Reviews Summary

Many customers praise the store's retro game selection, knowledgeable staff, and fast, affordable repairs, often highlighting excellent service and fair pricing. However, some negative reviews mention poor trade-in offers, inconsistent pricing, and occasional unprofessional behavior. While most experiences are highly rated, a few customers feel misled or dissatisfied with policies and transparency. Customer Reviews

Went because of the reviews but was not satisfied at all! Most of the consoles and games are overpriced. Not to mention they stamp there disc twice with there logo! Customer service is lackluster and not there unless your spending alot it seems. In my opinion, don't waste your time at this store go check out one of the Fallouts or Gaming zone!

Came here and had immediate buyer?s remorse over something I purchased. I asked if I could get a refund and the dude who helped me out was really cool and gave me full store credit. I got 2 switch games that I've had my eye on for a while for such a good price. What a cool place. Their selection is awesome, will be returning

Been coming here now for a couple years. The owner and staff are awesome to talk to and very helpful and knowledgeable. They can fix just about any issue with game systems vintage or modern and a lot of times they can help by giving you a quote for repair right then in their store because they have repaired so many systems with issues.

I've been a fan and customer of Game Smash for a year or so. My dad was seeking out some old Nintendo games for us so we could get a chance to experience the mechanics of older games and we were so pleased with the selection. Every time we've went, we've been cared for by the staff who are filled with a plethora of console, electronic, and gaming knowledge. Xavier C has been our sales clerk the past two times I've been in - he bought some old games off of me and I, in turn, cashed in some store credit for s

Had a great experience at Game Smash, I stopped by to pick up a retro video game adapter for my newly picked up Super NES. Unfortunately the adapter didn't produce a great picture, I called the store to ask about starting a return and although there was a bit of confusion regarding the store?s return policy they got me taken care of as they have a 24 hour buyer?s remorse policy. They have a wide selection of games for all kinds of consoles ranging from PS1 to Gameboy at fair prices. I highly recommend stopp

Drove umpteen miles across town all out of the way after calling to be told they had 2 copies of New Super Mario brothers just for my son to get there and be told they are missing. The old yeah we got it just to get you to come to the store trick. Get em got em good.

Wife came in and bought a PS4 on Sunday and the worker was very nice and helpful! Store had a great selection and staff was great. Love local businesses and will be stopping by again.

Pretty good store IMO. Me and my girl had fun time reminiscing on older games and scooped some up for a good price! All in great condition. Some of the comments here are a bit harsh too. I think overall good prices, chill dude, and good selection. Will be back again thanks.

My experience at gameSmash was so good, I had to make an account just to leave them a review. I thought I could fix my broken PS5 myself, I ended up causing more damage and losing parts. The guys here stepped up and helped me out and got me going again ??!!!! Their prices where far less than that unbreak place, had it done in just 1 day instead of a week, and replaced the screws and other parts I lost at no charge. You guys saved my weekend! ????

This store is awesome, however there are key factor to this place . Number 1 do not bring in newer consoles they don't know how or what to do to solve the error problem on you're consoles. I been to multiple stores that fix consoles. There feed back when I told them about this place . We get alot of people with there consoles not working at this places. Take pictures of everything you take if they are going to fix it . Cause they will pull some move on you if it damage. I noticed people consoles just sta

Prices are according to price chart, brought in my old pokemon gba games for them to replace the batteries and they chipped the cartridge during the repair, did not realize this till after I've gone home. Definitely disappointed in that.

Four and a half stars. Game smash Is an amazing retro game store, and by far one of the best I've been to. The trade in prices are very reasonable. And the prices of the consoles and games are great and not overpriced, I do have one complaint though, they won't give you a price for trade in items over the phone, I find this very irritating especially because I live 30+ mins away, not a super big deal.

Repeat customer here. They've had everything I've ever asked for in stock, not to mention they've also helped troubleshoot consoles for me. They sell games for almost every type of popular console made. They carry some original accessories and 3rd party aftermarket accessories as well. Some of the games for sale do not come with cases, some do. Some have repro print case covers. You can ask for a resurface on a disc if it seems questionable, and they'll even test it for you. Prices are decent, though

This place is so great I found so many great old titles for decent prices and amazing customer service this place is my go to place to pick up anything retro or new and it tops all other retro place. not only that they do console cleaning and repairs as well as disc cleanings now I can play all my scratched games too thank you game smash

So I've gone to a lot of different used video game stores in state and out of state and game smash is one of those ones that has just stood out amongst all the other one I've been too. They're very friendly the moment you walk in super talkative super knowledgeable about all the products that they have on hand and they do repairs for devices a lot of places traditionally do that including old arcade machine restoration to laptop repairs and consoles. it's a very welcoming and friendly environment. The mom

Me and my family have come here a few times now we absolutely love it. The last time we went the people are super nice knowledgeable in anything gaming helped us find a game we've been looking for and even went out of there way to help us find another one we're looking for. Great guys our new go to for anything retro gaming.

I love this store it has so many retro games and consoles, cords and controllers and many other accessories. there repair times are unbeatable and amazing prices on everything in store

They did an hdmi port repair for me. Super affordable, and I got same day service. Thanks for saving my playstation 5 guys!

They carry alot of retro game/s and retro game related items. Same with new game/s and new game related items. You really have to come in and check the place out for yourself. A hidden gem is what you hear about shops like this one alot since it's a really neat shop. They carry a whole lot of stuff.

TL;DR: Store with an ?every items [sic] guaranteed to work? promise on their receipt sells items not guaranteed to work. This story started so well? I purchased a game for my Nintendo 3DS, a game I had been wanting for a while. Excitedly, I brought it home and went to test it in my functioning 3DS system and it failed to even read. After verifying it wasn't my system, I gently cleaned the cartridge with a Q-tip and scrutinized it only to see there was a long deep scratch along on of the contact points on t

I'm an OTR truck driver, and I have been having problems with my PS4 blue screening. The problem was that the HDMI connector in the back of my PS4 broke from bouncing while I'm driving. They found the problem and fixed it for a reasonable price. Now I know to unplug the HDMI cable from the PS4 when I'm driving. I am so glad that I found Game Smash!!

Prices are on the high side and they print a lot of their own covers for some games they only have the disk for, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just be mindful when you shop. This place does have Sega Dreamcast and Sega Saturn games so I'll give them points for that

Took my PS5 to get fixed. Picked it up the very next day. Very helpful staff and very courteous. Highly recommend

I like this place. It has a bit of an aesthetic that reminds me of the old Electronics Boutique from the '90s. I've seen some people complain about prices but don't forget that a lot of what they sell is no longer in production or out of print. There is value in such things if you are willing to pay.

Worth the money spent! My PS4 is as quiet as it was brand new! The before was crazy?? but once again the results are unreal. 10/10 would recommend!!! Go here if you need your gaming systems cleaned!!

Love this place! They have a great game selection from consoles ranging from atari to ps5. They have the most games I have seen from a game store. Definitely check this place out if you love video games or just in the area.

Went in bought a game along with two other items I've been looking for. When I got home to play the game I noticed the cartridge of the DS game was pretty beat up like dings and kinks. Already pretty annoyed (I wouldn't have bought if I saw this first hand) because I've never seen a cartridge in that bad of condition. I just said ?oh well cut my losses on the cart and move on.? But the game ended up not working. The following day i drove back up to return it. Mind you every time is about about 45 minute to

Wonderful and friendly staff prices are reasonable for an independent shop. Would recommend anyone to come here for repairs or for hard to find games.

I took my PS5 to this place to get it fixed for a freezing issue and it was 100 dollars. 2 days later I go and pick it up cause they told me they fixed it and I take it home and have the same issue I took it back to them the next day and 3 days later they told me it was fixed and I picked it up and it still freezes. At this point im tired of driving back and forth and wanted a refund but they said they're no refunds and they just keep trying until it's fixed but they don't even test it to see if it's fixed.

Xavier was great and helped me choose a super Nintendo ???? I came back and picked up a few SneS games! I love this place ??

I bought a gameboy from the store it cost 183$ And dkoldies was overpriced they were going to charge me 300$ I will recommend. To go there

Need better displays, store not that orangized and display Nintendo or Atari games either in a glass case or shelfs.Employee only interested in being on his phone. Poorly kept store take pride.Display common games and rare games better, no matter what game system it is

Everyone?s experience is different. My experience with GS was Great!. Went in for a console not turning on. Got a call in about a day or two ( after diag). Found the problem and with the replacement (part) approval the guys got it done & make sure my console was back in action. I will definitely recommend the GS to service & repair any issues with your consoles.

Good communication and good prices and very fast working. Ps5 still working without turning off every 20 minutes after they worked on it

This game store is awesome for retro gaming fans, with a great selection of classics and reasonable prices. However, I do have two questions: Why do y?all put a purple seal on the disks you buy? And why do reprinted copies have the same price as non-reprinted outer box art? Otherwise, it's a solid spot for nostalgic games and collectibles!

Called to ask about Wii parts, very helpful staff. Had everything I needed. Worth your time!

Always friendly staff. With great prices. And excellent selection.

I've been coming here for the better part of 6 years. This is my most frequented game store in the valley but after my experience today, I'm done coming here. The customer service has been getting worse with each visit. Today I stood at the counter trying to look at the SNES games that are very inconveniently placed, and the guy working behind the counter seemed to pretend I didn't exist and went to the back of the store. He didn't say a word to me. There were several games on my list that I was ready to

They had my favorite game in stock! I've been after this game for a year!!!! ??????

I went back to Game Smash to get another one of my gaming consoles repaired and once again the customer service and the prices are better than any other gaming store in the valley!!! So if you want to get your gaming system repaired or purchase any gaming hardware including games on discs I recommend you go to Game Smash!!!

I took my PS five to get the HDMI repaired. They did a wonderful job. It was fixed The same day I would definitely take it back. They were cool. I would definitely recommend GameSmash!!

Great little game store. Reminds me of the best aspects of old Gamestop and Funcoland. They had everything to choose from and staff that definitely know their stuff. Will definitely have to come back once I get some more of my old consoles hooked up

Overall impressive collection of games and very kind staff. This store has everything you could want from every generation of video games. Prices are determined by pricechartings website which is fair. Just unfortunate that what used to be a simple cheap hobby has turned so expensive ever since the pandemic.

Edit: These folks are rip-offs. I bring almost $200 worth of gaming stuff in excellent condition and they offer me $15 I bought a brand new battery for a psp with the old battery still in the system and they basically stole it and didn't bother giving me any cash for it. I can't recommend this place anymore. I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I regret it now. This place is absolutely ridiculous they have inflated prices that don't equal the value to what they are selling. I'm extremely fru

BUYERS BEWARE**** I'm really disappointed in the help i received today. I came in wanting to return a game i bought by mistake. Not knowing i already own at home. (Wanted to put that credit to another game) I was told i can not return due to having more than 24 hours (saying it looks like i just rented the game) I was not aware of this policy, and I told them they needed to write it down. On the receipt so this doesn't happen to anyone else. I was then told it was on my receipt. We checked my receipt to

Not too keen on the customer service so far over the phone. Dude didn't ask me any questions about my issue, nor did he provide any possible knowledge of my issue. Ill stop by, see how much service will cost me, and possibly update my review. Update!: I forgot! They told me there's no way to fix my Project Scorpio Xbox, and they'll take it off my hands. I said no, took it to a shop recommended by a friend, and lo and behold... $75 later, and my special edition xbox is fixed! Scum.

The MOST NOSTALGIC place I've found in Phoenix a MUST VISIT JIND OF PLACE IN MY BOOK!!! Staff are very welcoming, and very helpful no matter the question.

DO NOT COME HERE UNLESS YOU LIKE BEING SCAMMED! I will begin by saying 1 ?good? thing about this place, they give you a decent amount of trade in credit. Doesn't matter too much though since anything good they have is locked away in a seperate display you can't use store credit on. This place is easily the WORST retro video game store in the entire valley. It's almost as if they have a store policy that they can only take in games that have been stomped on or have had multiple liquids spilled on. Everything

Terrible workers, even worse store owner. Sold my S.O a defective copy of a game that had been returned, retagged, and resold multiple times over. My S.O tried to return for refund, but the owner was being dismissive and condescending. I never did like the owner of the store, as he always came off as stand-offish to me. We are NEVER doing business with these people ever again! They will sell you a game that doesn't work and make it seem like it's the buyer's fault said game doesn't work! Stick to buying old

Best game store to ever be made , they fix , trade , and buy damn near everything game wise ! Great people and great service ! Love these guys ! Be going here 10+ years never had a bad experience

Honestly They seemed like a good area to come. But They have no wiggle room for their customers. At all I had 2 games.I wanted to trade in for 1 game And they still wanted me to pay $37 out-of-pocket. Which was crazy to me. I know you're not running a charity but sometimes it's best to make your customers happy. Now I will be going and taking my money elsewhere THANKS FOR NOTHING

I was here shopping for some Super Nintendo titles for my dad when this lady came in complaining about a switch she had brought in for a repair. She kept complaining about the price of the repair and how it was too much, and she wouldn't be paying for it. The manager took great care to ensure they could peacefully come to an arrangement to solve the issue. She still kept insisting that she get her repair done for free or she would leave a bad review. I praise the manager for handling the issue and dealing w

False advertising on their posting on Offer up. They post the game I wanted for $99 When I got there and ask for it they wanted $150.00. They said that prices change every day. Even when I show them the post, they didn't honor the price of the posting. That's not right what they did. If that's not the price, then why advertise like that. I drove far to get this from them. I was willing to get the game and pay the price but not $50 extra for it. Very disappointed..

My PS4 Pro's power supply was stripped from the mother board after I changed the fan out, took it here for repair and it indeed is working perfectly now. Thankful and highly recommend Game Smash. Will be returning for purchases and any console repair needs I have.

Went to go see how much it would be to fix my switch, that my son dropped in water. Was told I'd be better off buying a new one. Checked around, and Nintendo will fix it for $100. Thanks for trying to hustle me. They wanted to get the money instead of helping out the customer on the best solution. Always do your research before taking their advice. Edit: That is only if the damage is too extensive. Also, it's still a much cheaper alternative which you could have recommended, but that also means you already

I wanna thank the guys at game Smash for fixing my PS5 ... GOD BLESS YOU

You guys always fix my game stations and the always within a week. thank you so much.

this isn't a place passionate about video games or the people who love them it's a business. strictly business. The employees, (in my experience) Tony are a bunch of smart allicks who are there simply to do their job and go home. when i walked in i got the usual ?welcome in? which i appreciate. i followed up with ?how are you doing? he just stared at me and looked away. no big deal though maybe he didn't hear me i thought to myself. as i go to check out with my trade ins ($8 of store credit on 5 games i bro

They have some GB and GBA games but nothing great. Prices are decent for a retail store. The reason I will not be back is the guys running this place are cold and not inviting. Just sat there as I wanted to ask a question and made me feel like I am not welcome. I will rake my business elsewhere. I am not taking bad vibes and customer service from some nerds,

A very large selection of games for a variety of new and old consoles

Have been coming to this location for the past three years, have had nothing but an amazing experience with all of the staff. Every item I have ever bought has been in amazing condition and has always been fairly priced, and the staff is always more then happy to work with me to help make sure I have an amazing experience. All of the staff that works here make sure they are knowledgeable in their product and are always so kind and opening. Truthfully feels like a place where I can always come and have a hap

The store is okay with some decent selection however they completely overprice their gaming consoles to the point its flatout laughable. Imagine paying 160 for a gamecube when you can go to one of the several fallout game locations and pay 90 for it with a 1 year warranty a first party Controller and a memory card

This place is a joke . Over priced and the greasy chub working the register was so rude . Never the again will I attempt to shop here .

I love this place, so much!!! When I first stepped inside the door I was about 5 years old. My father took me in, I don't remember what for at this point because I was in awe. Dan has watched me grow and is now getting to watch my sisters. When I think of a safe place, Game Smash (formerly fix n play) comes to mind. Pay them a visit, you won't be disappointed. :))

Extremely friendly and informative staff! They were able to test to make sure my old N64 system was able to run. Gave strong advice on N64 controllers and the modified versions to better my gaming experience. Will definitely be coming back to buy more classics from them!

Had my PlayStation 3 checked in for a disc drive repair. Not only was my console repaired same day but the technician went out of his way to replace the cracked front part of my console free of charge! Definitely the place to go if you have any consoles that need repairs.

The stores offer a good selection but do not sell to them if you have old games. So I went in to the store to sell old games and a Xbox 360 and was offered 40 dollars for everything. I had about 20 original Xbox games and 20 360 games. The 360 they offered 5 DOLLARS!!!! The most they offered for an Xbox game was .60 cents. One of these games I sold was Gauntlet dark legacy which they bought for .25 cents which they're selling for 37.99 that's over a 15000% profit percentage even gamestop offers better value

Place is a scam, do not support them at all. If you're looking for a great game store, Fallout Games is so much better. Even if the drive would be further, take the drive.

Awesome place! Loved seeing retro games. Originally came in to trade in my Nintendo Switch for a Nintendo Wii but they had sold out of the games I wanted to play for em ?? (Michael Jackson Experience,Guitar hero, Sports Resorts). So I thought why not play my good ol PS One games and the clerk suggested a PS3 backwards compatible system. After going back and forth I decided to close the deal and traded in. So happy I did! I got to play RE 2 OG, and Rugrats Search for Raptor. Going back for other classics I l

I went to Game Smash and they are some very generous and polite people in that store. I will definitely tell anyone to take their defective gaming systems to their business because they give you great service and focus on the customer needs, A+++ to Game Smash @FunkythangzProd

I had my girlfriends Playstation 5 repaired here. They took care of us fast and cheaper than anyone else. They even explained how to set up my ps5 to keep it running cooler and lasting longer. High five to the guy who repaired it for us, you saved our weekend !

They are cool but dont bother getting a quote on anything. They may suddenly change their mind. I like people to level with me and this just wasnt it. I shop here a lot to support small business but ill be going to Zia Records instead. They gave me a quote too and were real chill about the discussed price.

This gaming store is really awesome! My son brought in my 7 yr old grandson's Supernintendo video game, Mario Kart, to see why it wasn't working properly. In a matter of a few minutes, their technician totally knew what was wrong and fixed it. Their techmician soldered a chip on the motherboard and "Wallah!", fixed and ready for play! The staff there is super friendly and helpful. So many items to choose from. Although I'm not a gamer myself, this store would be a gamers heaven with all that is offered her

Took my PS5 into game smash and was provided excellent customer service. The store has a lot of different items and a variety of games and consoles to choose from. Great prices. I highly recommend this place for all your gaming needs.

Customer service is trash. 2nd time visiting, employees are super uninviting, young guy working there with glasses is a mute when you try and engage with him. Asked about a ds repair kindly and the old man with the beard didn't even look me in the eyes or respond to my thanks. Trash customer service. Take your business somewhere else.

Bought a Game boy sp 101 model and had to go back three different times because they sold a faulty gameboy! They blamed it on my charger I got from them, they gave me a new charger, then it was still having problems. So I went in for an exchange and the ?new? one was worse than the one I had to exchange! Went back again and they ?fixed? it by changing the battery but still having problems. The new one turns off while playing with new battery fully charged same as the first one did.

Very welcoming with fair prices. Great experience.

Staff was very friendly, some game prices were pretty pricey but they have a very big selection in games and you can still find reasonable prices. Overall a good place to shop for games. Will definitely come back again.

I had an issue with my Gameboy Color not turning on. They told me to bring it in for them to take a look at it. Walked in, they did some cleaning and it worked! They also didn't charge me a dime for it! Quick, easy & great service. I had to buy a game from them for how great the experience was.

Super friendly staff. Great variety of games bloth new and old. Great prices and great yearly membership deals for just $10.00!!!!!! Will be back to find those hard to find games!!!! Also anyone how needs there system cleaned or repaired they have great deals for that as well. Come check them out or give them a call!!!!

Great local shop with a lot of variety in consoles and games. Prices are fair on most items, around market value on others. They also offer a membership which is great for returning customers. Definitely a place to check out for collectors and gamers of newer and retro stuff.

I've been a customer since the fix & play days. Truly appreciative that they are still open and thriving. I stop in at least once a week to add to my collection and check for new arrivals. The selection is incredible. They have a lot of vintage and rare collectibles. I enjoy just browsing and soaking in the nostalgia. The prices are consistent with market. The staff are always welcoming and are happy to answer all the questions I ask. I haven't needed a repair since the 360 red ring of death days, but they

They were able to give new life to my console for a good price. The staff was easy to work with and all in all, they did a great job. My device has not had any issues well over two weeks later. Definitely coming back if I need any other repairs.

Updated review* Great store, and friendly staff. However, they have it very crammed with arcades games I'm assuming they are trying to sell? Makes it very difficult to browse as the store cannot accommodate more than 10 people with the machines in there. Lots of great stuff and finally checked a few games off my list. However, they tend to over price some games. I understand they need to make a profit. However, the logic on how the representative of the store explained the pricing of the products did not ma

Daniel and the staff we're great and fun to deal with. They have just about anything a gamer wants and I was very surprised by all the old school games and systems they have! They even have arcade game units,in fact we went to just look and they made us an offer for two arcade games we could not refuse. Within an hour they were bringing in our new game room additions. All I can say is if you are into gaming and old school games like Atari and NES, this is place to be. The staff was very helpful and gave gr

I am extremely disappointed at not only the customer service but also the retro games that I purchased. Let me explain on why I am disappointed. My wife and I wanted to surprise our 4 year old with some classic Mario games for the N64. We called around different places and we fount Game Smash, we noticed it was going to be a hour drive one way so we decided to call before we made that long drive. The gentleman at Game Smash said they had a good selection of Mario games for the N64. Before we made the purch

I went to GameSmash on the Sunday before Christmas. The store was neat, clean and very orderly. It has both new and used items. I was looking for games that were more than 15 years old. They had a nice selection and prices were very reasonable. Actually less than what I could find on offerup! The staff was very helpful. I'll be going back here next time I'm searching for odd gaming items! Thank you Game Smash helpers!

Great fast service a huge selection of retro games I will definitely be back to pick up some more stuff and trade in some stuff to.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are retro games in arcades still good in this modern age?
