade experience in 2025.
Yes, pool tables in arcades remain a fantastic draw in 2025! Games like 8-ball or 9-ball offer tactile, skill-based fun that blends strategy and precision. Modern tables feature smooth felt, responsive cues, and vibrant designs, enhancing the classic experience. Arcades foster a social vibe with casual matches or competitive tournaments, appealing to all skill levels. Unlike digital games, pool’s physicality—lining up shots, feeling the cue’s weight—keeps it timeless.
