Customer Reviews

Has a wonderful time with my family. Spent time playing coop games like retro racing games with my wife and Mortal Kombat and marvel vs capcom with my son (they had a blast) and I loved introducing my 8 year old to the N64 that I grew up playing on a genuine CRT TV Wonderfully clean environment and they didn't lack on food or nice aesthetic vintage looking drinks Pricing was excellent at a simple entrance fee too

We love that place. We play there 1-2 times a month. All of them were great experiences. Nostalgic and fantastic. There is a so beautiful games. Meals are a little bit expensive but still good. Drinks are cheap. Friendly stuffs help a lot to everyone. Thank you for being great.

Pretty cool place. Unlimited game play for about $13. Alcoholic beverages were reasonably priced and they had a good selection. Some of the games were quite old but still fun. Definitely a cool place for adults. There weren't many kids and plenty of places to sit and drink and eat. Will definitely go back if I'm in the area again.

The Deluxe Hot Dog is absolutely fabulous! Delicious and flavorful! Fun place for family and friends to spend time together. Can bring cake for a birthday or special occasion.

Free Play is always a fun time. There are lots of different games to choose from and play. This particular location is very clean and the drinks are good and strong which makes for a very fun night out. Choose the time you are going to go wisely because certain days / times are really crowded with young kids which can detract a bit from the experience.

My first game was R-Type for the original Gameboy back in 1992. I didn't realize at the time it was a port of an arcade game. But when I later learned this, I would always look for it whenever I went to an Arcade. But have never been able to find it. Then this past weekend went to FreePlay in Richardson, TX and boom! There it was! Wasn't even expecting to see it. This game is and always will be special to me because it was my first video game and I was overjoyed to finally get to play it on a cabinet after

It was my first time here and had a blast actually. All the retro games and aesthetic looks were so cool! Definitely and old school vibe and it had a seating area which was cool! Lots of different styled games. I had so much fun with games I have never even played as a genz. Pricing per person was very reasonable, especially for free play! Never been to an arcade like this so I'll definitely be back!

This place is super rad. My kids and I drove down from OKC and it was well worth the trip. We had a blast. Great game selection.

Free Play in Richardson has been and STILL great! Tons of games, great for the whole family. Do NOT skip eating something off the menu. Their kitchen is not an afterthought, on the contrary, you will find delicious food waiting for you!

This was such a fun place. My pre-teen and their friend enjoyed playing old school arcade games and pin-ball machines. We enjoyed it as adults. Call ahead of time, if possible, to find out any age restrictions. We showed up on a Saturday early evening, and the staff let us know that after 9:00 p.m., it would be 21 and over, so we would have to leave by then.

I get rules are rules, but they could have let me and my daughter finish the game we were already actively playing. There was only 30 seconds left of our race. Won't be back.

I dumped a lot of money there to get free admission cards punched (their Beer Loyalty Cards). When I went in a few months ago to redeem them, they refused to honor them!! They gave me the excuse that they barely changed systems and would no long accept the free admission voucher that THEY gave to me for a price. Totally slimy. Will not return after being lied to and basically stolen from.

We were looking for a rainy-day activity on vacation and found this on Google Maps. We were fine with the $12/person charge, even with six people in our family, but apparently it was half price for arriving in the first hour! Score! There was a decent selection of games, and all the games were in great shape. They were constantly walking around cleaning and looking for things needing fixed. We didn't try any of the food, but it smelled amazing. We love going to retro gaming conventions, so this was right up

What a cool place! I grew up in Garland and spent many hours at the now demolished Richardson Square Mall. Who would?ve thought there such a trendy place would arise from the ashes of the area???? $12 to get in, and 18 and up after 9pm weekdays. Tons of vintage (and not so vintage) arcade games. All in perfect working order!!! Lots of craft beers on draft and in cans/bottles. The food menu is small, mostly small pizzas and panini?s, but all were tasty that we tried (especially the Chicken Tikka pizza - YUM)

Nostalgia!!! If you had Atari, Nintendo (any of them), went to the bowling alley when you were a teenager, this place is for you!! If you do not know who the guy is by his hand, this place is not for you!! I added the picture for those who do not know!! ?? You pay 12 bucks to get in and play all you want!! There is a decent bar with reasonable prices!! Will be returning!! EDIT!! It's open to all ages... HOWEVER, after 9pm, if you are not 21, you gotta get to steppin'!!

It was a little hard to find, tucked in to an older shopping center that's under construction. Once we found the place, it was awesome! Quite a lot of old and new games, great food the kids and I loved, and a great selection of grown up drinks for the grown-up kids (me).

We went here for my daughters birthday. The price of admission is fair. The vibe is definitely retro-cade! There is a great drink selection, the food options are slim. The staff wasn't very personable but it may have been a rough day. We had a good time though.

So, the arcade selection is not as good as it used to be. There were some great classics that aren't there anymore and instead there are tables. BUT the drink selection is very good for what looks like a small bar. They rotate their tap selection every week and they have a great variety of canned drinks that are not just a bunch of different versions of ipa. Also, you can watch their kitchen staff through the door on the way to the bathroom. I caught them with gloves on and and hair covered and the prep

Lovely retro game center! I love the fact that this place has aye requirements they actually take seriously with wrist bands and such. I have gone here multiple times since young with different friends and always come out feeling so lucky to live near a place that does 10 dollars for so many games and no time limit! They also have wonderful lemonade so definitely try that out! And yes ddr can seem embarrassing to do alone but it is so fun to get to bounce and dance so don't let it get to you that it's a sma

A 90s kid heaven!!!!!! UPDATE: So I came back again and I had a really good time! The staff was wonderful and helpful! The environment was just top of the line because you know if you see everyone smiling you know you are in a good place. Don't mind the construction because they are still open and ready for business!!!

We had a great, retro time celebrating my husband?s birthday. The info on the FreePlay website is very thorough, and booking a table, time and food was straightforward. Thanks to Dylan, Denzel, Pete, and the rest of the staff for your attention to details (thanks for labeling all our take home boxes!). It was a very relaxed and fun outing with our friends and family. We'll be back!

I really like this setup. We went here for our work party and the person that set it up said it was very inexpensive. I don't know the exact price but I thought she said it was around $10 per table and then approx $5 per person and it's unlimited free play. You're given a wristband that will show you paid and then you can go in and out as you please. The arcade is large and it's mainly games from the 80s. There were even games I'd never seen or heard of. The atmosphere was good and the food they served was

This is a great location to bring the whole family. A lot of people have tried this concept but Free Play did it right. All the games work very well and they have a great mix of the classics. The beer selection was surprisingly decent but the prices were a little high. This is a place you can definitely spend more than 2 hours at. During the weekends that can get crowded with a ton of kids. I will be going back soon.

Love this franchise. I've been to three so far and nothing but awesomeness ensues. Old school as well as some new video games plus pinballs galore, good drinks, and food. Keep it up, FP!

Ton of retro fun at a great price! Just a $12 entry gives you freeplay on all machines! They have an excellent craft beer selection.

Fun place but?. We came here once before and they gave us a free entry coupon for purchasing 6 drinks while were here. The guy that checked us in said they stopped taking them like last summer, and refused to honor it. No expiration date on it, no understanding, no ?I'm sorry?. He simply said oh we sent emails out to let everyone know. When I asked to speak to who was in charge he tells me ?oh well they are probably not here , probably getting ready for the holidays or whatever, but you're doing pretty

The weekends are not overly crowded, and the staff is fantastic. All the games are functional, and they have seating areas if you prefer to relax. Overall, I had a positive experience.

Ridiculous policy! They make people pay even when they just sit at the bar and watch over the kids they brought to play. Will never bring my kids to play there again. The food is also awful, expensive and in small portions!

I hosted a grown up party here and it was a huge hit! Gayle was very prompt about answering me with what she needed and what to expect. The staff had the food ready when I asked and it was delicious! The food may sound like ?arcade? food, but it was actually really really good and so beautifully presented! I highly recommend hosting events here.

Avoid the food, seems like the only method of cooking back there is a microwave. I was disappointed to when the pizza arrived and the sandwich wasn't great either. Many of the arcade games are super old The only redeeming part of the experience were the Japanese arcade games and the drink specials. Not too bad of a price for all day gaming either.

We all love our retro arcade games and this place keeps them in top shape for everyone to come back again and again! Whether you want to go to the bar with great local/ regional selections and a chill atmosphere, you want to take the kids someplace affordable to play games (not having to worry about the dreaded prize cabinet) or you just want to take time and REALLY work on your pinball or battle game skills... This place is for you! We love to bring guests or friends here for a night out or just kill some

Used to come here a lot during college, still come here a lot now in my mid-20s. Great selection of games, decent food and drinks for a good price, great atmosphere. Highly recommend it over any other arcade in the DFW area!

Very cool games. I loved the rhythm games from Japan. And the Big Texan sandwich was amazing. Chicken was also delicious! Highly recommended

Best throw back arcade in the metroplex if not the best arcade I've ever visited. $11 gives you unlimited free game play. All the best games from the 80s and 90s are here and more importantly they were all in great working order. This place even won two awards from the 2019 Observer - Best Retro Arcade in Dallas AND Best Beer Selection in Dallas!

I love Free Play Richardson! We've been local patrons since they opened, and have felt fortunate that the original location is right down the street from us. Other newer Free Play locations are better equipped to handle crowds from tournaments or meetups, but the OG location still has its charm. Shout out to Pinball Mondays at Richardson!

The most fun you can have in Dallas for a guy like me. Protect and support this establishment at all costs, places like this are rare.

Our teenage greandkids love the unlimited machine play at this place. It's definitely no-frills, but the games are fun to play. The turkey and bacon sandwich is delicious.

Think of Free Play as the best, most well-maintained arcade you ever went to as a kid, but with beer, a flat-fee entry, and all the machines set to free play. Unlike so many retro arcades, you won't find emulators and broken games. All the games are original, lovingly taken care of, and remarkably well curated. Besides all the old standards, you'll find games here you might never have seen the first time around. The staff is knowledgeable, too. Ask them what games are new or what to check out.

Really cool retro arcade games ?? bring me back into the world of gaming when I was younger!! Love it ?? and my kids too! We all want to come back someday!!!

I go here every Thursday for the super smash bros tournament. wonderful environment, friendly bartenders and it seems like a different list of draft beers each week! I love the variety! I like the large selection of retro games they have mixed with some new gen stuff like street fighter 6 cab.

I took my 17 year old Son and his friends here for his birthday. It was my first time there and it will not be my last! I felt like a kid again. We were there from 3pm until 9pm and had a blast! Friendly staff and great games!

You don't have a lot of options for good arcades these days. Any review less than 5 stars for FP Richardson is from an energy vampire who thrives on killing other people's joy. Literally the only complaint I have about this place is that they got rid of my favorite menu item (chicken tikka pizza). If you want family-friendly fun with decent food and great drinks or an after-hours kid-free barcade, this is the best place in the Richardson area. Even when it's crowded it's navigable and cozy. The bar selecti

They had some early 1980 games for a small fee you pay upfront. Great pinball machines & friendly staff.

Came here with family, had a great time!!!!! $10 will give you free play in all the retro machines games, they really need an extra miss Pac-Man! I waited an hour and could never grab it :( other than that all the games are good, ordered a pizza and tasted great! My beer was good and will def go back! :)

Fun spot lot is beer options, flat rate game play lots of Japanese games as well

Nice place, friendly staff. Good amount of games and seating.

Very Fun nostalgic games from 80's & 90's.. If you love older games & remember how to play them , this little arcade is for you.. It is $11 for hours of free fun on every game. Plus they have a small but affordable option for food & adult beverages..

Love this place. 12 dollars for all you can play. It can get crowded on tournament nights and weekends but even then there are always some machines available. Best bottle/can beer selection in town!

I've always heard about places like this and this is my first time going to a retro arcade and it's been the most awesome experience I've had my son enjoyed it my wife enjoyed it and it was a such a blessing to see all the young people who are involved in this arcade. The '80s music that the business played just added to the awesome atmosphere of reminiscing the good old days!

My college age daughter and I spent some time playing games at Free Play Arcade. We were specifically looking for pinball machines and found a great selection! Even though we may have spent more on the entry fee per person than at a nickel arcade, we preferred the payment model of paying a single price for entry and then all the games are free. This arcade has a nice mix of pinball, classic games like Ms. Pac man and Space Invaders, and some newer games. The clientele skews toward adults and older teens, no

This place was a blast, the selection of the games was great, the food was really good, and the drinks were also very good. We will be going back the next time we're in Texas

Free play is a neat arcade experience with an uncommon twist... They also have console game tables while you enjoy snacks and drinks. There are plenty of nostalgic and modern games that take you back decades all the way to the 80's! Bring your friends, enjoy a few drinks over competitive games and enjoy. They do have a nice beer and cider inventory behind the bar and plenty of places to rest your drink while you play. Clean bathrooms, and game areas although there wasn't any sanitizer visible to clean up af

Great fun for an older visitor who remembers these games from their original deployment in the 1980's. Weekend crowds are much younger and packed more densely. Great for business but not for older parties who want a more relaxed gaming visit. Advice: go earlier in the day and you'll enjoy it more. Great selection of beers, drinks, and snacks. Huge assortment of 1st generation arcade hardware often rotated out to put different units on the floor. Great concept very well executed by the owners.

I love this place. Kid friendly during the day and adults only at night. They have a decent selection of adult beverages.

Every single time I've been here, it's been a blast! The staff is friendly, the food is delicious, and the games are well maintained! If you haven't been, do yourself a favor and come! Weekdays tend to be less crowded and you'll have your pick of the games. Their selection of craft beer is amazing too.

Great concept! Excellent selection of beer. I'm making this a regular hangout for myself, co-workers, and friends. My kids also love this place.

Great value of the entry fee because you can play all the 80s machines without additional fee. The food and drink cost is reasonable.

Great beers and great games. Tons of craft beers at great prices $4 to $8! Didn't try the food but it smelled really good. Pretty packed on a Saturday. Limited seating.

This place is awesome. I couldn't believe the vast selection of games that I used to spend hours and my whole paycheck on after work at Sgt. Singers Pizza Circus in the early 80?s. This was totally worth the ten bucks. Then you throw in a bar with a huge selection of beer and grub to pig out,

Tons of great games! Lots of classics including Centipede and PacMan. Fantastic place to go if you want classic fun without kids when they shut it down for minors at night. Careful of the tables, some of them tilt kinda easy and we spilled our drinks. It's got a decent bartender but they dont have a big selection. That's really not so bad though because they do have at least a good local brew list. If you've got 10 bucks and nothing to do, I highly recommend it.

Fun place for drinks, games, and social times with friends. Bartenders are super polite n respectful and patient haha. The pinball machines might be my favorite!

This little gem is quietly tucked into this strip mall. But don't let its little size fool you. It has LOTS of retro and some newish games. Skiball, pinball, and even super Mario kart (S-NES) at the booth tables! The food was great, the beer was cold, very reasonably priced, and the staff was friendly. This will probably be my new hangout when I'm not busy. If I could, I'd give it 10 stars!!

Suprising good Cuban sandwich. The arcade games are pretty good too ;) Jokes aside, one of the most authentic and well maintained arcade bars in D/FW. Not as big as their Arlington location. WAY BIGGER than their Denton location. One of my favorite haunts.

For $10 you get access to tons of arcade and pinball machines both old and... Newer. Most of the machines are in very good conditions and often work well. The drink prices are fair and the food is decent enough (though there are lots of cheaper fast food options nearby). Still, $4 for a bottle of Bluemoon is not bad at all! Go check them out!

Yes yes yes! Best place to plan pinball hands down. Drinks are great, food is surprisingly awesome, and there are seats for the pin ball machines to keep you playing longer!

Behold! Secret Menu item: The Fredi Hot Dog Quesadilla. Tums not included. Tip your waitresses well.

$12 entrance fee and all the games are free to play. Lots of fun and a solid collection of games. Dos Equis were $2 a pop too!

Lots of fun, tons of classic arcade games, pinball machines, and sit down games. They rotate in different games every now and then, and have all the old classics. They also have a small snack bar area with craft beers. Highly recommended place for anyone from the 70s, 80s, or early 90s that played games growing up.

Fun as always! We try and stop at it every time we visit Dallas.

This place is great! Bring earplugs! The constant noises emanating from the machines will definitely give you a headache that leads to you leaving before really getting your money's worth. The drinks are pricey with not many options even for non alcoholic drinks. Need to upgrade that situation. Otherwise the employees are super friendly and helpful.

We had so much fun at Free Play. The drinks are reasonably priced, lots of food options, and all the retro games we missed playing from when we were kids. Arcade games really are more fun than consoles. This is a great place to spend a few hours and not spend a fortune.

If you are an OG like me, you miss the days of video arcades before the console Era. This place will take you back to the good old days of flashy lights and the 8 bit sounds. This place has a flat rate to enter and all the games are free, so no pumping quarters and visiting the dollar bandit for more quarters. They do have a bar and bar food available. They also have adults only late night so no one under 21 will be there. They have tournaments and gaming groups if you are interested in that. The staf

Awesome place, awesome games, great staff, good beers. Also, they have a cabinet called DeathBall that is like 8 bit Rocket League. It's super addicting and after playing I looked it up and there are only 8 cabinets in the world! Try it while you are there!

We had a great time! We went on a Wednesday and caught their special of entry, dinner, and a coke product for $20. It was absolutely worth it. We got quesadillas one of each and they were amazing. 10/10!

Went there with a training class from my company and had a great time. This place is definitely more for the adults and those feeling nostalgic. Eighties music playing in the background. Amazingly friendly staff even when I was waiting by myself for my ride to get me. May be a date night for myself and the misses.

This is the BEST arcade ever. Great community, great people who work there, fantastic well kept games I LOVE FREE PLAY

This place is great! It has a good mix of classic and newer video games, as well as pinball. My daughter really enjoyed pong, and the Foosball-style hockey game near the front door. They have a small but impressive menu, with different press sandwiches with pizza as well. The beer last is massive, and I also liked that they had a large amount of cider to choose from.

Owner should fire this dude. No knowledge of the 80 or the Nostalgia. I had a few questions about tournaments high score etc. Seemed like his iphone was more important. And look how hard working he is..lol on his iPhone Other than that this place ROCKS.

Great place! My son and I had so much fun!

Phenomenal fun and reasonably priced. Beer and cocktails for the adults. Food and soft drinks for everyone. A great time for every arcade enthusiast (and their partner).

Such a fun place to spend the afternoon with friends. Great selection of the most popular early video games and a great beer selection at the bar, plus other cocktails.

Been going every Sunday since February, brought the family and nieces about 3 weeks ago and my dad loves the Qix & marble madness games.

My family and I had such a great time! Its affordable and my kids loved playing all the vintage games! All the games were original and in perfect working condition. It was clean and everyone was very friendly!

Loved this place from the minute I walked in. Total retro arcade vibes, GREAT service from the staff, and LOVE the games within the games ie Street Fighter tournament, random game challenges throughout the evening. Good times & good vibes all around!

Had a great time. Very reasonably priced. Alcohol is available for adults of the appropriate age.

This place was awesome! I loved getting to play so many games for one price. I think I spent over five hours there! The food is decent ? nothing to cry home about but nothing to complain about. I will say the bartenders weren't the friendliest in the world, but I suppose we all can become jaded after dealing with rude customers. This place is a must visit if you're in town and looking to have some fun with your pals or significant other.

Love these arcades. Pay admission and play all the games you want

What a blast..12 bucks all day ..just can't beat that! Plus drinks for the adults :-)

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s it like visiting an arcade today?

It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.

Is it better to go alone or with friends?

Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.

What should I bring to an arcade?

Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.

What’s the best time to visit an arcade?

Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.

Can I meet new people at arcades?

Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.

Are arcades still just for kids?

Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.

Are there events or tournaments I can join?

Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.

What if I’m not great at arcade games?

No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”

Are pinball tables still good in this modern age?

Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds. Though less common than video games, pinball’s tactile charm and community vibe make it a standout arcade experience in 2025.

Are retro games in arcades still good in this modern age?

Absolutely, retro games in arcades remain a thrilling draw in 2025! Classics like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Street Fighter II offer simple yet addictive gameplay, blending nostalgia with timeless challenge. Modern arcade cabinets often feature crisp displays and restored controls, enhancing the experience. These games thrive on quick reflexes and strategy, with vibrant pixel art and iconic soundtracks that spark joy. Arcades host tournaments and leaderboards, fostering a lively community. While modern games dominate, retro titles provide a unique, accessible thrill that keeps arcades buzzing.
