The cheapest bowling, food, and drinks you can find in the area. Definitely a dated location, but what bowling alley isn't. I love La Ru and my friends and I started coming here weekly. Makes a great date night or a family fun day. They also have a touch tunes and surprisingly good speakers/bass throughout the lanes.
Recently visited this location. Overall it was good. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The lanes were good. Was a smaller location then i normally go to. The $4 red cups with free refills were nice. Would say the only downside was they didn't have any food to order. So as long as you bring your own snacks (but not drinks) your fine. Other then that the only issue was the bathrooms needed work. Only 1 of 3 workable stalls.
My family gathered here to celebrate my aunt Shirley's life. We had food, 4 lanes & drinks which came with whatever arrangements my cousin made with them. Everyone that work there was very nice kind and caring. They were also very patient because they were busy with their normal clientele that evening. The place is older and small but we had a great time and the lanes were really good for as old as they are.
Easily the cheapest bowling I've found in the tristate area. Their ball returns/pin setters can be a little wonky at times, but hey it's a bowling alley these things happen, and when they do LaRue is always nice enough to move us to new lane quickly and throw a little more time on the clock so we can get all of our games in.
I recently visited this bowling alley with my family and friends and had a fantastic time! The lanes were well-maintained and the atmosphere was lively and fun. The bar had a great selection of decently priced drinks and the bartender was friendly and entertaining. My friends and I also had a blast playing pool on the pool table while we waited to bowl. Overall, this is a great place to spend a family outing or a night out with friends. Highly recommend!
2nd year in a row we have gone there for a family gathering because the person who plans the gatherings feels it centralized for all who attend. The staff is helpful. No pro shop if you need anything. The lanes need work, don't expect to slide even a little bit on your approach. When you go to plant your foot, you will come to a dead stop.
Seemed to spend more time waiting for them to fix the lanes than actually bowling.
Took my kid bowling for his first time here. Very friendly staff.. Easy going atmosphere.
We go to La Ru Bowling every month for a family league and it is always a very enjoyable time. The staff always does an excellent job of taking care of all our needs. It is a non-smoking building so you can go bowling with your family and enjoy a night out, cosmic bowling on Saturday Nights as well or join one of their leagues during the week.
La ru was a phenomenal place to bring the family to for the day. My daughters had a blast. The staff was inviting, polite, and always there to help. The center was a clean and fun environment to be in. Bowling was enjoyable had everything needed to have fun Bowling from my 5 yrs old to even my 15 year old teenage had an excellent. Highly recommend it
Katie and John have done a lot of work to make this place very welcoming and user-friendly. Prices are reasonable, and the facility is non-smoking. Don't worry, smokers, there is a nice, covered picnic area where you can smoke, too.
Always creating fun short leagues. The owners are very involved with the patrons. Great place, great people!
I guess considering the age of the place it was all right. Very small on the inside but that's just what it is. Can use some updating. The staff seemed okay. Was there for my niece's birthday party. We had probably a dozen kids in total not including their parents.
Everyone was friendly and welcoming thankyou will definitely be back
Had an impromptu birthday party for my son at La Ru yesterday and they were so nice and accommodating . The young guys working the counter and bar at the time were super friendly and helpful.
Appreciate the smoke free atmosphere. Family friendly, we took our Youth Group for a daytime cosmic Bowling event. Everyone had a great time. We had misunderstood pricing and the staff was accommodating to help rectify. We will definitely be back!
We love going to la ru lanes. My 8 year old twins and I love the friendly owners and staff. Also, we love that there is no smoking. The owners are so nice and accommodating to my children. They never seem aggravated by us switching shoes, lanes, or asking for the light balls for the kids. They also participate in the kids bowl free program which I'm sure is a hassle, but it is a wonderfully inexpensive way to take your kids bowling in the summer! We appreciate that it is so family friendly!
This bowling alley has changed so much for the better since the new owners have taken over. Opening up the space by remodeling the bar and the seating areas around the lane makes it feel less crowded and it is so much cleaner and well run. The non smoking atmosphere is so much nicer and the new owners and current staff are incredibly friendly and helpful.
Took the grands yesterday for a distraction and to stay out of the 90+ degree summer afternoon. The front desk staff were very nice and helped us with shoes and setting gutter guards for our little bowlers, and made clear that there are no credits given for unused play. The place was clean and the whole set up makes it super-easy to move through a game with the auto scoring system and gutter guards that are automated based on player info we provided to the front desk folks. We did see that there is a bar sc
First time ever bowling here today. We ended up doing 4 people in the all you can bowl. Which had a time limit, that we didn't really know about until the end. Definitely took some getting used to the lanes. A pretty good price for bowling though and not really crowded yet.
Best lil bowling alley in Kentucky, 1960s feel is pristine ??????!!!!
Went in to bowl and have a good time. Paid and was getting ready to bowl and got kicked out because they over booked a league and had no room for us. Don't say you have open bowl and take peoples money if you don't have open bowl. This is not the first time La Ru has done this. Worst people to deal with. I will not be back. Was given attitude by some of the staff. Some staff members were nice. This place is pathetic.
This is a very nice 16 lane bowling alley with a great bar. What really makes this place... ...the ownership and the staff. We have two special needs children and they came down to give pro tips on how to bowl. They were amazing. It was all I could do to hold back the tears of joy. Our boys aren't able to do a lot due to their limitations and now they have found their sport.....bowling! Thank you so much! You are wonderful people.
My family came here to bowl on a Tuesday night. (Not a busy night) Prepaid for two games. We had to leave early and didn't ask for a refund, just a gift card so we could bowl later. The owners were there and refused. Said we we had to bowl now or lose it. Seems a little odd. I could never imagine running my business this way. Anyhow, this was our experience. We have been here quit a few times, but next time we will drive a little farther. Poor customer service rarely pays, even when it does p
Cannot speak highly enough about La Ru + the new management there!!!! Clean, friendly, great service. The family is so kind and generous and supportive of a special needs bowling league that my brother is a part of. They are just so thoughtful to all patrons. My family will support this bowling alley so long as we are in NKY. Thank you all!
We came with 12 family members. Had some younger kids and my mom paid special for everyone. We played 3 out of 4 games. It was getting late so we asked for a credit so we can return and play a game another day. We watched the employees go ask the owner who was there that night as well bowling, he adamantly refused, even I know this was poor service on the owner?s part and I'm only 15 but well over old enough to understand that.
Change is good, in order to stay in business and keep a staple in the community running change is needed. That is exactly what the new ownership is doing WHILE maintaining the character that La Ru is known for. It is a great place to learn to bowl, it's an accepting environment for beginners while also being well maintained to operate for higher levels of play. I've been bowling at La Ru Lanes for almost 2 decades. It's my go-to bowling alley when I'm in the area. I use La Ru as my standard to determine whe
Clean, great atmosphere awesome staff. The owners are super friendly and work hard to create unique events and bowling leagues. The bartender that bartends in the evening is super friendly and very attentive to the bars needs. The wonderful owners, staff, and patrons keep me coming back.
Over worked and Understaffed by kid. Don't expect much.
I cant say enough great things about La Ru. The staff, the atmosphere, the owners,...its such a fun family friendly place that is super affordable for the whole family! I'm originally from Louisville, Ky and have lived in the area for about 6 months and this place makes me feel right at home. This is definitely my go to place to stop in and just have a drink or bowl a few games. Thank you La Ru!
We came with 12 family members and paid for 4 games. We all have small kids and it was getting late. We requested a gift certificate to come back for the 4th game. Employees went and asked the owner who was there bowling. And he absolutely refused. Won't be back. Very poor customer service. My brothers would never treat customers this way at their local very very profitable company. We will take our business to Newport which is waaay nicer and excellent customer service!
Had a great time. The no smoking was amazing and even though my bowling game left a lot to be desired the bar was well stocked and the music was great. It isn't the typical bowling alley - it is very clean and everyone is very accommodating. Definitely coming back with my family.
Came here with 12 of my family members. We bowled 3/4 games we paid for and asked for a credit for the last game rather than playing it because it was getting late, and we come here often. They went directly to the owner (who happened to be bowling too), andhe refused. Pretty ridiculous for the amount of money we had spent considering we have been here multiple times with large groups. We don't plan to return with the utter disregard for a simple request from long time customers. I recommend visiting a bowl
I've lived in NKY for 30 years and have never been here. Was looking for open bowling on a Thursday afternoon and they had some lanes. The lanes are very well kept and up to date, the prices were about $3 a game ($37 and some change for 12 games, which I think is good). There is a little bit of a remnant of smoke smell, but I'm a non smoker and it didn't bother me at all. It's a bowling alley with a bar, so... I had no trouble with the staff. Actually, my pin setter had an issue once and before I reali
I bowl here for special Olympics and with family in league. Love this place. Always have fun
Nice, small bowling alley. Good drinks and friendly staff, but the by-hour bowling rates is annoying since you can't finish your games.
Our church had a great day bowling. Sounds of victory church of God. LaRu was very clean the bathroom was very clean also very helpful with all our needs. I can't bowl or my husband we just watched and routed our church family on. We only maybe go here once or twice a year we always have a blessed time. The church provides pizza and dessert. Pizza hut delivered. God bless
The owners at LaRu went out of their way for us. Great people - Salt of the earth folks. Looking forward to returning.
The spot is so good. Hidden Jim and now under new ownership they have very affordable pricing and a good vibe. Their smoked meat for the Super Bowl was some of the best food I've ever had in my life!
Super friendly, helped us sign up for kids free bowling AND gave the kids some popcorn. The young man was super helpful and even brought us a better size ball for the kids.
I would've made it a higher score, but this place still allows smoking inside and I hate smelling disgusting when I leave there. And being highly allergic to smoke makes the time there bowling really difficult to have fun. But the place is fairly cool and clean. Just not a fan of smoking inside.
Not a great experience. I would not recommend this place. I was once told by a business consultant, "bad experiences that are made right create very loyal customers. Even more loyal customers then just a good experience does" Well they made an experience worse by the choice of the owner. It's choices like this that make people drive 20 minutes past your business to your competitor, just out of spite.
I've always enjoyed bowling here, but tonight, bringing my children here, and having the ownership and staff interact with us, coaching my children, brought me to tears. We will be back again and again, and I think my boys have a sport they can play and love! In large part to the owners. Thank you!
Used to love this alley, everyone was nice but we couldn't bowl when we got there because the person at the desk said his boss wanted to close early. Seems like an odd way to run a business!
Bowled in a St Elizabeth benefit there & just would like to say the business was nice, but the Guy behind the shoe counter & the Lady behind the counter were AWESOME !!!
Great alley and atmosphere just make sure to call before you go, there hours online don't match the actual hours, and don't go until they answer your calls
Bryson was very attentive and helpful throughout my whole experience. Recommended to family and friends. Had a wonderful time
What an awesome bowling alley. We moved to the area just a few months ago so this was our first visit. We went to a family open cosmic bowling and even signed up for a league! Great little find!!
Love this place. It is small but up to date lanes. The owner Glen is a nice guy who will make sure you have an enjoyable time. Nice little bar area for a few beverages afterwards.
Paid for 4 games, got to play only 3. Asked the manager to refund one game or give us a gift certificate for next time for our unpaid game and they declined to do either! Very frustrating. Lost our whole group as customers in the future!
Love to bowl here and hang out! The drinks are a great price and the price to bowl is great, too! The owners are kind and care about the community.
Lots of things to say. First and foremost the balls don't have numbers for the weight. Second, the men who run the place are creepy and were perving on the girls in our group for the whole game. The balls are super greasy and the rails are really flimsy and they were worried that we would break them. They are rude at the counter too.
Their leagues are great with good people. The weekend cosmic bowl is always a good time. Definitely call and reserve a lane though because they are busy most of the weekend.
I love to bowl but we went on a Sunday with the kids at noon. $7,00 per hour per person. 5 per lane. For $14.00 per person we got two games in. A bit too expensive.
We asked for the bumpers to be put up they said no. We asked again later and they said no. Then they said we should be embrassed that we asked for them to be put up. So we decided to leave and our bill was ~22$ so I said can you divide it by 7 and he said your the one in school you do it. Overall the employees are really rude, and I highly recommend you go somewhere else.
Couldn't find anywhere to bowl but here. It was a very nice but small bowling alley.. they were playing live music and doing karaoke. We had a good time as a family bowling and a few drinks ?? ??
Really nice people with a good bowling alley
The 2 people there when we went were very rude. They refused to put the bumpers down for me and my friends after asking multiple times. We all aren't that great at bowling, and all we got was gutter shots the whole time. We left half way through the first game, and still made us pay even after how rude they were. I was not pleased with there customer service at all, and I WILL NOT be going there again.
Hands down the best bowling place I've been to. The lanes are not warped. And they have good deals for weekend bowling. And they have black lights for a more fun experience. And there's plenty of all sizes of bowling balls
Friendly staff good Lanes, if they were like a smoking section would make it a lot better as an asthmatic makes it kind of hard to bowl sometime . However each time I been there was a good experience aside from the smoke
Paid for 4 games 12 people, bowled 3 and had to leave early. Then wouldn't refund us the one game. Second time we had a bad experience here. 2 is enough for us
New owners are great. We went to celebrate a birthday party and ended up closing the place down. We will be back!
Smells like smoke all the time and seems shady but the bowling alleys work fine. I recommend only small group of people there because they don't have very many lanes
Our church had an outing here. It was fun to watch we didn't play because of my disability but it was fun to watch our friends from church. God bless
Great place to go bowling at a reasonable price. Employees are very helpful and professional.
Great spot to bowl! Good service and the place was very clean and well maintained by the staff.
Good times with friends and family. League bowling or cosmic bowl is the only way to go. Glen and the gang keep up on all equipment. Great time.
Good place to have fun and get some drinks with friends. I would give 5 stars, but you're still allowed to smoke inside this place ??
It was a great experience for what it is. It is a small local bowling alley that has bowling lanes, a bar and a small arcade. But some technical problems.
Great lanes, bar area, n customer service! Bret at the front desk was excellent n went beyond helping us throughout the evening!
Went around 1pm on a Friday, place was empty and we had a good time. Only went with one other person, but there's plenty of seats for each lane, and a small selection of draft beers.
Great experience, clean and friendly. Had a great time with the family. This place is definitely adding to community
Had my kiddos bday party here and they were so accommodating and friendly, absolutely will do it again
La Ru Lanes Is Awesome ??Alley Highlands Heights Kentucky . But It's Always Smokey And Its Tiny, . La Ru Lanes Is Awesome Fun Amazing . Good Times ~La Ru Lanes~
Had fun tonight. They played some good adult music.
Very friendly staff!
Waited 2 hours to bowl when told it would be 20 mins. Had people on a wait list but kept letting people already bowling by more games. Wasted my time on a Saturday night.
They were the nicest and most helpful and everything was clean great experience over all
Great atmosphere. No more smoking is deffinately bonus. Super nice staff!
Go to Super Bowl Bellewood. Not kid friendly at all. Very disappointed with our experience.
good bowling alley but i did see a spider on the approach. he crawled inside my bowling ball and we became friends
Great atmosphere. Staff is very friendly and accommodating.
Was a blast from the past! Great time, good music, a great way to enjoy a good family night out.
Had a great time all the people there are friendly kids were welcome and had a good time bowling
Just a fun small alley
Great place to take the kids on a Friday night always enjoy the friendly staff in the modern equipment look forward to my next visit.
Great place. Very nice. Owners are the best. Would recommend!
Decent place it's clean, beer was cheap however they only play tacky music so yeah..
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
