5 Stars ? An Absolute Blast! Free Play Arcade is hands down one of the best spots for nostalgic fun and good vibes. From classic arcade games and pinball machines to old-school consoles, it's like stepping into a time machine?with unlimited plays! The atmosphere is energetic, the staff is super friendly, and the music gives it that perfect retro feel. Whether you're a serious gamer or just looking for a fun night out with friends or family, Free Play delivers. Drinks are reasonably priced, and the space is
Ms. PacMan, Dance Dance Revolution, Pinball, and more to enjoy at the Free Play Bar Arcade. 21+ and a great value of $8 on a Friday at 6:30pm to play to our hearts content. Adult beverages and some games make for a great date night or group outing. We played for a couple hours before heading out to another location. Anyone who has grown up playing these games or wants to try them out should hit up Free Play Bar Arcade in Providence!
They have O.N.G.E.K.I ! -- that's what I am here for. It's the ongeki Bright Memory version. All free play after paying the $12 entrance. They have 4 Chunithm, 2 SDVX and other cabinets. p.s. Large bags are not allowed in the area. I would recommend leaving it in your vehicle, or come here without bags.
Great place for a night of fun. The Dance Dance Revolution machine was a bit too loud though. Cocktails were excellent.
Great place to grab a smooth drink and play with your pals and have 9$ pizza ??, great spot to hang out all day for the price of 12$ 7$ on weekends, terrible music tho, 80,s but is a great place to get lost and play back into the future
10$ for unlimited games on a Saturday night is pretty cool! There's pinball, skeeball, racing, shooting, air hockey! Old and new games! And a bar. February 2025 update : 12$ now on weekends, 7$ otherwise. Definitely worth the price for all the games!
Fun spot for a date! Arcade cabinets are worn out in some cases but others are in great condition! Bar is moderately priced, and the vibes are good.
Absolutely wonderful selection of games and good drinks. However the music is played at club volumes which makes talk difficult, and there's not really anywhere good to sit for a moment if for some reason you do order the pizza on offer or just need to recuperate between rounds of Skeeball and Time Crisis 4.
The entry fee is worth the unlimited play! Lots of nostalgic games and new ones I hadn't played before. My husband and I were like kids and time flew by. Good beer selection and reasonable prices. It could use a bit of cleaning and TLC.
Oh i loved this place, it was so fun. Got there around 7, a few groups of people hanging out, nothing crazy. Got drinks from really friendly bartenders. Played some fun games, listen to some karaoke upstairs. I cant wait to go back. 12 bucks to get it, but they take card. The later it gets the busier it gets, but so, so much fun.
If you haven't been here yet, you really need to come on through! The entry fee is plenty worth it even if you don't drink, as there's a dancing floor upstairs, places to hang out and talk outside, and plenty of arcade style video games and games like skeeball on the first floor. The drinks are reasonably priced, and you can even get pizza here! The pizza is reasonably priced and pretty decent, too. As a side note, if you have sensory issues you may want to wear acoustic earplugs. It gets pretty loud on t
Overwhelming, but in a good way. The bar helps. Patrons are a mixed demographic, mostly college age. Tons of games. Great pinball, classic arcade, and shooting games. You will be searched at the door and jackets/bags must be put in coat check. $12 to enter, $2 per checked item.
A lot of fun. A quick overview: Tons of pinball machines, tons of retro arcade games, Nintendo, Atari, Sega, and more, a full bar, upper and lower floors, several different kinds of pizza made, but that's it for food, air hockey machines, retro dance floor on upper level, Saturdays only, along with live music, Fridays, on outdoor, ground level patio. Staff are very nice, mostly college aged patrons, and try to get there early because their lot fills up fast, starting around 8PM or so.
My wife and I were in Providence for the weekend and Free Play was on our itinerary. After stuffing our faces with some tasty pretzels from The Malted Barley, we decided to walk a few blocks over to the barcade. I'm an 80s baby and previously visited a barcade in Salem MA. I had a good time there and was hoping to do the same at Free Play and share in the experience with my wife. We walked in thru the front door and had to pause a moment as I stood there in wide-eyed wonder looking around the place. Arcad
One of the best places I've been to in quite some time. Twelve bucks is a steal for how many games they have here. There is a good mix of older games and new ones. They have a nice selection of pinball machines. And even if it's busy you'll find plenty of games open to play. I can't wait to go back. It's hard to leave
This place was SO FUN!!! I was surprised that it cost $7 to enter but was incredibly pleased to learn that all the games are included with the cost of entry. The name may have given it away but I didn't realize. There were so many options and so many games to play. The machines were all really well maintained. It was really cool to try games I wouldn't normally want to pay to play. I wish there was a NYC location, I'd go there in a heartbeat.
The "pizza" I ordered was literally some stale pita bread with a tiny bit of cheese sprinkled on it... More games than Worcester but avoid the pizza. $12 down the drain. Edit: I was given a refund. Aside from the pizza, the place is awesome. The drinks are great, and the people are very friendly.
This place was cool! Dance club upstairs, games on main floor! So many classics! It was really alot of fun. Staff was great. And bartenders were pretty amazing! Will definitely be back!
Really enjoyed these old school games from Atari and pinball. Enjoyable environment and friendly staff. The bar serves a great selection of ales and hard seltzer. One price for entry. Would have gave 5 stars but a few games needed some minor repairs. Overall great night out for some fun!
What a great time! $7 to get in. I've been to plenty of places like this and usually it's every 3rd game is out of order and it's gross. This was clean, and all games worked well! The beer selection is good and the cocktails are quite creative. For those that are interested there are a bunch of rhythm games, including modern stuff I've never seen. Overall a really great experience.
The MOST fun bararcade ever! Admission is super affordable , there are a ton of games. Dance games, pinball games, retro games, new games!! I couldn't resist hanging with my favorite Doctor while I was there. Also check out family nights , where you can bring the kids! Again- this would be a very affordable night out! Perfect for a date too!
Great time. Not too expensive. Your cover change covers all the arcade games. Good selection of games
Really great arcade! Variety of games all for a good price. But it's so very very loud. Can't hear their wide variety of rhythm game machines over the loud noise. It has been a couple hours since I was there and my ears are still ringing. Bring earphones/ear plugs, too loud.
We had a great time at Free Play! Lots of great retro games and even some newer ones. Bring ear plugs if you're sensitive to loud music. The karaoke bar upstairs was amazing!
First visit to Freeplay. It was overcrowded for my liking. The stairs to the upper level seemed bouncy and made me nervous. We were there for karaoke and the dance floor was super sticky prior to DJ time of the night. Pizza was ok. I personally was not a fan of this location, hoping the one they are opening in my neck of the woods will be better.
What a gem! For only $7 per person you get to play all these awesome old time favorites fo as long as you want. Great date night. Fair warning the drinks are a bit pricy and their pizza was terrible. It was partially burnt, we were only able to eat the very middle circle because a thick part of the crust was just too hard so would not eat there again but would definitely go back. Friendly staff. Clean place. Highly recommend it, just eat before or after.
Great selection of games. We went on a week night and it wasn't overly crowded. Good beer selection and great lineup of pins.
fun place, and cheap if you pregame beforehand. only issue that i have is with the floor. that thing needs to be vacuumed, steamed, mopped, baptized, excorcised, and whatever else might get it back to some level of clean. i understand that might not be an easy thing for them to actually accomplish, but on the drive back from here i realized there was a chunk of the floor stuck to my shoe. love this place, but ngl i don't want that to happen again.
If you're coming here, you already know what you're in for. Can't beat the price for a free play arcade. There are a wide variety of well kept arcade machines. 20ish pinball machines with Stern?s Connected Play leaderboards on the wall.
It's a ton of fun. Pay a cover charge to get in, and that gives you unlimited access to all the arcade games, as well as the live music bar upstairs. The games are mostly from the 80s and 90s, but they've brought in some games from more recent times, including some Japanese tactile games. All the custom cocktails at the bar are fairly sweet, but you can get standard drinks as well. I've been there a few times, and will definitely be coming back at some point.
Free Play is Super Chill and fun atmosphere for 21+ retro gaming! It's also only a 7$ cover charge. I didn't drink anything so I'm not sure how reasonable the alcohol is or not unfortunately. There are also some real relics in here so make sure to take the time to walk around a few times and make sure you catch everything.
Arcade section was so fun! Club music upstairs wasn't the vibe though
A VERY cool arcade. All in working order, fast bar service, and SO many games to choose from! Plus a dance club upstairs!
Always a great time at FreePlay. The cover charge is a fraction of what you'd put through machines in quarters at any other arcade. Very fun! New tables and chair area make it easy to also sit and enjoy the ambiance. Highly recommend
This is a great place to have fun with friends for an affordable price. There's all types of exciting games & a dance floor upstairs. It's definitely a place where you can lose track of time having so much fun!
I love that the entry fee of $10ish covers all of the games! They have both older and newer games, so there's plenty of options for multiple age groups. It's mostly a college / young adult scene, though. There's a bar upstairs & a smoking area outside. If you wanna get a taste of each game or play something specific, probably best not to come on a Friday or Sat night as it's VERY crowded. The music is deafeningly loud at times. The women?s bathroom was relatively clean, just with very small stalls. Street p
This place brought me back to my teen years, hanging out at the mall arcade. Except now you can do it with a great bar. We will definitely be going back!
Free Play is awesome!! So many great games, arcade, pinball, shooting games, a couple dancing games like DDR... The bar is pretty good, can't beat drinking and playing Mario Cart! My favorite part is the dance club upstairs, come on and dance!
One of the greatest places ever. $10 cover charge for all the old school games you could ask for - set on free play!! Played so much skeeball too - only game we had a hard time getting on was air hockey but hardly a bummer. Wow, if Boston had something even close to this.. ugh what an amazing place.
Watch out for hidden fees. Bought a beer that was $4. Gave my card and was charged $5.70. (before tip) I asked what the deal was , bartender shrugged and said "it's because of tax".( last I checked RI tax is 7%,... Not 40%) I asked if there was a CC min or something, and they couldn't tell me. If there was, they had zero signage saying so.
What a fun time this place is! We really enjoyed being able to play skee ball, air hockey, pac man, racing games, etc. it was such a blast and it is pretty cheap as all you have to pay is $10 per person on the weekend. The drinks were also fairly priced. Overall, this place is a nice experience!
Fun wish the place wish it had a better laid out good place to go for a day out lots of kids though... going to try going at night when it's adult only.
Great place. Would recommend earplugs if you're sensitive to noise and that you be prepared for a crowd, but it's worth it for all the fun
Great games, drinks, uncomplicated. Couldn't ask for anything more. 10/10
Went here for a pal's birthday recently and it was awesome! I especially loved the huge amount of rhythm games and the fact they had a designated smoke area that was sheltered from the weather. Only visited the restroom once but it was very clean!
FreePlay is the place to go! Lots of of fun arcade games, dance floor, smoking area, the best air hockey community and they have the BEST customer service. The bartenders always serve with a smile, and one specifically, Daren, saw that I got injured off the air hockey table and went out of his way to find the best medical supplies around and doctored me up. 11/10 place, you have to go!
Best adult arcade you can ask for! It has all the classics and drinks that are reasonably priced. Will definitely be returning.
Awesome place to hang out. Service at the bar was fast and friendly where we ordered a tasty 12" bar pizza that was enough for two. Gameplay was pay once for unlimited access to every game (except for photo booth: (protip- great lighting for selfies)) The plethora of games to choose from allow for a high re-visit value as trying to play every game might not be possible in a single visit. Classics such as air hockey ( 1v1 and 4-way), skee ball, Dance Dance Revolution, and pinball offer great value as you ca
Very cool club/bar/arcade, with so many different games to play.
Oh hey, this is DGAF... Or at least it used to be. I'm wicked happy with what they've done to the place, it used to be a club but not it's a spacious barcade. In true fashion to this location I started the night off with a drink and dancing, just this time it was DDR and not a live DJ... With the same music ??. Great place though totally beats all the barcades I've been to in the Boston area, by the shear amount of space this place has you don't need to constantly worry about bumping into people.
We had a BLAST!! Brought back so many memories, it was like being back in DG's arcade!! You pay a $7 cover (mon-thurs) and play till you drop! If you're gonna drink, bring your big boy wallet because this is how they make their money!
Such a fun place, especially for us 80s babies millenials. So nostalgic! Great music, good drinks - just always a really fun time.
I went for Gayme night on Monday. Go a bit early to play the games but the drag show is a must see! I've never been so welcomed, great vibes! There were plenty of games to choose from. Can't complain for $4.00 cover. I'd like to see them repair some of the games but I don't know anything about arcade maintenance. The drinks were tasty as well.
Really interesting spot in downtown Providence. There are plenty of areas to park around the area. Parking ranges in price but there are quite a few different lots. The arcade has a fee at the door, but it is well worth it. Once you go inside, it feels like you are in the past with modern features. They have a bar area on one side of the establishment. They have a wide variety of food and drinks offered. All around the establishment are retro and more modern games. There is a great mix of old school games
This place is freaking awesome. So many fun games to play even rare Japanese ones. All for 8 bucks during the week!!
Very cool place. Atari games brought me back to a simpler time?.pre MOOGs. Ms Pac-Man and pinball. Good beer selection?. Entry cost well worth it.
Super chill atmosphere with all the games in free play after paying the cover charge ($5 on Mondays). Bar had a good selection of drinks and lots of games to choose from. A hidden gem in downtown Providence!
Awesome place, great idea! Honestly...cover charge and all the awesome games from my childhood free!? Yes please! Drinks were good..a little pricey, but the games were free so oh well. Great time!
I recognized almost every arcade game! I had such a blast, and so did my wife and co-workers!
My gf, her friend, and I went here just last night and had a great time. You pay $7 cover each, and then all the games are free, which I felt is a pretty good deal, just remembering how much in quarters I could have spent in 2 hours as a kid in the arcade. Drinks were very reasonably priced, about 5-10 for a beer, 10-15 for mixed drinks. There's an outside smoking area (420 friendly) and a great selection of games ranging from old classics to newer games, and a ton of pinball options. The only drawback to t
Had a really cool experience here. Staff was pleasant, and the nostalgia was real! Can't wait to go back if I'm ever in the area!
Our last night in Rhode Island and we wanted something to do and found this place. It was 7 dollar admissions and then you can play all the games you want for free. They have all the classics from street fighter to the Simpsons to NBA jam. They also have DDR. I wish they had guitar hero, but this is definitely a fun spot to go to and they make good drinks.
Had a great time here. It is a one time entrance fee to play whatever you want. They have plenty of different arcade machines, DDR, Pinball machines, and a couple of air hockey tables. It's definitely worth the cost of entry as you can easily spend hours here.
Great place for a fun night out. I suggest getting there early because it gets very crowded later in the evening.
First time and loved it! It was like being a kid again. Had all my arcade favorites. Great way to spend a night with family, friends or your partner.
Solid experience, drag queens and arcade games is all you can ask for! As far as Providence activities, I would say that free play is among the most fun I've had in a night with relatively low hassle. We went on a Monday for a drag event and I loved it! It's a solid bar experience, with an acceptable selection of alcohol, but the main draw is clearly the events and arcade selection. Overall it's a good night out! I'd recommend stopping by for one of the special events.
This arcade bar offered free play air hockey, skee ball, pinball, and arcade games with great music on a Monday night with only $5 cover charge per person. Staff was very friendly with fast service of delicious arcade-themed drinks. The women's bathroom was extremely clean and well kept. Hand sanitizer was available for use between games. Excellent value for a fun evening out and would certainly return if ever back in Providence.
Nostalgic with extensive beer list. It is cheap to get in and get your fill of pinball, skeeball, air hockey, and classic arcade games. A few of the machines need a little maintenance and it would be nice to have 2 more skeeball machines to lessen the line.
I went here around midnight on a Saturday night and it was pretty busy but not slammed. I think the cover was $12 and they accept cash and card. The wait wasn't very long. I was most excited for DDR, which I played a lot as a teen. Lots of fun arcade games with cup holders and you can play any. The 12 dollar charge covers the games. I just had a Truly when I went so I can't really speak to how their cocktails are but those bartenders looked pretty busy.
Great place to hang out 21+ arcades takes you back to the 80's & 90's If you like to dance there's a dance floor on the 2nd floor fee is only $10 so worth it Enjoyyyyy as I did!
This place is awesome. I've been here a few times now, and will definitely be going a few more. My only complaint is that the Buffalo chicken pizza I ordered was practically flavorless. But the drinks and atmosphere was great.
I really don't review places much, and I really hate to review some place poorly. I've had a few good, fun nights at Freeplay which is why I can't in good faith rate them a 1/5 - but just today my husband and I showed up to meet our wedding photographer for 7 - she had checked in with management via email to ask if a photography session would be okay, to which they said yes. The security at the door spoke very softly and mumbled that professional photography wasn't allowed and increasingly got more annoyed
Booze and arcade games is a perfect match! First time I've been here in awhile and it is a lot better since my last time. It was hard to leave!
Went to this place a week ago, and can happily say that the games are fantastic. If you are with a group even more fun to be had. Drinks were served in a very unsanitary bar sticky surface and random tips all over. And the bartender who served me was very unprofessional, rude and intoxicated. Even demanded tips for just opening a can. If you plan to visit please save your money for better food and drinks elsewhere.
This place is amazing. Most weekdays you pay $7 to get in and $10 on the days they have the dance floor open (I think Friday?s and Saturday?s). Then inside all the games are set to Free Play hence their name. So worth it and the drinks are priced well. I've yet to have the pizza here but I've heard it's good. They also have an outdoor smoking area if you're into that. The variety in games is great and the recent additions of new games have been welcome. Totally great place for a night out with friends.
Monday nights at Freeplay have been a staple for my friends and I for a few years now. It's a safe space for LGBTQIA and they host drag shows. There's a lot of new local talent that gets to showcase there. The bartenders are friendly and efficient and Kyle always guesses my drink before I even ask. There is such a great collection of games here and it really speaks to my elder millennial nostalgia. The crowd is very mixed and changes every week. There's always hand sanitizer available.
Easily the best arcade in New England that I've ever been to. Maybe best in the country. Game selection is excellent, owner is super chill, and live events/ outdoor spaces are awesome. Only wish they were closer to Boston. Value is also excellent. You can't beat just paying a cover for unlimited play. My only complaint is that the cocktails are mostly super sugary stuff geared towards college students but if that's the target demographic so be it.
My husband picked this place to go for our weekly date night. I was hesitant to go because arcade games aren't really my thing, but I actually had a good time. The price to get in and play all you want is really reasonable. Although the only food option is thin crust pizza, it was actually decent, though a bit overpriced. There were several games that weren't working, which was a bit disappointing, but overall, it was a really fun experience.
This place is so cool! Flat rate cover charge means not worrying about tokens or quarters and the bar is fully stocked, including craft cocktails and beers. This is a date night must!
I usually have a really good time at this place and I hate to leave a rating like this, but honestly I'm extremely disappointed with my time here. I actually invited people here for my birthday, but this time the DJ was absolutely trash and rude, not a single good song to actually dance to and I was there from 9pm-2am. Claimed he didn't have Hey Mama by the Black Eyed Peas and Temperature by Sean Paul... Big red flag in my opinion since those are common 2000s songs and on genre to the venue. He proceeded to
My new favorite bar in Providence! Great beer selection and an incredible selection of classic games. They have some great pinball machines too that I haven't seen in years. It's pretty crowded in Saturday nights so if you want a more mellow experience I suggest going midweek when they open.
Wish I had this place in northern NJ. For $7 entrance fee and all you can play!!!!!!! I did not want to leave this place. Brought me back to my childhood with Time Crisis and PUMP!!
I feel good I finally got to go Fell in love with the SF Turbo arcade and some arcade games that I didn't know was arcade games Really need to take some friends it's like literally a free arcade, want to take my nieces and nephew to family night as well as retro night 5 bucks is cheap ????
Wow!! This place was amazing! So many classic games with a touch of modern games mixed in. There are games here you won't find in an ordinary arcade/bar. The staff is amazing and our group had a blast. Highly recommend this place if you are looking to have a blast from the past!
Great time. Excellent selections of games. Pay door cover, $7 on a the Sunday night then all games are unlimited play. Nice bar with a decent drink menu. Great way to get your nostalgia game on.
This place is ahhhhmazing! Celebrated my son's 21st birthday here last night with some family and friends and we had a BLAST! Best place for gamers and dancing queens and kings. The staff was also extremely friendly and helpful! What a memorable, fun night. Thank you!
If you like old fashioned arcade games, this is the place for you. They have a lot of different games from skee ball, air hockey, pac man, you name it. They also have live music upstairs in the weekends, the band we saw was extremely talented. The place sort of has a weird smell but I think it's the nature of the old equipment @amp_eats (instagram and Facebook)
Our 1st time at free play was Sunday for my son's birthday. I love that it was family free play from 11-4. A little crowded for the baby but we did just fine, security was weird bout bringing in food for an infant. But that was our only issue. The pizza was amazing
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds. Though less common than video games, pinball’s tactile charm and community vibe make it a standout arcade experience in 2025.
Absolutely, retro games in arcades remain a thrilling draw in 2025! Classics like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Street Fighter II offer simple yet addictive gameplay, blending nostalgia with timeless challenge. Modern arcade cabinets often feature crisp displays and restored controls, enhancing the experience. These games thrive on quick reflexes and strategy, with vibrant pixel art and iconic soundtracks that spark joy. Arcades host tournaments and leaderboards, fostering a lively community. While modern games dominate, retro titles provide a unique, accessible thrill that keeps arcades buzzing.
