Reviews Summary

JP's on City Island is overwhelmingly praised for its fresh, delicious seafood (especially king crab legs and shrimp), generous portions, and strong drinks. The owner, John, receives frequent compliments for his warm hospitality and personal attention. Many highlight the excellent service, welcoming atmosphere, and waterfront views. While most reviews are glowing 5-star ratings, a few mention occasional issues like construction, inconsistent waitstaff, or cleanliness concerns. The restaurant's retro vibe, garlic bread, and celebratory treatment (like free items for birthdays) are recurring positives. Customer Reviews

JP's still doing it well after all these years. Our first date here 37 years ago before moving out of state. Returned for our 35th ANNIVERSARY. Dinner was incredible, John treated my wife and I so wonderfully on our anniversary. Maureen (Mo), our server, was excellent and made sure to make our dinner outing special on our day. What a polite and caring young lady( your parents did well)!!! God's willing we will be back next year (Florida)...THANK YOU JP's!!

You get what you pay for. The best shrimp I've had in over 10 years and I'm not kidding. Had the shrimp cocktail ( legit jumbo shrimp ) and shrimp scampi and still can't believe how fresh and tasty it was, much better than 90% of other places I get shrimp from. Owner is very nice and sociable. Service was outstanding. 10/10 rating overall

Located in the back corner of City Island, it is hidden by the restaurant. Let's first of all talk about one thing, this place is pricey. Eating here is not cheap, and they know it considering the warnings littering the entertaining advising visitors to go somewhere else if they want more affordable food. Which I find to be both hilarious and quite honest. That aside let's talk about the parking. The parking lot is very cramped, and the approach of the road isn't the easiest with an automobile. Let's talk

1st off, don't be discouraged by the construction going on go around it's worth it! The food was delicious and great portions! As the sign says when you walk this place isn't a cheap eats but again worth it I'm definitely coming back!

Great place a person told me to come here best on city island and I did . Owner John very friendly recommend dishes and we're great . Melissa great and beautiful server

I have been coming to JP's restaurant now for many years, first with my parents and grandparents and now with my friends. My latest visit on June 13, 2024 did not disappoint. Their famous garlic bread is so good you cannot stop eating it even when you order an appetizer and an entree. It's just so delicious! I had the fried calamari as an appetizer and it tasted great. Our waitress was very pleasant and helpful in giving good recommendations about the food as far as what dishes to get since they were undeci

The owner was extremely professional and welcoming, and the food was fresh and delicious. Our overall experience was good, though our waitress definitely lacked professionalism, which took away from the vibe a little. Other than that, I'd still recommend trying this place!

Went for dinner and received stellar service. Angie, our server, was the best! She is knowledgeable and helpful. John is a great host and awesome bartender. As the menu says "You only need one" ??The food is fresh and delicious with HUGE portions. We will be back. Thank you again.

First time going to JP's The food is just phenomenal The crab meat is the best I've ever had. The food is a must everything great. I highly recommend this establishment. Service is very good very hospitable. Best of all when the whole island is jammed JP's is the place to be. The view from outside is beautiful. You can see Orchard beach from the out door seating. Beautiful views.

FOOD IS ALWAYS FRESH AND WELL SEASONED. Been coming here for years. One of the only restaurants on the island that i do go to. Never thought to leave a review, but I happened to notice that somebody recently left a bad one, and I figure that I can balance that out with a good one. The food is simple and good. Perfectly seasoned and always fresh. Big portions of good food with a restaurant owner that takes pride in his product will keep me coming back so long as he's there.

The Best! Food fresh and delicious Service was amazing. I wish I could give more than 5 stars.

As we were looking for nearby places to eat we happened across this gem on google. Right on the water so I know the views of the waves during the daytime would be amazing. We had no idea what to get because everything sounded amazing. But when we did get our food, just WOW! The portions are huge and well worth the trip. The owner was nice and they had plenty of seats for large and small parties. I would definitely go back again.

Aside from the ignorance of the owner, the server was amazing, and I didn't expect the pasta portion to be so much. I would like to note that the restroom was rank. It smells like a swamp, dirty fishtank, or marshland. I had to try to hold my breath. I felt like I was on a dirty pirate ship based on the movies I've seen. They could use a lot more TLC in that department. If you're very particular about cleanliness, I wouldn't recommend this place. They seem to be oblivious to the natural ways to clean. I wo

We stumbled upon JP?s by accident due to lack of parking at a nearby restaurant. It turned out to be a great decision! Their paella for 2 people is big enough for 6, beautifully seasoned and the chef is very generous with the seafood! You get a whole lobster and lots of sea scallops, clams, mussels and shrimp. Highly recommended!

I've been to this restaurant a few years back but wanted to check it out again on a Friday night. We were welcomed by the owner who was very attentive and nice. Our waitress came to us very quickly and took our drink order. The menu has a lot of options so you may need to time to order but the food was worth every penny. I just ate the rest today.. large portion and let me tell you my drink ?!!! Was amazing baby!! I felt a little buz buz! Definitely worth the $20. I had a blue margarita and my company had

I've been going to place for the last ten years. The food was always good with sizeable portions. Drinks are very good. The place is old fashioned and unique in my eyes. Servers are always pleasant.

If you know, then you know. If you want great food you have to be prepared to spend good money. Quality and respect comes with this price. Don't forget to ask about the "King crab legs" because it's not on the menu.....so you'll understand my review from top to bottom ?????????

This is the only restaurant that I eat at in city Island. The food is delicious and fresh very flavorful in big portions. The garlic bread omg!! Every time I come here my family and I leave happy! They are crab legs are so filling!! The jumbo shrimp Are the fresh shrimp I've ever had. I recommend the shrimp stuffed with crab meat. You will thank me for it

What a great place for a celebration! My family went to celebrate my birthday! The atmosphere was cozy,, the food was delicious, our waitress was extremely attentive and the owner John was so gracious! We had a ball,, and we're are all in agreement... reserve a table and enjoy!!!

Hot fresh seafood with a great view. Perfect for my sister?s graduation dinner with family last week. I had the stuffed shrimp it was AMAZING. Staff were great. 10/10!!!!!

I like to tell the owner John thank you for His Hospitality and for the cheesecake. Service was awesome love the waitress ! That took care of us. Lobster was good . The shrimp Was nice size fresh right out the sea. I want to thank J p's again for the hospitality will return. Sincerely ,Sassy

Good food but still has that stench in there. Responding to the owner. Like I said the food is good ask your other customers. This is the route you take to respond as the owner? Nice. Constructive criticism Is what it is. Sad that ppl will see your response to a customer!

It was great, the food is amazing. You get your money worth. They serve big plates which basically if your very hungry you will be full. Juicy and overall tasty. The staff is very friendly and really nice and helpful. The owner is such a nice man and very welcoming and friendly. Definitely recommend thank you guys for your great service.

I came here about two times, and I want to say the food was decent;however,I won't be coming back due to the fact the waiter, who goes by the name of Angie served me BURNT BREAD TWICE. I mean,if you want to attract people to the restaurant, please treat them with LOVE. She knew she was serving me burnt bread, and by the look on her face, she knew she was wrong. Also,my husband complained about how nasty the male bathroom was. I have to say, walking to the Women?s restroom,I smelled pure piss, and it disgusted me.

I have been going to JPsfor over 25 years. Same owner, he is very friendly, quality wild caught seafood, always fresh. A bit on the pricey side but very well worth it. The portions are huge. The platter for 2 can feed 4 easily.

HEY JP. THIS IS AMERICA AND GOOGLE ASK FOR MY REVIEW. THE TRUTH MAY CAUSE OFFENSE BUT ITS STILL THE TRUTH. DID GOOGLE ASK U TO REVIEW ME AFTER ME AND A GROUP SPENT 400$ AT YOUR TRASH ESTABLISHMENT for garbage food? NO they didn't and yes I have time to prevent future possible patrons from a horrendous experience saving customers one review at a time . Hopefully you look better mote presentable for the folks that gave 5 stars. Please do better . The owner had his jeans hanging off him and his boxers exposed

Been coming here for years never disappointment you get what you pay for quality and quantity amazing.

Came for a graduation/ birthday dinner. Food is over priced. In the menu on top of each page in big blue letters it says add an additional 5 dollars to the already overly priced food. Rice tasted like it was microwaved, crab stuffing was so salty i couldn't eat it at all. Before I went in I looked at the reviews and one stuck out to me. Every thing Mr. Murphy said was correct to the T. Service was amazing. My server ?Mo? was the best. No order was messed up and she was very friendly. Price around 50-70 dol

The staff is always nice. They just need to update the restaurant and definitely the food. The food tastes like it is cooked from frozen food. I want to say better, because I remember going here in the 80's and 90's. **This is my update since the OWNER of JP's decided to come for me. Sir/Ma'am - I'm sorry that you feel my review is bogus. I DID come into your establishment because of your coupon - because I like to save a dollar!! However, I will instead go back to the people I sent your coupon out to and

J.p?s City Island is hands down one of the best spots around! From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The vibe is perfect?whether you're looking for a chill night out or a fun date spot, it never disappoints. The owner, John, is an incredible person who truly cares about his customers and makes everyone feel like family. The service is always top-notch?attentive, friendly, and professional. You can tell that the staff takes pride in what they do. Every time my gir

The food is amazing, and JP, the owner, is so sweet and it shows how much he truly loves what he does. You want quality, you have to pay for quality! I think the prices are fair for what you get and the memory of such amazing food, will want to keep you coming back! Thank you JP, love it here.

Ok... So u need to come here! No question, the service was pleasant and caring. The drinks where perfect. The waitress Melissa was amazing. Ok now on to the king crab legs, what else is there to say, the crab was some of the freshest I have eaten. Every bite was a piece of heaven. I literally felt like I was a king eating this. There is no question about it, this is a hot spot! I look forward to coming back and I haven't even left yet!

Fresh delicious seafood! A little pricey, but worth it! The servers were friendly and helpful. The garden salad is very old school along with decor, however the water front view, especially during sundown is worth the extra money! They are not skimpy on the alcohol in the mixed drinks. I would most definitely be returning in the future

The waitress was kind and attentive. This was my first time coming here and I do like the restaurants aesthetic, very maritime/nautical. I had the stuffed flounder with shrimp, on the menu it didn't say what it was stuffed with. I asked the waitress ?is this stuffed with just shrimp? she said yes, she was wrong. I believe it was crab meat, it was pretty gross but the flounder and shrimp were good. The rice was also underwhelming, I know what you're thinking ?it's rice?.. exactly. This rice had an odd taste

If you want real legit sea food. This is the first place to go. Most ppl have no idea what they are consuming. U want real sea food this is the only place to go on the island. I eat here at least 4 days a week. Don't be fooled by any bad reviews or these so called restaurants on the island.

The place is not the most beautiful, but the food is delish. I had the shrimp stuffed with crab meat, and omg...soooo good. And that garlic bread.. that's some dangerously delicious stuff. I also had a Cosmo and it was pretty good. The servers were excellent as well.

First time here. Amazing I love the food and the owner was so comforting during this hard time it was nice to see his waitress happy to work and serve customers Feels warm and comforting love the pictures and originality. WORTH THE PRICE AND MORE. BEST SEAFOOD OF MY LIFE. The shrimp was fresh. You can taste the difference. I finally know real seafood. 10 out of 5 stars.

This was my second time visiting JP's. Food is amazing! Decor is very unique. It has a sort of retro vibe to it. Staff is always super friendly. My cousin got a free t-shirt from the owner. You can't go wrong with JP's. Next time you're by City Island, Please visit. You won't regret it. The drinks are great too. They'll sneak up on you.....??????????

I have loved this place for over 15 years. The food never disappoints, and the views are breathtaking! John is the ultimate host/owner and I always have a great time when I come here.

Fantabulous !!! What amazing service by the.hostess and server. The food was fresh, tasty and delish . Omg must try stuffed flounder with shrimp and crabmeat, shrimp scampi, fried shrimp. Good portions and huge shrimps.

This place was empty when we arrived, quickly seated and forgotten about. The menu is overwhelming when you see pricing I think it's a little over the top average plate is going to run you about $30 don't bring your kids unless you expect to spend $40 on each of their plates (Ridiculous) king crab legs are the best deal here though honestly. $75 for that plate but your getting plenty of crab meat. Drinks are over priced and service is really slow .. prob wont return if I do it's for those legs ...

The food was excellent with huge portions. The garlic bread is so scrumptious. A little pricey but we were celebrating so it was worth it. The wait staff was excellent.

This place is a hidden gem. As soon as you come in John greeted us warmly and even put on a little show with the fishes. The food is amazing!!! Highly recommended.

The service was excellent omg i will be going back. We went to have dinner with our friend it was her birthday and we had a food time the music was good the foos omg it was amazing our waitress they were the best. Thank you for making us feel welcome

I love this place. The food, the workers, the owner, and even the music. Service is quick and fast and they go above and beyond.

Vibe is different. You have sea view seats. It's worth the price. There garlic bread is delicious.

this place is nothing fancy but the food and views are great. the garlic bread is so good, you can't atop eating it. And the crab legs are so big they took up the whole table. definitely worth the money. staff is very attentive and friendly.

This restaurant is my FAVORITE in City Island the food is wonderful the service is awesome I went recently again for my bday 1/25 from the owner waitress service so welcoming so lovely on top of great service & awesome food HIGHLY RECOMMEND will b back ????

I loved the food. The bread was soo good. You have to make sure you save some room for your food. The music is Marvin Gaye style, which I love. The only thing that I really didn't like was that the lights were very dim.

The owner John is great person. He value his customers. This restaurant you can feel and sense the history at the moment you walk in. The seafood is great.

They took very long to serve us oysters which was the appetizer and when the oysters came they were not fresh they were frozen with ice Which would explain why they took so long.We had to ask the waitress for the horseradish she forgot to serve it. This is a common ingredient when serving oysters. The appetizer came right before the main entree which ruined the whole mood. The lemon that Came with the lobster was dried. When we asked the waitress for the manager she said he was not there in the restaur

Beautiful spot to satisfy your seafood and waterfront view cravings. Hearty portions, lovely decor and a beautiful view of the water. JP's you are representing city island well!

Delicious food, kinda pricey but worth it. (Side note) If you're not a fan of garlic, you might want to forego this spot! But its pretty cozy, good for a special night out for two or to catch up with a friend over some good food!

JP?S!?Is delicious... Here I present to you , their Stuffed Shrimp with Crabmeat , Lobster Tail with Fried Shrimp and there Freshly made Garlic Bread ( served hot off the press as soon as you sit down

The restaurant itself has a pretty nice atmosphere. The cardboard on the men's bathroom floor is certainly weird and gives dive bar vibes, even if it's practical. The service was good; nothing to complain about. Menu prices are very high, but food portions are huge, so a combo for two will easily feed three or four people. Single-person portions are good for two people. The garlic bread that we got was quite good. For whatever reason, we received four pieces for six people. Why not just give us six small

Not wort your time or money, DO NOT COME HERE, the food is BLAND, TASTELESS, Calamari had no taste what so ever, Streamed Lobster was the same, the only items that had any flavor??? was the fries and the fried shrimp, I truly believe this restaurant serves pre-boxed frozen meals, straight from the freezer to the frying pan, to yor plate, pics are in order of appearance, the fried shrimp amd fries, jumbo shrimp with crab meat stuffing, which had no crab, and last was the steamed lobster.

Screaming from the rooftops at the top of my lungs... best and freshest seafood I have ever had. This was my second time ordering from JP's (I was leary of them because their prices where a bit high) but it was worth every freaking penny.. From the food, packaging, delivery time... Delicious.. Just sorry I ate the Stuffed Shrimp before I took a photo of them

Dear God, the place is a dump! Everything looks so beat up and old. Obviously the Magnificent restaurants of City Island area thing of the past. The matre de. Looked Like he just changed the oil of his tractor ! His clothes were filthy.

I actually had a chance to meet the owner. Never has any place of business made me feel so welcomed. The food was fresh, hot n tasty. If you go to City Island, please find this hidden gem. The music was on point n the service was amazing.

Owners and bus girl not wearing mask. Food was delicious and portions are appropriate for the price. Tables, floor etc dirty and not up to par with prices, not what you want to see while eating.

Drove to City Island from Bay Ridge for dinner at JP?s. We've been here twice before. The food is excellent, the portions are huge. The staff are friendly and professional. I know it's funny but ?John at the bar is a friend of mine he gave me my second drink for free? I asked him for a Negroni he said I haven't had a call for one in ten years. Experience City Island and JP? is Must.

Atmosphere was great, celebrated a birthday. Waitress (Diamond) was super nice and attentive! For starters, the garlic bread- wow! Freshly made, warm and soft (Yumm!) We received a free appetizer (fried shrimp, pictured) it was delicious, tender & juicy. Perfect with tartar sauce too. I ordered the crab stuffed shrimp with a potato, so good. We also ordered fried whiting with fries and lobster tail with side of shrimp & crabmeat stuffing & rice. All great! Lobster was seasoned and juicy, amazinggg. The only

This place is amazing! The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. Madeline was amazing and John the manager was amazing. Very friendly! I would recommend this place. I will definitely be back!

Hard to know where to start.... Loved my Pina Colada and garlic bread, this isn't just good bread, it's special. Stuffed flounder, little clams with bacon bits, scallops, pasta calamari, jumbo shrimp, lobster tails, oysters, and on and on, it was a feast. It all comes quickly too. Sat outside and enjoyed the view. It's places like this NYC hides away but the locals know the deal! John is a great owner / host, will def be back to darken his doorstep again!

Have been here in years food is still good. Server was great food came fast after ordering the garlic bread hmmmmm love it

John the owner definitely knows how to treat the ladies, amazing guy. king crab legs were amazing, all the beverages as well. you won't find JP's on the main strip. You have to make the first left off the bridge. JP's is the second restaurant on the left hand side. Pull up!

The owner is on the floor working. That's a plus for me! Staff is friendly also! Nothing like some good old seafood!

Owner is amazing and hospitable. Food was great ??. All the way from ohio. The best I've had.

I want to start by saying the place looks like a throw back and that was cool. Unfortunately that's where the compliments end. The food had literally no flavor. They didn't add salt to any dish that was ordered. I had the fried flounder and it had no seasoning what so ever. No salt no pepper. These dishes average $40?50. The least they could do is add some salt. It's grossly overpriced for bland food. It was really disappointing because it's reviewed highly. I can say with certainty that I won't try this p

I was Recommended to come here and so glad that, I came.. I Had a beautiful anniversary dinner here.. I really enjoyed the scenery, music, and food!! Delicious Fresh Seafood.. I would have, gave 5 stars but we wasn't able to eat outside

Hands down the best restaurant on city island. I'm 2 nights late posting this but I have to! The food is so fresh and delicious. He's not lying when he's says he has the best shrimp. It's like nothing I've ever had except for in the Caribbean. Furthermore, the service is exceptional. And the Drinkssss ohhh boy let me tell you about the Mai tai! JP is such a sweet soul, I've never met any restauranteur like him. His energy and spirit seem so pure. Thank you for that great experience. And thank you for being

Big Portions, good quality, nice views. Priced for the quality. JP is a great guy, cares about his customers. Outdoor seating has a great view of the Long Island Sound.

This is the best spot in City Island HANDS DOWN?? Awesome service, great hospitality, huge portions! I recommend the stuffed flounder & fried shrimp meal. And the garlic bread is so good!!!

Been coming here for years. You get quality and quantity. Worth every penny.

The food was amazing. I just wish my butter came with some season Other than that the food was marvelous

Order the shrimp scampi and JPs special for 2. Wow the amount of food. The service was on point!

Had a wonderful time here! my family enjoyed everything about this spot. Food was on point. Delicious, tasty, fresh seafood. Will definitely come again.

Great food, large portions even for the kids menu stuff. Friendly and attentive staff. Awesome views, place is right by the water. Valet parking lot.

Great little fine went with a regular who's friends with the owner (John), so it was a great time had by all solid strong cocktails and amazing portions of food.......my girl friend and I shared the I believe the Sonny's Combo for two that consisted of broiled lobster tails, stuffed clams, shrimp scampi, scallops and flounder (sorry distracting convo and liquor got me not having a pic of the platter ????). Sonny's Broiled Combo For 2 Shrimps, flounder, scallops, baked clams, and 2 large lobster tails serv

Thier King Crab Legs are to die for. These are extremely huge and taste great ..not to mention thier garlic bread.. yummmm

The food was okay but they were doing construction. I will not go back until the place is fixed up.

I was taken here for Father's Day and I wish we went somewhere else. My wife and I were here over 20 years ago when we had our parents meet. The decor is still the same. The AC was on full blast where we were seated. We asked to server if they could turn it down, it never was. Our food got colder by the second and it made our experience here unfavorable. Thanks for creating a memory nonetheless.

My friends and I went to JP's for my birthday and my dinner was a success. PJ personally came out to greet us and also gave us a complimentary dish and free cake and drinks on the house. He also was kind enough to take a picture with us. I want to thank PJ for the upmost and wholesome hospitality, we will be back. If you're in City Island - Go to JP's ?????????????????? #amazingbdaydinner #jpscityisland #greatplace #gotoJPS

Dinner is gonna be awesome at work tonight. I got to actually meet JP and he gave me a side of my favorite crab meat stuffing. I'm a definite foodie and that stuffing is for real!!!!! Can't wait to dig in

This place is always great to come eat. There will always be plenty of leftovers to take home because they serve large portions. The garlic bread is always the best start, the drinks are great and pricing is reasonable. Valet always has a smile on his face and not too many places now adays where the owner is still hands on. 12/27 Still my favorite place in City Island. Everyone is attentive from the moment you walk in. The garlic bread is still the best on the island. The food is still delicious, a large se

Little pricey crab legs $80 (good) The rice not tastey Steak delicious

We had stuffed shrimp and flounder it was delicious oh, the drinks was not so good I had a pina colada very watery

Love this plc, went here when we got married 9 years ago. Great food and better service for sure..

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
