McAlester, Oklahoma 74501
Larry Bernhardt, local McAlester business owner, built Great Balls of Fire to compliment his retro playground of the now quiet Happy Days Hotel, along with the Angel's Diner. It's hilariously oversized neon signage reading, "Great Balls of Fire" is a nod to the song of the same name by Jerry Lee Lewis, a pioneer of rock n' roll and rockabilly. Traffic on US 69 rolls past on the same road that once carried Choctaw coal and restless vacationers through Oklahoma red dirt. Inside the lanes keep clattering, back
There bowling ?? prices are reasonable. Had more fun at the slots.
5 out of the 10 arcade games didn't work the place looked run down and nothing really for little kids to do. 90% of the bowling balls we're to small for normal size hands so finding a ball that you could use was a chore. The whole staff was high school kids except for the bar tender in the bar area. The place could make a lot of money if they would update it and do the upkeep on it. But you can tell whoever owns it doesn't care for it or has no interest whatsoever in keeping it up to date. I would not recom
Had a great time here. $22 for 2 games of bowling. Highly recommend. Very clean establishment
Great time, great food, bathrooms clean and family friendly. Could use some updating but most of Mcalester could
Lots of fun game options. There are arcade games, bowling, rock climbing, laser tag and bumper cars. You can have birthday parties or just a fun afternoon. The arcade games can get expensive, they are $1-2 each but are all very modern and mostly interactive.
We enjoyed the bowling with it being our son's birthday. Manager is a very good guy and the staff that we encountered were very helpful and nice. The arcade are really nice for the ones that are up and running. I am looking forward to seeing it when the remolding is finished. We all had an amazing time there.
My daughter & friends had a blast bowling (the arcade part was closed..maybe because we went late?) The workers were exceptionally helpful and friendly. Great family atmosphere :)
Cue Sports Family Billiard LLC has moved all pooltables into Great Ball of Fire as of 2024
My husband and I took our 2 kids here 4 days ago. We enjoyed the experience. I was a little hesitant because of some of the bad reviews. We didnt want to drive over an hour and a half to come to GBOF and it be a waste but I'm glad I decided to give GBOF a chance. We ate dinner at the cafe and the food was great. Hands down the best fries and fried pickles around. We bowled one game. The balls did keep getting stuck but the next person would bowl and the ball would unstick. This helped so we wouldn't have to
New to McAlester and OK. Saw this funplex, and totally regret walking thru the dilapidated doors. During COVID this place does not routinely clean surfaces, and shoves families right next to other families. 8 groups bowling, and instead of distancing across 8 pairs of lanes they used 4 pairs. No distancing at all. Lighter balls get lost in the ball return and the floor grips the shoes. The Game Zone is a depressing experience. Of 35 activities 15 were non-functional. Lazer Tag, the Climbing Wall and the Bum
Went in to play some pool last night. The bartender was a sweet girl who made good drinks. We had a couple of appetizers - the fried pickles and the fried mushrooms - both came out hot, crispy, and delicious! Will return again.
bowled a tournament there the owners and staff are extremely friendly had a great time food is great bathrooms are very clean and keep up Hugh game room for kids will definitely be going back
Fun place to go, good selection of games, and family friendly
Great staff, great food and great place to have family fun or date night
Great for the whole fam bam
Great place to take family...they loved it
Would have given 5 stars if it wasn't extremely hot in there!! Other than that it was fun prices were good we had fun!
In McAllister for business and needed a break. Went bowling and had a fantastic time. Really great place for adults and families.
Super cool place we went bowling with the family and my lil bro won an Nintendo switch out the claw machine!!! All he spent was 6 dollars too of course he gets all the luck lol would definitely come back!
if youre looking for an arcade stay as far away as physically possible. this is by far the saddest arcade i have EVER seen. spent 100 dollars and they refused to refund the left over money on my cards. 85 percent of the games here are completely non functional. entire place is falling apart at the seems. never come here, God only knows how this place has 4 stars.
Walked in at 11pm, website says closes at 2am. We wanted to bowl 4 games each with rental shoes. We were told close at midnight and only had time for one game! We left, I am not renting shoes for just one game! Been regulars the last couple of months, im in the area every weekend and like to bowl, but now may never return, disappointed!!!
Had a great time bowling, the night bowling guy was super awesome and friendly. Helped us find our way around. We were sad not to get to eat any of the food they were advertising on the screens as it looked yummy and we were hungry. But the cafe is closed. :/ otherwise, really nice place, and nice staff.
The place is getting really good they slowly got a lot of stuff there The bowling fun but the arcade is getting so much better I have one recommended getting sum old classic game Pac-Man mortal combat etc!
Walked in on a Sunday a few minutes after 7. The whole place was dark with the exception of the bowling alley. A few girls before us asked to bowl and they were turned away. My husband and I were with our two boys, it's was only going to be 3 actually bowling. She said, ?we're closed?. I said you your website says 8, we just wanted to bowl one round. She responds with ?we aren't technically closed until 8 but last round of bowling has to start by 7:15?. I look down at my phone and replied that it was 7:11.
This may be the most beautiful bowling alley I've ever seen. The game room left some to be desired, but not much. Really an amazing place to spend the whole day with the family. The managers were great.
Went last night for the first time in a long time. When first arriving we were pleased our card from over 3 years ago still had its tickets on it. It was around 10:30pm when we came on a Saturday night (they close at 2am sat nights) Unfortunately bumper cars were "closed for the night" although in the past we've never had this issue. I believe since there was only one person working the entire place, besides the bar, he just didn't want or have time to run it for us. Laser tag and the rock wall were also un
Goodness. Gracious. Great Balls of Fire exceeded our expectations as out of town guests. Come for the great bowling screen animations, stay for Tanner who played the music we wanted over the sound system! We'll *spare* you all the details, but all in all great experience. Come on down and *strike* gold!
Reasonably priced bowling. The arcade section definitely needs some maintenance as 1/3 of the games were out of order or had defects. Overall, great place for some afternoon or evening entertainment with the kids.
Mr. and Mrs. Morris are Great business owners and very knowledgeable about being creative with the you of today. Thank you for always giving back to all of us.
On a Saturday in the summer, only 1 employee was working. We had called a few days in advance to reserve 3 lanes for 15 bowlers, so we had lanes but had quite a bit of a wait to get checked in and get shoes. It was extremely hot to the point everyone in our party was sweating, red faced and uncomfortable. The employee was running the front desk, the snack shop and the game area (where only about 1/2 of the games worked) so when we needed drinks, we had to wait on him to make his way back to that area to hel
They are indeed still in business and we had a blast. 3 kids and 3 adults. We received prompt service and the guy was very accommodating. Thank you and we can't wait to go back!
It's pretty fun, there are a few arcade machines that don't work, but it's still fun. Their food isn't too bad, and bowing with family and friends is fun. I would go there again.
The bowling alley was extremely warm for anyone to bowl comfortable while it was 73 outside it was about 85 inside. Also if you don't finish the games you paid for you can't get a refund. I think this is extremely poor business practices. I'll never return to bowl either open or during league.
Could use a little TLC. The bowling part is always nice and clean. The arcade part could use some work, there's usually always some game out of order, and alot of the smaller prize boxes are empty. Staff are friendly.
All of the workers were extremely nice, but 95% of all the games on the arcade side are down, and 95% of the prize case was empty. Kind of disappointing. It'd be a great place if they took pride in it.
Rating this low because there is a special/promo on their website for $50 for a party of 8. They would not honor it. They said they were under new management. My hope is they see this and take that promo down. It is not the customers fault and they didn't want to do anything to make things right.
My family met at Great Balls of Fire. We had a great time. The staff was very friendly. I would recommend this place for adults, teenagers and children that just want to have a great time. We had lots of fun.
Love this place!! ??????
Oh..boy....this place ..if your looking for family fun...arcade games...rock climbing walls and go carts! Go somewhere else this place is where video games and fun goes to die ..they have a total of 7 games out of the 20 that work (somewhat) they kept the lights off in the arcade the whole time..it felt like an episode of 5 nights at Freddy's..the prize counter looked like a mix of stuff bought on a whim at Walgreens and a compilation of someone's junk drawer brought from home ..the claw machines were fille
The games usually are broken and it's boring. It's run down and needs a lot of work to be great as it once was! I have been twice and my kids have been there several times, not really worth going back.
Went to a birthday party of my son's class mate. My boys had a blast running around playing with all the kids. Wore them both out. They slept great. Might have my son's next birthday party there.
Fun place for the little kids and the big kids
Games higher price per play than other places but may play longer. Drinks are too expensive- $5.50 for large drink
It was horrible. Bar was closed, half the very little selection of arcade games didn't work, lazer tag was closed, bumper cars were closed, and at least half of their arcade selection they got rid of, outside of building is filthy, and the manager was cooking food with his unwashed bare hands after handling money and debit cards. Food and drinks are over priced and not good. Will never go back.
This place was a complete waste of money. Half the games were out of order. And between my 2 kids and me, we got 200 tickets. They got a piece of candy each. Got to The district in Durant. Now they know what they are doing!!
There going to need John taffer from ?bar rescue? for this joint, it's white owned & not friendly I came from Louisiana with famliy & worst experience I put my kids through I figured it would be a fun place for them, I was wrong this place needs to improve asap
Dont bother bringing the kids to this place. Majority of the games dont work and never a clear sign to let u know. Some games that do work , dont work properly. Looks like a place that's going out of business. Only reason to go to this place would be too bowl. The balls suck and clearly the lanes are not level. Huge disappointment...
Could be open more days of the week instead of just the weekend! Only reason for giving 2 stars. Everything else is ??!!
They prize lady was very rude and had a attitude towards me when I asked her a simple question she got mad other then that it's fun
I only gave it a star cause i had to me my wife and buddy went tonight he bought a couple game cards we walked around the game room half of the games were broke we tried basketball and the balls were flat and only one came through then got stuck after one shot went and got $1 back then tried skeet ball and it would not eject the balls got our $1 back from that one also we got to walking around and seen the only games left on were kidy games they looked broke and even the prize cases were nearly empty so he
I used to love this place, but it went downhill, and now they don't even update their website on when they are open. It just says it is open all the time, waste of gas and money.
Showed up at 10 pm and was told there was no lanes available and there was already other people waiting so we couldn't wait to bowl. Mutiple lanes was empty was told those was broken.Bumper cars closed rock wall closed laser tag closed. Lady working the counter was kinda rude. Don't know if we will return again.
For the sake of bowling it's a great place. However...the lady's restrooms are nasty. The couches by the bowling lanes are a great touch but they are pretty nasty too. Not a real clean place.
worst arcade ive ever seen in my entire life. wouldnt bring my worst enemy here as a prank. this place just sucks. its a shame, it was a fantastic arcade half a decade ago.
Good place to take the family out and have some fun
The owner James Dean is a great person. I just show up and practice for leagues in August, and he gives me a bowling ball. How awesome is that??
Such a fun place they have bowling, arcade, laser tag, great place to take your family or friends and great for kids but the food is way expensive and some of the games didnt work or were all beat up i suggest eating somewhere else before going for fun.
Took our basketball team there. Great friendly staff and great experience. Highly recommend it.
With it being one of the only entertainment sources in town it's ok. Conversation prices are fine. Staff is ok. Cleanliness is ok. For coming gettin a big city, game prices are cheap.
This place was terrible, nothing worked and the ticket booth was crazy I mean 20 tickets for a jolly rancher!! Looked cool on website so we took the kids and they hated it!!!! Won't be back!!!
Please fix your pool sticks get so new ones because theres not even enough for all the pool tables
I'm ready to have fun next Fri. and hopefully meet new people since I know no one. I'm excited to start meeting people because I haven't so far!
Bowling lanes are always causing troubles. Tickets for prizes are to high and not alot of games. This place just gets worse.
Great place for family fun!! Very courteous and kind employees. We will definitely come back!!
Friendly employees, great prices on games. Food could do better, but its still pretty good for bar food.
Me and my family and friends go to GBOF any time we can to just go out and have fun I recommend that some more people do the same
Reasonable in price but needs to be updated and new equipment like shoes and loaner bowling balls food is ok people are nice
I work here and I bring my family here and would recommend it to anyone for a fun family outing with family members of any age they can have fun here
Thought we would have a good night out with the kids bought out "tokens" half the machines didn't work, or atebthe miney and wouldn't let the kids play and we couldn't even find anyone to complain to ended up walking out with some very disappointed kids!
Was very disappointed. Rude service. No bumper cars, no rock wall, laser tag closed, alot of games didn't work and not much to choose from on prizes. AC WAS NOT WORKING! IT WAS VERY HOT!
The only bowling alley in town. Lanes are OK but expensive. Don't bother with the games, several broken or just don't work right.
So many things to do. Very reasonable prices. Blast for kids of all ages. Bowling, bumper cars, rock climbing and Lazer tag!!!!
Thank you so much for making our girl's birthday so special! Sorry we kept you a bit late!
Outdated and old. Very limited on games and entertainment. Best to drive to Tulsa if your looking for that kind of fun.
Every Saturday we go to bowl and we have a wonderful time they have food, bar, arcade games
Had a great time with the family! Definitely can't wait to come back.
Best kids birthday party place in town! It was a very memorable wonderful evening!!
it was ok alot of the games are down or broken and they did not even have enough game cards for everyone
This place seems in decline. Had fun with my kid but she's a lot easier to impress.
Great place to take the family for fun. There's something for everyone to enjoy.
There isnt much for kids to do half the games didnt work at all or tore up need more people helping cook food ...
Went there, most games were put of service. Bowling was outrageously expensive. Food is meh
Nice place to bowl. Downsides is half the games are broken and it was extremely hot on the bowling side.
Great place to hang out with the family. It's our favorite place to take everyone when the family gets together in Mcalester.
Had a birthday party for my daughter. Was a lot of fun. Kids really had a good time
Really lousy place, nothing open,We didn't stay long,We just got there looked around, checked what was open but to see that nothing was open but games and you can only play 5 games if you play the $1 ones, Then we left
Small arcade only 1 of the bumper cats work. Expensive food. Mainly good for bowling.
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
