Mudbugs Dive Bar

Mudbugs Dive Bar

Reviews Summary

Mudbugs is a lively dive bar with a strong local vibe, known for its fun atmosphere, karaoke, and friendly staff. Many praise the great drinks, affordable prices, and eclectic decor. However, experiences vary—some highlight cleanliness issues, inconsistent service, or unexpected cover charges. While most enjoy the party atmosphere, a few had negative encounters with rude staff or poor conditions. Overall, it's a polarizing spot: loved by regulars for its charm but criticized by others for maintenance and service flaws. Best for those seeking a casual, unpretentious night out.

Mudbugs quickly became THE vacation? we legit went every night. Whether it was busy or a weeknight and kinda chill, we lived for it. The staff - many we now call friends? are unreal. Wanna go somewhere that you can find every type of human and just let go of reality? I hope it is like that for you and yours?. We look for any and every reason to return now. Some peeps are looking for ?things?? I dunno?. I love ?feels? and good times. Cheers!

This a fun dive bar. They had $5 Margaritas for Cinco de Mayo! As of right now, they don't serve food, but they may be changing soon. For a fun atmosphere and great drinks, I highly recommend.

Was on vacation from Tampa && went out for a Saturday night - definitely a vibe. Karaoke was amazing - drinks and shots on point! The staff was fun! Thank youuuu for showing this big city girl you can be lit in a small town on a Saturday!!

Review: A Hidden Gem That Knows Exactly What It Is** Tucked away in the heart of Gulf Shores, this bar is everything you didn't know you needed after a long day of souvenir shopping and selfie-snapping. If kitsch is an art form, this place is a masterpiece. It doesn't take itself too seriously, and that's precisely the magic. It's part dive, part time capsule, all heart. The cocktails are fun, unfussy, and hit the spot. The staff here don't just serve?they perform. Warm, witty, and genuinely happy to b

We had a blast over the Christmas to new year brake. The bartender helped accommodate my health issue so that we could enjoy the karaoke. (Minor adjustments to the lights) The crowd was friendly and fun. The sound system was pretty good. The karaoke host does a good job. The bartender didn't make us wait for drinks. Overall great experience!

A group of friends and I stumbled upon Mudbugs during an overnight trip to Gulf Shores. Everything?except the $5 cover?was typical dive bar fare. We ordered shots of Espolon before sitting in the outdoors area out back. The bartender and bar patrons were friendly, and karaoke appeared to be a solid draw. For a quick adventure in Gulf Shores, Mudbugs served its purpose well.

The food was great, but the bartender/server was not very competent. She first of all messed up our order and then said she had to charge us for it which wasn't really a huge deal. Then she was just all over the place in general. When she was making drinks she was just opening the cap and pouring the liquor straight into the mixing cup. No regulators. No counting.

Honestly it's fine but a $5 cover is kind of ridiculous. They are not offering anything special. $10 just for us to walk in the door and it was completely dead when we arrived. We went for karaoke and to shoot some pool. I asked for a drink menu and they said they didn't have one. We had 4 beers and an amaretto sour and it was $31 without tip which was very reasonable. Amaretto sour was in a tiny plastic cup. I will say the crowd was very nice folks. Prob wouldn't go back due to unnecessary cover.

Wife and I stopped in for a few drinks on Sat afternoon. This a great local establishment!! We really enjoyed our time and our drinks! The bartender was friendly and efficient, keep up the great work!!!!!

Mud bugs is AMAZING!! We had the best time celebrating my friend?s bachelorette trip. They were extremely proactive to the one creepy man there. They immediately kicked him out and called the cops. WE LOVE MUD BUGS, especially Larry!!! ??

My husband and I visited Gulf Shores for the first time. All the other local bars close between 9 and 10. So we came across Mud Bugs open til 3am. Karaoke inside. Live music out. Friendly bar crew. Eclectic atmosphere. Great little dive bar.

I didn't eat, so I can't comment on food. The service was awful. I never seen a bartender so high. She could barely pour a drink much less make change. I feel bad for the owner. He/she has to be losing money in every possible way.

So I haven't tried the food but I'm positive it was made with the love, came here the past two night and all the staff was so amazing and I ended up losing my wallet, then went home and they contacted me same night to let me know they found it. Would recommend 20/10, will be coming back <3

Service and atmosphere were top notch! The karaoke was also very fun.

Has a cover charge for 21+ even when it's empty. The female bartender was clearly hammered and couldn't remember any of our names or anything we ordered and was stumbling around the bar. We asked multiple times how much doubles were and she said $7.25, and when I tried to pay for five doubles it ended up being $50. When I asked about it the female got the other bartender ?zaddy? and he came over and called us liars and said we were trying to scam her. I explained that she was clearly intoxicated and that's

Awesome little eclectic dive. Good drink prices and really welcoming. Plenty of decor to check out with either a creek out back to hang out by or tables out front to satisfy you people watching needs.

Great dive bar in gulf shores. It was recently remodeled, and whatever "smell" people talk about is gone. Had a blast and we will be back!

Dive Bar indeed. Drinks are cheap, Staff is pretty suspect and every surface in the place has a film and petina that you just can't recreate without years of bare minimum maintenance & upkeep... Nice decore and great location, can't wait to go back!

Pretty typical dive bar, though pretty deserted on a late Sunday afternoon. Beer was cheap...no Cover change as others have mentioned, definitely not a place I'd pay to go to, but would stop back by anytime if no cover.

Didn't eat there so know nothing about the food or their service the service in the bar was great

I just had the most amazing smash burger, fries and margaritas on the gulf shore!!! I'll be back to snack again!

We didn't realize this was a gay bar when we picked it, but the regulars were welcoming and we had a good time. The staff are great, warm atmosphere and strong drinks. We'll definitely be recommending this to our LGBTQ friends.

Cool little spot. It was like the only place open past 10pm in Gulf Shores.

Our go-to spot on our vacation this week. We always try to find karaoke places when we travel.... and this place (supposedly) does Karaoke nightly. The 3 nights in a row we went, they did have it. It was a blast. It was a different crowd every night but always seemed to liven up after about 10pm. For as many people that were coming in and out, there were zero issues or drama that unfolded, always a plus in our books. We met some great people. The bartenders were awesome. On our second day to go to Mudbugs,

We purchased a number 2 and fried crab claws. The number 2 was enough for 3-4 people. The number 2 was incredibly overcooked. The shrimp stuck to the shell, which caused us to loose a lot of meat and it took forever to try and get the shell off. Staff were very friendly and the crab claws were great.

This is where it's happening, there's karaoke and all kinds of fun happening right now. You should see the atmosphere, everyone is having a great time. There are games and even a nice pool table. There are several bars, and you can get what you want almost immediately. No restrictions, just fun fun fun fun!

Hole in the wall local place. Probably crazy with young people in season, It was easy between Xmas and New Years. If you have a favorite dive in your town you'd like it here. A few games, karaoke sometimes, the obligatory wild woman, close to everything, and good prices. Friendly staff. Probably not for the faint of heart.

I'm not one to hop on google and write bad reviews, but we had the WORST experience here. There's a cover charge just to get in. Should have known that it would be a crappy time when we walked in and the whole place smelled like sewage. The toilets in the bathroom were literally bubbling. Every surface is sticky. Going outside on the back patio was not any better due to the fire ants that kept biting our feet and ankles. There was a $25 minimum for drinks. Speaking of which, the drinks were horrible, incons

Very fun place! Karaoke every night. Love the place! Just know if you don't spend over 25 they do charge for an extra drink to make it 25 just so you are prepared if that happens.

Most disappointing spot in Gulf Shores!! I hope the owners are truly the ones that have instructed their bartenders to not serve people with disabilities and service dogs. Because for what i could tell it's already a struggling bar but not surprised if they treat everyone the same as they treated us! So when it fails and it will i hope its due to the choice of the owner and not their employees making terrible choices. We were told that they did not serve people with disabilities and service dogs per owner

zaddy was the best bartender, great service !!! (idk his real name sorry)

Excellent local vibe with incredible service, specials and portions. Inside, there are spaces for pool, darts, karaoke and sitting. Outside there's a cool spot for mingling that goes to the water. The decor is unique and welcoming asst all times of the day and night.

This place is amazing. The staff are wild. So much fun!!

I'm a huge fan of quaint dive bars, and this is one of the best! Definitely the best in gulf shores! The staff is amazing, prices are great, and I've always had a great time. Service is super quick and they have karaoke every night. Everyone puts on a show! (good or not so good) it's always entertaining and fun!! Good bathroom mirror for selfies too

Friendly staff a real KEWL Dive Bar ??

Pretty sure the bartenders are just there I hang out with each other and can't be bothered to take a drink order. Smelled like stale beer and cat piss inside. Over priced and had really odd creepy vibe by some of a patrons. Steer clear and watch your drinks.

Great atmosphere, for all traveler's at the beach!

Ms Beaver and the Godfather had Such a Great Time. Singing Karaoke was a Blast. The crowd sung with us. Dan was Great. Definitely a Super Fun place to go. The next time we come back to Gulf Shores. We will come back. Loved you Guys

This place is awesome! The service exceeds expectations! Beer is super cold and they are always improving the atmosphere!

I enjoyed being here. The scene was one of the best bars I had been to as in they have two bars and a place for kareoke. I did not feel suffocated. The only complaint I had was that the bathroom smelled like a mudbug.

Our kind of local bar!! Our bartender, Sam, she was an absolute delight!! Even gave me a birthday Fireball Shot ??

It is not an 18+ establishment in Alabama if they are a bar it is 19+ please do not come here if you are under 19

When we arrived at 9:30pm, it was quiet. So we sat outside and listed to the solo artist. He was excellent and well worth the $5 cover charge. As the night went on, karaoke got started and the DJ was outstanding, quickly taking names and songs and keeping everything moving. The crowd was the best. A great mix of people, mostly younger crowd but also some older people too. It is a dive bar, and is dirty, with smelly bathrooms, but the bar staff keeps the drinks flowing, and the karaoke is a blast.

Lots of fun!! Great bartenders and the karaoke is a blast too!! The best 21 and up atmosphere you'll find on the Shores, I haven't found anybody to beat the happy hour prices either!!!!!

Don't believe the previous reviews on the bloody Mary drinks. They suck. They no longer serve food and the tables were filmy. Staff wasn't over friendly but we were there about 1pm dead. We had 1 bad drink then left. Won't be back. Also wife said bathroom stunk and there was a big dead cockroach in there.

The bartenders were super rude to me and my family and I think this is the worst place to go to in Gulf Shores.

I recently had the misfortune of visiting Mudbugs, and let me tell you, it was an experience I won't forget anytime soon?no matter how hard I try! First off, we paid a cover charge for what we thought would be live music, but nope, no band in sight. Just the sweet sounds of bubbling toilets. Yes, you heard me right?bubbling toilets! They were overflowing like some kind of gross water feature gone wrong. As if that wasn't enough, the drinks tasted like undercooked hotdogs. I didn't know that was even possib

I had a really great time doing Karaoke and the drinks were decent. People were friendly enough and I enjoyed my visit overall. The main issue was that they charged a cover charge to get into what was an empty bar and they don't even have a drink menu to look at. It isn't worth the cover when there are so many better venues that don't have one.

Seemed like pretty chill place, just not my place that night with drunken karaoke. Didnt stay long because of it, but got quick drinks. Prices average and no beer on tap.

Felt like I was going to get worms just from breathing the nasty air in there. Like do they ever clean? Every table was filthy, non of the toilets worked and bathroom was flooded, bar tender was super mad about serving me for some reason. He shouldn't be in the service industry... just absolute nightmare of a place. Took my $50 and gave me $22 back for 2 beers... wouldn't answer me when I asked where the rest of my change was. Save your money. This place needs to be condemned, tore down and the air around

It is its own experience a vary locals spot but the music guy last nite was Josh Newcom and he had the whole outside bar singing song after song

Thia is my bar!! They treat u like family

I had a great time here with my friends. The band was dope. The staff was cool. Def coming back !

I love mudbugs, it's definitely where we stop anytime we go to gulf shores. We love the lively atmosphere with wonderful attentive staff. (Sam is the best btw!!) Karaoke is always entertaining as well! We've never had a bad time!!

This is THE place to go. We had the best time. Thatcher was an amazing bartender. We will absolutely be back on our next vacay!

Haley was an amazing Bartender, she was quick to take care of us, give options and had wonderful conversation. Highly recommend

they only have one bartender working at each bar and terrible service. my friend was holding a $20 out to get served and some d bag in a security shirt walked up and took saying ?oh he was just offering it?. absolute tool bag. it was some small fat middle aged white guy with a neck beard if anybody at this establishment actually even cares

Going to Gulf Shores is always a blast but finding Mudbugs made my trip last time I went. Amazing bartenders and all around great time! Sam was a blast to have as a bartender, she always had a solid dad joke or pun on hand to make you laugh!

Came here with my girlfriend, who is 22. She handed her ID to the bouncer, and the guy scanned it over front and back before saying he had to go check it, and to wait at the door for him. He came back a minute later claiming her real ID was FAKE and that it would be confiscated. Another staff member, a lady who appeared to be some sort of manager (somehow), tried to say that it was fake because because "LICENSE" was spelled wrong. She got an attitude and condescendingly asked "do you know how to spell lice

I came here and ordered a beer outside, took over 30 minutes to get my beer when I said something to trey he called me a liar, then the bartender admitted it. I'll go to icehouse you don't have these feed isses!

Was slow but had great live music and karaoke. Pool and darts was cool too My friends and I had a nice time here.

This place is awesome! It has a down home feel and the karaoke rocked! Also, I had a drink called phenomenal! Ask for it, you won't be disappointed. Plus, the people were all having fun and relaxing. Nice place to meet locals and the right type of tourists. Recommend that you check it out!

This place is the horrible. Please don't waste your money or time walking into this establishment! Once you walk in the door it has a horrible smell. Maybe cleaned the restroom two years ago. ????? we bought one round and bounced! Go to a cleaner bar!

Great atmosphere. Great music. Awesome drinks. We will be back. Bathroom is nasty af tho

We arrived with a group and had already paid the cover charge when we realized the only thing worse than the attitude of the servers was the drinks. The bathroom filling the area with a sewage smell was a bonus.

If you are visiting Gulf Shores, put this one on your list! The DJ did a great job keeping the energy going all night long. Karaoke and Live music made it even better. Friendly staff and good vibes. I can't wait to come back again.

This place is awesome!! I love the eclectic decorations, there is a huge skeleton on the roof with a jager heart! The staff treated me like family from the get go. Skye, Adam, Josh, Yoshi and Sam were all really cool and friendly. Another guy BJ, from Arkansas was All the drinks I had were good, I enjoyed playing the bowling game and they even cheered me on when I sang karaoke! I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town!

I feel like I'm not the best person to come to when it comes to wanting to get a good opinion on a bar but here we go lol The staff was very nice! I don't really talk to anyone unless spoken to, but the small conversations that I did have were pleasant! The place was clean and the vibe was nice. I don't drink though so my experience will definitely be different from yours! Go anyway though, it was pleasant from what I experienced

Worst bar ever been too. Waitresses all standing around never did get waited on!!! It was 10pm new years eve and was just decorating. Charged $5.00 COVER to go up to the bar and get your own drink because they are to busy talking and on their phones to wait on customers. No food either. Just a bad place all together.

This is the thing I look forward to most about coming to Gulf Shores!! We always go to patches which has the best tattoo artists and then hit mudbugs!! Great party spot!! So much fun with the singing and great drinks! Best staff around! Security is nice unless needed to be otherwise!!

Mud bugs is the best place to have a good time and have a drink! Always a good time! The bartenders are the best and always know the best drinks for whatever day ur trying to shake off!

This place was HORRIBLE like we walked in and sat down and the people never acknowledged our existence the inside was just plain creepy we said heyy to the person at the counter and smiled and he just looked at us and went back to talking to other people after like 15 minutes of sitting there we ended up just getting up and leaving. We were under the impression that it was like a bar/food place but I have no idea what it was definitely wouldn't go there again. Guess they didn't want our money ?????

Beer is cheap @ 2.50, but not good. Obviously the beer has been warm then recooled. So gross. Huge bar has such potential, but they must not care. Very run down & dirty. Bartender is very nice tho. No way I would eat there.

2 stars because we stayed to drink because there was no we're else to go, and staff was friendly when you got there attention. We where to affaraid to even ask for food. We had to yell bartender to get service, not once did anyone check up on how we were. Bartenders got them selfs caught up with other people and ignored every one else, which was just my gf and I, or they were to busy taking shots and talking and eating with each other. There was literally only 2 or 3 parties , and a dozen staff. Seats ar

Great atmosphere. Good service people working there have funny sense of humor as well.

It's a pet peeve of mine when you go somewhere for karaoke and they do not start in time. We called ahead and they told us karaoke starts at 9pm So we got there at 8:30 When we get there, we paid $5 cover charge to get into an empty dive bar. Usually if you're paying a cover charge it's because you have live music, a Band or food. None of which they had. The DJ finally showed up but kept playing his music instead of starting karaoke. I guess the $5 cover is to pay the DJ? At 9:45 I finally gave up waiting t

Whoever the "new bartender" chick is that has only been there "4 days" should not be a bartender lol find another job sweetie Also, what kind of bar only carries Coors lite and not old fashioned Coors Banquet lol Pool table is trash too, don't bother.

This place is more like a local home town bar. Very open space three bars. Never had to wait for a drink. Sam the bartender was very friendly and talked to us like she had known us for years. Definitely will be back here!

When we got there, about 6:30PM, place was empty. Server said if was a more of an 'after' place. They are open til 3AM. Wife had a cheeseburger and I had a Philly cheese steak. Both were excellent! Fries were also very good. Beer was cold. Reasonable prices.

I've come to this bar SEVERAL times. It had become my regular spot. But Last night is my absolute last time coming. The bartenders in the back bar were all rude except Zaddy. Particularly the other male bartender. In fact, Zaddy was apologizing repeatedly for their behavior. I've NEVER seen bartenders openly screaming at customers and making fun of them over and over again. How gross. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure my last drink was laced. I was completely fine one second, and literally paralyzed the next wit

I would love to give this place 5 stars but there was two things that would need to be fixed before I could give 5 stars. We had a great time! We loved karaoke. You should definitely check it out even with the two cons I'm about to list. We also loved it was no cigarette smoking on the inside of the bar. The two things that need to be fixed, one the women bathroom is absolutely disgusting. I know from working in a corporate office women are disgusting but seriously yall should have someone assigned to che

The DJ is kind of a joke for karaoke?.we paid a $5 cover on a Wednesday and then got to sing 3 songs before he put on random ?dance? music? The drinks were a decent price and the environment is fun but don't bother coming for karaoke

The drinks were good. A couple bartenders seemed really down to earth. The other two seemed like they were on drugs. We were careful who to order drinks from. Karaoke seemed fun. I left pretty drunk and ended up having a rough rest of the night lol. Probably not a place for a lady to go alone. Gf thought it was clear some of the guys there were looking to take her home

Great drinks, awesome bartender and fun atmosphere!

This is one I struggled with on how to rate it... Because honestly mudbugs is a very fun place. With two outdoor areas with live music, a pool table, dance floor, and karaoke there's something for everyone. The music was great no matter which area you're at and the drinks are fabulous. But This is not a restaurant. At all. There is no grill. Even the vending machine just has cigarettes. And according to them there hasn't been food there in three years..

I was only going there for karaoke night and realized it was $5 cash to even get in. Why on earth does it cost $5 to get in to a low life bar? I would expect that from from a high tourist spot but not from some hole in the wall. Please explain this to me. I would not recommend this spot to anyone.

THIS IS NOT A SEAFOOD BAR AND GRILL. It's a BAR. With a "hot food" vending machine. $5 cover charge for an empty bar should tell you all you need to know. Don't waste your time or money.

DO NOT GO HERE. I waited 20 minutes to get in, just to be told it's a $20 entrance fee and I would have to wait another 30 after I paid to get in. The staff was rude and it is not worth spending your money for their ?service?. Honestly worst bar in Gulf Shore area.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
