Makutu's Island

Makutu's Island

Reviews Summary

Most reviews praise this play area as a fun, nostalgic spot for kids of all ages, with many mentioning they enjoyed it as children and now bring their own kids. The expansive jungle gym, slides, and arcade games are highlights, along with the air-conditioned comfort and affordable pricing. However, some note cleanliness and maintenance issues, particularly in bathrooms and equipment. A few complaints mention burnt food and rude staff in the café, while others appreciate the friendly service. The space is best suited for younger kids (under 10), though some older children may find it less engaging. Overall, it’s a beloved local gem with minor drawbacks.

Customer Reviews

As everyone says, the slides are awesome! The arcade is very decent. A machine gave us an issue and they refunded without an issue. The food is pretty good, curly fries and small pizza were yummy. It's a pretty cool place and worth a trip. Kid admission is $21.99 and one adult was free. Second adult was $5 and change. Socks were normal priced $3-4.

Great way to beat the heat this summer with the kids! Always looking for fun new exciting things to keep kids entertained while out of school! We spent hours at Makutu?s Island! friendly, helpful staff too! It's nice to see employees happy to be at work! Would recommend this place for your next kids birthday party or event! They take all the worry out of the planning! Also 10/10 with the food! It actually has great taste and flavor! Would recommend the icy flight as a desert!

Fun place for kids and Parents. Love the arcade & play areas. Enjoyed the adult drinks as well as kid drinks. The only negative thing was our churro fries were over cooked. Everything else was good! Love the patient staff!!!

We decided to come here today, cause it was 100 out and she still needed to get out energy and play. It's ALMOST not built tall enough for us big kids. I did hit my head a couple of times from crouching and standing up too soon. You can be a story high in the air, there's so many slides to go down. The climbing metal posts are kinda sketch, and I got dizzy really fast from going around in circles. They have an arcade. The restrooms have kid toilets. I used one and thought ?they took pooping into control wi

Bottom line up front - Go. It's a great place for kids. They will have a blast. Makutu's Island has new owners/management from the last time I was here and everything is cleaner, in better repair, and more well lit. The staff is friendly and constantly in motion cleaning surfaces and circulating the grounds. There's the giant central tree playground with snake slides. A blue tree playground. A Flintstones style cave playground with fish tank and waterfall! And a toddler's playground. Any child wil

My family loved this establishment! Wonderful staff, and just the absolute BEST play area! Loved that there was a beautifully clean family dining area as well. Worth every penny!

Just had my daughter's birthday party here and it was amazing. I cannot recommend this place enough. Every encounter I had with all the employees was positive. Everyone was so helpful and cheerful. They took care of everything in the party room and matched the theme of the party with their decor perfectly! They even boxed up my extra food and refrigerated it for us while we stayed and played longer. Seriously this place went above and beyond my expectations and we are so happy.

Been coming here 6 years, so much fun and best slides in phoenix ! Good food and video games! Ashlie upfront is really upbeat and nice and and Caleb who is the manager is always making sure that everything is clean. The food is really good to try the pretzels. Christiana over at the games booth is delightful person and very helpful! Jacob at the Cafe is the man he goes above and beyond and Lexi is nice and has a cool ?L? iced out necklace! Michael is the best!

It's a fun spot where my kids are always entertained, though it's definitely pricey, especially if you eat there food?s average but the pizza is better than most kid-friendly places. The place is mostly clean with decent restrooms and helpful staff, but the slides and high metal ladders can be a bit risky; my son actually broke his arm falling from one. While it doesn't have that gross kid-facility smell, the air quality is bad due to dusty fans and dirty filters, which is frustrating considering how much t

This place would be cool if it were sanitized/kept clean and wasn't falling apart. I understand normal wear and tear, but this place seems like they don't do routine maintenance. The bathroom needs a deep clean and the massive jungle gym needs maintenance and cleaning. There is caked on grime. It's overpriced for its quality. I question the safety of the jungle gym after climbing up into myself. With the broken parts and caked on grime, I just wonder how often they perform equipment safety checks. It's a hi

We had so much fun! The kids literally ran for 5 hours. The prices were fair and well worth it. I'll definitely be bringing the grandchildren again. Don't skip out on the snack area. I recommend the slushie flight, what a great way to treat the children without introducing too much sugar.

We had my daughters Birthday party here for the 2nd year in a row tonight. Lola was our party host and she was fantastic. The kids had a blast the food was so good and Lola our party host did amazing. She was truly a God Sent handling 32 kiddos. When we set up the party Lacy helped us and she was so great!! Definitely recommend this as your 1 stop party stop.

My daughter had her 3rd birthday party here and they did an absolutely incredible job. Very organized and they made everything easy. They decorated everything, served the food and cake and cleaned up too! They had lots of fun arcade games, and of course the jungle gym is so cool! We will definitely return for future parties and playtime!

Visiting Phoenix and found this amazing indoor playground for kids! Our kids absolutely loved every part of it! The island theme is so cool & their mascots are cute! The giant tree houses are realistic & they have spiral slides from 3 stories high! There is an aquarium with live fish, which my daughter said was her favorite!???? my son wants to do have his next bday party here! Thumbs up & 5 ?? for sure!

The purity of the late 90s early 00s children's play place is alive and well. Slides are dope and the place is just an enormous playground without a bunch of gimmicky pay to play add ons. No idea if the food is any good but the beer is

First time to Arizona with the kids, ages 4 & 6. This place was great! Cool temp, cool atmosphere, cool slides & climbing & games! I would recommend the place revamp their website- it was a little tricky to navigate to purchase tickets in advance.

My 4 & 6 year old loved this place! Everyone that works here is extremely nice and friendly and so good with little kids! I brought my kids here before but they were just a little too young to appreciate all the climbing and slides etc and I was extremely stressed out having to follow them around so they wouldn't get hurt. But now it's so much fun they don't even care where I'm at they are too busy running, sliding and playing with everything! Perfect place for a birthday party too! We're already planning t

It's a cool jungle gym for kids. Although they have a toddler area, it's not very big and this place is probably geared towards kids 5+. There are dark areas and hard to see/maneuver through parts of the jungle gyms to get to the slides, especially for the smaller kids. They have a cafe inside for food and drinks, but pretty pricey for what you get and not very appetizing to me or my toddler. There's also an arcade area where you can win tickets to redeem prizes. 4 of the games ate our credits and didn't gi

Me and my siblings used to come here as a kid and have so many fun memories. Now we bring my sisters kids and it's still so much fun. It's so good to this business still providing and thriving in our community.

We had a small walk-in party for my son's birthday. I just want to say that we love this place. Whenever any small issues came up, Kaleb was so helpful and kind. He was very patient with us and great customer service. Jacob was so friendly and had awesome customer service, as well. I won't forget how great they were! Thank you Makutu's for providing a safe, fun, family-friendly place with excellent staff. I would definitely recommend this place.

Cons: (the only 2 reasons for not 5 stat) Why does every park like this make you buy THEIR socks? Urban air traded my grandkids makutu socks to theirs, now I have to buy new makutu socks again? Stupid extra way to take my money. They are the same socks that I can buy at Walmart! And they need a better cafe. How about some healthy options? Pros: my 10 and 8 yo gkids really enjoy the very diverse and creative play area. The people working here are all very nice. It is clean and safe for kids to play.

I took my kids here, The place is beautiful it's a great place for like 5-9 years olds. If you have younger kids there not really much for them to do but I went to the restroom and it's unsanitary they can do better especially because it's a kids playground

Our children are 6 and 8 and absolutely love this place! It kept them busy for hours. (They enjoyed it so much that they saved their allowance to go again). Parents are welcome to engage in the play or rest, as the kids burn energy. The staff is friendly and helpful!

took my brother to makutu?s island and honestly, 10/10 for energy burn!! it's like a giant indoor jungle with slides, tunnels, and a ton of places to explore. super fun, clean, and the perfect spot when it's too hot to be outside. they had mini pizzas, a great arcade too! Not too spendy..of course with everything it was about $50 for us both, but not as bad as where we live in Scottsdale where everything is way over $100 for a day of fun, food, and arcade games!

I loved coming here when my son was little for toddler time. We recently got invited to a birthday party here. It was so nice to have the whole place to the family who hosted the party instead of being open to the public and hosting birthday parties. Very dark inside , not much seating for adults. Food wasn't the best. They have an arcade , most of the games were out of order, which was a bummer. Aww

This place is absolutely amazing!!!! Hours and hours of fun in the air conditioning! 10/10 recommend ??????

It was dark and dreary. Spent the hole time with a cellphone light to see where the kids are going. They didn't like it. Was not worth the 60 for 2 kids and 2 pairs of socks for adults. The slides where not fun unless you like getting banged up and scared up. Had to fight with the manager to even get one refund.

I was hesitant on this places based upon the mixed reviews. I'll have to say we've been to multiple kid friendly places and this is pretty clean, very kid friendly (I'd say U-10) and has good safety protocols for making sure kids and parents leave together. They play an assortment of kid friendly music that my kids enjoyed dancing to and have tons of tunnels/slides/climbing for all ages and skill levels. We did not eat any of the food but heard it's not great nor did we play games because of the extra cost.

Admission gets you in the door so that you can pay for more amusements. They even charge extra for mandatory socks. My grandson explored all of the included slides ladders and so on within an hour. I looked for a comfortable seat, but they only had benches. They did have nice comfortable massage chairs, but you had to pay to sit in them or an alarm would go off. If you want to leave and come back, you have to pay again. The atmosphere is warm and fuzzy, but the way they do business is not. I would suggest c

Had a blast, has a small toddler area too.

What a fun place (for kids between ages 5 and 12ish)! There is a small toddler zone but the young kids I know would be intimidated by the sheer size of the play gym! It's huge! And if they get scared inside the many tunnels, bridges, 2 story slides, etc, it's going to take you a few minutes to get to them. It's impossible to keep your eyes on your child at all times once you let them climb up. My kids (7 and 11) had a great time. My daughter loved the zip line! The place is clean and well-maintained and the

Love this place! Made by Disney! I turned 43 and my grandson 3 today! It was Kinda scary up high for me and the 3 yr old , but other kids were all over the jungle, super fun arcade games, and it's a really great price!

So fun for all ages the slides were awesome

This place is so fun! We've been a few times and each time the kids have a blast. Staff is always friendly and helpful too

Wow. Just amazing. I am having a ball here. Banana slide is scary be careful. Mmmm yummy pickles.

Fantastic experience. Amazing pizza, served fresh and the best cheese. The kids had a wonderful time. Fair prices, the only thing was some of the older kids games sucked up a lot of tokens to play. Professional upbeat staff made for a great time.

We had an alright time. The staff at the front counter were a little pushy trying to get us through as quick as possible. We spent a few hours climbing through the tunnels which were a pretty tight fit even for me and Im not big. My daughter and I had a good time and the staff serving food were more courtious and nice. Its a bit odd to not allow drinks past the dining area but they have a water fountain with a refill station but it doesnt refill water. We stayed in the play area cause im not a fan of the

First time here. It was cool. A lot for the kids to do. It's dark inside a lot of the attraction which makes it hard to maneuver. And it was kinda dirty... Like ya don't know when the last time they wiped anything down dirty

Such a fun place to bring the kids. Lots for them explore and play. This is a good value because there is no time limit like the trampoline parks. Pictures don't do the play space justice. There are cat walks and tunnels connecting everything so there is plenty to keep kids occupied. Parents can play too, but the spaces are tight for adults.

It had a lot of places for my 5 year old to play. The toddler zone for my 1 year old was not set up well. There was a Caterpillar he could crawl through and a movable toy on wall. Besides that the path to get to the toddler zone was a nightmare they have a merry go round in the middle of the path so it's very difficult to get a stroller into toddler zone which doesn't make a lot of sense. It's great for kids 4 and up but for the little ones I wouldn't recommend until they add more to it.

This place is great. We came to the Phoenix area to visit our grandkids. We needed to wear them out!!! So we choose here. For parents with young/toddlers go during the week....open area and plenty of space for them to be them. I only gave 4 stars because the food was subpar. Service and expectations were reached and will come again.

Great fun place for kids, even adults. Patents sit back, relax while kids play

Staff is super friendly. My son had a lot of fun here.!

This place is amazing. I remember coming as a kid and I loved it and now both my 11 month old and 11 year old boys love this place. There is so many things for them to do.

This is an underrated gem! Kid loves it here and they have seating/TV with chargers for adults to lounge. Games are winnable with fun prizes that change often. Unlimited frogger rides, monthly passes, and parties are available, too.

We went during the week in the late afternoon and it was really calm and clean! Good service and our little one had a blast! Will be returning!

So where to begin the first half the park was totally awesome I took my three-year-old granddaughter there and she had an absolute blast there is so much to do there it's not even funny they have I guess you would call it a jungle gym that is literally half the size of the roof I do not know where one part started any other end it my granddaughter would go in One side and come out on the other side of the building it was awesome the reason why I only gave it a four star even know the park itself was awesome

Lively place to let a child run and play, small enough to sit and rest while the children release all that youthful energy. The space is compact but goes up about 3 stories with lots of places to explore and climb, there's a space set aside for little ones to play safely, and the big area has lots of room to run for the older kids. Lots of slides to find and hidden passageways, finding your way to and through the attraction is half the fun! We noticed a distinct urine smell in the bathrooms, besides that

Great place to spend a quality time with our kids! It was my daughter's first time and she didnt want to leave the place! Price is pretty reasonable unlike other places. Definitely, we will come back!

This is such an awesome place for kids!! It's literally a indoor tree house with tons of tunnels and places high up to explore. They also have an arcade and a cafe with good food and adult beverages. They have a great birthday party package and the location is easy to see from the road! What a great place to bring kids and let them run around and explore!

Meh not worth it for the price since they raised their prices. My kids have fun for about an hour and then want to go home. It's also not the cleanest or well kept. Restrooms are pretty disgusting.

Got here at 1020 and had absolutely no wait, the place was fairly empty so the kids had the whole place to themselves. I have been coming here since I was a kid and I love that it has upgraded in games, but all the play areas are the same. Makutus island is one of my all time favs & I always recommend my friends to bring their kiddos. Fun for all ages!!

Great place to spend our day over Spring Break. Very little crowd. Definitely geared for smaller kids, more challenging for adults to get around.

Quite an enjoyable place for all kids. There is a lot more playground built in than you can't see. Both play area for 3 and under and the main area for over 3. You can let your kids run here for hours and they won't be bored. Slides ramps ropes and more. Small fish tank adds a nice touch. Arcade is pay to play but all of the rest of the building is open with admission.

Had my son?s 3rd birthday here nothing planned, just a few friends and family and they allowed us to bring an outside cake in. Staff was super friendly , professional, courteous and informative. I had my daughter?s 3rd birthday party here 3 years prior. This place is highly recommended Vs the jump and Trampoline venues. Special thanks to Michael L, Caleb H, Jacob G and Ruby W, all were great and deserve raise?s and promotions immediately.

My 4 year loves to explore, she finds a new area every time! Tons of space and things to do.

WOW!!!!This place is our new favorite place! I brought my 5 yr old grandson and I don't think I've ever seen him have so much fun! So unique!! Love it!!

Pro ? Very fun for children. Saturday's are extremely busy. (FYI- Groupon's are not valid on Saturday) The staff seem to enjoy the job; eager to help, always smiling & interacting well with all the children. They have a Toddler Area for 3 & under. Its monitored to ensure toddlers are the only children allowed. They have a cafe with pizzas, appetizers, soda, juices, and adult beverages. It's a bit pricey but beverages that are self serve are unlimited free refills. Lockers are also offered for your belonging

My 4 yr old and 5 yr old spent a solid 4 hrs here and still weren't ready to leave . The selfie you take with your group makes you feel more secure than other similar play places and they DO check your selfie when you leave . There was a few issues w out of order arcade games but to be expected w kids running around trying to play with no cards . It's just the nature not everyone of them will be up and running but majority 80% .. they also had unique arcade games . The food was really good crispy curly frie

Wanted to try something new with my niece and nephew saw this place on line it looked very cool so thought we would try it we got there and we were the only people in there (that should have been my first red flag) my nephew did nothing but cry the whole time because he was scared we had to use our cell phone light to climb through the tunnels I hate being one of these people but I did ask for a refund they gave me my money back for my nephew and and not my niece was not worth to drive and not worth the mo

Very entertaining fpr children 6 thru 12. They do have a toddler are which is off to the side but its very basic. The rest of the structure is amazing with lots of hide spots and climbing to do. Great placr to wind down kids.

We took the niece for her 9th birthday and she had a blast. The food was solid (for a kid's place, but had some specialties worth trying) and the play area is large enough for adults to work through with the younger ones.

First time their and my kids lived it. Would go back again. Its a bit dark in some places and the bathrooms were out of service. Bad timing I guess. Snack bar food was good the fries were excellent. Over all good experience.

Loved this place. Great for family time. Even fantastic fun pass add more value to the experience. Kiki?s cafe complete the experience in with good variety of food.

My wife has always told me about this place and how much fun she had here growing up. We took our daughter here for the first time and she loved it! The staff are all so friendly and helpful!

Best place to ever take your kids! It's a blast for children and parents

Great for birthday parties and any time you want to spend a full day just letting your kids run around and have fun!

Sadly you can't leave and come back but other than that, it's a great spot for the kiddos.

It was nice place for my kids to run around and play for a couple hours. However, when we went to the cafe the cookies and donut holes were slightly burnt. We mentioned it to one of the workers and the response was, in a slightly rude tone, "that's how it comes out of the oven, there's nothing we can do." Also, at least 6 of the tables in the cafe were still dirty from previous guests and no one was bothering to clean up. One of the other cafe workes did take our trash to the bins for us, and the kids had f

I just took my toddler there and she had ?the best day ever?. She loved the toddler area, especially the arcade merry-go-round. She even went on some of the bigger slides. The staff was so kind and made her experience special. We will be back with friends.

This place is literally the best for kids ?.. and adults. I thought I'd be watching my niece from afar yet I found my self at the top of the tree. 10/10

Fun place to get out of the heat !!! Pics are the buffalo fries and fried pickles. The seating for parents are benches with no backs. (See 3rd pic) My almost 13 year old 7th grader got bored pretty quick? he played for 40 minutes and says he can go through the whole place in 10 minutes but my younger kids really enjoyed it!

Very fun and lively, they have a nice party area but it's not very kid friendly with safety so I recommend 12+.

My 3 year old loves carousel rides. The carousel here is tiny, one like you'd see at a mall, and this one had a serious squeak. The bungee ride was not working at all. The staff was excellent. It was crazy loud since 10-noon during TNT time a bunch (50?) of Gilbert VIK Camp kids were in attendance. Lots of yelling and screaming. Since it's toddler hours I didn't expect older kids to be there. The staff recognizes the issue for toddlers and definitely tried to limit the big kids from entering the toddler ar

Great place for children of various ages to play. And the older children can run around the upstairs while the smaller on the level. Lots of games, great prizes and clean space. The food was reasonably priced and really good. We ordered chicken tenders, corn dogs and Mac n cheese

Most play areas are not for anyone under 5. Lots of adults just walking around drinking beers. Smaller than I expected. Took forever to get in. Staff not very helpful. Pizza not very good either. Eating area not cleaned very often. Pricing reasonable. But you dont really get much.

Oh my goodness! How have I not gone to this place sooner with my son! It is simply fantastic! The atmosphere is so kid and parent friendly! The food was so amazing! They gave us a big bang for our buck for lunch, and the staff were so incredibly nice, patient, helpful and very knowledgeable! I was really impressed that they were continually cleaning and sanitizing the chairs, seats, ladders and anything the kids came in contact with! It's more than just some little play place; definitely one of our new favo

My daughter loves this places ! We were here last December for a bday and it was ok but this year they've added so much! It's amazing! Definitely top quality and clean!

It's great to have a diverse play environment for the little ones in air conditioned comfort when it's 110+ outside. They even have a cafe with pizza, wings, and beer.

My son loves this place. His first time here and he can't get enough. I appreciate the great price and also the safety precautions they have here.

Makutu's Island just keeps getting better and better. My son absolutely loves going there. We've celebrated birthdays a few times and it's a hit every time. The new Frog Hopper ride is fantastic! The kids love it. The unlimited rides pass is definitely worth it. Even with the soaring temperature outside, it was very cool and comfortable inside the play area. The food is good, especially the chicken wings and fries. The fountain drinks are unlimited so it's a great value when you spend most of the day there.

Makutu's Island is a blast with the kids! It's like a jungle adventure indoors. They have awesome slides, tunnels, and a huge play area. My little ones couldn't stop smiling. Plus, it's safe, and there's even a caf? for snacks. If you're looking for a fun day out with the kiddos, this place is a winner!

Great place to spend the day with kids. Its clean and the kids love it. Definitely take my son again or having his Birthday there.

Awesome place to play for kids. The way it is designed is amazing and has amazing games to play. They also have food and it's a fun place to spend your time all day.

We had a great time time for my son's birthday with his cousin :) The place is wonderful for kids of all ages to climb, zip line, slide, run, crawl, walk, etc. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we ended up buying 2 shirts. I would have given 5 stars, but it was so hot in there and none of the fans were on. The kids need air in the tops of the trees and tunnels! Also, please lower the price for the bouncy trampoline thing. C'mon.

My 6 yr olds had a blast visiting their first time. We will definitely be back. With a Groupon it was $30 for 2 kids and 2 adults and unlimited play.

The kids loved it. Some things I could even follow the kids in. Wore them out! We will be back. Bring cash change if you want to sit in a massage chair while your kids play. They claim to be cashless, yet the massage chairs only accept cash. Get a massage chair with a credit card reader then.

A place of childhood dreams and wonder. Perfect for my six year old and her same aged friend. They disappeared into tunnels and ran like banshees. For safety, the staff monitor the exits and only allow the entire group to exit with the children, evidenced by a safety photo taken upon check-in. Later, us moms got bored and took to climbing into the tunnels. We fit everything (barely at some parts), got some adventure, and found our kids. It didn't have that scrubbed clean feel - on a late Saturday afternoon

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Why are arcade prize games so exciting to play?

Arcade prize games are a thrilling highlight in 2025! Claw machines, skee-ball, and ticket-redemption games like basketball offer a rush of skill and chance, with rewards like plushies, toys, or electronics up for grabs. Modern machines feature vibrant lights, digital scoreboards, and responsive controls, amplifying the fun. The lively arcade atmosphere, with cheering crowds and buzzing energy, makes every win feel epic.
