Great selection of games. The cashier tried to find discounts for us- military, first responder, etc. None of which applied to us, but appreciated the efforts! Would be nice if they had a happy hour style price. One of the pinball machines had a broken flipper but not bad considering the age of those machines. Wide variety of drinks and friendly bar staff. Couldn't believe that had barrel aged Mal?rt
Great selection of vintage arcade games to play. A person could easily get lost for an entire day and for only $12. Only complaints is lack of parking and the stairs to lower level.
Larger than the Richardson location. Plenty of space to sit down for some food. Large variety of genres of arcade games. Skee Ball, Basketball, fighting, racing, multiplayer, beat'em up, music/rhythm, and even some retro emulator systems. Add in 20+ beers on tap or your choice of cocktail. Perfect spot to take the kids and enjoy yourself as an adult as well. Located in the Denton square!
I love it here. I'd give it five stars but I've probably spent hundreds at this point going with the hopes to be able to play guitar hero, and I never get to. I end up only playing pinball and basketball usually, maybe a racing game. But there's always someone who won't share guitar hero. I am local and go very late and avoid the crowds and kids. It doesn't matter how long I wait or how nicely I ask, the people won't leave the game. Two adult men with their dates played it from 1AM to 2AM when I went recent
My family and I enjoyed all the nostalgic games with unlimited play after the 12 something entrance fee. Plus, late night, there's a time for a discount. It's Texas, so drinks are medium expensive. Ask for what liquor you want. Top, mid, or well. Apparently, not all bartenders think cheapest in this State. I'm Midwestern, so I expected a little hospitality that you'd get closer to southeastern , I guess. I am confused on the check, but I'll have to review each transaction when it posts. I assume there's a
This place is a lot of fun! The price to get in is determined by the day. We went on a Friday night, which was $13 per person. It was actually a really good deal! You are allowed to come and go. They serve alcohol and food. There is a bar on both floors. There are a ton of games to play. They even have the old interactive games like Guitar Hero and Dance Dance Revolution.
Not a bad trip. Basic vintage arcade games some could have used a little TLC. Great pinball selection. Bar prices average, good pours. Not very busy mid day.
Great place to meet with friends and family. Retro games, good food, and awesome drinks.
Had a great time at this arcade and love the pinball, and Japanese games! The cocktail was great too and we will be back next time we are in Denton!
I am writing this review mainly to air my two grievances. (1) I found it very difficult to back out of a selection made in any of games. Not sure if this is an oversight or I'm just dumb. (2) I love air hockey. I feel like this place should have at least one air hockey table. It's a cool little arcade bar though, liked it a lot.
Great spot for pinball machines and retro arcades. Staff is friendly and accommodating! Location on the square is awesome to make a whole day in Denton.
New location on the square is amazing. 3 times the size of the old one and has about 15-20 pinball machines in total. Lots of old school arcade games, as to be expected. It's usually $12 to enter, but I went on the opening night and it was only $6. Food portions were a good size too but nothing too fancy. Good beer selection too.
The location overall is quite a pleasant experience, fun vibe, nice atmosphere, my only qualm was that the front entrance host was quite rude and snappy when I misunderstood what they were saying about the place going 21+. I simply misunderstood and when they asked it i was staying for that i said no, even though it was around another 40 minutes before it hit 9 pm. But i still wanted to come in until then, but they had already closed out of the transaction and when i asked why they rudely retorted ?you just
Awesome place. We had a lot of fun there with daughter's friends for a birthday. Some things were broken as that many teens and preteens will tear stuff up. Overall, it was clean, fun, and almost everything worked perfectly especially for equipment that is many decades old.
This place has the best old games! I literally love digdug and feel like it's so hard to find the classic style. Staff was super nice as well, the female bartender was great helping deciding on ciders. The basement bartender was just such a great energy as well. Sorry I didn't get staff names, but we will be back soon! Just wish there was another guitar hero, had to wait for quite a while to play
Best old school arcade I have been to in a long time. Fun and games and food and drinks. Clean and nice and because it is free play, it does not eat your $. Fun for the whole family as long as the kids are about 8 and older.
Tons of games available to play with most being downstairs. Bartenders are amazing with their recommendations offering alcohol and THC drink options!
most of it is downstairs but worth the effort. even for those old enough to have played these new. machines in great shape and a very clean place for my next galaga defeat by CAZ
Loved this place! We were in from out of town visiting friends and they suggested we check this place out. Had a blast! Food, drinks and video games! Amazing! I especially loved the vegan sandwich they had! Wish they had a few more items but maybe they'll add more vegan ones soon.
This place is absolutely fantastic, they have basically every kind of game you want to play. The music is sick, the whole atmosphere is everything nerd. It's just great, I wish we had one in Tampa.
Pretty nice place! People were kind and made sure to rotate around the games. Wish parents would supervise their young children more, hence the 4/5 rating. They offer discounts for students and military personnel!
AWESOME place! Extremely clean and well maintained compared to most arcades. The vibe and lighting is amazing. The bartenders are all great, but Gregory is phenomenal!! He listened to our requests and made some delicious shots and cocktails for us. His ?christmas? shot was super smooth and I highly recommend. Super friendly and personable!
Please give me a like if you likemy review and photos. Dropped by this place tonight on a whim. Its a great little bar and gaming lounge. Not to loud and not to quiet. They keep the tunes rockin and the drinks lined up. The games are a great way to enjoy a nostalgic night out. Plus after a $6 cover you will find most of them are free and the ones that are not are 25c. I was happy to see that the games were clean and worked well. As far as the bar goes it seems nice. I had one drink and then began enjoying
So much fun! Enormous selection of games and the bar has a large selection of really good beer. Anyone under 21 has to leave at 9 pm.
Took my kids to this place and it was awesome. Very retro and has a lot of nostalgia from the old school arcade days. Family friendly (at least during day) and seems like a fun date night place for the evenings.
Loved it! Brought back memories of spending tons and tons of quarters at Tilt at the mall or Saturday mornings at Putt-Putt Golf and Games. $12 admission for all you can play was well worth the destressing and trip down memory lane. Games like Contra, SmashTV, Track & Field, Lunar Landing, Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal were a blast to play! Definitely will be back with the family next time.
Not a barcade! A full fledged arcade and a full fledged bar. We're talking candy cabs, we're talking TGM, we're talking alll the classics. Staff is super nice, games are maintained for real, for real. Perfect 360s in the mvc2 cab, triple monitor darius onsite. A real enthusiasts joint, man. Check it out!!!
This place is just awesome. An incredible selection of beer, cider and soft drinks compliments a diverse selection of games which will bring fond memories of your Gen X or millennial childhood. The place is well suited for both grown-ups and kids and everyone there abides by the unspoken rule of checking behind to see if anyone is waiting before pressing Start again. If you're looking for a great way to pass some time on your own, or hang out with friends, this is an excellent place to spend the afternoon.
Remember: during the first hour after opening on a weekday, admission is half off! Remember remember: Freeplay is open at 11am when school is out.
Always a blast. Price is half off if you come during the first hour of opening Monday thru Thursday . Ethan up front/at the bar is an angel. The manager whose name eludes me is also a very sweet, straightforward person. Cameron is a cool guy, as is Verne the technician, and all the other employees. Now for other news. One of the bartenders, Charlotte, needs to work on her customer service/people skills. I experienced a couple completely random and disgustingly rude outbursts out of her. It's obvious she's
What a fun store. Server told me that there are no emulators in the building, all original consoles and boards. Very impressive!! Good drafts on tap, pizzas were really good but just a touch on the small side. Love the concept of free play on every game for a flat rate at the door. I "spent" what would have been 40 some odd dollars on the Terminator 2 shooter game with my daughter (let's just say we got terminated a lot). We had a lot of fun clearing mission 1. New and old games present with some great pinb
If all the awesome eating, drinking and shopping in Downtown Denton wasn't enough to bring you to the heart of the city every single weekend, THIS will. It's exactly the large-scale entertainment the Denton Square needed to keep it a super fun, vibrant destination. Here's what you can expect: ??Of course there's TONS of classic arcade games. But they also have skee ball, basketball, car racing, Guitar Hero, and much more. ??Not only do they have tons of beers on draft (including local brews like this de
Amazing New Years party! Favorite place in Denton. Entrance fee is worth it, all games free to play. Drinks and food is reasonably priced. Vegetarian choices, fun atmosphere, and plenty of games to choose from.
Been here recently and let me shout out the host Rhiannon for helping me out at the front and giving great customer service. The arcade, drinks and food are to definitely to stop by and enjoy as there a bunch to do when it comes to arcade section, so totally recommend.
Felt profiled yesterday at this place. They normally don't ask for ID?s on a Sunday morning like she didn't asked to the white guy in front of us but since we were with family members that came out of the country legally for a couple of weeks. It's called tourism btw. They've spend thousands of dollars here since they're vacationing, lady decided to ask for ids. Not going there anymore I know she didn't asked it because we were speaking in Spanish. My husband loves this kind of places but there are some mo
Gotta love a good drink and arcade games. They have a great selection of games, it's always a good time.
I love the new location. It is HUGE and so much more space than the old location. There's an entire wall of pinball machines and a huge video game variety from old classics, to new favorites, to games you've probably never seen in the US. The drink selection is wonderful and I love that they have a wide variety of non-alcoholic specialty sodas. My kids love trying the different flavors. The staff is always attentive and kind. Being an arcade, it can get fairly loud downstairs. So if you have any audio sen
Game variety was dated and disappointing; some didn't even work correctly. Definitely more of a bar with an arcade than an arcade with a bar. Won't hold the attention of kids as long as one would think/hope.
Our family LOVES Free Play. Great price, operational vintage games and great food and drinks!!
You could spend hours playing games here! One price gets you in. The kitchen does get busy when ordering food so be ready to wait a little longer than usual.
Decently priced entry fee and drinks. Lots of games to play and their hot honey pizza was amazing.
Went with my sister who was visiting town! It was absolutely amazing! Drinks were tasty. Games were fun. Crowd wasn't too packed (but still full of people!) Only complaints are the basement has zero cell service (and no wifi) so I had to go up the stairs to check my phone (coordinating with my mom about other plans). I also wish there was a program/system to borrow/rent headphones from the arcade for the rhythm games. I didn't know I might need to bring some in order to hear the games AND I never have wire
This place is so much fun! I'm not one to play video games but it gets you wanting to try new things and exploring the world of gaming. I haven't played one game that I didn't like My experience has been nothing but amazing. it's also a great date night idea for couples Also I love there drink selection, that's also changing constantly as well as there basic staples like Bud Light etc. Definitely will be returning as a regular with my friends!
For $12 per person you get unlimited play on vintage arcade games. The only game that didn't seem to work very well was Dance Revolution. It was fine the first round, but didn't seem to register steps later. The sit down driving games have a lot of play, so don't go in there thinking this is like a modern console driver game. We played all the classics like Tempest, Centipede, Galaga, and many more. They have 10 or so pinball machines that are super fun. The only problem is that the machines are in a dimly
On a Sunday early afternoon my elderly father and I walked in to see what was available for play and to look at some of the games. We were told we had to pay just for entry and were not allowed to look for 5 minutes and decide if we wanted to stay. Turned around and left without being allowed to look and see if paying the fee would be worth while.
If you don't know what arcade games are your favorite this is a great place to have an unlimited opportunity to find out.
Arcade part: 4/5 Its cool that it has all the old classics but the classic can be kinda boring at the same time. Good for an hour or two. Bar: 2/5 The bars are nice with plenty of selection. But I paid $12.50 for a can that cost $2 at the store? A 600% markup for a can is crazy Kitchen: 3/5 Limited, small portions and overpriced. Food is decent still.
Tons of great arcade games. Losing stars for service. The staff was unfriendly and even threw away some of my personal belongings. Had no sympathy when confronted about it.
Great way to spend a few hours and not even get close to playing all their games. Full bar upstairs and downstairs. Tons of pinball machines along with all the old school arcade games. An all day pass for only $12 is a steal.
So much fun! Paid $12 to get in and there are so many games to play. The basement is where it is at. Lots of drinks to keep the party going as well. Will definitely be returning.
All I can say, is, I'd have to swindle the owner for a year membership if we lived closer. This place is phenomenal. Our kids loved it just as much as we did. I mean, 2 floors of top serviced all-you-can-play retro games, 2 full bars, food, and a massive pinball wall. Sold. Thanks Free Play, y?all did awesome.
My go to place for playing arcades and enjoying some drinks!! Great atmosphere and great selection of games/drinks. Fun for the whole family until 9pm then all under 21 get the boot. Great as location as well! Must go to when on the square.
Great place to play arcade games and hang out. Large craft beer selection.
This is a great place. We ate while there and press sandwiches were great. Incredible selection of new and used arcade games and pinball machines. Have a tech onsite fixing stuff that breaks or has issues. Awesome selection of beers as well. Staff was knowledgable and very friendly. This place puts Cidercade to shame. Only thing I would suggest to them is put a level to a couple machines as they are almost flat. Oher than that love this place.
I've been here a few times and it is definitely a fun flashback. I however, was disappointed to find out that they are 21 and up only after 9pm. Not sure if this is every night or just weekends, but I'm not sure why they would want to turn good money away during summer hours. They're missing out on lots of teens and families because of this. Money is money?don't discount that.
Great beer selection and a ton of old school games in a clean environment with a very friendly staff. I went there with a bunch of pre-teen boys for my son's birthday party in the afternoon, but I bet it's just as fun in the evenings when it's adults only.
I truly enjoyed my time at this establishment. The concept is quite remarkable. The cost of beverages is admittedly high, but I do not hold any resentment towards them for this. I thoroughly appreciated the ambiance and the musical selections. It was an exceptionally enjoyable experience for myself and my children.?????? #qualitytime #familybonding. The entry fee grants unlimited access to all the arcade games.
My wife and I had a great time here! Tons of drink options, beers, ciders, meads, and cocktails. A fantastic variety of games that are unlimited play after a cover charge at the door. You can even bring your kids during the day, it becomes 21+ in the evenings. A great place to hang out and have some fun!
Carolina is so fun and cool to be helped by! This place is cheap, $6.00 all day pass - and has lots of draft beer options! Kid and Adult friendly! (Kids have time of day restrictions.) Games work. 1 fee. Fun as hell to come alone or with friends.
Visited Free Play with the family to enjoy some good old fashioned arcade games. I have an 11 and 7 year old boy. They enjoyed trying out all the games not worrying about putting money in or reloading game cards. Their game selection is really good. The price is pretty great too, especially if you show up the first hour they're open when admission is half off. Overall, great place to enjoy gaming for a few hours.
After walking in the new location with my 14 year old son. The 1st thing he said is, "it still has that Denton vibe." You guys captured everything great about that old spot and made it even greater. The basement will definitely take you back to a real arcade feel from back in the day, and we love the modern game corner and the basketball game. We now live an 1 away, but it's worth the drive & look forward to coming back.
This place has a great selection of video games and a dozen good pinball machines - all set on free play. Price of admission is $6-$12, and well worth it if you plan to stay a while. If it gets busy, you may have to wait for a game you want, but that's true anyplace. It is well managed and clean. Didn't try the food or drink. I would recommend.
This place is awesome. I've been to several Free Play Arcades, but this one is unquestionably the best. Many more cabinets, and much more room between them. A few machines had mechanical issues, but the vast majority worked just fine. We got to play DDR, Killer Queen, all the fighters (Tekken, MK, Street Fighter, and a few that are in the BlazBlue category), there's probably a dozen pinball tables... All in all, we had a great time, and we'll be back for sure. Staff was super chill and helpful.
Don't trust the doorman. Had a get together for my son's birthday today at 1pm. Bought two extra wristbands and the doorman said he would give them to the old couple where the husband looks like Santa Claus. Even gave him their first names. What did he do? He gave them to some young couple, who I am guessing he must have known, because he made me buy another set for the couple he was supposed to give them too. Who doesn't know what Santa looks like? And how does some bald young guy look like him? I don't
Was really hoping for a fun place to visit because I am a big fan of pinball. I played two games and left. This place is so dark it's very hard to see the playing fields on all the machines, which is probably a good thing because my guess is the machine are not keep up with, playfield and glass were dirty and the place smelled. I think the kids will enjoy. I did not try the food.
It's a cool place, especially if you're into vintage video games. Reasonable price at the door and discount for showing up at opening time. I bring my young son with me, and he absolutely loves this place. All in all, it's a good time for family and friends alike. Lots of games, lots of fun. I've been several times and will continue.
I came here to play arcade games with my husband. It was our first night out in a while without our 3 kids and I recently had my wallet lost/stolen and was waiting for my appointment to get a new ID. I came here just to play arcade games as we are gamers and was denied entry due to not having an ID, I don't drink and never intended to order drinks. I'm 30 years old and rarely come out and this was my first time coming here after wanting to see what the place was about for a while. I feel they are losing a l
Great experience. Games are fun and nostalgia is served up on platters!
We had a very very good time, well worth the money. Arms are sore from the fire button on favorite old-school games. This is very very good time, highly recommended. ??
i love free play and i think their new location on the square is an amazing upgrade and much needed for downtown. unfortunately, several of the games i like to play are usually broken or in serious need of repair and the beers are a bit expensive, though they do have a great beer selection. if you're looking for a fun way to spend a couple of hours definitely check it out!
Always a blast. Super fun games, always great to come with friends!!!
Was very surprised at the excellent choice of beers on tap, place is very clean and dont forget to go around the corner! There is another room in the back with several more pinball and arcade machines that you dont want to miss. I was there for a couple of hours and look forward to coming back to town to play again!
Smaller than the other locations, but makes us for it. Wide selection of beer on tap, all rare games and classics. Has a cool mural on the outside with a diffrent feel. Calm and relaxed when we went in on a Sunday night.
One price for all day play which is pretty cool but there was an overwhelming smell that wouldn't allow us to stay long.
Mu whole family loves this place.
We had a blast at Free Play! We went early (right at opening on a Sunday) so the kids could enjoy some time at the arcade, and it wasn't crowded at all. The game choices were awesome, but the only thing missing was air hockey! It was a great value for the admission fee, and we got to play a ton of fun games!! We can't wait to go back!
I spent the evening here to celebrate my 55th birthday with my Grandson, 13. We had a blast! He as a Genz wasn't bored. We spent about 2 hours here. SkeeBall, PAC Man, Mortal Combat, Race Car driving, Dungeons and Dragons, pinball games and some current gamer tournament on terminals. All of the nostalgic games from my childhood. As well as a bar for grown ups and 80's music. A whole vibe! Didn't see Mario or Centipede. But I would highly recommend this fun spot for GenX, Z and Millennials. Can't beat the $1
The young lady in the front was very nice. The place was very organized with all games a great place for teenagers or kiddos. Had a great conversation with the receptionist while I was waiting on kids to play they had a great time experiencing new games that they do not have access to where. The price is great for an individual that will be coming in and out all day but if you are an individual coming from out of town be prepared to stay at least 3 hours to get your money's worth.
Pretty clean and tidy. Awesome games selection! Greeted very nicely when we came in. The bathroom was very clean. I wish more of them worked properly. Afterburner was broken, many shooting games were not calibrated correctly,a few racing game seats didn't lock for the kids to play them and some game consoles downstairs had some beat up controllers. A few of them didn't work. Par for the course I am sure with the amount of traffic they get, especially drunk traffic at night. It's $11.99 to get in which is p
This place rocks. It's filled with all the good old school arcades- smash TV, metal slug, the old terminator shooter, every fighter you can think of, a lot of them even set on full screen linked arcades for easy versus mode play. I took the family and we all had a blast. Well worth the price for hours of arcade fun. The food is good but is mostly snack food- the portions aren't big enough for a meal, so plan on meals elsewhere, but the drinks and food are good.
As soon as you walk in to this establishment you are greeted with enthusiasm and kindness. My partner and I spent hours here, leaving and coming back as we please, which was so convenient. The bartenders were cheery, fast, and super sweet. The cocktail options were great, and every drink we had was perfect. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air cocktail was definitely our favorite though! There are over 300 games upstairs and downstairs, from options such as pinball, to guitar hero, to skee-ball, racing games and mor
Love the nostalgia. Great selection of games. Great price. Wonderful atmosphere a must try when in Denton
Loved this Arcade! Video games and pinball from the 80's to New. $10 play all day, a full service bar too!
Great place to relive your teenage arcade days in a clean, fresh environment. This location has two bars with over 50 tap beers. Bartenders are helpful in picking a beer. In a variety of sizes, great for sampling different beers. This is the third Free Play location I've been too, they all are great
Had a blast!! All the games were working. A lot of space.
Fun place to visit every once in awhile. The majority of the games are older/vintage. We enjoyed walking around and finding games we used to play on our Atari. Some of the games need a good cleaning. Menu is very limited. I ordered the turkey sandwich which was really good.
Refuse to honor their own rewards card for free admission. Extremely disappointing....!
Goodness gracious I love this place. Staff's always friendly, and helpful, and just generally happy to here - but they also stay out of the way when you're in the zone at the screens. Both the entry price and the drink prices are reasonable. I can bring my whole family for a whole afternoon for less than $70. They've got a good selection of craft sodas for the kids too, but we usually pop over to Rusty's Tacos afterword for Churros, rather than opting for the snacks here. The selection of games runs th
It’s a mix of nostalgia and high-energy fun! Many arcades blend retro classics like Pac-Man and pinball with modern VR games, racing simulators, and rhythm challenges — often with music, lights, and a social vibe.
Both can be great! Solo visits let you focus on your favorite games, while going with friends adds competition, teamwork, and laughs. Many people plan arcade meetups as a casual hangout or even date spot.
Usually just yourself and a way to pay (some arcades still use coins, others use cards or apps). If you're competitive, bring your A-game. If you're social, bring friends or meet new ones over multiplayer games.
Weekdays or early afternoons are usually less crowded — perfect for focused play. Evenings and weekends bring the buzz, especially at barcades or venues with DJs, tournaments, or themed nights.
Absolutely! Arcades attract a mix of casual players and serious gamers. Whether you're jumping into a four-player co-op or chatting between rounds, it's a fun, low-pressure way to connect over shared interests.
Not at all. While many arcades are family-friendly, there are also adult-oriented ones with full bars, 18+ nights, or vintage nostalgia themes. Arcades today cater to everyone — from first-timers to lifelong gamers.
Yes! Many arcades host regular competitions, retro nights, cosplay parties, and more. Whether you're into high scores or just want to watch and vibe, events add an extra layer to the experience.
No worries — arcades are about having fun, not being perfect. Try a variety of games, ask others for tips, and remember: the vibe is more “let’s play” than “let’s win.”
Yes, pinball tables in arcades remain a blast. Their hands-on, skill-driven gameplay delivers a thrill digital games can’t match, blending nostalgia with modern flair. Newer tables from Stern and Jersey Jack feature LCD screens and themes like Avengers or Stranger Things, keeping things exciting. Arcades are seeing a pinball resurgence with vibrant scenes and tournaments like IFPA events drawing crowds. Though less common than video games, pinball’s tactile charm and community vibe make it a standout arcade experience in 2025.
Absolutely, retro games in arcades remain a thrilling draw in 2025! Classics like Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and Street Fighter II offer simple yet addictive gameplay, blending nostalgia with timeless challenge. Modern arcade cabinets often feature crisp displays and restored controls, enhancing the experience. These games thrive on quick reflexes and strategy, with vibrant pixel art and iconic soundtracks that spark joy. Arcades host tournaments and leaderboards, fostering a lively community. While modern games dominate, retro titles provide a unique, accessible thrill that keeps arcades buzzing.
Arcade prize games are a thrilling highlight in 2025! Claw machines, skee-ball, and ticket-redemption games like basketball offer a rush of skill and chance, with rewards like plushies, toys, or electronics up for grabs. Modern machines feature vibrant lights, digital scoreboards, and responsive controls, amplifying the fun. The lively arcade atmosphere, with cheering crowds and buzzing energy, makes every win feel epic.
