HyperSpace Los Altos

HyperSpace Los Altos

Reviews Summary

This arcade is generally well-received, especially for families with young kids (3-12). Reviews highlight its small but clean, well-maintained space with a decent variety of games, including ticket machines, pinball, and VR. Many appreciate the kid-friendly atmosphere, reasonable pricing ($20 for 1+ hours), and party-friendly options like karaoke rooms. Some note limited food options but praise the outdoor patio. A few criticize high game costs (initially $1/song, now $0.75) or occasional rude staff. The consensus: a fun, manageable spot for kids’ outings, though less ideal for serious gamers or adults seeking a quieter experience. Most ratings are 4-5 stars.

Customer Reviews

Cute little space for kids to play and entertain themselves. They video games and play area. Something you can take the kids during the week or on weekends. There is some outdoor seating area. The staff is super nice. I was very happy to find this place in Los Altos. Lots of food options around the area.

Perfectly small! Big enough to have lots of games but small enough to not be overwhelming! I would love a concession area though!

Decent place for kids to hang around and host parties. Well located and across from Safeway parking lot. They have two levels and outdoor space so weather permitting you have options but also means there are sometimes multiple parties going in parallel and it can get busy. Ive seen parents hang around in the outdoor space. Has the usual mix of video games, air hockey, etc.

Very fun place to sprnd a birthday party. The staff is ok because we were just playing the claw machine and they ask us is there a probleme? every 1minute so it was quite anoying but the is awesome. You can win lots of prices. They have VR head sets and Nintendo and of course arcade games. SUPER FUN I RECOMEND THIS PLACE JUST TO HAVE FUN. Thanks a lot for making my experiance enjoyable.

Originally rented a karaoke room for a group but it wasn't working. Will offered a refund or set us up with credit for the arcade so we were still able to have some fun. Highly recommend due to Will's awesome customer service!

So much fun for kids and kinda-grown-ups. I don't know who had more fun, our preschooler or us mid-thirty somethings. You get a game card that you can load with virtual tokens and the card also keeps track of the "tickets" you win which can be redeemed for prizes. Very low waste and doesn't require carrying around a ton of tokens or tickets. You can rent out Karaoke rooms, game rooms for game consoles, or try the Virtual Reality room. All of it is super fun. Perfect for a quick trip with the kids or a fun

Very good arcade. Has a lot of variety, frequently updated prizes, and a lot of options for parties. The pricing is decent, with $20 being good for an hour or more. Best machines for tickets: Doodle jump: easy 150 tickets for 3 credits The pixel bossfight: 1000 tickets is real, takes some practice though. Not a scam, best played alone to make final boss easier.

Legalized child gambling. This is a kids casino first and foremost with just enough actual arcade games (5?) to make it feel legal.

Awesome arcade. The upstairs gaming rooms and awesome for parties. Recommended for tweens and teens looking to get some couch time.

This is only for the bathrooms. My 14yo saw the signs and pointed them out to me. She thought they were pretty sexist and I agree. Would love to see you add a baby changing station to the men?s room so they can take care of their babies too.

A fun place for kids or adults who are into arcade games. Also, good for team events as they can accommodate large groups indoor. They also allow you to bring/order food from outside

As you would probably expect, you probably don't want to play the claw game. The owners of Hyperspace have set the claw game to make sure that grab pressure is low so you'll waste lots and lots of money consistently failing to win (seriously, just watch the claw lose its grip right at the very end, dropping your prize). Claw games are basically a big obvious con, waste of money, akin to legalized gambling for kids, and a way to take your money with no reward. Good job ripping people off, Hyperspace. Finall

Soft opening for new arcade in downtown Los Altos, located close to Safeway. Great new spot to have a great time.

Nice arcade for kids birthday parties and a good weekend spot. Lots of stuff to do around nearby while kids hangout here.

Pretty fun place. Only went to the arcade. It was small but pretty fun. Nice outdoor and good for birthday parties. But a problem is that one of the register staff was very rude and just threw the prices on the showcase and when we asked for a different price, he made a bad face like he didn't even care. Some of them were good.

This is fun for kids of all ages. It's a great option to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon, either by having the kids entertain themselves while you sit on the patio and relax or all together. We've held a birthday party here and they were extremely accommodating and helpful. The kids love playing in the arcade and then use the karaoke room. We all did VR together and both the adults and the kids loved it. Just an overall great spot to have locally!!

Hosted a birthday party here. The kids had tons of fun, which isn't surprising! Not the cheapest option for a party, but Hyperspace had great service and the catered food was very tasty. We were allotted the "Asteroid" room for our event, which was spacious and very clean. Thank you to Mary Kate, our event host, and Scott, the manager, for making everything very easy. Highly recommended.

The arcade is nice, but small. There's free parking at the Safeway in front.

Great little arcade in Los Altos. We stopped by for something to do on a Tuesday evening. Fun clean and nice employees. The only other times we have gone we for birthday pastors which are always crazy no matter where you go.

This place is great! My son had his 9th birthday with his friends. All the boys and girls loved it, even parents too. There are 2 sections filled with arcade games on the first floor, then 2 part room, 1 big hall and game room which has lots of space in the back. We got the Red room. It was spacious and clean, big enough to accommodate 12 kids and 8 adults (1 baby with stroller). Staffs were friendly, pizza was delicious. Thank you.

As a rhythm game player, I'm pretty disappointed to see that the local dance machine is charging an arm and a leg. For over a dollar per song, it's okay for a quick play in the area but nothing else. The arcade itself is small but pretty well kept otherwise. Two restrooms that were well maintained last I checked and the front is kept open to dissipate all the heat from the machines. 2024/02 update: They have reduced the cost of the machine down to about $0.75 a song. Updating the rating accordingly.

Kids had a great time playing in the arcade and parents can relax on the patio outside.

This place was pretty cool small arcade but fun games. My husband and I just wanted to enjoy the afternoon on a Saturday. We thought it would be fun to go to an arcade by 4:30 the place was packed with children. It almost seemed as if parents just drop their kids off there. It's definitely a kid's hangout on a Saturday. I could see why though Good environment Good options of games there's even gaming consoles upstairs along with party rooms and a VR room. Pretty cool setting

Fun place to take the kids

Excellent place to host a birthday party! Scott was great to work with and made the planning easy! Dedicated host on the day, Ella, was very attentive! Catered food from State Street Market was delicious (I definitely recommend the sliders)! Party room was very nice and had a colorful backdrop for pictures! Can't say enough wonderful things about this place - it was a perfect party and everyone (kids and adults alike) had a great time!!!

Great new arcade!!! Parking across the street at Safeway. Grab boba guys afterwards since it is just down the street.

Had a bday party there?. SO MUCH FUNNNNNNN!!!!!

Had a surprise birthday party here for my fianc? and had a great time! Staff was very friendly, helpful, and responsive whenever I had questions. Party host was very kind and made sure we had everything we needed. Games were fun, pizza was very good, and everything was new and clean. Ideal for both kids and adults who want to feel like a kid again. Thank you so much HyperSpace for a wonderful time!!

Lots of games, kept an 11 yr old and 7 yr old busy winning loot to take home.

We came here to celebrate my daughter's classmate's birthday and we were favorably impressed with the selection of games and the friendliness of the staff. The upstairs semi-private room was nice too (a bit on the small side but we appreciated the cleanliness and also the window that could open to get fresh air).

Many games don't work, ticket earning malfunctions.

Came to play stepmania X, the game is massively overpriced. $10 in arcade credits gets you 7 songs (*songs*, not sets). I don't think the arcade owner understands that that is about 2.5x the going rate for rhythm games at other arcades. Also both the bars were a little loose but useable and the volume was a little bit low. Kinda understandable if they're concerned about noise pollution. You can tell the SMX machine is under loved here bc every single song I played set a high score and I am definitely not t

It was a fun place for my son and his friend to play games. it is a bit expensive to play a game (about $1 each play) and they have limited number of games (maybe 15 games). i think it was more fun to go to other arcades

We LOVE this place! My middle school boys love it and so do I! FUN games with lots of selection, VR room, hang out with friends and play video games on comfy couches. Great staff and it feels really clean. It's just awesome!

It's small with a selection of games aimed at younger (5-12) kids but clean and fun. We love that there's a pony riding game good even for toddlers and a driving game that lots of adults enjoy. We play air hockey quite a bit as a family too.

Lots of fun ??. Updated with lots of cool new games. Perfect spot for a company meeting upstairs, which happened today. Many happy employees! Also a great outdoor area for parties. Lots of parking. ADA compliant.

Amazing arcade experience for families. Unique games like a big screen version of Space Invaders. Watch out for the card scanning system as sometimes the machine will dock you credits without actually letting you play the game, though staff is very responsive when this happens.

There are few arcade places in the area and this one is quite fun! There a good variety of games including some newer coin based games. Would like to see more fighting games like street fighter but this is kid friendly.

Nice small Arcade. Plenty of games for all ages. Even a pool table. No food, but there is a nice outdoor seating area.

Really cool arcade. I love all the games and I go there when I can. The staff are really nice and friendly. There is even an upstairs with karaoke and other stuff. Great hang out for anyone.

Came all the way here for the VR experience but it was down, was told it should be working tomorrow! Update: Came back the next day and had to wait an hour or so, but finally got to do the VR. Also, granddaughter got the 1000 ticket bonus on the Big Bass Wheel and was ecstatic!

Pretty good spot to spend some time with kids. We had a birthday party here and overly were satisfied. The only weird thing is unreasonable price for karaoke and VR.

This place is clean and has a friendly staff. It's small but a welcome addition to an area that doesn't have much where the focus is on fun for kids. There are about 20 different games to choose from.

Went here for a work event and had a good time playing VR, Xbox, pool, and arcades. Staff was friendly and helpful. Wish they had beers available.

We took our 5yo there and had a blast. It was Friday night and there was a live band outside. Highly recommended!

Loved having our private party before regular hours. It was our first time in an arcade since the start of the pandemic. Our kids were thrilled.

Fun place to come relax with friends or even come on a date. Place was not crowded at all and the prices on the games were good. Played here for about 2 hours.

Perfect place for younger kids, and Los Altos is pretty awesome to hang out. My kids love the place, and the ticket management is pretty straight forward. Great job!

I don't need signage to tell me I can change a diaper in the men's room. I don't understand why a woman needs a sign to know its ok? I could be missing the point.

Had our six year old?s birthday party here. Service was minimal but the location is great

Clean convenient just the right size not too big or overwhelming. Super cute place to hang out with our teenaged sons for Father's day

Awesome to have a game room around! Nice, clean place. Most games work most of the time. Very little rotation of games.

I had a lovely time. I came in with $20 and walked out with a plastic dinosaur, a rubber band, and a green laffy taffy which was delicious. 10/10 would go again

Great little spot. Keeps your token and ticket value on file for next time! First arcade I've seen that does that. Very family friendly little feature.

Clean, fun, much needed venue in the South Bay

Super fun and well maintained pinball upstairs. Please get more BunBun varieties! My kids love them.

Great place for a birthday party! Fun games and the video game screens were a big hit!

Really nice arcade, clean and well maintained, high ceilings and huge doors open to the outside. Bright and airy space.

Lots of fun! Great prizes and games. Nice staff. Small and expensive though.

Good place for kids (3 to 9 yo) on a rainy day. Not huge but definitively big enough for the kids (outdoor patio also available).

400 bucks wasted, got 4,000 tickets, bought RC car, looked online and it was only 40 bucks, got home, assembled it, didn't work. That's my experience. Don't recommend. Waste of money.

Very good place for parents to bring their kids the environment is awesome the games are great for the kids I recommend this highly this place

Fun playing the games they had (Mario Cart, Jurassic park shooter game, hoops connect 4 etc) but it was much smaller than expected

Loved this place, every time we go we find kids of all ages enjoying, from 3 to 80, no kidding.

Fun little arcade place. Not many games but good vibes

Small space but clean and good quality arcade games

Ideal for kids ... not too big, not too noisy, decent selection of machines, reasonably priced.

The arcade is fun for kids and teens. The staff are friendly.

place looked great, gameplay is amazing

Super clean arcade with several fun games

1 star, the staff was extremely rude, and ended up ?misreading? the number of tickets won by about 500, I don't recommend

Great safe local environment for kids.

Great place for hosting kids' birthday.!

The entitled children with their electric bikes is most obnoxious.

Great for pre-teen kids. No flashy games and very much under control.

Fun arcade experience

Cool to spend some time there

?A very good place for a birthday parties!?

Small arcade fun, mostly ticket machines.

Great customer service, fun games, & good prices.

Not your typical dingy rip off arcade. Even a free photo booth

It is fun but there aren't many games

The Karaoke made my throat hurt, which is what's supposed to happen. 5/5

Pretty good value and very new games

Nice, good selection for kids, a little small.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are virtual reality games in arcades worth playing?

Yes, virtual reality (VR) games in arcades are a top attraction in 2025! Titles like Beat Saber and Half-Life: Alyx deliver immersive thrills with cutting-edge headsets, motion tracking, and responsive controllers. High-resolution displays and spatial audio create heart-pounding experiences, from slashing rhythms to battling zombies. Arcades feature multiplayer VR zones and tournaments, fostering lively communities. VR booths are regularly packed, proving their captivating, next-level gameplay makes them a must-try arcade experience.

Why are arcade prize games so exciting to play?

Arcade prize games are a thrilling highlight in 2025! Claw machines, skee-ball, and ticket-redemption games like basketball offer a rush of skill and chance, with rewards like plushies, toys, or electronics up for grabs. Modern machines feature vibrant lights, digital scoreboards, and responsive controls, amplifying the fun. The lively arcade atmosphere, with cheering crowds and buzzing energy, makes every win feel epic.
