Customer Reviews

Don't understand the hate on this shop, the ice cream is delicious!! They have original flavors, Cookie Monster, Strawberry Shortcake (with real cheesecake) as well as traditional flavors. The service was excellent. Highly recommend!

I went here once before and tried their ice cream, which was good. Wanted to try their hot dogs, specifically the Southern Dog. So I went at 7 PM Sunday and they would not serve me because they had already closed the kitchen, 30 minutes early. This was after visiting at 1:45 PM and finding that they don't open until 2. As limited as their hours are, it seems to me that they would serve customers for the entire time they are supposedly open. From comments by employees, it sounds like their food trucks have p

They were very good up until about the last year. They are always out of several ice cream flavors anytime that you go and the lack of offering has progressively gotten worse over the last year or so.

I got a scoop of cookies and cream ice cream from their food truck and it was really good. You can't go wrong with cookies and cream. Friendly service as well!

It's such a wonderful little ice cream spot! They even have little handheld retro games on each table to play while you eat! My ice cream was so good I ate the whole thing and I almost never finish my ice cream! My 5-year-old thought this place was so cool, she wants to come back asap!

Order Ruben hotdog, no pork or bbq sauce. Got a hotdog added bacon but they didn't tell me out of bacon until charged and noticed there wasn't any. The ice cream is the only reason for 2 stars. 30min wait for a hot dog and a grilled cheese?

Good ice cream but expensive. This place has nostalgic 50?s decor.

This is technically a review for Golden Years' food truck, as I haven't had the chance to make it out to their storefront. The truck came to a neighborhood near me a few weeks ago, so I thought I'd try it out that way! Their truck has a pretty good set of offerings: deli sandwiches and lots of hot dogs with different fixings. They also serve ice cream and milkshakes from the truck, which is kind of unusual! Their hot dogs are quarter pound and all beef. I'm boring when it comes to my hot dogs, so I as

Amazing food and ice cream and really amazing theme, keep it up

The food was great and the staff was super helpful and friendly. They talked to us about the food, made recommendations and just gave great service all around. There were board games and video games to play as we waited. I had a Chicago dog, fries and a shake and it was delicious. I will definitely go back when I'm in the area again. There's several things on the menu I still want to try!

One of the best family restaurants in the area. The food and ice cream are amazing but what makes it stand out is the atmosphere. From the retro decor to all the board games you can play at your table, Golden Years is a unique and amazing family experience. To top it off, the service is super friendly as well. We will definitely be back.

This place has a great selection of ice cream and a wonderful retro atmosphere. With the new management, comes the addition of a fresh cooked hot menu. The burger took a while to make, but no more time than a regular restaurant. I haven't tried everything, but the burger was amazing. I'd definitely recommend giving it a try.

Great little icecream parler with old rockabilly style and vintage items every where you look. Awesome tasting chili dogs I highly recommend you trying along with vanilla malt. Definitely glad to have old fashioned ice cream parlor in our neighborhood. Definitely can say it's treat coming here.

Very disappointing service tonight. My ice cream was fine but the girls working were very unprofessional. Laughing and cutting up with each other the entire time we were trying to order. One girl even literally slung ice cream on the wall because it was on her finger. The same girl then proceeded to let us know that they were closing in 7 minutes but made sure we knew she meant it ?in the nicest way?. By the way, the website says they close at 10 but they actually close at 9. Also, they charge $.60 for usin

I've been wanting to stop here since we moved to Hazel Green in March. So glad we finally stopped yesterday for an afternoon banana split. 36 flavors of ice cream to choose from! My mom and I couldn't even make a dent in the massive split they served us - but it was DELICIOUS!! The burgers and hot dogs all looked and smelled divine, too! Can't wait to go back next week for a meal and more sweet treats.

This is one of the most personal reviews I am going to ever leave. First off, my 52 year old mother passed away in February due to an unexpected heart attack. Her favorite flavor ice cream has always been mocha almond fudge, a flavor I haven't been able to find anywhere for years. I about bursted into bittersweet tears when I saw Golden Years carried literally that exact flavor, recipe and all, behind their counter. The employees were so kind and willing to hear my story. My boyfriend and I had came in with

The ownership of this place has changed in the last couple of months and now the place has lost everything that made it great. The service is slow and everyone has an almost creepy demeanor. It just has a weird vibe now. They also slashed the menu, which sucks because there used to be a good variety of quick bites which, despite being simple were actually prepared with some skill and thought. We've tried it twice with the new owners and we were going to give it one last shot tonight, but after being in the

Great ice cream, worst hours of any business I've ever seen. They're closed during the day and afternoon. Only open during rush hour, after adults have already gotten off worst and it's nearly impossible to stop on 431. Don't even know why they keep paying their rent, stupidest hours of any business I've ever seen in 30 years.

Such a cute place. Very family friendly. Great ice cream

Oh my how we enjoyed this place so much!! It took us back in time to the good old days! My family lives in Florence Al a hour and a half away and we will definitely be back. Played games, had old fashioned milkshakes, and ate. The service and atmosphere was GREAT!!

My wife and I are locals and decided to give this place a try today. The only word that really comes to mind is just... weird. I can see they were going for the old timey look, but it's really just coming off as a run down look. The employees had a bunch of their friends hanging out in the store and in the parking lot which gave the place a really weird vibe. Noticed several times the cook running outside messing with his car and then coming back in and working without washing his hands. The young girl also

Amazing nostalgic family owned Ice Cream Parlor & Diner! They have everything from board games to classic retro arcade games. Service is always fast and friendly! The food and ice cream is delicious! You have to stop in and try everything!

Came here for the monthly car show and ice cream. Nice place with good parking. The serve 36 flavors. A really good family spot. We will come back for the burgers next time.

This is my absolute favorite place to get some comfort food! The shakes and cones are delicious, the burgers are mouth watering good. The service has always been great, and the price is just right for the ammount of food and quality of food.

Recently we worked with Golden Years for thier Icecream truck to come to an event. It was a great experience all the way around !! Thier operation that day was seemless and I saw so many happy faces with those cold tasty treats on a hot day.

Love the atmosphere but showed up 2 and a half hours before closing (which is 8pm on a Sunday) with three young kiddos excited to eat there for dinner only to be told that they had closed the kitchen down early with the excuse that the girl that was working wasn't even supposed to be working because of the cold weather. Lost my business, and left me and the kids disappointed.

Our server Abby was on point. She was great and so was the food! This place is so cool. With it's step back in time theam, there is something cool to look at and talk about every where you look. Yes, you should check them out.

I've been here several times trying to get ice cream and it is never open. At least 4 seperate times in the last couple weeks.

The quesadilla we got was excellent and the ice cream was really good! They have an arcade too which was cool, and very friendly staff. Food was ready fast and so was ice cream. I would definitely recommend!

Great place and great people here. Sadly I heard a rumor of them closing and today was the first time I have went in and made a purchase from them . Hopefully the rumor is false. My banana pudding shake was off the chain

Not impressed wanted to take the kids there after school they were so excited to play games after ice cream and they were told only one game didn't work but none of the work but the Ms. Pacman. They were at disappointed. I think next time beat to find somewhere else, I mean you can get ice cream in alot of other places.

is there an option for negative 3 stars? no okay Cute place BUT Service was horrible. Asked for 3 milk shakes ended up waiting almost an hour. People who came in afterwards were getting their stuff before they even started making ours. If your looking for a quick in and out. AVOID this place at all costs. No respect for peoples time.

I was recently in there on a Friday night and ordered the Bama BBQ sandwich and the employee behind the counter said he was low on the bacon and decided to knock a dollar off my order. I am a loyal customer since the first time I tried them months ago. Thanks for your business and I will always be coming back in the future.

The food is great as is the service very family friendly and cheap with great ice cream. It definitely gives off a 80s vibe with all the old games, but had a wonderful time there.

Wonderful family stop. Not just ice cream, the food is wonderful, and the atmosphere is family friendly 1950's to 1980's. We love playing board games and pinball.

Felt "hurried" to order and eat at 7:45pm. Girl started mopping floors around us at 8:30pm while we were still eating and finishing up. Very rude. Not the same family atmosphere as when SgtMaj owned it. Probably not going back. :-(

Retro style ice cream, hotdogs, burgers. The whole family enjoyed our visit. Decent chicago dog. Good ice cream. Friendly small town vibe.

I never knew this place was here and I've lived up the road for 20 years. Now that I do know though we will frequent it more often. I was affordable and we enjoyed our time outside eating ice cream. White chocolate raspberry is where it's at y'all! #tryit

The food truck came to our neighborhood and me and the kids had sandwiches and hotdogs and ice cream and it was all AMAZING!! We have never eaten there before but we will be sure to start!! Great food and all quality ingredients!!

Although it's a simple menu (hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken fingers, etc) the food is good and the desserts are amazing. Put all of that in a fun atmosphere with prices that are hard to beat, and it's hard not to like this place.

I hate to complain because it's a really neat place, but when you have two kids working behind the counter and no other customers, 25 minutes is too long to wait on a hotdog. You wont get many repeating customers that way.

We visit Golden Years every year when we go strawberry picking. We always enjoy it. The service, food, and prices are great!

The service was slow, food was very mediocre, ice cream taste freezer burnt, and me and another woman stood at the counter for about 4 minutes waiting for maybe one of two girls to get unburied from their phones long enough to notice we were waiting for service. Unfortunately they did not and the other woman waiting with me finally went over to their table and asked for service. I will not be returning here.

Price for the sandwiches are a bit steep, but with everything else higher in price it is understandable. Great taste and the ice cream was so good!

10 foot soft serve balloon on top of the food truck and they don't serve soft serve ice cream!!?? Scoop ice cream and waffle cone good but not like soft serve.

Delicious ice cream and friendly staff. They let you try the flavors before picking what you'd like. They also have good food

Very tasty ice cream. We came in with a group and everyone was served cheerfully. The decor is fun, car memorabilia and 50s.

Great Dutch chocolate malt! Plenty of cool items to look at and old school video games to play. Prices are great, next time I will get some food too??

Definitely a complete 180 from the last owners after Lopez thank y'all so much for bringing this place back to life we have always enjoyed eating dinner here and having some good ice cream and shakes after every sport event when Lopez had it looking forward to come back here again very prompt and attentive

Love the games, the ice cream and the old fashioned back in the day memories. Great place for a date. Many ice cream flavors to choose from and enjoy!

this place is like my home and very friendly, very retro atmosphere and the food is amazing and so many ice cream options that are so good i love this place

My son and I ate there tonight and everything was amazing ?? Will definitely go back as often as possible!!

Great burgers, and ice cream, I always take my kids there as a treat for making good grades. Great place to kick back and relax.

Great ice cream and a really cool diner/arcade vibe. We're definitely coming back.

Love this place. Old fashioned atmosphere, friendly service, and the best ice cream I've had since childhood.

Awesome place for ice cream very friendly. A place that takes you back to the good lod days 50's and 60's.

2nd time in a month we've checked the business?s hours and drive 20+ minutes it's complete darkness. We arrived at 8:10 and on the phone and online time says 8:30. They were closed.

Food and environment were amazing. It is cooked to order so have some patience after ordering. Burgers are fire!!

came in 4 ppl there was told hold on man was making a milk shake so sat down with 3 kids patiently waiting for nearly 10 min and wasn't even looked up at after he got done. so we even left and he said thank y'all when we left ha

Friendly service and ice cream was delicious! I got chocolate espresso and the hubs got O?Charley?s caramel pie

Great ice cream, friendly staff, and great size servings. My favorite ice cream shop in the Huntsville area.

Mint chocolate chip ice cream milkshake was fine, but the burgers taste microwaved and the fries reheated.

Good ice cream and very kid friendly.

We had hamburgers and fries with a chocolate shake. Fantastic service. We love going here and playing the games.

Cute little ice cream shop! Great prices and great ice cream! Definitely stop by and check them out!

So here's the deal .. if you want a second to none banana split .. these folks are the it!!!!

Great atmosphere! Ordered the Bama BBQ Burger it was great. Service was very slow.

This little shop takes you back with its nostalgic ambiences. The food is delicious and the ice cream is amazing!!!

Staff is rude and seems like they would rather business be dead than have customers. I ordered the same thing I've always ordered and was basically argued with that I was wrong on what I ordered. Ruined my experience, doubt I'll be back.

Very good ice cream, people are friendly and they also serve food!

Friendly staff, very delicious chocolate malts and chili dogs. Will be back to visit soon.

Awesome hot dogs and ice cream. Owner was super friendly!

I wish I had more of a variety of food if you're going to go to a old 60s Diner you always need cheeseburger and fries but everything else it was spot-on

Most fun I've cream shop around. Excellent quality, prices and serving sizes.

Love the place. Cool atmosphere good food and great service. Cant wait to go back

So many flavors to choose from! Banana split was excellent with freshly cut strawberries!

Great ice cream. Older feel and great customer service

Great place and great ice cream. Facility itself is small and cramped.

Good burgers and great ice cream in a fun 50's style diner.

I loved it. Great ice cream! Great service.

What a cute place. Wonderful selection of ice cream flavors.

Fried cherry pie ice cream. My favorite. Love this place

It was very good. good service. They ran out of chocolate syrup

The guys are awesome people! Dulce de Leche ice cream is so good!

Very disappointed that you didn't post your Father's Day hours early enough to save us a trip back into Huntsville.

Took my Granddaughter there for her birthday we all had a good time

Great post to have a nice ice cream cone

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
