Heister Lanes receives mixed reviews, with praise for friendly staff, clean facilities, and fun atmosphere, but criticism for high prices, poor cleanliness (especially restrooms), accessibility issues, and inconsistent service. Customer Reviews

Let me start by saying i had loads of fun. Members of the staff are friendly. Food ordered through the link comes quickly. The kitchen is under staffed Food ordered at the counter is slow moving.

I accidentally booked lanes at this place so I decided to go try it out because of the recent good review. Never going back away I rather go to berks lane. The shoes were run down I felt like my foot was going to come out. The bathroom was gross and there was a huge crack on the stall door. Finding a bowling ball is like going on a treasure hunt. There's no designated place for 6 pound balls and there's rarely any. The pizza and quesadillas were gross for it to cost so much. I'm usually not picky but someon

Staff is very friendly and helpful! Everything looked clean too! My daughter and I had a great time there!

I went here for the spring break bowling deal, which provided ?unlimited? bowling for $10 a person. When we went to pay the lady at the counter told us we can play as many games as we wanted WITHIN an 1 hour and 30 minute time limit. Read the posters all over the bowling lane and the posters never said anything about a time limit. Did they not get the concept of unlimited?

Had a great time. Nice staff, friendly faces. Has changed a lot since I last been there in 2008 but for the better my opinion.

Excellent place to bowl! We used a Groupon which worked seamlessly! Had a great time with 12 people. The staff were exceptionally friendly and the food prices were as reasonable as a bowling alley gets. We had one toddler bowl and they helped us without complaints when her ball got stuck in the gutter a few times. We will be going back!

A great experience for planning my son's 15th birthday I called the corporate number and Deb the party planner got everything planned out easy payment and great programs each one of the kids at the party got $5 gift certificates and game cards for the arcade and 2 hours of unlimited bowling all as I had to do was show up with the birthday boy and I put together some party favors food was very good not a lot of choices but then you shouldn't expect too much from a bowling alley I will say the nachos were awe

Great lanes, arcade, food and bar! Fun for everyone. Flat screen TVs for sports too! Very friendly management and staff.

Was only one person on staff and and for the price of the adult drinks,it wasn't worth it,they were extremely weak.lanes kept messing up,and the recovery time took way too long.

I like this bowling alley, but can't give it 5 stars due to the lack of cleanliness of the restroom. The bathroom is pretty gross and doesn't seem like it's cleaned very often.

So much fun! Would have given 5 but women at snack bar wasn't too friendly. Perhaps she was tired and ready to go home. We all have those days. Service was quick once she took our orders

Had a great time here while visiting family in the area. We made reservations for 7 online; & added 1 more in person- we were greeted cheerfully. The staff periodically checked in on us to ask if we needed anything which I appreciated. There was only 1 person working the food orders, she was a rock star! She had a positive attitude & hustled without appearing overwhelmed. I was impressed- she got our very large order correct and it didn't take as long as I was expecting for our food to be ready. It was a r

Decent place. Worst pizza ever. We had a great time. Bowled for 2 hours for $33 on a Groupon. Plus pitcher of soda and shoe rentals for 6. Nice staff. Will go again.

Last April 25, as is customary, we celebrated my son's birthday playing on his Reading facilities on line 31. After a while line 32 was assigned to a young couple.? Lines 31 and 32 share the automatic band that returns the balls.? It was then that a fault occurred that prevented the balls from being returned, so we reported the fault.? Then Laura came screaming and scolding us because, according to her, we caused the failure by having more than one ball per person;? but during the two years that we have bee

Nice place but the bathrooms are nasty. Other than that it is really nice. I don't get it.

Hi guys this place is a lot of fun but can the heat be on in the winter like when I went to the bathroom it was very cold like there was no heat at all when I was in there so can you guys turn your heat on in this place because some people don't like cold at all :/

They seem to put all the Special Needs adults together. We had a group and the Heisters Lanes staff put us with the other Special Needs group that was bowling. We even asked to be moved. Fat Chance!]

It was so fun and I recommend it. It was for my son?s birthday. He had so much fun. He even started crying.

Excellent times with my grandkids, and super happy Lemuel & Eliel. Nicely attention by two service's ?? I loved this place close at my neighborhoods, and I come back soon with others grand sons or ?? ????? ??

Good place, no issues aside from the mind of its own score board lol. Seem like good people, fun times.

Wow what a blast! Food, drinks, games and bowling of course.... This place is like all the best places wrapped up into one! I can't wait for the next time the family wants to go out... Cuz believe me, Daddy wants to go to Hiester Lanes again ????

Our favorite bowling alley ?? We love to go during the evening deal after 7pm.

It was a decent place to bowl on a sunday night. The lady at the food counter came off a little rude, and didn't seem to like her job. On the bright side Kris from the pro shop was great to deal with. My wife and I purchased our own balls, bag, and shoes. He took his time with us, and drilled the balls to a glove like fit. The overall experience was pleasant, and I'd visit again if in the area and wanting to bowl.

A great place to go with kids. They do glow bowling and we had a blast playing. Courteous staff and good deals.

Want up to see Kris at the pro shop enjoyed every moment up there

Took the family for two hours of bowling. Five of us got three games in. We were all able to find a ball that suited us. The equipment worked pretty well. We noticed if a gutter ball went down the left side the system would not register it and you had to send another ball down. The pop up bumpers worked well for the two younger ones. Over all we were happy with our experience. We did use a coupon that helped us overlook the minor things. If we paid full price, we would not be as happy.

This place changed and its a joke now people dont come at this place!

Fun birthday surprise! Staff seemed nice. Balls need updating, kind of expensive compared to other alleys. I dont enjoy the HUGE tv screens at the end of the lanes, it's a definite distraction to the game.

Nicely remodeled and spaced out when not packed -Neat arcade -Good food options and friendly service

Love this place. Come here pretty often. Freindly staff, usually not too busy

A great place to bowl... Grateful to Jamie and his staff for being extremely helpful and welcoming (as we were from out of town). Left there being overly impressed by the entire experience. Will be back again next time we are in Reading

A lot of fun but way too expensive it was so much money for the food and drinks. Beer tower was not worth it and tasted flat

Wow such a disappointment for a fun night out with friends ! They don't turn on the lights or fog machines any more no song requests and the food prices are astronomical ! Very disappointing will be traveling outside of the city to go to bowling alleys that still do all the fun stuff !!! Won't be returning we spent about $600 here tonight ! They say a big company bought them and don't allow them to use the lighting system or fog machine ! Place was definitely not packed either wonder when they will go out o

Facility is nice, food was decent prices are kinda high. Staff gave our food order to other patrons and still charged us for it. They should keep better track of what food goes to what lane. Caught bartender putting a powder in a drink and when confronted he was abrasive and defensive. He made me another drink in front of me. He was also on his phone the entire time watching something with an ear bud in.

Steer clear of their pro-shop. I'm extremely disappointed with our experience there. My husband and I are very new to the sport and traveled about an hour to purchase our first balls. Unfortunately they weren't fitted correctly. We purchased new balls and were properly fitted at the Bowlero in Bristol and couldn't be happier. The same place Bill O'Neil gets his balls fitted. My finger/hand no longer aches when I'm bowling. I can actually control the ball now too. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Great family atmosphere. I enjoy my time there with our bowling team balls 2 the Wallz ever other Tues night.

Rip off. Better alleys, cheaper. Were told $8 per game not 8per person per game.

Extremely friendly staff, and a very clean place. Not as big as berks but it is better maintained and more up to date, it does get pretty packed on league nights so casual bowling those days may be limited. The guys here really take care of their lanes with fresh oil and good floors perfect if you like to slide. I wished they had billiards open more throughout the day though. Lastly the pro-shop is 1st class, knowledgeable keeper and friendly enough. Has a good variety of equipment. I highly recommend going

Used to be the best. Once new ownership came in they stopped charging per hour and charge like $7 per person per game. So if three people want to play 3 games it's almost 80 dollars since they charge for shoes too. It's ridiculous

Heister's looks great after the remodel. Pizza was a little salty but the sampler platter was very good.

Terrible! Bathroom stinks, took 2hrs to get 2 burnt pizzas for $40. They use cheap dough & cheese. Pizza cost $20 each but is worth $5 at most. Be careful too! They even double charge your card without permission don't go here They don't care about their customers just money

Spent the afternoon here at a birthday party. The place definitely has improved since the last time I was here. As mom on the side line I really was able to see some of your employees bust thier butts to get ALL the things done. Laura runs the show. She has great customer service skills. Laura &Tanner were the only folks personable enough to feel comfortable asking for assistance. It is a shame because they both are doing the front desk, service lane, getting sodas and prizes. That might be possible on s

Right out the gate, more than I was expecting to spend for bowling. But inflation, yadda yadda. The people were nice, the music was okay. I think they have a jukebox with the app. The games in the arcade were also fun, decent selection. They do use the card/swipe system now, and the prizes are pretty steep. But for the fun, it was a good time.

We have been here twice in the past week because the kids had so much fun the first time. The staff has been very friendly each time. Clean rental shoes are a plus (not every alley seems to have them). They have a nice hourly rental package if you want to stay that long.

Great time! We used a few Groupons for our church youth group and they were more than accommodating even though it was a Glow Bowl time that wouldn't typically allow for another deal. Very grateful for their understanding and will definitely go again.

Good service and nice shoes and lanes. They can get pretty full in the later afternoon so go early if you can. They have a bar so you can get a pitcher or a single beer during the day. At night the bar is open and fully staffed and serves drinks. Has live comedians most weekends. The food is good especially the burgers. Has a nice arcade and some pool tables. Great place for all.

I love the employees there they really make it special. I don't like how a big Corporation bought them out and made it more expensive for families to go there. They also messed up the snack bar. The snack bar used to have really good food and now there are less options and it is way too expensive.

Booked my son?s birthday party online for Hiester Lanes. After invitations for the party were sent and guests confirmed attendance, Lou called and said they were double booked for that time and didn't have any lanes available for us for bowling. It didn't seem like a huge deal, so I said that yes, we could try for a later time that Day for the party. Even though I called the next day to confirm a later time for the party, I was still called the day of the party and was asked if we were coming at a later ti

Friendly staff. Beginning of new look. Only issue is pin resetters need to be regularly maintained. Being short staffed in the mechanics area has affected the cycling of these machines. But overall I like the facility.

Wish they would spread you out more on days they are not so busy. They throw in an area with people on both sides of you, meanwhile on the other side the place is empty. Had to ask the older gentleman behind the counter to turn the music up because you could barely hear it and he looked at me like i was asking for a million dollars. They need more air circulation..after one game it was so stuffy in there, had to go into the bar area to cool down. Bar on the otherhand had great drink prices, which actually

This was just really fun to do I haven't went to bowing on years

My husband and I went here for a little date. We had so much fun. It was a great experience. I can't wait to go back!

CELEBRATED MY BIRTHDAY GLOW BOWLING STYLE AND IT WAS AMAZING

We paid 45 to bring in the new year that was to include salad, pizza, chicken fingers, pizza and coconut shrimp. We got no salad, pizza that taste like it came from sams club, or frozen, enough shrimp for everyone to enjoy 1 piece, and maybe 2 chicken fingers each. This was horrible compared to previous years where they had Mike's subs cheese and ring bologna chips pretzels where it was satisfying to everyone. We had a group of about 16 or 17. We all agreed never again. We will find another place at the end

My experience there was not very well I came in and pay $14 for Glow Bowl a person for unlimited bowling from 10-1 and I get told at 12 there are closing early cause it's not busy am I not a paying customer so if your telling to leave early I should get some money returned to me cause I didn't work till 1 like the Bowl Glow is suppose to be.It was advertised that they were having a live band there lol that was false advertising it was a screen with music video. We also went to the Bar and the person at the

The bathrooms were not cleaned at all. They need to be redone.

Pro Shop is top notch.

I've been here before throughout my childhood and to be honest it's always been fine other than the cleanliness. Today we called to make reservations. A man picked up the phone sounded young. My mother asked if they were packed to see if it was worth the wait. He cut her off and said ?Look lady just give me your name and number can't promise anything? we replied with ?wow ok? and he said ?if we don't like it we don't have to come? before we got a word out he said ?it's too loud? and hung up. We did not want

Always a great time at Hiester Lanes! The unlimited bowling after 8pm I a great deal that includes shoe rental. The snack bar is quaint and has plenty to choose from. I don't drink but there is a nice little bar tucked in the corner next to the pro shop. There is an arcade section that gives kids the opportunity to collect tokens to trade in for prizes. The staff is friendly and the place is tidy. A real nice place.

It was a fun place to be. However, I was basically robbed of 15 dollars. While at the food counter I had ordered something for 5 dollars but only had a 20 dollar bill. So I expected 15 dollars change. But no, I was handed a couple coins. After I confronted the employee about it she said that I didn't give her a 20 and that she did it right when I know for a fact that I gave her a 20 for something worth 5 dollars. I was very angry. Be vigilant with your money.

The bar is a little to run down looking. Everything was great during my visit. Pizza and chiken tenders are good, perfect for a birthday party for children.

A very fun time was had by our crew and we got a great deal on Groupon. But the staff was ticked that we didn't make a reservation. I informed her that I spoke to their staff the previous night since I didn't know how that would work & wasn't instructed to...anywhoo the food was great and those workers were great and very welcoming.

Very nice little spot for some family fun. We went on a Groupon, but once we got there, the regular rates aren't unreasonable at all. They run lots of specials to keep things fun and affordable. The lanes are extremely well kept as well.

A clean, friendly, and delicious bowling center located in Reading. This is a Bowlero location and has a similar look and feel to other Bowlero locations. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The snack bar is great for a bowling center, and has lots of tasty treats for you. I liked the cheesy jalapeno fries. If you have kids with you who aren't going to be bowling the center has an ample game room with a good sized selection of prizes for your ticket spending joy. All in all, a great place.

The New Hiester Lanes has been restored to it's former glory the new owners have made great improvements to the bowling alley all the staff are friendly the food at the grill and bar is awesome. The pro shop is fully stocked and ready to serve your bowling equipment needs. I would recommend Hiester Lanes to my family and friends for Bowling Fun!!!!

Great time! 1st time there for Girls night. Really inexpensive, great drinks and snacks. Friendly staff and well maintained. Plan to put in the Girls Night out rotation.

I went bowling for the first time in years. They had friendly staff and and a great atmosphere. They also have a small arcade. The prices were reasonable. Will be going here again

Fun for the family and friends

Overall a very decent bowling alley. Great environment for people of all ages considering they have a bar section for adults, and an arcade for kids. My 2 complaints are the very expensive food ($6.49 for three chicken tenders) and the bathroom was out of both toilet paper and paper towels.

Good place for friends and family. Bowling bowls need an update they have a lot of chiped surface. Lack of personnel makes it a longer than expected wait time, but nothing crazy.

Used to love going to Heisters and was looking to go for a date night. I heard Heisters got expensive but what I found was ridiculous. I don't know if this happens if you try to go in and get a lane but if you book a lane online, if you go during ?prime time? they FORCE you to buy a 15$ gift card PER PERSON to use for food and drink. What if you don't want the gift cards?! Not to mention, over 100$ for ONE lane for 2 hours is completely ridiculous. Even during not prime hours it's still almost 100$! Outra

The update is not bowler friendly. You can not store your bowling bag anywhere near you. Food is average. The new chair decor is cute, the lay out just is not functional.

A group of us were bowling every other Saturday for the past year at Heister Lanes. We bought our own bowling equipment from the pro shop there. Kris & Antonio were super helpful. We loved how easy it was to call & reserve a lane for 2 hours. Since being bought out, it's been a process to reserve a lane & has gotten more expensive. We loved bowling there, but they have lost our business sadly. We won't be back.

Just stormed out of your establishment! Received coupons in the mail for the ?new Heister Lanes? and visited the website for clarification on glow bowl for Saturday night times. Nowhere on the coupons nor your website stated you needed reservations. Stood in line for 15 minutes before your unprofessional staff informed us that they were booked and no lanes were available. Even though the 3 gentlemen asked us prior if we had reservations and we told them no. They are writing bowlers names on scrapes of paper

Hiester lanes has a nice clean atmosphere. A little on the pricey side to bowl. Employees set up the lanes for your team. Just pick shoe size and bowl. Otherwise the family enjoyed the day.

You want to charge my husband and I $34 a week for league but yet you can't oil the lanes before you open? Not only are we paying for them to do nothing, we are paying for our balls to be destroyed and get chips in them because they can't do their part. Even the manager admitted to me the lanes weren't oiled.

OK place to bowl . It's a bit overpriced to play and the food is a little expensive. The bathrooms are awful...no toilet paper in any of the 3 stalls, floor was sticky and it just felt really unclean in there.

Very Disappointed!! I've been coming here for years with my family. Usually Mondays or other days during the week. I came in yesterday On a Monday for Family Time and As Soon As I Walked up to the counter I Was Told I Couldn't walk in on a Monday because it Was "Leagues" Night and The Only Lane open was reserved earlier on the day. I thought this was a public place and never had an issue before and did multiple birthdays parties there. Mind you I saw other families there bowling with younger children. I was

We've had good experiences at Heisters before, but have had several super bad experiences recently. 3 weeks ago we called to reserve a lane and they processed the reservation at the normal price even though they had a special discount going on. Never told us it could have been less expensive. Tonight, went just for the heck of it without a reservation knowing it gets less expensive on Sunday?s after 6. They had no lanes available - totally fine. THEN they told us they'd call Berks Lanes, which is an affili

There was a great deal on Groupon so we thought we'd try it out. Loved it!! We had a blast. We had food too. Shrimp basket, boneless wings. A good family time.

People don't understand that bowling is kind of a dying business because of overhead cost, so it makes sense that they had to increase price at some point. I still love going here though, but 5 bucks for a soda is kind of ridiculous.

Bowlero consumes yet another locally owned bowling center and jacks up the prices... on the other hand they are investing a little bit in upgrading the place, but it's not the entertainment value that it used to be... {sigh} throw a couple of strikes for me the next time you visit!

?New? most certainly does not mean, ?better?. I just visited with my girlfriend and her two foster siblings. The one foster sibling, his name is Michael, only has one leg and is wheelchair bound. We saw online that this establishment was open today and wheelchair accessible. To sum things up, it is most certainly NOT wheelchair accessible. My girlfriend and I had to carry his wheelchair up a lip to get to the building, THEN carry him once more, up an even higher lip to get through the front door. I th

I wanna say that it's not fair when you pay to bowl for 3 hrs then get told after 2 that they are closing early because no one was there. Ummmm exscueme but we paid for 3hrs no good seriously. I will never go back. Then bartender charged me 6.50 for a drink and boyfriend goes in and she charges him 4.50 for sane drink smh not a good place to go

Very fun, but very busy. If you dont make reservations, you will wait for a lane. I live 5 mins away, so its convenient for me and my family, when we want to have fun and drinks

I went here for a child's birthday party. The staff was very friendly, prompt, and courteous. The whole place was clean and very kid friendly.

Rat droppings all over the facility nasty rude workers and dirty food prep areas food taste like cleaner not cleaned bathrooms poor management and a bug and rat problem not up to date every thing is dirty looking , food area and bar is gross they don't clean well I seen it with own eyes went with family on a Sunday DIRTY!!!

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Why are arcade prize games so exciting to play?

Arcade prize games are a thrilling highlight in 2025! Claw machines, skee-ball, and ticket-redemption games like basketball offer a rush of skill and chance, with rewards like plushies, toys, or electronics up for grabs. Modern machines feature vibrant lights, digital scoreboards, and responsive controls, amplifying the fun. The lively arcade atmosphere, with cheering crowds and buzzing energy, makes every win feel epic.
