Hole in the Wall

Hole in the Wall

Reviews Summary

Most reviews praise the bar's fun atmosphere, free arcade games, friendly bartenders, and affordable drinks, with many calling it a favorite spot. Weekday events and happy hours are highlights. However, some criticize broken games, overcrowding, and occasional issues with security or cleanliness (notably a urine smell). A few mention inconsistent ID checks or poor service. While the vibe is generally welcoming, a handful of negative experiences stand out, particularly with bouncers or dated amenities. Overall, it’s a beloved dive with nostalgic charm but has room for improvement in maintenance and customer service.

Another gem of the Oregon District! Eclectic, nostalgic, laid-back, welcoming, unique...all ways to describe this awesome bar. So many activities and themes, it's like going to 5 of your favorite bars a different day each week. Hands down the best bartenders and staff who make everyone feel welcome and have a good time. Great mix of people enjoying the bar... everyone is made to feel welcome! You can't go wrong going here, and you'll keep going back.

Definitely a great spot if you're looking for a chill vibe surrounded by good people. My friends and I make it a point to stop in after work, especially when Donna is there. She's amazing. Extremely attentive and incredibly kind. She takes an interest in her customers and makes us feel more like family <3

Donna is my favorite bartender at Hole! She is friendly and always makes it a personal mission to connect with everyone who comes in! She makes my day.

Came to this bar after the dragons game, Donna made it worth it! Will definitely be back!

EMMA was beautiful & AMAZING! GREAT customer service!!! 1000/10!!! highly recommend!

John Chapel is one of the best DJs in Dayton and doesn't play here enough.

So much potential! Instead of being negative I will post my suggestions to Hole in the Wall and hopefully they will take a look at them. 1. Get tall glass cups for the drinks. The small plastic cups really ruin the mood. 2. Have a donation bucket and ask every customer to donate towards buying more games for the arcade. People will generously donate if you can offer them some classic games. X-Men, Street Fighter, Terminator, Streets of Rage, Ninja Turtles, Star Wars Light saber etc. 3. Expand your mixed dri

Emma was amazing love her very pretty!

Amazing bar for nostalgic gamers. They have consoles with 2 player games. Wall to wall arcade games, friendly staff (easy on the eyes too). Drinks are reasonably priced and with a good selection. The crowd is super trendy. You WILL have fun.

Emma is amazing we love her <3

My roommate and I just moved to Dayton here recently and today was our first time out since moving here. We stopped at another local bar but decided to leave because it wasn't our vibe. From the moment we stepped in ?hole in the wall? we felt nothing but positivity. The bartender was great (Kelly I think??) and so was the other staff!!! Overall 10/10 experience. Great music and even better drinks. We definitely have found our new go to spot!

Awful security on July 1st. Asked if I can leave and come back in so I could go to my car to grab something for my friend who was sick in the bathroom and was told that was fine. When coming back in, told me I needed to pay $5 even though I was just in there (and didn't pay). They asked for my wrist band, which they never gave me one upon entry. I explained the situation and how I was just told it wouldn't be a problem and that I just needed to get my friend from the bathroom to leave. Their response was ?i

Looking for a fun spot to play some amazing free games, listen to some good music, have some nice patio time, and some great drinks? Look no further. This is one of my go to spots on a Saturday afternoon with nothing to do. It is pretty quiet with not a lot of folks in the shop so you have free reign over the games. They also usually have a movie playin as well. I love the Gamer theme to the bar and the Mario world 1-1 on the bar top. For fro-fro frilly drinks try the Pink Dragon. I love me some Pink

John chappell is 12/10 amazing dj gods gift to this earth

Qualifying this review to note the night we went there was a DJ in this tiny space. Small space, not many serious games, emphasis does not seem to be on games at all. We in-and-outted without playing as the crowd was sort of hanging out trying to dance in the back of the place. Might be fun but was not for anyone there for the games.

Solid bar to go to in the Oregon District. Free arcade games to play, typical bar prices (not bad) and great location. I enjoy starting the night at Toxic next door, come to Hole in the Wall, then go to Century Bar. Overall a pretty standard bar, arcade games give it a boost.

Real chill, you get a hodgepodge of folks coming in. Wednesdays are Quiplash nights, pretty much video game version of Cards Against Humanity. Music varies and DJs are open to suggestions. Drink specials vary month to month, and the bartenders are super friendly.

A good selection of beers, but not many on tap. Cheap drinks, nerdy video game decor, and arcade games lining the walls. It gets pretty packed on weekends, so be prepared to possibly queue outside if they are at capacity or to have to fight your way through the crowd if you manage to get in.

Back area past the bar had an overbearing urine smell impossible to ignore. Their pull and focus on arcade machines was lost when we found out most of them were broken. Other than that, friendly bartender, service was quick.

Bit inconsistent at sizing drinks. I've been here 3 times and have had different sizes of the same drink each time for the same price. Decent selection of arcade but need more for a "Barcade", decent music but it can get packed quickly on weekend nights.

I was pleasantly surprised by this bar. Nice selection of arcade and console games. I loved that they had the Jackbox party pack game open for everyone to play. Beer selection was okay, but the games more than make up for it.

Great spot. Size and vibe reminds me of NYC bars. Lively with music, games, and diverse crowd. Small outdoor space for smokers or to cool off. I'll definitely be back to rage latenight next time I'm in Dayton.

Fun arcade bar in oregon district. All the arcade games are free to play without any coins required. They also have some game systems (i think N64 and NES emulator?) in the front of the bar so you can play some smash brothers or mario kart. Drinks are pretty standard, nothing fancy, cheap. Bar is pretty packed on weekends and a nice chill place to hang out on weeknights.

A great barcade in the area. The drinks are fairly priced. It can get packed for a small place. There's also a good selection of arcade games in the back and if you're not into that there's game's outside like janga.

This place was amazing!!! Donna is awesome!!

Have your ID ready if you are not white. Went with a group of friends 10+ i was the only minority, they let all of my friends in without checking their ID but stopped me and carded me.

Awesome staff! Always a fun night if you wander in here. Live DJs on the weekends, quaint patios out front and back, cold beer: what else could you want?

You can quickly get a drink when you run into your ex girlfriends, even in a crowded night, and go to the patio and watch somebody else run into their ex girlfriend... and talk about it over a talk old style. It's not the bars fault, but its the bar that helps you confront your demons. Your whorish evil demons. Free arcade games too!

Eric always adds a nice charm to Monday nights

I always love going out and to this bar in particular.. the drinks are well prepared, the bartenders are knowledgeable enough in their mixology, the prices are a bit high but it's all about location location location.... try their drink 'Washington Apple' it was impressive... CHEERS!!!

The bouncers were basically the definition of D bags .......awful service and was treated terribly by a adorable little fella that was 4 foot 3 and definitely wanted to be 7 feet..........there are so many better places to go on 5th street

A fun dive, weekday events, like music bingo, game night, karaoke, ect.. Free arcade games, and a cheap happy hour that runs til 7pm!

What a fun bar!!! The service was excellent, free arcade games, cold beer...Kelli was an amazing, friendly bartender. We will be back for sure?

Weird place. A lot of arcade games and local beets which is nice, but it's absurdly small and has a ten dollar minimum. Not a very enjoyable experience, but I feel like it could've been

It's definitely a hole in the wall but the the atmosphere is everything you're looking for. Throwback music on constant rotation, neon lights, games to play all night long, and cheap specials.

Don't belive the hype... they won't like you if you dance.... I got kicked out for dancing and sweating to much. If your basic... you'll love it...

Horrible server horrible service. She was rude and lazy never going back

Very cool bar! Loved it Slightly disappointed I didn't actually see any holes in the wall though

Left my card and they returned it within literally minutes they are awesome

People are friendly, and the bartenders are great. Everyone always has a good time in the hole

Great staff and environment, tons of people to meet and amazing arcade games to play.

Me and my girlfriend were having a great time when out of nowhere the bouncer came up to us and called us FAGS. Last time I''ll ever be there again.

Prices on drinks were good but there really weren't all that many games there.

Employable bartenders always good DJ experience video games are free and it's always Poppin

Good prices for drink. And great music!.. free entry!

Eric the bartender was awesome

For a Hole in the Wall, it's cool. Lots of arcade games and friendly bartender.

Great atmosphere, loved the vintage theme,,would recomend to anyone visiting this area ??

Video games, competitively priced drinks, and a dependable staff. Why don't you hangout here?

Decent place. 1/3 of machines seemed to be broken or not working but the staff was really cool.

Amazing bar! Fun games and cool bartenders!

Always a good time. Friendly staff and cozy surroundings make this a Dayton favorite.

A fun place to spend a few hours playing games and drinking with friends.

I tried to meet a girl here for a bumble date but I couldn't find her so I left

Autumn is the best bouncer ever!

Kat makes the place!!! ??

Our first time in Dayton. Felt SO welcomed. Chrissy is SUCH a professional, personable bartender. Really made us feel like this is our new ?Spot? in our new town. Happy hour is great! TouchTunes!! Everything we could want. The fact that this place is partners with other bars on the block is the cherry on top. Wills DEFINITELY be back!! :)

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
