This place is a shell of what it may remember it being. I would say around 38% of the games are out of order, which is sad, as many of these games should be preserved with care. Instead, they are shoved into corners and left to decay with the salty air. Many of the games that were ?working? had mechanical issues, most to the point of inoperability. There is still a lot going on, and much fun to be had, but I would meter your expectations as best as possible. Also, the staff all seem depressed. It doesn't h
Fun-O-Rama in York is a true gem! It's a vibrant arcade, bursting with a wide array of games catering to all age groups. The lively atmosphere coupled with the friendly staff makes your visit even more enjoyable. Whether you're a fan of classic or modern games, there's something for everyone. Don't miss out on the chance to win some cool prizes. A must-visit spot for family fun or a nostalgic trip down memory lane! Sorry I didn't get a whole lot of pics!
This is a large arcade by the beach, so it's fun to come down and play some arcade games. As other reviews have stated, there are a few games aren't working, and it's obvious because they're not on, so you don't try to play them. The problem is when the game is on but doesn't work or give out tickets, and you've wasted your money on it. That just shows its a poorly run arcade. Overall it's fun. There are some brand new arcade games mixed in with all the other ones.
Great time for all ages at Fun O Rama! My grandchildren loved the prizes! Skeeball and all the ?old school? games! Highly recommend for a rainy afternoon on the beautiful coast of Maine!
Very fun old candle pin bowling, putt putt, and arcade. If you come in with the expectation of it's old and nostalgic it's an absolute blast!
Genuine throwback arcade steps off the beach. Wide assortment of vintage (Galaga, Asteroids! DigDug) and newer video games. Nice 10 machine pinball area was widest selection I've seen in some time; unfortunately, these games were not well maintained. One South Park game had active flippers and lively ball movement, but others had weak flippers, or dead bumpers. Addams Family game was out of commission. Couple of Air hockey tables and a bank of quarter a game skee ball were good draws. Fun-o-rama delivered j
50% chance the machine is broken or it takes your money. So sad. Do better.
Just got turned around at the door on a Saturday night, 6/14. Google says open until 10, they say closed at 8. Bad service
Really fun atmosphere, I've been coming here for most of my life and always enjoy it. This time around, there were a lot of broken machines, and everything was a bit expensive (roughly $0.75-$2.00 for a single play). You also need a LOT of tickets for anything good at the prize counter/wall, so my siblings and I usually just pool and settle for the little stuff. Still, it's a great place to visit, and it's definitely a must-go every time my family and I are in York.
This is not an arcade and the owner should be in jail from robbing people from a good time and their money. Half of the games are out of order. The ones that do work are rigged. The skee Ball machines did not register points correctly. Every single pinball machine we tried was rigged and had it set so that the ball is shot straight up and falls directly between the flippers or the flippers become immobile on the last ball. Every game we played said we needed 2 coins, to then ask us for a 3rd coin after inse
I come to York Beach every summer and we always stop in at Fun-O-Rama to play and every time we come there are more and more machines out of order than the last visit. When we visited this summer it seemed like 1/3 of the entire arcade was out of order. Fun-O-Rama has slowly deteriorated over the years into one of the most poorly maintained arcades I have ever seen. Really disappointing.
Fun but half of their machines are broken. I really wish they would invest some money in this place.
Our favorite summer spot! Perfect for the kids and right near the beach and shops!
A classic arcade by the beach! And hey look I won something from the claw machine. This has been a staple of short sands for my entire life, and now I get to bring my daughter. Always a fun time playing some classic arcade games and ski ball.
The pics make it look a bit sus, but it is amazing! No game cards or tokens even, just change machines for quarters. And the prices on the machines reflect original prices! Arcade classics for a quarter, pinball for 50 cents! I put 10 bucks in the change machine and felt like a king! As a family we made 30 bucks last over an hour (even on quarter eating ticket games) and we still walked away with some change in our pockets, instead of useless tokens or a card with a miniscule balance! Best night out yet!
Fun for the fam! One issue is that even though there are new games, many of the old games are desperate for repair. They have an employee on hand whose sole job is just to operate the skee ball and manage the constant malfunctions on these machines.
Reignite the kid in you. Teach your child how to play pinball. Let them "make some noise"!
At first glance I thought ?this place could use an update and renovations?, however after being there a little white I began to enjoy the ?old school?, nostalgic feeling. They have a good assortment of games for all ages. And it's a definite hit with the young people. Still, a little paint job here and there wouldn't hurt.
Many many games are out of order and broken. But overall nice place. I like how it's on the beach and has many classic arcade or ticket games from my childhood. It has pinball as well
What a treasure. Fun o Rama is a trip back in time to the 80s and 90s. How many beachside arcades are left in the world? Thank you for preserving this experience!
I'd give it one star, but opted for 2 since the curiosity of what this place is washing money for earns another star. 25% of games are functional. Of those, they are typically a buck a go, usually more as for every 4 quarters you put in you only get credit for 2-3 of them.
1 star because my friend and I were watching my other friends play, she won the jackpot twice but the machine said ?error?. The people who work here came over to help but didn't believe her when she said she won 248 tickets. They wrote her a card for 39 tickets and walked away. They then found us later and told me they had my tickets but lost them. My friends never wants to come back.
I came here specifically to enjoy one of my favorite past times, a beautiful Dance Dance Revolution machine still in perfect working order ?? there aren't many left and I'm happy to visit this arcade JUST for this reason. I didn't check out the rest of the arcade much but it certainly has changed a lot from the arcade I knew as a kid, lots of flashy, high tech machines out front with a number of old school cabinets towards the back. The place was busy and everyone seemed happy from what I could tell. No bat
Great Arcades! Reasonably priced. Fun place to kill a couple of hours. Pinball, skeet, etc
It's always fun to go to the arcade. This is on the beach, so it's nice if you want a break from the heat or rain, lol. There are no washrooms on the premises, BUT the public beach washrooms are right next to it. There's also an ice cream shop next door they have puzza and other stuff. It's old but still fun for all ages.
This place is a York Beach institution, and it's so sad to see it so run down. Almost every other machine was broken or out of tickets, and everything was dirty and sticky. I love arcades, and since COVID I've been to many that have staff diligently cleaning and disinfecting everything while people are playing, but no such luck here. I won about 250 tickets, but when I put them in their ticket counter machine it only counted 134! In the grand scheme of things, not a huge deal, but it's dishonest and disappo
Love the variety of games they have from old school pin ball and spider stomp to new age tickle monster on a touch screen. Games are played with quarters making it much more convenient. Downside is they don't give many tickets out at games other than the "ticket winners" (such as ski slope, ball drop, rope cutter). Will visit again mainly for the nostalgia!
I used to love this place as a kid but they ha e really let it go over the years. A ton of thr games don't even work. We went there for the arcade and left to walk the beach and store around the area. I'd say 3 stars for the area but the arcade itself is downhill. Just go to old orchard Beach if you want a dope arcade IMO
Like this place normally, giving it a two-star. Found Fun-Rama closed after we arrived and paid for parking. Website, Facebook, and Google all indicate that it is open. Asked friendly Bowling owner next door about Fun-O-Rama. Said it opened at 5 p.m. the day prior - with no notice. Please don't plan a trip here with kids anticipating arcade fun. There are plenty of other things to do here though.
Fun place but cannot be counted to be open when it's slated to be. I messaged them on a Sunday asking their hours, received a prompt message back that they were open all week & when I went a few days later Wednesday, they were closed. No Facebook post letting anyone know. I can appreciate staffing woes but maybe closing a few days a week would be better than spontaneously deciding each day whether to open or not. A lot of disappointed kids.
My family loves going here during our annual vacation at York Beach. I love the old time feel of the place and the classic arcade games they have. Unfortunately, a lot of the games are showing their age. The skee ball is fun to play, but often has issues with the number of balls or other small annoying things.
This place is so fun! It live up to the name definitely. I can't imagine a better beachside. Drop your kids off and have fun on the beach. It is very clean and workers are super nice. I would recommend!
This place was SO hyped up on Tiktok and wow what a dump. Too crowded, many broken machines, and very loud, but I'm sure the kids love it!
Great arcade in York. Close to the beach and the bowling alley. It can be packed in a rainy day. Adds a bit of ?honky tonk? to the town. A fun bit of nostalgia. Too bad some of the vintage games are now broken?
Takes long to get good prizes and some arcade games were out of commission. Otherwise, good arcade where the games were working. EDIT: Knocking a star off as of August 2, 2024 because of inaccurate hours and closing without prior notice.
Unfortunately majority of the machines not working , others jammed ,ticket machine miscounted or didn't work. Forget the claw machines. While our kiddos did gave luck at two (won tickets) the others we played claws didn't even work. Never opened or never closed. With a little maintaince and some tlc this could be a 5 star review. Never like leaving anything negative, but in thus case it was earned. Frustrated kiddos never good, and frustrated adults even worse. It should be a place for fun.
So much fun! I love that they have some old school games and so many pinball machines!
Good selection of some classic games, along with many pinball machines, skee ball, and some more "modern" games too. (Dodge those "modern" ticket reward games and head for the classics though). Tends to be busy, but never so crowded that you have to wait to play anything. Never had a bad experience here, aside from a game or two being out of commission for repairs - but with the large selection to choose from it wasn't the end of the world.
This place is... okay. I mean, it was definitely a lot of fun playing all the different old-timey games, but as old things go, a lot of them were broken and taped off. I wanted to use some of the broken ones, but there's nothing I can do about that. It's also worth mentioning that one of the skee-ball machines was missing a ball, and you can't collect your tickets without throwing another all of your balls. Overall, this place is fun, but your fun could be stopped by games you can't play, or games that just
A really nice traditional style arcade with a good mix of older and newer games. They also have some great classic pinball tables which are becoming rarer lately. One star docked because a handful of machines are out of order when I visit but they do repair them so they clearly care about their games.
I'm probably biased, because this place is pure-childhood nostalgia for me. I've been coming here practically every summer since I was a kid, and it's still fun to go to. There are definitely some money-trap games (like those 'quick stop skill' games, where you push a button and hope you stopped the arm in the right place to win a prize), but most are old fashioned arcade games - pinball, skee ball, air hockey, shoot 'em up, etc. It's a nice place to escape the heat and sun while on the beach.
I have been coming here for years! While some of the classic games show how well loved they are it is still a great time. It is still as fun as it was when I was a kid
It's a pretty grim experience. The arcades are decades old and no upkeep means many are out of action. The only bonus was the many hand sanitising stations, which were very much needed. Take a shower after going!
50 percent of games had tape over the slots. And a couple that didnt have tape ove the coin slots didn't work. Hmmm, fixing them might be a good idea. And the place is Filthy. Will NEVER return..
Came out to York for the weekend for my wife's birthday. Its Saturday night and Google states that the arcade is open until 11, when we called to check they said they were open until 10. Now it's 8pm and they are closing the doors. We have a party of 10 people trying to enjoy the games but the owner or manager going home seems to take priority over customer service. Update to my last review: They just turned down another party of eight people.
Compared to last year, this place has gone down hill. I came with my boyfriend and half of the machines didn't work, just ate the quarters we put in. Other machines got stuck and staff were always occupied or just running around doing whatever. I told someone that we had gotten the jackpot on a game after waiting ten minutes for help, and by the time we got back to the machine some kid had gotten the jackpot without even playing! The employee just shrugged it off. What a rip off, definitely not coming back
Place should update website to make it a little more predictable when it will be open. They open and close whenever they want. Not fun when you make plans with your 4 year old to go on a Sunday and then they never open because of the rain. We were staying nearby and I figured the arcade would be a perfect rainy day activity.
Says open on internet but once you get there everything is closed off and looks closed for the rest of the year. Very sad, the family were happy to go on this rainy day
Feels like an old school arcade, almost giving off a 80s vibe. The chance games are very rigged, possibly allowing maybe 1/1000 to actually get a CHANCE to win. I had played the barber cut game, landed the "scissors" perfectly on the string, it didn't cut.
What an absolute dump of a beachside arcade. Without exaggerating, roughly half of the games my kids played did not work. They took our quarters, though. I'm sure it was awesome at one time, but not any more.
Most of the games were in the grave yard out back... Not so bad pinballs, but they need some work.
Pretty packed arcade, fun for all ages. Good selection of games, however about 15% of the machines are out of order. Of course arcade prizes aren't worth the $$$ you spent on games, but that's every arcade. ATM located on site.
I Spent hundreds of dollars over the course of my family vacay with friends of ours who happen to own property up here and when my friends son lost his receipt with 2200 tickets on it she went to the extremely rude and unprofessional woman running the counter to notify her in case some kind person turned it in and when she walked away this woman went on for five minutes berating my friend. She did not know I was with her so when my friend returned having found the ticket I asked for a manager. The manager w
Looks the same as it did 30 years ago. Games and all... ok there may be like 7 new machines since then but it's still a fun place for the kids. Mostly ticket machines so they can 'win' a few pieces of candy.
STILL SO FUN, BUT NOW SUPER CLEAN TOO!! They provide hand sanitizer and they placed arrows to help control the flow of kids. When we went the beach was full, but Fun O wasn't that full. They were doing a GREAT JOB keeping us safe! THANKS FOR A GREAT EXPERIENCE FUN O RAMA!!!!!
Sadly there aren't a lot of arcades around anymore and while it's great that there are places like Dave and Buster's, Fun-O-Rama in York truly is a treasure. While places like Dave and Buster's tend to have mainly newer arcade games, the great thing about 'Fun o Rama' is that it has both. It has its fair share of 'newer' arcade games but it also has a great library of classic games as well, from classic shoot-em-up games like 'Terminator 2' to classic racing games like the 'Cruisin' series and the 'Arctic'
Very hot and stuffy inside. Many games don't work. It gets very crowded at night. If you can visit during the day as it will be less crowded and cooler. If you need help with a game the staff will come and help you immediately and will either fix the game or reimburse you. I'd give them 3.5 stars if I could. 4 if more machines were working.
I always have a great deal of fun here when I visit York. Never ceases to amaze me what machines are still around after all of these years. I love the memories I make with my family here as well as all over this great little town.
Only getting three stars because of nostalgia and aesthetic. I've been vacationing in Maine for as long as I can remember and then some. Got my husband to fall in love with the area as well. This arcade tho, really just go to the boardwalk arcade in Wells instead. The games here aren't maintained. Just went an hour ago and 3 of the games we played weren't working. The staff guy was very nice and came over and opened them up to make them spit out the tickets but it was really just depressing how often I had
I've been going here since I was a kid. Can't ask for much more for a boardwalk arcade. Always a good time, and best of all you don't need to change your money into tokens, so bring all of those quarters from home!
I've been coming to fun o Rama for as long as I can remember. They have a game for everyone. From pinball machines to skee-ball and air hockey. And lots of games that the little kids will enjoy playing.my favorite is the old school gypsy fortune teller. You put your quarter in she comes to life talks for a min then your fortune comes out on a card. It's always been my favorite. Cute prizes from tickets earned. My kids and I almost always win a lot of tickets and find little kids to give them to. One of my f
Love a good beach arcade, took off one star because I had too many machines eat quarters and not give tickets when they were supposed to, it was a little frustrating to waste the money. However, many of the games were only 25 cents so that helped make up for it!
Fun visit to the past but maintenance of the games could be better, there were a lot of games out of order. Most, if not all, of the tube screens have issues which made them barely playable of you squint.
Very disappointed, my family has been visiting this place for many years. So many machines broken, not 1 my 3yr old niece could ride on was working. Gave 3 stars out of nostalgia
Would not be a trip to York if you don't stop by the Arcade with the kids. Something about coming here makes me feel like a kid again. It is your standard arcade, crowded, hot, loud but never disappoints. After all you go there for the games and they have plenty of them.
The Arcade is great, but the operating hours listed are NOT CORRECT !! Came by 5 times when they are supposed to be open, but they were closed. We called and got a voicemail that requested to leave a message and that remains full... Very disappointed....
I was sooo bummed out when I started looking around and tried to play some of the games in this arcade. Half of the games didnt work, and the ones that were actually on the joysticks or button didnt work. What a waste of precious space right on the beach. This place needs renovation ASAP!!!
I love it because it hasn't changed in three decades and I remember playing the same machines when I was a child, but it would be nice to upgrade it a bit. I hope it never gets bought out and turned into condos or something. Still, five stars for nostalgia.
About 1/2 the games are broken and the ones that aren't will steal your money about 1/3rd of the time. Very frustrating losing $6 or $7 out of a $20 bill. Most games have not changed in 30+ years, literally! I've been going to this arcade my whole life and these games haven't been replaced or even moved. Granted most of these relics are the broken ones I mentioned.
Everything you expect from an arcade at the beach: lots of 80s video games and pinball machines along with many games that award tickets to buy cheap prizes. Everything takes quarters so there are no tokens. I was disappointed with the number of games that were broken and many older games had the sound off.
It's seen better days, buy I'm glad it's still open. Been coming here for my whole life 30+ years. It's cool to see some of the games still working.
Been coming here since I was a kid and it hasn't changed a bit! Great older arcade atmosphere and a lot of games you'll find nowhere else!!! Love it
Old school beach front arcade. Skee ball is still only $0.25 plus they have a nice mix of newer games. Great rainy day stop.
This is a time capsule. We love it. Our young kids love it. Right on the beach.
Great place to bring the kids! beach right outside and there's a restaurant right next door. Really fun arcade with some really nice retro video games like Mrs. PAC man and DK. I go there every time I'm in the area.
It was fun to play old games but a lot of the games are broken and ate our coins. Easily $2-3 gone just trying to play. Probably won't be back because of it
Fun-o-Rama is great for nostalgia and cool old games, but a lot of their machines are broken so I'd recommend going with someone who doesn't mind talking to staff unless you want to lose all your quarters.
This place has been here literally forever! A really cool place to visit if you happen to be on the beach or just visiting the area. It does look a little rundown at first, but I think that's because the building is old. Really neat place!
Most games don't work and the ones that do barely hand out any tickets. It's not a great investment considering the prizes are extremely over priced. Hard pass.
Very disappointed. We went 4 days ago and half the machines were broken, claw machines were lacking prizes and the place was pretty dirty . Won't ever go back.
Out of all the arcades I have been to, this is by far my favorite. They have commidated us when the machine ate our quarter! Cheapest place i have been to to play skee-ball. 25 cents. Cant beat that.
This is the best place ever! The family is awesome and are always generous. The games are classics that everyone enjoys. Also some great prizes and even a ticket claw machine!
I love how they have both the newer type of arcade game and a few from the 80s, it's a fun place to go after a day on the beach. Highly recommend.
Several machines can eat your quarters and some classics are not working. Great selection of classic games however, and well worth poking into to find your favorites.
Love this arcade! So big and open. Super fun. They have great prizes too! Love walking out of there right on to the beach!
I really enjoy having the choice to stop in this nostalgic arcade and glad to see they had hand sanitizer stations inside but honestly the place needs a lot of cleaning, those fans are disgusting and time to do a little maintenance on your dying machines!
Hot as Hades in this place. The games are all old and worn. Needs a serious remodel , some new games. And for the love of God some fans or air conditioning!!!!
I want to like this place so much but it needs improvement. Many games not functional, place is getting to be really run down unfortunately. Ticket counter miscounted our tickets significantly. Sadly a bit of a let down.
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
