Out of This World Arcade and Game

Out of This World Arcade and Game

Reviews Summary

The arcade offers a nostalgic experience with a great selection of vintage games and consoles, often praised for its $10 all-day play or 25-cent per-game model. The owner is frequently described as knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate, with fair prices and excellent customer service. However, a few reviews highlight poor interactions, citing rudeness or unclear directions to the basement location. Most visitors highly recommend it, especially families and retro gaming enthusiasts, despite occasional complaints about maintenance or pricing. The arcade’s charm and unique collection outweigh the negatives for the majority.

Customer Reviews

I rarely leave reviews for places, but my friends and I had such a great experience here I had to share. The location has moved and is no longer in the basement of a coin store, it's in its own spot now! I was super impressed with the quantity and quality of vintage games, consoles, & peripherals. I wasn't expecting to pick up anything, but I impulsively bought some DS games. The prices were super fair, and the owner was supremely pleasant and very knowledgeable. I LOVED the arcade! The variety of games

Wonderful spot if you love video games and are in the area they have an outstanding selection of vintage game and assorted things from yesteryear. And the 5 dollar to enter free play arcade is a blast!

Amazing arcade experience. The owner is very kind, helpful, and knowledgable about all sorts of games and systems. This is the first place I look when I'm looking to add to my collection. The arcade is only $10 for all day play too, honestly the most cost-effective fun thing to do in Petoskey! I have been visiting for 4 years and always know I'll have a great experience. Highly recommend checking this place out.

My 7-year-old and I (a 80s kid) had an absolute BLAST at the Out of This World Arcade and Games. The owner has been collecting arcade cabinets and games since he was 15. He's passionate about retro gaming and has even bought and refurbished non-functional cabinets. In addition to playing games you can also browse the owner's massive collection of Atari 2600, Commodore 64, NES, SNES, N64, and Sega game cartridges and consoles (most in original packaging!!!) - all for purchase. The best part is that each ga

This has to be my favorite place to get the best nostalgic games! Super chill atmosphere and you can't beat $10 for all day arcade play!

I had such a blast playing the arcade cabinets here! And it was a great deal being able to just pay and play all day! the inventory here is a blast from the past felt like a kid again!

I didn't go into the arcade. I went to check out the value of an inherited coin collection. The owner was more than helpful!! And he was one of the nicest people I've met in the business! He REALLY KNOWS coins!! I would definitely recommend his shop to anyone looking into buying or selling coins..He also offers more than fair value.

Lots of stuff for sale and an awesome arcade in back where you can play all your favorite retro games! An excellent way to spend an afternoon!!

Honestly this place is amazing its so organized and well kept, great customer service and has a lot of inventory I rely on this store for all my needs I will not use eBay because he is a trusted seller 100%

Incredible! It wasn't the easiest to find, there's a sign in the window of a coin collection shop. The gentleman in there directed us to the downstairs part of the building. The owner of the arcade was very friendly and helpful. The games were great, my boys loved playing older arcade machines. There's a great selection! I'll visit anytime I'm in the area!

My boyfriend and I had a very fun experience there on a rainy day! There's a lot of retro arcade games in very nice condition. Definitely recommend spending a couple hours there!

Oh my gosh. So I'm well aware there is a retro game store in my town (TC) but let me tell you, the drive is worth it to this place. I have terrible anxiety and I always feel welcomed, never belittled and my questions and concerns are always welcomed. I have bought so many games from here and will continue to do so. This is my go to spot. Heck, it's a cool place to just check out!

Very very cool place. Read some of these 1 star reviews and kinda laughed to myself because that's not at all what our experience was like. Owner was very kind and also incredibly knowledgeable. Now that we know this is here we will most definitely be back. The arcade itself is one thing but the layout of the entire vintage video game collection is well thought out and hits all the right nostalgic feelings.

Horrible experience. Walked in and asked where the arcade was, due to their being a sign in the window. Some older man looked at me and said it's this building down stairs I had replied okay I'm out of town and never been here before, can you show me how to get there? He replied saying, I already told you, why don't you leave now, they don't want you here. I genuinely did not know what he meant saying in this building down stairs as it was an extremely messy coin shop with no video game arcade details insi

My family of 6 had a great time at this arcade! For much less than the cost of a movie, my kids (ages 13, 11, 9, 7 - boys and girls), wife and I were thoroughly entertained for 2.5hrs. Just being able to see the collection, is worth the $5 cover charge. My kids are already saving quarters for the next time we go! The arcade is in the basement of the coin shop, so you will need to go in the coin shop and ask for the arcade. Don't miss this gem!

Fairly small selection of vintage arcade games and as to be expected some were down with monitor issues but al worth the visit. You pay $5 for entry fee and games do require quarters so it's a bit different model than the "bar cade" scene with unlimited play for an entree fee but he isn't selling drinks or food. Awesome collection of vintage home console games as well. You pay in the coin shop store front upstairs and the arcade owner will open up the basement arcade. Grant (owner) is super nice and kn

Amazing selection of vintage arcade games for play and retro games, consoles and accessories for purchase! Arcades were only 25c a play and the prices on the home consoles and games were extremely reasonable. The owner is a passionate collector and a pleasure to talk to. If you're into video games and in the area you owe it to yourself to check out this shop!! As a note, in case it's not clear this is currently (as of Oct 2022) in the basement of the coin shop.

This place is extremely cool. It's like walking into an arcade from decades ago. They also sell all kinds of current gaming stuff, and retro items. They are in the downstairs of a store, so not easy to spot from the street, a sign would definitely bring in more business. I know more people would love a place like this. Only a quarter per game, it was awesome to have my 13, 7, and 4 year old play games from my childhood. Well worth a stop, and the man that runs it is extremely knowledgeable and friendly

I have always been very happy with this stores customer service, prices and buy offers. I am impressed with the store he has created, his attention to detail, and his presentation. Your game and system selection is amazing and your prices are always fair. You have my continued patronage. I will be in soon to buy the xbox 360 you are getting ready for me. I will be putting a pocket full of quarters into your arcade games too! I can hardly wait!

Fun retro games, can trade in as well. Dress lightly and youll do fine. Bit warm down there otherwise marvelous. Can buy videogames, game system holders and controllers. Owner was very attentive to our questions about merchandise. I left an item behind and he returned it to me as I was leaving the shop.

My Dad and I really enjoyed visiting here today. Very kind folks who own the place and an awesome selection of cabinet classics! Lots of great stuff for sale too if you grew up with or just enjoy retro games, they have pretty much everything. Will be back soon for sure.

Have been here so many times and seeing the 1 star reviews claiming the owner is rude breaks my heart. Every single time I have went in I always end up staying 20-30 minutes longer than expected just because the owner is so passionate about his hobby and there arent many people around here you can geek out about retro games to. Prices are all on par or less than ebay and an entry fee makes complete sense! Those machines each cost thousands and all of the games in there have value. Some really heavy hitters

Honestly a really nice guy that works there, really helpful advice for games. Their selection is good and the determination of prices is pretty fair. My only small gripe is that there aren't any orders and you have to rely on someone trading in a game. But the store has quite the satisfactory library, so finding items of interest isn't often a problem. Anyways 5/5 wayyy better than GameStop.

Unpleasant experience. The selection was decent.but nothing is priced.only game store in the state that doesn't price any inventory. He uses a game price chart that changes daily/ uneducated customers I would avoid this establishment at all costs. Make the drive to grand traverse gameing in tc wont be dispointed.

Had a great time stopping in while vacationing up north recently. There aren't enough stops like this nearby so it was a rare treat to walk around and drop a quarter into some cabinets. The owner is very insightful and friendly and has no shortage of stuff to gawk at.

Grant has the best customer service. He usually has what I want or need. His prices are decent and stands by his stuff. And let's me stand around all day and talk to him about games and everything else. Oh yeah the stairs are just fine.

Has a great selection of arcade cabinets. Awesome store with a great selection and games. The gentleman is very kind and helpful.

Extremely rude shop owner and employee! I am currently in Petoskey for my birthday and wanted to check this place out. I was looking all over the place for it and finally ended up in this coin shop and asked the people behind the counter if they knew where the arcade was. In a rude tone and demeanor said, ? it's here,? and I replied, ?oh great! Is there a separate entrance, or is it downstairs?? They both then replied, rolling their eyes ? it's down those stairs, and it's 5 dollars admission.? I then asked,

This guy has earned every star. Customer service is amazing. And he always stands by his products he sells. If something goes wrong with what you buy, he is there to do whatever he can to fix it. And prices are really competitive and willing to cut a deal with in reason. THIS IS MY GO TO GUY FOR GAMES!

I have been going to the coin shop for a while and now I love visiting the arcade as well. They have a great selection of arcade games to play as well as home gaming system games to purchase, they also have a nice selection of old comic books. The owner is very helpful and always friendly I love this place

The owner was rude to me, gave me an attitude for simply asking questions, and my conclusion; it doesn't matter how impressive your arcade game collection is; I went out of my way to come to this arcade, and THAT was how he decided to treat me. I'm never coming back.

If you are a fan of retro video games and video game consoles, this is your best option if you live in the Petoskey area. Grant is very helpful, and he is very knowledgable about his inventory. I honestly don't know what the people claiming that they're rude are on about.

Pretty cool game machines and a awesome retro selection! The only thing is the place and owners gave me a weird vibe, maybe it's just me ?????

Hidden gem of an arcade in the basement. Our family had a blast and also checked out the currency on the main floor.

So impressed. Sure, one guy is on shift and the machines raise the temperature. But, the store selection and games offered in cabinet; truly stand out.

Fun place to take kids.

Always a good experience. Not an independent company. Always had to be turned on when we show up. Could be amount of business tho. Owner also works for the coin shop up stairs.

A really good selection of vintage games up to PlayStation 3 era unfortunately nothing is priced so you have to ask about every individual item and the arcade is pretty good too.

Absolutely incredible hole in the wall! Owner is super friendly and helpful, with an almost encyclopedic knowledge of vintage games! 100% recommend.

I have been in your store multiple times. I thought my kids were going to fall down the stairs. As for customer service it is lacking. I have been in management for years. I felt like it was a very awkward atmosphere.

We Checked this hidden gem out yesterday and it did not disappoint! I highly recommend especially if old school arcade games are your thing!!! Certainly brought me back to me childhood ??

Great video game store and arcade. Lots of old games to play. A good selection of video games and consoles for purchase. Good number of sealed games as well.

Really cool vibe here. It's down below the currency shop and has a great atmosphere to visit with friends. The owner was nice too.

I really like this arcade because there's no door fee, all the games are only 25 cents a play. So even if I dont have much cash, I can still play games.

This is an awesome place and the attention to customer service is outstanding! The variaty of games and location is perfect for a family outing for all seasons. I also, highly reccomend it for all ages!!!

So good! Very old school quarter arcade. Owner was very good with helping my kids. Would 100% recommend.

Test the game before making a purchase.

This place is fantastic, the games are always in good condition and the owner is friendly and knowledgable. Im happy with the service and the space.

Looked a bit sketch, like we were in the beginning of a horror movie, but the arcade was really cool and pros definitely outweighed the cons.

Went in yesterday for a simple question, Turns out this place is even better than I'd anticipated! Definitely coming back! Thanks for the help Grant!

I love this place and it is retro like stuff I would do more than 5 stars if I could

Great selection of old cabinet games to play and the owner is very knowledgeable and kind!

Lots of old school games and game systems first experience there and I couldn't believe all of the old game systems they had. Would highly recommend visiting??

Great buisness, owner is super helpful and really great to deal with, amazing collection great shop

Customer service was terrible. Prices were unfair and felt like owner just tried to take advantage of all their customers.

Love this store Never had a bad experience here everyone is always nice always leave with something cool

He wasn't there ,he left a note that he would return in 3 minutes, and I waited for a hour and didn't return thanks jimm u just lost a customer

Found some stuff I couldn't even believe I'd find in town! I love this place!

My nephew and I had fun! We will be back.

Nice arcade games and very helpful with game questions great service ??

Lots of games to look at and classics to buy and play.

Never knew this was here. Excited to come here more often.

Amazing game selection

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
