Otaku Cafe

Otaku Cafe

Reviews Summary

The consensus is overwhelmingly positive, with most reviewers praising the affordable arcade access ($10 for hours), diverse selection of Japanese rhythm/fighting games, and welcoming staff. Many highlight the unique combination of arcade, anime merchandise, and community events. The store's layout (merch area, lounge, anime viewing space, arcade) and cleanliness are frequently mentioned. While most ratings are 5-star, a few note minor issues like occasional cashier mistakes, limited snack options, or missing parts in merchandise. The arcade's value, friendly atmosphere, and rare social experience make it a beloved spot for anime and gaming fans. One negative review mentions a defective product with poor customer service.

Customer Reviews

Very rhythm game and fighting game centric arcade. Clean, offers a good chunk of Japanese arcade games, machines were well maintained and there was a friendly and welcoming environment. They offer hourly play, which was easy to understand and budget friendly.

BEWARE!!! I purchased a Perfect Grade Unleashed RX-87 Gundam from them. It was missing a full runner sheet, so I can't build it. It's also missing the import/warning sticker that Bandai requires to honor the warranty. I called Otaku Cafe for help and they said nothing they can do. $300 wasted!

Me and my friend come here all the time, staff are super friendly, and when i lost my apple watch i was pleasantly surprised at all the security measures they used to make absolute sure it was my watch they were giving me. Great for fighting gamers, rhythm gamers, anyone trying something new, and gundam enthusiasts and hobbyists. Love this place a lot!

Such a cool place! The selection of figures is actually some of the best I've seen here in San Antonio and the games were so much fun. For the price you absolutely can't beat it and the selection of snacks and cute trinkets was also really good >.< hidden gem that everyone who likes rhythm games should visit

Great place to shop friendly great environment forget the guy name who help me with my fist gundam kit to build thank ya guy's will definitely keep shopping there for my gundam kit's!

Absolutely love this place for any of my statues and Gundam kits. The arcade is amazing

Excellent customer service!! Really beyond fair priced on the waifu figures!! Wish they can do trade ins, but im not complaining, definitely better than other places!!

Great selection of figurines and model build kits at affordable prices! You can spend a whole day hanging out in the arcade and not break the bank. They had a good variety of arcade games to play solo or with friends. I will definitely be back!

My boyfriend and I came here to play games and paid $7 each to play unlimited games for two hours! they have a lot of Japanese rhythm games and two dance type games as well. The 'cafe' portion here is a little lacking except for a few drink and snack options. they also sell figurines and anime merchandise that seemed a bit pricey, but overall, we had a blast! the staff was friendly and the store was clean, even for a busy Saturday night! We'll definitely be back again!

This place is so nice! Decent selection on anime merch, GREAT selection on figures, lots of Japanese snacks, and a great arcade in the back all at very reasonable prices Staff is super nice and friendly The store has 4 sperate spaces which is super nice 1) The store with all the merchandise 2) a small lounge with chill music playing 3) a small sitting area where they have anime playing on a projector 4) and the arcade in the back Love the spaces makes it so comfortable and it was all SUPER clean

You can't beat spending $10 for hours of access to an arcade full of a great selection of Japanese rhythm and fighting games. The store front is full of fantastic imported anime items that are too tempting to not buy. Staff is incredibly friendly and they host plenty of fun events for the anime/Japanese media consuming community~

I'm so glad we found this rare gem in San antonio. The atmosphere here is really fun. You can't beat $10 for hours of arcade games too. There are a lot of anime figures and Gundam to look at and buy. Plus they have a nice selection of snacks and drinks from Japan. We really enjoyed the Gundam night, and for only $10 it was really nice we got a slice of pizza a drink and a little snack plus my partner got to build and participate in the Gundam competition. My partner has so much fun building and chatting wi

I've been to a few anime/ figure shops in town and this is definitely one of my favorites! So glad I finally got around to visiting. The figures are reasonably priced and there's a good variety that rotates. I love places that encourage community and between the rentable space up front, arcade in the back, and anime viewing area with tables and chairs, this is a great spot for that!

Great place with a laid back atmosphere. Huge arcade in the back that is a very affordable option for hours of fun. Would be a good date idea to have fun, or you can stop by and view their assortment of figures out front. They are on the slightly pricier end for the figure market. They also have good snacks options, both prepackaged and refrigerated.

I'm her mother. She took me. I loved the food. A good change from comfort food. Healthy and Tastes GREAT.

I'm not a gamer but was intrigued so I walked in to check it out since I'm a business neighbor. This place is really cool from the clean cozy arcade to all the products. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. Positive vibes and such a great hangout place for those who love anime. The customer service was on point too, young adults you can tell that love their jobs answered all my questions. I also happened to meet the owners by chance , they walked in as I was leaving and they were the most kindest youn

I love the rhythms games in there you can't find them anywhere else

Otaku Cafe has a great, friendly atmosphere and staff with a nice selection of prize figures and model kits. Great place to hang out!

Love this place! Everyone is always so nice. The aracde is amazing, and they always have what I'm looking for to work on my models. Thank you for all yall do!

Such a unique experience! I took my five-year old son there for a daddy-son date and he loved it. Definitely a place I'd hang out as a teenager too.

10/5. Amazing games, amazing staff, just amazing in general. I might be slightly biased because I'm a rhythm game fan, but even if you don't like rhythm games, this is still a fun place to go with your friends. Also they have a giant Miku plush.

We just lamdwd on san antonio and decided to take the kids to tjis cafe. It was an amazing experience. Prices are very very accessible. The all day pass is the best. You can go out and comeback again and again. Lots of space gteat selection of gudam models and the gundam arcade was my favorite. December 2 2024.

My daughter lost her bag, and they're generous enough to hold it until we got there.

Great arcade with lots of import games and collectibles! Super affordable and it feels safe! The staff is very inviting and they greet you as soon as you walk in! They also have a few import and local Asian snacks available. I was also surprised to see that they have an area for birthday parties, which is refreshing to see, as my kids are very into Anime culture and would probably enjoy an Anime themed birthday ????

A very unique anime experience. Has a cool arcade. Could use more "cafe" items.

I love this place. They have really good games, some of them are my favorites and some of them are ones I've never seen that I enjoyed. There are plenty of things you can buy there which are very interesting, like drinks, snacks, game cards, and etc, . The employees are very sweet, and they have videos there playing and V-tubers. But if you do not enjoy anything Japan themed, anime figurines, anime, V-tubers, video games then this place may not be something you want to come too.

An absolutely fine place to come and hang out! The arcade is cozy and has a ton of variety especially when it comes to fighting games, definitely check the place out if ya wanna get some game on!

Very nice little place! The main attraction for me was the arcade that they have. It's a really fair price for free play on the machines. They have a variety of fighters and Japanese rhythm games. Staff was also super friendly and helpful, and helped when the Chunithm cabinet was not working. My only real gripe is that they had multiples of most rhythm cabinets to play multiplayer but they only had one Chunithm cabinet! It would be really cool if they got another one, but would definitely recommend taking

Honestly shocked a place like this exists in this day and age. 10 dollars to play at an arcade for hours, plenty of tables for activities, allowed to bring your own food, plenty of tournaments throughout the month. The figures and merch they sell aren't necessarily a bargain but aren't unreasonably marked up either, same goes for the snacks. An extremely cool, extremely rare store that doubles as a social space to enjoy your hobbies with others. Please, please visit and support this business!

Loved this!! We came an hour before close and the gentleman at the register was so nice and informative as to how the arcade worked. It was so cheap for all the games you can play and UNLIMITED plays too. My bf, nephew and I had a blast. They also have a separate area where you can purchase Japanese drinks and snacks. There's tables where you can sit, eat and watch tv. They also sell a couple collectibles. Glad we stopped in and if we're ever in San Antonio again we'll make sure to visit!

Absolutely amazing!! I love their new location and staff. Everytime the fridge is not stocked, they stock it back up. I love how they try new things especially when it comes to the snack/drinks. The prices are very good and do well for what they stand for. You can even watch anime inside and bring your own food! So it's a great place to hang out with friends or family. They have a high variety of games and three DDR machines. It was almost like a mini convention. If i could come here every week, i would. On

A cute little place. The "cafe" part of the otaku cafe was lacking, no food/drink for sale aside from bottled drinks and snacks. Hourly rate for the arcade is inexpensive, but a good portion of the games are out of order. Edit: I went back on another day and the games I was talking about were working! Not sure what happened there.

Very affordable place to play games and hang out. Tends to get cold for me but the other side with munchies and items for sale is more comfortable.

I had such an incredible experience here. The staff and owner were so kind to us and I really liked the atmosphere. Also, they have some really amazing card packs that I didn't even know existed. Again, I appreciate how lovely the staff was here and I have some new card games that I've gotten into! Not to mentioned, I pulled a Sephiroth card, so this has instantly become my new favorite place to come to to purchase cards. Thank you so much everyone for being awesome. You have two new loyal customers!! Updat

Friendly staff and good selection of nerdy things including Gundam models!

Amazing place. I come here all the time. Great selection of snacks and gundams as well as figures and plushies! They always have gundam nights every now and then! The arcade is cheap and super fun. I enjoy every visit. Super friendly staff!

Very fun place for kids and to get away and play your own things. The arcade area was mine my husband and kids favorite they have so much stuff definitely recommend coming by to check them out.

Good vibes, I mostly come by to get a couple of figures or play at their arcade to pass the time if needed. Good selection of games & the staff are pretty cool. However, they do get pretty busy on certain days due to tournaments, etc. Never a dull moment, always a chill time.

Figures and rhythm games all in one place, definitely worth a visit

For around 5 to $10 per person if you enjoyed playing video games I would highly recommend coming here. I believe they usually have smash tournaments on Tuesdays or Thursdays and it gets very very busy. They don't have a huge variety but that does also reflect the price and the games that they do have are very nice games. Well I personally think that it's maybe not worth it to drive really far out to go to this place if you're in the area i'd highly recommend it.

Japanese rhythm and classic fighting games ?? ?? smash bros tournament every Thursday... anime everyday

super fun place for rhythm/ fighting gamers/otaku alike to hang out!

Love the otaku snacks and drinks. Awsome arcade and priced affordable on a low budget. Merch are have a good variety of things to buy from keychain to figures to plushies and wallscrolls. Got my Luna here and love the quality the price I paid was worth it

I really enjoyed it! Lots of fun options, nicely air conditoned and the hand sanitiser wasn't empty, lol. $7 for 2 hours is pretty good! However, I do have two complaints (not sure if they'll fall on deaf ears here but worth a shot): One of the Project Diva machines has a very dim screen and the volume is very quiet. I feel some of the buttons weren't the most responsive, compared to the better one right next to it. I also wish I could use my Aime card on them but I'm not sure if that can be adjusted. My s

They have sets but not all of it is on display. Just ask and they got you!

Very cool place. Fun vibes, friendly staff, and great offerings. Prices were also very reasonable.

I've been coming here for a long time and it almost feels like a second home. The selection of games are always growing, the prices are fair, and I love the snacks. I appreciate that they took my suggestion and added a schedule so that I know when events are going on. Hands down my favorite arcade to hang out at!

Amazing stuff and love the variety of fighting arcades they had

We visited this spot while we were on vacation and looking for something to do for a couple of hours. It was a great choice. It was so much fun and the staff was kind, friendly, and welcoming. They have great arcade games and shop with a great variety of collectibles. As a bonus, it was very affordable. Highly recommended. I would give them 6 stars of I could! (Side note: other patrons were just as kind as the staff)

Great place for anime lovers.. variety of arcade games, bring your own food, bring your console and play with friends.. bring the family

This place is a haven if you enjoy anime video games, rhythm games, or anime culture in general! There's tons of events happening throughout the week, from tournaments and even to Gunpla events. The arcade is very reasonably priced and gives you access to games that you can't usually play. This place is awesome if you're just going alone or want to bring a few friends with you, with japanese snacks and drinks that you can eat between going into the arcade or just chilling on the tables. I highly recommend t

I've been coming here for a few months to about a year. There has been a significant improvement with the customer service (before it was lackluster and now every person I've encountered within the last 6 months has been pleasant). Their facilities are clean, the arcade is really fun and they maintain their machines (always a plus). It seems that they take their customer's inputs into account, which I appreciate. I will continue to come to this arcade, seeing it is one of the best in town so far.

Super awesome place. Great selection of gundam model kits at decent prices. I will make this my go-to stop every payday lol

Had a super fun time with my friends here! I loved playing all the rhythm games (especially Sound Voltex!!!) The staff here are nice as well. Totally recommend chilling out here with pals ?????

Cool place. Lots of fun video games, toys, and models from japanese cartoons and the like. I visited for a video game tournament. (Note to self: bring your own ps5 if you want to do warmup matches or casual matches after tournament). Most people hanging out gaming and stuff are shy and don't really want to talk or play games with strangers.

Awesome place to chill and have an impromtu 12 y.o. Bday party! The staff is super chill and are very accommodating! Major props!??????

Very chill and welcoming environment. Cheap arcade and always a different selection of figures/wall scrolls/stickers/plushes when you shop there. Great snacks too.

Pretty cool spot. It's an arcade primarily but also offers a selection of anime related products such as collectible figurines, plastic models and trading card games as well as a quaint selection of drinks and snacks. As a weekly patron for the past several months, I've been shorted change by the cashier a couple times but I don't think she was intentionally doing so. I usually pay in cash only and I think most folks pay either debit or credit so perhaps they just don't have much cash on hand when it comes

I absolutely love this place! The games are fun, the snacks are awesome! The staff is super nice and chill, my only complaint... WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE 30 MIN FROM WHERE I LIVE? ??If I could I'd go everyday, and maybe just maybe try to be social and make some friends. I moved here about a year ago and I still haven't made any friends. Anywhoo... Great place :) love it and we need more locations made of this place one day!

Came across this cool place! We had to go in and check it out, glad we did. They had a small amount of figures priced very reasonably. They had cool snacks. And the arcade was all so cool as well! We didn't have time to stay and play but we're definitely planning on returning. Clean place. Very nice staff. Mask are mandatory to be inside.

This store is amazing!!!!!!! the staff is so nice!!!!!! >_< my favorite staff was grandpa ;P Anyways if your looking to just have fun and play in the arcade or play ichiban kuji (a Japanese blind prize game). This is the place to go! its always a nice and welcoming environment and the staff is amazing :D They have everything here from gunpla model kits to arcades and anime claw machine from japan. Stop by :3 and have fun!!!! just be careful xD time flys by here, almost like a time warp ;) heheh

??Review Update June 2023??? I cannot express enough how amazing the workers and owners are! They genuinely care about their customers and it wholeheartedly shows!! They've consistently gone the extra mile in terms of service and kindness and I plan to continue coming here for as long as possible! (Plus it's just a fun place to hangout and play games at!) ?-Initial review made around 2019? Great shop with really kind staff and a very fun arcade! Their arcade has loads of fighting games and my personal fa

I wasn't going to write a review because the overwhelming majority are positive. But the reviews about the mask policy made me feel like I had to add to the pile. I truly appreciate that they have enough concern for their customers that they continue to require masks and actually enforce the policy. It made me feel like I was in a respectful safe environment while playing arcade games that really brought me back to being in an arcade growing up and the ones I was able to enjoy in Okinawa. I had a great firs

This store is absolutely amazing and the workers are the most charismatic people around, every time I come around they recognize me and welcome all the other customers in warm arms, they try their hardest to accommodate everybody and the best part is they enforce mask so I feel safe walking into their wonderful establishment if I could leave more than 5 stars I would because they deserve it! they have a variety of figures, merchandise and snacks! The arcade is a lot of fun and always clean! Come by for an u

Great place had a good first experience and just continued from there. Love the arcade they have in the back, also like the store layout itself, you have you figures and whatnot. Fair pricing as well. Highly recommend this place for any fan of anime and any fan of arcade gaming

Not for kids under 16! Made the mistake of going in for Easter basket additions and I'm grateful I wasn't accompanied by my child. I'm not a prude but I don't expect to see naked breasts and sticky machines outside of a store advertising such things that prohibits minors.

Great experience and affordable pricing to enter the arcade section. I bought a Pok?mon blind box, not much selection there but I got the one I wanted. The arcade section is well ventilated which is great when you are working out on those games. I would recommend this place.

This is a pretty cool place with games and snacks. Brought my kids and they had a good time. Small mom/pop type establishment.

This was a very cute, hidden gem of San Antonio that is much worth the price. My friend and I paid 10 bucks for 1 hour ($5 per person per hour) and we had tons of fun here. We went here during the afternoon of a weekday, so it wasn't very crowded at all and we were able to enjoy nearly all of the equipment there. We will go back there again next time!

Great place with friendly staff. However, there are a lot of games here that I could just play at home for free. I feel like this place is specifically made for people who do tournaments. While that's awesome, the common person just wants to come in and play something new and different. There's one rhythm machine in the back that's fairly decent. The other few aren't so great. Hopefully new games and new machines will be added and things can be a little more exciting. The snacks are fairly common snacks, to

The atmosphere was nice and calm and fun at the same time. It was selling anime merchandise , Gundam builds to Japanese snacks, and you also get to game in the arcade room in the back. It was very cold but refreshing because it was a bit busy in the arcade room I hope in the future they get more Japanese arcade games and expand more of their merchandise to and snacks

The arcade is great, fighting and rhythm games and you pay by the hour, or for an all day pass. The price for that is very reasonable. The figure selection is a bit limited in what shows they have, but there is a food range of quality from 20-200$ figurines. The snacks are also limited in scope, and a bit pricey. Would recommend visiting for the arcade and enjoying yourself then going elsewhere to eat.

I checked this place out with my anime loving teenager. They have a little shopping area with anime items and some snacks. They also have an arcade with a good little variety of games. We paid $5 each for an hour of play.

Super great spot for all things Anime! Got to try their selection of imported snacks and rare Gunplay collections!

i wish houston had one of these, i would go everyday. 10/10 recommend stopping by if you're visiting SA

I used to love this place and went frequently but there has been to many added complaints of mine to keep going here. First there's no sanitization stations like wipes or hand sanitizer. Especially when a lot of the machines feel gross and sticky. Second , there's always a machine Broken all the time. And yall got rid of the driving game was my favorite. Y?all should do a poll or a survey on which games to replace and votes on new ones because a lot of regulars I can see just leave because of their favorite

I came once on a night where they were having a tournament so I can't attest to how busy it normally is, but when I was there the main game area was a bit crowded. It was lively and filled with people passionate about games, so it wasn't too bad of an experience, but yeah it's a little small on the upstairs area. Oh and this isn't the business's fault or anything but I almost died on their stairs so watch out for those. They sell figures and some snacks/drinks so that's pretty cool. So yeah, overall pretty

Nice prices on arcade time. 2 DDR machines up at the moment, one for casuals, the other for dedicated DDR workouts/expert use. Snack and drink selection was great, noticed a few drinks in the case were out of date though. Anime trinkets everywhere. Great experience over all

I went for the first time today with my friends. The entry fee for the arcade was a awesome price and just conveniently they were having a gundam event so I also got pizza and a soda. Not only that a chance at a raffle. The arcade games they had their were fun and addicting. Alot of fighting games but it be nice for like a dance revolution game or guitar hero. Both of those are classic and fun. They also had unique games i never played or saw before. The staff are friendly. Awesome snacks. Might be returnin

This place has always been super amazing the staff is always super friendly and are always helping everyone out..my son plays tournaments every Thursday and all I have to say is AMAZING. ??

Super fun place. Lots of music related game options, at least 3 DDR machines or something similar. Definitely some Retro games as well. When you walk in you'll notice a selection of figurines and other anime related things. They even have a fridge with some Japanese drinks and snacks. The prices are pretty decent too. I think it was $5 for an hour of game play but you can pay for more time.

We were across the street getting ice cream. When we saw the big letters "anime arcade" and we were immediately drawn to come see like moths to a light. On entering this place. It was so fun there were so many people there. That looked like they where having a good time, they had groups of people playing card games, people watching movies on the big screen and people all around snacking and smileing. They had tons of collectibles and drinks and snacks from Japan and then in the back was the real show stoppe

The selection of games was good. There were some figurines and model kits but not many. The snack selection was okay but seemed overpriced. You can get most of the stuff at Tim's Oriental Mart across the street from there. The carpet was stained pretty bad and made the whole vibe of the place seem dirty. I recommend going for the games but maybe bringing your own snacks. Also mask up. It's required there. ??

Friendly staff, cool things for purchase. Miss y'all's pastrys!!! Lol great smash tournament turn outs every Thursday! Not expensive at all to play games, a cool spot to enjoy some arcade games.

So much fun I love coming here. The games are so much fun. The snacks are amazing The drinks are delicious. It's so cool experiencing snacks and drinks from other parts of the world. Also they have several figures to look at and purchase as well as a drawing thing where you spend a certain amount of money draw a card and win the prize associated with that card. I can't remember at the moment what its called but its so fun. Masks are required which I don't mind. I love the place it's my new favorite place he

Super fun place! Employees were all very nice and I appreciate that they're continuing to require masks. Not a massive selection of figurines, but yummy snacks and drinks and a big arcade.

Lots of great games, very reasonably priced, a good selection of snacks, great customer service, and cool items you can't get many other places! It does get crowded on the weekend, so plan for that, but the air conditioning is REALLY good. Plenty of comfortable places to sit and hang with friends!

Clean, good atmosphere and friendly staff. The front area has anime figures and gunpla kits, along with snacks and drinks you can purchase. They have a good selection of rhythm games and many arcade cabinets as well. You can find a wide variety of fighting game cabs. They also hold local tournaments every month for games like Street Fighter and Tekken.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Why are arcade prize games so exciting to play?

Arcade prize games are a thrilling highlight in 2025! Claw machines, skee-ball, and ticket-redemption games like basketball offer a rush of skill and chance, with rewards like plushies, toys, or electronics up for grabs. Modern machines feature vibrant lights, digital scoreboards, and responsive controls, amplifying the fun. The lively arcade atmosphere, with cheering crowds and buzzing energy, makes every win feel epic.
